Pokémon Shipwreck (Japanese: ポケモンひょうりゅうき Pokémon Adrift) is the 16th episode of the Pokémon anime. It was first broadcast in Japan on July 15, 1997 and in the United States on September 29, 1998.
Synopsis
After the events of the previous episode, the S.S. Anne overturned and sank into the sea, taking Ash, his friends and Team Rocket down as well. The next morning, a police ship pulls up at the location. Officer Jenny gives a short speech to commemorate the missing characters, presumed dead. She tosses a bouquet of white flowers into the sea of debris as a memorial. Jenny and the other officers salute, and one plays the trumpet as the flowers sink underwater.

Meanwhile, Misty, Brock and Pikachu call to Ash to wake him up. Ash wonders why everyone seems upside down, but he is really the one upside down because his jacket is caught on a fixed table. He falls off the table and lands on top of Pikachu. Misty points to the porthole and Ash looks out, noticing fish swimming. He realizes that the ship has sunk, the image panning out and showing the ship upside down atop a seamount, positioned at the mouth of a trench.

The scene shifts to a tropical beach, where Jessie and James are getting a tan. They recite their motto as they enjoy the sun's rays. As they do, the light intensity grows until James feels himself burning, then Jessie as well. They are actually dreaming, and MTR wakes them up. Jessie and James are under stoves, the burners of which are bathing them in fire. Jessie and James jump out, both with burning hair, as they run to broken pipes, putting out the fire under a blast of water. They run out into the hall and notice everything upside down. Meowth informs them that the ship capsized and sank. James panics as Jessie brings out Jessie. She orders it to use Acid to open a hole in the floor. Meowth tries to stop her, but is too late.. the attack opens a hole, through which water begins to shoot as the ship rumbles. Jessie and James try to block the jet of water, but fail, as the water fills the hall and washes Team Rocket away.

Meanwhile, Ash and his friends head out into the stairwell, the water level preventing them from going to the deck. Misty notes that the ship will take time to fill with water, but time is still critical. Ash wants to dive down to the deck, but Brock says that it could be dangerous. Ash realizes he is right, as he has a vision of running into a locked hatch and drowning. Misty sends out her Misty to scout the hall. It swims down and finds a dead end, but runs into Team Rocket, who is unconscious.

As Ash and co. wait for Goldeen, James’s head pops out of the surface, scaring them. Goldeen then comes into view as it pushes Team Rocket, who are blue in the face from nearly drowning, up onto the deck. Jessie and James regain consciousness and stand up, ready to battle. They send out Ekans and James as Ash and Brock send out Charmander, Squirtle, Bulbasaur and Brock. Before any of them can launch an attack, the ship begins to tip, sending everyone sliding. Ash orders the Pokémon to go to the other side, but it causes the ship to tilt the other way. After sliding back and forth, Misty orders everyone to recall their Pokémon and forget the battle in order to survive. They do so and the ship regains balance.

Misty wants everyone to work together, but the sides are still divided. She orders everyone to shake hands. Jessie and Ash shake hands to form a temporary truce. James and Brock shake as well. Meowth and Pikachu shake, but Pikachu ThunderShock Meowth, earning him a quick scolding from Misty. With the truce, Misty points out that she knows the ship blueprints, because she has built a model of it before, and that they should go up to the bottom of the ship and cut through the hull to escape. They approach a staircase, and Brock sends out Brock to allow everyone to climb up.

The ship’s lights begin to fail as the group approaches a darkened portion of the hall. Ash brings out Charmander to light the way. They enter the next room and find it impossible to cross over to the engine room hatch due to the large gap and the raging fire below them. Ash has Pikachu shock him to get him to think. He then sends out Bulbasaur to use Vine Whip to create a bridge to the opposite hatch. Ash and his friends begin to slowly cross the vines, but James is too scared to cross, begging Jessie and Meowth to go on and leave him behind. Jessie slaps him and helps him regain his composure, but Ash and his friends are already across. Jessie orders Bulbasaur to send back the vines.

Everyone makes it safely to the engine room, though Team Rocket is virtually exhausted. Ash brings out Charmander to use Flamethrower to cut an opening through the hull. Misty informs everyone to strap onto a Water Pokémon, but Team Rocket doesn't have one. The hull opens and water pours in. Ash recalls Charmander, who is running from the water. Ash and Pikachu strap onto Squirtle while Misty gets Goldeen and Brock gets Misty. While Ash and his friends swim into the waterfall and escape to the surface, Team Rocket is still stranded. James suddenly starts snickering, as he reveals the golden Poké Ball holding his Magikarp, which has proved useful after all. Team Rocket straps onto Magikarp and attempt to escape, but they find that Magikarp can't swim. The water picks up and washes the ship into the trench, leaving Team Rocket's fate unknown.

