Since hedgehogs and porcupines are quite similar it wouldn't be surprising if its name was based on Chestnut and Puercoespín (Spanish for 'Porcupine'), they've used Spanish words for English names before so it wouldn't be that weird that they do that in this case. "Chespin" is also an anagram of the word "pinches." A rubbish anagram of it, but an anagram nonetheless. Usually I'd not say anything, given what a long shot that is, but there's got to be something clever going on with that name, it can't be from "pin," why would it be from "pin?" I think that Chespin's English name may be partially based on French like the Japanese name. A lot of French words end with 'in' (fin, butin, déclin, jardin, coussin, escarpin and hundreds more). Also, the French word for rabbit is 'la'''pin'''' while one possible name for a male rabbit (and hare) is 'bouqu'''in'''' Chespin certainly appears to be based off rodents, which hedgehogs, contrary to rabbits and porcupines, are not. I've also heard rumors that Chespin's evolution is called 'Chespinne' which would be the natural French feminine form of 'Chespin', like a female rabbit is 'lapine' and a female lion is 'lionne' (the male form being 'lion'). There's just something about Chespin's name that seems to have a French air to it, and it would be easily pronounceable in French though the pronunciation would differ greatly from the English one. And the fact that Fennekin also has that very French-y suffix 'in' seems to confirm the speculation that the new region draws inspiration from France, at least partially.
Maybe it should be added in the article that the French word 'marron' does not only mean 'chestnut' but also 'brown', the name including all shades of brown and not a particular shade like the English word 'maroon'. This could be a possible double entendre as Chespin is both brown and based on a chestnut.
Though this may be reaching too far out, the primary meaning of 'urchin' in English is 'a young boy who is poorly or raggedly dressed' or 'a street boy' which would translate into 'gallo'''pin'''' in French, according to google translate. 'Gallopin' is a slight pejorativ for a young, playful (street) boy like the English 'lout' or 'guttersnipe'. Another French word for the same concept is 'gam'''in'''. In my opinion, Chespin could in fact look a little like a playful and teasing male pokémon. Though there's likely no truth in this, Game Freak could have intended to play with the idea of the name that mischievous young boys share with hedgehogs: urchin. And on the note of sauropods and amphibians (the latter actually not being reptiles, which might bring up an unrelated question about {{p|Mudkip}}), the reason why I wasn't sure about the taxonomy is because of the different types of classifications and also because birds were once categorized as reptiles then somehow placed in their own class because of being warm-blooded (though I'm sure there is more to it than just than). Kinda confused me because dinosaurs are now considered warm-blooded and seem to have more in common with birds than reptiles in some groups, it is a number of "flip-flopping" in the sorting of these animals. And {{p|Bulbasaur}}, in some way drawing from its Japanese name, looks like a weird combination of different animals (not really sure what it is sometimes), with its pointed ears and its "frog-like" posture (well not always, I remember), I only thought it was a dinosaur because of its English name and that is a little deceiving (like {{p|Psyduck}} or {{p|Golduck}}). But I digress, let's just stick with the "first mammal" bit, it isn't going to hurt anybody. :Chestnut origin is confirmed and obvious due to the color, shell, and spines. I'm with the others in thinking that the origin section should say "porcupine or hedgehog". While most of his names reference hedgehogs, in Japanese and French the words for hedgehog can also be used to mean porcupine. Even by Pokemon standards of artistic license, Chespin looks very little like a hedgehog. The rodent-like body shape and incisors, tail thats more than a nub, in combination with the spines than can be bristled at will (admittedly a feature shared with hedgehogs) are very reminiscent of porcupines. He likely takes cues from both: they are both well-known, well-liked, prickly animals that can be combined with a chestnut motif to make for a good Pokemon, and the interchangeability of the names in many languages makes it easier on the translators for making portmanteaus or name puns. Even without Mudkip, Piplup would NOT be the first non reptile water starter, I'm not kidding. I think it would me more informative that every grass starter before Chespin had a strong reptilian resemblence or some indication of being a reptile. Being the first mammal is not as informative if you don' know what the other starters were and, in my opinion, doesn't feel as notable since Cyndaquil has the same trait, and Cyndaquil is the first mammal starter period. Mudkip is the first water type amphibian starter and Oshawott is the first mammal water starter. Just listing that might as well mean the other starters were anything but mammals instead of a trend.

