Ash's Palpitoad (Japanese: サトシのガマガル Satoshi's Gamagaru) is the seventh Pokémon obtained by Ash in the Unova region.

History
Palpitoad was first seen in Facing Fear with Eyes Wide Open!, where he was the leader of a group of wild Tympole that lived in a lake. Ash and Oshawott had unknowingly invaded his territory while looking for an underwater plant to help his, Cilan's, and Iris's Pokémon heal after being poisoned by wild Foongus that were disturbed by Ash's Scraggy. Palpitoad was angered by their intrusion, and ordered his Tympole cohorts to attack them. When they swam away in fear of Oshawott, he called upon his friend, Cilan's, help. However, when Cilan fished Stunfisk out of the water, Palpitoad was forced to face Oshawott himself. Despite knowing some powerful moves, the Vibration Pokémon lost to Oshawott's newly-mastered Aqua Jet, and was captured by Ash.

In Reunion Battles In Nimbasa!, he was used in the Club Battle Tournament against Burgundy's Stoutland. Despite being his first battle with Ash as his Trainer, the two synchronized well, avoiding Stoutland's attacks and dealing out powerful blows. Eventually, Palpitoad was caught in Stoutland's mouth when it used Thunder Fang, though he avoided damage from the Electric move, being part Ground. However, Burgundy took the chance, and ordered an Ice Fang attack, which became a problem for Palpitoad until he used Supersonic to shatter the ice, and knock Stoutland back. After blocking Stoutland's Fire Fang with Mud Shot, Palpitoad won the match with a direct hit from Hydro Pump. In Club Battle Finale: A Hero's Outcome!, Palpitoad battled Dino's Darumaka in the semifinals, and won with a single Hydro Pump, allowing Ash to move on to the finals.

In Dazzling the Nimbasa Gym!, Palpitoad was used in Ash's Gym battle against Elesa. Being immune to Electric moves, Palpitoad was the ideal choice for this battle, and was Ash's sole strategy for the battle. Palpitoad took many ineffective hits from Zebstrika's Flame Charge and a Double Kick attack, proving unable to dodge. As Zebstrika headed towards Palpitoad using Quick Attack, Ash commanded a Supersonic attack, which blocked and confused Zebstrika. Palpitoad then finished the match with a Mud Shot, followed by a Hydro Pump. Palpitoad showed signs of fatigue after Elesa recalled Zebstrika, so both Iris and Cilan suggested that Ash should recall him and switch to another Pokémon. Ash, however, decided to stick with Palpitoad when Elesa brought out Emolga. However, Palpitoad found himself unable to keep up with Emolga's fast moves, and was hit by an Acrobatics attack, and several Aerial Ace attacks before he was hit with Emolga's Attract, causing him to become immobilized by infatuation. After another couple more hits from Aerial Ace, Palpitoad was knocked out, ruining Ash's strategy for the battle, but Ash later regained his composure and won.

In Rocking the Virbank Gym! Part 2, Ash used Palpitoad as his fifth Pokémon during his Gym battle against Roxie, and her final and strongest Pokémon, Garbodor. Palpitoad first tried to use Mud Shot on the Trash Heap Pokémon, but Garbodor used its extendable arms to raise itself from the floor and dodge the attack. As Garbodor attacked with Hyper Beam, Palpitoad used Hydro Pump to block it. Palpitoad then tried another Mud Shot, but it was blocked and countered by a Gunk Shot attack, which poisoned Palpitoad as it hit. Garbodor attacked Palpitoad two times with Venoshock, being twice as powerful because of the poison, and he was knocked out.

In Strong Strategy Steals the Show!, Ash used Palpitoad in his Vertress Conference battle against Stephan and his Zebstrika. At the beginning of the battle Zebstrika was too fast for Palpitoad and avoided its Mud Shot before striking back with Double-Edge and Stomp. However, Palpitoad was shown to have learned a new move, Sludge Wave, which caused Zebstrika to become poisoned when the attack hit. Despite this, Zebstrika was able to fight back, even using the poison as an advantage when using Facade, which did a lot of damage to Palpitoad. Ultimately Palpitoad managed to hit Zebstrika with Supersonic, causing it to damage itself due to confusion. Palpitoad then managed to launch a hit with Hydro Pump. Stephan in turn ordered a Giga Impact which sent Palpitoad flying. However, Palpitoad managed to fire a Mud Shot while in the air just before crashing into a wall, fainting. The match ended with a tie as Zebstrika fainted at the same time from the Mud Shot Palpitoad managed to execute.

In Farewell, Unova! Setting Sail for New Adventures!, Professor Juniper sent Palpitoad to Professor Oak's laboratory before Ash left for Kanto, touring through the Decolore Islands. He later reunited with Ash and the entire Unova team at Oak's lab in The Dream Continues!. Palpitoad joined in with them to launch a group attack on Team Rocket, using Mud Shot to send them blasting off for the final time in the Best Wishes series. Palpitoad was left at the lab before Ash set off for the Kalos region.

