Route 36 (Japanese: ３６ばんどうろ Route 36) is a route in central Johto connecting 37, Violet City, and National Park. The northern entrance to the Ruins of Alph is located at eastern end of the route. The route also contains a shortcut to 35.

Route description
Ecruteak-Violet
Heading south from Ecruteak, Route 36 is split in half by a series of trees. The western half proceeds south, passing a Trainer duo before merging with the eastern half southwest of a grass patch that blankets the southern portion of the eastern half. Now one route, Route 36 continues south, turning to the east and becoming extremely narrow as it meets the Route 35 connector path. At this junction, Trainers have encountered Sudowoodo several times, using a SquirtBottle to move the Pokémon. In the games, the SquirtBottle can only be obtained after the player has obtained the Plain.

East of the junction, a man will give away the move Rock Smash in the form of TM08 in Generation II or HM06 in Generation IV, however in Generation II the Sudowoodo must first be cleared. To his northeast on Thursdays, Arthur of the Week Siblings will give Trainers a Hard Stone the first time they meet him, and a List of Ribbons in the games the second time and all others (Generation IV only). South of this point is the north entrance to the Ruins of Alph, which also has an entrance on 32.

The route continues due east before turning south as it arrives in the west side of Violet.

Route 35 connector
This path is an extension of Route 36 that links Route 36 to Route 35 and the National Park. Heading south from its northern terminus at the "Sudowoodo Junction," the route curves west, passing Schoolboy Alan and a grass patch before arriving at a T-intersection. To the north is another Trainer, an Ice Berry tree, and the east entrance to the National Park. To the south is Route 35 (however, without Cut, this path is a dead end).

In Pokémon Crystal, Suicune appears on the overworld near the Ice Berry tree, but flees if the player gets close.
Route 36 briefly appeared in All About Arceus II, where Gold and Bugsy traveled through the route while pursuing Arceus, eventually leading them to the Ruins of Alph.

Pokémon Gold & Silver: The Golden Boys
Route 36 appeared in A Huge Mysterious Tree!!. After learning that the Pokémon Summit was in threat of being cancelled due to the route junction between Violet, Goldenrod, and Ecruteak being blocked, Gold and Whitney traveled there to get rid of the giant tree that was blocking the route. Upon arrival, they saw that the people who had been unable to proceed had set up camps and stalls near the giant tree. However, Gold and Whitney's attacks only caused the tree to start moving and reveal itself as a giant Sudowoodo. When Sudowoodo displayed dislike towards Whitney's Cleffa's Squirt Bottle, Gold realized it was actually a Rock type and decided to use water on it, causing it to shrink down and reveal a normal-sized Sudowoodo that had covered itself in dried mud to make itself look bigger. Gold then caught the Sudowoodo, and the battle experience allowed his Totodile and Pidgey to evolve into Gold and Gold.

Trivia
* In Crystal, a small patch of grass was added to the route in the area north of the entrance to the Ruins of Alph, allowing the player to catch the Pokémon of this route on their first visit to Violet City. The levels of the wild Pokémon were adjusted for this earlier availability. This patch of grass is absent in Gold, Silver, and their remakes.

The Global Terminal (Japanese: グローバルターミナル Global Terminal), known as the Global Trade Station (Japanese: グローバルトレードステーション Global Trade Station) in Diamond and Pearl, is a location that allows players of the Generation IV and V games to interact in different ways via the Nintendo Wi-Fi Connection.

In Sinnoh-based Generation IV games, in order to access the terminal located in Jubilife City, players must have the first Badge of the region, while it is instantly accessible in Johto as soon as the player arrives in Goldenrod City, the city in which it is located (this may be due, of course, to the fact that one cannot get to Goldenrod without the first Badge). The player's first Pokémon is returned to its Poké Ball before entering in HeartGold and SoulSilver.

In Unova, the Global Terminal can be accessed in every Pokémon Center after obtaining the first Badge.

