'''Lumiose City''' (Japanese: '''ミアレシティ''' ''Miare City'') is a large city nestled in the north-central part of the [[Kalos]] [[region]]. It is a prominent central hub of the region and is the most populous city in the Pokémon world.

Tourism is a major industry of the city due to its famous landmarks, such as the [[Lumiose Gym|Prism Tower]], which serves as the city's symbol, and the [[Lumiose Museum]]. A wide variety of shops, cafés, and restaurants are spread throughout the entire city and are popular with both tourists and locals alike.

The outer portion of the city is lined by tall office buildings and wide brick and cobblestone boulevards, while the avenues of the inner portion are lined by smaller Parisian-style buildings. The wide roadways throughout the city afford safe and easy passage for both automobile and {{p|Gogoat}} traffic. A large canal also runs diagonally through the city.

Lumiose City has five gates connecting it to outside routes. In the southeast is the {{rt|4|Kalos}} Gate, in the southwest the {{rt|5|Kalos}} Gate, in the northwest the {{rt|13|Kalos}} Gate, in the north the {{rt|14|Kalos}} Gate, and in the northeast the {{rt|16|Kalos}} Gate.

Many small shops and cafés line the many streets and avenues of Lumiose City. This is a brief guide to the city's layout and where all of its establishments are located.

The city is basically shaped like a spoked wheel. The outside "wheel" is split into North and South Boulevards, while the spokes are divided among several avenues and plazas. The boulevards and avenues are lined with the city's many establishments, while the plazas are primarily open gathering spaces, with an occasional establishment or two on the outskirts. The center hub is devoted to a wide, open area with Prism Tower at its center.

All of the avenues and plazas are connected by a continuous ring near the hub, but occasionally there will also be an alleyway connecting two of the spokes farther out from the hub. A group of randomly battlable Trainers also lurk around this inner part of the city.

The city's spokes are laid out in the order given below, moving through them in a clockwise direction starting from the first spoke connected to South Boulevard. The left and right sides referred to below presume the player is facing out from the hub.

Prism Tower is a large tower located in Centrico Plaza in the middle of Lumiose City. It houses the [[Lumiose Gym|Lumiose City Gym]]. Prism Tower is based on the real-world Eiffel Tower in Paris, France. It is also a [[Prism Tower (stage)|playable stage]] in [[Super Smash Bros. for Nintendo 3DS/Wii U|Super Smash Bros. for Nintendo 3DS]] and [[Super Smash Bros. Ultimate]].

===North Boulevard===
====Galette Stand====
A small stand located on the North Boulevard outside Autumnal Avenue that sells [[Lumiose Galette]]s for {{pdollar}}100 ({{pdollar}}80 if the player has at least 50 points of style). The stand only sells freshly baked galettes, which last four hours at a time starting at 3 AM, 9 AM, 3 PM, and 9 PM. Once per day, if the player purchases a galette within an hour of the time they were baked, the player will also receive a free [[Moomoo Milk]].

====Lumiose Museum====

A large, white building that houses many paintings of people and locations in the Pokémon world. Entrance is free, but an audio guide is available for {{pdollar}}200 (or for free if the player has at least 90 points of style).

====Hotel Richissime====

A large, black luxury hotel located near the middle of North Boulevard. Each day, the player can be paid for completing certain tasks in the hotel.

====Battle Institute====

The Battle Institute on the North Boulevard works in the same way as the one in [[Nimbasa City]] in [[Unova]]. The player can opt for a Battle Test (five consecutive single or double battles) or a Download Test (which can be downloaded either wirelessly or via Wi-Fi at certain time, similar to event Pokémon). The player can win [[Battle Point|BP]] here.

====Lumiose Station====
A very large train station located on the far eastern half of the North Boulevard. Upon defeating the Elite Four and becoming the Champion, Professor Sycamore will meet the player here and give them the [[TMV Pass]] which allows them to board the train to [[Kiloude City]].