Personality and characteristics
Palpitoad was once quite the rowdy Pokémon, and liked to be the boss over others, such as when he commanded a group of Tympole and a Cilan to attack Ash and his Oshawott in Facing Fear with Eyes Wide Open!. Palpitoad is also very protective over what he claims as his own, such as territory, as shown in the same instance. In the Club Battle Tournament, Palpitoad has been shown to be quite the powerhouse. Since he shares a love for battling with Ash, Palpitoad seems satisfied to have Ash as his Trainer, and they were able to work well together, despite only recently being captured at the time and it being the first battle Palpitoad participated in with his Trainer. Palpitoad has also been shown to be physically tough, as he can endure attacks easily as shown in the Gym battle with Elesa and in the battle against Stephan.

Trivia
* Like Dawn's Togekiss, there seems to be some inconsistency in terms of Palpitoad's size. In his debut appearance, he was similar to the size of Ash's Oshawott. However, in his second appearance, he is shown to go up to Ash's waist. Later, in Dazzling the Nimbasa Gym!, he appears to be the same size as he was in his first appearance.
* Before Palpitoad, the last Pokémon which Ash had caught in its evolved state was his Noctowl, which he caught over 530 episodes before him.
* Of all of main characters' Pokémon, Palpitoad has been absent from the greatest number of episodes in a row while still being in rotation at the time: 36 episodes, spanning from after Strong Strategy Steals the Show! to before The Dream Continues!.
* Palpitoad is the only dual-type Water Ash currently owns.
* Palpitoad is the only dual type pokemon of Ash to have only one weakness. That weakness being grass type.
Ash's Heracross (Japanese: サトシのヘラクロス Satoshi's Heracros) was the first Pokémon Ash captured during his travels through Johto.

History
Original series
Heracross first appeared in A Sappy Ending. In the episode, several Heracross and Pinsir were having a territorial dispute. One of the Heracross followed Ash and ashfr as they tried to figure out a solution to stop the dispute, which, unsurprisingly, came in the form of Team Rocket. Team Rocket was stopped thanks to the Heracross, and the Pinsir were able to return to their forest, leaving the Butterfree and Heracross. However, the same Heracross was still intrigued by Ash and followed him for a little ways out of the forest. Eventually, Ash saw it following and the Heracross happily allowed itself to be captured.

Heracross' battle debut came in Roll On, Pokémon! where it battled one of Rochelle's Donphan, easily outclassing it before the battle was interrupted. Although it lost a subsequent battle to her most experienced Donphan, Ash was satisfied that it had gained significant battle experience. It scored a significant victory over Blade, Shingo's Scizor, in Wired for Battle!. Although it had trouble initially, with its Leer attack ineffective when Blade used Quick Attack, and then held in the air by its horn, Heracross' reaction time of 0.18 allowed it to pry out of Scizor's claws and then land a damaging Horn Attack. When Blade used Agility, Heracross sat and waited, forcing Shingo to choose between his laptop data and watching the battle. Eventually, Heracross managed to anticipate Blade and hit hard with Fury Attack. Shingo abandoned his laptop and began to order Blade's battle, where the two proved to be very powerful. However, Heracross managed to dodge Blade's Quick Attack, knocked it off balance when it attempted a False Swipe, and finished Blade off with Horn Attack.

Heracross was sent to Professor Oak's lab in Tricks of the Trade in exchange for one of Ash's Tauros. Ash sent Tauros back in the following episode, The Fire-ing Squad, but Professor Oak informed Ash that he wanted to study Heracross's behavior further. Ash agreed to allow Heracross to remain primarily at Oak's lab. It made an appearance in Bulbasaur...the Ambassador!, where it was happy to see Bulbasaur (and more happy to see its bulb) at Oak's lab.

Since then Heracross, like Snorlax, has been called on by Ash for use in difficult battles. In the Johto League Silver Conference, Ash used it in the league battle against Gary. Ash sent it out to fight Gary's Nidoqueen, but Gary quickly pulled Nidoqueen for his Magmar. Heracross fought Magmar regardless of the type disadvantage, sending Magmar flying with Fury Attack. Magmar launched a three pronged attack - Fire Blast, a point-blank Flamethrower, and its own body weight from the fall. However, Heracross overcame the flames by beating it away with its wings. It then broke through Magmar's defense with Megahorn, taking out the Spitfire Pokémon. However, Gary proved to be a harder challenge, firing a Hydro Pump powerful enough to blow away Heracross' rock cover and take it out of the battle.

In the special episodes, Heracross made a cameo appearance telling the other Pokémon about Cassidy and Butch.

Advanced Generation series
It appeared in The Right Place and the Right Mime where it met and shook hands with Grovyle.

In Ka Boom with a View!, Ash used Heracross again in the battle against Palace Maven Spenser. Upon being sent out, Heracross immediately went to eat the sap on Spenser's Venusaur. It managed to knock aside the Razor Leaf with Horn Attack, before it was knocked back by a Vine Whip. The two Pokémon rammed into each other with Tackle, both proving to be extremely powerful physically. Heracross struck hard with a Megahorn, then took advantage of the Solar Beam charge-up time to hit again. However, SolarBeam then struck Heracross, knocking it out.

