The Eviolite (Japanese: しんかのきせき Evolution Stone) is a type of held item introduced in Generation V. It boosts the Defense and Special Defense of a Pokémon that holds it if the holder is not fully evolved.

|}
|}

Effect
If held by a Pokémon that is not fully evolved, its Defense and Special Defense are raised by 50%.

The Eviolite only affects Pokémon if their form and species has a non-zero value in their "personal data", (internal data that determines the basic traits of any given Pokémon), for an Evolution method, regardless of whether that Evolution method is legitimately accessible.

While this functions as expected for most species/forms, there are some notable unusual cases such as instances where an Evolution method "exists" but is inaccessible, as well as some hardcoded exclusions:
* If only the regional form of a species can evolve (such as Farfetch'd, Corsola and Qwilfish), only the regional form is affected by the Eviolite.
* Meltan is not affected by the Eviolite, because it cannot evolve in the core series games, only being able to evolve in GO.
* It does not affect Cosplay Pikachu, Pikachu in a cap, or Eternal Flower Floette, as those specific forms have no Evolution method coded, even though the base species is capable of evolving.
* It does not affect Pikachu, Meowth, or Eevee while they have the Gigantamax, as they are hardcoded not to evolve unless the Gigantamax Factor is removed via Max Soup, as well as being hardcoded to not receive the Eviolite boost if they have the Gigantamax Factor.
* It does affect male Combee and Salandit, despite only female Combee and Salandit being capable of Evolution, as they are the same species and form as their female counterparts and therefore share the "non-zero Evolution value" in their personal data.
* It did not affect Ursaring or Stantler before Pokémon Legends: Arceus or Girafarig, Dunsparce or Duraludon before Generation IX, as all were considered to be fully evolved at the time, before receiving evolved forms.
* It does affect certain Pokémon that are capable of Evolution despite it being impossible to meet the requirements for their Evolution.
** In Sword and Shield, Galarian Slowpoke was affected by the Eviolite before the Galarica Cuff or Galarica Wreath were made available in the Pokémon Sword and Shield Expansion Pass.
** In Scarlet and Violet, it affects Ursaring and Stantler despite their Evolution methods being inaccessible within Scarlet and Violet. Hisuian Qwilfish was also similarly affected for the same reason before The Indigo Disk added its Evolution method into Overqwil.
**Prior to Hydrapple's introduction in The Indigo Disk, Dipplin was affected by the Eviolite.
*If held by a transformed Pokémon, the boost is based on its original species, not the species it is transformed into.
In a recent screenshot release, I couldn't help but notice that Leafeon's PBW sprite resembles the Diamond and Pearl one. It's one of the less recent articles CURRENTLY on the home page of Serebii.net if anyone wants to go look and confirm. - TommoPuppy 15:14, 25 August 2010 (UTC)
According to Serebii.net, if we train Eevee at least one level at Yaguruma Forest, it will evolve to Leafeon, I have tested and it works! Can someone add this to the article?
Evolving in Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl
The Evolution data states that starting with generation 8 Eevee evolves into Leafeon with the use of Leaf Stone, however that's not the case for generation 4 remakes - there it only evolves when leveling up near Moss Rock. The Glaceon page actually does not have this problem as there's an added sentence "The Ice Stone is not obtainable in Pokémon Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl, so Eevee can only evolve into Glaceon with the Ice Rock." However in BDSP Leaf Stone is obtainable - it just doesn't trigger evolution. And although I can edit the page, I don't know how to make the sentence sound correct and up to the Bulbapedia standards. So I require a bit of assistance, I guess. == Ukrainian voice-over for first 4 seasons ==
It was figured out that first 4 seasons, although produced at the same studio as Russian dub, were voice by only 2 voice actors - Dmytro Zavadsʹkyy and Lidiya Murashchenko for male and female voices respectively. Same duo probably voiced the movies too. Shararamosh (talk) 02:28, 11 April 2026 (UTC)

Regarding the name origin, I've been told that pikapika is an "expression for the brightness of gold", not simply just meaning sparkle. Can someone confirm? --Archaic 13:26, 18 Apr 2005 (UTC)