After the shutting down of Nintendo Wi-Fi Connection's servers, it is no longer possible to access the Global Terminal's features, though the building itself can still be entered and explored.

In Pokémon Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl, Sinnoh's Global Terminal has been replaced with the Global Wonder Station.

Pokémon Diamond and Pearl
Global Trade Station
Global Trade Station
The Global Trade Station, or the GTS for short, allows access to the Global Trade System, a worldwide network over which players of Diamond, as well as HeartGold and SoulSilver, can trade Pokémon via the Nintendo Wi-Fi Connection.

In order to access the GTS in Diamond and Pearl, the player must have the Coal Badge.

If the player talks with the woman at the counter, she will direct them into a room where they can either put up a Pokémon to be traded or trade a Pokémon they own for one that has been put up for trade.

Inside, there is a large globe, called the Geonet, on which players can indicate their location and on which small dots representing players they have traded with will appear. When the player first logs on to Geonet, they will be asked where they live, so that other players may locate their position in the world.

Website
Official site for Global Trade Station announces closure
A website dedicated to the Global Trade Station was put up in 2007<!--or 2008-->. It allowed players to see trades all over the world and to view statistics relating to trades on the GTS, among several other features such as the ability to read information on the countries of the world and the most popular Pokémon traded per country.

It also featured a daily "GTS Journal", a printable newspaper article which reported an analysis on a Pokémon that had recently become prominent within the trading network in some way, as well as a comparison with a different Pokémon that has experienced similar success on the network. It also hosted small polls. At the start of a new month, a V.I.P. Pokémon would be chosen, specifically one that had been traded across the world most within the previous month.

The site announced on August 14, 2010, that it would close down a month later, possibly to make way for the new generation of Pokémon games. On September 14, 2010, the site officially closed and the GTS Journal is no longer available for reading or printing.

On June 20, 2012, the Pokémon Global Link site was updated and now includes many of the features that used to be on the old GTS site. For example, the ability to see trades and view statistics about Pokémon and countries was carried over. The GTS Journal did not make a return, and the site no longer features information on trades within the Generation IV games.
Pokémon Platinum, HeartGold, and SoulSilver
Ground floor
In Platinum, the GTS building has been replaced by the Global Terminal, which was redesigned to contain more features. It is located in the same place as the old GTS. The Vs. Recorder is widely used here. The features of the Global Trade System here are similar to the ones in Diamond and Pearl, except that a choice to narrow the Pokémon found in Seek Pokémon feature by location has been added.

If the player talks with the woman at the counter located in the upper left corner of the ground floor, she will direct them into a room in which they can either put up a Pokémon to be traded or trade a Pokémon they own for one that has been put up for trade.

The Geonet reappears in the Global Terminal, on which players can indicate their location, and on which small dots representing players they have traded with will appear. When the player first logs on to Geonet, it will ask where the player lives in the world, allowing details for other players to locate their position in the world.

In Platinum, a woman on the first floor will give the player one Backdrop each day once the player has obtained the Fashion Case. The Backdrops that the player can obtain are Ranch, City at Night, Snowy Town, Fiery, Outer Space, Cumulus Cloud, Desert, Flower Patch, Future Room, Open Sea, Total Darkness, Tatami Room, and Gingerbread Room.

In HeartGold and SoulSilver, the Global Terminal has the same interior as the one in Platinum.

The ground floor is the room seen when entering the Global Terminal. It can be reached when in the other floors by using the blue warp panels. There are four points of interest on this floor; the Global Trade Station which is located on the northwestern corner, the Geonet located just below it, the Trainer Rankings located on the eastern side and the northern set of blue machines, and the Battle Video Rankings located just below the Trainer Rankings, in the southeastern corner. The information desk is located next to entrance, which contains two ladies that will give information about the Global Terminal. There are also the warp panels located on the northeastern corner.

