==Synopsis==
{{Ash}} and {{ashfr|friends}} have stopped to rest at a mountain stream. All of the Pokémon are in the water, having a good time. {{an|Brock}} is brushing {{TP|Brock|Vulpix}}'s tail. The scene shifts to {{an|Misty}} talking to {{TP|Misty|Togepi}} about how good the water feels. {{TP|Misty|Poliwhirl}} drifts by on its back, and Misty tells it not to drift too far. Poliwhirl waves okay, but all of a sudden a huge {{p|Poliwrath}} comes up behind Poliwhirl. Misty comments on how tough it looks, and Brock says that it doesn't look too friendly. The Poliwrath smacks down Poliwhirl and then uppercuts it through the air. Poliwhirl lands by the bank, K.O'd. Misty comments on how it's nothing but a big bully. All of a sudden, a [[Andreas|boy]] appears out of nowhere and insults her Poliwhirl. Misty asks him if the Poliwrath is his, and why it attacked her Poliwhirl. The boy answers that he thought it was a wimp. Misty tells him to take it back, but the boy questions her by saying that Poliwhirl is so scared that it's hiding behind Misty. He finishes by saying that he can't expect much from a "plain old Poliwhirl" and says that if it was any good, it would have [[Evolution|evolved]]. Brock defends Poliwhirl by saying that there are lots of great Pokémon that aren't fully evolved, and that Poliwhirl is a great Pokémon. The boy starts making fun of all of Misty's Pokémon, and Misty loses it and challenges him to a battle. The boy says that he'd love to, but already has other plans. He recalls Poliwrath and leaves, but not without telling Misty to work on her Poliwhirl.

After this, the gang starts walking down a trail. They eventually come across a large mass of people with fishing rods walking in the same direction. Ash asks a boy if there is a good fishing spot nearby and the boy responds that there is an annual {{p|Seaking}} [[Seaking Catching Day|Catching Competition]].

At the site of the actual event, a man onstage starts to explain the rules of the competition. Competitors are allowed to use any rod, reel, or lure they wish and can catch as many Seaking as they want in the allotted time. However, they are only allowed to enter one Seaking that was caught in the provided {{DL|Poké Ball|Other variants|Lake Ball}}. The Seaking will then be weighed, and the heaviest one will win a huge trophy and a year's supply of chocolate bars. Competitors are only allowed to use one Pokémon to aid them in catching the Seaking, and it must be registered. Ash comments how it is similar to the [[Azalea Town]] [[Bug-Catching Contest]], and decides to use Pikachu.

The boy who insulted Misty's Poliwhirl is also entering the contest, and sends out his Poliwrath. He tells the check-in person that his name is Andreas. The entire crowd starts whispering to each other about how he amazing he is and that he has won every contest that he has entered. They also say that no one can beat him. Andreas says that the crowd must know a winner when they see one, which angers Misty. She says that she is going to beat him at his own game. Brock tells her that Andreas is a tough opponent, and Misty says that she's been fishing with her sisters ever since she was a baby and that her {{type2|Water}} Pokémon are perfect for the competition.

At the registration desk, Misty registers with Poliwhirl and Ash with Pikachu. Brock begins to flirt with the registration lady, but Misty quickly drags Brock away. At the docks, all the competitors are in their boats and waiting to begin. Brock asks Ash and Misty if they're all ready. They respond yes as Andreas pulls up. He insults Misty and her Poliwhirl again. Misty says that Poliwhirl isn't weak just because it isn't a bully like him. Andreas laughs at her and says that he'd love to talk, but he has a competition to win. He then drives off.

The horn blows and the competition has begun. Ash and Misty both cast out. Misty tells Poliwhirl that it'll probably take a while. She then hears Andreas yell that he already has a bite, to Misty's dismay. He pulls the Seaking out of the water and has Poliwrath use {{m|DoubleSlap}} on it. Andreas then catches it with his Lake Ball. Brock says that Andreas must have a lot of experience, but Misty says that he just got lucky. Andreas then releases the Seaking that he just caught, much to Ash and Misty's surprise. He tells them that that one was just a warm-up, and the next one they catch will be really big. This angers Misty even more.