It is a very broad sound symbolism for sparkle - from daiya-ga pikapika hikaru (diamonds sparkle) to pikapika-no kagu (well-polished furniture), from hoshi-ga pikapika hikaru (stars twinkle) to pikapika-no ichinensei (not even going to try to figure this one out).
Honestly, Pikachu has the best name in my opinion, as it can have obvious meanings in both Japanese and English. As stated, Japanese has pikapika (sparkle) + chuchu (squeak). PLUS Pika (animal related to rabbit) and chu being homophonous to the English word "chew", like gnaw, as a rodent does. ^^ Official evidence or no, you have to admit it'd be some coincidence if the world's most popular Pokémon just happened to be the only one with such a perfectly suited name, neh? :3 Heart of Thorns 23:34, 30 September 2008 (UTC)
Kanto Native?
I noticed that in the games, Pikachu can only be found "in the wild" in the Kanto Region. In GSC, Pikachu was only on Route 2 in Kanto, in RSE, it was only in the Safari Zone, which contained only "imported" Pokemon (that is, no Generation III Pokemon), and in DP, it's only in the Trophy Garden, a place that's basically confirmed to be importing Pokemon from other regions.

These "coincidences" lead me to believe that Pikachu is native to the Kanto Region, and its appearance everywhere else is due to humans bringing them to other locals.

Ignoring anamonlies like Pokemon Ranger, would it be a stretch to say that Pikachu are normally found only in Kanto as a piece of Trivia?--PikamasterADV 19:37, 23 May 2007 (UTC)
:::Because it's a "Side Game". And then you include the "wild" Pikachu in Mystery Dungeon, the Pikachu in Trozei!, and the "gift" Pikachu in PBR and Japanese Colosseum. Ranger also has Wild Starter Pokemon, Wild Fossils, and other anomolies, so I didn't include it. It was mostly a thought about the core RPGs. --PikamasterADV 20:34, 24 May 2007 (UTC)
::::Your anomolies don't mean much. The Trozei Pokémon are not wild, nor are the gift Pokémon. Orre only has nine wild Pokémon, none of which cause issues. Mystery Dungeon is set in a different dimension. However, Fiore is an established region with links to the world of the main RPGs. Starter Pokémon have to be found wild somewhere so being specific to Fiore where trainers are not found makes a lot of sense. The only fossil there is Aerodactyl, which is suitably found in an ancient area, not that fossils are that special any more.
It says "5%" to capture a Pikachu holding a Light Ball, which should mean one in every 20. However, it took me to capture almost 40 in order to get a Light Ball. (38 captured to be exact, with 7 encounters that fled.) Wouldn't this mean that the chance of capturing a Pikachu with a Light Ball is less than 5%? FrozenStrategy 13:49, 3 July 2010 (UTC)
:I don't think the hold rates for wild hold items go below five percent. With 38 individuals if the rate is correct there is a chance of 0.00749 (3 sig. fig., If I did the maths right), or about 0.75% chance of that occurring. Unlikely, but you may have just been unlucky. Legendary Pokémon, Veekun, Psypoke and Marrilland all say it's five percent as well. If you have the patience, try it again. == Pikachu trivia ==

Hey! I'm sorta new here, but I have something to bring up for the Trivia section:
Pikachu is the only starter Pokémon to have only 2 species in its evolution chain in the game it was a starter in (in Pokémon Yellow, there was no Pichu- only Pikachu and Raichu). For every other starter, both before and since Yellow, the evo chain is 3 Pokémon (Charmander, Charmeleon, Charizard). However, since Gold/Silver/Crystal, Pikachu has had a 3-link evo chain like every other starter.

