It is not known to evolve into or from any other Pokémon.

In {{game|Emerald}}, it served to end the conflict between {{p|Kyogre}} and {{p|Groudon}} when [[Team Magma]]'s leader [[Maxie]] and [[Team Aqua]]'s leader [[Archie]] awakened them.

Rayquaza is the version mascot of {{game|Emerald}}, appearing on the boxart.

==Biology==

Rayquaza is a large, green, flying serpentine-like creature with red-tipped, rudder-like wings on its shoulders and down its body, and similarly-patterned fins on the tip of its tail. Yellow rings run across the length of Rayquaza's body and it has an additional yellow ring on top of its head. Rayquaza has two limbs with three-clawed carpals, and two long, flat, horn-like structures on its head, with two smaller horns below them. Rayquaza appears to have a prominent gumline, with only two discernible fangs on the tip of its upper snout, the other protrusions in its mouth apparently from pointed gums. It has small, yellow eyes with black pupils. Its eyes and markings resemble those of both {{p|Kyogre}} and {{p|Groudon}}.

====Special abilities====
It is notable for its ability to [[trio master|soothe]] the other members of the [[Weather trio]], when angered. Rayquaza is capable of using various powerful elemental attacks that it shoots from its mouth. Rayquaza can negate the effects of the weather. Since Rayquaza is a {{type2|Dragon}} Pokémon, it can learn {{m|Draco Meteor}}.

Rayquaza constantly flies around the globe in the ozone layer, stopping and descending only to land on the peak of the Sky Pillar to rest. It is extremely territorial and will attack any intruders of its home. Due to the fact that can calm the other members of [[Weather trio|its trio]], it can be seen to be considered a leader and calm.

Rayquaza lives high in the {{wp|ozone layer}}, but may rest on [[Sky Pillar]], [[Sky Tower Summit]], or in the [[Embedded Tower]]. It also, on occasion, flies the world's skies when disturbed.

It fights against {{mov|Deoxys}} because it is seen as invading its territory. After a destructive battle over a glacier witnessed by [[Professor Lund]], [[Yuko]], and Lund's son [[Tory Lund|Tory]], and although it takes a few {{m|Psycho Boost}}s and is critically hit and falls into the freezing ocean, Rayquaza comes back and defeats Deoxys with a {{m|Hyper Beam}} attack. Four years later, Deoxys manages to regenerate, and it goes to find its friend, another Deoxys. Rayquaza senses its presence and goes to LaRousse City to battle Deoxys again. After [[LaRousse City]] has been evacuated, Rayquaza manages to break through Deoxys's city-wide barrier after many failed attempts. Then, Rayquaza and Deoxys have a second spectacular battle that destroys some of the city. After {{p|Deoxys}} finds its friend and helps fight off the malfunctioning security bots, Rayquaza realizes that Deoxys is good and stops attacking. It (or possibly another of its species) also has a cameo in the opening to the [[M09|ninth Pokémon movie]] and is captured by Team Rocket. Its current status is unknown, possibly flying around in the atmosphere (assuming it managed to escape from Team Rocket).

In ''[[DP043|Malice In Wonderland!]]'', a Rayquaza appeared in ownership of [[Cynthia]], but as an illusion created by {{p|Mismagius}}. When Mismagius fuses with Rayquaza, it becomes the same color as the Mismagius.

A real Rayquaza appeared in its anime episode debut in outer space in ''[[DP142|Where No Togepi Has Gone Before!]]''.

To stop the battle between Kyogre and Groudon, [[Wally]] and [[Norman]] trained at the [[Sky Tower]] and woke up Rayquaza. Five years earlier, {{adv|Ruby}}'s victory over a {{p|Salamence}} was the reason Norman was banned from the Gym Leader test as the wounded Salamence accidentally let Rayquaza, who was in captivity at that time, free.

Rayquaza appears in [[the Subspace Emissary]] mode of Super Smash Bros. Brawl as a boss. After {{smw|Diddy Kong}} lands into a mysterious island, Rayquaza lunges out of the water and snatches him, furious from being distrupted. A ship suddenly crash-lands and smashes onto the beach, and out jumps {{smw|Fox McCloud|Fox}}, who deflects Rayquaza's {{m|Dragon Pulse}} back at it. Rayquaza collapses into the water, but not for long until it launches back out, engaging in battle between Fox and Diddy. Later, it is fought in the Great Maze level again and can be fought in the Boss Battles after the storyline is beaten.

