Catching a sweet scent on the breeze, {{Ash}} and {{AP|Pikachu}} follow their noses to a nearby apple orchard. As {{an|Misty}} and {{an|Brock}} follow, they warn the trainer and his Pokémon against eating apples that don’t belong to them. No sooner is this said than Pikachu is caught red-handed with couple of cores! Once Ash proves Pikachu’s innocence to the orchard owner, he and Pikachu track down the real thieves, a band of hungry {{p|Pichu}} forced into the apple orchard due to low amounts of wild growing fruit. The proprietor soon appears revealing her name as [[Charmaine]].

Whereas [[Team Rocket]] has vague goals and is {{wp|Mafia}}-like (or perhaps {{wp|Yakuza}}-like, considering the Japanese background), Team Aqua and Team Magma have clear goals and are {{wp|cult}}-like, fanatically believing that achieving their goals will bring about the best interests of the people of the world. Cipher and Team Snagem work together to steal Pokémon from others and create [[Shadow Pokémon]] from them, while the leader of Team Galactic wishes to recreate the universe in his image with the powers of {{p|Dialga}} or {{p|Palkia}}. The Go-Rock Squad plan to take over the Pokémon Rangers by capturing powerful Pokémon, making them cause disasters, then commanding the Pokémon to stop by using Stylers so they will be regarded as heroes. [[Team Dim Sun]] plans on using Pokémon to make energy for Altru Inc. and Almia. Each has an iconic leader - [[Giovanni]] (later missing), [[Archie]], [[Maxie]], [[Evice]] and [[Greevil]], [[Gonzap]], [[Cyrus]], [[Gordor]], and [[Blake Hall]] respectively.

Team Rocket had extensive presence in [[Generation I]], known activities include running the [[Celadon Game Corner]], invading [[Silph Co.]], and murdering at least one Pokémon. Even in the {{pkmn|anime}}, where law enforcement officers are clearly present, Team Rocket's activities continue unhindered, as if they were above the law. 

In contrast, [[Team Aqua]] and [[Team Magma]]'s activities are at extremes: simple theft: stealing [[Peeko|a Pokémon]], a meteorite, and one [[Submarine Explorer 1|submarine]]; and causing catastrophes: halting the activity of [[Mt. Chimney|a volcano]] and causing droughts and heavy rains by awakening {{p|Groudon}} and {{p|Kyogre}}, while [[Cipher]] steals countless Pokémon and closes their hearts artificially to make them into fighting machines.

Similarly to Team Rocket, [[Team Galactic]] appears to run the [[Veilstone Game Corner]]. However, unlike the other teams, Team Galactic has several facilities. A warehouse and [[Team Galactic HQ|the headquarters]] are both in [[Veilstone City]], and [[Galactic Eterna Building|another building]] is located in [[Eterna City]]. Team Galactic is far more successful than the other teams in accomplishing their goals, as they have captured {{p|Uxie}}, {{p|Mesprit}}, and {{p|Azelf}}, created the [[Red Chain]], and temporarily capture {{p|Dialga}} or {{p|Palkia}} until the player character and the [[lake guardians]] (or, in {{v2|Platinum}}, {{p|Giratina}}) foils them.

In [[Generation I]], Team Rocket often worked to gain money, through methods such as burglary and selling fossils. Their plans culminated in a hostile takeover of the Silph Corporation building in Saffron City. The gang based their operations in the hidden basement of Celadon's Game Corner.

Initially, [[Giovanni]] was the leader of the [[Viridian Gym]]. After being defeated by {{ga|Red}}, he resigned his position and disappeared to train. Team Rocket was disbanded at this time, but isolated groups still operated in the Sevii Islands until they were made aware of Giovanni's departure.

For three years, Team Rocket appeared to be gone completely. However, an underground movement, led by executives from the Sevii Islands, developed in the Johto region. As usual, it began with crimes committed to earn money (such as cutting off Slowpoke tails and selling them at outrageous prices).

