Lysandre is a tall, well-built man with light skin and blue eyes. He has [[#Hair|long spiky orange hair]] and a cbeard.

He wears a red shirt with a cravat beneath his black jacket, which has a white fur collar. The jacket has a single-button cuffs, red side stripes and front flap pockets with red contrast trim. His black pants also have red side stripes and back welt pockets with red contrast trim. He wears black shoes and black fingerless gloves on his hands. On his left hand, he wears a [[Key Stone#Gallery|Mega Ring]] with the Team Flare insignia engraved on its sides, which he wears on his middle finger.

In the [[Team Flare Secret HQ]], Lysandre appears with a cybernetic apparatus called the '''Lysandre Machine'''. The apparatus consists of a bronze, beetle-like gauntlet worn on his right arm, a gray mechanical backpack and three flying insect-like devices connected to the backpack by cables. He also wears an orange visor similar to those worn by Team Flare scientists.

After Lysandre survived the activation of the [[ultimate weapon]] in X and Y, he reappeared five years later. Due to his close exposure to the ultimate weapon, his lifespan was extended by three thousand years, similar to [[AZ]]'s. His left eye was seemingly blinded, taking on an unnatural glow, which he only opened during battle. His hair turned white and became shorter, and his beard is white with orange streaks, reminiscent of his original hair color.

His outfit appears worn. He wears a black hooded jacket with a fur collar. On the jacket's elbows are red stitched patches, with the right patch shaped like a Y. Beneath the jacket, he wears a gray shirt with red buttons and under that, a red hoodie whose hood is stitched down the middle. His pants are gray with red stitched patches on the knees, with the left patch shaped like an X. He also wears red socks and black shoes. Lysandre still keeps his Mega Ring with him however, he no longer wears it on his hand.

The player first meets Lysandre in [[Professor Sycamore]]'s {{kal|Pokémon Research Lab|laboratory}} in [[Lumiose City]] seeing potential in them, and then later in [[Café Soleil]], where he is seen talking to [[Diantha]] about her acting career. He discusses with her about the idea of eternal beauty, but she quickly dismisses the idea, claiming that she does not look for such a thing, much to Lysandre's annoyance. After this, he spots the player, where he speaks about his dream of a beautiful world.

Following this, Lysandre doesn't reappear until much later, after the player has defeated [[Clemont]] for their fifth Badge. This time, he meets the player and Professor Sycamore at [[Lysandre Café]] and speaks about the [[AZ|king of Kalos]] who nearly vaporized all life in the region 3,000 years ago by usage of a weapon. He also speaks about {{p|Xerneas}}'s{{sup/6|X}}/{{p|Yveltal}}'s{{sup/6|Y}} role in the creation of the [[ultimate weapon]], as well as their role in the creation of life and destruction as a whole. After this, Lysandre will regularly communicate with the player through the [[Holo Caster]], monitoring their progress, and constantly showing his vision for a beautiful world as well as asking them to reconsider his proposal and join him on his cause.

Lysandre then appears after the player has received their seventh Badge. At this point, it is revealed through his Holo Caster message that he is the leader of [[Team Flare]], and that he plans to use the weapon which he spoke about earlier in order to eliminate anyone not part of Team Flare, surprising both the player and their neighbor. The player later confronts Lysandre in person at the [[Lysandre Labs]] beneath his café. He wishes to test the player's resolve, and is then battled and defeated. Admiring the player's resolve and strength, he instructs them that if they wish to stop him, he must get the [[Elevator Key]] from one of Team Flare's four scientists the player already met, while he retreats underground.

After the player obtains the Elevator Key and descends further into the lab, they meet with Lysandre who is speaking with a tall man behind bars known as AZ. Lysandre introduces AZ as someone who "shares the name of the previous King of Kalos", and the carrier the key of the ultimate weapon. After AZ tells the player the tragedy left by the ultimate weapon and asks them to stop the device from being used, Lysandre invites the player deeper underground if they wish to stop him. The player descends and meets Lysandre talking with [[Xerosic]]. Lysandre then tells the player to battle Xerosic, and if they are successful against the scientist, then they will stop their scheme. After the player defeats Xerosic, he has them push one of two buttons, one of which activates the weapon. However, pushing the correct one unfortunately does not stop Xerosic from unleashing the weapon on Kalos. If the player chooses the blue button, he will activate the weapon by remote control, otherwise the player activates the weapon.