== Improved voltorb flip calculator ==

It seems that the go-to calculator for this is at http://esper.vacau.com/voltorb/
While it's kinda nice, I'd really like something more robust. That calculator only does some basic probability calculations, which works for the most part, but I've been able to rule out spaces or find x2 or x3 spaces that the calculator ignored or got wrong. It does happen on a fairly regular basis.
By adding even some simple checks to the program, I think it could be greatly improved. And my big goal is to possibly make it perfect (or very close to perfect) using linear algebra concepts.

The reason I'm adding this is because I want to somehow get in contact with whoever wrote the calculator at http://esper.vacau.com/voltorb/ and collaborate with them to improve on it. I don't know if using linear algebra with this would even make sense, but it seems like it would be appropriate for this kind of game.

Unfortunately, since I'm super busy with classes right now, I can't dive into this project until the summer. I'm posting this now to see if I can at least get the ball rolling.

The wharf is considered the outer layer of the giant city, where many tall skyscrapers and important buildings stand. The [[Pokémon Center]] can be found along the eastern side of the wharf, as well as several other company buildings, for example, the Battle Company, and Passerby Analytics HQ.

====Battle Company====
The Battle Company is a multi-story building located on the corner of Mode Street along the wharf. The company is one of the lead researchers of battle items, and assists in the development of other items such as [[Poké Ball]]s, as well as goods for Pokémon and Trainers. An essential part of the research the company does is through battling, so most of the employees, who are usually {{tc|Clerk}}s and {{tc|Scientist}}s, are looking for a battle when they work. The stronger the employee is, the higher the floor they work on; however, only three floors are accessible to Trainers and visitors—the ground floor, floor 47 and floor 55. The head of the company works on the 55th floor, and disguises himself as a {{tc|Janitor}} to trick people. He will give the player an [[Exp. Share]] after he is defeated.

There are three floors that can be accessed by Trainers which are all connect by an elevator at the back of the building. The ground floor is reception and the visitors floor, where there are a few tables set up and a television. The 47th floor contains 6 employees, most of which can be battled. There are many office desks and cubicles, as well as computer systems and servers. The 55th floor is very much similar to the 47th floor, where there are several desks, cubicles and meeting places. There are four employees working on this floor as well as the president, who sits at the back of the room behind a desk.

====Passerby Analytics HQ====
The Passerby Analytics HQ is located on the corner of the street where Castelia Gym is. The building is small compared to the other larger skyscrapers around the city, and has only one floor upstairs. However, the building has a larger billboard attached to the roof promoting the headquarters and making it more noticeable. Inside the headquarters, a messy room contains several researchers who are working on surveys to ask to the public to get opinions and statistics. There is a job vacancy available for a statistician, who enjoys field work, which can be taken up by the player. If accepted, the {{player}} will receive a function for their [[C-Gear]] that allows the surveying of other players who pass by. The head of the headquarters will often give out request for the statistician which includes Head-count surveys and Timed surveys with varies questions. This can be done using the specific C-Gear function to ask other people for surveys.

The other researchers in the room will ask the newly-appointed statistician for things. One of the researchers will let the player change their greeting phrase for the C-Gear function, and the other will let the player change their departing phrase. Another researcher will conduct surveys which the player may answer. There are a few charts and graphs on the wall; the pie chart on the back wall will display the player's statistician rank, the number of times thanked before, and the number of people who have passed by.

===Ocean Side===

There are five piers on the waterfront where certain ferries are docked. Opposite the street in which the [[Castelia Gym|Gym]] resides is '''Liberty Pier'''. The ferry found here will take the {{player}} to [[Liberty Garden]] if the player has a [[Liberty Pass]]. '''Unity Pier''' is across from Narrow Street, and its ferry is transport to the [[Unity Tower]], which is only available after making an international [[trade]]. '''Prime Pier''' is across from Mode Street. Occasionally docked at Prime Pier is the Plasma Ship, a black boat that Team Plasma uses to get to Liberty Garden. A few of the local citizens have noticed the strange black boat and have become concerned. The fourth pier opposite Castelia Street, called '''Cruise Dock''', is where the [[Royal Unova]] is docked; however, it is only available after the player defeats the [[Elite Four]]. A short, unnamed pier lies directly south of the [[Skyarrow Bridge]] gate, where a couple of citizens relax. One of them will give away an [[evolutionary stone]], depending on where the Trainer wants to evolve a {{p|Pansage}}, {{p|Pansear}}, or {{p|Panpour}}.