As the Johto Team Rocket grew in size, scientists within the group studied radio waves and how they might be used to control Pokémon. From a former ninja base in Mahogany Town, their experiments affected the Magikarp at the Lake of Rage, causing the Pokémon to evolve unnaturally. Although the experiment was stopped by Lance, Team Rocket soon took over the Goldenrod Radio Tower, intending to use its transmitter to affect Pokémon nationwide.

Before putting their plan into action, however, Team Rocket used the tower to instead attempt to contact Giovanni, hoping he would hear their message and come back to lead. This gave {{ga|Gold}} enough time to infiltrate the besieged Goldenrod and defeat Team Rocket's executives, who again disbanded the group.

Team Rocket first appear in Pokémon Adventures when {{adv|Red}} and {{adv|Blue}} are pursuing {{p|Mew}} in [[Viridian Forest]]. They are led by [[Giovanni]], who is portrayed in a much more sinister light than in the anime or games, as with Team Rocket on a whole.
Contrary to the games and anime, who generally depict [[Gym Leader]]s as valiant, with a few exceptions, in the Red Arc, the three most prominent members of Team Rocket, collectively referred to as the [[Team Rocket Triad]], are [[Koga]], [[Sabrina]] and [[Lt. Surge]]. Like the other villainous trios, two members of the Team Rocket Triad (Sabrina and Lt. Surge) are true to their original calling (though as opposed to the other villainous trios, for them it is being Gym Leaders, not being members of their Team), while one goes his own way, that being Koga.
For a short time, [[Blaine]] too works for Team Rocket, making 5 out of the 8 [[Gym Leader#Indigo League|Kanto Leaders]] Rocket affiliated at some point in their life.

As in the games, Giovanni later disbands Team Rocket and shuns the Team Rocket Triad, and the four of them go their separate ways. Team Rocket make a brief comeback aboard the S.S. Aqua, but they are on the whole unsuccessful. Later, however, [[Pryce]], under the guise of the [[Masked Man]], reforms Team Rocket for his own uses. At this point his most prominent members are [[Keane]], [[Chermaine]], [[Karen]] and [[Will]]. Pryce plans to use Team Rocket to gain control of {{p|Lugia}}, {{p|Ho-Oh}} and eventually {{p|Celebi}}, and through that control time in order to save his {{p|Lapras}}'s parents. After {{adv|Gold}} convinces him to cease his villainous ways, he too disbands Team Rocket, and they are not seen again in the manga.

In the Fire Red Arc, Giovanni once again reforms Team Rocket, the most notable members now being the three Beasts of Team Rocket. The main aim for Team Rocket is to reunite Giovanni with his son, {{adv|Silver}} through use of {{p|Deoxys}}. Like the other villainous trios, two of the Beasts remain true to their original calling (as Rockets), those being Orm and Sird, while the other, Carr, goes his own way. In this arc, Silver is intended to inherit Team Rocket, but he instead shuns it. It is unclear what Team Rocket's fate are at the end of this arc, but with the members in disarray, it is most likely that it dissolved.

Team Aqua seem to have more influence, with Archie holding the position of News Director, but they don't seem to be as well equipped, as shown by the fact that they had no idea what the Orbs were until Amber spied on Team Magma.

The Three Fires of Team Magma are more distinct from each other than the SSS of Team Aqua, because they all have an individual way of using fire. Marge's is the most straight forward, she simply aims to burn things, Mitch uses smoke to hide his movements and Mack uses heat to cause his victims to hallucinate, oddly, he seems to be able to control these hallucinations.
Team Magma and Team Aqua are presented as more individual than they are in any other medium. Team Magma is presented as better equipped in the field of capturing a Legendary Pokémon and using its powers for their own end, as shown by their knowledge and obtainment of the two Orbs, however, they are not as influential, and Archie is able to convince most of Hoenn that Team Magma are the only villains.

