Trivia
*Tentacruel's original English name was "Man O War".
*Although it is stated to have eighty tentacles, only a little more than ten can often be seen.
*Despite what the Generation III and beyond Pokédex entry states, Tentacruel cannot learn Flash.
*The anime's Pokédex entry labeling Tentacruel as the "Gangster of the sea" could be a reference to its pose in Red and Blue, which resembles the way of how a mob leader would cross his arms.
*In Pokémon.com's online Pokédex, Tentacruel was randomly listed in the coding. It also mentioned Electric, possibly meaning that Tentacruel was originally to be part Electric-type.<!-- see http://www.flashprobe.com/parse.php?path=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.pokemon.com%2FPokedex%2Fglobalpokedex.swf&agree=on -->
Origin
Tentacruel is similar to the Portuguese man o' war, which is not a jellyfish but a cluster of polyps.
Name origin
Tentacruel's name is a combination of tentacle and cruel. Dokukurage literally means 毒水母, poison jellyfish.
Route 118 is an east-west route, located in central Hoenn. The route, separated into two segments by the southern extent of a river that splits Hoenn into two huge islands, runs between Mauville City to the west and 123 to the east. While the western segment is densely populated with trainers on a beach, the eastern half is dominated by grass.

An interesting feature of Route 118 is that each segment has its own background music.

Route description
Western segment
From Mauville, the route is straightforward, traveling directly east-west between the city limits and the west bank of the river. The western half of this path is composed of fields while the eastern portion is a sandy beach.

When trainers first encounter the river, it is impassable, as they are often lacking 03 at this point. After acquiring the move and the ability to use it outside of battle, trainers can cross the river to reach the eastern half.

The short river path runs directly east-west and contains no trainers, leaving wild Pokémon as the only concern.

Eastern segment
Route 118 comes ashore on another beach containing a pair of Fisherman. Gabby and Ty are often found in the area as well, looking for up-and-coming Pokémon trainers to battle and interview.

The route continues east, along a northern ledge. After passing through a large patch of grass, Route 118 comes to a three-way intersection. The northern path leads to 119, while the eastern path runs through another large patch of grass, before becoming Route 123.

Heading north from the intersection, a four-way intersection allows access to the upper areas that overlook the main path of Route 118. To the west is another trainer, a small area of grass, and a loamy soil patch containing two Sitrus plants. To the east is yet another grass patch and a Hyper Potion. Continuing north, the path becomes Route 119.

*Iron: hidden in a rock on the eastern beach
Another One Gabites the Dust! (Japanese: ポケモンコンテスト！ アケビ大会!! Pokémon Contest! Akebi Tournament!!) is the 114th episode of the Diamond & Pearl, and the 580th episode of the Pokémon anime. It first aired in Japan on February 12, 2009 and in the United States on July 11, 2009.
Synopsis
Incomplete synopsis
Dawn is feeling more ready than ever for the Chocovine Town Contest, and so are Dawn and Dawn. However things get a lot more intense when Dawn also develops a rivalry with another coordinator, Ursula. However this rivalry is a very unfriendly one, as Ursula makes no secret of the fact that she believes Dawn's win at the Wallace Cup (which Ursula also entered, yet failed to get past the Appeal rounds) was a complete fluke. As a result, Dawn is determined to show the arrogant coordinator what she is capable of, with the help of Pachirisu's new move...

Major events
* Dawn's Pachirisu learns Super Fang.
* Jessie's Yanmega is revealed to have Speed Boost as its ability.
* Dawn wins her fourth Contest Ribbon.
** The dub uses its Battle Frontier during the second round montage, with some lyrics modified to sidestep references to the Battle Frontier.
* Professor Oak's Pokémon lecture: Paras.
* This is the first Contest since her trade in Throwing the Track Switch that Dawn did not use Ambipom in.
* The dub's title is based on Queen (band)'s song, Another One Bites the Dust.