===Castelia Street===
Castelia Street has many people coming and going, especially during the evenings when people are going home from work. This street has many tall skyscrapers and large buildings; however, it features the Game Freak HQ and a building where one Pokémon per day can receive a massage to increase its [[happiness]]. The 11th floor of that building, which is the only floor accessible for visitors, is almost empty, expect for a couple of people talking at the meeting table.

====Game Freak====
The [[Game Freak]] headquarters are located in a large building on Castelia Street's right side. The building has only one accessible floor—the 22nd floor where the Game Freak developers can be found. There a girl on the first floor who will tell a story about a Pokémon that can cause illusions, and then she will show the player a photo of {{p|Zorua}}, thus adding it to the [[Pokédex]], which is where the Zorua event takes place. On the 22nd floor, the office is similar to the other office building in Castelia City, with computers, cubicles, desks and servers around the place. Here is where the Game Freak developers are working on a game called "{{game|Black and White|s}}". The Game Director at the back of the room will give the player a [[Diploma]] if they complete the Regional Pokédex, as well as another Diploma if they fill up the [[National Pokédex]]. After defeating the [[Elite Four]], another Game Designer, [[Shigeki Morimoto|Morimoto]], will challenge the player to a battle, and the Sound Director will play a special [[Rocket Hideout]] theme.

===Mode Street===
Mode Street is another commuter-heavy street; however, it is not as large or as busy as Castelia Street. There are many trees and plants along its sides, giving the street a feeling of nature. Along the left side of Mode Street stands the famous Casteliacone, and along the right side of the street is Studio Castelia, a popular art gallery where people go to enjoy local artwork.

====Studio Castelia====
Studio Castelia is a small art gallery in central Castelia which displays and showcases many painting from artists who live in Castelia; however, it doesn't display any of [[Burgh]]'s paintings, because they he prefers to hang them in the [[Castelia Gym]]. Many artists from around Unova come to Castelia to get inspiration from [[Burgh]], and their paintings are hanging here. Currently, the studio is exhibiting works in the motif of legends of the Unova region, which have more to do with the myths of {{p|Reshiram}} and {{p|Zekrom}}. The owner of the studio likes to take walks along the Central Plaza and enjoys taking in the scenery and landscape with people and Pokémon. Every day, a {{tc|Harlequin}} inside will ask the player to bring him a Pokémon of a certain type, and for doing so he will reward the player with their choice of one of the first five [[Berry|Berries]].

====Casteliacone====

Casteliacone is a popular ice cream stand in Castelia City, which sells ice creams with the same name as the store. A single {{DL|Status ailment healing item|Casteliacone}} can be purchased once per week, every [[Tuesday]], for {{pdollar}}100, except in {{DL|Seasons|winter}}. The ice cream has the ability to cure a single Pokémon from all [[status ailment]]s. Due to its tremendous popularity, the Casteliacone is almost always sold out, with crowds of people coming across all parts of Unova, even as far as [[Accumula Town]] just to have a taste. The line for the famous sweet is always long, and sells out extremely quickly.

===Narrow Street===
Narrow Street is a back alley with a number of dumpsters and rubbish bins lined up against it. Like the name suggests, the street is very narrow, containing dark buildings, and shady people. Unlike any of the other streets, it is poorly lit and contains very few people, certainly not any rushing businesspeople trying to get to and from work. A man hiding behind one of the dumpsters who has lost his sunglasses will jump out and bump into the player, and give them {{TM|70|Flash}} for finding them. Some thugs can be seen hanging around the street not saying much, just laughing and smirking. One of the city's three {{tc|Dancer}}s is originally located here. There is only one accessible building on this street, an out-of-place café called Café Sonata.

====Café Sonata====
Café Sonata is a small café on the right side of Narrow Street. Many people come to the café to relax after a tiring day of work, and to listen to the {{tc|Musician}}'s guitar rhythm, who believes that a beautiful melody makes people happy and a sad melody makes people sorrowful. If a Trainer brings {{p|Meloetta}} to the Musician, he will teach it {{m|Relic Song}}. The manager of the café will give Trainers a [[Lemonade]] for coming into the store for the first time; however, no [[drink]]s or items can be bought after this.