====Looker Bureau====
[[Looker]]'s headquarters during the post-game storyline are located in a narrow street between North Boulevard and Rouge Plaza. It is initially empty, but Looker settles in after the player enters the Hall of Fame and upgrades the [[Key Stone|Mega Ring]].

After completing all the Looker Bureau chapters, the player can battle [[Emma]] in the Expansion Suit (as Essentia) here on Tuesday, Thursday, and Saturday.

===South Boulevard===
This is the first part of Lumiose City that the player can explore in Pokémon X and Y, along with Vernal Avenue. The other parts are blocked until the player has defeated [[Team Flare]] at the [[Kalos Power Plant]] and watched [[Clemont]] relight the [[Lumiose Gym]].

====PR Video Studio ====

A purple building where Trainer PR Videos can be created, located directly across from the South Boulevard Pokémon Center. PR Videos filmed here can be shared with passers-by and people who have been given the player's [[Nintendo 3DS]] [[Friend Code]].

When the player reaches sufficient stylishness, the woman at the right counter will add new video effects for PR Videos. She will add two different sets: one if the player has at least 25 points of style, and the other for at least 90 points of style.

====Sycamore Pokémon Lab====
[[Professor Sycamore]]'s Pokémon research lab is located directly opposite Vernal Avenue. It is here where the player can receive either {{p|Bulbasaur}}, {{p|Charmander}}, or {{p|Squirtle}} upon defeating Professor Sycamore in a Pokémon battle early in the game, as well as their corresponding Mega Stone. After the player enters the Hall of Fame, they can return to the lab to get the [[Poké Radar]] from one of the scientists on the second floor.

On the second floor, the player can change {{p|Rotom}}'s {{DL|List of Pokémon with form differences|Rotom|forms}}.

====Coiffure Clips====
A small hairdresser located opposite the {{rt|5|Kalos}} Gate. The player can have their hair colored and styled here.

The prices and options are slightly different for male and female players. If a female player requests a styling, she may choose to have the stylist style only her front hair or all of her hair (including her front hair, as a secondary option).

A shop that specializes in {{p|Furfrou}} grooming. The player may buy a trim for a Furfrou in their party for {{PDollar}}500. Trims last for five days or until the Furfrou is deposited in the [[PC]]. The shop initially only offers Star, Diamond, or Heart Trims (as well as the option to return it to a natural look), but as the player gains style, more trims become available. At 10 points of style, the La Reine, Kabuki, and Pharaoh Trims become available, while the Debutante, Matron, and Dandy Trims are available at 50 points of style.

====Herboriste====
A specialty shop that sells [[herbal medicine]]s.

====Stone Emporium====
A specialty shop that sells [[evolutionary stone]]s. A man in the store will offer to sell the player the remaining [[Mega Stone]]s for the two [[Kanto]] [[starter Pokémon]] they did not receive from [[Professor Sycamore]]. The price of these Mega Stones begins at {{pdollar}}1,000,000 but will decrease as the player becomes more [[#Style|stylish]], eventually being available for only {{pdollar}}10,000. After defeating the Elite Four, the owner will first offer the Mega Stone for the Kanto starter that is super-effective to the one chosen by the player.

====Boutique Couture====
A designer fashion and luxury boutique. The first floor sells only women's clothing, whereas the second floor sells only men's clothing. The player is only granted access to the boutique once they have at least 25 points of style. The [[Clothing|clothes and accessories]] sold here have much higher prices than those sold at other boutiques across Kalos.

Lumiose City has four restaurants located on South Boulevard (Restaurant Le Nah), Autumnal Avenue (Restaurant Le Yeah), Hibernal Avenue (Restaurant Le Wow), and near Rogue Plaza (Sushi High Roller). At each restaurant, the player can pay to be served a meal where the server will battle the player before each course. After finishing a meal, the player will receive a reward: a number of some [[valuable item]], depending on which restaurant the player is in and how well they did.

===Lysandre Café===

A red café located near Magenta Plaza. It grants the player access to [[Lysandre Labs]], one of [[Team Flare]]'s hideouts in the Kalos region. Despite the small size, it serves as an important location in both the main plot line and the after story sideline plot with [[Xerosic]].

