She is the Gym Leader of Fuchsia City's Gym, known officially as the Fuchsia Gym, after her father, Koga, is promoted to the Elite Four in Generation II. She specializes in Poison Pokémon. She gives the Soul to Trainers who defeat her.

In the games
Janine's first appearance was in Gold. Following Koga's promotion to the Elite Four, she succeeded him as the Gym Leader of the Fuchsia Gym. Like her father, she is known as "The Poisonous Ninja Master", and uses Poison Pokémon in battle. She appears in the same capacity in HeartGold and SoulSilver.

Originally, Janine's goal was to use Poison Pokémon just as well as her father. After becoming a Gym Leader, Janine hopes that by applying herself, she'll improve her skills and become better than her father, and (following her loss) the protagonist.

When encountered in her Gym, Janine hides behind the invisible walls that were installed prior to Generation I/III. To further confuse her challengers, the junior Trainers of the Gym are disguised like Janine. Once they have been defeated, the Leader will battle with a team of Poison-type Pokémon. Once defeated, she will yield the Soul and a Poison-type TM: 06 in Generation II; 84 in Generation IV.

Like the other Gym Leaders of Kanto and Johto, Janine will leave her Gym from time to time in HeartGold and SoulSilver. Every evening between 4:00 PM and 6:00 PM, she can be found at the Pokémon League Reception Gate near Victory Road, on her way to visit her father and deliver his lunch (from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM, she will say she is done delivering the lunch and offer to take a photograph with the player). She will give travelers her phone number, after which she can be called on Monday afternoons to arrange a rematch at Saffron City's Fighting Dojo. On Mondays, she can be found in the Celadon Department Store arguing with Falkner over which of their fathers is the superior Trainer.

Before the events that led to her employment as the Gym Leader, Janine hung around outside the Fuchsia Zoo. She will tell the protagonist of FireRed and LeafGreen that Koga is teaching her how to use Poison Pokémon in an obvious reference to the previously released Generation II games.

Janine also appears in Pokémon Stadium 2's Kanto Gym Leader Castle. This is the only time in which her active team contains Pokémon not of the Poison-type.

*Calling her:
:"Hello, hello, hello... Oh, hello, what are you up to? I'm just fine, thanks! Many of the Gym Leaders are much stronger than I am. We've just got to work harder!"
:"Hello, hello, hello... Oh, hello, what are you up to? I'm just fine, thanks! My schedule's fairly open on Monday afternoons. Would you mind calling me back then?"
:"Sorry? I’m afraid I can’t hear you very well. Must be a bad connection. Can you call again from somewhere else?"

*Her calling the player:
:"This is Janine. How are you doing? Hey, can I talk to you about my dad? Only if you want to hear, though. Seriously? I might talk your ear off if I’m not careful!"
:"This is Janine. How are you doing? See, I’ve been training with my dad since I was little--to be a Gym Leader. I haven’t even considered taking any other path, really. It’s my dream to someday become a better Gym Leader than Dad!"
:"This is Janine. How are you doing? Falkner in Violet City... He’s talking about his dad all the time! Seriously, he’s such a daddy’s boy, he needs to become his own person sometime, you know? What do you mean, I should talk? Ha ha--mind your own business!"
In the Pokémon Adventures manga
Janine is the daughter of Koga, and the new Gym Leader at Fuchsia City. She does, however, leave town on many occasions to perform various jobs/ simulations for anyone with the money to hire her. She was shown in VS. Crobat to be in the middle of such a job, pretending to steal a large pearl to test the security at the Goldenrod Museum. After completing it, she pauses on a rooftop to wonder what she is doing with her life.

Her father, being both a ninja and a member of Team Rocket, had hoped to make her a member as well, both serving their master, Giovanni. But with Koga and Giovanni's disappearance, she was left alone and unguided. Searching for not just her father, but a master, Janine found herself in the same situation as Suicune, whom also was searching for a Trainer in its upcoming battle.

Suddenly, Suicune appeared before Janine, and challenged her with her Crobat. Suicune seemed initially caught off-guard by her tactics, but soon won. Before he left, Janine expressed her desires for finding her own master, just as she felt Suicune was.