The first floor in the Global Terminal was initially the total Global Trade Station in Diamond and Pearl, still holding the Geonet and the actual counter to the trade room. However, in Platinum, it was expanded to include the other machines, while pushing the counter to the western corner. This floor is more likely the ranking floor, containing the Trainer Rankings, which ranks the results of Trainers from around the world by divided by team, as well as the Battle Video Rankings, which ranks Battle Videos from around the world by popularity.

Trainer Rankings
The blue portal machine found below shows the <!--top?--> Trainer rankings. It sorts the results of Trainers from around the world by teams and by categories. The player's own results are sent in automatically. Once the ranking machine is accessed, it will connect to the Nintendo Wi-Fi Connection and start up the Vs. Recorder. The player can see the current week's and past week's results.

Battle Video Rankings
The blue portal machine found on top shows the most viewed uploaded Battle Videos. It ranks Battle Videos from around the world by popularity. The player can even save their favorite video. The player's named will be displayed along with their party Pokémon, in ascending order.

Second floor
Players can go to the second floor by using the green warp panels. There are two points of interest on this floor; Box Data, located on the western side and the northern set of green machines, and the Dress-Up Data, located just below the Box Data, in the southeastern corner. The warp panels are located on the eastern side, the blue warp panel located on the northern corner will take people down to the first floor, while the pink warp panel located on the southern corner will take people up to the third floor. There is a PC located just north of the Box Data machine.

The second floor is more of a photo scene floor, that allows people to take pictures and send it to their friends. The Box Data will allow players to take a picture of one of their Boxes and upload them here to be seen by others all over the world, while the Dress-Up Data, allows players to pictures taken at the second floor of Jubilife TV can be uploaded and viewed here.

Box Data
Players can take a picture of one of their Boxes and upload them here to be seen by others all over the world. Upload data about the Boxes where the player's Pokémon are deposited, and see other Trainer' Boxes. The Box Data is the green set of machines located on the northwestern side of the second floor.

The player is able to show off a PC Box full of Pokémon. By selecting the player favorite wallpaper and arrangement of their Pokémon according to a favorite theme, and upload their data for everyone to see. The player is also able to view other Trainers' Box Data from the menu.

Dress-Up Data
Pictures taken at the second floor of Jubilife TV or the Goldenrod Tunnel can be uploaded and viewed here. Player's can upload their Pokémon Dress-Up photo and see other Trainers' photos. The player is also able to view other Dress-Up Data from the menu.

Third floor
Players can go here by using the pink warp panels. There is only one point of interest on this floor; the Battle Video Gallery located on the western side and the set of the pink machines. The warp panels are located on the eastern side, the blue warp panel located on the northern corner will take people down to the first floor, while the green warp panel located on the southern corner will take people down to the second floor. There is a PC located just north of the Battle Video Gallery machine.

The third floor is the battle floor, that allows player's to upload their Battle Videos here though the use of the Vs. Recorder. Players may search Battle Videos in several ways, such as by facility, Pokémon in the battles and by using the number code given after uploading a video.

Battle Video Gallery
Players may upload their Battle Videos here. They may also view and download the videos of others. The player can send their own Battle Video and view other Trainer's Battle Videos. Battle Videos will be assigned a 12-digit number. The player can pass this number to other players, so they can find the player's Battle Video. Players may search Battle Videos in several ways, such as by facility, Pokémon in the battles and by using the number code given after uploading a video.

The recorded battles, known as Battle Videos, can be found in the Vs. Recorder. The Vs. Recorder can record battles from the Battle Frontier, wireless play and Wi-Fi. Players can also download videos from the Global Terminal which can be viewed in the second option. The third option deletes recorded videos. Battle Videos change depending on the game's language. Everything changes to the game's language except the names. For example, watching another player's video from a Japanese version of Platinum which features Dahlia in an English game would show her name as Arcade Star ダリア and her Pokémon would have Japanese names. In the third room, player's can open the Global Mode in the Vs. Recorder to view and upload videos of battles. The first option allows the player to view battles. It can be searched by the last thirty that were uploaded, choosing the Trainer and the type of battle or by putting in numbers. The second option allows the player to upload their own battle. Several numbers are given which are used in searching for it.

