Mewtwo (Japanese: ミュウツー Mewtwo) is a Psychic legendary Pokémon introduced in Generation I. It is among the most well-known Pokémon, being the star of the first movie, and in Generation I, the most powerful Pokémon in regards to its stats.

It is not known to evolve to or from any other Pokémon.

Biology
Mewtwo is one of the first Pokémon created by science. The scientists who created it dreamed of creating the world's strongest Pokemon. It is widely considered to be unique, due to the fact that only one was genetically created. However, this has yet to be fully confirmed.

Physiology
Mewtwo is a creature with a humanoid posture, but has many feline features. Mewtwo's body is grayish-purple with a purple underside and a long, purple tail. Mewtwo has three circular digits on each appendage. It has purple eyes (some times blue when attacking) and two short ears.

One of Mewtwo's most notable features is the tube extending from the back of its skull to its spine. It is most likely a secondary spinal cord, or a system of nerves, allowing for an increased amount of blood and sensory transmission to the brain, heightening its psychic powers.

Gender differences
This Pokémon is a genderless species, though in the anime it speaks with a male voice.

Special abilities
Mewtwo is highly skilled with Psychic powers. It can levitate through use of telekinesis, speak telepathically, and take control of another living being's mind. Mewtwo is also capable of wielding various types of attacks (but to a lesser extent than Mew). To exert its powerful psychic abilities, it will stay motionless for long periods of time in intense concentration to raise its capabilities to the maximum power.

In the Pokémon Adventures manga, Mewtwo fights with a highly skilled combination of Psywaves and a giant spoon for long range and close range battles, respectively.

In the anime, Mewtwo also has the ability to telekinetically create massive hurricanes thought to be powerful enough to destroy the planet. Mewtwo has also stated it can block a Pokémon's special abilities in battle.

Behavior
Due to its early visions of the human race, Mewtwo is known to be very aggressive and thinks of nothing but battling and defeating its foes. Its viciousness results from the repeated recombining of its DNA and the loss of its friend Amber. During the anime special Mewtwo Returns, however, Mewtwo seems to have developed a very protective and guardian-like nature to the point of surrendering to Giovanni just to keep its fellow clones safe.

Habitat
Mewtwo, being a cloned Pokémon, has no natural habitat. However, it has been known to make its hideout in the lowest level of Cerulean Cave. Also, in the anime, Mewtwo has been seen roaming a large city under the cover of night. It generally likes to be in dark solitude, such as the darkness of a deep cave. However, in Pokémon Mystery Dungeon: Red and Blue Rescue Team, this artificial Pokémon is said to sleep in a cave located in the west.

Diet
Unknown.

In the games
According to the scientific logs found in the Pokémon Mansion of Cinnabar Island, Mewtwo was born of a pregnant Mew whose embryo had been tampered with to alter its DNA. It was held and studied in the mansion where the scientists, including Blaine and Dr. Fuji, performed horrific gene-splicing experiments that made it vicious and extremely powerful. It eventually broke free of the Mansion (destroying it in the process) and fled. The player will encounter it in Cerulean Cave, which is unable to be accessed until after he or she has proven his or her skill at the Indigo Plateau.
Major appearances
Mewtwo (anime)
While Mewtwo has been the Pokémon of focus of two movies, it also made brief appearances in The Battle of the Badge and Showdown at the Poké-Corral in its body armor. The first instance was when Giovanni used it to battle Gary's Gary and Nidoking. The second time was when Mewtwo totaled Giovanni's headquarters and flew off. While a scene involving Mewtwo and Giovanni did appear in It's Mr. Mime Time, it wasn't in the movie.

Other
A Mirage Mewtwo appears in The Mastermind of Mirage Pokémon and is the most powerful Pokémon controlled by the Mirage Master.

