Usage on Pokémon in the midst of a move with a semi-invulnerable turn
My tests indicate that Transform cannot be used on a Pokémon who is in the midst of a move with a semi-invulnerable turn like Dig, Fly, and Bounce, at least in Generation IV. However, the pages for Dig and Fly both indicate that Transform will not miss on a Pokémon using these moves. But both of those pages list this under Generation I, so the behavior may have changed in Generation IV. :It's both, I think. Maybe the person who tested it originally didn't get that Ditto's HP down as far as he thought? I no longer have a GBC Link Cable to test it with, but if either the hold item or the catch rate is changing, then they both are - since they are the same data bit. Still, from my testing in Gen I, it looks like a Ditto is much easier to catch as something with low catch rate than as something with a high catch rate. As such, I bet it does transform its hold item as well. But again, I have no way to know for sure, as I lack the ability to trade to my Gen II games. --GoldenSandslash15 (talk) 23:52, 16 February 2013 (UTC)
::I just tested it on my Red: I encountered a L26 Ditto and had it transform into a Spearow, then got it to about 30% health and threw a Great Ball at it. The ball shook once before the Ditto broke out, whereas if it had Spearow's catch rate it would have been caught with certainty. Therefore, catch rate is definitely not copied. I can't see how you would test the Gen II item theory, though, since in a trade the Ditto appears as itself and IIRC you can't have a link battle between Gen I and Gen II games. :::"if either the hold item or the catch rate is changing, then they both are - since they are the same data bit" - that's not entirely true. The held item in Gen II is saved in the Pokémon's personal data structure, and in Gen I this is set to the Pokémon's catch rate upon capture; the catch rate is stored in the species data structure. As for testing it, the point I'm trying to make is that if you catch a Ditto after it transforms into a Spearow (it would need to be a Spearow caught in Gen I and has never been in Gen II), it would be holding a Berry when traded to Gen II rather than Metal Powder; or at least, that is what I'm proposing might happen. :::: This is a question that comes up frequently in my mind. Most glaringly about Lt. Surge. "He's the Lightning American" he's a military officer and he's been in a "War." I would like very much to know where these things occurred. For example: Is there an America? If we are assuming from the Anime that Japan is where many of the Pokemon games are set then we can also assume that since they go to Hollywood mention "Chinese Food" that there is a rest of the world, and it's similar to ours. Ok, so that much taken at face value...what war was he in? In Red and Blue there's some mention that there was a "War" and he was involved. in FR/LG other trainers and people claim that he saved them in the war, and that an electric Pokemon had saved him, and that he was a pilot. Possible I suppose, but then we are to glean from these tidbits, that 1) Lt. Surge is an Air Force or Navy pilot Officer, and 2) That Pokemon were used in warfare at least at some point in history. Which is the part of the Pokemon history I want to see cannon material about. --Ginocoolowski 20:52, 10 February 2009 (UTC)
Sprites have a limit on the number of colors they can contain, and to save space they probably just used a color from elsewhere on the sprite (in this case, the shading on his hair). --AndyPKMN (talk) 20:36, 2 May 2011 (UTC)
Pokémon Stadium (Japanese: ポケモンスタジアム), sometimes known as Pokémon Stadium 0 among English-speaking fans to distinguish it from the later sequels, is the first game of the Stadium series, and was released in Japan in 1998. This version featured only 42 Pokémon instead of all of the 151 Generation I Pokémon. As a result, not even every evolution family was included. This game was originally intended to make the finals of the tournaments held in Japan available for those who didn't participate in them, so that they could challenge the finalists with their own Pokémon. The demand for a complete game was high so an Nintendo 64DD expansion disk was announced shortly before the release of the game. As the 64DD was a commercial failure, a sequel with all of the Generation I Pokémon (known as the original Pokémon Stadium elsewhere in the world) was released instead.

Gameplay
The game starts with a keyboard, and it asks if the player or players would like to use their Game Boy Pokémon. If not, the player can only access the Battle Mode.
*Battle (バトル): Players can battle against other humans or computer-controlled opponents.

Many of these features were integrated into Oak's Lab in future Pokémon Stadium games.

Battle Mode
Battle Mode features two modes: Free Battle (フリーバトル) and Tournament (トーナメント).

Free Battle
In Free Battle, a player can battle against another human or a computer-controlled player under one of three rulesets: the L1-30 Division, the L50-55 Division, or Free Battle, where Pokémon of any level may be used.