Uploaded videos do not remain in the Global Terminal forever, so codes might not always work or show the same video.

Generation V
While no longer a location, the Global Terminal and all of its features can be accessed from any Pokémon Center's second floor, except the one in the Pokémon League (due to its lack of a second floor). Players must simply talk to the receptionist at the right-hand counter to access the Global Trade Station and all of the Global Trade System features. New features added in this generation include a new trading method called GTS Negotiations, and an option to upload photos taken from Pokémon Musicals.

Random Matchup
Global Battle Union#Random Matchup
In addition to being able to trade Pokémon at the Global Trade Station, there is now another option known as Random Matchup. Trainers must first select a battle mode, either Single Battle, Double Battle, Triple Battle, Rotation Battle, or Launcher Battle. The player will then be connected and asked to choose either free battle or rating battle, which records the data from the battle. The player will then be sent to a battle with a Trainer who chose the same option. The two Trainers will choose several of their Pokémon from their initial party of six and begin battle.

Many stats for the Random Matchup can be accessed on the Pokémon Global Link, under the Global Battle Union.

There is a shrine for the guardian of the forest, Celebi. In Crystal, if Kurt has already examined the GS Ball, placing it in the shrine will cause a level 30 Celebi to face the player. Though the GS Ball was never distributed as an event item outside of Japan, the Virtual Console release of Crystal allows it to be obtained in all regions through normal gameplay. In HeartGold and SoulSilver, the shrine also may initiate a special event in which Celebi will take the player back in time and allow them to battle Giovanni.

Geography
Ilex Forest is a winding path through dense trees connecting Azalea Town and 34. Travelers can enter at either end with no trouble at all, but to pass through to the other side they must be able to use the move Cut outside of battle.

Cut
When the player enters the forest, the only way to proceed through the next section of the forest is to return runaway Farfetch'd for the charcoal maker's son, thus receiving 01 as a reward, allowing the player to clear the path from a cuttable tree. The Farfetch'd will run away and allow the player to return them after the player defeats the rival in Azalea Town.

In Generation II, the player needs to use the forest's layout to chase it back, using a looped path on the far eastern side, as well as a ledged area. In order to tactically return the runaway Farfetch'd to its owner, the player must corner it and lead it into the direction of the owner.

In Generation IV, there are two Farfetch'd and each needs to be approached while they are facing the other way. The player can do this by walking over sticks and, by doing so, causing them to rustle. This grabs the Farfetch'd's attention and, if no other sticks are rustled, may allow them to be approached from behind. Once the Farfetch'd are returned, the player will receive the HM01.

Headbutt
In the center of the forest is a man who, in Generation II, will hand out 02. Using Headbutt on one of the trees in the forest can sometimes yield a wild Pokémon, which Trainers may wish to capture.

In Generation IV, as Headbutt is no longer a TM, the man is instead a Move Tutor who will teach Headbutt for free an unlimited number of times. Now all trees in all locations can be Headbutted, but not all will yield a Pokémon.

Ilex Forest Shrine
Ilex Forest shrine
spoilers
The shrine is a small structure located in the Ilex Forest. It is used in obtaining two event-exclusive Pokémon. It can be found in the deepest part of Ilex Forest, situated right in the center of the forest itself.

In Japanese and Virtual Console versions of Crystal, the player can place the GS Ball on the shrine to make a Celebi appear, with an opportunity to capture it.

In HeartGold and SoulSilver, the player can obtain a special Pichu here, Spiky-eared Pichu, if the Pikachu-colored Pichu (or one of its evolutions) is the first Pokémon in the party. This Pichu is unique from others as it has a different pattern on one of its ears. If the shrine is approached with a promotional event Celebi as the partner Pokémon, Celebi will take the player back in time—in which they witness the secret to Silver's past, and in which they battle his father, Giovanni the boss of Team Rocket, in Tohjo Falls, before he responds to the hijacked Goldenrod Radio Tower's broadcast pleading for his return.
Pokémon the Series
In GS, people live in Ilex Forest, and a Nurse Joy operates a Pokémon Center to cater for the many Trainers that use it as a thoroughfare. In JN, the forest's portrayal is closer to its game portrayal, with no signs of permanent human residence shown there.