Errors
*Even though Gabite stepped on the Poffin with its right foot, the Poffin was seen under its left foot when Ursula looked at it.
Synopsis
synopsis cleanup
The travels of Ash, Misty, and Brock have brought them to Scissor Street. Ash wonders why they're here, but Misty then remembers that Scissor Street is also called "Breeder's Lane." Brock seems to be looking for a particular store.

Brock explains that there are a lot of breeding salons and beauty parlors on this street, all just for Pokémon. Misty suddenly runs ahead and looks at a big poster sporting the latest fashion, featuring an overdressed James and Jessie. There's also a pink scripted R on the poster.

When they find the advertised Salon, someone who sounds awfully familiar is announcing the place as "Salon Rockét." For some reason, this name sounds very familiar to Ash and Misty. Brock looks again at the posing Ekans and Koffing and wonders if it's a Pokémon or a Christmas Tree.

Inside, the stylists of Salon Rockét, (Jessie and James), are hard at work putting the latest fashions on a Raichu and a Dodrio. They seem to be a bit too enthusiastic about their work. When they complete their fashion makeover, they present the Pokémon to its trainer, who adores the new look. The Pokémon, however, are less than impressed.

While the stylists see the customer off, MTR is busy counting the money. He then starts complaining that they're spending too much money on advertising. Jessie corrects him, informing him that the more they hype the place up, the more customers they'll get. And those are customers that would pay thousands for the perfect Pokémon makeover. This sends Meowth practically drooling.

Back outside, Misty's debating if she should get in line, when Brock suddenly interrupts, saying he found the store he was looking for. He leads the others over to the store, which isn't nearly as flashy as any of the other places. Even so, Brock almost can't bring himself to open the door. Thus, Ash and Misty do it for him.

When they enter, they see a female Pokémon Breeder giving a Chansey a massage. She finishes up just as the customer returns for the Chansey. When Suzy, the breeder, asks if they need help, Ash says they're just browsing around, until Brock interrupts with a red face.

But then Misty herself interrupts, seeing a Brock napping on a chair. Ash and Misty make their way over, Ash using his Pokédex on the Vulpix. Misty continually compliments it, then picks it up, only to get a Flamethrower in the face. Dexter belatedly adds that Vulpix uses powerful flame attacks, to which Ash responds with a "Duh!"

Suzy apologizes and explains that Vulpix doesn't like to be touched or hugged by strangers, to which Misty can only reply "I wish I knew that sooner." Brock suddenly manages to speak up, stumbling his way through a greeting. His stumbling becomes worse, until he finally manages to blurt out that he wants to become Suzy's pupil. Everyone is shocked, Suzy foremost. Ash doesn't understand why, but Brock is quickly on top of it.

Brock, getting a microphone from somewhere, begins a recital about her achievements, fame, and other things. Misty asks if Vulpix has ever won any awards. Brock quickly breaks into another tirade about Vulpix, but is soon cut off by Ash, who exclaims "We get the idea!"

Later, Suzy serves tea for the three, and Pikachu is happily munching food. Suzy compliments Pikachu on his shiny coat, and asks if that food is Brock's. Brock says it is, and Misty explains that it's Brock's own recipe too. Suzy explains that she too got into Pokémon breeding because of her interest in Pokémon nutrition.

Vulpix suddenly leaps up to the bowl of food, sniffing at it curiously. Pikachu offers Vulpix the piece it was eating, and Vulpix eats it. As everyone watches, Vulpix proves to enjoy it. This surprises Suzy, as Vulpix usually doesn't eat anything Suzy herself hasn't made. Ash guesses that Vulpix is a fan of Brock's cooking too. All Brock can say is "Thank you, Vulpix," and bows, only to smack his head on the table.

Misty then brings up all the flashily dressed Pokémon they've seen en route. Suzy points out that ever since Salon Rockét opened up, everything has been about making Pokémon look as flashy as possible. Ash thinks that's dumb, but Misty points out that even Pokémon like to dress up once in a while. She then goes on to imagine what Pikachu would look like in fashion.

