Gary has been a neighbor of [[Ash Ketchum]] since they were both young. At one time they seemed to be friends and went to see movies together as seen in ''[[AG086|Lights, Camerupt, Action!]]''. Before either of their journeys began, both Gary and Ash found an old [[Poké Ball]] while fishing. The two boys began fighting over who would get to keep the Poké Ball but ended up breaking it in half. Since then, they decided to keep the two separate pieces for themselves. It was revealed in ''[[EP269|The Ties That Bind]]'' that they still carried the pieces with them.

===In the original series===
The day he started out on his Pokémon journey, he came off as an arrogant trainer, much like his {{pkmn|game}} counterpart, {{ga|Blue}}. His chosen [[starter Pokémon]] was [[Gary's Blastoise|Squirtle]] which was actually the same Pokémon that Ash originally wanted to start with. He even had a group of [[Gary's cheerleaders|cheerleaders]] who cheered him on in all his battles and would go so far as crying when ever he lost. And he didn't walk on his journeys like most trainers did. Instead he had his own sporty red convertible with his own chauffeur. Gary loved when he got a chance to make fun of Ash by bragging about how far behind Ash was compared to him. He also gave Ash the pet-name of "Ashy-boy". Gary does not say this in the Japanese version, but he says Ash as {{tt|"Satoshi''-kun''"|Satoshi is Ash's Japanese name and ''-kun'' is a Japanese honorific}}, which ocasionally seemed to annoy him. His style of training at this point was to capture many Pokémon and to use the strongest, as a stark contrast to Ash who focuses on developing a bond with his Pokémon.

Soon he would eat his words when he would challenge the [[Viridian City]] [[Gym Leader]], [[Giovanni]] to a Pokémon Battle for his final, but not necessary, badge in ''[[EP063|Battle For The Badge]]''. At first he seem to be winning against Giovanni, knocking out most of his Pokémon. But then Giovanni sent out {{an|Mewtwo}} against the trainer and even let Gary use both his {{TP|Gary|Arcanine}} and {{TP|Gary|Nidoking}} against it. Mewtwo made quick work of the two Pokémon and Gary experienced his first (known) loss. However this still didn't change his arrogance. It would take a loss at the [[Pokémon League]] in ''[[EP077|The Fourth Round Rumble]]'' during his fourth battle to finally realize that he needed to change himself.

Gary eventually returned in ''[[EP115|A Tents Situation]]''. Much unlike his former self, he congratulated Ash on his victory in the [[Orange Crew|Orange League]]. Soon Ash challenged him to a battle with his {{AP|Pikachu}} as his choice. Gary in turn used his [[Gary's Umbreon|Eevee]]. Gary managed to defeat Ash and then left on his journey through [[Johto]].

In his few appearances during the Johto season, he seemed to have become the complete opposite of who he was. He became polite, intelligent, and respectful to others, including Ash. In ''[[EP270|Can't Beat The Heat!]]'' he battled Ash at the [[Silver Conference]]. Ash ended up winning the battle when his {{AP|Charizard}} defeated Gary's Blastoise.

In ''[[EP273|Gotta Catch Ya Later!]]'' Gary decided that he didn't want to be a Pokémon trainer anymore but instead wanted to be a [[Pokémon researcher]] like his grandfather,Oak.

===Advance Generation===
In ''[[H015|Putting the Air Back in Aerodactyl]]'', Gary works on [[Sayda Island]] with {{an|Crystal}}. There, he revived an {{p|Aerodactyl}} from an [[Old Amber]]. At first the Aerodactyl was afraid of him and every other person on the island. But it soon gained his trust after he fed it some fruit that Aerodactyl used to eat.

Eventually, he moves to the [[Sinnoh]] region where he is currently conducting his research.

In ''[[AG191|Home Is Where The Start Is]]'', Gary reunited with Ash and battled him with his new {{TP|Gary|Electivire}} and defeated Ash's Pikachu once more.

===Diamond and Pearl===
In ''[[DP045|Ill-Will Hunting!]]'' he was taking care of a group of {{p|Shieldon}} and protected them from the evil [[Pokémon Hunter]] [[J]] and [[J's henchmen|her minions]]. He appeared once again in [[DP085]] where he helped Ash and {{AP|Gligar}} by giving a [[Razor Fang]] to Ash which caused {{AP|Gligar}} to evolve later. '''Iron Island''' (Japanese: '''こうてつじま''' ''Steel Island'') is a small islet off of the northwestern coast of [[Sinnoh]], which is accessible by boat in [[Canalave City]]. On this island, a man named [[Riley]] trains, and will give the player a {{p|Riolu}} [[Pokémon egg|egg]] if he or she helps him here by teaming up with him, and has a space for it in his/her party, if not, he will wait until the player returns with an empty space. [[Riley]] has a Level 34 {{p|Lucario}} and will fully heal all of a player's Pokémon after each battle. At the end of Iron Island, a [[Shiny Stone]] is found. Iron Island was once a prosperous ore mine, but was shut down after the ore reserves dried up. Since then, it was kept open as a training area and habitat for wild Pokémon. [[Byron]] and the members of the [[Canalave Gym]] come here to train, as did [[Roark]] in his childhood.