Minor appearances
Mewtwo appears chasing a Mew during the opening of The Rise of Darkrai.
Pokémon Adventures
Mewtwo (Adventures)
Mewtwo has a similar origin and personality to the Mewtwo that appeared in the anime. It is a genetically engineered Pokémon created by Blaine for Team Rocket by splicing Mew's DNA with his own. Blaine later defected from Team Rocket and hid himself away, as both he and Mewtwo were suffering from an illness caused by a shared psychic link due to their mutual DNA. Mewtwo went on a rampage and hid itself in the Cerulean Cave, but Red was able to capture him with a Master Ball and return him to Blaine so he could attempt to show the mutant compassion and, if possible, find a cure for their illness. Blaine and Mewtwo fought against Lance two years later, but were defeated when their condition weakened them and Blaine collapsed. The pair were later cured by the flames of Entei whom Blaine had earlier befriended and partnered with. Later, Blaine left Mewtwo on his own, and the legendary Pokémon only returned when he learned of Giovanni's plans to use Deoxys for nefarious purposes. Mewtwo joined up with Red to attempt to defeat Deoxys and Giovanni, and with Red's help managed to defeat the duo after a tough fight that nearly killed him. It has a Quiet nature.

In Pokémon Get da ze!
Shū's father is portrayed as having been the creator of Mewtwo after a failed five year search for the elusive Mew.

In Magical Pokémon Journey
During the final volume of this manga, Hazel goes to a forest in another dimension to find Mew so it can grant her a wish, and gets trapped by Mewtwo.

In the TCG
Other appearances
Super Smash Bros. Melee
Mewtwo is a playable character and is unlocked after a lot of playing in VS. Mode; either after 700 matches or 20 hours of combined play. The time taken is reduced by the number of human players, so Mewtwo can be unlocked after just five hours if four players are playing for the whole time.

Due to its large body and light weight, Mewtwo is easy to knock off the stage. In addition, Mewtwo is slow, lacks any fast defensive options, and also has general problems with some of its other moves such as lengthy charging and ending lag.

To make up for this, out of all other playable Pokémon, Mewtwo is the strongest in terms of percent-racking; has a tail with longer reach than most other fighters' moves; has an excellent recovery; has some of the most powerful throws in the game; and, when charged, has the strongest projectile of all playable characters (Shadow Ball).

Trophy information
Classic Mode
A genetically created Pokémon, Mewtwo is the result of many long years of research by a solitary scientist. Although Mewtwo was born from the genes of the legendary Pokémon Mew, its size and character are far different than its ancestor. Its battle abilities have been radically heightened, making it ruthless.

Adventure Mode
As Mewtwo relies mostly on its powerful brain, there are times when it scarcely uses its arms and legs. Since Mewtwo spends much of its time floating, it flies far when struck. Shadow Ball traces a jagged path once released: the longer Mewtwo holds it, the more powerful it becomes. Mewtwo uses Confusion to spin its foes around.

All-Star Mode
Mewtwo is definitely not a speedy character, but its ESP-powered grab and throw moves are comparatively strong. Teleport has a short range, but doesn't leave it open to attack. It's best used as an escape move during disturbances. Mewtwo can daze a foe if it makes eye contact and uses Disable; the move is useless unless Mewtwo is facing its enemy.

Super Smash Bros. Brawl
Mewtwo was cut from the sequel's roster. Internal data features data for seven characters not in the roster; Mewtwo included. It is currently unknown if it will be possible to utilize this data in any way. Known existing data within the game include: a Classic mode "Congratulations" picture for Mewtwo; unused voice files and sound effects; and even an empty audio file for the Wiimote, whenever he would be selected on the playable roster. While there is a possibility that some of the data for Mewtwo was merely recycled from Melee, recent hacking has proven that Mewtwo was seriously considered for the game, having the most scrapped in-game files than any of the other cut characters. Instead, Mewtwo appears as a collectible trophy after clearing All-Star mode on Intense difficulty.

He was most likely replaced by Lucario, since he shares several similar moves with it.
Trophy information
A Genetic Pokémon. This legendary Pokémon was based on a recombination of Mew's DNA, created by a scientist after years of research. However, Mewtwo greatly differs from Mew in both size and personality and is said to be the most twisted and savage Pokémon ever. Mewtwo has incredibly high combat abilities and uses Psychic- type attacks.

Merchandise
Mewtwo was one of the first four Pokémon designs revealed when the Pokémon 151 brand was first announced. In the shirt design, two Mewtwo are holding a 150 Crest with a DNA strand as its header. On top of it is a crown with a Poké Ball as its jewel.