This, of course, leads to an argument between Ash and Misty about inside and outside being more important. Suzy asks if Brock should try to stop them, but he only responds that that's like trying to stop the tide. Ash finally jokingly suggests that if fashion's so important, why doesn't Misty take her Misty over to that salon? Misty loves the idea, and calls out Psyduck.

Ash busts out laughing, saying now they'll see who gets the last "quack." Misty claims that they're so cute that they'll look good no matter what fashion they're in, to which Ash slyly replies, "I'm sure Psyduck will." After shouting at Ash for a bit, Misty realizes that this may be tougher than she thought, but even so, they soon head off to Salon Rockét.

Suzy starts expressing her doubts about her methods after Misty leaves, but Brock and Ash quickly assure her not to give up on what she believes in, and that they have to stick up for what's on the inside together. Suzy wonders how it can be done, but Brock has a plan. If customers want to put style over substance, then give them substance with style.

Soon enough, Suzy, with the assistance of Ash and Brock, is giving a lecture on Pokémon Breeding and treatment. Suzy explains that if a Pokémon has been injured in a battle, it should be given a therapeutic massage. She is demonstrating on Pikachu as she explains.

Outside Salon Rockét, the crowd gradually disappears. Misty looks around in confusion, but then meets the person who had gotten the Chansey earlier. He explains that everyone's over at Suzy's, where she's giving a series of lectures on Pokémon care.

Back at Suzy's, Ash begins to demonstrate the massage technique they were taught on Pikachu. While Ash is giving the massage, Suzy explains that good communication between Pokémon and Trainer are vital to bring out a Pokémon's true personality. Brock adds that a technique is only as good as the trainer or breeder who uses it. Three of the trainers look at their over fashioned Pokémon and start to doubt if it was right.

Back at Salon Rockét, Jessie and James are putting the finishing touches on a Squirtle. James has an emotional artist moment about roses being the flowers of love and romance, though he mentions they also paint daffodils. The Squirtle simply shrugs and sighs. It doesn't seem to be a fan of its new look.

Jessie orders Meowth to send in the next customer, tout suite. Meowth complains that it's counting money, but then realizes there's only one customer left. Jessie and James don't care, and Meowth's starting to worry that maybe they're forgetting what the point of this scam really is.

Misty then enters with Psyduck. Team Rocket reacts with shock when they realize who it is, but quickly compose themselves. They then drag Misty in, despite her protests that Psyduck was the one who needed the fashion makeover, but when she sees the results, she loves them. She asks if they try even more, and Jessie and James happily oblige.

Meowth suddenly butts in, saying that she hangs around with that Pikachu. Misty recognizes him instantly, and Jessie and James start stomping and elbow-dropping him respectively for blowing their cover. Meowth angrily slashes them, ripping off their disguises and revealing them as Team Rocket.

Misty screams that she'll never tell them anything, but James threatens to paint her face like Frankenstein if she doesn't. She quickly mulls it over, then starts screaming for Psyduck. But wait a minute, Psyduck is gone!

Psyduck is racing back to Suzy's Breeder Salon, where it goes into one of its usual Psyduck panics. Pikachu realizes instantly what it's saying: Misty's in danger! Pikachu takes off, Brock and Ash following. They make their way back to Salon Rockét, where they face off against Team Rocket.

But then they see Misty, and wonder what happened to her face. They manage to restrain their laughter, and demand they let Misty go. Team Rocket refuses, claiming they're conducting "important beauty research" on her.

This starts an argument between Suzy and Team Rocket about the beauty inside and the beauty outside. Meowth, however, interrupts, because they don't know anything about breeding. The whole Salon Rockét was designed as a scam all along!