Lysandre is later found again at the [[Team Flare Secret HQ]] at the site of the ultimate weapon in [[Geosenge Town]], where the player's rival questions him about his extreme measures to fix the world. He replies that those measures are the only possible solution because he thinks humans are inherently evil and greedy. He uses the analogy of them competing over their [[Mega Ring]] as an example that when something cannot be shared, people will fight for it, and some will be forced to live without it. As such, more tragedies are likely to happen, and, the only solution is to reduce the human population. When further questioned about Pokémon, he tearfully claims that Pokémon, while magnificent beings, are condemned to be used by humans as tools for war and theft. Therefore, he believes that Pokémon, for the greater good, are best annihilated. He is battled again, as he simply seeks to stall for time against the player. The player defeats Lysandre once again, and he shows further admiration for the player's strength. He then challenges the player to travel deeper into the Team Flare Secret HQ to stop the weapon, despite his belief that it is already too late, but multiple members of Team Flare are waiting in ambush on the lower floors. After defeating them, the player reaches Xerneas{{sup/6|X}}/Yveltal{{sup/6|Y}}. The [[Legendary Pokémon]] is then battled and caught by the player, seemingly disabling the weapon. Lysandre returns wearing the Lysandre Machine, which is intended to drain Xerneas's{{sup/6|X}}/Yveltal's{{sup/6|Y}} energy back into the ultimate weapon, and he declares that he will take the Legendary Pokémon back and complete his plan. Now wielding a Mega Ring of his own, he engages the player in a final battle.

After being defeated for the third and final time, Lysandre expresses his disgust towards the fact that his beautiful world will never be a reality. The player and their friends attempt to reason with him, saying that if people cooperate together, a better world is possible, and they use the Mega Evolution achieved by him as proof of the bond he has with his Pokémon. He, however, rejects the idea as mere naivety and then attempts to 'force immortality on the player, their friends, and himself'{{sup/6|X}}/'kill everyone in the building'{{sup/6|Y}} and fires the ultimate weapon using what little power still remains. Hearing this, the player and their friends quickly leave, after which the blast from the weapon destroys the building and seemingly buries Lysandre and the HQ under rubble, putting an end to Team Flare's threat.

Later on in the game, an NPC in [[Snowbelle City]] who is an old friend of Lysandre mentions that Lysandre had noble intentions and did his best to help people in need, but was eventually convinced of humanity's stupidity, along with his own limitations which resulted in him becoming a misanthrope.

An [[Pokémon multiverse|alternate universe]] version of Lysandre appears as a member of [[Team Rainbow Rocket]] and one of the second pair of bosses the player must face, along with [[Cyrus]]. Like the other {{cat|villainous team leaders}} in Team Rainbow Rocket, this Lysandre was summoned from a world where his plans succeeded. However, as he explains to the player, a bright light consumed him when he fired the [[ultimate weapon]] and was transported to the game's world. He has his {{tc|Team Rainbow Rocket Grunt}}s set up devices with red and blue buttons in his office within [[Team Rocket's Castle]]. Then, he subjects the player to the same choice the player in Kalos was subjected to, claiming that one button will activate the ultimate weapon and the other will open the path to [[Giovanni]]. However, no matter which button the player chooses, it will be the one that activates the weapon. Lysandre then tells the player that pushing the opposite button will prevent it from firing. However, in order to buy time for the weapon to fire, Lysandre battles the player, using Xerneas{{sup/7|US}}/Yveltal{{sup/7|UM}} as part of his team. When he is defeated, he allows the player to press the other button, ostensibly shutting down the ultimate weapon, as well as unlocking one of the two seals needed to reach Giovanni. Lysandre then wonders if things would have been different in his world if he had met a Trainer like the player. He then rejects that line of thought, resolving that he must bring about his beautiful world. He is later sent back to his own world by [[Colress]] off-screen.

As revealed in {{g|Legends: Z-A}}, Lysandre survived his supposed demise in [[Pokémon X and Y]] thanks to {{ga|Zygarde}}, but lost much of his memory in the process. Due to using the ultimate weapon, his body was altered in a similar way to AZ's, cursing him to live for three thousand years. As Zygarde had exhausted its power at the time from defending people and Pokémon from the ultimate weapon's blast, it tasked Lysandre to help it recover its strength in preparation for a [[Ange|future threat]] to Kalos.

