The Mastermind of Mirage Pokémon (Japanese: 戦慄のミラージュポケモン The Terrifying Mirage Pokémon) is a special episode of the Pokémon anime. It was first broadcast in USA on April 29, 2006, and was downloadable from the TV Tokyo Anitere web site from October 13 to October 31, 2006.

Many fans believe the special to be testing ground for new voice actors (See Pokémon USA recasting controversy), but Pokémon USA's response is the company wanted to give a special to American fans.

In the special, Ash, Misty, and Professor Oak are invited to the mansion of Dr. Yung, a Pokémon scientist who has developed a machine to create Pokémon. However, he is kidnapped by a mysterious stranger who wishes to use the system to produce Pokémon with absolutely no weaknesses, and is enraged by the sudden presence of Mew...
spoilers
Synopsis
Ash is rereading his letter, inviting him to Dr. Yung's lab, to Brock, May, and Max. When he gets there, he is shocked to see Misty and Professor Oak. Dr. Yung appears, and shows them a few mirage Pokémon. He invites Misty to battle one. Misty's Staryu against a mirage Aggron. She is shocked that Staryu's most powerful attacks don't even make it blink. Staryu goes out quickly. Ash begins to battle when the Armaldo suddenly locks up. Yung's Mirage Pokémon System has mysteriously locked up! The controller explodes in his hands, and a handful of legendary Pokémon appear. A stranger, calling himself Mirage Master, uses the system he has just hijacked to his advantage, kidnapping Professor Oak and Dr. Yung. Ash and company cannot get back inside because a bunch of mirage Pokémon stand just inside.

Oak, in the custody of Mirage Master, demands to know where Dr. Yung is. Mirage Master ignores his query, and demands the password to Professor Oak's research lab. Oak refuses. A Mew flies in. Professor Oak is greeting it when Mew is attacked. The Professor demands to know why Mirage Master did that. The Mirage Master says that Mew was a failed creation, and he tells Mew to leave.

Ash, Misty, Brock, May, and Max formulate a plan. Ash and Misty will sneak in through the moat, Brock will alert Officer Jenny (with the intention of receiving a candlelight dinner for two), and May and Max will wait in case Ash and Misty get in trouble. They split up. Ash and Misty use Corphish and Staryu to get in.

Team Rocket, after the Mirage System Plans, are looking around. They attempt to burst through a door, only to have it hit them in the noses! Ash and Misty walk through, Team Rocket does the motto, thereby wasting enough time for Mirage Master to check the camera. Team Rocket escapes, Ash, Misty, and Pikachu are held by two mirage Machamp and a mirage Ursaring. As the three are being carried, Ash sees Mew appear again, and Pikachu uses Thunder. Some various things are blown up, including a wall, signaling to May and Max. May goes in, and tells Max to wait. Pikachu frees all of them, Misty falls over the edge of the bridge, and Pikachu is recaptured, leaving Ash and Mew. Mew is suddenly trapped by a force field, and Ash manages to get Mew free. Ash discovers that Mew is a mirage Pokémon.

Pikachu is in a fearsome-looking device. Professor Oak asks what the Mirage Master is doing. Mirage Master says he will extract Pokémon data from Pikachu's memory, and that this would not be needed if Oak was cooperative. Pikachu contorts with pain. He looks at the picture. Lugia... Entei... Celebi... Latios... Latias... These are all rare Pokémon Pikachu has seen. Oak cannot stand the look of Pikachu, and enters in the password: REDGREEN. Suddenly, Mirage Master has the ability to download information from places around the world. Tracey, Professors Elm, and Birch stare at computers in their labs, while Nurse Joy deals with problems at the Pokémon Center.

"You have to believe me, Officer!" Brock pleads to Officer Jenny. "We need to go to Professor Yung's lab for a candlelight dinner... I mean-" Nurse Joy flickers onto the officer's computer. She tells the officer that someone is downloading massive amounts of Pokémon data. Brock tells her about Mirage Master, and they leave.

Misty is hanging on a bridge. She suddenly loses her grip, and May appears in the nick of time to save her. They go upstairs. Ash and Mew are there already, and the process of creating the Pokémon finishes in a flash of light. A mirage Mewtwo emerges. He attacks them, and they run. Outside of the boundaries of the Mirage System, the heroes think they are safe... A halo of missiles launch from the towers, and they expand the system! Mewtwo and Mirage Master emerge. Mirage Entei, Articuno, and Zapdos suddenly appear. Oak correctly guesses the identity of the Mirage Master. Mirage Master removes his mask, revealing Dr. Yung! Oak reveals that when Mirage Master first appeared, he was a hologram, and that Yung was expelled from the Pokémon Institute for his research, deemed disrespectful to Pokémon. Yung's Mewtwo and Ash and company battle. Yung is about to obliterate Pikachu when Mew takes the blow. Me then is absorbed into the Mirage System. Yung says "good riddance," and Mewtwo absorbs the entire Mirage System database. Ash is enraged that Mew is called a failed creation, and the attack begins anew.