Meanwhile, {{TRT}} is in a boat. {{MTR}} says that if they win the contest then they will get a year's supply of chocolate bars. James says that they haven't eaten in so long that he'd settle for licking the wrappers. Jessie shows them her new lure, saying that no Seaking can resist it. After some time, Meowth yawns and complains that they've been sitting there for an hour and maybe her lure is scaring off all the Seaking. Jessie gets angry and says that the Seaking obviously don't appreciate her beauty. Jessie then says that if Seaking won't go for a beautiful lure, then they'll go for an ugly lure; a Meowth lure. Meowth says that he didn't know she has a Meowth lure and asks to see it. She pops a breather in his mouth, ties him to a rock, and throws him in, telling him to use {{m|Scratch}} when he sees a Seaking. Underwater, Meowth complains that he doesn’t like it and that he can't see any Seaking. One swims past him and he yells at it to come back, but it ignores him. Suddenly, Misty's line wraps around Meowth's arm and pulls him up. Jessie pulls back, turning it into a tug of war match with Meowth in the middle. Underwater, the rock tied to Meowth gets stuck to the bottom, immobilizing him. As if that wasn't bad enough, he then loses his breather. The two boats are being dragged towards each other, and finally they collide.

Back underwater, Meowth is drowning. He uses {{m|Fury Swipes}} to free himself and swims to the surface. Team Rocket drives away and Misty sees that her line is broken. Andreas drives by and mocks her on her performance. He tells her that she could take home first prize in a fishing rod catching competition, angering Misty yet again. Meanwhile, Meowth gets back on Team Rocket's boat, saying that that was a bad idea.

Misty observes that the wind has changed direction. She explains that it also changes where the Seaking will swim, and that they'd better change their position. Brock moves the boat further north because that's where all the Seaking will be. Andreas speeds towards the same place.

Misty says that if Andreas gets there first, then he'll catch the biggest Seaking. She then takes over the boat from Brock, speeding it up. She and Andreas start racing. They get into a bumping fight and are speeding towards unsuspecting Team Rocket. Brock tells Misty to turn and try avoiding their boat, but Andreas uses it as a ramp and flies right over them. The wave he makes when landing flips them over.

The gang arrives at a giant rock. Misty says that it looks like a perfect spot for fishing, but Andreas is already there. Ash gets a bite and pulls up a big Seaking. He commands {{AP|Pikachu}} to use {{m|Thunderbolt}} on it, and catches it in a Lake Ball. Misty and Brock compliment him on his capture.

Andreas then gets a bite as well. He has Poliwrath get ready and then pulls it out. Poliwrath uses {{m|Mega Punch}} on Seaking, followed by DoubleSlap. Seaking flies out of the water and Andreas catches it, bragging that it is a guaranteed winner. The loudspeakers come on and the voice says that only ten minutes are left in the competition. As Andreas is driving away, he says that if Misty wants a chance at second place then she better hurry. Misty announces that it's time to use her secret weapon, which is [[Misty's special lure]], version 4. She throws out her lure and waits intently, and a giant Seaking bites it. It almost pulls her in, but she manages to pull it out of the water. She sends out Poliwhirl, but it gets slapped by Seaking's tail. Poliwhirl flies back and bounces off the boat. Poliwhirl bounces back and DoubleSlaps the Seaking. Misty catches it in her Lake Ball, as the buzzer rings, announcing the end of the contest. Team Rocket, having not caught a Seaking, walk away with only a commemorative badge. The announcer weighs Andreas's Seaking, which weighs 55 kilograms, and Andreas brags that he's number one once more. Suddenly, Misty arrives, yelling for the judge to wait. They weigh her Seaking, which turns out to weigh the same as Andreas's, meaning that the two of them must face off in [[Pokémon battle]] to determine the winner. Misty sends out Poliwhirl while Andreas sends out Poliwrath. Brock comments that the odds are against Misty. Just as the battle begins, Team Rocket descend from the sky in their balloon. Jessie sends Meowth out on a fishing pole, and he starts bagging all the chocolate. Misty commands Poliwhirl to attack it with {{m|Water Gun}} and Andreas commands Poliwrath to do the same, causing Meowth to drop the bag. Ash sends out {{TP|Ash|Bulbasaur}} and has it use {{m|Vine Whip}} to catch the falling chocolate. With the chocolate safe, Ash has Pikachu give them a Thunderbolt, sending them blasting off again.