Lysandre first meets the player after their first battle with Zygarde outside [[Hotel Z]], under the pseudonym "'''L'''", warning them about the coming crisis in Lumiose City and telling them that they must become a Trainer worthy of Zygarde's trust in order to stop it. He also appears before the player after their battles against the [[Rogue Mega Evolution|Rogue Mega-Evolved]] {{p|Banette}} and {{p|Barbaracle}}, mentioning how [[Emma]] is looking for him and hints at the connection between the Rogue Mega Evolutions and [[Prism Tower]]. L appears alongside Zygarde once more when the player is due to battle [[Jacinthe]] at her personal tournament at [[Hotel Richissime]], where the tournament participants recognize him as Lysandre. L challenges the player to test their strength against Zygarde once more and warns the people of Lumiose of the coming threat. After the player has defeated Zygarde again, L departs to continue collecting more of Zygarde's [[Zygarde Cell|Cells]]. When the player explores the abandoned Lysandre Labs, L shows himself once again, admitting that some of his memories have returned and revealing that five years earlier, as Team Flare was preparing to execute his agenda, he initially envisioned using both [[Ange]], a device hidden within Prism Tower, and the ultimate weapon at the same time. However, because AZ's missing {{TP|AZ|Floette}} was required to activate Ange, Lysandre could not do so, and he was forced to settle for using only the ultimate weapon. During the main game climax, the Zygarde Cells gathered by L allow Zygarde to assume its {{form|Zygarde|Complete Forme}} and combat the {{DL|Ange|Hyperrogue Ange Floette}} alongside the player.

After the player's first reward match in the Infinite [[Z-A Royale]], L comes to Hotel Z to speak with them about AZ, telling them about how the two had talked about the agony of being unable to die and about AZ's good and heinous deeds, including Ange. L surmises that Ange's influence resulted in more [[wild Pokémon]] gathering throughout Lumiose, wondering if it is right that people and Pokémon are kept at arm's length of each other with the city's holo-tech barriers. He wonders if people will find another way, stating that he looks forward to seeing what the people of Lumiose choose. L then explains that more of his memory returned following his conversation with the player in Lysandre Labs, having recalled the existence of Xerneas and Yveltal. He also informs them that since Ange was destroyed, Zygarde has not shown itself, likely due to it having exhausted its power and retreated somewhere to quietly recover. L requests the player to find Xerneas and Yveltal.

After the player has caught Xerneas and Yveltal, L appears before the player outside Hotel Z. He explains that he knows that he tried to give too much to the world in the past, and because his good deeds saw no reward, he wallowed in despair and resentment and decided to take everything for himself instead. He explains how Zygarde seeks to correct excess and restore balance to the world, believing that to be the reason Zygarde rescued him. L then challenges the player to a battle and is defeated. Reflecting on his mistakes, L expresses regret over having fired the ultimate weapon and not trying to understand in the group of children who had defied him five years earlier. He then directs the player to the ruins of Prism Tower in [[Wild Zone 20]] so that they can battle and catch Zygarde. Once the player has succeeded in this, L entrusts Zygarde to the player and gives them the [[Zygarde Cube]] to change its {{form|Zygarde|form}}. Declaring that he still wishes to create a more beautiful world, L nonetheless admits that his methods were flawed, and thus he sets off with the resolve to find a better way to realize his dreams during the three thousand years of living that he now has ahead of him, bidding farewell to the player.

It was revealed that in the past, he defeated Alain in a battle over an [[Ampharosite]], then took Alain to [[Lysandre Labs]] and recruited him to work in a project to harness the energy of Mega Evolution for peaceful purposes. Lysandre was also the one who awarded Alain his Mega Ring and Charizardite X, though he asked Alain not to tell Professor Sycamore of the research, fearing that people with bad intentions would bring harm to him in order to obtain it. Later, he traveled with Alain, [[Mairin]], and Steven to a ruin, where they uncovered an ancient [[Giant Rock]]. However, his research on the Giant Rock accidentally summoned {{DL|Super-ancient Pokémon (XY series)|Rayquaza}}, who destroyed the area. After the encounter with Rayquaza, Lysandre discovered a similar energy reading to the Giant Rock near [[Rustboro City]], and asked Alain to go there and investigate. He also covertly ordered Alain to keep a close eye on Steven, for the [[Hoenn League]] {{pkmn|Champion}} had precious information on Mega Evolution.

In ''[[XY106|A Meeting of Two Journeys!]]'', Lysandre was contacted by Alain via the Holo Caster, who wanted to know if Mairin's Chespie's condition had improved or not. Later, he reappeared in [[XY107|the next episode]], overseeing the operation to capture [[Z2]] alongside Xerosic. At the end of the episode, he received Z2.

Lysandre reappeared in ''[[XY118|Championing a Research Battle!]]'' and ''[[XY119|A Full-Strength Battle Surprise!]]'', where he received mission reports from Xerosic.

In ''[[XY129|Kalos League Passion with a Certain Flare!]]'', Lysandre was talking to a man inside a building at the [[Lumiose Conference]]. He soon got a call on a Holo Caster that an {{tc|Team Flare Admin|Admin}} was holding, from Xerosic, who was in the front seat of a truck that was just outside the [[Lumiose Gym]]. Later on at night, he met {{Ash}} for the first time and discussed the capability of [[Ash's Greninja]] to take on its different form in battle. After his conversation with him, he was shown with an annoyed expression, before turning towards the Lumiose Gym and smirked. Lysandre later talked to Mairin after she ran up to him and he put on a happy expression. The next day, Lysandre was seated in a private viewing box inside the Lumiose Conference's stadium with a glass window, along with Mairin and the same Admin, and they all watched as Ash and Alain each walked towards their respective sides of the battlefield in the Lumiose Conference's stadium, for the final round of the Conference.