To quote Meowth, "It was a brilliant plan! Part 1: Come up with some dumb Pokémon fashions and take piles of money from gullible trainers. Part 2: If a trainer brought in a rare Pokémon, they would distract the trainer, then steal the Pokémon on the spot!" (Note that the crowd has now gathered around, so they heard the whole thing.)

Team Rocket offers a trade: Misty for Pikachu. Ash isn't about to take any deals, however, and challenges them to a battle. Team Rocket, however, has prepared for this, and pushes a button on a Microphone, presenting the Salon Rockét Battling Platform! They proceed to give a new variation of their motto:

*Jessie: And now, Salon Rockét presents a Fashion extravaganza and Pokémon Battlethon! To protect the world from boring fashion!
*James: To dress all people with flash and passion!
*Jessie: To give all Pokémon pretty faces!
*James: To extend our art to outer spaces!
*Jessie: Jessie!
*James: James!
*Jessie: Salon Rockét: When it comes to chic, we know what's right!
*James: Surrender your taste or prepare to fight!

Jessie sends out Ekans, and James sends out Koffing, both of whom are still dressed in their ridiculous outfits. Ash sends out Pikachu, and Brock uses Brock. Brock orders a Seismic Toss, and Geodude carries Ekans into the air and flings him down. However, Ekans turns the momentum of the throw into a spinning wheel strike that shoots to slam into Pikachu.

Ash orders a ThunderShock, but the spinning of Koffing and Ekans makes their extravagant outfits deflect the lightning. James then orders a Sludge, which blinds both Pikachu and Geodude. But as they're sent in for the finisher, they end up tripping over their outfits, causing what James calls a fashion disaster.

Meowth then leaps in to get Ekans and Koffing going again, and they charge in for the finish, but then Vulpix cuts in. Suzy calls that if you only focus on outer beauty, a Pokémon's inner strength will be lost. And Vulpix drives the point home with a powerful Fire Spin that sends Team Rocket blasting off again.

After checking in with Dexter, who talks about Fire Spin, Brock explains to the crowd that there was first-hand proof that a cute exterior hides inner strength. The crowd, taking the words to heart, begin to remove all the flashy items from their Pokémon and wipe off the applied makeup. Meanwhile, Misty, who couldn't quite escape being roasted once again by Vulpix's flame, is chewing out Psyduck for running out on her.

Back at Suzy's salon, Suzy thanks Ash and his friends for helping her regain confidence in her beliefs. Suzy was very impressed with the way Brock handled his Pokémon in a crisis, and understands that there's a journey ahead of herself too. She plans to leave the salon for a while and go on a journey to learn what it truly means to be a Pokémon breeder, which makes her and Brock rivals.

Vulpix then begins rubbing against Brock's leg. Suzy admits that Brock is the first person other than herself that Vulpix has been friendly with, and asks that Brock take care of Vulpix for her. Brock gratefully accepts, and catches Vulpix. Ash and Misty are happy, but then Ash gets a look at her face and tries vainly to restrain his hysterical chuckling, much to Misty's anger.

Soon enough, Ash, Misty and Brock are on their way once again, standing to wave goodbye to Suzy. Behind them, Team Rocket goes running past, pursued by a crowd of former customers.

*James: Now we need a total makeover! So no one will recognize us!
*Jessie: They're all just jealous because they're not pretty enough to wear our designs!
*All: Back to the drawing board!

So long, Salon Rockét!
* Two of the accomplishments that Suzie earned are different between the Japanese and the English versions. In the Japanese version, she was just mentioned to be nominated as Trainer of the year, and that she was ranked as number one in terms of Pokémon Breeding for four years in a row. The English version had listed her as being called the most popular Pokémon Breeder for four years straight, and had a hugely popular website that had 10,000 hits per day.
* Misty's response to Ash in regards to Psyduck and her was different between the Japanese version and the English version. In the Japanese version, Misty was saying she's the cute one. The English version, on the other hand, had her asking what did Ash know about fashion.
Note: Although Fighting-type attacks normally have no effect on Ghost-type Pokémon, the moves Foresight and Odor Sleuth, as well as the ability Scrappy, allow both Normal-type and Fighting-type moves to affect Ghost-type Pokémon.