Diamond & Pearl series
Heracross reappeared in An Old Family Blend!, where it was intended to be sent to Ash. However, Cyndaquil was sent instead. It did join Ash for the Lily of the Valley Conference, where it was used for Ash's battle with Nando in League Unleashed!. It was put up against Nando's Kricketune, and sent flying by Silver Wind. Kricketune then used Sing to put Heracross to sleep. However, while asleep, it was able to dodge Kricketune's Fury Cutter attack, because of the newly learned Sleep Talk attack, and combine it with an also newly learned Focus Punch. After it woke up, it had a fierce clash with Kricketune, which Heracross ended with a powerful Megahorn/Horn Attack combo, just before Kricketune attempted another Sing. After the battle, Heracross showed its affection towards Ash by "sucking on" his head.

In The Semi-Final Frontier!, it was the first Pokémon to battle Tobias in the semi-finals of the Lily of the Valley Conference. It seemed to be an excellent choice, with a double type advantage over the Dark type and a recently learned Hyper Beam, which collided with Darkrai's Ice Beam. It tried to attack Darkrai with Horn Attack but was put to sleep by Dark Void. Due to Sleep Talk, it was able to hit the legendary Pokémon with a Megahorn, only to be defeated when Darkrai used Dream Eater, which allowed Darkrai to recover some damage dealt by Heracross.

Best Wishes series
Heracross was reunited with Ash in The Dream Continues!, where it and the rest of Ash's Pokémon posed in a group photo with him.

Personality and characteristics
Heracross is an eager but easily distracted Pokémon, especially regarding sap. This was shown in Fighting Flyer with Fire, where Meowth dropped a jar of sap to allow Team Rocket to escape with Pikachu. It also likes to suck sap from plants or trees, as well as Bulbasaur's bulb whenever the two are together, annoying Bulbasaur enough to use Vine Whip to push it away. Again, this is distracting for it, as in Chikorita's Big Upset when it went for Bulbasaur's bulb before helping to rescue Chikorita. Heracross doesn't appear to care how much this annoys Bulbasaur.

Despite these minor flaws, it is a powerful battler, and also extremely strong physically, capable of throwing TRT's tank into the air in A Shadow of a Drought.
* Even though Heracross was the first Pokemon Ash caught in Jhoto. It wasn't used even in a single Jhoto gym battle.
* It has a one of a kind type combo. Heracross is the only Bug/Fighting type Pokemon.
Ash's Hawlucha (Japanese: サトシのルチャブル Satoshi's Luchabull) is the third Pokémon that Ash Ketchum caught in the Kalos region.

History
Prior to its capture, Hawlucha was the champion of a forest, where it helped maintain peace. Hawlucha gained this title after defeating the previous champion, a Machamp. After developing a rivalry with Hawlucha, Machamp retreated to some mountains so that it could train to become stronger.

Hawlucha made its first appearance in The Forest Champion!, where it battles an Ursaring that stole food from a group of Pokémon. Although it easily got the upper hand, Hawlucha missed its attempt to finish Ursaring off with Flying Press, leaving it open to attack. Ursaring was stopped by Ash and Pikachu, who scared it off. Ash offered to help Hawlucha perfect Flying Press, which eventually ended in success after countless failed attempts. They are interrupted by the Ursaring from before, who teamed up with a Conkeldurr so that they could trick the previous champion, Machamp, into believing that Hawlucha was the one terrorizing the forest Pokémon.

Machamp challenged Hawlucha to battle, and despite Hawlucha's power, it managed to easily take Hawlucha's attacks. Ursaring and Conkeldurr then stepped in and began double-teaming Hawlucha. Although reluctant at first, Machamp realized who the real villain was and defeated Ursaring and Conkeldurr. Machamp carried the two away and said its goodbyes to Hawlucha. Later, Ash challenged Hawlucha to battle with the condition that if he wins, Hawlucha will join his team. Despite the speed of Ash's Froakie, it was easily able to outmaneuver it avoiding its Water Pulse and Bubble attacks; despite this, the battle ended in a tie when Froakie's Pound collided with its Flying Press. Although Hawlucha didn't lose the battle, it decided to join Ash's team, even agreeing to reinstate Machamp as the forest champion.

In Battles in the Sky!, Hawlucha was used in a Sky Battle against Moria's Talonflame. Hawlucha was quickly outmatched due to Flying Press being ineffective and Talonflame easily dodging all of Hawlucha's attacks due to being in the air. Hawlucha was defeated after missing with its Karate Chop and being hit by Fire Blast and Steel Wing attacks.

In Forging Forest Friendships!, Hawlucha battled together with Ash's Froakie against Clemont's Bunnelby and Clemont. Hawlucha used Karate Chop a few times to counter Bunnelby's Double Slap. But, when Bunnelby was going to use Mud Shot and Ash commanded Hawlucha to use Karate Chop again, Froakie used Water Pulse before it can do anything. Hawlucha started to get a little bit angry, but the battle continued. Then Froakie lets Chespin's Pin Missile hit Bunnelby, which faints, making Hawlucha very angry. Hawlucha attacked Froakie, who defended itself. Later, Ash came up with a great new move called Super Flying Cut. They trained but it didn't work out, until Ash was kidnapped by a wild Trevenant, so Hawlucha and Froakie went after it. They found out Trevenant only wanted help for his friends trapped by TRT. Ash's two Pokémon have a battle against Team Rocket, sending them blasting off with their new Super Flying Cut, before giving each other's fist as a sign of their new friendship.

