In the games
Professor Rowan works in Sandgem Town with Dawn/Lucas and their family. This makes him the only Professor from the handheld games that does not live in the player's hometown. He left to go to Kanto to study Pokémon with Professor Oak for four years, until coming back reaching a conclusion: that Sinnoh holds greater secrets. He has a stern personality that makes him seem intimidating, but he is actually very kind and patient. Rowan says he still feels a thrill whenever he travels anywhere with his Pokémon. He apparently has a sweet tooth, as the refrigerator in his laboratory is full of nothing but sweets and candy.

Rowan's particular field of study is Pokémon evolution, having discovered that 90% of all Pokémon are connected in some way to others through evolution. He is also interested in determining if evolution is supposed to be a form of Pokémon reaching maturity, or a way for an "incomplete" being to become "more complete", and the implications that the process has on legendary Pokémon, which don't evolve.

In the manga
In Pokémon Special, he gave Platina three Pokétches, three Pokédexes and Turtwig (for Diamond), Chimchar (for Pearl), and Piplup (for herself)

In Pokémon DP Adventure!, Professor Rowan adopted Hareta as a grandson. However, on seeing Hareta's ability to understand the souls of Pokémon, he felt it was best to leave him out in the forest with his Pokémon friends to care for him. He did not see Hareta again for four years. Deciding it would help the boy to travel and see the world, the Professor decided he should be a Pokémon Trainer and travel with his assistant, Mitsumi, and one of his Pokémon, Piplup.
Trivia
*Rowan's Japanese name is actually the word for the rowan tree. After much speculation that it would be a direct translation, it was revealed that his name would be Rowan in the English translation, continuing the long-standing pattern of professors named for trees.
*Rowan's studies naming 90% of all Pokémon as related through evolution are only close to true even as of Generation IV, as there are 77 Pokémon that do not evolve into or from any others, 35 being legendary Pokémon, giving a total of 84% that are related by evolution. However, if those studies didn't count legendary Pokémon, the 90% estimate would be correct.
*Unlike Oak who wants the Pokédex to be filled by capturing all 150 Pokémon, Rowan prefers the player to merely see all 150.
*He is the only Professor not to be found in the player's hometown.
*Along with Professor Elm of Johto, he is the only regional professor who does not have a blood relative present as a character in his respective game.
Snorlax (Japanese: カビゴン Kabigon) is a Normal Pokémon.

It evolves from Munchlax via Happiness.

In the Generation I and II games, as well as FireRed and LeafGreen, wild Snorlax can be found sleeping in inconvenient locations throughout Kanto. In order to catch one, a trainer must first awaken it with music from either a Poké Flute or PokéGear.

Biology
Physiology
Snorlax's body is composed of mostly its belly, where most of its fat reserves accumulate. It wakes up only to eat and seldom exercises. Its head is also large, and it has two pointed teeth sticking out. Its feet are extremely large compared to most Pokémon, assisting its balance when it chooses to stand. Its arms are short, but are long enough for Snorlax to reach out, grab its lunch, and put it in its mouth. Snorlax's big belly provides huge amounts of defense, thus, not many predators bother preying on it. It is dark blue in color.
Gender differences
None.

Special abilities
When trained and exercised properly, Snorlax can gain supreme strength and ability.

Behavior
Snorlax spend the majority of their time sleeping, surviving on their stored fat. Many Snorlax only awaken once a month, spending their waking time finding more food. A hungry Snorlax isn't satisfied until it consumes 900 pounds of food, and then it goes back to sleep. If one ever sees a sleeping Snorlax, he or she should not wake it up, because these Pokémon become very grumpy if their peaceful dreams become interrupted. Several Psychic Pokémon using Dream Eater find this out the hard way.

Habitat
Snorlax are often in mountains and forests. However, they sometimes wander into towns and streets and sleep there.

Diet
Pokémon food

Snorlax is not very picky, and will eat anything and everything that is edible. Upon finding something new on its territory, a resident Snorlax will put it in its mouth to see if it's something that can be eaten. Snorlax are fond of large, thorny vines as a snack item.

In the anime
Snorlax first appeared in Wake Up Snorlax!. This Snorlax was blocking the water flow to a small village.