Scizor was first seen under the ownership of an arrogant trainer who thought he could always win by computer in [[EP140]].

[[Vicious]] used a Scizor to retrieve {{p|Celebi}} in [[Pokémon 4Ever]].

[[Gary Oak]] used a Scizor against [[Ash]] in [[EP269]].

In [[AG129]], Katie used a Scizor to battle [[Ash's Swellow]] during the [[Hoenn]] League. Katie's Scizor lost despite it having the type advantage.

In [[AG166]], a girl named Luna had a Scizor disguise itself as "Red Lightning". Red Lightning went around a city, battling other peoples' Pokémon. Red Lightning would then scribble on the defeated Pokémon's face. The disguised Scizor's reign of terror ended when [[Ash's Pikachu]] blasted its costume off and when [[Ash's Sceptile]] defeated it in battle (not to mention saving Scizor's life for that matter).

Its latest appearance was in ''[[DP008|Gymbaliar]]'' in the ownership of a woman named Minae. It fought against {{p|Croagunk}} and lost.

When [[Team Rocket]] started up an evil scheme at the [[Lake of Rage]], Lance showed up to investigate. He met [[Ash]], [[Misty]], and [[Brock]] there, saving the children from some formidable [[Rocket Grunts]]. Ash wanted to help Lance in his mission, but Lance said it was too dangerous. Knocking out a Rocket and taking his clothes, he was able to infiltrate their base. Team Rocket was trying to investigate the properties of a [[Alternate color|Red]] {{p|Gyarados}} so that they could learn how to force Pokémon to [[Evolution|evolve]]. Lance was able to destroy Team Rocket's machine and blow up their laboratory. Ash was able to calm the Red Gyarados at first, but it continued to go berserk. Finally, Lance caught it to keep it from destroying [[Mahogany Town]].

Lance later appeared again in [[Hoenn]], where he infiltrated [[Team Magma]] and helped stop the rampage of {{p|Kyogre}} and {{p|Groudon}}.

In [[Generation I]] and the [[Generation III]] remakes, Lance is the fourth and final member of the [[Elite Four]]. He must be defeated before facing [[Blue (game)|Blue]], the [[League Champion]]. By the [[Generation II]] games, he has proceeded to become League Champion.

He raises dragon Pokémon, which are both hard to catch and raise, but he prefers the superiority of Dragon-type Pokémon, believing them to be virtually indestructable.

Lance is primarily a villain in [[Pokémon Special]]. As the leader of the Elite Four, he wishes to exterminate the human race, save for a few people who he deems to be kind enough to Pokémon.

Apparently also from [[Viridian City]], Lance was blessed with the powers of the [[Viridian Forest]] as [[Yellow (Special)|Yellow]] was. He has the power to telepathically communicate with Pokémon, as well as heal their wounds.

Lance also has the ability to control or brainwash any Dragon-type Pokémon, as well as most Pokémon similar to Dragons (such as Aerodactyl or Tyranitar).

Lance tried to summon {{p|Lugia}} on [[Cerise Island]] to help accomplish his goals, but Yellow's Pokémon were able to drive Lugia away. This interested Lance, as he wanted to find out who Lugia's real owner was. It wasn't often that he lost control of dragon-like Pokémon.

Lance disappeared for a while, investigating Lugia and working behind the scenes. He gave [[Silver (Special)|Silver]] advice on how to defeat Team Rocket in [[Johto]], as well as a Tyranitar. Working through Silver, Lance tried to help defeat the [[Mask of Ice]].

May is a materialistic young girl who loves shopping and eating treats. She is generally very sweet and optimistic, though she shows a tougher side sometimes, such as when she argues with her annoying little brother. She loves cute [[Pokémon]] and flashy techniques, and sometimes takes an interest in helping other people with romantic problems. She makes [[Pokéblock]]s, including ones called "May's Purple Surprise" and "May's Pink Surprise".

When May debuted in the anime, she did not like Pokémon at all and was only interested in becoming a [[Pokémon trainer]] so she could travel. She did not know much about [[Pokémon battle|battling]] and gave wrong [[move|attack]] names, and did not like the idea of taking on trainers as skilled as [[Gym Leader]]s. However, she found a niche for herself in the [[Pokémon world]] when she learned about Pokémon contests, and began focusing on Pokémon coordinating. She has three main rivals in contests: [[Drew]], [[Jessie]] and [[Harley]]. At the end of the [[Advanced Generation]] series, she leaves to compete with Drew and Harley in [[Johto]].