Trivia
* Though it comes before Mew in the Pokédex, it must have been found after Mew, due to the fact that it was cloned from Mew.
* Mewtwo has the second highest Special Attack in the game, surpassed only by the Attack Forme of Deoxys.
* Mewtwo was initially the only Pokémon with a base stat total of 590 (increased to 680, due to the Special split, from Generation II onwards), at the time the highest in the game. It was later joined by Pokémon with a base stat total of 680, and finally surpassed by Arceus's total of 720.
* Mewtwo was the first Pokémon seen in the English dub, as it appears at the very beginning of the first dub opening.
* For unknown reasons, a shiny2 Mewtwo from will appear black instead of green when viewed through Pokémon Stadium 2.
* In the games, its birthday is February 6, as stated in a journal quote from the Pokémon Mansion.
* Mewtwo can learn damaging moves of all types except Dragon.
* Mewtwo is the only Pokémon with a base stat total of 680 that is not a version mascot.
* While widely regarded as the most powerful Pokémon, Mewtwo's moveset upon capture in HeartGold and SoulSilver is incredibly weak, with only one damaging move, itself a physical move, and three status moves that only affect stats, completely counter to Mewtwo's moveset upon capture in all previous games in which it was available, which featured Psychic, Recover, Swift, and another status move. It is unknown why Mewtwo's level-up learnset was not altered between the Sinnoh games and the Johto games considering that this happened to both Lugia and Ho-Oh, its equals in terms of stats, and also happened between the Hoenn games and the Kanto games for its own learnset.
* An image of Mewtwo is seen on the door to Bill's lighthouse in Mystery at the Lighthouse, which would mark it first minor appearance in the anime, as well as implying that Bill knows about the creature.
* Mewtwo, though officially genderless like most legendary Pokémon, speaks with an unmistakably masculine voice when it communicates through telepathy. This is interesting, due to the fact that it originated basically as an enhaced clone of Mew, who, though it does not speak at any point through telepathy, seems to have a much more feminine sound to its cry.
*It is also interesting to note that, though intended to be a stronger variation of Mew in all respects, Mewtwo can learn fewer moves via tutors and TMs than Mew, shares few learned moves with it, has lower potential Pokéathlon stats in two respects with it, and has a lower base Defense and Special Defense than it.
*Mewtwo and Rayquaza are the only Pokémon of their base stat total that do not have a signature move.

Its nature and origin are similar to elements of Mary Shelley's Frankenstein, in which a life-form created through unnatural means turns on its creators. Like Mew, Mewtwo has some feline characteristics. Its body structure is much larger as a result of gene-splicing.

Name origin
Mewtwo's name is a combination of Mew, referring to the Pokémon on which it was based, and two, indicating that it is a clone of Mew. It also sounds somewhat phonetically similar to the English word mutant (myūtanto).
An observation on egg hatching
"When a Pokémon is still in its egg, its happiness value is ignored and the happiness value is used as a decrementing step value that triggers the egg hatch when it reaches zero."
Unlikely - Cheat search couldn't find any values in RAM that decreased by any amount each step. Also, if "decrementing step value" means the happiness value is subtracted from a seperate counter (which I couldn't find), why do higher values give longer wait times? On 50, the egg would "take a long time" to hatch, while on 1 it was almost ready. --Kyoufu Kawa 18:18, 19 June 2008 (UTC)
Happiness from healing in Gen IV
I just checked this after reading on Serebii that healing a pokemon does not effect happiness. My pokemon was at a happiness of 208. I got into a random battle, got injured, and ran. I used a hyper potion on the pokemon, saved, and checked happiness again. It was still 208. Do we have any proof that this actually works? Because according to this, it doesn't. ==Base happiness==
This was alluded to briefly in the article, but I'm curious about the details of this mechanic. Most Pokémon, when caught, have a base happiness value of 70. There are, however, few exceptions to this, with certain species having either a higher (Clefairy, Chansey etc) or lower (Ralts, Absol etc) value when caught. It's also said that trading resets happiness to 70.

