The '''Trainer Card level''' is a property of a {{ga|Trainer Card}} indicating how many major in-game tasks the {{player}} has completed that was introduced in {{game|Ruby and Sapphire|s}} and appear in all [[Generation III]], {{gen|IV}}, {{gen|V}}, and {{gen|VI}} games, as well as {{game|Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl|s}}. The required events, such as entering the [[Hall of Fame]] or [[Gotta catch 'em all!|completing]] the [[Pokédex]], can be completed in any order and vary by game. Upon increasing the level of a Trainer Card, it will immediately change color; the player does not need to check their Trainer Card for the change to take effect. In the Generation III and IV games, the Trainer Card level is additionally indicated by a number of stars on the card itself.

Though the achievements and colors differ slightly between Ruby and Sapphire, {{2v2|FireRed|LeafGreen}}, and {{v2|Emerald}}, when linked players view each other's cards the color will be consistent for Generation III games—a Trainer from FireRed and LeafGreen with one star will be said to all players to have a Green card, while a Trainer from Ruby, Sapphire, or Emerald with one star will be said to all players to have a Bronze card. In the Generation IV games, however, color is consistent from the point of view of the game: a Trainer from {{2v2|HeartGold|SoulSilver}} who has three stars will be seen as a Silver card from the point of view of {{3v2|Diamond|Pearl|Platinum}}, although from HeartGold and SoulSilver's perspective the Trainer Card is a Violet card. Likewise, the Sinnoh [[Badge]] case, if the Trainer Card viewed is that of a HeartGold or SoulSilver game, will always be empty.

Although the Trainer Card levels are for the most part aesthetic, certain NPCs like the [[Pokémon Center Nurse]] [[Pokémon Center Nurse/Quotes#HeartGold and SoulSilver|change their greetings]] to acknowledge the player's achievement of obtaining 4 or 5 stars.

In [[Pokémon Sun and Moon|Pokémon Sun, Moon]], [[Pokémon Ultra Sun and Ultra Moon|Ultra Sun, and Ultra Moon]], the player's Trainer Passport is [[Trainer Card (game)#Stamps|stamped]] instead, marking not just major milestones in their [[island challenge]], but milestones as a Trainer similar to those tracked in previous games.

== Regarding the Black/White Trainer Card ==

I have recently been going through the entire series, completing EVERYTHING. However, I have yet to unlock the Black/White Trainer Card in Pokémon Black or White, and frankly, I believe that's because that particular card doesn't exist. The chart claims that one way of increasing your card rank is by defeating Subway Bosses Ingo and Emmet in the Super Singles and Super Doubles Trains, respectively, in the Battle Subway. I have done this AND defeated them simultaneously in the Super Multi Train, and my card did not change. Instead, for each Super Train Boss I defeated, I was given a trophy, a total of 3 rewarded and placed in my bedroom in Nuvema Town. On top of this, when I received the Gold card in either game, the Pokémon Center Nurse would acknowledge my achieving that particular rank, something that in previous games would only happen upon reaching the highest rank on your card. I am well aware that the chart is based off information taken from Serebii's website, and I mean no offense to the guy, but I believe he may, in fact, had been misinformed when uploading data on the Trainer Card ranks in Black/White. After all, his site also says you need to obtain every Entralink Pass Power, when in reality, you have to raise your Entree's Black and White Levels to 30. Yes, you also unlock every Pass Power by doing this, but you still need to pay for them with Pass Orbs, and their effects are only temporary. I haven't started on Black 2/White 2 yet, so I cannot say whether or not the Black/White Trainer Card exists in those games, though I do plan on looking into it.--[[User:Knowitall|Knowitall]] ([[User talk:Knowitall|talk]]) 09:20, 21 June 2020 (UTC)

::I did some further research, like you suggested, and after looking through Japanese blog posts, I eventually found it. Or rather, I found THEM. Apparently, you get the Black Card in Black Version, and the White Card in White Version. However, those blogs say the same thing as this site, that you have to beat the bosses of the Super Singles and Super Doubles Trains, which, as I've said in my initial post, I have, in fact, done so, as well as the Super Multi Train, which one blog in particular stated was only optional. I couldn't have missed a prior requirement, as I was saving the Battle Subway requirement for last, and made sure my card in both games changed color upon completing a requirement. So now, the question is why I didn't get that final upgrade. I could try again on another save file, but beating the Battle Subway bosses 3 times has left me feeling mentally drained, so I'll just consider the issue resolved, unless someone else would like to look into it.--[[User:Knowitall|Knowitall]] ([[User talk:Knowitall|talk]]) 23:25, 21 June 2020 (UTC)

::::::I have an update: I now have the Black Card! It's just like the chart said, beat Ingo in the Super Singles Train, and Emmet in the Super Doubles Train. In other words, a 49-win streak in both trains. So, what happened? Well, I have a confession to make. When I first attempted to beat the Battle Subway, I got frustrated at my constant losses, and tried hacking in the required win streaks via PKHeX. That didn't work, so I reverted the hacked win records to 0, and swept the Subway with a Wondertomb/Wondereye combo. Apparently, my earlier meddling broke the code that tells the game to change my card color. I spent the whole day starting over on an older save from before I tried hacking, BUT I still used the Wonder Guard duo. This time, I did get the color change. So really, the joke's on me for trying to cheese my way through it, but I have no regrets. I thought the claim for the final trainer card level requirements in BW2 was suspect, specifically, the part about the requirements being changed for the international release, so I decided to use PKHeX to see if this was really the case. I can confirm, after changing both Entree levels to 30 on a Japanese save, I was able to get the associated level up, so the requirements are definitely the same for both versions. I'm not necessarily sure if this means the Medal Rally simply isn't required, or if it's an alternate way of getting that last card level, but it is still possible to legitimately max out your Trainer Card in the Japanese version.