Their team's crest is a stylized letter "G" (Possibly to make it resemble a spiral galaxy). Whereas the other teams usually have large logos on their uniforms, Team Galactic's logos are small, being barely visible on their battle sprites.

[[Saturn]], along with two grunts, appeared in ''[[DP036|A Secret Sphere of Influence!]]'', though it was just a brief cameo at the end of the episode. Here, they commissioned Team Rocket to steal the Adamant Orb and frame [[Nando]] for the crime. At the end, they commented that they did a lousy job at it. This was not revealed until their next appearance, ''[[DP060|Journey to the Unown!]]''. Saturn tries to locate the {{p|Unown}} and control them using a cube with an {{p|Arceus}} pattern. She first appeared in ''[[EP048|Holy Matrimony!]]''. In [[DP153]] it was revealed the arrangement was actually made after James expressed interest in her while they were children. Unfortunately it wasn't until after the engagement was announced that James was exposed to her less than tolerable personality, apparently starting with her insulting his beloved pet {{p|Growlithe}}, [[Growlie]].

In ''[[EP048|Holy Matrimony!]]'', James returned to his parents's mansion in [[Kanto]] after receiving word that they had died. However, this was just a hoax to lure him into marrying Jessiebelle; if he did marry her, he would receive his massive inheritance. However it soon became apparent that James was absolutely terrified of Jessiebelle; he explained to [[Jessie]], {{MTR}}, and {{Ash}}'s {{ashfr|group}} how the marriage had been arranged when he and Jessiebelle were young, and she had always been bossy. She would follow him around constantly tormenting him and telling him what to do and how he should do things. She's the main reason why James ran away from home.

Since he had not seen Jessiebelle for years, James was shocked to discover that she had an almost identical appearance to [[Jessie]]. Jessiebelle expelled Jessie, Meowth, and Ash's group from the home and chased James around the mansion's basement, threatening him with her {{p|Vileplume}}'s {{m|Stun Spore}} and a long whip. Eventually, Growlie broke from its doghouse and came to rescue James from Jessiebelle. The two had a Pokémon battle, with Growlie being victorious and Jessiebelle running off the estate.

Jessiebelle is, as demonstrated by her debut appearance, extremely controlling and obsessive. She is a stuck-up, elitist woman with a dominatrix personality, and her professed affection for James may very possibly be a front just to get at his parents' money, though his parents are oblivious to the possibility as they deem her to be their idea of a "perfect daughter-in-law."

James still appears to not have changed his feelings on Jessiebelle. On arrival in Sinnoh in ''[[DP002|Two Degrees of Separation]]'', he was happy to visit his second summer home until he was told that Jessiebelle was on her way there, and he, along with Jessie and Meowth, promptly left the premises. She reappeared in [[DP153]], where she once again fiercely chased after her eternal run-away fiancée, much to his horror.

She would follow him around constantly tormenting him and telling him what to do and how he should do things. She's the main reason why James ran away from home.

Since he had not seen Jessiebelle for years, James was shocked to discover that she had an almost identical appearance to [[Jessie]]. Jessiebelle expelled Jessie, Meowth, and Ash's group from the home and chased James around the mansion's basement, threatening him with her {{p|Vileplume}}'s {{m|Stun Spore}} and a long whip. Eventually, Growlie broke from its doghouse and came to rescue James from Jessiebelle. The two had a Pokémon battle, with Growlie being victorious and Jessiebelle running off the estate.

Jessiebelle is, as demonstrated by her debut appearance, extremely controlling and obsessive. She is a stuck-up, elitist woman with a dominatrix personality, and her professed affection for James may very possibly be a front just to get at his parents' money, though his parents are oblivious to the possibility as they deem her to be their idea of a "perfect daughter-in-law."