In Showdown at the Shalour Gym!, Hawlucha was used in its first Gym battle against Korrina as his first Pokémon in his Shalour Gym battle, it went up against Mienfoo, Hawlucha followed Ash's strategy of dancing, which he got off Tierno, Mienfoo went for a High Jump Kick which Hawlucha attempted to dodge by dancing but failed, Mienfoo then went for a Drain Punch, and Hawlucha tried to block by dancing but failed and had its health absorbed, Hawlucha went for a Karate Chop but this was blocked and then it was hit with a Force Palm. This confused Ash as Tierno's Squirtle could block attacks easily. Hawlucha then went for a Flying Press but it was countered by Swift which hit Hawlucha. At this point, Ash realized he couldn't win by imitating Tierno and that he had to use his own rhythm, so he changed back to his own battle style. Mienfoo went for a High Jump Kick, but Ash got Hawlucha to wait and dodge at the last second, causing recoil damage. Hawlucha then hit with a Karate Chop, dodged Mienfoo's Force Palm and then defeated Mienfoo with Flying Press. It was then recalled. Later Hawlucha was then sent out to battle Korrina's Korrina, Hawlucha went for a Karate Chop, but it was presumably blocked, it then went for a Flying Press, but it was countered by Lucario's split Bone Rush damaging Hawlucha, it was then knocked out by Mega Lucario's Aura Sphere, crashing it into a wall.

In When Light and Dark Collide!, Hawlucha was sent out to perform in Carl's Super Pokémon Battle play, after Pikachu injured the Gallade who was supposed to play the good guy. Hawlucha worked with Carl's Shiny Hawlucha, known as Dark Hawlucha. Hawlucha wasn't very good, refusing to be sent flying into a wall and using too much force, though it became better the next rehearsal. It started a fight with Dark Hawlucha, after being hit with its Karate Chop until it was stopped by Ash and some crew members. Later it trained with Ash after hearing about Dark Hawlucha being a former wrestling champion. During the play it teamed up with Dark Hawlucha to beat TRT after they interfered with the play. When the real play started, Hawlucha suffered from Stage Fright and messed up with the beginning so it and Dark Hawlucha decided to improvise and battle immediately, which reminded Dark Hawlucha of its former battling days. After a long battle Ash's Hawlucha won. Later before it left it shook hands with Dark Hawlucha.

In The Green, Green Grass Types of Home!, Ash used Hawlucha as his second Pokémon in his Coumarine Gym Battle against Ramos where it went up against Weepinbell. Hawlucha used Flying Press which damaged Weepinbell and followed up with High Jump Kick. But Weepinbell used Poison Powder, poisoning Hawlucha. Weepinbell then used Razor Leaf and Hawlucha was unable to dodge due to it struggling from the Poison Powder. After this it was hit by Weepinbell's Slam. It tried to use Flying Press, but it had gotten slow due to the damage it had taken and it was caught by Weepinbell's Grass Knot, which slammed it to the ground. Hawlucha jumped backwards and made a successful hit with High Jump Kick, but the Flycatcher Pokémon was able to grab onto Hawlucha and used Slam again, knocking it out.

In XY067, Ash used Hawlucha as his third Pokémon in his Lumiose Gym Battle against Clemont. It went up against his Clemont, with Ash choosing Hawlucha to match Heliolisk's speed. Hawlucha used Karate Chop which Heliolisk was unable to block. Heliolisk then used Parabolic Charge, which Hawlucha tried to dodge, but was unable to. This also healed Heliolisk in the process. Hawlucha used Flying Press, but Heliolisk used Flash, causing the attack to miss. It then used a close-range Parabolic Charge, which Hawlucha was unable to dodge, and this healed the Generator Pokémon even more. Following this Heliolisk used its agility to confuse Hawlucha. Ash then remembered Heliolisk extending its collar right before attacking and came up with an idea. Ash had Hawlucha use High Jump Kick during the split second Heliolisk extended its collar, knocking Heliolisk out. It then went up against Clemont's last Pokémon, his Clemont. Hawlucha hit Luxray with Flying Press, but it responded with Electric Terrain, which increased the power of Electric moves. Hawlucha used High Jump Kick, whilst the Gleam Eyes Pokémon used Wild Charge, overpowering Hawlucha and knocking it out.

