Kingdra (Japanese: キングドラ Kingdra) is a dual-type Pokémon introduced in Generation II.

Biology
It evolves from Seadra when traded while holding a Dragon Scale. It is the final form of Horsea.
Physiology
Gender differences
None.

Special abilities
(Specifics may differ in past games. Refer to Game data→Evolution data for these details.)
Behavior
Habitat
Diet
Biology
Pokémon food
Kingdra is a large, fish Pokémon that is similar to a seahorse with a tightly curled tail. It is covered in blue scales except for its yellow, compact belly scales. There are thin spines with a single branch atop its head and thin, white fins under its cheeks. Its thin snout is powerful, allowing squirts of water jets with devastating power to be fired. Two-pronged fins extend slightly past its cheeks. On its back is a white fin supported by thin, blue spines similar to the ones on its head.

In the anime
The yawn of a sleeping Kingdra is powerful enough to create undercurrents capable of destroying small ships. Should it decide to emerge from the depths of the ocean, Kingdra's strength can create large whirlpools and waterspouts on the surface. Because of its immense power, Kingdra often hibernates deep in uninhabited areas of the List of Pokémon by habitat to build up its energy, usually at the bottom of the seas. When a storm arrives, Kingdra is said to awaken and wander about in search of prey. Kingdra's awakening can cause tornadoes. It is known to have fierce battles with Dragonite whenever they meet. Kingdra's gleaming scales are gifted to royals.

Gary Oak has a Kingdra that he may or may not have caught as a Horsea or a Seadra.

Gym Leader Clair of Blackthorn City has a Kingdra.
Evolution
Kingdra evolves from Seadra and is the final form of Horsea.
Molly Hale used an illusion Kingdra to battle Misty in Spell of the Unown.

In the manga
Silver's Seadra evolved into Kingdra when he traded it to Gold for Poliwhirl, which also evolved. The two then traded back, so that each would have his original, though evolved, Pokémon.

In the TCG
(For specifics on this Pokémon's Evolution in the games, refer to Game data→Evolution data.)

Pokémon Adventures
In Ampharos Amore, Silver's Seadra evolved into a Kingdra when he traded her to Gold for Poliwhirl, which also evolved, but it was not seen until Tyranitar War. She was then used in his battle with Gold in the ruins of Ecruteak City, where she defeated Sudobo after being switched in. Silver also used her to Waterfall.

* Kingdra is the only non-legendary, fully evolved Dragon Pokémon not to have a double weakness to Ice (or indeed, any weakness to ice).
* Kingdra's name is often mistranslated to "Kingora" in the Chuang Yi translation of Pokémon Adventures.
* Kingdra is the only non-legendary, fully evolved Dragon Pokémon that cannot learn Flamethrower.
* Kingdra is the only Dragon Pokémon introduced in Generation II.

* Kingdra and its pre-evolved forms share their category with Dratini, its evolved forms, Salamence, and Kalosian Goodra. They are all known as the Dragon Pokémon.
* Kingdra and Palkia have the same type combination.

Origin
Origin
Kingdra is based on a weedy sea dragon.
Kingdra seems to be based on a seahorse, possibly the crowned seahorse, with some seadragon (genera Phyllopteryx and leafy seadragon) elements. Its Dragon type and category may be a reference to the Japanese word for seahorse, 竜の落とし子 tatsu-no-otoshigo (literally "illegitimate child of a dragon"), which is derived from the myth that a seahorse that lives for a century will transform into a dragon, as well as the aforementioned seadragons.

The fact that Kingdra dwells on the seafloor while creating whirlpools may be a reference to Ryūjin, a Japanese sea deity; or Charybdis, a sea monster in Greek mythology. Its ability to shoot cephalapod ink is reminiscent of a squid, and the shape of its snout and Sniper Ability are reminiscent of a water gun.

Name origin
Name origin
Kingdra's name is a combination of king and dragon.
Kingdra may be a combination of king and dragon or Lernaean Hydra (a mythological water creature).
Its German name, Seedraking, comes from See, Drache and king. Its French name, Hyporoi, comes from hippocampe and roi.

Kingdra (Japanese: キングドラ Kingdra) is a dual-type Water/Dragon Pokémon introduced in Generation II.

It evolves from Seadra when traded while holding a Dragon Scale. It is the final form of Horsea.

(Specifics may differ in past games. Refer to Game data→Evolution data for these details.)

Biology

Kingdra is a large, piscine Pokémon that is similar to a seahorse with a tightly curled tail.

The yawn of a sleeping Kingdra is powerful enough to create undercurrents capable of destroying small ships. Should it decide to emerge from the depths of the ocean, Kingdra's strength can create large whirlpools and waterspouts on the surface. Because of its immense power, Kingdra often hibernates deep in uninhabited areas of the sea to build up its energy, usually at the bottom of the seas. When a storm arrives, Kingdra is said to awaken and wander about in search of prey. Kingdra's awakening can cause tornadoes. It is known to have fierce battles with Dragonite whenever they meet. Kingdra's gleaming scales are gifted to royals.

Evolution

Kingdra evolves from Seadra and is the final form of Horsea.

Kingdra made its debut in Spell of the Unown: Entei, where it was one of the illusory Pokémon Molly Hale created in her dream world through the Unown. It was Molly's first Pokémon during her battle against Misty, where it quickly defeated Goldeen.

Kingdra made its animated series debut in Dueling Heroes, under the ownership of Christopher, who used it to compete in the Whirl Cup. It lost to Totodile in the first match after he plugged up Kingdra's snout while it used Hydro Pump, causing excess water to build up inside of it, thus sending it flying across the stadium.

In Fangs for Nothin', Clair used a Kingdra in her Gym battle against Ash. It faced off against Pikachu and Noctowl, defeating the latter. In Better Eight Than Never, Kingdra was later used in the rematch, going up against Snorlax and eventually being defeated.

In Looking Out for Number Two!, Goh caught a Kingdra as part of his second Project Mew Trial Mission.

Pokémon Adventures

In Ampharos Amore, Silver's Seadra evolved into a Kingdra when he traded her to Gold for Poliwhirl, which also evolved, but it was not seen until Tyranitar War. The two then traded back, so that each would have his original, though evolved, Pokémon. She was then used in his battle with Gold in the ruins of Ecruteak City, where she defeated Sudobo after being switched in. Silver also used her to climb waterfalls.

In Debonaire Dragonair, Clair owns a Kingdra, which followed her as they approached the Dragon's Den.

Juan has a Kingdra, which he used to assist Ruby and Sapphire in their training. It first appeared in With a Spoink in Your Step I.

Trivia

Origin

Kingdra seems to be based on a seahorse, possibly the crowned seahorse, with some seadragon (genera Phyllopteryx and Phycodurus) elements.

Its ability to shoot ink is reminiscent of a squid, and the shape of its snout and Sniper Ability are reminiscent of a water gun.

Name origin

Kingdra may be a combination of king and dragon or Hydra (a mythological water creature).