My question is: does this also apply to the species with non-standard base happiness? When Absol is traded, is its happiness reset to 70 or to zero? Similarly, what's the situation with eggs? Would a newly-hatched Absol have a happiness of 70 or zero? Do the modified happiness values apply only to Pokémon caught in the wild, or do they carry over to other methods of obtaining Pokémon as well? ===Company overview===

Silph Co. is the leading manufacturer of Pokémon technology. It is this company that produces the Poké Balls used by trainers to capture Pokémon, and they are constantly looking for ways to improve upon them. Their status made them a target in the Generation I storyline, in which Team Rocket orchestrated the takeover of their headquarters in Saffron City. The player, though, will arrive just in time to take on the mission of driving them out of the city, and the President of Silph will reveal afterwards the top-secret development Team Rocket was after: the Master Ball, which can catch any Pokémon without fail.

Headquarters
The Silph Co. Head Office Building is an eleven-floor skyscraper that is effectively a giant maze. In the games, the player must navigate using warp tiles in order to reach the board room on the top floor. The player must find the Card Key, which unlocks Silph's doors like a hotel key, on the fifth floor of the building in order to do this. All the while, the player must battle through numerous Team Rocket grunts, including the Rocket Brothers, and one Juggler.

Then the player must return to the third floor, open the doors in the center-left of the floor, and use the warp tile to the far left to be taken to the room with a further warp tile that leads to board room. Blue waits in that room and the player must face him before continuing on. After he has been beaten, the other person in the room will give the player a Lapras, an extremely rare Pokémon that cannot be obtained any other way in Generation I.

After this, the player may continue on to the board room to face Giovanni for the Master Ball. After rescuing Silph, the player is free to explore the building and talk to the employees.

In Generation II, Silph Co. has increased security, and the player is not allowed to enter the upper floors. One of the guards, however, will kindly give the player an Evolution-inducing held item for talking to him, which will allow a Porygon to evolve through a trade into Porygon2. In Generation IV's , the elevator has broken and is unsafe, denying the player access to the upper floors. However, one of the Hoenn region's starter Pokémon may be obtained here towards the end of the game from Hoenn Champion himself, Steven Stone. The alternate forms of Rotom may also be accessed here in Generation IV via the broken elevator. When Rotom is in the party the Silph Co. building will be deserted of all people, including Steven. The notebook present in the room Rotom's appliances can be found in indicates that Charon may have had past connection to the company. Generation IV also introduced a logo for the company that appears on the Pokégear and has a statue based on it in the company's building.
In the Pokémon Adventures manga
Silph Co. made a brief appearance at the end of Holy Moltres in the Red, Green & Blue, where Sabrina was in the office with Giovanni saying that they have captured all the Legendary Birds.

In Super Smash Bros.
Saffron City (stage)

Silph Co. appears in Saffron City as a playable stage in Super Smash Bros.. The battle takes place on the roof of Silph Co. and a few smaller surrounding buildings, along with two small moving platforms. This is the home stage of Pikachu and Jigglypuff in the game.

Certain Pokémon will emerge from the elevator on the Silph Co. building and attack briefly, similar to Pokémon summoned from Poké Balls. Occasionally, Pidgey, Fearow, Butterfree, and other Flying Pokémon will appear in the background.

Trivia
* Oddly enough, among the grunts and Team Rocket scientists in Silph Co. is Juggler Dalton, who attacks the player like any grunt, exclaiming that kids shouldn't be here. He battles the player with a Kadabra and a Mr. Mime. After the battle, he says that it's a long way to his boss, indirectly referring to Giovanni, which hints that Dalton is associated with Team Rocket (though is clearly not a grunt). He is also the only Team Rocket member not belonging to Team Rocket or Scientist Trainer classes.
*When the player encounters Scientist Taylor, before battle he says that he was shipped off to the "Tiksi branch" of the company, which after being defeated he says is "in Russian no-man's-land." This is another reference of the real world in Pokémon games, and shows that Silph probably has more branches than just the one in Saffron City.
*On the eleventh floor there is an accessible PC. It is possibly there to allow players with a full party to deposit a Pokémon so that they can receive the Lapras from the person on the seventh floor without having to go all the way to the Pokémon Center.