Personality and characteristics
Hawlucha takes great pride in its own battle style, preferring flashy, speedy moves, and insisting on finishing its opponents with a Flying Press. It also first takes its opponents attacks before attacking itself. It is shown to be cool, calm, and collected; similar to Sceptile, Buizel and Snivy. Hawlucha is very determined in battle and never gives up, no matter how bad the situation may look and is always ready to improve itself. It has been shown to be quite powerful, as it was called the champion of the forest. Hawlucha is also shown to be kind and protective when it defended the smaller Pokémon's food from an Ursaring. Hawlucha also gets angry when someone interferes its battling as shown in Forging Forest Friendships!, where it got angry at Frogadier as a Froakie. In When Light and Dark Collide!, Hawlucha suffered from stage fright before its acting performance. It was also mentioned by Clemont in the same episode that Hawlucha hated losing.

Hawlucha has strong personal pride, and has been shown to be hard headed to an extent, not taking it well when Froakie dismissed its battling style and interfered in its battle in Forging Forest Friendships! However, in the same episode, Hawlucha was demonstrated to be a fairly mature Pokémon, and swallowed its pride and attempted to apologize to Froakie.

Since its capture, Hawlucha has been shown to both like and be quite loyal to Ash, willing to battle with him in its first Sky Battle the episode after its capture.
*Super Flying Cut (Japanese: スーパーフライングいあいきり Super Flying Cut) — When Hawlucha and Froakie were not getting along in Forging Forest Friendships!, Ash came up with an idea where Hawlucha and Froakie could work together to make a powerful move. Froakie gets on Hawlucha's back, and Hawlucha starts flying. Froakie would jump off of Hawlucha, and use Cut on the target. Then Hawlucha would come down and hit the same target, resulting in major damage. This was mastered during the battle with TRT, resulting in their defeat.
In the movie adaptations
Hawlucha appeared in the manga adaptation of the Diancie and the Cocoon of Destruction, where it participated in a battle against Astrid.

Trivia
* Hawlucha is the first, and so far only one of Ash's Pokémon that battled against him to a draw before allowing itself to be captured.
* Hawlucha is Ash's first basic stage Flying Pokémon that is not capable of evolving.
* Not counting Aipom (who had no evolution at the time of her capture), Hawlucha is Ash's first Pokémon that cannot evolve since Torkoal, who was caught 502 episodes earlier.
** Coincidentally, Torkoal was also voiced by Shin'ichirō Miki in Japanese.
* Hawlucha's capture was first revealed in First pages from 17th movie manga adaptation surface.
* Unlike most Pokémon in the anime, Hawlucha has its own theme music.
* It has one of a kind type combo. Meaning Hawlucha is the only Pokemon with Flying/Fighting type combo.
Ash's Muk (Japanese: サトシのベトベトン Satoshi's Betbeton) was the ninth Pokémon caught by Ash during his travels through Kanto.

History
Original series
Kanto
Ash caught Muk in the episode Sparks Fly for Magnemite. Ash and ashfr were traveling through Gringey City, which was in the midst of a power failure. The local power plant was being overrun by the mysterious Poison Pokémon, Grimer. After the swarm was located, the Grimer's leader, a Muk, came and challenged the Trainers. However, the vast numbers of Magnemite and Magneton in the city combined attacks to clear out the Grimer, leaving only Muk. With the aid of Pikachu and a Magnemite that was following it due to an electrical build up, Ash defeated and captured the Muk. It was then immediately sent to Oak's lab because its stench was so rancid that it could seep through the Poké Ball. However, Muk's horrid smell seemed to have disappeared in later episodes as neither Ash, nor anyone around him, was affected by it.

Muk appeared later in Showdown at the Po-ké Corral when Ash, Brock, Misty, and Gary visited Professor Oak's Laboratory.

Muk's first battle was in The Fourth Round Rumble, where it was selected for use in the Indigo Plateau Conference. After Jeanette Fisher's high-level Bellsprout had trounced Bulbasaur and Pikachu, Muk made a surprise appearance as Ash's third Pokémon. Muk easily absorbed Bellsprout's physical moves and Razor Leaf and then simply smothered Bellsprout with Body Slam, winning the match for Ash.

Orange Islands
Muk was briefly called in The Mystery Menace, where Ash used Muk to help him and Tracey find Misty, Misty, and Bulbasaur, who was kidnapped by a giant Bulbasaur in a sewer. Muk and Kingler also offered to fight for Ash in the Orange Island Championship battle against Drake in Hello, Pummelo!, but Ash chose Tauros instead.

Muk was reunited with Ash when he returned home in A Tent Situation. Muk insisted on fighting Team Rocket, and Ash ordered it into battle instead of choosing Bulbasaur. Muk managed to resist Razor Leaf attacks from James's James, and showed off its newly learned Poison Gas when it bit down on it in an attempt to use Poison Powder. Jessie's Lick was even less effective, wiping Muk's face ineffectively to the point of causing pleasure instead of damage. It was then put to sleep by Sleep Powder, but awoke after Gary intervened and drove Team Rocket away.

Johto
Muk's only other major battle was when Ash called it up from Oak's Lab in Can't Beat the Heat!, along with Heracross, Tauros and Snorlax in order to fight Gary in the Silver Conference. It was sent out originally to fight Gary, and the two fought to a stalemate, with Muk's Sludge Bomb deflected by Rapid Spin and Blastoise's physical attacks absorbed into Muk's body. Ash pulled Muk for his Bayleef quickly after. It was sent out to fight Scizor later, who dodged a Sludge Bomb easily. Whilst Muk absorbed both Quick Attack and Metal Claw, Scizor was able to throw Muk, and defeated it with Swift.