The name Haruka contains ''haru'', which means "spring". The name May may be a reference toward this, as May is a month in spring.

= Synopsis =


Another day and another adventure begins our story as May releases her three Pokémon and begins her speech about the Kanto Pokémon Contest. Her Pokémon seem to not be that much insterested in the contest. Inside of the Stadium, preperations are being made for the contest just as May steps in. She is very exluberant and estatic about the contest. The announcer steps up to the middle of the stadium and calls out an Espeon. The stadium lights shine upon Espeon's magnificent coat. Espeon then launches a {{m|Swift}} Attack and then quickly responds with a {{m|Psybeam}} which causes the stars to form several rings which Espeon then rotates through majestically landing in an astonishing feat. May's Squirtle rushes down to the center of the ring and begins relasing a small array of bubbles. The announcer quickly picks Squirtle up and hands it back to May. While being grasped between May's arms, Squirtle begins crying frantically. The announcer points out that Squirtle wants to get on stage as it then responds in glory. Lilian seems to be participating in the contest this time.

At the nearby Pokémon Center, everyone is enjoying cold drinks as May wonders about the contest. Everyone explains to May that she will do fine just as someone pushing a cart interrupts their conversation. May is excited that her Pokémon have returned to normal health but comes to notice that Harley is pushing the cart. May seems to be confused as to why Harley is there.

Dressed in a exliburant and exciting costume, Jessie steps in the contest registration room and presents her contest card to the personnel. There seems to be a mistake as Jessie hits the ground while Meowth and James appear announcing Jessie. The announcer explains that the card she has is a Hoenn registration card as the one they require is the Kanto Region card. Jessie then quickly reveals her card and Wobbuffet pops in with the usual greeting.

Jessie seems to be excited about the contest as Meowth interrupts saying that she doesn't have any Pokémon to use. Jessie then begs James to use his Pokémon. James then calls out Cacnea which welcomes him with the usual greeting.

May asks Harley why he is there while he explains that he works at the [[Pokémon Center]]. Harley goes on to explain that he is helping Joy at the Pokémon Center. Joy then appears in the doorway as Harley rushes over to grab her hand and greet her. Harley then turns around and introduces May to Joy.

Jessie calls then calls out Cacnea as it seems to be frightened from Jessie and quickly jumps onto James. As James tries removing it from his chest, it seems to reject and stays clinged to his chest. Cacnea then turns around and jumps onto Jessie as she screams in pain.

Harley and everyone are discussing the contest as Jessie runs through the nearby doors interrupting the conversation with Cacnea attached to her hair. Meowth and James arrive to assist but prove to be helpless as a Chansey rushes to Jessie and carries her off. Joy then calls Harley to come help her with the operation.

Outside of the stadium, everyone's Pokémon seem to be enjoying themselves as May releases Squirtle. An arm appears out of the distance and grasps onto Squirtle and Pikachu realing them into a cage attached to Team Rocket's balloon. With only two rocket members left, an introduction is given without Jessie. Ash goes to give Pikachu a command but notices that squirtle is also inside of the confinment.

Inside the Pokémon Center operating room, Jessie's hair seems to be twisted around Cacnea's body very badly as Joy and Harley appear with a Scizor. Jessie looks at Scizor's sharp claws and then faints on the operating table.

A nearby Mankey and Vulpix are also captured by Team Rocket as they seem to be aquiring contest Pokémon at a high rate. James and Meowth rush off into the distance as Harley appears and releases a Spinarak. It fires a gigantic stream of web towards the balloon which envelops it and its contents. May then calls upon Combusken which quickly releases a Mega Punch into the bottom of the cage. The bottom easily crumbles and falls towards the ground releasing all of the contest Pokémon from their prison.

Meowth then shows his sharp claws and attempts to cut the web from their balloon. Squirtle responds sending a devasting Ice Beam towards the balloon and sending James and Meowth blasting off into the sky at the speed of light. May and Ash ares urprised at Squirtle's usage of Ice Beam. Max then suggests that May should use Squirtle in the contest as she then thanks Squirtle for its hard work. Harley and May wish each other luck in the contest exchanging greetings.

In the nearby forest, Cacnea has already been successfully removed from Jessie's hair but when revealed is cut to a much shorter length. The usual self-confidence building speech is given by Jessie building everyone's confidence up once again.

May goes to register for the contest as the same problem that arose with Jessie's registration appears. She is trying to register with her Hoenn card but a Kanto card is required at this contest. Time seems to be running low for the team as Max states his disbelief as May falls to the ground. Harley seems to have noticed that May can't enter the contest and appears to be happy about the situtation.