As far as I can tell, neither side of this argument has any real evidence to support its opinion. At this point, all anyone knows is that there's a female playable character in this game. Some people look at the design and see a radical redesign of Kris; others think it's a new character. The art is the only grounds anyone has for forming an opinion, and this page has certainly proved that that's not a good enough basis for making a decision. Since we've seen that the pre-release screenshots have a history of giving the characters different names from their "real" ones, the text boxes referring to her as "Heart" aren't any help either. In lieu of any new information either way, it would seem most reasonable to me to leave this page as it is until we know more. After all, if this is a redesign of Kris, I don't think anyone can disagree that it has succeeded in making her look like a new character, at least moreso than any previous redesign. :Wait for what exactly? Nintendo to hold a press conference revealing this girl's identity? It's not going to happen, and no matter what evidence we get, this debate will continue to exist. I'm hoping that we can get some resolution when we find out how the Manga and possibly Anime handle this but I'm not holding my breath. The only thing that is known for now is that some people view her as an updated Kris, and some people view her as a new character. Currently, there are still articles, such as [[Kris (game)]] which refer to "Soul" as a new character. These need to be fixed to be more neutral with respect to the debate. I maybe new here, but I've done a lot of research before. We know that Kotone means harp; lute, sound, right?
So, here's a quick detour of past names. 1st: When Pokemon Ruby/Sapphire were released in Japan, May's japanese name reveiled as Haruka which means spring/flowers, of course, in Pokemon Gold/Silver/Crystal, there was a twin trainer at the bug gym that had names of Amy and MAY, but by the time R/S/E were in USA, another clue was reveiled within the game that, when D/P came out in Japan, Dawn's name in japanese means light, so in the 3rd generation R/S/E, there was a Swimmer (Female) by Regice's chamber named DAWN, now that D/P/Plat. came out, yet another well played clue hides in the game. With HGSS coming out in Japan, we hear this new trainer named Kotone, which means, like I said, harp, lute; sound. Now here's where my prediction comes in. One of you meantioned a japanese friend saying Kotone means Soul, but you're all close! What is the only thing that has a soul? The answer is Angels! What names have the word Angel in it? Two of them: Angelica, which has too many letters in it, and Angela, which has all 7 spaces filled, but where does this have to do with the 2nd/3rd generation? Answer: In the Eterna City Gym, a Aroma Lady had the name ANGELA!
Conclusion: By looking in the games of the past, there will be clues. When she was only five years old, Green was kidnapped by Ho-Oh, under control of the Masked Man. The Masked Man gave her a Jigglypuff and began to train her as one of his underlings. There, she met {{adv|Silver}} and developed a close bond with him. A few years later, the two children escaped from the Masked Man Hideout and then parted ways.

Green first met Red and tried to scam him out of his money by selling fake items by using her beauty and flattery. Red hunted her down to reclaim his money, but she used this opportunity to steal his [[badge]]s. Then Red learned that her Squirtle was stolen from Professor Oak and had evolved into a Wartortle. She is then seen surrounded by a group of [[Team Rocket]] members, revealed to have stolen some chip involving {{p|Mew}}. She sends out [[Ditty]] and in the confusion of Red saving her from an opponent's {{p|Tauros}}, she was able to switch Ditty as the Tauros and make the opponent's Pokémon defeat themselves thanks to that Tauros' special ability. It was then revelaed that she wants to catch Mew because she thinks that it is "the cutest Pokémon ever". Later it is found out that she really just wants it for money and when the two of them go hunting for Mew, she has Ditty {{m|Transform}} into Mew to fool the pursuing Team Rocket, although they really figure out the hoax and in the ensuring battle Mew gets away. Green then leaves saying that she plans on selling pictures of Mew she took to newspapers, but she does give back Red his badges.

She is later seen trying to sweet-talk her way into [[Saffron City]]. After failing, she tries to infiltrate from the air with her {{p|Jigglypuff}}. She then spots {{Adv|Blue}} and tells him about the barrier and later suggests that they team up. She then gets Red and Blue to team up so they can do all of the work for her getting into Saffron City, which they succeed in doing. She then slipped through the back door of Silph Co. and was able to glide right up to the 3F, where she encountered [[Sabrina]] and had to deal with her playing mind games. She later gets away from her by concealing Poké Balls on her chest and make Sabrina have Kadabra slash them off her chest, sending out Jigglypuff which used {{m|Sing}} to freeze Sabrina in her place. She than uses [[Ditty]] to disguise herself as Sabrina and reachs the room with the Badge Energy Amplifier and is almost attacked by Red. She then reveals that she frisked a Marsh Badge and traded it to Blue for his Moon Stone. She then takes the Amplifier from Red after it not working with his badges, revealing that the badges she "returned to him" were actually fake and that she kept the real ones. She then puts all of the badges into the Amplifier and made [[Zapmolcuno]] form accidently, thinking that it was supposed to make a rare new species of Pokémon. She was knocked out during the battle between her, Red, and Blue against Zapmolcuno but Red takes the Moon Stone and evolved her Clefairy into a Clefable. After a long fight Zapmolcuno was defeated by the combined forces of [[Blasty]], [[Blue's Charizard]], and the newly evolved [[Saur]].

Afterwards, she manages to get into the 9th Pokémon League tournament without badges by making it through special qualifying elimination rounds. Green makes it to fourth place, but is defeated by Professor Oak, who uses her fear of birds against her by using a team of Flying-type Pokémon to defeat her. He then reveals to her that he knew of reports and saw pictures of a girl who got kidnapped in Pallet Town by a bird Pokémon and when he saw the same face stealing a {{p|Squirtle}} he knew he had to talk to her and remind her that stealing is wrong. She confesses to Professor Oak who forgives her for stealing Squirtle and gives her the last [[Pokédex]]. She has ornithophobia and is afraid of {{type2|Flying}} Pokémon because of her kidnapping.