The battle resumes, and Andreas has his Poliwrath use {{m|Submission}}, which sends Poliwhirl flying. Brock explains to Ash that after a Poliwhirl evolves, it can use {{type2|Fighting}} moves. Andreas says that he's won, but Poliwhirl gets back up and hides behind Misty's leg. Misty says that she knows it's doing its best but wishes that it had more confidence in itself. {{TP|Misty|Psyduck}}, {{TP|Misty|Staryu}}, and {{tp|Misty|Goldeen}} pop out of their Poké Balls, and Misty tells Poliwhirl that there are lots of great unevolved Pokémon, and that it's one too. Poliwhirl is pumped up and ready to get back in the battle. Andreas says that it's no use, but Misty has Poliwhirl use {{m|Bubble}} and then follow up with Mega Punch. Poliwrath falls, but Andreas has it use Mega Punch as well. Poliwhirl dodges it and uses Bubble again, followed by a Water Gun that KO's Poliwrath. Misty and Poliwhirl are dancing, and she tells it she knew it wasn't a wimp. Andreas pulls Poliwrath out of the water and congratulates Misty on a job well done. He then apologizes for the things he said, and Misty accepts his apology.

At the end of the episode, Misty is sending her chocolate bars out. She gives some to her [[The Sensational Sisters|sisters]], [[Brock's siblings|Brock's family]], {{an|Professor Oak}}, {{Tracey}}, and {{Delia|Ash's mom}}, while keeping a few for her and Togepi, causing Ash to complain that he didn't get any.

Lickitung was first mentioned by Jessie in [[EP049|''So Near, Yet So Farfetch'd'']]; however, she did not capture it for another three episodes where it first appeared and had its most central role in ''[[EP052|Princess vs. Princess]]'' (the episode in which Jessie caught it was originally scheduled to appear before ''So Near, Yet So Farfetch'd''). Lickitung was Jessie's forgotten weapon in the finals of the Queen of the Princesses contest against {{an|Misty}}. After stunningly defeating a borrowed {{AP|Pikachu}}, {{AP|Bulbasaur}} and {{TP|Brock|Vulpix}} with its effective {{m|Lick}}, Lickitung was defeated by {{TP|Misty|Psyduck}} after ignoring Jessie's 'Tackle' command, ending Jessie's run in the contest.

Jessie used Lickitung rather sparingly for the rest of its time under her possession, making the pink Pokémon her second option, after {{TP|Jessie|Arbok}}. Thus, it was one of the least used Pokémon that was owned by a main character. It most often appeared alongside Arbok, {{TP|James|Weezing}} and {{TP|James|Victreebel}} when Jessie and [[James]] used all four of their Pokémon in battle.

Lickitung, much like James's Victreebel, showed its affection for its {{pkmn|Trainer}} rather openly. Lickitung licked Jessie's face on several occasions, but not nearly as many times as the running gag of Victreebel latching onto James' head.

In ''[[EP146|Tricks of the Trade]]'', Lickitung was accidentally traded by Jessie to a Trainer named {{jo|Benny}} for his {{TP|Jessie|Wobbuffet}} during a commotion at the Pokémon Swap Meet. As Team Rocket's scheme to steal Pokémon with a rigged trading device is discovered by the crowd, Lickitung's [[Poké Ball]] was dropped into the trading machine when Jessie was knocked backwards by [[Magikarp salesman]] who was escaping James, and is swapped with Benny's Poké Ball already in the machine; the person Benny had been planning to trade with had changed his mind at the last minute. Jessie soon realized the trade when she sent Lickitung out to battle {{Ash}}, and the passive Wobbuffet emerged instead.

Lickitung was seen living happily with Benny towards the end of this episode, and Benny tells Ash and friends to "thank the lady who traded him Lickitung". However, there is no indication that Ash and his friends ever identified the Lickitung as Jessie's old Pokémon, nor that Jessie's new Wobbuffet was originally Benny's. Lickitung and Benny have not been seen since in the anime.

