Project Routes covers all articles about Routes in the Pokémon World.

The ultimate goal is to create and standardize articles for every route, numbered and not numbered, such as Hoenn's Jagged Pass or Kanto's Diglett's Cave, that has been featured in the Pokémon games and anime. Currently, this project covers every route in the regions of [[Kanto]], [[Johto]], [[Hoenn]], [[Sinnoh]], and the [[Sevii Islands]].

You can help by opening the [[List of Routes in the Pokémon World]] and selecting any route in red (which means that there is no article for it yet) and starting that article, or opening any route that you can provide more information about.

Most of the existing route articles need to be modified to comply with the project standard (see below). You can open [[:Category:Route articles needing work]] and review what has been noted to need work there. Also, you can check [[:Category:Route stubs]] to see which articles need expanding.

Routes in [[:Category:Routes needing screenshots]] have been converted to the new standard but are missing screenshots for the infobox. You can open this category, see which routes are listed and, if possible, upload a screenshot of that route to Bulbagarden Archives. Once the image has been uploaded, the [[Template:Routeimage]] tag can be removed.

===Structure===
====Infobox information====
Articles should use [[Template:RouteInfo]], and all known info should be supplied. Route maps may be taken from [http://www.vgmaps.com/], as they are fair use.

====Main Section====
Untitled section that describes the route. Depending on the route this section may just name the direction (E/W or N/S) and termination points, or may go into considerable detail. However, the majority of detail, should be reserved for the next section.

====Route description====
This section is for describing the route itself. The progression of the main path of the route should be described from north to south, east to west unless it makes more sense to describe the route using other directions, such as Routes [[Route 3|3]] and [[Route 25|25]].

====Items====
A list of items found on the route as well as a description of their location on the route.

====Pokémon====
A list of Pokémon that appear along the route as well as encounter rates and times of encounter if possible. Lists should be separated by Generation using third-level headlines. If the route appeared in only one Generation, then the Generation heading is not necessary.

On routes that have multiple ways to encounter Pokémon, they should be listed in this order:
*Grass (Sand in the case of [[Route 111]]; Seaweed for [[Underwater]] pathways)
*Fishing
*Surfing
*Rock Smash
*Headbutt
*Dive

Any of the above items that does not apply to the route does not need to be listed.

Lists should be organised in order of location, then highest to lowest encounter rate. If the encounter rate for a Pokémon is lower in a different game, a repeat of the entry should be made directly underneath except with that particular game highlighted (instead of in the initial entry), and the different encounter rate stated. In the case of multiple Pokémon with the same encounter rate, Pokémon should be listed in order of games they are available in, then their [[Ndex|NationalDex]] number.

The '''Red Chain''' (Japanese: '''あかいくさり''' ''Red Chain'') is a special [[key item]], in {{game2|Diamond|Pearl|Platinum}}, created from the crystals of [[Sinnoh]]'s {{pkmn2|legendary}} [[Legendary trio|trio]]: {{p|Uxie}}, {{p|Mesprit}} and {{p|Azelf}}. It is used by [[Cyrus]] to control {{p|Dialga}} and {{p|Palkia}}, in order to complete his dream of creating a new {{pkmn|world}}. He wants to use the chain instead of a [[Poké Ball]] so that their power won't decrease.

==Description==
A mythical chain that is said to link the legendary Pokémon that created the Sinnoh region.

It is said that the Red Chain summons Dialga and Palkia when it is put together.

==Location==
The item is, in fact, unobtainable in the games. This is because Cyrus uses the item himself in the story, and by the time Dialga and Palkia are summoned, the item has lost its purpose. The key item was created in the [[Pokémon Diamond and Pearl beta|games' prototype]] and still remains in the games' coding. It can still be obtained by hacking into the games' coding with a hacking device, but it serves no real function. It can be assumed that the Dialga and Palkia event was going to be started by the {{player}} instead of Cyrus, or that it was created in order to beta test the game before [[Team Galactic]] was put into the game.