There are eight pre-set Trainers with Pokémon ranging from level 20 to 100.

Tournament
This mode features two tournaments based upon official Pokémon tournaments.
*L1-30 Division: This tournament is based on the Nintendo Cup '98. There are four divisions: the Poké Ball, Great Ball, Ultra Ball, and Master Ball.
*L50-55 Division: This tournament is based on the Nintendo Cup '97. The total levels of the three Pokémon selected cannot exceed 155. The opponents in this mode are based on actual competitors in the 1997 tournament.

Unlike future Pokémon Stadiums, there are no Continues.

The credits roll after a tournament is cleared.

After one of the tournaments is cleared, the player obtains a Doduo Game Boy upgrade that allows the Game Boy games to be played with frame skip at double speed. When both tournaments are cleared, the Dodrio Game Boy is obtained, allowing the games to be played with frame skip at triple speed.

Pokémon
Pocket Monsters Stadium only featured 42 Pokémon available for play. Most of these Pokémon were used in official tournaments, with a few Pokémon added for type balance. Below is a list of the Pokémon that were included in the game.

While the other 109 Pokémon cannot be used in battle, their 3D sprites can still be viewed in the other modes.

Special Pokémon
If the player clears the Master Ball division of the L1-30 Division with a Pikachu in his or her party, the Pikachu can learn Surf. A Surfing Pikachu can also be obtained in the international Pokémon Stadium.

Trivia
* From the start, Nintendo had no plans on making a sequel or an expansion to this. The game was foremost a promotional game to increase the main series popularity. The stadium's sole purpose was to enable battling in 3D. The demand for a Pokémon 3D game on the N64 was answered with a separate project that Game Freak worked on simultaneously during the development of this game.
* Pikachu is the only Pokémon allowed to battle in this game that can still evolve in Generation I; in fact, Raichu does not appear in the game at all.
* The game received a lot of criticism because of the difficulty of this game. Mostly because in L1-30 Division lots of the opponents' Pokémon had powerful moves like Blizzard even though none of the rentals had them.
* This is the only game of the Stadium-series where Pikachu can learn Surf in the Japanese versions.
* The game is compatible with Yellow despite being released beforehand. A similar situation exists with Colosseum, which contains 3D models of the player characters from FireRed and LeafGreen even though Colosseum was released several months beforehand.
* During the credits, Caterpie, Weedle, Hitmonchan, Hitmonlee, Clefairy, and Jigglypuff are shown battling, even though these Pokémon cannot be used in the game.
* The game's name may be a reference to 64マリオスタジアム, a Nintendo-centric Japanese variety show that featured televised coverage of Pokémon tournaments.
Many couples consider it a prime dating spot.

Sea Cottage
The Sea Cottage (Japanese: みさきのこや Cape Cottage) is a small building located in the northeast of Kanto. It is on Cerulean Cape and is home to Bill.

In Generations I and III, the Sea Cottage is home to Bill. He was experimenting with his cellular teleportation device when he was accidentally turned into a Clefairy. After he is rescued, the player is rewarded with a ticket for the S.S. Anne. Also, Bill will insist that the player look at the rare Pokémon on his computer, Eevee, Flareon, Jolteon and Vaporeon.

In Generations II and IV, Bill's grandfather is housesitting and will ask players to show him certain Pokémon. In return, he will give out certain evolutionary stones.

In Generation IV, there is an area next to Bill's Sea Cottage. It is where Suicune can be found and caught after it has finished wandering throughout Johto and Kanto.
While the Sea Cottage does not appear in the anime, the lighthouse in Mystery at the Lighthouse fills the same purpose as the home of Bill. Ash and co. first stumbled across the lighthouse after he captured his Krabby and it disappeared. When Brock explained that Krabby was being sent to Professor Oak's Laboratory, Ash immediately wanted to call him to see if Krabby made it safely. Spotting the lighthouse, the gang decided to trek there.
One such date was interrupted in Generation II when the player encountered Misty at the land bridge between the two ponds following the restoration of power to Kanto. In HeartGold and SoulSilver, the date instead takes place on the hill located just east of the cottage.
Charmeleon (Japanese: リザード Lizardo) is a Fire Pokémon introduced in Generation I.

It evolves from Charmander starting at level 16, and evolves into Charizard starting at level 36.