===Gym Street===
Gym Street is a large street which contains its namesake, the [[Castelia Gym]].

====Castelia City Gym====

The Castelia Gym is the official [[Gym]] of Castelia City, located on the western-most street above the Liberty Pier. The Gym also doubles as a working art gallery. It is based on {{type2|Bug}} Pokémon. The [[Gym Leader]] is [[Burgh]]. The Castelia Gym is designed like a huge beehive. It contains many small hexagonal rooms, several which are cut off by walls of honey which are at first barricaded by gates. There are buttons which are placed in the center of most of the rooms, and if certain buttons are stepped on, they trigger the gates to descend. However, not all the buttons trigger the doors to descend—some make Trainers appear, who then be battled. The player is able to walk through the any wall of honey, as long as there is not a raised gate over it, allowing the player to navigate through the Gym and eventually reach Burgh. The Gym is also decorated with pictures painted by Burgh himself. For defeating Burgh, Trainers receive the {{badge|Insect}} and {{TM|76|Struggle Bug}}.

====Team Plasma hideout====
Across the street from the Gym is a strange, seemingly deserted building. When following a {{tc|Team Plasma Grunt}} to try to retrieve [[Bianca]]'s {{p|Munna}}, it is discovered that the building is currently housing [[Ghetsis]], [[Seven Sages|Bronius, and Rood]] along with several Grunts. Ghetsis reveals that they are using the building as a hideout as they thought it would be ironic to have a hideout opposite a Gym, but they had not expected to be discovered so soon. Team Plasma then leaves the building, leaving only a {{DL|In-battle effect item|Smoke Ball}}.

===Central Plaza===

The Central Plaza is a park located at the intersection of all the streets in Castelia City. There is a large following fountain that is said to bring people and Pokémon together. There are vending machines located here that sell [[drink]]s. A {{tc|Dancer}} named Mickey will give the player an [[Amulet Coin]] if they can round up two other Dancers in Castelia to form a dance team with him. The two other dancers that are located around the city are Edmond and Raymond, and they are located on Narrow Street and Unity Pier respectively.

Further along the Central Plaza is another street, that leads out on to {{rt|4|Unova}}. There are several tall skyscrapers along this street. On the left side is a building that contains the [[Name Rater]]. Here, Trainers can have the nicknames of their Pokémon rated and, if the Pokémon's ID number matches the [[Trainer ID number]], the nickname can be changed. If the Pokémon was caught by the player that currently owns it, he will say that the name could be better and offer the player the option of changing it. If the [[original Trainer]] of the Pokémon he's judging is not the player, he will say that the name is perfect and refuse to change it. Also, this building contains the Feeling Checker; however, she doesn't check Trainer's Pokémon, but offers advice about using the Feeling Check on the [[C-Gear]].

On the 11th floor, the only other floor available to visitors, the [[Relocator]] can be accessed; however, only after the correct password is given can the Relocator be used. The Relocator is used to transfer any of the four Pokémon distributed to commemorate the ''[[M13|Zoroark: Master of Illusions]]''—{{DL|List of Nintendo event Pokémon with in-game effects|Celebi}} and the {{Shiny}} [[legendary beasts]], {{DL|List of Nintendo event Pokémon with in-game effects|Raikou}}, {{DL|List of Nintendo event Pokémon with in-game effects|Entei}} and {{DL|List of Nintendo event Pokémon with in-game effects|Suicune}}.

There are two buildings accessible on the right-hand side of the street. One building is full of people who are taking a break from working, and give Trainers various items. On the 47th floor, the only other floor available to visitors, there is a man who will explain exactly what the effects are for each of the eight [[Gym]] [[badge]]s, similar to the person in [[Cerulean City]]. Another building located on the right side of the street, who are having a formal party on the 47th floor. After getting past the guard who is searching for suspicious goods, Trainers may go up and talk with people at the party, some speaking in foreign languages. Some of the people upstairs will give away items or TMs.

Castelia City's population is 130. Castelia City is the second most populous city in the [[Pokémon world]], behind its northern rival city, [[Nimbasa City]] while beating [[Goldenrod City]]'s population of 126.