Characteristics
As of Generation IV, the Fighting-type, along with Ice and Ground, is often considered a key offensive type in the game. In the past, the type was not as effective thanks to the power of the Psychics, but now their useful resistances and vast type coverage allow many Fighting-types to sweep freely.

Defensively, the Fighting-type is acceptable. While many Fighting-types have below-average defenses, resistances to Dark and Rock are key.

Offensively, the Fighting-type is very powerful. It hits five different types with super-effective damage, more than any other type except for the Ground-type, with which it ties. It deals super-effective damage to Rock and Steel, types which generally have high Defense, and is the only type super-effective against Normal. It is super-effective against Ice, a key offensive but low defensive type. It is also one of the two types super-effective against Dark. This is slightly balanced out by the fact that Ghosts are immune to Fighting attacks without the aid of Foresight/Odor Sleuth or the Scrappy ability. In the first three generations, there were very few powerful Fighting-type moves, but this has changed with the introduction of Close Combat and increased availability of moves such as Superpower. If should be noted that the offensive combination Fighting and Ghost is resisted by no Pokémon, as only the theoretical typing Normal/Ghost would resist it.

When used in contests, Fighting-type moves typically become Cool or Tough, but can also be of two other Contest categories. No Fighting-type moves are of the Cute category.

In total, there are 25 Pokémon with the Fighting-type.
Trivia
* With the exception of Arceus holding a Plate, there has yet to be a Fighting-type legendary Pokémon.
** Arceus holding a Fist Plate is also the only quadrupedal Fighting-type Pokémon.
* As of Generation IV, the Fighting-type is the only type that has not been paired with the Flying.
* All of the legendary golems, including Regigigas, are weak to Fighting moves.
* No Fighting-type move can hit both foes in a double battle.
* Along with the Ground, Fighting-type moves are super effective against the most Pokémon types: five.
* Fighting is the only type to have two variations of Quick Attack: Mach Punch and Vacuum Wave.
* As of Generation II, the Fighting-type (along with Bug) are one of only two pairs of different types to share the same interaction against each other (Bug resists Fighting and vice versa). The other pair is Normal and Ghost (Normal is immune to Ghost and vice versa).
*There has been one Elite Four member or Gym-Leader specializing in Fighting in every generation.
In the games
In Diamond, Flint is the third member of the Sinnoh Elite Four. He is friends with Volkner, the Gym Leader of Sunyshore City.

Flint first encounters the player in Sunyshore City, informing him about the recent blackouts and Volkner's disillusionment as a Gym Leader. He asks the player to bring back the excitement of Pokémon battles to Volkner before seemingly returning to the Pokémon League.

In Platinum, Flint and Volkner challenge the player and their rival to a double battle upon their arrival to the new Battle Frontier.

"Yo Trainer! You had me counting the days on my fingers waiting for you to come. I heard from Volkner what you did in Sunyshore. You managed to light a fire in that guy's heart again. How could you not expect me to look forward to seeing you in battle?

"...! I wasn't expecting this! I wasn't looking down on you... But I didn't think for one second that I'd lose! This is fantastic! You and your Pokémon are inspiring!"
Trivia
* Although he specializes in Fires, in Pokémon Diamond and Pearl only two of the five Pokémon he uses are actually Fire-type, with only eight Fire-type moves between them and only four of these are actual attacking moves. In Pokémon Platinum, his entire team consists of his specialty type.
* Flint's Magmortar is the only Pokémon of a member of the Elite Four to use seals in Platinum. Incidentally, it is used in the double battle with Volkner, who uses his Electivire, the only Pokémon of a Gym Leader to have seals.
* When talking to Volkner in the Villa, he reveals that the reason that Flint uses the Fire is because of his name.