Biology
Physiology
Charmeleon is a bipedal, reptilian creature similar to Charmander. It has crimson scales that are much darker than that of the bright orange Charmander. It has a tail with the tip burning with fire, a trait seen in many Fire Pokémon, especially the Charmander evolutionary line. Its skull has developed a horn-like protrusion to the rear and its mouth has elongated into a snout. Its front and back claws are far sharper and longer than Charmander.
Gender differences
None.
Special abilities
Charmeleon can Flamethrower. This fire is much hotter than Charmander's. This is a result of a larger flame burning at the tip of its tail than that of Charmander's.

It possesses incredibly large claws which it utilizes in its powerful Slash attack. Its tail is also very powerful, having enough strength to lift an adult man.

Behavior
Charmeleon tend to be stubborn, bad-tempered, and simply hot-headed. Due to their incredible power at such a low level, they can easily feel they are better than their trainers and will sometimes disregard attack commands. When tame, however, they are a formidable opponent and a loyal partner. Wild Charmeleon are ready to evolve when they begin to travel in different areas battling random opponents, and the flames on their tails begin to flash larger.

Habitat
Charmeleon are rare in the wild, but thrive in harsh environments such as craggy mountains and active volcanoes. Charmeleon also dwell in large numbers in abandoned mines and heated valleys. It is most likely to be found in Kanto.

Diet
Pokémon food
Charmeleon when in the wild will hunt solitary much unlike Charmander who hunt in packs. Their diet consists that of the average omnivorous Pokémon diet.

In the anime
Major appearances
Ash's Charmeleon
Ash's Charmander evolved into Charmeleon in March of the Exeggutor Squad. It quickly grew unruly and disobedient and evolved into Charizard soon after, in Attack of the Prehistoric Pokémon.

Ritchie's Charmeleon (Zippo)
Ritchie's Charmander, nicknamed Zippo, evolved into a Charmeleon off-screen and was first seen in its evolved form in A Parent Trapped.

Other
In The Crystal Onix, Mateo used a Charmeleon to make glass and battle the titular Crystal Onix.

Sam used a Charmeleon in Celebi: Voice of the Forest to battle the Iron-Masked Marauder.

A Charmeleon also appeared under the ownership of a trainer named Jimmy in Judgment Day.

Charmeleon also appeared in Once More With Reeling.

Blue's Charizard
Charmeleon debuts in Onix is On!, part of the Red, Green & Blue, battling in the Pewter Gym as one of Blue's Pokémon. It evolved from Charmander sometime between The Secret of Kangaskhan and this round. It has since evolved into Charizard with Blue's harsh training, and became even more powerful, assisting in the defeat of both the Team Rocket triads Koga and Sabrina, and continued to act as the powerhouse for both Blue and Red, in the two times it was (temporarily) traded to him since then.

In the Pokémon Zensho manga
In Pokémon Zensho, Satoshi has a Charmeleon that evolved from the Charmander he received from Professor Oak. It later evolves again into Charizard.
Trivia
* Charmeleon and Charizard share the same species name as Flareon, Moltres, and Infernape. They are all known as Flame Pokémon.
* Charmeleon is one of the two members of a Generation I evolution family of a starter Pokémon not to have appeared in the Super Smash Bros. series. The other member is Wartortle.
* Charmeleon and its evolution family are the only Pokémon who have flames as part of their bodies that do not go out naturally (with the Pokémon still being alive).
** However, in the console games, if the Pokémon is afflicted by a freeze, its flame will effectively stop burning.
* In Generation I, Charmeleon is capable of learning Leer. However, in Generation II and onwards, this move is replaced by Scary Face.
* Curiously, Charmeleon can learn Metal Claw via leveling up in FireRed and LeafGreen, but in Generation IV it can only learn it as an egg move, however this is most likely to make Brock easier to deal with.

Origin
Charmeleon resembles a small dinosaur with remnants of Charmander's salamander-like appearance. Although its nomenclature suggests commonality with the chameleon, Charmeleon exhibits very few of the major physiologically distinguishing traits of the chameleon. Charmeleon hasn't the specialized Dactyly#Zygodactyly feet, separately mobile eyes, extrudable tongue, or the ability to Chameleon#Change of color like some members of the chameleon species. The few characteristics it does share are the similarly looking snout, a prominent head crest (which resembles a small horn in its Generation I back sprite), and extensive use of its tail. Chameleons have prehensile tails used for climbing and grasping, while Charmeleon utilizes its tail as a weapon.

Name origin
Charmeleon's name is a portmanteau of the word char, to burn, and chameleon. Its Japanese name is a corruption of the Katakana spelling of lizard.