===Lumi Cab===
Lumi Cab is a taxi service with stops located all around Lumiose City, enabling the player to easily travel directly to many locations in the sprawling city. The base fare is {{PDollar}}710, but it increases the further away from the destination the taxi starts. All of the destinations are internally assigned to a section of the city, and those destinations in the same section share the same cost, with those in the same section as the taxi starts in costing the cheapest.

Once the player reaches a certain level of stylishness, the driver will start giving a 50% discount on the fare. If the player does not have enough money to pay for the ride, the {{tc|driver}} will challenge them to a battle.

The possible destinations are shown below, with the section the destination belongs to noted after the location. Destinations on the Boulevards are split between East and West destinations in addition to North and South, while more internal destinations (mostly on Avenues) are only differentiated by North or South.

Finally, at 90 points of style, more people will appear in Café Gallant (on Estival Avenue) and, on North Boulevard, in the westernmost building, Café Triste, and Lumiose Station.

Ash wanted to challenge the [[Gym]] there, but was denied access by [[Clembot]] for not having enough [[Badge]]s. He then fell several feet, where he was saved by {{an|Clemont}} and {{an|Bonnie}}. This is also where Ash had his first Kalos {{pkmn|battle}}, using {{AP|Pikachu}} against [[Clemont's Bunnelby]]. However, the battle was interrupted by {{TRT}}, who was trying to snatch Pikachu. The group was saved by a {{pkmn2|wild}} {{p|Froakie}}, who was injured in the process, and taken to Professor Sycamore's lab. Following the events of Professor Sycamore's {{p|Garchomp}} going out of control, in ''[[XY002|Lumiose City Pursuit!]]'', Ash and {{ashfr}} left Lumiose City in ''[[XY003|A Battle of Aerial Mobility!]]''. {{an|Serena}} first arrived at Lumiose City at the end of the episode, where she chose {{TP|Serena|Fennekin}} as her starter Pokémon at Professor Sycamore's lab in [[XY004|the next episode]].

Ash and his friends along with {{an|Serena}} arrived again at Lumiose City in ''[[XY008|Grooming Furfrou!]]'', where they went to a grooming salon owned by [[Sherman]]. In ''[[XY009|Clemont's Got a Secret!]]'', the group went to the Lumiose Gym for Clemont to get the ownership of the Gym back from [[Clembot]]. Finally, in ''[[XY010|Mega-Mega Meowth Madness!]]'', the group went back to Professor Sycamore's lab, where Clemont was given a {{TP|Clemont|Chespin}}, after which they left the city again.

In ''[[XY062|The Future Is Now, Thanks to Determination!]]'', Clemont returned to Lumiose City on his own via helicopter to train for his upcoming Gym battle with Ash.

Ash, Serena, and Bonnie reunited with Clemont in ''[[XY066|Confronting the Darkness!]]'' for Ash's Gym battle against Clemont. However, the match was interrupted by [[Officer Jenny]] who arrested Clembot for the crimes committed by [[Dark Clembot]] and [[Belmondo]], who were eventually found outside [[Lumiose Museum]]. Lumiose University, an electronics store, a high-end boutique, and a 3 star hotel were also featured in this episode. In ''[[XY067|The Moment of Lumiose Truth!]]'', Ash eventually had his Gym battle against Clemont and his Bunnelby, {{TP|Clemont|Heliolisk}}, and {{TP|Clemont|Luxray}}, and won with his {{TP|Ash|Pikachu}}, {{TP|Ash|Hawlucha}}, and {{TP|Ash|Goodra}}. This victory earned Ash the {{badge|Voltage}}, his fifth Kalos League Badge overall. Following the Gym battle, the group took a visit to Professor Sycamore again in ''[[XY068|Garchomp's Mega Bond!]]'', after which they left the city.