Ash and co. climb onto a makeshift platform, noticing Team Rocket hasn't yet made it to the surface. Ash looks out to sea and is unable to spot any land. Brock brings up the story of Noah's Ark sending out a bird to search for land and Ash does the same thing by sending Pidgeotto out to scout. Pidgeotto flies out and finds Team Rocket on the surface, still attached to the splashing Magikarp. Pidgeotto brings them back to the platform, and Ash and his friends presume that they have passed on. They attempt to push them back into the sea as a traditional burial, but Jessie and James wake up just in time. Ash and his friends are startled at first, thinking they are zombies. Meowth, who was pushed into the sea, struggles to swim as it climbs back onto the platform. Pikachu snaps its fingers, visibly frustrated that Meowth is alive.

The two groups have no choice but to stay on the platform for the night. They wake up the next day and all are starving. Everyone looks at Magikarp and daydream of eating the helpless Pokémon. Meowth makes the first move and bites it, but Meowth breaks its teeth since Magikarp is just scales and bones. The fact that Magikarp isn't even good for food angers James enough that he kicks the fish Pokémon off the platform, not wanting to be its master. The Pokémon begins to flash as it evolves into List of Pokémon temporarily owned by Team Rocket. Ash checks his Pokédex as James attempts to reclaim his role as master, but he is scared. Misty sends out Goldeen, Misty and Starmie. Brock thinks she will battle it, but she only plans to run away, with the Water Pokémon pulling the platform as everyone else attempts to row. Gyarados stays in hot pursuit, but suddenly stops. They think it is tired, but Misty remembers Sailor stories about Gyarados’s Dragon Rage attack. The waves pick up as more Gyarados appear. They swim in a circle, forming a powerful water cyclone. The Gyarados advance towards the raft. Brock urges everyone to flee again, but Misty says that nobody has ever survived the attack before. The attack sends everyone spiraling into the cyclone. Ash and his friends try to hold together, but they lose grip and spiral out of control.
Trivia
* PM-16 was the name of the ship on which the memorial service was held. The initials appear to stand for Pocket Monsters and the number corresponds with the episode number.
* Much of the episode parodies or references The Poseidon Adventure (film).
* Brock makes a reference to Noah's Ark.
* Real fish are seen once again in this episode.
* In the engine room scene, James refers to Jessie as Jessica.
* The narrator makes a reference to the RMS Titanic, a luxury liner that sank in the Atlantic Ocean in 1912.
* This is the first time that Ash and friends and Team Rocket have to work together.
* This episode marks the first time a Pokémon (aside from a Caterpie, Metapod, or Kakuna, who appear to evolve differently than other Pokémon) is shown to evolve.
* Though Misty never returned her Goldeen, Staryu and Starmie to their Poké Balls when the Gyarados attacked the raft, they were not lost.
*The book Island of the Giant Pokémon is based on this episode.
*Right before the "Who's that Pokémon?" Ash abandoned Team Rocket on the other side of the ship by getting rid of the vines; however, after the "Who's that Pokémon?" Team Rocket is with the gang and the audience never sees what happened.
*When Charmander burns through the hull of the ship, Meowth yells "Are you crazy? We're gonna die!", a rare reference to death in the series.
*During the scene when the Pokémon are going back and forth to balance out the ship, Ash yells for all the Pokémon to run to the other side, including Koffing, who floats through the air, and wouldn't have added any weight to the ship anyway. Furthermore Geodude is often seen floating through the air in other episodes so it's likely Geodude could have simply floated as well.

Errors
* When Ash and co. get hit by Gyarados' Dragon Rage, Team Rocket yells 「やなかんじ！」 "Yana Kanji!" "Bad Feeling!" in their Japanese voices, which is the Japanese equivalent of "Team Rocket is blasting off again!".
* During the scene when the Pokémon are running back and forth to give the ship more balance, Brock yells for Geodude to come back, part of Ekans can be seen to the left of Brock, even though Ekans just went to the other side.
**On a related note, after Brock tells Geodude to come back, the scene moves outside the ship for a few seconds, and then back in, and when it returns to the inside, Geodude is on the same side as all the other Pokémon, when it should be with Brock.
* When James shows Jessie and Meowth the gold-plated Poké Ball containing the Magikarp he bought in the last episode, the ball doesn't have scratch marks anymore (Meowth had scratched the front of the ball out of anger at James in the previous episode).