Team Rocket is blown away in this fight. Pikachu is about to be killed when Mew holds Mewtwo back! Ash orders Pikachu to perform Volt Tackle, and Mewtwo is destroyed, as are Mew and the System. The fortress is now aflame, and Yung retreats inside. The police are looking, as are firefighters, but they cannot find him yet.

Pokémon Gold and Silver (Japanese: ポケットモンスター 金・銀 Pocket Monsters Gold and Silver) were the first Generation II games to be released &mdash; November 21, 1999 in Japan and October 11, 2000 in the US. However, they had been in development for at least 2 years before then.

1997: First Mention of Pocket Monsters 2 Gold & Silver
In 1997, Nintendo put the first details and screenshots of their next Pocket Monsters game online. It was initially named "Pocket Monsters 2 Gold & Silver", and was developed for Game Boy and Super Game Boy and was planned for release at the end of the same year.

One of the main points posted was the addition of a skateboard as a secondary transportation method besides the bicycle from the previous games. It was said that the skateboard would allow the player to go to unusual places. Also mentioned in the releases were the integrated RTC (Real Time Clock), additional evolutions for Red/Green/Blue Pokémon, breeding and Pokémon eggs, 100 new Pokémon boosting the total amount to 251, new technical and hidden machines, new attacks, and better in-battle graphics. The game's communication abilities were also improved, adding trading and fighting between each version and backwards compatibility with R/G/B.

First Media Release Pictures
The initial logo of Pokémon 2, differing significantly from the final design.

Four early release Pokémon. From left to right: Donfan (Donphan), Denryuu (Ampharos), Yadoking (Slowking) and Houou (Ho-oh).

These images were possibly released a little later after the game changed format to the Game Boy Color due to the presence of colour on the sprites shown on this image.

New Pokemon unveiling in the anime
The anime also provided early looks at the new Pokemon. Ho-oh had already appeared in the first episode in the anime as an unidentified creature. Later, during the first Kanto season. Togepi was the first Gold and Silver and Baby Pokemon to be revealed. The first movie and the Orange Islands season also introduced Marill and Snubbull.

First Screenshots
The color scheme was not as varied as the one provided by the Game Boy Color; this town was also ultimately either changed into Azalea Town (Perhaps with Sprout Tower at left) or removed altogether.
<br clear="both" />

This screenshot displays an area which, with little modification, made it into the game's final cut. Replace the water with trees and fences and open a path to the right, and a simplified version of Route 35 and the National Park's southern entrance materialize.
<br clear="both" />

What is probably an early design for the Johto Radio Tower is in the right-hand side of the screen.
<br clear="both" />

Early game screenshots of Pokemon Gold and Silver generally didn't look all that much different from Red, Blue and Green at this point. The pictures clearly show the games' engine being in a more developed but still early stage. The lack of battle images would seem to indicate that a redone battle system had not been implemented yet.

1998: Pokémon Gold & Silver Announced
Pocket Monsters 2 was not released in the end of 1997 as originally stated. The expected release date was removed. The title was changed to Pocket Monsters Gold & Silver, dropping the 2.

1999 - New information
<gallery>
Image:1999_trailer_titlescr.png
</gallery>

Following nearly a year without press releases, the Nintendo site was updated with new information on Pokémon Gold and Silver. It gave information on the revised release date (June 1999) and stated that it was to be compatable with the as-yet-unreleased Game Boy Color.

<br clear="both" />
Artwork for Yadoking (Slowking), Marill, Kireihana (Bellossom) and Hoho (Hoothoot) were released.
</gallery>

The first screenshots of the Pokémon G/S battle system, most prominently featuring several Pokémon in their new full color GBC graphics, were also released.
The battle screens are very similar to the final ones; however, the absence of gender notation is apparent. Pokémon gender was a previously announced feature, and the display of gender was likely added later as a convenience to players.
The attack stats window, which in the final version tells you the remaining and total PP of each attack and its type was not fully completed at this point in development.