Jessie obtained Wobbuffet in the episode ''[[EP146|Tricks of the Trade]]'' after accidentally trading her {{TP|Jessie|Lickitung}} for it, with Wobbuffet's previous trainer, a boy named {{jo|Benny}} who had trained Wobbuffet hard but wanted to try training a new Pokémon.

Even though Jessie often seemed annoyed with Wobbuffet, she was shown to truly care for it. This is showcased in a handful of episodes, including ''[[AG113|Who What When Where Wynaut]]'', in which Wobbuffet temporarily went missing. Jessie was very worried and desperately went searching for it on the island. Another instance was in ''[[DP173|Dealing With a Fierce Double Ditto Drama!]]'' where Jessie was upset at [[James]]'s idea to send Wobbuffet to {{an|Giovanni}} since they couldn't tell it apart from [[Narissa]]'s {{p|Ditto}}. Wobbuffet also seems to care for her deeply, although its loyalty has sometimes been in question, such as in ''[[AG146|Fear Factor Phony]]'', Wobbuffet ran away from the group after the fake ghost made by some Ghost Pokémon scared it off. While it was running scared, it saw a {{p|Kirlia}} dancing and fell in love with it. When Team Rocket caught {{AP|Pikachu}} and Kirlia, Wobbuffet jumped into the mecha after it and broke the Kirlia and its Psychic Pokémon friends free from Team Rocket's capture. Entirely thanks to Wobbuffet, Team Rocket's operation was completely ruined.

Wobbuffet usually served as a comic relief character. It would emerge from its [[Poké Ball]] frequently and often at inappropriate times. Since the episode ''[[EP149|Tunnel Vision]]'', Wobbuffet had its place in the [[Team Rocket motto]], first before Meowth (which usually left it very upset) and some episodes later, right after [[Meowth (Team Rocket)|Meowth]]. It could often be heard crying out subsequent to the "Team Rocket is blasting off again!" line, even if it was not out of its Poké Ball when the team was sent blasting off. Wobbuffet was thus somewhat a fourth team member.

Ash's main goal in life, as described in [[EP001|the first episode]], is to be the world's greatest [[Pokémon master|Pokémon Master]]. Ash began his journey at the age of 10 as a warm-hearted and well-intentioned but stubborn, rash and amateurish [[Pokémon Trainer]]. He was forced to accept the cheeky {{AP|Pikachu}} from {{an|Professor Oak}} as his [[starter Pokémon]] because he carelessly broke his alarm clock in his sleep and woke up late on the day he was set to get his first Pokémon. He was determined to achieve his goal, however, and when Pikachu saw that he was willing to compromise his own safety to keep it safe he formed a strong bond of friendship with Pikachu. This would set his course for the future.

However, from that point, Ash still had a lot to learn about becoming a Trainer. The [[Ash's Butterfree|first Pokémon]] he {{pkmn2|caught}}, was caught by luck, as he knew absolutely nothing about [[Pokémon battle|battling]], and was hesitant to admit it whenever he was wrong. Many of his first [[Gym]] [[badge]]s were given to him merely out of gratitude for his assistance rather than claiming an actual victory in battle over the [[Gym Leader]]s; of his first five Gym battles, only his victory over [[Lt. Surge]] was an actual victory. Every time he thought he was doing well, he would somehow cross paths with his childhood [[rival]], [[Gary Oak]]. He always reminded Ash that he was always a step or seven behind, with Gary catching around forty-five Pokémon by the time Ash had only caught his {{AP|seventh|Kingler}}. This hampered matters further when, owing to his inexperience, his {{AP|Charizard}}, his most powerful Pokémon, refused to listen to him until [[EP105|Ash could prove himself]] to the powerful Fire-type.