Dub edits
* The Titanic reference was in the dub only.
* The scene where Misty tells them to retrieve their Pokémon is slightly different between the two versions. The original version had Misty threatening Team Rocket that if they don't return their Pokémon, she'll throw them into the water. In the dub, she states "What's more important? A Pokémon battle or your life?"
* The part where Jessie and James mention their being "good dressers" was actually a "they'll never forget each other" in the original version.
:* Also, Misty states she doesn't want to die in the Japanese version.
:** Jessie also mentions that if James doesn't come with them, he'll definitely die down there in the original version.
* When Ash and co. mention their condolences when they are about to put the seemingly-drowned Team Rocket into the sea as a funeral, they also mentioned the fact that they regretted the way Team Rocket died in the original version.
* Originally, the scene where Gyarados evolved had Misty saying that she heard about Magikarp evolving into Gyarados.
Battle Aboard the St. Anne (Japanese: サントアンヌごうのたたかい！ Battle of the St. Anne!) is the 15th episode of the Pokémon anime. It was first broadcast in Japan on July 8, 1997. It aired in the United States as the first dubbed episode on September 7, 1998, and later aired in-sequence on September 28, 1998.
spoilers

Synopsis
After earning the Thunder, Ash and his friends walk across a bridge and spot a luxury liner in the distance. The group takes a closer look at the ship and they want to get on board, but Brock mentions that they cannot afford it, so they walk away sullen. However, Jessie and James, in disguise as ganguro girls, give them tickets to get on board to participate in a Pokémon Trainer party on board the St. Anne. While they look for the luxury liner, Jessie and James head to a nearby lighthouse to meet up with MTR. Meowth opens up a call with Giovanni and Meowth notices a Giovanni hugging up to the boss, replacing Meowth due to the group’s constant failure. Team Rocket reveals the plan about the party being a ruse to allow Team Rocket to steal Pokémon.

Ash and his friends get on board the ship and head into the main ballroom, noticing all the people, Pokémon and merchandise. Ash notices a battle between a Starmie and a Raticate. Raticate uses Super Fang to break Starmie's jewel, giving Raticate the win. Ash decides to step forward to challenge the Gentleman, sending Butterfree out. Raticate attacks with Hi Jump Kick, but Butterfree counts with Tackle. Raticate uses Hyper Fang, but Butterfree uses Stun Spore to Paralysis it. Ash prepares to finish the duel, but the Gentleman recalls his Raticate and declares it a draw even though Ash was winning. Meanwhile, James walks by the vendors. A salesman calls him over and convinces him to buy a Magikarp, thinking that the Pokémon is worth a lot of money.

The ship sails out of Vermilion City as Ash and his friends chow down. The Gentleman comes up to Ash and commends his Butterfree. He proposes a trade between his Raticate and Ash's Butterfree. Ash asks Brock if he should go through with it, but Brock is too attracted to the woman next to him, so Ash goes through with the trade. They go to a trade machine and execute the trade. Ash acquires Raticate while the man gets Butterfree. Jessie and Meowth confront James about buying the weak Magikarp. James tells them that it's a "gold mine" Pokémon, even its Poké Ball is gold, but Meowth scratches it showing James that it's spray painted gold. Jessie asks James how he afforded that, and James reveals that the advance on his salary was to low so he took Jessie’s salary advance to buy it, which makes her angry and she runs after him and forces him to return the Magikarp. Meanwhile, Misty finds Ash looking out at sea, having second doubts about the trade and unsure if Butterfree will be taken care off. He mentions that as the trade was happening, he remembered the experiences he shared with Butterfree.

Team Rocket's plan goes into motion, the ballroom being locked down and Team Rocket Grunts confronting the Trainers. The grunts use vacuums to capture the Poké Balls. When one of the grunts walks up to Ash and demands his Pokémon, Ash orders Pikachu to attack the thugs with ThunderShock. He spurs the other Trainers to fight back, everyone sending out Pokémon. Ash’s Pikachu, Charmander, Bulbasaur and Brock's Geodude join with other Pokémon in stopping the Team Rocket thugs. Ash notices a Butterfree swarm attacking with Stun Spore and decides to summon his Butterfree. However, the Poké Ball reveals his Raticate as Misty reminds him that he traded Butterfree. As he watches, Ash deeply misses his Butterfree, remembering his experiences with it and wanting it back.

