According to [[Tracey]], she is known as "one of the toughest trainers in the [[Orange Crew]]." She specializes in {{t|Water}}-type Pokémon, and one of the rules of her Gym is that opponents are required to use Water-type Pokémon aswell.

She lives with [[Senta]], her assistant and little brother, who is also a [[Pokémon trainer]].

Cissy is introduced in the [[anime]] when [[Ash Ketchum]] challenged her for the Coral Eye Badge in ''[[EP087|Fit To Be Tide]]''.

Ash discovered that Cissy, like the rest of the Orange Crew, conducts a different kind of Gym [[Pokémon battle|battle]] than what he was used to in the [[Indigo League]]. The '''GS Ball''' is a special and mysterious [[Poké Ball]]. It is colored gold and silver and has the letters "GS" inscribed upon it.

In the [[anime]], [[Professor Ivy]]had called upon the help of [[Professor Oak]] to study it, but couldn't figure out how to open it or transmit it via PC. So Professor Oak asked [[Ash]] to go to the [[Orange Archipelago]] and get it from [[Professor Ivy]]. This prompted Ash's participation in the [[Orange League]].

When [[Professor Oak]] couldn't do anything with it, Ash was once again asked to deliver it to [[Kurt]], a Poké Ball researcher and manufacturer living in [[Johto]]'s [[Azalea Town]]. It still resides there to this day, and its purpose is, as of 2006, unknown.

In [[Pokémon Crystal]], players could use the mobile phone system to gain a GS Ball that they could take to Illex Forest. Using it at the forest's shrine would prompt an encounter where a wild {{p|Celebi}} could be captured.

In the [[Pokémon Special]] manga, the GS Ball was created by the [[Mask of Ice]] - using the feathers of {{p|Lugia}} and {{p|Ho-Oh}} - to capture Celebi. Only the feathers of the two [[Legendary Pokémon]] could contain Celebi, and prevent their holder from suffering the ill effects of time travel. [[Gold (Special)|Gold]] was able to use his {{p|Pichu}} to destroy it and set Celebi free.

Lt. Surge is an extremely large and muscular man, and seems to be the show's tallest human character. He is arrogant, loud, and crude, and refers to all trainers as "baby" until they manage to defeat him. Lt. Surge generally looks down on unevolved Pokémon, preferring to evolve them as soon as possible.

His {{p|Raichu}} shares many of his personality traits, also appearing to be rather tough.

Lt. Surge's fatal flaw was that he evolved Pokémon too quickly without taking the time to teach them the proper attacks. Even though he managed to defeat [[Ash]] and his [[Ash's Pikachu|Pikachu]] once with pure power, Pikachu was able to use speed-altering moves like {{m|Agility}} to get the best of Raichu.

In the anime, the Vermilion Gym appears to be a warehouse decorated with stylized lighting bolts.

Lt. Surge's title is ''The Lightning American''. Electric-type Pokémon saved his life during a war. In the Army, Surge was a strict CO, and was rather cautious. He was a pilot as well, and used Electric-type Pokémon to power his planes. Also, Surge saved the life of one of the trainers in his gym back when they were in the Army.

A little paranoid, Lt. Surge installed a series of traps in the gym.

Lt. Surge takes a liking to trainers with a lot of guts.

Lt. Surge is one of the villains in [[Pokémon Special]], and is one of the leaders of [[Team Rocket]]. He used the [[S.S. Anne]] in Vermilion to transport captured Pokémon illegally. He tried to kill [[Red (Special)|Red]], but was bested after Red's {{p|Poliwhirl}} evolved into {{p|Poliwrath}}.

Lt. Surge captured {{p|Zapdos}} at the [[Power Plant]] under [[Giovanni]]'s orders. However, he, along with the rest of Team Rocket, was dispersed when the chimera made from the [[Legendary Pokémon]] was defeated by Red, [[Blue (Special)|Blue]], and [[Green (Special)|Green]] in [[Saffron City]].

Some time later, the [[Elite Four]] tried to destroy humanity. Team Rocket joined up with the trainers from [[Pallet Town]] to stop them. During the battle against the Elite Four on [[Cerise Island]], Lt. Surge was paired with Red according to [[Sabrina]]'s [[Spoons of Destiny]]. However, with Red absent due to injuries, Lt. Surge picked [[Bill]] as his partner instead.

In [[Johto]], Lt. Surge went to [[Mahogany Town]] to investigate the rise of Team Rocket under a different leader. He confronted the [[Mask of Ice]], but lost and barely managed to escape with his life.

The manga version of Lt. Surge prefers to travel by sea, as he is a sailor. He can also fly through the air by having three of his Magnetons create an energy platform for him to ride on.