Over time, Ash's dedication to his goal paid off. After earning his first eight badges he went on to compete in the [[Indigo League]], advancing to the fifth round - one further than Gary, and ending up in the top 16. Ash has changed a great deal over the course of the series, particularly in regards to his skill at [[Pokémon training]], but his earnestness, rashness, and determination have remained. Never straying from his goal, he has remained loyal to {{ashfr|his friends}}, his family, and his supporters, but most of all his Pokémon. Ash became a great Trainer by learning to find and use the inner strength of each of his Pokémon by bonding with them. For example, when he received a banner filled with prints from his Pokémon in ''[[AG187|The Unbeatable Lightness of Seeing!]]'', he knew which Pokémon placed specific prints, showing his close bond with them. He also learns where their hidden abilities lie, as well as resorting to unorthodox strategies when fighting particularly challenging opponents. For example, he uses his Pikachu's speed to outmaneuver larger foes and attack. In another instance, his {{AP|Charizard}} defeated [[Gary's Blastoise]] by causing the field to overheat before mounting a close-quarters attack while Blastoise was blinded by the steam. He also prefers to train a Pokémon to be the best it can without forcing it to [[Evolution|evolve]], as evidenced by his treatment of {{AP|Gligar|Gliscor}} in ''[[DP085|Fighting Fear With Fear!]]''. Early on, Ash originally trained not to further himself but instead to catch more Pokémon than Gary. He later slowed his pace which allowed him to focus on the individual traits of each Pokémon. At the [[Johto]] League [[Silver Conference]], with great humility and maturity, Ash finally won a battle against his old rival, signifying a great milestone in his history. His maturity has also increased in his dealings with Pokémon. This is shown when [[Ash's Primeape|a Mankey]] stole his {{AP|hat}} in ''[[EP025|Primeape Goes Bananas]]'', he screamed and yelled at it, even climbing trees just to get his hat back, but when [[Dawn's Ambipom|an Aipom]] did the same in ''[[AG179|Slaking Kong]]'', he stated merely that he would feel strange without a hat. He has traversed much of the [[Pokémon world]] and has thus far participated in four [[Pokémon League#Championship competitions|Pokémon League regional competitions]], but he is still learning new things about Pokémon all the time.

Ash has gained a close connection with many [[legendary Pokémon]], including {{an|Mewtwo}}, {{an|Ho-Oh}}, {{OBP|Lugia|movie 2}}, {{OBP|Latias|movie 5}}, {{DL|Lake guardians (anime)|Azelf}}, {{OBP|Shaymin|movie 11}}, {{an|Giratina}}, {{an|Arceus}}, {{OBP|Victini|movie 14}}, {{OBP|Reshiram|movie 14}} and {{OBP|Zekrom|movie 14}}. In the English dub of the [[M02|second movie]], he was revealed to be "The Chosen One" - the one who would bring balance back to the world when it was disrupted. Although viewed as a normal human, Ash does have some special abilities, as he is said to have the same [[aura]] as [[Sir Aaron]], a legendary hero, and is theoretically able to manipulate it in much the same way. Therefore, he made a connection with Sir Aaron's {{mov|Lucario|Lucario|8}}. However, he has not received any training in this field, opting to continue his Pokémon journey instead. He has also been likened to an ancient aura guardian in ''[[DP056|The Keystone Pops!]]'', who also had a partner {{p|Pikachu}}. Later, in ''[[DP071|Pokémon Ranger and the Kidnapped Riolu! Parts 1]]'' and ''[[DP072|2]]'', Ash uses aura again to locate a lost {{p|Riolu}} and read Riolu's mind as well.

Ash has also participated in contests. He has a [[Contest Pass]] for the [[Sinnoh]] region, as well as one for the Hoenn region as it was required to watch one of the contests held there. Ash carries half of a broken [[Poké Ball]] with him everywhere, while Gary has the other half, as a symbol of their ongoing, but now friendly, rivalry; [[Misty's special lure]], which she sent to him as a gift; and half of a ribbon he received in a contest against May before she left the group to compete in Johto. Ash also participated in the [[Wallace Cup]] on the suggestion of [[Wallace]] but he lost in the third round.