I'm not experienced enough at wiki editing to do this- I have this feeling I'm gonna break some rule and get the part erased, or get banned, or something.ThePoketrix (talk) 12:47, 27 July 2012 (UTC)
Sprites?
The 5th Generation sprites are all mixed up. The four non-Shiny sprites for BW and B2W2 are the same, all with a closed mouth like the Platinum sprite, while the Shiny sprites for the four games all have the open mouth. Also, the female Shiny sprite in BW has the extra black on the ears, which the non-Shiny is lacking. The sprites seem to all be there, just not in the right places. I don't know how to fix them, just thought I should point it out.Magentafeelings (talk) 19:01, 2 March 2013 (UTC)
:Generation V actually has inconsistent spriting for Pikachu within the games themselves. The animated sprites (Pokédex forms function and battle) have open mouths as the first frame, while the statics (PC Box and all other Pokédex functions) have closed mouths. Because the normal sprites are animated, and the shiny sprites currently are not, that is why they are inconsistent. Additionally, the same problem is true for the ear inconsistency. In Black and White, the aforementioned static sprites had the Platinum-style ear coloring for female Pikachu, while the males had the updated ear coloring. Black 2 and White 2 repaired that specific inconsistency of the static sprites. Nothing is incorrect for the sprite versions that are currently supplied. - <span class="sc" style="color:#DA70D6;">Kogoro</span> - <span class="sc" style="color:#FFB6C1;">Talk to me</span> - 19:56, 2 March 2013 (UTC)
Nintendo101 (talk) 02:11, 1 July 2013 (UTC)
:I removed it because I don't feel physical comparisons between Pokemon that aren't canonically related are noteworthy. I'm of grouping together the so-called Pikachu clones that are clearly made for marketing purposes (Pikachu, Plusle/Minun, Pachirisu, and to a lesser extent Emolga), but Marill and Cinccino have no business being grouped there at all unless we're going to mention every Pokemon with a similar body style on every Pokemon page, which would be ridiculous. Also, I object to the way it was phrased ("related to"/"distantly related to") because it's inherently speculatory and suggests a degree of genetic similarity that has no canonical suggestion of even existing in the Pokemon universe, much less being possible between these particular families. == Some additions (and question about sign languages) ==

Would there be a way to add "I love Malamar" in sign languages? (ASL, BSL, etc.) Through glossing, video, etc.

Some additions as well:

Λατρεύω το Μάλαμαρ! - Greek (I don't know what grammatical gender Malamar would have in Greek; usually loawords would take on the gender of the original or based n the ending of the word, but since English/Malamar has no grammatical gender, and because -ar isn't a native ending in Greek, I went with the neuter "το". Native Greek speakers can correct me on this one.

Jeg elsker Malamar! - Danish (Like for a lot of languages, it can be a bit hard to find information on distinguishing phrases for romantic love from those for nonromantic. From my understanding, saying "Jeg elsker [object]" is a bit like saying "I love [object]" in English, where the phrase can be interpreted as romantic, but for animals/objects, that isn't necessarily the case. Again, native speakers please correct me on this.)

Malamar amo! - Latin (free word order, went with object first to emphasize our great Malamar. Having more issues with grammatical gender and declensions with this one. If you want to make a declension table for "Malamar", be my guest.)
For Latin, assuming that the Latin name for Malamar would be Malamārius (as the origin of the name extends to Italian calamaro from Latin calamārius), it would be "Malamārium amō!" assuming I've correctly translated that. ::(I don't know how to set up a table yet in Bulbapedia's MediaWiki editor lol)
::I might go through the effort of doing this for every Pokémon some day but I'm just an amateur linguist and conlanger, so somebody who has actually studied Latin academically can probably do it better than I can PiplupRox (talk) 17:36, 8 September 2025 (UTC)
:::As an extension of that last bit, I'm also only learning Yiddish. Not a native speaker, and I'm not fluent (yet), but saying "I love [something]" is one of the first things I learnt. Also, alternatively, Malamar's Yiddish name could be borrowed from German Calamanero, which would make it קאַלאַמאַנעראָ (Kalamanero); either way Yiddish doesn't distinguish nominative and accusative for most nouns from what I understand, so the phrasing would be the same. ::::I replaced the existing Latin translation with yours, and added Yiddish, but with the name changed to קאַלאַמאַנעראָ (Kalamanero). And why not Pig Latin as well: "Iway Ovelay Alamarmay" Biblical Bambi (talk) 19:30, 8 September 2025 (UTC)
:I added Old English, but decided to not add Pig Latin because it's not really a language, only a variation on it that even depends on the base language. <span style="background:linear-gradient(90deg,#f83,#3fa);background-clip:text;color:transparent">C.Ezra.M</span> (talk | contribs) 19:36, 8 September 2025 (UTC)