Muk made an appearance in the special episodes, where it was seen crushing Cassidy, Butch and all of the stolen Poké Balls. It was also seen crushing Tracey when he opened the door to Oak's Lab to Delia.

Advanced Generation series
Muk appeared in The Right Place and the Right Mime when Ash returned to Pallet Town. It greeted Professor Birch with its usual friendliness.

Diamond & Pearl series
Muk reappeared in An Old Family Blend!, at Professor Oak's lab, and then it was transferred to Ash for a brief reunion. Muk was not seen participating in the Lily of the Valley Conference.

Best Wishes series
Muk has made brief appearances in New Places... Familiar Faces! and Farewell, Unova! Setting Sail for New Adventures!, smothering Professor Oak while Ash was calling him from Professor Juniper's laboratory.

Muk was reunited with Ash in The Dream Continues!, where it and the rest of Ash's Pokémon posed in a group photo with him.

Personality and characteristics
Ash's Muk is an extremely happy and affectionate Pokémon. It grew an attachment in particular to Professor Oak and as a recurring gag, it would always smother the Professor whenever Ash would make a call to the lab. This was first seen twenty episodes after its capture, in Who Gets To Keep Togepi?. Muk tackled Professor Oak in excitement in Showdown at the Po-ké Corral, when Oak explained that Muk and Krabby had become just like him from its long period of living with him.

Muk's affection also extends to his Trainer, second in enthusiasm only to Bayleef, despite only having fought for him on three occasions. Muk obligingly crushes Ash in excitement whenever Ash returns to the lab or summons it to his party. Its affection also extends to complete strangers, as was seen when it completely ignored Jessie's Lickitung in order to hug her, also smothering James's Victreebel in excitement. It also smothered Professor Birch upon meeting him in The Right Place and the Right Mime.

Its affection even extends to antagonists, as seen both in the aforementioned encounter with Jessie and James, and also in a special episode, Showdown at the Oak Corral, when it actually appeared sad that Totodile drove Butch and Cassidy away. As Professor Oak said to Jessie, Muk loves humans, and it is not very particular to which kind.

Muk differs from most of Ash's other Pokémon in that it is a defensive Pokémon, with a low attack power and very few moves used across its entire time on the show. It has never been shown to be damaged by a physical attack, with its opponents' moves always absorbed by its odd body type. Despite being quite powerful and good in battle, it has only ever defeated one opponent, Bellsprout (it was put to sleep by Victreebel and knocked out against Gary without a win).
Muk only appeared on the scoreboard in One Half Of A Poké Ball.

In The Electric Tale of Pikachu manga
Ash caught Muk off-screen in The Electric Tale of Pikachu manga. He later used it as his last Pokémon is his battle against Jeanette in Welcome to the Big Leagues. Jeanette's Bellsprout had no chances of using its techniques against Muk's slimy body, and Ash won the battle.

Trivia
* Muk is Ash's only Pokémon in the Amorphous Egg Group.
* In Yellow, a game highly based on the anime, Muk can be found while walking in the Kanto Power Plant, making a direct reference to Ash's Muk, which was also found in a power plant.
* Muk is Ash's only fully evolved Pokémon to know less than four moves.
* It is currently Ash's only fully evolved pure poison type Pokemon.
Ash's Leavanny (Japanese: サトシのハハコモリ Satoshi's Hahakomori) is the sixth Pokémon that Ash obtained in the Unova region.

History
Unova
Leavanny first appeared as a Sewaddle while Ash and Ashfr were in Pinwheel Forest. He randomly attacked Ash's Pikachu, and Ash tried to catch him, but was not successful, since Sewaddle ran away. He later reappeared and knocked Ash to the ground when the trio met Burgh, the Gym Leader of the Castelia Gym, who revealed that he was accompanying Sewaddle through the forest, even though he was not his Pokémon. When Ash and his friends tried to say hello to Sewaddle by using the two sensory knobs on the top of his head, he Tackled Ash, while he kindly said hello to Iris, Pikachu, Iris and Burgh. Ash, Iris and Burgh then followed Sewaddle throughout the forest, watching him eating, as well as watching his sleeping habits.

When Sewaddle started eating some fruit, two Woobat started to attack him. Ash protected Sewaddle from an Air Slash attack. Pikachu and Sewaddle then scared off the Woobat. Sewaddle then offered Ash some fruit, showing that he was slowly beginning to like him. Later that night, Sewaddle even went into Ash's sleeping bag with him. The next day, a Patrat kidnapped Sewaddle in order to heal its sick friend, as a leaf from a Sewaddle has healing properties. However, Sewaddle got away, just to get stuck on a Deerling's neck, and to get thrown over a cliff into a river, with Ash diving in to save him. Burgh then used his Leavanny to save both Sewaddle and Ash from going over a waterfall. Sewaddle was very thankful, but his "clothes" got messed up during the fall. However, Burgh's Leavanny made him new clothes. Ash asked Sewaddle if he wanted to join him, and Sewaddle happily allowed Ash to capture him. But once he was captured, his Poké Ball became sealed, as Ash had seven Pokémon on him at the time. This meant Ash had to send over one of his Pokémon to Professor Juniper in order to retain Sewaddle in his party, which was later revealed to be his Pidove.