Ash soon obtained all of the Sinnoh Gym badges. During his battles in the [[Lily of the Valley Conference]], he managed to advance to the Top 4, during which time he defeated his long-time Sinnoh rival [[Paul]] for the first time, and fought against [[Tobias]], becoming the only known Trainer to defeat his {{p|Darkrai}}. Though he lost later on in the battle, he seems to be okay with losing, as he has become closer to his Pokémon than ever before. Ash, {{an|Dawn}}, and Brock then set off on their own paths to follow their respective dreams, with Brock saying he will no longer be joining Ash on his next journey.

In the {{series|Best Wishes}}, Ash came with Professor Oak and his mom on a trip to the [[Unova]] region. After losing in a battle to [[Trip]] and seeing the power of the legendary {{p|Zekrom}}, Ash became interested in traveling Unova to meet new Pokémon, as well as new friends. He is now currently in journey in [[Unova]], first bringing along only his Pikachu as he did in Hoenn.

Ash competed in the [[Club Battle]] in ''[[BW039|Reunion Battles In Nimbasa!]]''-''[[BW042|The Club Battle Finale: A Heroes Outcome!]]''. He battled against [[Burgundy]] and her {{p|Stoutland}} in the first round and won using his {{AP|Palpitoad}}. He then battled [[Georgia]] and her {{p|Pawniard}} in ''[[BW040|Cilan Versus Trip, Ash Versus Georgia!]]''. Ash used his {{AP|Snivy}}. Although she struggled at first, Snivy managed to defeat Pawniard and advance Ash to the next round. Next, in ''[[BW042|The Club Battle Finale: A Heroes Outcome!]]'', Ash battled [[Dino]] and his {{p|Darumaka}} with his Palpitoad again and won easily. In the final round, Ash went up against {{an|Iris}} and her {{TP|Iris|Excadrill}}. Ash used {{AP|Pikachu}}, but lost the match and became runner-up in the tournament. He didn't feel bad, though, and was happy to see Iris win the tournament.

Ash is an only child that lived with his mother, [[Delia Ketchum]], until he left for his Pokémon journey at the age of ten.

His father was never introduced. The anime suggests that his father was once a Pokémon Trainer who began his journey in Pallet Town, and that he is still living. An interview with the series' storyboarder confirmed Ash's father is a Trainer on his own journey. According to the same storyboarder, Ash's father may or may not be introduced in the series, depending on its necessity to Ash's further maturity and development as a Trainer.

As a Trainer, Ash has captured and befriended a sizable number of Pokémon over the course of the anime. His philosophy on {{pkmn|training}} is that Pokémon are individuals and that a combination of trust, friendship and hard work are needed to overcome adversity. He seems to battle best with Pokémon that are similar to Pikachu: ones that are [[Appendix:Metagame terminology#Sweeper|speedy and maneuverable, yet able to perform high-powered attacks]]; however, he is willing to work with any Pokémon that comes into his care. Ash's battle style is generally spontaneous and fairly unorthodox, and his Pokémon often reflect these traits.

The '''Team Rocket trio''', sometimes referred to as '''TRio''', is a trio of members of [[Team Rocket]]: [[Jessie]], [[James]], and {{MTR}}.

==In the anime==

Since making their debut in the [[EP002|very second episode of the anime]], they have since appeared in every single episode up until the {{series|Best Wishes}}, where they appeared less frequently. As such, they are the most prominent representation of Team Rocket as a whole in the anime.

In most of their appearances, they attempt to capture {{Ash}}'s {{AP|Pikachu}}, or any other Pokémon to give to their boss, {{an|Giovanni}}. However, they almost always get defeated and are blasted off with their iconic catchphrase "We're blasting off again!". Typically right after making a capture, they will recite their {{motto}}, though on some occasions they're unable to finish. This has been parodied by protagonists and even [[Cassidy|other]] Team Rocket [[Butch|members]]. Even though they usually only cause trouble for the main characters, they have sometimes helped them, mostly when dealing with a common enemy, as shown in ''[[M02|The Power of One]]'' and later against [[Team Aqua]] and [[Team Magma]]. They also played a key part in the fight against [[Team Galactic]], teaming up with [[Looker]]. They occasionally put their differences aside for personal reasons, only to later return to their thieving ways. One of the more common moments of truce is during [[Pokémon Contest]]s, which Jessie had a fondness for participating in; however, Ash and his friends are unaware that it is her.