Janine later fought against Falkner at the Gym Leaders Challenge. Despite overwhelming attacks, she forfeited the match when she left the battlefield, pursuing who she thought was her father. She never did catch the mysterious person, however, and it is unknown if they will ever meet again.
Trivia
* In the English versions of FireRed and LeafGreen, her name is mistakenly listed as Charine in Koga's Fame Checker entries.
* In , Janine's Pokémon are the lowest leveled of all the Kanto Gym Leaders. This may reflect her status as the newest Gym Leader.
* In , Janine can appear in two places at once. When she is called for a rematch on Monday during the day, she will be at the Fighting Dojo and in the Celadon Department Store, talking to Falkner.
* Chuang Yi mistakenly refers to her by her Japanese name, Anzu, rather than her English name, in 11 of Pokémon Adventures. This was corrected in following volumes.
* In the Generation II games, her whole Pokémon team was the opposite gender to her despite the 50-50 gender ratio. This was changed in HeartGold and SoulSilver, in which she has an all female team rather than an all male team like before.
*Janine is the only Gym Leader introduced prior to Generation V not to make an appearance in the anime.
*In the English versions of the Generation II games, there is a grammatical error in the sentence where she gives the Soul Badge to the player. This was corrected in the remakes.
*Janie is the only Kanto Gym Leader other than Giovanni who cannot be battled in all Japan Based Regions.
Purrloin is a primarily purple-colored, feline Pokémon. Its head is large proportional to its body, and tufted at its ears and cheeks. Long, tapered violet markings above its green, feline eyes extend towards its ears. Tapered whitish markings above its eyes resemble eyebrows, and its muzzle, sporting a diminutive nose, is of similar coloration. Its neck, shoulders, back and hind paws are also whitish-colored. The lower portion of its forelimbs are purple, and the tip of its tail sports a curved, vaguely scythe-like extension.
Special abilities
Behavior
It likes to play with people's belongings and making off with them. In order to do so, it often puts up a cute act to put people's guard down before stealing their belongings. Even when caught red-handed, it usually gets off the hook due to its charming behavior. When angered, it fights back with its claws.
Trivia
* Purrloin was seen first in the Pokémon Sunday special episode preview in September 6. It was later removed from the same preview, much like the revelation of Zekrom's secondary type earlier.
* Purrloin is the only Pokémon that has a base stat total of 281.
*Even though Purrloin has a 50/50 gender ratio, in his/her Poképark Pad Entry it is referred to as female.

Origin
Purrloin is based on a black cat.

Name origin
Purrloin is derived from "purloin", meaning to steal, and "purr", a sound a cat makes. "Loin" may also be a corruption of "Lion". Choroneko may come from 猫 neko, meaning cat, and ちょろまかす choromakasu, meaning to pilfer.
Pichu (Japanese: ピチュー Pichu) is an Electric baby Pokémon.

It evolves into Pikachu when leveled up with high happiness, which evolves into Raichu when exposed to a Thunderstone.

Biology
Physiology
Pichu is a small ground-dwelling rodent. Its fur is very short, and it is pale yellow in color. The tips of its large ears are black, and it has additional black markings on its neck and tail. Its tail is short, but still bears some resemblance to the large lightning-bolt structure it will develop later on in life. It has pouches in its cheeks, which are pinkish colored and used for storing electricity. Its nose is extremely small, almost like a dot. It is classified as a List of Pokémon by body style, but many have been known to walk easily on their hind legs.

Gender differences
Pichu normally have no gender differences; however, the Spiky-eared Pichu, which is female, has a spiked ear.

Special abilities
Pichu, like its evolutions, is capable of producing electrical sparks from its cheeks, charging itself with electricity more easily on days with thunderclouds or when the air is very dry. However, since Pichu is only a baby, it cannot control them as well, and may release electricity unintentionally. However, it is not able to store large amounts of electricity in its body.

Pichu, and its evolution family, Pikachu and Raichu, are the only known Pokémon that can learn Volt Tackle.