In ''[[XY130|Finals Not for the Faint-Hearted!]]'' and ''[[XY131|Down to the Fiery Finish!]]'', Lysandre watched Ash and Alain's battle in the finals of the Lumiose Conference. Towards the end of the latter episode, his true egotistical, narcissistic nature is revealed as he uses the power of Z2 to bring the whole of Kalos into his control, taking over Lumiose City and subsequently the Lumiose Conference, which had just been concluded.

In ''[[XY132|A Towering Takeover!]]'', Lysandre revealed himself as the leader of Team Flare to a captured Ash. He also televised a message to the citizens of Kalos about his plan for creating a new, beautiful world for Team Flare.

In ''Coming Apart at the Dreams!'', Lysandre explained his motivations and attempted to control Ash and Greninja the same way he did with Zygarde, so that Ash could become the guide of the new world. Ash, however, defied Lysandre and used the [[Bond Phenomenon]] to break free. Following this turn of events, Lysandre equipped his machine and started a fight with Ash and the defecting Alain using his Pyroar and his Shiny Mega Gyarados. Pyroar was defeated through a joint attack by {{AP|Noivern}}, {{AP|Hawlucha}}, and {{AP|Pikachu}}.

In ''[[XY134|The Right Hero for the Right Job!]]'', Lysandre defeated the majority of Ash's team. He was surprised when Malva appeared to help Alain and Ash, but nonetheless remained confident even after Clemont and Bonnie freed the two Zygarde under his control.

In ''[[XY135|Rocking Kalos Defenses!]]'', Lysandre was finally beaten by Ash and Alain. Refusing to surrender, Lysandre seemingly killed himself by jumping off the tower. It was afterwards revealed that Lysandre had planned for the Giant Rock to transform into a copy of Zygarde, which would engulf the [[Anistar City]] Sundial and release enough energy to wipe out all life on the planet.

He made one final appearance in ''[[XY136|Forming a More Perfect Union!]]''. After the Giant Rock was temporarily stopped by Ash, Alain, Steven, Malva, [[Diantha]], and all of the Kalos [[Gym Leader]]s and [[Chespie]] was freed from it's control, Lysandre appears and revives the Giant Rock himself using a control device, announcing he still intends to destroy the world even if it means he has to die too. He lost control of the Rock after the device was destroyed by Ash and Alain, and was defeated entirely by Squishy and Z2 after they transformed into Zygarde Complete Forme and destroyed the Giant Rock. The explosion from Zygarde's {{m|Core Enforcer}} engulfs Lysandre, leaving his final fate unclear.

To Lysandre's frustration, the combined efforts of X and his friends successfully weakened the ultimate weapon, preventing it from taking any innocent lives. AZ stayed behind to allow Xerneas to escape back to the surface with X and the others. When Malva attempted to confront X's group with Yveltal, Lysandre ordered a ceasefire due to it and Xerneas being evenly matched. Xerneas confirmed this and retreated, taking X and the others with it.

In ''[[PS582|Pinsir Glares]]'', Team Flare was revealed to have blamed the destruction caused by the ultimate weapon on X's friends and the Gym Leaders. They moved operations to the [[Pokémon Village]] to keep a low profile. When Xerosic later discovered the stones lining {{rt|10|Kalos}} are an older form of the absorber, Team Flare began using them to drain the life energy of the Pokémon living at the village. These actions earned Team Flare the anger of {{adv|Mewtwo}}, who protected the Pokémon Village. In ''[[PS590|Yveltal Steals]]'', X and {{adv|Blue}} found Lysandre in battle with Mewtwo at the village. While Blaine and Mewtwo kept Zygarde still, X defeated Essentia, uncovering her true identity as his friend Emma. With some words of encouragement from X and [[Cassius]], Emma betrayed Lysandre, but was attacked by his Gyarados before she could command Zygarde. Lysandre took Zygarde's [[Poké Ball]], only for {{adv|Y}} to arrive and take his Mega Ring. In ''[[PS593|Xerneas Gives]]'', Lysandre used Zygarde to battle X's Mega-Evolved team. Once they fully reverted, X had his team launch one final attack, fully separating Zygarde. Malva attempted to save Lysandre from falling, only for both to land onto the rubble below. Heavily injured, Lysandre weakly asked Malva why the ultimate weapon had not yet been fired. Afterward, Blaine revealed Lysandre was alive, but had sustained severe injuries to his spinal cord.