Ash sends out Pidgeotto to join others in a group Gust attack. The Pikachu group uses Thunderbolt to send Team Rocket flying off the ship and foiling the attack. However, the ship has sailed directly into a storm, strong waves battering the ship. James drops the Poké Ball holding Magikarp and runs after it. Meanwhile, Ash finds the man and requests the trade reversed. The man agrees and executes a reverse trade. The captain tries to call the passengers and assures them that the ship is unsinkable. Another wave crashes against the ship as the captain goes down in a lifeboat. The passengers quickly scramble onto the lifeboats to evacuate. Misty and Brock find Ash finishing the trade. Ash grabs his Poké Ball, but another wave causes him to drop it. Ash runs after it as his friends follow. Most of the passengers get off the ship safely. Ash grabs Butterfree’s Poké Ball as the ship rocks again, throwing Ash and his friends into another room and knocking them out. James gets Magikarp’s Poké Ball as another wave sends them flying against a wall, knocking them out as well. The ship capsizes and goes down as the captain assumes that everyone is safe, not knowing that Ash and his friends are on board, as well as Team Rocket.

Trivia
* When the episode aired as a sneak peek, it was not shown everywhere, as some areas ran the annual Labor Day Jerry Lewis MDA Telethon instead.
* This is the first episode in which Ash is seen making a Pokémon trade.
* This is the first episode in which Team Rocket members besides Jessie, James, and Meowth appear.
* While there wasn't an attack by Team Rocket on the ship in the games, an undercover Global Police officer mentions he is on the trail of Team Rocket, hinting that there may be an attack.
* While not in the episode itself, the preview for this episode from the previous episode had Ash directly referring to Giovanni by name, the only instance where one of the protagonists ever used his name.
* The St. Anne retains its Japanese name in the anime, despite being called the S.S. Anne in the games. This is probably due to the number of paint edits required to make the change, but actually prevents a future dub error when Ritchie is on a ship called the S.S. Anne in The Search for the Legend.
* The captain calling the St. Anne unsinkable and then capsizing is an obvious reference to the RMS Titanic. (Indeed, in the next episode, during the recap, the narrator says "Holy Titanic!")
* The scene where all the Pikachu are jumping over a wall to battle the Team Rocket soldiers is identical to the scene in Pokémon Emergency where the Pikachu are jumping over a wall in the Pokémon Center to battle Team Rocket.
* The button the Gentleman pressed to start the trade was a "record" button. There were also play, fast forward, and pause buttons.
*The book Island of the Giant Pokémon is based on this episode.

Errors
* Raticate uses Jump Kick in this episode, a move that can't be learned by Raticate in the games.
* During the battle between the Gentleman's Raticate and an unnamed Trainer's Starmie, the unnamed Trainer tells his Starmie to use an attack called "Spinning Tackle." An attack similar to Rapid Spin, a move that can be considered a spinning tackle. However, Rapid Spin wasn't introduced until Generation II.
** Also in this battle, the Gentleman has his Raticate use Super Fang to finish the battle. This move cannot cause a Pokémon to faint unless it has 1 HP remaining (though considering Starmie had previously taken damage from Raticate's Jump Kick, this may actually have been the case).
* In the scene where James is walking by the Magikarp salesman, the booth to the left of the Magikarp salesman's booth has a pyramid of normal colored Poké Balls on it. Later, in a scene where James is talking to the Magikarp salesman, the pyramid of Poké Balls is now gold.

Dub edits
* The scene with Giovanni talking with Jessie, James and Meowth was used in the VHS A Sneak Peek at Pokémon with alternate dialogue. Rather than discussing their plan, Giovanni tells them, that they need to capture Ash's Pikachu before various Pokémon merchandise (i.e. the anime, the comic books, video games and trading cards) is distributed in stores. Otherwise many people will be looking for Pikachu.
* In the original version, Ash calls the man to whom he trades his Butterfree a "gentleman."
While Ash and co. were wandering through the forest, he began bragging about his accomplishments, only to be shot down by Misty, who claimed all his Pokémon followed him, therefore he didn't really catch any of them. This angered Ash, who then ran off through the forest vowing to catch a seventh Pokémon, but legitimately this time. As he broke free of the forest, he found himself on a beach, too wrapped up in his own Pokémon thoughts to enjoy the beautiful sunset. While he was moping, he noticed a small Krabby scurrying between his feet. Upon insulting Krabby about its small size, Krabby challenges Ash to a battle. Not even bothering to call upon one of his Pokémon, Ash assaulted Krabby with a stick and then threw a Poké Ball and captured it. When the Poké Ball was transferred to Oak's lab, Ash began to panic about the whereabouts of his new Pokémon. Misty then informed him that Trainers can carry a maximum of six Pokémon with them at one time. Suddenly, Pikachu began jumping and looking at a distant object, and as the gang looked over they could make out the shape of a lighthouse on a cliff. Excited, they all ran off towards it.

