The site opened to the public on July 15, 2003, although Water Pokémon Master had been working on it privately since 1999. Since then, it has become one of the most popular Pokémon fan sites on the internet.

Although the site focuses on several aspects of the fandom, its primary focus is the [[Pokémon Trading Card Game]]. The site features scans of Pokémon cards, as well as guides on how to play the game.

In 2008, the web site was able to have an interview with [[Masamitsu Hidaka]], a director and storyboard artist for the {{pkmn|anime}}. In it, he revealed much previously unknown information about the series.

In 2009, the site was able to go to the early screening of ''[[M12|Arceus and the Jewel of Life]]'' in Japan, even though Water Pokémon Master was not picked for the special rally from [[CoroCoro]].

In September 2010, the site's forums inducted a new rule stating that users must use proper grammar and spelling, stating that they aren't a chat room.

Upon the release of [[Pokémon Black and White]], PokéBeach was the first of two sites to receive a cease and desist order from Nintendo for posting images of Pokémon Black and White. The site then temporarily changed all pictures from the games to pictures of [[Ditto]] and changed their name to PokerBeach as a joke to protest Nintendo's actions. It has since gone back to using the images and using the name PokéBeach.

The set brings several new mechanics and features to the game.

== Information ==
*Based on {{game|HeartGold and SoulSilver|s}}, this set predominantly includes [[Generation II]] Pokémon and features from the re-envisioned [[Johto]] region.
*For only the second time in the TCG, the card layout was redesigned mid-generation (the first was the transition from Neo to e-Card during Generation II). Changes include:
**The card border, as well as some of the graphics on the card have a gold and silver tinge, a direct reference to the games.
**The evolution box graphic returns to the upper left corner of the card next to the card name, as it was on cards released before the EX era. The stage name graphic remains on the top of the illustration window, albeit shifted slightly to the left. Basic Pokémon cards also have a small graphic added where the evolution box is on evolved Pokémon.
**The illustrator credit graphic is shorter in length, allowing more space for the Pokédex entry text, which has also been moved further down.
**As with the mid-Generation II redesign, levels are no longer shown.
**Another graphic has been added in the top right corner of the card, making the HP and card type more prominent.
*{{TCG|Pokémon LV.X}} are no longer present, now replaced by {{TCG|Pokémon Prime}}. Reflecting the namesake of the new TCG era, {{TCG|Pokémon LEGEND}} were another type of powerful Pokémon introduced. However, unlike the next set, only one Pokémon is present as opposed to two.
*{{TCG|Trainer card}}s are now reclassified as Goods cards in Japan, resulting in three separate classes of what used to be Trainer cards. Water Pokemon Master:

Wizards of the Coast, or 'WOTC' for short, was asked to translate and distribute Pokemon trading cards in America, starting in 1998. Their first set was Base Set (1998), which included many of the original 150 Pokemon, such as Charizard, Blastoise, and Venusaur. In mid-2003, their license to run the Pokemon TCG was cancelled by Nintendo, which decided that it would run the card game. At first, many people were shocked, but in the end, many realized that the switch to Nintendo was for the best. Wizards had been abusing the Pokemon TCG, and it was at an extremely low point. WOTC then took Nintendo to court where they accussed them of stealing insider secrets, but at a later time, both parties decicided to settle their differences outside of court.

Under WOTC, the following sets were released:
Base Set,
Jungle,
Fossil,
Base Set 2,
Team Rocket,
Gym Heroes,
Gym Challenge,
Neo Genesis,
Neo Discovery,
Neo Revelation,
Neo Destiny,
Legendary Collection,
Expedition,
Aquapolis,
Skyridge

A set to follow Skyridge, titled "Jamboree," was in the works of being released by WOTC, but never had the oppurtunity to be due to the cancellation of Wizards' license. Other consequences of the cancellation of the WOTC license was that there was only one print run of Skyridge, causing the price of the set to sky rocket.