As revealed in ''[[XY121|Seeing the Forest for the Trees!]]'', Lumiose City would be the site of the Kalos League. The [[Lumiose Conference]] began in ''[[XY125|A League of His Own!]]'' and ended in ''[[XY131|Down to the Fiery Finish!]]'', with [[Alain]] as the victor. As the closing ceremonies were underway, [[Team Flare]], having secretly taken over the Prism Tower, took control of [[Z2]] and forced it to transform into its 50% Forme. After doing so, it attacked the city with massive roots, causing serious damage to it, Prism Tower, and the stadium where the Lumiose Conference was taking place.

Lumiose City was put under siege by Team Flare, using the roots created by Zygarde, from ''[[XY132|A Towering Takeover!]]'' to ''[[XY136|Forming a More Perfect Union!]]''. In ''[[XY137|Battling with a Clean Slate!]]'' and ''[[XY138|The First Day of the Rest of Your Life!]]'', after the Team Flare crisis ended, Lumiose City began a process of rebuilding. In ''[[XY140|Till We Compete Again!]]'', Ash and the gang returned to Lumiose City to bid farewell to Alain, Mairin, and Professor Sycamore before Ash and Serena left the Kalos region for [[Pallet Town]] and [[Hoenn]], respectively. After both Ash and Serena departed through the Lumiose airport, Clemont and Bonnie returned to Prism Tower.

In [[SS037]], {{an|Cilan}} visited Lumiose City for a [[fishing]] tournament, where he met Clemont and Bonnie, asking the former to take him to Prism Tower. On the way, the trio also explored the Lumiose Subway system. After getting to see the tower, Cilan departed to go see the [[Tower of Mastery]] in [[Shalour City]].

Lumiose City first appeared in ''[[PAXY04|They Have a Flare for a Li'l Kanga-Napping]]'' and ''[[PAXY05|Kangaskhan...Kangascan't]]'', where [[Professor Sycamore]] showed [[Lysandre]] the footage of {{p|Xerneas}} and {{p|Yveltal}}'s battle in [[Vaniville Town]], sent to him by {{adv|Trevor}}.

The city reappared in ''[[PAXY08|What Does Charmander Do When It Dozes?]]'', where {{adv|X}}, {{adv|Y}}, {{adv|Tierno}}, Trevor, {{adv|Shauna}} arrived in the city. Following Trevor's suggestion, the group decided to visit Professor Sycamore, delivering his lost [[Salamè|Charmander]] back to him in the process. Seeing X's negative mood, Sycamore decided to cheer him up by challenging him to a battle. After the battle, Sycamore gave Charmander to X, and was also surprised to find out that X had come to accept the [[Marisso|Chespin]] he had sent to him.

Meanwhile, Trevor had his broken [[Holo Caster]] fixed by Lysandre, although he felt himself extremely nervous around the man's presence, having recognized his figure from one of the pictures taken during Vaniville Town's destruction. Lysandre later sent his Pokémon to surround the children, but they were saved by the arrival of [[Diantha]].

The group later visited the [[Lumiose Gym|Prism Tower]] in order to ask Professor Sycamore about something they forgot before, not aware that the interview Professor Sycamore had gone to have at the tower was already over. Once there, the group found [[Alexa]] being attacked by the [[Lumiose Press editor-in-chief]], who, having allied with [[Team Flare]], was trying to silence Alexa to keep her from spilling out the truth about the destruction of Vaniville Town. X battled and defeated the editor-in-chief, allowing the group to escape the city. An [[Élec|Electrike]] from the tower had become interested in X, and subsequently started following them as they left Lumiose City.

The group returned to Lumiose City at the end of the {{chap|X & Y}}. Much to their shock, the people of Lumiose City seemed to be completely unaware of the recent events and treated them like scum. Despite this, they stopped AZ's seeming attempt to use the [[ultimate weapon]] again, leading to the weapon's key getting destroyed. AZ then revealed that he was merely testing them to see if they'd choose the same path as Team Flare. Having felt a change in AZ's heart, his long-lost {{p|Floette}} then returned to him. Professor Sycamore suggested a parade for the group to celebrate them saving the Kalos region, but they declined the offer. Three months later, Shauna, Tierno, and Trevor had all moved to Lumiose City, with Shauna becoming a {{p|Furfrou}} stylist, Tierno teaching the {{tc|Lumiose Gang Member|Lumiose Gang}} how to dance, and Trevor taking over [[Sina]] and [[Dexio]]'s role as Sycamore's [[Professors' aides|assistant]], while the duo headed to the [[Alola]] region to study the sightings of {{p|Zygarde}} made there.