In Snack Attack!, a Snorlax was eating the grapefuits of the Grapefruit Islands. Ash managed to capture it near the end of the episode. After the adventures in the Orange Islands, Ash's Snorlax spent most of its time at Professor Oak's lab.

Training Daze featured a red Snorlax which Jessie, James and MTR, while competing with Butch, Cassidy and Raticate, were sent to steal in order to become official Team Rocket field agents. The Snorlax turned out to be Viper, the Team Rocket Academy Drill Sergeant, in disguise.

In Lights, Camerupt, Action, a Snorlax was a sheriff in a western-themed Pokémon movie.

In The Garden of Eatin, another Snorlax was causing trouble for a man named Marcel by eating the bananas in his Slakoth Banana Garden. Marcell's newly evolved Vigoroth defeated the Snorlax, allowing him to capture it. Afterwards, Marcell made an attraction around his new Snorlax: a relaxation room.

A Snorlax also appeared near the end of Destiny Deoxys, evolving from Munchlax in order to stay afloat during a 'flood' of malfunctioning robots.

In Queen of the Serpentine, a Snorlax made a cameo as one of Lucy's pets.

Roman, who appeared in A Full Course Tag Battle!, owns a Snorlax.

When released from a Poké Ball, Snorlax will fly up into the air before descending over a large area of the screen with a Body Slam that sends any opponent underneath flying.

Snorlax is also a Pokéfloat. It is in its sleeping form and so fighting occurs on its head and belly.

Trophy information
Snorlax love to sleep and love to eat: these portly Pokémon get grumpy if they don't get 888 pounds of food per day. After snacking out, they always nap. They have cast-iron stomachs and can eat moldy and even rotten food with no digestion problems. They are the heaviest Pokémon on record, weighing in at over 1,000 pounds.
Trivia
* Until Generation III, Snorlax was the heaviest Pokémon. It was later out-massed by both Metagross and Groudon. In Generation IV, Dialga and both forms of Giratina are heavier than it as well, setting it back to its present state of the sixth-heaviest Pokémon known.
* Snorlax has the fifth highest base HP of all Pokémon, after Blissey, Chansey, Wobbuffet, and Wailord, in that order.
* Snorlax could learn or know the move Headbutt from Generation I to Generation III, but can't naturally learn it as of Generation IV.
* There is no sprite in which Snorlax is shown standing up or with its eyes open.
* At 110, Snorlax and Dodrio have the highest base Attack stat of all Generation I Normal-types.
* In Generations I to III, Snorlax could learn Hyper Beam by leveling up. However, in Generation IV, possibly due to the Physical/Special split, Snorlax can no longer learn it by leveling up and instead can learn Giga Impact, Hyper Beam's physical variant.

Origin
It may be loosely based on hibernation bears or teddy bears.
Name origin
Snorlax's name is a combination of snore and lax. The lax in its name might also come from relax. Its Japanese name may come from an alternate reading of sleep, 寐 bi, and a corruption of 鼾酔 kansui, snoring, or 憩う ikou, rest. It may also incorporate mold, 黴 kabi, noting the fact that Snorlax will eat anything, even moldy food. 잠만보 is derived from "Sleepy-head"

Trivia
*Misdreavus's name can be said two ways. In the Pokémon: Diamond and Pearl, it is said mis-dre-vis. In Pokémon: Battle Frontier, it is said mis-dree-vus.
*Misdreavus was the first pure Ghost Pokémon to be introduced. It's also the first Ghost-type to not be part of the Gastly evolution line and the only Ghost Pokémon to be introduced in Generation II.
*Misdreavus's first two anime appearances both involved legendary beasts (Raikou and Entei).
*Despite being "Screech" Pokemon, Misdreavus cannot learn the move Screech, except by breeding.

Origin
It is likely that Misdreavus was based on a banshee, a female spirit from Gaelic folklore who was known for its unearthly wailing and screaming.

Name origin
Misdreavus's name is a misspelling of mischievous. It is also possible that reave, or rob, was incorporated into the name, while another possibility is the addition of dread was incorporated into the name, or the word "dreary". Its Japanese name, Muma, is probably a corruption of of 夢魔 muma, nightmare, or a demon in a dream.