In battle, Lt. Surge generally prefers to use his Electabuzz to zap anything that gets in his way. He also uses other Electric-type Pokémon to provide distractions with {{m|Selfdestruct}}.

I argue that the "kun" in Suikun is in fact the kanji for "river." It's ON-reading is also "kun."

Lance is a [[Pokémon Master]] famous in the [[Pokémon League]]. He is a member of an organization called the [[Pokémon G-Men]].

When [[Team Rocket]] started up an evil scheme at the [[Lake of Rage]], Lance showed up to investigate. He met [[Ash]], [[Misty]], and [[Brock]] there, saving the children from some formidable [[Rocket Grunts]]. Ash wanted to help Lance in his mission, but Lance said it was too dangerous. Knocking out a Rocket and taking his clothes, he was able to infiltrate their base. Team Rocket was trying to investigate the properties of a Red {{p|Gyarados}} so that they could learn how to force Pokémon to [[Evolution|evolve]]. Lance was able to destroy Team Rocket's machine and blow up their laboratory. Ash was able to calm the Red Gyarados at first, but it continued to go berserk. Finally, Lance caught it to keep it from destroying [[Mahogany Town]].

Lance later appeared again in [[Hoenn]], where he infiltrated [[Team Magma]] and helped stop the rampage of {{p|Kyogre}} and {{p|Groudon}}.

Lance is primarily a villain in [[Pokémon Special]]. As the leader of the Elite Four, he wishes to exterminate the human race, save for a few people who he deems to be kind enough to Pokémon.

Apparently also from [[Viridian City]], Lance was blessed with the powers of the [[Viridian Forest]] as [[Yellow (Special)|Yellow]] was. He has the power to telepathically communicate with Pokémon, as well as heal their wounds.

Lance also has the ability to control or brainwash any Dragon-type Pokémon, as well as most Pokémon similar to Dragons (such as Aerodactyl or Tyranitar).

Lance tried to summon {{p|Lugia}} on [[Cerise Island]] to help accomplish his goals, but Yellow's Pokémon were able to drive Lugia away. This interested Lance, as he wanted to find out who Lugia's real owner was. It wasn't often that he lost control of dragon-like Pokémon.

Lance disappeared for a while, investigating Lugia and working behind the scenes. He gave [[Silver (Special)|Silver]] advice on how to defeat Team Rocket in [[Johto]], as well as a Tyranitar. Working through Silver, Lance tried to help defeat the [[Mask of Ice]].

The only child of millionaires, James was forced to endure formal society. At a young age, he was forcefully engaged to a girl of whom he was terrified, [[Jessiebelle]], all because [[James's parents|his parents]] wanted to have a wealthy daughter-in-law. Thus, he ran away from home, leaving behind his beloved pet [[Growlie]]. He attempted to enroll in [[Pokémon Tech]], a trainer's school, but, along with his new friend [[Jessie]], flunked out. Then, with Jessie, he joined the [[Sunny Town]] bicycle gang, where he was popular for being the only gang member to have to use training wheels (nicknamed "Trainer Jim"). Eventually James, Jessie, and the bike gang went their separate ways.

Due to conflicts in canon between [[Kanto]] and [[Johto]] episodes and the special episode ''[[The Origin of Love and Truth]]'', what happened between James and Jessie after the bike gang is unknown. What ''is'' known, as shown in the special episode, is that they joined Team Rocket separately and were on initially unfriendly terms after being grouped with [[Meowth (Team Rocket)|Meowth]]. However, they quickly made up and the rest is history.

Since he is proficient in several activities, including [[Pokémon haiku]] and [[Pokéringer]], it is possible that he developed his skills during his temporary separation from Jessie, but this is not known for sure.

In the episode ''[[EP048|Holy Matrimony!]]'', James returned to his home as a result of a trap by his parents, who pretended to be dead. He was reunited with his old pet Growlie and managed to avoid marrying Jessiebelle. Growlie stayed behind when James returned to Jessie and Meowth.

James has a tendency to be swindled by a [[Magikarp seller]], who has on many occasions tricked him into buying a Magikarp or other useless Pokémon for large sums of money.

James also has a tendacy to cross-dress, but has not done it in Hoenn since ''[[Pros and Con Artists]]''. He does however dress up like famous celebrities now too, such as [[Professor Oak]], [[Juan]], and [[Norman]].

While James's role in the Pokémon anime has not yet ended, in [[Toshihiro Ono|Toshihiro Ono's]] manga, ''[[The Electric Tale of Pikachu]]'', he ended up married to Jessie, about to start a family.