After the [[lake trio|three Pokémon of the lake]] appear at the [[Spear Pillar]] to Dialga and Palkia, the Red Chain crumbles away and the [[Dragon trio|dragons]] are no longer under the control of Cyrus.

==From Cyrus's PC Entries==
In [[Pokemon Platinum]], in the Team Galactic Veilstone Building, on the top floor, there is a computer that has information on the red chain. It says:
'The Red Chain...
The Pokemon of the lakes and [[Mt. Coronet]] are somehow connected. Capturing the Pokemon of the lakes will free the Pokemon of Mt. Coronet. From the Pokemon of the lakes, crystals can be extracted to create a Red Chain.

Using that Red Chain, the [[Giratina|Mythical Pokemon]] can be summoned and shackled to do as we command...'

In simpler terms, this means that [[Cyrus]] discovered that the Red Chain can be created from crystals on the bodies of [[Uxie]], [[Mesprit]], and [[Azelf]], and this chain could be used to summon either [[Palkia]], [[Dialga]], or [[Giratina]].
==Trivia==
* Oddly, it says in-game that the Red Chain is made from the crystals from the lake trio. None of the three are missing any of the crystals on their bodies, however.

'''Route 1''' is a short north-south path located in west [[Kanto]]. Its northern terminus is at [[Viridian City]] and its southern terminus is at [[Pallet Town]]. The contour of the route is designed to be an express route heading south and a trek through numerous grassy areas heading north, both fitting considering the early portion of the storyline of Generations {{Gen|I}} and {{Gen|III}} takes trainers along Route 1 numerous times.

==Route description==
Heading south from Viridian, trainers can either hop down ledges to completely avoid any contact with wild [[Pokémon]] on their way to Pallet or they can travel through the grass patches, the required path for northbound travel. Following the grass-lined path, the route turns east then south as it enters the first patch. After a small break, the path of the route enters another patch of grass as the route turns west.

Route 1 then makes an "S", turning to the south, then to the east before returning south and west, passing through the third grassy area. The path then juts south, entering another patch before curving to the east then to the south as it enters Pallet.

There are no opponent trainers on this route in Generations I and III. However, a man who works at the [[Poké Mart]] in Viridian City will give out a free sample of {{DL|Potion|Potion}} to trainers who chat with him. In Generation II, the Poké Mart employee has been exchanged for two trainers and a Bitter Berry.

===In the games===
[[Pokemon Red and Blue]]: After the player leaves [[Pallet Town]], he must travel to [[Viridian City]] and its [[Poké Mart]] to recieve the parcel which he takes to [[Prof. Oak]]. The player is then able to travel through Viridian City.

[[Pokemon Gold and Silver]]: This route is requiured to be traversed to get to Viridian City and its [[Gym Leader]], [[Blue]].

[[Pokemon FireRed and LeafGreen]]: After the player leaves Pallet Town, he must travel to Viridian City and its Poké Mart to recieve the parcel which he takes to Prof. Oak. The player is then able to travel through Viridian City.

[[Pokemon HeartGold and SoulSilver]]: Although little is known about these upcoming games, it follows the storyline of Gold and Silver and, as such, should be the same as Pokemon Gold and Silver.

==Differences among generations==
The route layout in Generations I and III are identical except for the fact that the Generation I version has grassy patches to both the east and the west of the route itself.

The grass on the sides was removed since in Generation I, trainers could enter the grass using the [[Cheating|walk anywhere]] glitch and, upon doing this, the game would freeze. This was because the grassy area contained no data for cities, routes, or even wild Pokémon, and the game would crash upon trying to retrieve the missing data.

===Generation II===
In Generation II, the route remains the same but two trainers have been added to the mix. Also, the Viridian Poké Mart employee is no longer present and a Bitter Berry tree has sprouted along the northwest portion of the route. Lastly, the grass patches outside of the route have been removed but the spacing between the route and the surrounding forest still remains.