By the time they arrived there, night has fallen and the long walk has made them exhausted. Ash rang the bell only to be greeted by an eerie ringing, and a "who's there?".

After Ash and co. explained their situation and Brock offered to cook the lighthouse keeper a bacon-double cheeseburger, they were granted entrance. But as the door swung open they found there is no one there to greet them. Ash asked out loud permission to use the lighthouse's phone, to which a reply was heard: "Yes, there's a phone right near you." The speaker of this voice was still unknown. Ash called Professor Oak to ask about his newly caught Krabby as he picked up, and the professor is shown cooking dinner. This worries Ash, because he thought the Professor was cooking his Krabby. Professor Oak assured him that his Krabby is safe, and added that Ash's Krabby would be "too small to make a hearty meal". Ash was enraged upon hearing that Gary has also caught a Krabby and is even more so when he saw how huge it is. Ash went berserk when he found out that Gary already caught 45 Pokémon, dwarfing Ash's mere 7. Oak told them that they are calling from Bill's Bill, and that he knows more than Oak himself, so listening to him would be good.

Suddenly, a giant Kabuto appeared, claiming to be the keeper of the lighthouse. It was revealed that it is in fact Bill who got stuck in a Pokémon suit during research, and Ash helped him out. After getting a life lesson from Bill and learning that there are more than 150 known Pokémon species, Bill revealed that there was only one Pokémon he is searching for what he claimed that is the biggest Pokémon ever. He said it is unique and that no one had ever laid eyes on it. One night he said, he heard a strange noise coming across the ocean from the Pokémon, but that was the last time he heard it.

As Bill was reminiscing, the same sound from his memory was heard and a large figure appeared, rising from the ocean. As it came closer, it was revealed to be the outline of a Dragonite. As it came closer to the lighthouse, Team Rocket was shown scaling the cliff and, upon seeing the giant Dragonite, began launching a barrage of missiles to try and catch it. This angered Dragonite, and it smashed the top of the lighthouse and began to walk away. Bill called out at it to stay, but to no avail.

In the morning, Bill seemed to be at peace with the fact that he didn't get to learn more about the Pokémon and was simply grateful he got to see it at all. With another life lesson from Bill, the heroes said goodbye and continued on their journey.
Trivia
* This episode confirms that, just like the games, a Pokémon Trainer can only carry six Pokémon at a time (which is at odds with the fact that Damian was seen with at least a dozen Poké Balls all supposedly containing Pokémon just two episodes earlier).
* At the end of the episode when Ash asks Bill if he thinks every species of Pokémon will ever be discovered, a Dragonite-shaped cloud can be seen.
* The dub has several running gags, including characters whose cooks are on vacation and they are reduced to eating tofu.
* Brock mentions in this episode that Trainers can switch the Pokémon in their party by pressing a button inside their Pokédex (suggesting that additional Pokémon are kept in computer storage similar to the games). However, this rule is immediately dropped and in future episodes Ash would have to call Professor Oak in order to switch the Pokémon in his party.
* Though the giant Dragonite is never identified as a Dragonite by anyone in this episode, including Bill, Dragonite is referred to by name in the following episode when Dexter says that a Lt. Surge's Thunderbolt could knock a Dragonite out.
* At the start of the episode, several unidentified Pokémon League badges are seen in the background.
* This is the first time that Ash and one of his rivals have a Pokémon of the same type of species. The second and third times were Tyson having a Sceptile and Morrison owning a Gligar, though none of them were at the same time as Ash. The fourth was for a very short time, with Ash and Paul having Starly, and the fifth time was when Ash's Gligar evolves to match Paul's Gliscor. The latest occurrence was Ash's Pidove's evolution into Tranquill, one of which is also owned by Trip, which is also seen in the same episode when Pidove evolves.
* The plot of this episode was likely based on the short story "The Fog Horn" by Ray Bradbury. In the story, a sea monster who is the only one left of its kind, hears a fog horn that sounds like its own voice and it is attracted to it.
* In this episode Bill is depicted as having green hair. This is the only time this is the case as he has brown hair in all of the games.
Errors
* An image of Mewtwo was on the door to the lighthouse, yet at this point in the series, Mewtwo's existence was presumably known only by Team Rocket scientists.
* When Team Rocket is discussing how they will break into the lighthouse, MTR's ears turn blue.
* In the dubbed version, when Misty tells Ash that all his Pokémon followed him, she is actually incorrect. Pikachu was given to him by Professor Oak, Butterfree (caught as a Caterpie) was a lucky catch, Bulbasaur and Pidgeotto were captured in a legitimate battle, while Squirtle and Charmander were the only ones that followed him. Ash further exemplifies this error by saying "Now I really caught one" after catching Krabby.
* When Bill starts saying the planet was created 4.6 billion years ago, Ash turns to look at Bill but the visor of his hat is white instead of the usual red.
* Bill says that the mystery Pokémon is the only one of its species. However, this is incorrect, and other characters such as Mewtwo, Lance and Drake have been shown to each own a different Dragonite.
** However, Bill may simply have meant it is the only one of its species to be a giant one.
* When Krabby pinches Ash's index finger, he pinches Ash's left index finger. But in the next shot, the wound appears on Ash's right index finger.
* When Bill shows the map of all the known Pokémon, the space between Marowak, Ninetales, Exeggcute, and (possibly) Rattata is blank.

