Gold follows Silver to the Lake of Rage. Looking for him, Gold is surprised by a group of Gyarados thrashing around in the water. The locals flee, but Gold spots Silver running towards the Lake. Nearly crushed by a glancing attack, Silver tells Gold that there are strange radio waves in the area, forcing the wild Pokemon to evlove. Silver flies off to find the source of the radio waves, leaving Gold alone to deal with multiple angry wild Gyarados by himself.

Interference on their PokeGear reveals the source to be a Red Gyarados in the center of the swarm. Silver captures it, thus stopping the rest from rampaging. But it's only a matter of seconds before the two boys begin arguing again.

Suddenly, a fog covers the area. Gold instantly recognizes it as that of The Mask Of Ice. Secretly setting up a ring of razor-sharp icicles around them, the two boys fight along side eac other, before the Mask's taunting gets the better of Silver. Chasing after him alone, Silver calls upon all of the wild Gyarados in the Lake (as the Red Gyarados is the leader of them) and uses their combined strength to attack the Mask.

Meanwhile, Gold is busy dealing with some of the Mask's Pokemon by himself. After cleverly defeating them, he hurries after Silver, only to find the entire lake frozen solid. Silver and his Gyarados are knocked out. Gold runs to him, only to see a giant chunk of ice smash into Silver, throwing him into the water. Claiming that Silver was being punished, he then attacks Gold as well. The last few panels show Gold and his Aipom the instant before a giant chunk of ice is about to hit them, and the impact. Silver's hat and PokeGear are seen tossed into the air.

Professor Cozmo (Japanese: ?) is an meteoriticist who lives in Fallarbor Town in Hoenn.

In the Anime
Professor Cozmo was at the top of Mt. Chimney looking for metorites and managed to find one using a detector. He was then attacked by members of Team Magma, who demanded the metorite.

Then, Team Aqua showed up. Team Aqua claimed that Magma wanted to use the metorite to cause the volcano to errupt. As the two rival groups battled eachother, Cozmo tried to sneak off.
leader then leaps down and they prepare for battle. He was noticed, but both Teams were so evenly matched that neither could catch up with him.

Ash, who was looking for someone to help his friends escape from a stuck gondola, ran right into Professor Cozmo. The two hid from Team Magma and Ash explained the Team's motivations to the Professor. Professor Cozmo showed Ash the meteor and Ash said that they'd have to prevent Team Magma from stealing it.

A Golbat owned by a Magma snatched the meteor away. Team Magma placed it inside of a giant contraption near the crater of Mt. Chimeny and started to use it to activatet he volcano.

Cozmo realized what they were doing, and he agreed to make a distraction while Ash tried to take back the meteor.

Cozmo tossed a rock at a Magma, and allowed Pikachu to short circuit the machine with electicity.

Cozmo beat up the squad leader, and shoved the machine into the lava of the volcano. Ash thanked the Professor for being willing to destroy the meteor to save the volcano.

Team Magma retreated,as did Team Aqua. Ash got his pals and Team Rocket off the gondola, and Professor Cozmo gave them directions to Lavaridge Town before heading home.

In the Games
Professor Cozmo leaves either with Team Aqua or Team Magma for the Meteor Falls, thinking that they were going to help him excavate meteors. However, the offending Team steals the meteor.

In the Pokémon Special Manga
Professor Cozmo believed Team Aqua to be noble heroes, so he assisted them with the meteor and their device on Mt. Chimney.
She does, however, leave town on many occasions to perform various jobs for anyone with the money to hire her. She was shown in volume 136 to be in the middle of such a job, pretending to steal a large pearl to test the security at the Goldenrod Museum. After completing it, she pauses on a rooftop to wonder what she is doing with her life.

Her father, being both a ninja and a member of Team Rocket, had hoped to make her a member as well, both serving their master, Giovanni. But with Koga and Giovanni's disappearence, she was left alone and unguided. Searching for not just her father, but a master, Janine found herself in the same situation as Suicune, whom also was searching for a trainer in its upcoming battle.

Suddenly, Suicune appeared before Janine, and challenged her. Suicune seemed initially caught off-guard by her tactics, but soon won. Before he left, Janine expressed her desires for finding her own master, just as she felt Suicune was.

Janine later fought against Falkner at the Gym Leaders Challenge. Despite overwhelming attacks, she forfited the match when she left the battlefield, pursuing who she thought was her father.
Later, at the Gym Leaders Challenge, she was to face off against Blaine. This was an important matter for her, because as Lance's cousin, she thought that Blaine would know what become of Lance after Blaine and Lance's battle at Cerise Island the year before.

During the attack by Team Rocket, which ended up with all the Gym Leaders trapped on the recently completed bullet train, she forced Blaine into fighting their duel.
