The Kakapo is listed as a possible design inspiration for Browt, but I don't see any evidence for that other than that they're both flightless birds. I think it's best if we don't list a specific bird inspiration until we see its evolutions as right now it seems to be a pretty generic chick. :I did some digging and while the translated names universally focus on the leafy eyebrows, the category names in other languages much more explicitly reference chickens rather than the generic term “chick.” “Polloporoto” and “Pollito Haba” in Spanish depending on the region, “Pollegume” in Italian, and “Poussin Pois” (literally “chick pea”) in French. I also enjoyed “Bohnenküken” in German.
:It seems that the original Japanese category name “Mame Hiyoko” also literally translates to “Bean Chick,” but with the added context that chick-shaped pastries filled with sweet bean paste are apparently a common treat in some parts of Japan. So this little guy appears to be a reference that flew over most of the internet’s collective heads. Now whether it will stay a chicken as it evolves, I have no idea. Even just in the world of existing starters, we’ve had a duckling starter become a humanoid peacock-waterfowl hybrid and a previous baby chicken that became a raptor-chicken-man, not to mention all the different kinds of regional birds transform into different species over the years

::Actually, I think it’s even more simple than this. The word for chickpea in Japanese also references baby chickens just as it does in English, combining the words for bean and chick: “Hiyoko Mame.” And Browt’s Pokédex category in Japanese is just “Mame Hiyoko.” So Browt is just a literal chick pea, or pea chick. Sometimes the simplest explanations are the correct ones. Rather than a jackdaw, it's more likely that it is based on the common raven. They are the largest corvids found in Britain and live in the Tower of London. There is an English legend that England would not fall to invaders as long as there were ravens at the Tower of London, further tying in to its "Knight" aesthetic. I've seen the whole "Corviknight is a jackdaw" thing pop up on several YouTube videos and gaming news sites, because these "journalists" are googling Corviknight and seeing Bulbapedia's link first with this inaccurate, incomplete information. At one point Corviknight is shown in battle at level 60 with 200 HP. Calculating this reveals that it has a minimum base HP of 61 if the one shown has a 0 HP IV and 0 HP EVs and a maximum of 108 with 31 HP IV and 252 HP EVs. Pidgeot is an avian Pokémon with large wings, sharp talons, and a short, hooked beak. Its glossy {{wp|plumage}} is mostly brown with cream-colored underparts and flight feathers. Its head is decorated crest that is nearly as long as its body. The center feathers of its crest are yellow, while the outer feathers are red. The fan-like feathers of its tail are red or brown. Its beak and legs are pink, and there three forward-facing toes and one backward-facing toe on each foot. Behind each eye is an angular black marking.

Pidgeot grows noticeably when it Mega Evolves, with a larger body and longer, broader wings. Its wingtips and tailfeathers are tipped with blue, and its cream coloring is now white. Its eyes turn red, and its pupils turn white. Mega Pidgeot has an even more elaborate crest on its head, with a streamer-like red plume extending from a mane of yellow feathers. A red feather projects from the front of its crest and a there is a single red highlight on the left side. The crest is sensitive to air currents, acting like a large antenna and stabilizing Mega Pidgeot's flight. I'm seeing rumors crop up on Twitter that Decidueye is based on the [[wp:stilt-owl]], an ancient owl that was native to Hawaii, but went extinct some time between Hawaii's initial colonization by what are now native Hawaiians and the arrival of Europeans. Swablu is an avian Pokémon with a round, blue body. Since it has no discernible neck, its body appears to be all head. There are two long feathers on top of its head, and it has a short, rounded white beak and beady, black eyes. Its wings are fluffy and white, resembling cotton or clouds. It has tiny, white feet and two pointed tail feathers.

Swablu does not like dirty surroundings, so it cleans things with its cottony wings. It uses streams and freshwater springs to wash its wings when they become dirty from polishing. It is commonly found living in flocks in {{DL|List of Pokémon by habitat|Forest Pokémon|forested habitats}}, but often flies closer to towns during the Spring. Swablu is very friendly and largely unafraid of humans. As a result, it frequently perches on people's heads like a fluffy hat.