Like in the games Castelia is a big city with an abundance of huge, colorful skyscrapers and shops with a long wharf. The [[Castelia Gym]] is located there. In the middle of Castelia City is a huge circular park called the Central Plaza this is where all the streets of Castellia link up to. Here there are trees, a lake, a few buildings and a huge fountain in the middle. A [[Pokémon Center]] is nearby. The [[Desert Resort]] can be seen in the horizon.

It made a brief cameo in [[BW021]] where a few skyscrapers can be seen from [[Skyarrow Bridge]], and again in [[Sallie]]'s flashback of {{p|Gothitelle}} in the alleyways. It appeared fully in [[BW022]] where {{Ash}}, {{an|Iris}} and {{an|Cilan}} arrived there. Cilan says about the famous for its ice cream - Hiun Ice which is located at the Casteliacone. Ash and his friends suddenly meet [[Burgh]] at the Central Plaza. Burgh is sensing something is wrong and they go down the underground sewage system that goes past the outskirts of Castelia to find the problem. Here they find a injured {{p|Venipede}}. Suddnenly a massive group of Venipede storm and attack the city.

Burgh becomes somewhat angry to find out that the [[Mayor of Castelia City|mayor]] plans to get rid of the Venipede using force and protests the idea. The mayor eventually decides to let him handle it. His idea was to find the leader of the Venipede and have [[Nurse Joy's Audino]] use {{m|Heal Pulse}} on it. He, Ash, and Iris eventually locate the leader only to see it be attacked by [[Trip]] and his {{p|Lampent}}. Burgh orders him to stop and tells him that he is only making things worse.

Once Nurse Joy's Audino uses Heal Pulse on the leader, Burgh plays his Insect Pipe and leads the Venipede out of the City. He sees Ash and his friends off at the end of the episode when they decided to go with [[Professor Juniper]] to investigate the Desert Resort.

Ash and his friends arrive back in Castelia City in [[BW025]] for a Gym Battle with Burgh. The Castelia Gym is located on Gym Street. Ash won against Burgh and his {{AP|Sewaddle|Swadloon}} [[Evolution|evolved]] into a {{p|Swadloon}}.

Route 3 starts off with a short simple path to the north after exiting Striaton City. Straight ahead is the [[Pokémon Day Care]] and a school where several {{tc|Preschooler}}s can be fought. The player can travel westwards to find two separate paths; a patch of tall grass is located to the north of this path. The player can continue to the west to find [[Wellspring Cave]] or to the south, which travels along the shore of a lake. The player can then cross it by a bridge to the west leading to [[Nacrene City]], past a few patches of tall grass.

After obtaining {{HM|03|Surf}}, the player can travel across the lake to the other side. On the west side of the lake, the player can find two patches of tall grass and a {{tc|Pokémon Breeder}}.

Route 3 makes an appearance in ''[[BW007|Snivy Plays Hard to Catch!]]'' to ''[[BW013|Minccino-Neat and Tidy!]]''. There is a small city and a town located in the route. There is also a train station near [[Nacrene City]].

In ''[[BW007|Snivy Plays Hard to Catch!]]'', it is shown to be a forest route with tall grass in some areas and vines hanging from the trees. It has a bog with huge lily pads in the forest and a small stream running through it. It is where {{Ash}} caught a {{AP|Snivy}}. The [[Wellspring Cave]] is located here.

A small city is also located here, as seen in ''[[BW008|Saving Darmanitan From the Bell!]]''. It has colorful buildings with shops and has a small bridge which allows people to enter the city. Trees and shrubbery surround it and a river runs through it. It also has a small [[Pokémon Center]] and a cafe is shown to be affiliated with [[Team Rocket]].

The most famous part of the city is the old clock tower which is now home to a {{p|Darmanitan}} and has a huge bell inside it. There is a long winding stairs, when at the top there is a room with a huge bell.

After the city is a forest path, as shown in ''[[BW009|The Bloom Is on Axew!]]''.

[[Luxuria Town]] is found after the path in ''[[BW010|A Rival Battle for Club Champ!]]'', where the second [[Battle Club]] is located. Then in ''[[BW011|A Home for Dwebble!]]'', there is a rocky terrain near a river. The [[Pokémon Day Care|Daycare center]] appears in ''[[BW012|Here Comes the Trubbish Squad!]]'' near a small town which has a garbage dump and a Kindergarten.

Past the Daycare center is another forest path. A [[Pokémon Center]] is located there, as shown in ''[[BW013|Minccino-Neat and Tidy!]]''.