GS
Ilex Forest first appeared in A Farfetch'd Tale, where Ash and ashfr used it to travel from Azalea Town to Goldenrod City. It remains unclear if the episodes from Tricks of the Trade to The Fortune Hunters take place within Ilex Forest as well, however.

In A Farfetch'd Tale, the group met a young charcoal-making apprentice named Sylvester and his disobedient Farfetch'd, who continued to run away from him. Ash and his friends helped Sylvester track Farfetch'd down, only to realize it had been kidnapped by TRT. Sylvester and Farfetch'd went on to join forces to defeat the trio, and Sylvester then taught Farfetch'd how to use Cut. Brock was familiar with Ilex Forest's world-famous charcoal, and uses it for his cooking. After helping Sylvester, Brock received some charcoal from Sylvester's master (father in the English dub), the local charcoal maker Yosaku.

JN
In Time After Time!, Goh was revealed to have visited Ilex Forest three years earlier, meeting a boy named Horace and looking for the Ilex Forest shrine together with him. However, when Horace didn't show up the next day to resume the search, Goh felt betrayed and thought Horace had lied about them being friends. In the present day, Goh revisited the forest while on holiday with his parents Camille and Walker in Azalea Town. There, he caught a List of Goh's Pokémon and an List of Goh's Pokémon and found his way to the shrine, where he discovered a letter left for him by Horace, in which he explained that he had been unable to meet him as promised due to him having caught a cold. Horace subsequently also appeared at the shrine, allowing the two boys to restore their childhood friendship in person while being unknowingly observed by two Celebi, including a Shiny one.

Gold, Silver & Crystal
Ilex Forest first appeared in You Ain't Nothin' But A Houndour, where a tree-cutter was doing his shift for the day. When Gold arrived in the forest, he saw the tree-cutter and his Farfetch'd unconscious. A mysterious voice then told Gold to stay away, before revealing itself as the Masked Man. Gold engaged in a battle with the Masked Man, and was about to be defeated when the Masked Man saw that the forest's shrine started to glow. However, the glow faded before the Masked Man could reach it, after which he left the forest.
spoilers
Starting from The Last Battle VII, Ilex Forest became the setting of the climax of the arc. Green entered the forest in order to find the shrine, only to be confronted by Will and Karen, whom the Masked Man had ordered to guard the shrine alongside Tower duo. To Will and Karen's surprise, Green had managed to overcome her ornithophobia by caught the legendary birds, which she sent out to battle Lugia and Ho-Oh. Meanwhile, Gold contronted the Masked Man as he was en route to the forest after stealing the recipe of the GS Ball from Kurt at the Indigo Plateau. During the battle, Gold managed to shatter his mask, revealing his true identity as Pryce of the Mahogany Gym. When Pika and Chuchu intervened in the battle, Gold was forced to give up fighting so he could protect the two Pikachu and their Egg. After Pryce had escaped, the Egg hatched in Gold's hands, revealing a Pichu, whom Gold nicknamed Pibu and left with to pursue Pryce.

Meanwhile, Red and Blue arrived at the forest from Dig and joined the battle on Green's side. They witnessed countless Pokémon, sent to the Azalea Town Pokémon Center via the Pokémon Storage System, gathering to connect with Lugia and Ho-Oh, freeing them from the Masked Man's control. Yellow then also arrived, having been chased there from 34 by Neo Team Rocket members, followed by Crystal, who teleported to the forest with the help of the Legendary beasts. With Silver being present as well, the Pokédex holders of Kanto and Johto joined to battle against Pryce, who used puppets made of ice to hold them off while he used the GS Ball to catch Celebi as it emerged from the crack of time within the shrine and ordered it to transport him to the past.