Chespie appeared in the [[Mega Evolution Specials]] of {{aniseries|XY}}. It first appeared in ''[[XYS01|Mega Evolution Special I]]'' where it along with [[Mairin]] watched the {{pkmn|battle}} between [[Alain]] and [[Astrid]]. After the battle, Chespie and Mairin went up to Alain when Mairin wanted to discuss to Alain about the different forms of {{TP|Alain|Charizard}} and {{p|Absol}}. Chespie and Mairin followed Alain around while he battled various [[Mega Evolution|Mega Evolved]] Pokémon. Later, when Mairin encountered a [[List of Pokémon with form differences#Flabébé, Floette, and Florges|Yellow Flower]] {{p|Flabébé}}, she had her Chespie battle her in order for Mairin to catch her. Chespie had trouble in the beginning as Flabébé was very fast. After Alain gave Mairin advice, Mairin had her Chespie use {{m|Toxic}} which weakened Flabébé enough and Mairin was able to catch her.

In ''[[XYS02|Mega Evolution Special II]]'', Chespie accompanied Mairin in Hoenn.

In ''[[XYS03|Mega Evolution Special III]]'', Chespie accompanied Mairin while she sneaked aboard a helicopter as [[Alain]] does not want her from coming. It protected Mairin from ice shards caused by the rampage of [[Primal Reversion|Primal]] {{DL|Super-ancient Pokémon (XY series)|Groudon}} and Primal {{DL|Super-ancient Pokémon (XY series)|Kyogre}} who was trying to get a knocked out Alain to safety.

In ''[[XYS04|Mega Evolution Special IV]]'', Chespie accompanied Mairin to [[Lysandre Labs]]. After Alain refused to allow Mairin to travel with him, she asked Chespie to give her a moment alone. This resulted in Chespie following two scientists to a room where it found a {{p|Zygarde}} Core ([[Squishy]]) and some cells being subjected to some sort of evidently painful experiment. Chespie made its first animated series appearance alongside Mairin in ''[[XY106|A Meeting of Two Journeys!]]'', at Lysandre Labs. Alain called [[Lysandre]] for an update on the situation, only to be informed that nothing had changed at the time.

It appeared again in ''[[XY116|The Synchronicity Test!]]'', where Mairin sent Alain a video of her and Chespie. Though Chespie had shown no signs of improvement, she assured Alain that the two of them were fine, and told him to do his best. Lysandre claimed that Alain could revive Chespie by collecting [[Mega Evolution]] energy. In truth, Lysandre had no intention of helping the Spiny Nut Pokémon; the energy was actually to power a machine to influence the mind of Zygarde. After Lysandre's true colors were exposed, Mairin set out to rescue Chespie from Lysandre Labs, with the help of {{an|Serena}} and {{an|Professor Sycamore}}. Chespie was eventually rescued in ''[[XY134|The Right Hero for the Right Job!]]''. Chespie tends to save its Trainer from trouble and helps her when she falls over. Chespie is also shown to be friendly with other Pokémon such as when it fist bumped [[Steven's Metagross]] after its battle. It shares some characteristics with [[Clemont's Chespin]], in the sense that it can act goofy and be clumsy, similar to its Trainer. However, it has not been seen as gluttonous or mischievous. Similarly to Mairin, Chespie is a curious Pokémon with a strong sense of justice. It has been shown on several occasions to care deeply for its Trainer, using {{m|Vine Whip}} to prevent her from falling down and protecting her from harm.

In {{game3|Ruby and Sapphire|Pokémon Ruby|s}} and {{pkmn|Omega Ruby and Alpha Sapphire|Omega Ruby}}, he first appears in an attempt to steal the [[Devon Parts|Devon Goods]]{{sup/3|R}}/[[Devon Parts]]{{sup/6|OR}} from [[Captain Stern]] at the [[Oceanic Museum]] in Slateport City. Later, Team Magma members steal a [[Meteorite]] from [[Professor Cozmo]] in [[Meteor Falls]], and use it in an attempt to erupt [[Mt. Chimney]]{{sup/3|R}}/to fashion an artificial [[Mega Stone]] for {{p|Groudon}}{{sup/6|OR}}. Maxie finally awakens Groudon using the colored Orb stolen from Mt. Pyre, although he quickly loses the control over the Legendary Pokémon. Later, Team Magma raids the [[Mossdeep Space Center]], trying to use the rocket fuel to make Mt. Chimney erupt. The protagonist and {{Steven}} appear just in time to stop him and [[Tabitha]] from achieving this. When defeated a third time, Maxie sees the error of his ways, later disbanding Team Magma and attempting to stop Groudon and Kyogre's fight.