James still appears to not have changed his feelings on Jessiebelle. On arrival in Sinnoh in ''[[DP002|Two Degrees of Separation]]'', he was happy to visit his second summer home until he was told that Jessiebelle was on her way there, and he, along with Jessie and Meowth, promptly left the premises. Sometimes, Bad Eggs can transform into [[Invisible Shiny Bulbasaur]].

Bad eggs are not really [[Pokémon egg]]s, and may possibly never have been, but instead the default message returned by the game if the checksum is off (which happens only if data is altered badly). Bad eggs rarely hatch and cannot be released, merely taking up space, though there are methods of removing them.

It is unknown why this happens, as even {{shiny2}} Pokémon have a normal-colored menu sprite, however it may have to do with the game using an egg sprite's palette for the first sprite information it encounters (as the bad egg's is blank).

==Appearances of bad eggs==
===Generation III===
When using the [[GameShark]] code for quick {{pkmn|Daycare}} level-up, an invisible bad egg will appear in the party, which can be switched around using the PC and used in battle.

Alternatively, by using codes to capture wild Pokémon instantly, reducing their HP to 0 yet keeping the battle going, it will be sent to the PC instead as a bad egg. This bad egg can be removed from the game by picking up another Pokémon while it is held, then setting it back down. This bad egg appears differently; instead of an egg in its status box, it is the "unseen Pokémon" image used in the Pokédex and by [[ten question marks|??????????]]. Like ??????????, using it in battle will cause an instant white out (if used without any other Pokémon in the party).

Bad eggs can also occur if the player attempts to hack a Pokémon which has an illegal moveset, as the checksums will not add up correctly (as the checksum would use the Pokémon's normal moveset at that level as a check).

Another way to obtain a bad egg is to catch a Missingno, and it may show up in your party as a bad egg.

===Generation IV===

It is possible to encounter a bad egg in the wild by using an [[Action Replay]] on {{game2|Diamond|Pearl|Platinum}} and setting the wild Pokémon modifier code to 495 (normal eggs appear for 494). The game will freeze instantly on capture when the game attempts to show the Pokédex entry. A normal egg captured in this way will hatch into a random Pokémon, including Pokémon that do not normally hatch from eggs like [[legendary Pokémon]] and evolved Pokémon, or may hatch into [[DPBox]] or, like its [[Glitch egg|Generation II counterpart]], another egg (which will then go on to hatch into a DPBox itself). Due to being incorrectly generated, whatever is hatched may eventually turn into a bad egg itself, and then subsequently hatch yet again. The use of an American Action Replay with a 1 hit kills cheat in double battles will often result in a Bad Egg appearing. If the player sees a Bad Egg, the game will occasionally freeze.

The same issues with regards to capturing Trainers' Pokémon and double battles remain in play in Generation IV, with bad eggs popping up in the same situations.

If {{m|Transform}} is used against a bad egg, its backsprite will be exactly the same as its front sprite.

In [[Pokémon Battle Revolution]], some Pokémon that are hacked may become bad eggs when they are copied from {{game2|Diamond|Pearl|Platinum}}. A common example of a bad egg replacing a Pokémon is when that Pokémon has more than 510 [[effort values]]. Bad eggs are unable to battle in Pokémon Battle Revolution.

Elekid is a yellow, round-bodied Pokémon with black stripes and accentuations. Unlike its evolutions, Elekid is lacking in both a tail and toes. Elekid's arms are bulkier in proportion to its body than those of its evolved forms, and, unlike its evolutions, it has three claws instead of fingers. Like its evolutions, it has stripes on its arms, the two of which continue all the way around. Elekid has two horns on top of its head that are shaped like the prongs of a plug, even with holes in their sides, making Elekid look like a walking power plug. Elekid has a black lightning bolt marking on its chest. Two rows of stripes are near the marking on the sides of its thighs, with the pattern continuing around its lower back. Elekid’s legs are black in coloration, and its feet are rounded and toeless, somewhat resembling shoes.