Riding the Legendary beasts, Gold, Silver, and Crystal pursued Pryce into the crack of time, where they found out that Pryce's plans as the Masked Man, including the establishment of Neo Team Rocket and the atrocities he and his underlings had committed, had all been in an effort to allow him to acquire Celebi and travel into the past to save his two Lapras, which had died in an accident before his eyes when he was younger. Using Pibu's "Volt Tackle" attack, Gold was able to destroy the GS Ball and set Celebi free. When Pryce started hearing the song "Boy and his Lapras", which his friends had made for him in his youth to cure him of his depression, and saw the offspring of his two Lapras rejoining its parents in the past, he was finally able to let go of his anger, willingly leaving himself to float within the crack of time.

Following Pryce's defeat, the Pokédex holders reunited in Ilex Forest. Blue intended to bring Silver to the police due to his theft of Professor Elm's Silver, but Gold, who had given the police false testimony regarding Silver's appearance, told Blue to let him go, since he didn't look anything like the person on the wanted poster. Gold subsequently departed with Red in order to training with him on Mt. Silver, while the other Pokédex holders returned to their everyday lives. Will and Karen, meanwhile, encountered Koga and Bruno, whom they joined as fellow people with experiences of having been on the wrong side of the law.

HeartGold & SoulSilver
In a flashback in All About Arceus VII, Celebi was seen rescuing Pryce from the crack of time, only for him to be confronted by Giovanni the moment he exited the shrine. Since Pryce had been responsible for kidnapping Giovanni's son, Silver, years earlier, Giovanni attacked him on sight, but the situation was prevented escalating by the arrival of Lance, who had helped to organize Pryce's return. The reason for this was that, while floating in the crack of time, Pryce had foreseen a disaster that could destroy the Johto and Sinnoh regions. Giovanni, who had come to the forest to seek Celebi's help in curing his long-time illness, ordered the Team Rocket Elite Trio to guard the forest and Celebi while he, Lance, and Pryce headed to the Sinjoh Ruins to stop the disaster from occuring.

In All About Arceus IX, the Team Rocket Elite Trio encountered Gold's Pibu and a spiky-eared Pichu, who were helping Celebi in gathering ingredients for Giovanni's medicine. Deeming the two Pokémon harmless, they resumed their patrol, only to be confronted by a group of Team Rocket Grunts, who had grown suspicious of their unexplained activity. When they spotted Celebi, they tried to capture it, but the trio helped Celebi to escape and told it to deliver the completed medicine to Giovanni at the Ruins of Alph.
Pokémon Gold & Silver: The Golden Boys
Ilex Forest appeared in For Pikachu's Sake!! The Search For The Missing Farfetch'd. Soon after departing from Azalea Town, Gold encountered a man who asked for his help in finding his runaway Farfetch'd. Whitney then also appeared, agreeing to help if she received a cute Pokémon as a reward once she was done. However, since the man didn't have any Pokémon other than Farfetch'd, Whitney declared that she'd instead take Gold's Pikachu if she won, whereas Gold would get a Plain from her if he won, surprising Gold with her Gym Leader status.

The search for Farfetch'd commenced, with Gold's Pidgey and Whitney's Ditto soon locating it. Since they reached Farfetch'd simultaneously, Gold and Whitney decided to settle things with a battle. The battle between Gold's Bayleef and Whitney's Miltank was called off when it almost resulted in Whitney's Cleffa being buried under falling rubble. Whitney blamed herself of having put her own Pokémon's safety at risk and said that she had lost. Gold, however, declared that he was the true loser, as he considered his strategy and training skills inferior to hers. As such, Whitney then proceeded to claim Gold's Pikachu as her own, much to Gold's disagreement. Meanwhile, the Farfetch'd man was left alone, with Gold and Whitney having completely forgotten about their mission to return his Pokémon to him.
Trivia
* Ilex Forest is the only forest where wild Pokémon can be encountered but there is no tall grass.
* In the Generation II games, the Pokégear's map made it appear that a route existed between Azalea Town and Ilex Forest, even though this is not the case. This was corrected for the map in Generation IV.<!--we need an image of the map in Generation II-->
* In Crystal, if the player has retrieved the GS Ball from Kurt, the leaves on the big trees in Ilex Forest are moving. They stop moving again once Celebi has been encountered.
* According to an interview uploaded in the official Game Freak's YouTube channel about Celebi's creation, it seems that no one at the company knows nor remembers why the shrine was added to the map. It wasn't until they heard rumors about Celebi having a relation with the shrine that they included an in-game event where it could be found there.