In Ruby and Emerald, after Groudon is calmed, he returns the Blue Orb to Mt. Chimney, disbands Team Magma, and is never seen again. In Omega Ruby, the energy amassed in the Cave's jewels emit a green beam skyward after Primal Groudon is defeated, which casts an emerald spectrum of falling lights across the region. Maxie, profoundly affected by the experience, is at first hesitant to accept [[Archie]]'s offer to start over, believing himself unworthy of redemption. However, Tabitha encourages him to at least try, offering his continued loyalty to him from that point onward. Softly thanking his Admin, Maxie willingly relinquishes the Red Orb to the player and departs with Archie to begin their mutual reformation.

During the [[Delta Episode]], Maxie is confronted in the Magma Hideout by one of his former grunts, [[Zinnia]], who is stealing Key Stones in order to summon and Mega Evolve {{p|Rayquaza}}. When his Key Stone is stolen, he entrusts the player with his Cameruptite to stop Zinnia's apparent rampage. When the world is spared from the meteor, Maxie summons [[Courtney]] to his quarters, where she tearfully apologizes for her recklessness. Shocked by the sight of his normally stoic Admin crying, Maxie agrees to forgive her on the condition that she forgives his actions and conduct, recognizing that this and the failure of their plans drove her into despair. He explains his intent to start Team Magma over, having learned the importance of understanding and working with even those he disagrees with, to which she accepts. He welcomes the player to visit them in their hideout anytime, taking on the role of a friend to them. This friendship even extends to being available to partner with them in the [[Battle Maison]]'s Multi Battle mode.

In Alpha Sapphire, Maxie and his Admins make a brief reappearance at the [[Battle Resort]] when the player first visits the location with [[Wally]] after the Delta Episode. During the encounter, Maxie ponders the possibility of him having been the villain the player would've had to stop instead of Archie, alluding to his role in Omega Ruby. However, he disregards such thoughts as mere fantasy, and has Courtney hand the player a [[Cameruptite]] before leaving.

An [[Pokémon multiverse|alternate universe]] version of Maxie, in his [[Generation III]] design, appears as a member of [[Team Rainbow Rocket]] in {{g|Ultra Sun and Ultra Moon}}. He is one of the first two bosses the player must face, along with Archie. When the player reaches him in [[Team Rocket's Castle]], he reveals that, in the world he came from, he succeeded in enacting his plans to expand the planet's landmass, only to be dropped into a great fissure that opened up beneath him. Maxie first appeared in the {{aniseries|RS}} episode ''[[AG097|Gaining Groudon]]''. His goal was to expand the land of [[Hoenn]], believing that if so, the land would be peaceful. After Team Magma captured {{Ash}} and {{ashfr}} aboard their mobile sea base, they brought them to Maxie. He explained to the group his goals and how Team Magma was going to accomplish them through {{DL|Kyogre and Groudon (Ruby and Sapphire series)|Groudon}}. In the process, he revealed that Team Magma has possession over a [[Blue Orb]], an item capable of controlling Groudon, as well as {{DL|Kyogre and Groudon (Ruby and Sapphire series)|Kyogre}}. Meanwhile, Shelly, who was working undercover as a {{tc|Team Magma Grunt}}, released Kyogre from its captivity, thus sending it on a rampage that causes Maxie to lose the Blue Orb to {{AP|Pikachu}}, who unwittingly absorbed it. After Team Magma's base was destroyed by Kyogre, Maxie met up with [[Archie]] on [[Monsu Island]] and negotiated a trade: Team Aqua will release two Team Magma Grunts in exchange for the Blue Orb. Archie then bonded with the Red Orb, but he was maddened by its effects and announced his intent to engulf the entire island in the ocean, risking the lives of everyone on it, including his own men. Maxie, acting out of seemingly genuine concern, tried to point this out to Archie, but he refused to listen. Later, as Groudon and Kyogre prepared to battle, Maxie listened to [[Lance]]'s speech about how such a conflict posed a threat to the entire world. Eventually, the fight between Kyogre and Groudon was put to an end through the efforts of Ash, his friends, and Lance. Afterwards, Maxie realized the errors of his ways and finally changed his beliefs, now believing that the land of Hoenn is supposed to be kept as is. Maxie is one of the two main antagonists of this chapter. He leads Team Magma in their quest to awaken {{DL|Super-ancient Pokémon (Adventures)|Groudon}} to expand the land. Team Magma clashes with Team Aqua, who aim to awaken {{DL|Super-ancient Pokémon (Adventures)|Kyogre}} to expand the sea.

Maxie debuts in ''[[PS200|Tripped Up by Torkoal]]'', where he meets with Tabitha, Courtney, and [[Blaise]] after the successful obtaining of the [[Scanner]]. When Blaise reveals that the Submarine Explorer 1 is almost complete, Maxie sends the three to Slateport City to steal it.