Elekid is a yellow, round-bodied Pokémon with black stripes and accentuations. Unlike its evolutions, Elekid is lacking in both a tail and toes. Elekid's arms are bulkier in proportion to its body than those of its evolved forms, and, unlike its evolutions, it has three claws instead of fingers. Like its evolutions, it has stripes on its arms, the two of which continue all the way around. Elekid has two horns on top of its head that are shaped like the prongs of a plug, even with holes in their sides, making Elekid look like a walking power plug. Elekid has a black lightning bolt marking on its chest. Two rows of stripes are near the marking on the sides of its thighs, with the pattern continuing around its lower back. Elekid’s legs are black in coloration, and its feet are rounded and toeless, somewhat resembling shoes.

Elekid is a yellow, round-bodied Pokémon with black stripes and accentuations. Unlike its evolutions, Elekid is lacking in both a tail and toes. Elekid's arms are bulkier in proportion to its body than those of its evolved forms, and, unlike its evolutions, it has three claws instead of fingers. Like its evolutions, it has stripes on its arms, the two of which continue all the way around. Elekid has two horns on top of its head that are shaped like the prongs of a plug, even with holes in their sides, making Elekid look like a walking power plug. Elekid has a black lightning bolt marking on its chest. Two rows of stripes are near the marking on the sides of its thighs, with the pattern continuing around its lower back. Elekid’s legs are black in coloration, and its feet are rounded and toeless, somewhat resembling shoes.

Elekid is a yellow, round-bodied Pokémon with black stripes and accentuations. Unlike its evolutions, Elekid is lacking in both a tail and toes. Elekid's arms are bulkier in proportion to its body than those of its evolved forms, and, unlike its evolutions, it has three claws instead of fingers. Like its evolutions, it has stripes on its arms, the two of which continue all the way around. Elekid has two horns on top of its head that are shaped like the prongs of a plug, even with holes in their sides, making Elekid look like a walking power plug. Elekid has a black lightning bolt marking on its chest. Two rows of stripes are near the marking on the sides of its thighs, with the pattern continuing around its lower back. Elekid’s legs are black in coloration, and its feet are rounded and toeless, somewhat resembling shoes.

Elekid is a yellow, round-bodied Pokémon with black stripes and accentuations. Unlike its evolutions, Elekid is lacking in both a tail and toes. Elekid's arms are bulkier in proportion to its body than those of its evolved forms, and, unlike its evolutions, it has three claws instead of fingers. Like its evolutions, it has stripes on its arms, the two of which continue all the way around. Elekid has two horns on top of its head that are shaped like the prongs of a plug, even with holes in their sides, making Elekid look like a walking power plug. Elekid has a black lightning bolt marking on its chest. Two rows of stripes are near the marking on the sides of its thighs, with the pattern continuing around its lower back. Elekid’s legs are black in coloration, and its feet are rounded and toeless, somewhat resembling shoes.

Elekid is a yellow, round-bodied Pokémon with black stripes and accentuations. Unlike its evolutions, Elekid is lacking in both a tail and toes. Elekid's arms are bulkier in proportion to its body than those of its evolved forms, and, unlike its evolutions, it has three claws instead of fingers. Like its evolutions, it has stripes on its arms, the two of which continue all the way around. Elekid has two horns on top of its head that are shaped like the prongs of a plug, even with holes in their sides, making Elekid look like a walking power plug. Elekid has a black lightning bolt marking on its chest. Two rows of stripes are near the marking on the sides of its thighs, with the pattern continuing around its lower back. Elekid’s legs are black in coloration, and its feet are rounded and toeless, somewhat resembling shoes.

* Elekid's Pokédex entries between Generations III and IV are contradictory on whether Elekid can store electrical energy in its body.
* Nintendo was concerned about making Elekid toys because children might put the prongs into a power outlet, which could electrocute the child.