Lilian appears and questions the personnel why May can't be registered. She goes on to explain that May is trying to register with a Hoenn Contest Pass. Lilian convinces the woman to register her for the Kanto region as she then hands her a Kanto Contest Card and a Ribbon Box. May thanks Lilian for her actions as she then steps off into the nearby room. With May succesfully registering for the Kanto Pokémon Contest, a hard yet exciting contest awaits our hero as another day passes by in the Kanto region. (Written by: bgt)

==Glitches==
Most Pokémon games had some [[glitch|glitches]], as did these. There is the infamous [[berry glitch]], which made most time based events, such as berry growing, impossible after the game had been owned for a year, or played for over a 100 hours. This glitch is able to be corrected, however, by downloading the berry patch from either the [[Pokémon Colosseum]] bonus disc, or [[Pokémon FireRed and LeafGreen|Pokémon FireRed, LeafGreen]], or [[Pokémon Emerald|Emerald]]. In this game, it is also possible to catch several glitch Pokémon, such as [[Ten question marks|???????]] or [[Bad egg]].

==Storyline==

The trainer first starts when, as always, being asked by one of the professors (in this case [[Professor Birch|Professor Birch]]) what gender he or she is, and what her/his name is. After that, the trainer will be in a moving van. This moving van comes from [[Johto]], where the family first lived, but they moved after the trainers father, [[Norman]] became leader of the [[Petalburg Gym]]. After the van is left, he or she will enter a house (the house of the trainer, to be exact) and there will be {{p|Machoke}} movers carrying boxes. After some dialogue with the mother of the trainer, the trainer will have to meet professor Birch, but he appears to be out in the field, so he must be found.

Upon encountering him, he will be chased by a {{p|Poochyena}}, and he will ask the trainer to take a [[Pokéball]] out of his backpack, lying on the ground. Here, the trainer has to choose if he/she wants a {{p|Treecko}}, a {{p|Torchic}}, or a {{p|Mudkip}}. While they are balanced, most players prefer either Treecko, for his ability to learn the move {{m|absorb}} early, or Torchic, because it beats the early Pokémon relatively well. Furthermore, the usual story of the Pokémon game is followed, and the trainer gets some [[Poké Ball]]s, and sets out to become a Pokémon Master (and of course, he or she's ''Gotta catch 'em all'').

Before the trainer leaves, however, he or she obtains the Running shoes from the mother of the trainer. The trainer then continues through Hoenn, defeating [[Team Magma]] or [[Team Aqua]] in places, depending on the version. Using {{m|Rock Smash}}, the trainer finishes the [[Rusturf Tunnel]], he or she rescues the {{p|Wailmer}} in [[Lilycove City]], and saves the world from either {{p|Groudon}} (in Ruby) or {{p|Kyogre}} (in Sapphire), and does many more things, too countless to name.

Finally, the [[Elite Four]] is defeated, and just when [[Steven Stone]] crowns the trainer to champion, the rival interrupts, saying: '*name of trainer*! Wait! Before you challenge the champion I have some advice to give you!'
After that, the rival finds out the battle is already over, and professor Birch comes in. He congratulates the trainer, and takes a look at the trainer's Pokédex. Then, the trainer is registered in the Hall of Fame, and the credits begin.

Players who have already seen the credits a lot of times usually choose to turn the GBA off and then back on, as the game was automatically saved before being registered, simply skipping the credits. The credits feature the trainer biking home, similar to the small movie when the game is turned on. The credits also feature pictures of the Pokémon the trainer has captured. If the trainer hasn't captured enough Pokémon to fill the entire credits, the Pokémon are repeated. After the credits, the trainer is waiting in his room upstairs, ready to catch more Pokémon, including the now unlocked Rayquaza and Latios/Latias depending on the version.

This is a list of Pokémon which [[evolve]] differently depending on certan [[Methods of evolution|conditions]]. To date, no Pokémon that evolves by branch evolution undergoes a further branch in its evolution, however, {{p|Wurmple}} undergoes further evolution beyond the branch.

Most Pokémon that evolve through branch evolution do so in their basic forms, and most do not make it to a second evolution. There are a few exceptions, though.

For the record, is it "Boulderbadge" or "Boulder Badge"? Also, I figure listing what Badges do both here and in the [[Gym Leader]] page is redundant. I think it is more appropriate here. uhhh... To Ket, I think someone may have gone a bit overboard on our translation thing. ^^; And with respect to the #___Badge, yeah, I'll edit that so it's possible. == Hoenn/Shin'ō Badges ==

Does anyone know where the Kanto and Johto badges' images came from, or who made them? I think it would look a lot better if we had something like that for the other two regions... I mean, if anyone has some drawing skill and can draw out the Hoenn badges, then digitally color them like the other ones, that'd be a good substitute for that anime screenshot... Same for the Shin'ō ones, if we get their colors ahead of time... Depends on how fast we get through Shin'ō in the anime, though, I'd suppose.