After Team Aqua manages to successfully stop the volcanic activity of Mt. Chimney, Maxie attacks Archie. Maxie confronts Archie's manipulation of [[TV Mauville|Hoenn TV]] to create anti-Team Magma propaganda and challenges him to a battle. Archie agrees, but the battle ends in a tie despite Archie's type advantage. The two leaders stop fighting after realizing that neither team will accomplish their goals when each has an important piece required to awaken their respective super-ancient Pokémon rests. They decide that the best option is a temporary truce so that both teams will head to the Seafloor Cavern together. When Team Magma and Aqua meet, they fit the Submarine Explorer 1 with its heart component and head underwater.

Upon arriving, the teams end their truce and proceed to head their separate ways. Archie manages to awaken Kyogre first, giving the advantage to Team Aqua. Despite this, Maxie uses the Red and Blue Orbs Blaise obtained from Mt. Pyre to control both super-ancient Pokémon to give Groudon an advantage over Kyogre. The strain of using both Orbs exhausts Maxie, so he hands the Blue Orb to Tabitha so he can control Kyogre. Finding Kyogre's behavior suspicious, sends {{adv|Amber}} to take the Blue Orb from Tabitha. With the Blue Orb now in his possession, Archie begins to use it to control Kyogre.

The power of the Red and Blue Orbs proves to be too much for Maxie and Archie, who are later possessed by Groudon and Kyogre instead. The two are confronted by {{adv|Ruby}} and {{adv|Sapphire}}, who had arrived to defeat the two villains. Ruby and Sapphire begin battling Maxie and Archie, but note their behavior to be strange. Despite this, Ruby and Sapphire manage to stop Maxie and Archie's movements, leaving them enough time to remove the Orbs from their hands. When Ruby attempts to remove the Orbs from Archie and Maxie, he notices that the Orbs are now stuck to the leaders' hands. The Orbs recede into Maxie and Archie's bodies, fully putting them under the control of Kyogre and Groudon. With their new power, Maxie and Archie take Ruby, Sapphire, and all the Team Aqua and Magma Grunts back to the surface.

They fly to Sootopolis City, where Groudon and Kyogre had gone to finish their battle. The two leaders begin fighting together their respective super-ancient Pokémon. Maxie and Archie are finally defeated when Ruby and Sapphire use a piece of the Grand Meteor combined with their Pokémon's attacks to force the Red and Blue Orbs out of Maxie and Archie's bodies. The plan works, but it causes the Orbs to move to Ruby and Sapphire's bodies and creates an explosion that sends them flying.

Sometime later, Ruby returns and teams up with Courtney to stop Kyogre and Groudon once and for all. Their plan fails, and a hidden Maxie and Archie kills Courtney by dragging her into a collapsing Cave of Origin. After Groudon and Kyogre are successfully defeated with the assistance of {{DL|Super-ancient Pokémon (Adventures)|Rayquaza}} and [[Norman]], Maxie and Archie reveal themselves and attempt to kill Ruby to take back the Orbs and awaken Groudon and Kyogre again. They are approached by the Champion [[Wallace]], who attacks the two leaders to rescue Ruby. Wallace is forced to give up when Maxie and Archie reveal they are keeping [[Winona]] hostage, leaving him open to be attacked and defeated.

Victorious, Maxie and Archie gloat over the heroes' defeat only to be interrupted by the appearance of Ruby's {{p|Feebas}}, [[Feefee]]. Feefee attempts to stop Maxie and Archie, but is easily swatted away. Maxie and Archie begin beating Feefee and insult her ragged appearance. Seeing this angers Ruby, who states that Feefee possesses beauty on the inside even if her outside is ugly. This change in hear allows Feefee to evolve into a {{p|Milotic}}. Ruby and Feefee team up with Sapphire to battle and finally defeat Maxie and Archie's Pokémon. Maxie and Archie still refuse to give up and escape with the Orbs in Wallace's aircar. By powering up their {{p|Plusle}} and {{p|Minun}} with the New Mauville generator, Ruby and Sapphire finish Maxie and Archie off by trapping them in a dome of electricity.

It is revealed that Maxie and Archie were rescued from the electrical sphere by [[Sird]]. Sird reveals that Maxie and Archie's bodies are breaking down due to the effect of letting Kyogre and Groudon possess them. She offers a suit of armor to one of the villains that can slow down the process of their decaying, but only to whomever defeats the other in battle. Archie manages to defeat Maxie and wins the armor, thus becoming the armored man, [[Guile Hideout]].