On several occasions, Jessie, James and Meowth have shown that they are not bad and even have affection for Ash. The trio heroically sacrificed themselves to certain death in ''[[M02|The Power of One]]'' in order to allow Ash's escape on Lugia. They also saved him from a fall in the next movie, ''[[M03|Spell of the Unown]]''. Whilst their justification was that in the case of the world being destroyed or Ash's death, they'd be out of work, it is implied that this is just bluster to cover the fact that they are not bad people. In ''[[Charizard Chills]]'', Team Rocket kept [[Ash's Charizard]] awake as it lay in the lake, and then built a [[Team Rocket's mechas|huge mecha]] and attacked the [[Charicific Valley]] for the sole purpose of allowing Charizard to defeat them and gain acceptance in the Valley.

Though their general incompetence in making any sort of contribution to Team Rocket didn't go well for them as Giovanni contemplated firing them in one episode (but reassigned them due to problematic developments and manpower shortages in Team Rocket) and was shown to not even remember who they were in ''[[DP080|The Thief That Keeps on Thieving!]]''. However, due to their false reports that they alone caused Team Aqua, Magma and Galactic to disband, [[Giovanni's secretary]] recommended them to Giovanni for his plans in the [[Unova]] region. The trio got promoted and soon they became more serious and less goofy. They focused less on capturing random Pokémon and more on the assignments that are given to them straight from Headquarters. In ''[[BW023|Battling For The Love of Bug-Types!]]'' however, [[Giovanni's secretary]] informed them that they won't be needed for any more missions. They began to worry that the boss had abandoned them and returned to their white uniforms. Despite this, they still have hope, and carry out their current plans in the same matter. They do keep some gadgets, such as jet packs they use to avoid blasting off; they have yet to blast off in the {{series|Best Wishes}}. Also, they seem to have maintained their increased athletic abilities they gained at the start of the Best Wishes series.

Meowth travelled with {{Ash}}, {{an|Iris}} and {{an|Cilan}} from ''[[BW043|Meowth's Scrafty Tactics!]]'' to [[BW047]] after apparently messing up a mission in [[Nimbasa City]], being fired from Team Rocket and splitting up with Jessie and James. However, in BW047 it was revealed that Meowth was never fired from Team Rocket, his travels with Ash, Iris and Cilan being part of their latest scheme. Meowth then rejoined Jessie and James.

==In the games==
In {{game|Yellow}}, Jessie and James appear and are involved in Team Rocket's scheme, and typically appear before the player battles [[Giovanni]]. They also replace the three Team Rocket members in the [[Pokémon Tower]] that hold [[Mr. Fuji]] hostage as well as two {{tc|Team Rocket Grunt}}s: one close to the exit of [[Mt. Moon]] and the other one near the entrance to the President's room at [[Silph Co.]] Curiously, they are never referred to by their individual names and share their Trainer class with all other Team Rocket Grunts.

They first attack the player in [[Mt. Moon]], while trying to take one of the rare [[fossil]]s uncovered there.

Later, in [[Celadon City]]'s [[Rocket Game Corner]], Jessie and James guard Giovanni's room in the Team Rocket base. During that time, as the player runs into them, they are eager for revenge after the main character busted up their plans at Mt. Moon.

They hold Mr. Fuji hostage at [[Pokémon Tower]]. They attack the {{ga|Red|player}} on the seventh floor.

Finally, at [[Silph Co.]] in [[Saffron City]], Jessie and James make their final appearance, once again trying to stall the main character from reaching [[Giovanni|their Boss]].

Unlike in the anime, Jessie and James do not follow the main character around and come up with their usual evil plans to capture Pikachu. Also, {{MTR}} resides in a [[Poké Ball]] instead of traveling around with Jessie and James.

Jessie and James appear on both versions of the card {{TCG ID|Team Rocket|Here Comes Team Rocket!|15}}, which originally released in the {{TCG|Team Rocket}} set; it was re-released with different artwork in {{TCG|EX Team Rocket Returns}}. In that expansion, there were also preconstructed {{TCG|Theme Deck}}s based on {{TCG|Jessie}} and {{TCG|James}}.