In A Connoisseur's Revenge!, Ash wanted to have Sewaddle examined by a Pokémon Connoisseur so he would know how compatible he was with him. He showed him to a C-class Connaisseuse by the name of Burgundy. She confirmed that his Ability is Swarm, which she thought was a bad thing, as she thought Ash would be better off with a Sewaddle with Chlorophyll, not doing anything to support her claim. When she said he should replace Sewaddle, he fired a String Shot at her in anger.

Ash used his Sewaddle as his second Pokémon in his Nacrene Gym battle in Battling For The Love of Bug-Types!, he went up against Burgh's Dwebble as Ash wanted to use a Bug despite the type disadvantage since he was part Grass, he used Razor Leaf which was blocked by Dwebble's Protect, Dwebble then used a fast X-Scissor but Sewaddle dodged by using aiming String Shot onto the roof, and lifting himself up to dodge, he then used Bug Bite which was countered by Protect, Dwebble then went for a close range Rock Wrecker, like it used to knock out Ash's Tepig, but Sewaddle dodged by aiming a String Shot at the wall, he then used Razor Leaf, which was countered by Protect again. Dwebble used Rock Wrecker but Sewaddle used String Shot to grab and throw the Rock Wrecker, then Dwebble used another X-Scissor which was countered by Dwebble, separating it from its shell, allowing Sewaddle to hit it with Razor Leaf and when it tried to return to its shell, he hit it with his Tackle and then he defeated the Rock Inn Pokémon with his Razor Leaf. Burgh then sent out his Whirlipede, Ash decided to stick with Sewaddle despite Whirlipede being a Bug/Poison, Whirlipede went for Poison Sting, which was dodged when Sewaddle used String Shot on the roof, he then used String Shot on Whirlipede but these threads were easily cut through by Whirlipede's spinning, Whirlipede then used Steamroller, hitting Sewaddle, and then again after he attempted but failed to counter with Razor Leaf. Sewaddle attempted to use Bug Bite, but this was blocked by Iron Defense, hurting Sewaddle, after being hurt by Steamroller again, Whirlipede used Solar Beam, which hit Sewaddle, but he endured it and immediately evolved into a Swadloon. Swadloon used String Shot on Whirlipede, but despite being more powerful, the threads were easily cut again by Whirlipede's spinning. It then used Steamroller, Swadloon attempted to dodge by using String Shot on the roof, but Whirlipede cut those threads and continued on with Steamroller, but Swadloon used its new move, Energy Ball to stop it and deal damage. He then defeated the Curlipede Pokémon with Tackle. Burgh then sent out his last Pokémon, Leavanny, the evolved form of Swadloon, he started off with Energy Ball but this was countered by Leavanny's Protect, Leavanny then used String Shot on the Leaf-Wrapped Pokémon, trapping him. However Ash got Swadloon to cut the threads with his own Razor Leaf, freeing him but dealing damage. However this was in vain as the Nurturing Pokémon used Leaf Storm and then it finished off Swadloon with Hyper Beam.

In Battling the Leaf Thieves!, Swadloon battled against Iris's Emolga in a training battle. After being hit hard by a Discharge attack that Emolga sent down the thread of Swadloon's String Shot, he perked up and evolved into Leavanny. His innate caring nature came to force right away and Leavanny made leaf hoods for the young Iris and Scraggy, who were very pleased with them. Leavanny then noticed three wild Sewaddle who all had withered hoods. Not giving it a second thought, Leavanny made new hoods for the three Sewing Pokémon. After making more hoods for Pikachu, Oshawott, Tepig, Snivy and Emolga, the gang sat down for a nap. While sleeping a group of wild Durant came across the gang and took the leaf hoods for food as well as Axew, who was still wearing his outfit, because their poor eyesight led them to believe he was a pile of leaves. When the gang awoke, Leavanny helped search for the missing Pokémon. After Emolga led the gang to the entrance of the Durant's maze, Leavanny cleverly lined the cave with thread behind the group to mark the way out of the maze. Once they found the Durant's nest, Leavanny created leafy cocoons for Ash and Scraggy so they could retrieve the still sleeping Axew. Leavanny joined the others in fighting the Durant after Ash revealed himself, however the team's moves were all blocked by Protect. After Pikachu, Scraggy and Emolga managed to defeat the swarm, Leavanny led the gang back through the maze and to safety.

