Serena (Japanese: サリナ Sarina), also known as Professor Serena, is a character of the day who appeared in Judgment Day!. She teaches in the Pokémon Battle Judge Training Institute, located on Bomba Island.

Jimmy met Serena when he accidentally arrived on the island while sleeping on a boat. Much later, he introduced Ash and ashfr to her when they accidentally boarded the boat to Bomba Island instead of the one to Mossdeep City. Brock immediately fell head over heels with Serena but Max stopped him by dragging him away by the ear. Serena then agreed to enlist Ash and his friends as helpers to some trainees who were also becoming Battle Judges. Serena assigned Jimmy to become the judge of a mock battle between Ash and Brock. During the battle, Serena noticed that Jimmy made tons of mistakes with the judging such as when Jimmy mistaked Corphish for being defeated when in fact it just fell down for a few seconds. Serena explained to him that he was still learning and was expected to make a few mistakes every now and then.

Later, after Jimmy told his story to the group about the time he got Wartortle, Ivysaur, and Charmeleon, Serena returned and talked to Jimmy. She noticed TRT with their mecha who used it to capture Jimmy's three Pokémon. Serena, noticing that Jimmy was disheartened when he fell of the mecha, told him about his good heart which renewed Jimmy's faith. After Team Rocket was defeated with the help of Jimmy's newly evolved Blastoise, Serena told Jimmy that he should become a Pokémon Trainer instead of a judge. The next day, Serena and Jimmy waved to the group her farewells after Brock did some flirting to Serena once again.
Serena (Japanese: セレナ Serena) is a future traveling companion of Ash who debuted in Kalos, Where Dreams and Adventures Begin!.

History
Serena first appeared in Kalos, Where Dreams and Adventures Begin!, where she was forcibly woken up by her Grace's Fletchling. In Lumiose City Pursuit!, she attempted to practice Rhyhorn racing after being encouraged by her mother, a famous Rhyhorn racer herself. However, Serena's attempts at controlling her mother's Rhyhorn ended with her being sent crashing into the ground.

Later that evening, Serena complained about her earlier practice leaving several scratches on her face. She sat down to watch a news report on an incident that was occurring in Lumiose City. On screen she saw Ash Ketchum trying to calm down a rampaging Garchomp at Prism Tower and recognized Ash as a boy she had known in her childhood. The next day, while feeding Rhyhorn, Serena thought aloud that something interesting was going to happen and that it involved Ash.

She began her Pokémon journey in XY003 when set off to Professor Sycamore's lab in Lumiose City. Immediately upon arriving, Serena questioned the Professor about the boy on television and he confirmed that it was indeed Ash Ketchum. However, to Serena's disappointment, Ash had already left Lumiose City the previous day. Serena was then offered to choose her starter Pokémon.

In XY004, Serena chose Serena, received a Pokédex, and started her journey. Later that day, she continued to travel with Fennekin, but didn't want to camp out for the night after seeing some wild Venipede. She was attacked by a wild Vespiquen that she mistook for a person, only for Fennekin to scare Vespiquen away. Afterward, Serena met a Nurse Joy who told her where to find the nearest Pokémon Center.
<!--
It is also revealed that she is one of Ash's childhood friends, who moved to the Kalos region before the start of the series.
I can confirm beyond the shadow of a doubt that your Pokemon doesn't have to be your starter (or even have you as it's OT) to learn Frenzy Plant and the like. I started a LeafGreen about a year ago, and played through it as if it was Yellow. That is, I traded off my Starter for a Pokemon holding a Light Ball and gave it to a Pikachu I caught in Viridian Forest. When I got to Cerulean, I traded a Bulbasaur to my game that had been chosen as a starter in a different game. Same when I got to Nugget Bridge, and beat Surge for Charmander and Squirtle. Now, when I got to Two Island, ALL THREE of them could learn and did learn their respective moves. I should note that my offical starter (the one I chose and traded off as soon as I got Pikachu) was Charmander, and the Charmander I used wasn't even that same Charmander. All it requires is a high enough happiness from the final forms of the Kanto Starters, not that they are the Pokemon you chose at the beginning of the game.

Bleh, that's a lot of text. In I just bolded the important part.
Bill showed up and took me to One Island right after I got my seventh badge, on Cinnabar. When I went to Two Island, the move tutor wouldn't teach my Venusaur Frenzy Plant. But I went back after getting my eighth badge in Viridian, and this time she taught the move. Not sure if you need all eight badges for all three types of moves (though I would assume so), and I don't know if it's a requirement in other generations (I haven't played anything beyond G3). But maybe this requirement should be mentioned in the article? Teknomage (talk) 23:16, 14 November 2012 (UTC)