They attack Bill and steal the shards from him, which have now regenerated back into their forms as Orbs. They steal Bill's boat and use it to travel back to the Hoenn region. Upon arriving, Maxie and Archie are approached by {{adv|Red}} and {{adv|Green}}, two Kanto Pokédex holders that are friends with Bill. Red and Green attack Maxie and Archie to avenge their injured friend and retrieve the stolen Orbs. To combat their opponents, Maxie and Archie reveal they have learned to use Mega Evolution and use it to face the two Pokédex holders, who counter with their own Mega-Evolved Pokémon.

The battle is interrupted by Blaise and {{adv|Amber}}. Although Blaise finds the new appearance of their leaders suspicious, Amber reveals that they summoned Groudon and Kyogre from their resting places with the power of {{p|Hoopa}}. Immediately after, Groudon and Kyogre appear, having followed the presence of the Orbs. Maxie and Archie use the Orbs to revert Groudon and Kyogre into their Primal forms, greatly increasing their power to the point where they easily defeat Red and Green. Groudon and Kyogre's rampage is interrupted by Ruby and {{adv|Emerald}}, who attempt to fight the super-ancient Pokémon but are unable to damage them. Maxie and Archie use Groudon and Kyogre to easily blast Ruby and Emerald out of the sky, easily defeating them. With their opponents on the ground, Maxie and Archie gloat over their victory and reveal that their return is all for the sake of saving the planet from the [[Grand Meteor Delta|meteoroid]] threatening to destroy it.

Later, at the [[Meteor Village]], Maxie trains alongside Archie in order to teach Groudon {{m|Precipice Blades}}. They were given a training space by the village [[Elder (Meteor Village)|Elder]], who agreed to help in their attempt to stop the meteoroid. After a day, Maxie and Archie finish their training and exit their training space. Just as they do so, Rayquaza sees Groudon and Kyogre through Hoopa's ring and attempts to attack by flying towards the ring. The experience scares Hoopa, causing it to accidentally send Rayquaza to another ring connecting the village to {{rt|120|Hoenn}}. Maxie and Archie chase after Rayquaza and arrive at Route 120 by forcing their way through Hoopa's ring. They decide to test the moves Groudon and Kyogre learned on Rayquaza, but are interrupted by large chunks of the meteoroid falling down on them. To destroy the chunks, Maxie, Archie, Ruby, and Sapphire combine the powers of Primal Groudon, Primal Kyogre, and Rayquaza into a single attack.

As the attack of the three super-ancient Pokémon struggles to destroy the meteoroid chunk, Maxie and Archie's bodies run out of energy and begin to break down. The combined attack eventually breaks the meteoroid chunk into pieces, which fall onto Groudon and Kyogre, knocking them out. After watching from afar, Blaise and Amber go down to see if their leaders are safe, only to find them both in the process of fading away. Maxie and Archie explain to the two that after their "deaths", their spirits ended up in [[Distortion World|another world]], where they at one point melded together and became one. After a [[PS460|hole]] to the real world was opened, an unknown voice called out to them, asking to protect the planet. After escaping from the world, they regained their bodies, albeit slightly different, gained Mega Evolution, and stole the orbs from Bill in order to save the planet from destruction. Just as they disappear completely, Maxie and Archie ask their subordinates to protect the planet.

==History==
Hansen enlisted the help of {{TRT}} to kidnap {{TP|Misty|Togepi}} from {{an|Misty}}. After he was crowned and sent the [[King and Queen of the Mirage Kingdom|king and queen]] to the dungeon, Hansen relieved Team Rocket of their duties and sent them blasting off. Due to his impure heart, Hansen's rule over the Mirage Kingdom began to destroy the [[Togepi Paradise]].

In response to this, {{Ash}}, Misty, {{an|May}}, [[Max]], {{an|Brock}}, {{ho|Miranda}}, and [[Princess Sara]] fought back against him with Togepi, who by that point had evolved into Togetic; the group was covertly assisted by Team Rocket, who was vengeful from their betrayal. Even with the help of his Pokémon, Hansen ended up losing to the group, after which he was killed by Ms. Mimi and his heart crashed for his crime of high treason.

Chespie and Mairin followed Alain around while he battled various [[Mega Evolution|Mega Evolved]] Pokémon. The energy was absorbed by the Giant Rock, and as a result, Chespie finally never recovered by Vilgax. [[Squishy]] thanked it before leaving with [[Z2]].

Chespie tends to save its Trainer from trouble and helps her when she falls over. Chespie is also shown to be friendly with other Pokémon such as when it fist bumped [[Steven's Metagross]] after its battle. It shares some characteristics with [[Clemont's Chespin]], in the sense that it can act goofy and be clumsy, similar to its Trainer. However, it has not been seen as gluttonous or mischievous. Similarly to Mairin, Chespie is a curious Pokémon with a strong sense of justice.