Behavior
Pichu are social Pokémon known for their playfulness. They tend to be very mischievous and are always on the lookout for something fun to do. They are usually found in groups, typically with members of their own species, but occasionally with other types of Pokémon. Like their evolutions, they are capable of storing electricity from the atmosphere, however, this ability requires much practice to perfect. Pichu are frequently observed touching tails with each other, creating a shower of sparks.
Trivia
* Pichu used to be game director Junichi Masuda's favorite Pokémon. His new favorite is Victini.
* Pichu is the first baby Pokémon in the National Pokédex listing.
* Pichu is the only Generation II Pokémon to be playable in Super Smash Bros. Melee (although many others have appeared from Poké Balls). Like in the anime, it hurts itself when using electrical attacks.
* Pichu is the only Pokémon with a base stat total of 205 that is not based on a cocoon.
* Together with Seedot, Rattata and Magikarp, Pichu is the easiest Pokémon to catch in Pokémon Ranger, with only one loop necessary.
* Due to it being distributed via Nintendo Wi-Fi Connection for European and North American games, the Pikachu-colored Pichu, a Shiny Pichu, was the first Pokémon to be given out over Wi-Fi Connection outside Japan.
**Jirachi has this honor for the Japanese games, as well as overall.
* Despite being able to learn ThunderPunch through breeding, it can't learn it via move tutor.
* Pichu is the first Pokémon in the National Pokédex to be a pre-evolution of a Pokémon from a previous generation.
*Gold's Pichu has a ruffle of fur on it's head.

Origin
Pichu draws inspiration from mice, squirrels, and various other rodents.

Name origin
Pichu's name is a shortening of the name Pikachu to indicate that it is less than Pikachu. Its name, like Pikachu's, is a combination of ピカピカ pikapika, which is Japanese onomatopoeia for sparkle, and チューチュー chūchū, which is the sound of squeaking.

It evolves from Diglett starting at level 26.

Biology
Physiology
They are List of Pokémon by body style, although what they look like underground is a mystery. They may be fused together, but that is uncertain. They are known, however, to have feet, as revealed in Pokémon Mystery Dungeon: Explorers of Time and Explorers of Darkness and Pokémon Mystery Dungeon: Explorers of Sky.

Gender differences
None.

Special abilities
They tunnel under the earth at 60mph, triggering tremors and earthquakes.

Behavior
Its three heads bob separately up and down to loosen the soil nearby, making it easier for it to burrow. Each triplet composing a Dugtrio trio thinks exactly like the other two triplets. They work cooperatively to burrow endlessly. In battle, it digs through the ground and strikes the unsuspecting foe from an unexpected direction.

Habitat
Dugtrio live in tunnels and caves under the earth. They also sometimes live in burrows near forests where they maintain the soil & plant trees to revitalize wooded areas. They also have been shown to live in trees as high as the Canopy (biology). They are normally native to Kanto but can be found in Sinnoh as well.

Diet
Pokémon food
Dugtrio feed on plant roots.

In the anime
Major appearances
Dugtrio first appeared in Dig Those Diglett. They worked with Diglett to plant trees in a forest.

In The Underground Round Up, Poncho used Diglett and Dugtrio to rid a town of Electrode. Poncho only used his Dugtrio to get rid of Team Rocket's Electrode Eliminator.

Katie used a Dugtrio against Ash during the Hoenn League in Shocks and Bonds. Katie's Dugtrio defeated Ash's Pikachu and was defeated by Ash's Glalie.

"A Mole Pokémon. It has three heads that seem to all think the same thing. It lives in caves and is skilled at digging--no matter how hard the ground is, it can dig up to 62 miles below the surface. ==Trivia==
* Dugtrio and its pre-evolution can learn Scratch, Slash, Fury Swipes, Shadow Claw, and Cut (from Yellow onwards) despite not seeming to have hands or claws, and Aerial Ace, despite never appearing to leave the ground.
* Dugtrio and its evolutionary line share the same species name with Drilbur. They are all known as Mole Pokémon.
* Up until , Dugtrio and Diglett could only be caught in Diglett's Cave.
* Dugtrio is the fastest Ground Pokémon.
* In the Pokéathlon, Dugtrio and Diglett are seen to go underground rather than physically jump out of the ground in the Hurdle Dash.
* In Black and White, when Dugtrio and Diglett are sent out, they merely fade onto the screen instead of dropping down<!--even those that fly or levitate go down--> like all other Pokémon.
* In the Poké Transfer, Dugtrio and Diglett run between bushes rather than jump.
*Like many Pokémon, Dugtrio's shiny formation shows a blue nose, while if shininess would have been available in the Generation I games, nothing would have happened, because in those games, his/her body was entirely brown.

Origin
Dugtrio appears to be very similar to the artificial moles used in the Whac-A-Mole arcade games.

Name origin
Dugtrio's name is a combination of dug, the past tense of dig, and trio, meaning three.