In Rocking the Virbank Gym! Part 1, Ash chose Leavanny as his third Pokémon in his Gym battle with Roxie, whose Koffing had already defeated Ash's Boldore and Unfezant. Though Ash knew Grass-types were at a disadvantage against Poisons, he was not discouraged. Leavanny first attacked Koffing with Energy Ball, which scored a direct hit, both damaging Koffing and lowering its Special Defense. Koffing tried to counter with Gyro Ball, but it was quickly stopped by Leavanny's String Shot. Ash had Leavanny spin Koffing around with the thread, preventing it from attacking him, until he finally fired another Energy Ball, which was enough to finally defeat the Poison Gas Pokémon. Roxie next sent out her Scolipede. Leavanny's Razor Leaf didn't seem to do a thing against the giant Bug/Poison-type, and Roxie had Scolipede use Toxic on Leavanny, poison him. In the next episode, Leavanny fired an Energy Ball attack but Scolipede dodged it easily, before attacking Leavanny with Rock Tomb and Sludge Bomb, which, with the damage caused the worsening poison, was enough to defeat the Nurturing Pokémon.

In Jostling for the Junior Cup!, Leavanny was used in the first round of the Pokémon World Tournament Junior Cup against Marris's Karrablast. He was able to knock Karrablast out with a powerful Energy Ball attack and win the battle. Thus, Ash advanced to the second round.

In Strong Strategy Steals the Show!, Ash used Leavanny as his second Pokémon in his battle against Stephan during the Vertress Conference, sending him out against Stephan's Sawk. Although Leavanny was able to avoid Sawk's initial attempts of Close Combat and Karate Chop, as well as hit him with his new X-Scissor attack and capturing Sawk with String Shot but failing due to Sawk being powered up by Bulk Up, Sawk soon gained the upper hand by using Low Sweep, lowering Leavanny's speed and preventing him from dodging a barrage of Close Combat's which caused serious damage on Leavanny. This, however, caused Leavanny's Swarm Ability to activate, giving him a big power boost on his Bug moves. Using this new power, he launched a String Shot on Sawk in which Sawk was unable to break, even with Bulk Up, he then used a lot of powered up X-Scissor attacks on Sawk, but Stephan used this to his advantage by having Sawk use it to break the threads, then, after a hard-fought battle, Leavanny was finally brought down by a Bulk Up-powered Karate Chop from Sawk.

Decolore Islands
In Farewell, Unova! Setting Sail for New Adventures!, Professor Juniper sent Leavanny to Professor Oak's Laboratory before Ash left for Kanto, touring through the Decolore Islands. Ash called upon Leavanny in Butterfree and Me!, so he could help Ash evolve a wild Caterpie into a Butterfree. Leavanny was also shown in one scene making clothing for Caterpie. Leavanny later reunited with Ash and the entire Unova team at Oak's lab in The Dream Continues!. Leavanny joined in with them to launch a group attack on Team Rocket, using Energy Ball to send them blasting off for the final time in the Best Wishes series. Leavanny was left at the lab before Ash set off for the Kalos region.

Personality and characteristics
As a Sewaddle, Leavanny was childish, often doing things without warning when Ash first met him, such as attacking Pikachu for no reason other than wanting to battle. He was stubborn, and wouldn't admit his feelings for Ash right away, but after he had been saved a few times, he became more comfortable with Ash, and snuggled up to him. Since then, he had been very caring towards his Trainer, even to go so far as to wrap Burgundy's head in a String Shot web when she suggested Ash get rid of him.

Leavanny, as both a Sewaddle and Swadloon, was also competitive since his debut, and has a strong passion for battling. He always tried his hardest, allowing him to defeat two Pokémon he was at a strong disadvantage against (Burgh's Dwebble and Whirlipede). This also allowed him to evolve into Swadloon. Since he has evolved, Swadloon is a bit more mature, although he still got a bit childish when he believed Oshawott, Tepig and Scraggy took his food in Emolga and the New Volt Switch!. However, he still has a passion for battling. Swadloon also has some sewing skills, as seen in Movie Time! Zorua in "The Legend of the Pokémon Knight"!, where he helped make costumes for Luke's movie with his Leavanny.

After evolving into Leavanny, he adopted a more caring nature and acts like a parent to the other Pokémon. He also became very independent, prancing off on his own to find leaves to use for clothes, taking a lot of pride in his work. He is also able to make good use of his newly acquired skills, cleverly lining the Durant's maze with thread to mark the way out without being commanded to by his Trainer. As shown in Rocking the Virbank Gym! (Part 1) and Strong Strategy Steals the Show!, he has also been able to use these new skills in battle to powerful effect.
* Leavanny is Ash's only Grass Pokémon that is not a starter Pokémon.
* Leavanny is the first of Ash's Pokémon since his Krabby which he caught when he already had a full party of six Pokémon.
** It also marks the first time Ash has rotated his seventh Pokémon into his main team.
* As a Sewaddle, he was the first Pokémon in the anime to have his Ability confirmed without using it.
* Leavanny, upon evolving from Sewaddle to Swadloon, is the first of Ash's Pokémon to evolve during a Gym battle.
* Swadloon's evolution into Leavanny was first revealed in the Japanese ending Seven-colored Arch.
* Leavanny is the first Pokémon Ash has owned to have evolved via friendship.
* It the only Pokemon of Ash that has 2 drastic weaknesses. Fire and Flying type attacks do x4 times damage to leavanny.

* It is the only Pokemon of Ash that has only one weakness. That being grass.