A screen cap from a video of Gold and Silvers battle mode has the player battling a wild Togepi, something that was impossible to do in the final without cheating, though it could be a possiblity that Togepi was enabled as a wild character just for show in the video.
The new Pokédex is still missing a few features from the final edition; the Pokémon's number is not displayed beneath its picture and the footprint in the top right corner is missing, as are the three options near the bottom of the screen - location, cry and print.
Present Day: Beta Leftovers and Early Characters
Since Pokemon Gold and Silver was released, other things have been uncovered that reveal interesting details about the games' development. The final games have full beta maps of every single Johto town remaining in their ROM, most of which are significantly different from their final counterparts. One particular beta map found in the ROM seems to be detailing the Safari Zone, which didn't make it into the final game itself.

Images have also since been found of various early ideas for the new Pokemon, including early prototypes of Qwilfish, Chikorita and Marill.
Hi everyone, my name is Rubyrulez and I am an avid Pokemon fan. Some of you might probably recognize me from The PokeCommunity, PPN, or recently, from Serebii Forums.

I also enjoy writing fanfiction. I started out with a FanFic based on the Pokemon Gold and Silver video games, but that fic was scrapped due to loss of interest. I got into RPG Maker and Pokemon Fangames, and I worked on my own, called Pokemon: Dawn Version. I lost interest in game making, but I based my most recent fanfic, called Pokemon: Lento Legends on my Pokemon Fangame. I've recently started working on a Radioplay of the FanFic due to the fics popularity.

I doubt it. Gender is very rarely indicated in Pokemon, and usually only when breeding comes up (IE - we know Ash's Charizard is male because it was interest in a female, Tracey's Marril is a girl because it laid an egg). Ritchie (Also Richie, Japanese: ヒロシ Hiroshi) is a nominally recurring Pokémon trainer in the Pokémon anime. His Japanese seiyu is 高山みなみ Minami Takayama his English voice actress is Tara Jayne, and his Brazilian Portuguese voice actors are Alex Wendel (Indigo League), Francisco Freitas (Whirl Islands) and Thiago Longo (Pokémon Chronicles). He is named after Hiroshi Yamauchi, former President of Nintendo. His Japanese name means "far and wide" (溥), while his English name is a diminiuitive for Richard, which is generally agreed to mean "brave power" in Germanic (from the elements ric "power, rule, ruler" and hard "brave, hardy").

Ritchie is often seen as a clone of Ash Ketchum and what the show would be like if Ash was perfect. He is disliked by many fans, including the website, Pokemopolis.

In the anime
Ritchie first appeared in A Friend In Deed and quickly befriended his fellow Pokémon League competitor, Ash Ketchum. This led to problems in the next episode, Friend or Foe Alike, since the two were matched up to battle against each other. Ritchie won the match, since at the very end Ash's Charizard refused to fight what it considered a weaker opponent and took a nap on the battlefield instead.

Ritchie showed up again in the anime when Ash and friends visited the Whirl Islands, starting in A Parent Trapped! He was searching for a mysterious Pokémon found there, which turned out to be a Lugia.

He also appeared in three Pokémon Chronicles episodes, Oaknapped, Celebi and Joy and The Search for the Legend. The second of these makes him one of three notable characters to travel backwards through time with the aid of Celebi, the other characters being May and Meowth.

* Eevee (Only ever referred to in the dub)

In the games
The only game Ritchie appears in was Pokémon Puzzle League. However, some have speculated that, like Ash, he was based off the hero from Pokémon Red and Blue. In fact, besides differences in color, his outfit closely parallels that of the hero's original design.

In the manga
Ritchie was one of the characters in the Electric Tale of Pikachu manga.

Pokémon: Battle Frontier is the ninth season of Pokémon, and the final season of the Advanced Generation dub. It follows Ash Ketchum as he continues to collect symbols from the Battle Frontier while May participates in Pokémon Contests in Kanto. It began with Fear Factor Phony which originally aired on September 8, 2006 and is expected to end with AG191.

The dub unwent many changes at the start of this season. Pokémon USA took the dubbing rights from 4Kids Entertainment, resulting the recasting controversy. Meanwhile, Kids WB dropped all anime from its lineup leading to Cartoon Network picking up the series.

It is preceded by Pokémon: Advanced Battle and succeed by the as-of-yet unnamed season that starts the saga based on the upcoming Diamond and Pearl games. It should be noted that the concept of seasons does not exist in Japan. An invention of the dub, a season is the only way to differentiate one story arc, such as Advanced Battle, from any other in the Pocket Monsters Advanced Generation series.