Dub edits
* The way Misty retorted to Ash's bragging about how Ash "caught" all six of his Pokémon was different between the versions: In the original version, she questions how he got those Pokémon should be counted as "caught" or not, with Ash stating that it's close enough. The dubbed version she erroneously stated that all of his Pokémon just followed him.
* The speaker conversation between Brock and Bill is different between the two versions: in the original version, Brock asks if he can use his kitchen so he can make delicious tamago chaahan and nabe. Bill asks if he can also make yakisoba as well, which Brock responds that he can make that as well as katayaki, chow mein, sauce yakisoba, or anything else Bill might like, to which Bill responds he'd like katayaki, and lets them in. In the dubbed version, Brock asks him if he can use his kitchen to make cheeseburgers for his group. Bill asks if he can make anything without tofu, to which Brock responds he can. Bill gladly agrees to let them in since he hadn't eaten anything but tofu since his cook left for vacation.
* In the original version, Misty identifies the phone as resembling a Bellsprout; in the dubbed version, she doesn't. Also, Ash called Oak directly by his phone number in the Japanese version. In the dubbed version, he calls him via collect.
* In the original version, Professor Oak says that Ash caught him in the middle of cooking Nabe, while in the dubbed version, he mentions that he is making tofu to make the time while his cook is on vacation.
** Also, the dubbed version implies that Bill and Oak dislike eating tofu. In the original version, they imply that they enjoy eating tofu.
The Summer Academy
So Kenji, I got a bunch of pictures of all the wild Pokémon around the Pokémon Summer Academy and I'm going to add the template to the page. I have a question about the Ghost-types that appear around the area, however. Should I place the list of Ghost-types in the Pokémon Academy page itself, or in the Summit Ruins, since they were in the woods around it? Here I am again, asking your opinion on a move. In Victini and the black hero, Reshiram uses Flamethrower when it first reveals itself to Ash and co, well, I listed it as Flamethrower, but the flame was much bigger than when Emboar used it earlyer in the movie and their were flames swirling off of it. ==History==

Delia Ketchum is a relatively reserved woman. Despite striking some as unintelligent, she was once a student of Professor Oak, along with Spencer Hale, possibly indicating intelligence normally unthought of her.

She lives in Pallet Town with Mimey, a Mr. Mime, which she befriended in It's Mr. Mime Time. She was seen taking care of it while Ash was participating in the Ever Grande Conference. Delia also traveled with Ash to the Unova region in In The Shadow of Zekrom!.

Her husband was mentioned in Pokémon Emergency! as a Trainer still on his journey. However, he has yet to appear onscreen.

According to Takeshi Shudō's novelization, she runs Pallet Town's only restaurant, Pallet House, which she inherited from her mother. When she was younger, she dreamed of becoming both a model and a Pokémon Trainer, but abandoned those dreams to run the restaurant after Ash was born. Brock once commented that she would make a great Pokémon Trainer because of her perseverance.

She is usually a quiet, cheerful woman, but when angered, she makes it known, not caring who she is talking to, once telling Entei he should be ashamed of himself in Spell of the Unown.