Name origin
It is speculated that Silph Co.'s name is derived from the sylph, a mythological creature.
Max (Japanese: マサト Masato) is a young boy from the anime, and one of the traveling companions of Ash. He is the only main character thus far who was not a Pokémon Trainer and he did not own any Pokémon during the entire Advanced Generation. He is the younger brother of May, and the son of Norman, the Petalburg Gym Leader, and Caroline.

Character
section

Max is somewhat of a know-it-all, relying mostly on book smarts than actual experience. He seems to have come under Brock's tutelage for real-world knowledge. A running gag in the series is that Max is often excited or happy to experience firsthand an attack or ability that a Pokémon is well known for, such as Sharpedo's Rough Skin, or Jigglypuff's Sing. Max also took Misty's bit for yanking Brock by the ear whenever Brock sees a pretty woman. Max also frequently shows tension between him and his older sister May, such as telling embarrassing stories about her to others or arguing with her about the way she does certain things. For example, in the movie Jirachi: Wish Maker, May asked Jirachi to "get rid of the problem," and Jirachi, supposedly reading Max's thoughts, teleported her to the top of the candy mountain upside down.

Max is unique of the main characters in that he actually knew of Ash before he met up with him. Max watched the Silver Conference live and then continually watched the videos he made of it. When he stopped to find out who was making noise in the gym, he was surprised to see one of the competitors standing in the Gym. However, the two did not get off to a good start as Max continued to put Ash down, assuming that he could have defeated Harrison. After seeing Ash battle Norman, however, Max became impressed with Ash and soon decided to travel with him and May. Max's admiration of Ash has been seen on numerous occasions since then, though he admires his father even more.

The question of Max's starter Pokémon was raised a number of times while he was traveling in Hoenn. Between the Hoenn starters, it appears that he would have chosen Treecko as that is what he told May she should have chosen. However, in Having a Wailord of a Time he speculates that he could receive anything. Not knowing who it will be leads to some of the conflict and resolution with his doppelgänger in Maxxed Out. At the end of that episode he stated that Max is lucky as he already knows who the Pokémon he will start his training with will be. Max finally did meet his future partner in Do I Hear a Ralts? when he befriended a weakened Ralts. Wanting to show his responsibility he took care of it and brought it to a Pokémon Center with a little help from Snorunt. When the two parted ways at the end of the episode, they promised to meet up again when Max was eligible to be a Trainer.

However, while Max does not own any Pokémon he has befriended a variety of different species during his travels: Poochyena, Jirachi, Deoxys, and a Shuppet in the episode Take This House and Shuppet. He simply played with the Shuppet, after fleeing from the team when he became angered with May. Max has also occasionally borrowed May's Munchlax, such as in Off the Unbeaten Path! when he needed a Pokémon to take part in an Orienteering contest.

Despite this, Max has been in a couple of Pokémon battles. In Gonna Rule the School, Max spent a day at Roxanne's Trainer's School where he battled with a Poliwag against a Magby. He used strategy in increasing Poliwag's defense as much as possible with Defense Curl, but this backfired when Magby's repeated attacks began to wear Poliwag down. In the episode Candid Camerupt!, Max borrowed Ash's Corphish for a battle against Vivi Winstrate.
At the end of Advanced Generation, May announced that she wished to travel to Johto alone. This initially upset Max but Ash cheered him up with the promise of a battle between the two when Max becomes a Trainer. He is currently staying at home in Petalburg City where he is taking lessons from his father and is helping to look after the Gym Pokémon. Max has received just two cameos since his departure, triggered by May's brief return for the Wallace Cup arc.

Pokémon
Due to not being a Trainer, he is unable to train his own Pokémon. Nevertheless, this hasn't stopped him from befriending or borrowing Pokémon, either wild or belonging to someone else. When Max battles with others' Pokémon, he tends to rely on defensive techniques such as Protect rather than battling offensively.