Green is first seen in the shadows listning to the battle between Yellow and Lorelei, calling Yellow an idiot when she told Lorelei her name, something Green said not to do. She is then seen attacking Lorelei's hand with one of horsea's attacks after Yellow and Bill escaped her and Lorelei was just about to give chase again. She then disappears.

Green trains {{adv|Yellow}} and gives Yellow her boy disguise, bugging her hat in the process so she could be tracked and heard, and sends her off to save Red. She believes the Elite Four were controlling Ho-Oh after hearing it from {{adv|Silver}}, so carries a grudge against them. She then journies to Bill to take a look at his transport system and look at {{adv|Red}}'s recent withdrawls. With Pika gone from his party Green knew he would want to replace it with another Pokémon and after Bill begrudgingly allowed it after she tied him up she saw that Red did so and withdrew [[Vui]], but before she could find out the [[Pokémon Center]] where the transaction took place, Bruno's {{p|Hitmonlee}} came in and smashed the transporter. After chasing it for a while Hitmonlee was defeated only for them to realize that it was simply a decoy to keep them away from Lance in Vermilion City.

Once she reaches Cerise Island she meets up with Yellow and they stealthily navigate the island by having Jigglypuff fly them across shrouded in Horsea's Smokescreen. Once the map Yellow obtained was eaten by a Slowbro they followed it to a cave and found Blaine, Blue, Koga, Sabrina, and Lt. Surge. When Sabrina's [[Spoons of Destiny]] chose partners Green found herself paired up with Sabrina. She battles [[Lorelei]] and she uses her ice voodoo dolls to chain Green and Sabrina together, and since they did not work together well at all, Green was quickly knocked out and Sabrina found herself carrying dead weight. After Sabrina stalls for a while Green wakes up just in time to have Blasty propel them up so they wouldn't fall off a cliff. Lorelei then tells her that she attacked Green first because of the humiliation that Green caused her when she first battled Yellow and Green recalled her tale of training Yellow, using it as a scapegoat to have her Clefable use minimize to get the dolls and then had Blasty blast them, separating her arm from her body. In truth this was really just Ditto (explaining why she didn't have wounds from the ice cuffs like Red and Sabrina endured), which had been her arm all along and had Ditto tie up Lorelei from behind. This angered Sabrina, who could've gotten out of the ice cuffs and not be carrying Green around the whole battle.

However, she eventually learns she was wrong about Ho-Oh and that it was Lugia instead and resolves to return to [[Johto]].

Green reappears late in the storyline, when her relationship with Silver is disclosed. She and Silver escaped from the Masked Man, who used Ho-Oh and {{p|Lugia}} to kidnap her along with [[Will]], [[Chermaine]], [[Karen]], and [[Keane]] to be his servants. Green confronts Ho-Oh and finally overcomes her ornithophobia, and uses the [[legendary birds]] to help defeat the Masked Man.

More of Green's past is revealed in this chapter including how she, along with {{adv|Silver}} [[PS268|managed to escape]] from the clutches of the [[Masked Man]]. She finally learns that her parents have moved to the [[Sevii Islands]] and resolves to reunite with them. Before she can, both they and Professor Oak are kidnapped by {{p|Deoxys}}. Here, her Pokémon finally evolve to their final stages and her Blastoise learns the legendary {{type2|Water}} move - {{m|Hydro Cannon}}. At the end of this saga, she was turned to stone along with 4 other [[Pokédex Holder]]s.

For most part of this chapter, she, along with four other Pokédex-holders, remained turned into stones. It was only at nearly the end of the chapter that she and the others were liberated by {{adv|Emerald}} with the help of the wish-granting [[legendary Pokémon]] {{p|Jirachi}}. In the tourney that included all of the Pokédex-holders, it is said that she won her first match, which was against {{adv|Crystal}} but it is not said how the other battles went.

* Before official nicknames of Green's Pokémon were released, [[Serebii.net#Staff|Coronis]] coined his own, which were often seen used by fandom. Coincidentally, Chuang Yi's nicknames were almost the same as Coronis's ones (except Blastoise and Jigglypuff).

* Green and {{adv|Blue}} are the only main Pokémon Adventures characters whose names were changed for the English translation. This is due to the complexity of [[Generation I]]'s game releases, where in Japan, Red Version was paired with Green Version (leaving Blue as the third), and in the rest of the world Red was paired with Blue (while there was no Green). Since she was not {{adv|Red}}'s rival, the translators did not see it fitting that she have her name be that of Red's "rival version". This name change is present in both the VIZ Media and Chuang Yi translations.

[[DP055]] was the most recent episode aired. It aired the Saturday before last.

Last Saturday basically caused a fiasco. The community had been led to believe that [[DP056]], the next episode in line, was going to air, but a rerun of [[DP001]] aired instead. Rumors floated around of possible make-up airings, but nothing came out of them.