* A woman beside Café Bataille explains that the two {{p|Skiddo}} in front of Lumiose Station were abandoned by their Trainer, and wait by the station for his return. This is a possible reference to the story of {{wp|Hachikō}}, an Akita dog who waited at the train station every day for his owner's return, even after his unexpected death. According to Nintendo.com, if the player saves the game in certain areas of Lumiose City, then ends the game, the controls will not respond when the saved game is reloaded. They provided a map indicating known areas where the glitch can occur, which includes the entire outer boulevards. On October 25, 2013, Nintendo released a patch for this glitch via the Nintendo eShop.

She first appeared in ''[[EP048|Holy Matrimony!]]'', where James returned to his parents' mansion in [[Kanto]] after receiving word that they had died. However, this was just a hoax to lure him into marrying Jessebelle; if he did marry her, he would receive his massive inheritance. However it soon became apparent that James was absolutely terrified of Jessebelle; he explained to [[Jessie]], {{MTR}}, {{Ash}} and {{ashfr}} how the marriage had been arranged when he and Jessebelle were young, and she had always been bossy. She would follow him around constantly tormenting him and telling him what to do and how he should do things. She was the main reason why James ran away from home.

Since he had not seen Jessebelle for years, James was shocked to discover that she had an almost [[Doppelgänger|identical appearance]] to [[Jessie]]. Jessebelle expelled Jessie, Meowth, and Ash's group from the home and chased James around the mansion's basement, threatening him with her {{p|Vileplume}}'s {{m|Stun Spore}} and a long whip. Eventually, Growlie broke out from its doghouse and came to rescue James from Jessebelle. The two had a Pokémon battle, with Growlie being victorious and Jessebelle running off the estate.

Jessebelle is, as demonstrated by her debut appearance, extremely controlling and obsessive. She is a stuck-up, elitist woman with a dominatrix personality, and her professed affection for James may very possibly be a front just to get at his parents' money, though his parents are oblivious to the possibility as they deem her to be their idea of a "perfect daughter-in-law."

She also was seen in a flashback in ''[[EP198|The Heartbreak of Brock]]''.

James still appears to not have changed his feelings on Jessebelle, who was seen in another flashback in ''[[DP002|Two Degrees of Separation!]]''. He was happy to visit his second summer home until he was told that Jessebelle was on her way there, and he, along with Jessie and Meowth, promptly left the premises. She reappeared in ''[[DP153|The Treasure Is All Mine!]]'', where she once again fiercely chased after her eternal run-away fiancé, much to his horror. In the same episode it was revealed the arrangement was actually made after James expressed interest in her while they were children. Unfortunately it wasn't until after the engagement was announced that James was exposed to her less than tolerable personality, apparently starting with her insulting his beloved pet {{p|Growlithe}}, [[Growlie]].

* Jessebelle's English name is both a pun on Jessie's name and a near-homonym of {{wp|Jezebel (Bible)|Jezebel}}.
** Also, "-belle" is a common suffix used in females' names, such as Lisabelle or Maybelle.
*** The term "belle" is also used to describe a southern young woman (southern-belle), which may relate to Jessebelle's steel-magnolia accent.
* There were 571 episodes between Jessebelle's first and second appearance, which is the longest time between a particular human character's first and second physical appearances within the show (while she did appear in ''[[DP002|Two Degrees of Separation!]]'', it was only in one of James's flashbacks).
* Despite her similarities to Jessie, Jessebelle's hair color has remained red throughout the series, while Jessie's turned purple when the coloring began to be done digitally in ''[[EP261|Here's Lookin' at You, Elekid]]''.
* Possibly because of her many similarities to Jessie, the voice actresses (in many countries) that have played Jessebelle are played by the same voice actresses who played Jessie.