He convinced Ralts's family, Kirlia and Gardevoir, that he would help Ralts.
He eventually reached the Pokémon Center, where Ralts made a full recovery from pneumonia. When Team Rocket tried to steal Ralts, it blasted them away with a powerful Psychic.
Afterwards, Kirlia and Gardevoir arrived to take back Ralts, but it did not want to leave Max and wanted to go with him. Max promised that he would return for it when he is old enough to become a Pokémon Trainer. It has not been seen since.
Ash and Max are surprised because Shroomish is in the city instead of the forest, where it normally would be. They think it might have been separated from its trainer and maybe they should take it to a Pokémon Center. * Although Max took Misty's role of pinching Brock's ear when he sees a pretty girl, he didn't start doing that until he saw Misty do it in The Princess and The Togepi!.
* His Japanese name, Masato can be taken to be 正人, which literally means correct/elegant man, possibly referring to the fact that he is usually always right.
* Max was the first main character besides Ash to have a lead role in a Pokémon movie, as all movies before Jirachi: Wish Maker had either Ash or a character of the day with the lead role.
* In the Ruby and Sapphire versions, an overworld character walking around Brendan/May's house looks much like Max. In Emerald, he was changed to a generic kid sprite.
** In Emerald, Brendan/May is given a little brother, but there is little other resemblance to Max.
* Max is one of Ash's only two friends to never have met Gary Oak. The other is May, Max's sister.
* Max choosing to start out his journey with a Ralts mirrors Wally's first Pokémon.
*Max is the only one of Ash's friends who has not owned a Pokémon.
Mewtwo (Japanese: ミュウツー Mewtwo) is a Psychic legendary Pokémon.

It is not known to evolve to or from any other Pokémon.

It is one of the most famous legendary Pokémon, being the subject of the the very first Pokémon movie, a later special that continues its story, and as a fighter in the game, Super Smash Bros. Melee.

Biology
Mewtwo is one of the first Pokémon created by science. The scientists who created it dreamed of the first clone to be made by him.

This Pokémon is a genderless species.

Special abilities
Mewtwo is highly skilled with Psychic powers. It can levitate through use of telekinesis (though it can't have this ability), speak telepathically, and take control of another living being's mind.

However, it has been known to make its hideout in Cerulean Cave's basement.

According to the scientific logs found in the Pokémon Mansion of Cinnabar Island, Mewtwo was born of a pregnant Mew whose embryo had been tampered with and its DNA had been repetitively spliced. It was held and studied in the mansion where the scientists, including Blaine and Dr. Fuji (now known as Mr. Fuji), performed horrific gene-splicing experiments that made it vicious and extremely powerful. It eventually broke free of the Mansion (destroying it in the process) and fled to the Unknown Dungeon. There, the player may capture it after beating the Elite Four. Cerulean Cave collapses three years later, and it leaves the mysterious In-battle effect item in a lake near the collapsed Cerulean Cave (implying that the encounter did happen). However, HeartGold and SoulSilver restored the cave and left Mewtwo in it, proving that Red never did encounter it.

Mewtwo (TCG)

Trivia
* Though it comes before Mew in the Pokédex, it has to have been found after Mew, due to the fact that it was cloned from Mew.
* Mewtwo has the second highest Special Attack in the game, surpassed only by the Attack Forme of Deoxys. This makes it the Pokémon with the highest Special Attack if event Pokémon are not counted.
It is unknown why Mewtwo's level-up learnset was not altered between DPPt and HGSS considering that this happened to both Lugia and Ho-Oh, its equals in terms of stats, and also happened between RSE and FRLG for its own learnset.
* An image of Mewtwo is seen on the door to Bill's lighthouse in Mystery at the Lighthouse, which would mark it first minor appearance in the anime, as well as implying that Bill knows about the creature.
* Mewtwo is the first, and currently the only Pokémon created by genetic engineering.
* Mewtwo, though officially genderless like most legendary Pokémon, speaks with an unmistakably masculine voice when it communictes through telepathy. This is interesting, due to the fact that it originated basically as an enhaced clone of Mew, who, though it does not speak at any point through telepathy, seems to have a much more feminine sound to its cry.
*It is also interesting to note that, though intended to be a stronger variation of Mew in all respects, Mewtwo can learn fewer moves via tutors and TMs then Mew, shares few learned moves with it, has lower potential Pokéathlon stats in two respects with it, and has a lower base Defense and Special Defense than it.

Origin
Mewtwo is the result of humankind's attempts at creating a genetically enhanced clone of a Pokémon.