==Biology==
Altaria is a blue, phoenix-like Pokémon. Its body and cloud-like wings are covered in fluffy, white feathers. It often folds its wings behind it, obscuring its back. Two long, blue plumes extend like streamers from the back of its head. It has a short, hooked beak and prominent cheek patches, both of which are white. It has a long neck and short legs protruding from its fluffy body. The feet are blue with four toes, three claws forward and one backward. The tail is made up of five feathers, the outer two being longer than the inner ones.

Mega Altaria has more extensive cloud-like plumage, with a large, fluffy mass extending from its back. Its cottony wings are more distinct than in its base form, and its blue belly is now exposed. Additional fluff surrounds its neck like a collar, and its head is adorned with a hat-like crest. A single, small feather curls out from its forehead, though its facial features are unchanged. Its tail feathers have grown into a long, wavy streamer, with three longer central plumes.

This Pokémon uses its wings to catch updrafts and soar across the sky. It gracefully glides through the clouds, often while singing or humming in a soprano voice. Its voice seems to have special properties which induce a dreamy state for listeners. Altaria can be very affectionate, enveloping people it has bonded with in its cotton-like wings. ==Biology==
Altaria is a blue, phoenix-like Pokémon. Its body and cloud-like wings are covered in fluffy, white feathers. It often folds its wings behind it, obscuring its back. Two long, blue plumes extend like streamers from the back of its head. It has a short, hooked beak and prominent cheek patches, both of which are white. It has a long neck and short legs protruding from its fluffy body. The feet are blue with four toes, three claws forward and one backward. The tail is made up of five feathers, the outer two being longer than the inner ones.

Mega Altaria has more extensive cloud-like plumage, with a large, fluffy mass extending from its back. Its cottony wings are more distinct than in its base form, and its blue belly is now exposed. Additional fluff surrounds its neck like a collar, and its head is adorned with a hat-like crest. A single, small feather curls out from its forehead, though its facial features are unchanged. Its tail feathers have grown into a long, wavy streamer, with three longer central plumes.

This Pokémon uses its wings to catch updrafts and soar across the sky. It gracefully glides through the clouds, often while singing or humming in a soprano voice. Its voice seems to have special properties which induces a dreamy state for listeners. Altaria can be very affectionate, enveloping people it has bonded with in its cotton-like wings. Altaria had a cameo appearance in ''[[M08|Lucario and the Mystery of Mew]]''. It could be seen in a flock with some Swablu, living in the [[Tree of Beginning]].

A group of Altaria, {{p|Sentret}}, {{p|Furret}}, {{p|Shroomish}}, and {{p|Swablu}} helped {{OBP|Pokémon Ranger|Ranger series}} [[Jack Walker]] when he was a young boy in a blizzard as seen in a flashback in ''[[M09|Pokémon Ranger and the Temple of Sea]]''.

Altaria is likely based on {{wp|Peng_(mythology)|Peng}}, Chinese legendary birds of enormous size, said to travel 3000 {{wp|li_(unit)|li}} in one flap of their mighty, cloud-like wings. They're often portrayed as having a dragon's head and whiskers.

Altaria is a combination of ''{{wp|alto}}'' (Italian for ''high'') or ''altus'' (Latin for ''high'') and ''{{wp|aria}}'' (Italian for ''air''). ''Ária'' means ''melody'' in Portuguese, which may be related to Altaria's singing abilities. It may also refer to the star {{wp|Altair}}, the brightest star in the constellation {{wp|Aquila (constellation)|Aquila}}, the Eagle.

Tyltalis may refer to ''{{wp|Epsilon Draconis|Tyl}}''—also known as Epsilon Draconis—a star in the constellation {{wp|Draco (constellation)|Draco}}, the Dragon. It may also be a reference to the play ''L'Oiseau Bleu'' (''{{wp|The Blue Bird (play)|The Blue Bird}}'') by Belgian playwright {{wp|Maurice Maeterlinck}}. The story is about two siblings, Mytyl and Tyltyl (ミチル ''Michiru'' and チルチル ''Chiruchiru'' in the Japanese translation of the play), who are tasked with finding the "blue bird of happiness."