Name origin
"Ubame" comes from ウバメガシ ubamegashi, Ubame oak (Quercus phillyraeoides), a species of tree used to make binchōtan charcoal.

"Ilex" is the genus of holly. Considering its Japanese name, it may also be derived from Quercus ilex, the holm oak or holly oak, another tree commonly used in charcoal manufacture.
Main series
In the anime, the Dragonspiral Tower is located near the White Ruins, as first stated in New Places... Familiar Faces! by Cedric Juniper. Even though the tower's interior was never visited in the anime, it served as a recognizable landmark for Ash and ashfr during their journey to the White Ruins.

The tower made its first proper appearance in Secrets From Out of the Fog!, where Ash, Cilan, and Iris were transported near it by N, Anthea, and Concordia. Recognizing it as the Dragonspiral Tower, Ash and his friends realized they were nearing their destination. In Ash and N: A Clash of Ideals!, Ash and company went to see the tower more closely. Cilan proceeded to explain about how it is said to be the oldest tower in Unova, and how no one seems to know who or why it had been built.

Pokémon Black 2 and White 2 Animated Trailer
The Dragonspiral Tower appeared in the beginning of the Pokémon Black Version 2 and Pokémon White Version 2 Animated Trailer. N was seen standing atop it, telling the viewers to think of their Pokémon and asking them what they are striving for.

Pokémon Evolutions
The Dragonspiral Tower appeared in a flashback in The Plan, where N was seen there, awakening Tao trio (Adventures) from the Dark Stone and befriending it, before flying away on its back.
Pocket Monsters BW: The Heroes of Fire and Thunder
The Dragonspiral Tower appeared in The King's Identity...!!, where Shin and N traveled there together. Upon arrival, Togari battled Shin to give N enough time to befriend Zekrom. Once he had done so, N revealed his position as the king of Team Plasma to Shin.
Black & White
In Finding Truth, after successfully stealing the Dark Stone at the Nacrene Museum, Ghetsis brought the stone to the tower where N was waiting for him. N awakened Zekrom from its slumber, and managed to convince it to join his cause.

In School of Hard Knocks, Brycen investigated the tower and discovered that Team Plasma had successfully awakened Zekrom.
Trivia
* The cycling and surfing themes aren't used outside the tower. It is not possible to use the Bicycle inside the tower.
* Dragonspiral Tower's background music, リュウラセンの塔 Dragonspiral Tower, bears strong resemblances to fellow Nintendo platform compositions 樹海の神秘 Jukai no Shimpi (transl. "Mystery of the Forest", from Chrono Trigger) and 神殿ダンジョン Shinden Danjon (transl. "Sanctuary Dungeon", from The Legend of Zelda: A Link to the Past).
** This background music also occurs in the Celestial Tower and the Giant Chasm.
* As the player ascends Dragonspiral Tower in Black and White, Reshiram's rampage is signaled by an unidentified character shouting "Burn, baby, burn!" while Reshiram's cry plays. This is a reference to the chorus of the 1976 song "Disco Inferno". The corresponding text in Pokémon Black, shouted while Zekrom's cry plays, is "It's shocking!!"
** No speech is present in the Japanese versions, where the shouted text is merely onomatopoeia accompanying the cries of Reshiram and Zekrom—"モエルーワ！" and "バリバリダー！！ respectively.
