[[Category:{{{type1}}}-type Pokémon|{{{ndex}}}]] Lotad (Japanese: ハスボー Hassboh) is a dual-type Water/Grass Pokémon.
It evolves into Lombre starting at level 14, which then evolves into Ludicolo by Water Stone.
Biology
Physiology
Lotad has a blue body with a yellow bill-like mouth and six small blue legs. It appears to have a lilypad on its back.
Gender differences
None.
Special abilities
Lotad have most of the abilities of both Grass and Water Pokémon. They are able to float into the middle of ponds and lakes and photosynthesize food for themselves without direct competition from others. They can also serve as ferries for smaller Pokémon that can't swim.
Behavior
These Pokémon are usually quite placid and easygoing.
Habitat
They are mostly found in wet areas like lakes and ponds where they float.

In the anime
Lotad was first seen in The Lotad Lowdown. Three sisters named Natalie, Nicole, and Rita owned a flower shop and a bunch of Lotad. One of these Lotad were given to Brock. This particular Lotad was a bit slow and sometimes stared blankly for a few seconds before attacking. It evolved into Lombre in Take the Lombre Home.
Another Lotad appeared in Oh Do You Know The Poffin Plan. It belonged to Forsythia.
A Lotad also appeared in One Big Happiny Family! in Jessie's fantasy.

Trivia
- Lotad and its evolutions, along with Kingdra and Palkia, are the only Pokémon to have a 4× resistance to Water.
- Lotad is the only Pokémon that is currently able to learn Water Gun by breeding, although Phanpy previously could in Pokémon Crystal.
Origin
Lotad seems to be a literal example of a lily pad.
Name origin
Lotad's name is a combination of lotus and tadpole. Its Japanese name is based on 蓮 hasu, lotus, and 赤ん坊 akanbō, baby, or 帽子 bōshi, hat.
In other languages
- German: Loturzel
- French: Nenupiot - From nénuphar (lily pad), and possibly marmot (tyke).
- Korean: 로토 Loto* / 연꽃몬 Yeonkkotmon*
