Tajiri did not like school. His father wanted him to be an electrical utility repairman, but this is not what he wanted. In the late 1970s, the fields and ponds that Tajiri loved as a child were paved over by apartments and parking lots, and his idea for Pokémon grew, as he wanted to give modern children the chance to hunt for creatures as he did. Tajiri got into games when he was at technical school, spending all his time in arcades. He was such a big fan that one local arcade gave him a ''{{wp|Space Invaders}}'' machine to take home.

At 16 Tajiri won a contest sponsored by Nintendo rival {{wp|Sega}} for a game design concept.

When he first saw two children playing together using the Link Cable he imagined insects crawling along the cable between the two systems. The game will provide the player with all the information on acquiring the listed Pokémon, including information on a Pokémon's pre-evolved form, and if an item is needed to evolve it, where that item can be found. This can be used to both assist and motivate said player into completing their Pokédex. The player is given 10 days to acquire this Pokémon until the post is removed and a new one is made. "Wanted Pokémon" requests are tied to specific game cards, if one trainer deposits a Pokémon that is on another's wanted list, nothing will happen. Toys for Pokémon and Miis to play with are delivered to the ranch every day. The type of toys delivered randomly changes every day and the amount of toys depends on the size of the ranch. * Attractor - A magnetic device that Miis can use to draw Pokémon to them.
* Balloons - Balloons that a Pokémon can attach to their head in order to fly around

* Bounce back ball - A ball that, true to its name, bounces back to whoever touches it
* Burst ball - A large round explosive that explodes whenever Pokémon touch it, sending them flying.
* Challenger - A dummy for Pokémon to use their attacks on.
* Fountain - A water fountain that, when Pokémon or Miis jump on, increases in power to give them a brief lift.
* Leader Flag - A flag that Miis can use to lead a parade of Pokémon.
* Parade Drum - A drum that Miis can use to lead a parade of Pokémon.
* Pitfall - A hole that Pokémon and Miis can jump into. They return falling from the sky.
* Poké bell - A mii can use this to attract Pokémon with a ringing noise.
* Poké cushion - This can be placed on a Miis head so that Pokémon can jump and rest on it.
* Poké microphone - A Microphone that Pokémon can cry into. Their cries into the microphone will be heard through the Wii Remote's speaker
* Poké pendulum - A pendulum that attracts Pokémon with a hypnotic effect.
* Poké rocket - Pokémon can jump inside. Then, when the rocket aims, it launches the Pokémon.
* Pokémon pallet - A pallet that when used by a Pokémon, summons all of the Pokémon in a ranch to get together to form an image of the user's in-game sprite.
* Round rock - Pokémon can tackle the rock so that it moves. The Pokémon then try to dodge it. If they lose, they become run over and flattened.
* Slippery peel - A banana peel that trips Pokémon and Miis that step on it.
* Snowman - A Snowman that freezes Pokémon and Miis that get too close to it. Temporarily shrinks if a fire attack is used against it.
* Spin ride - It is shaped like a tree trunk. Pokémon and miis can jump on it and get a quick spin around.
* Spring stand - Pokémon can jump onto the stand and then will be sprung into the sky, landing not far away.
* Stinky ball - Miis can pick this up. Then a stench is released that repels wild Pokémon and causes the Mii to become worried.

[[Club Look-See]] is a group of people that will come to the Ranch and invite the player to see their ranch. Each member is assigned a number (#1, #2, and so on) and they will appear in order of their number. Each member's ranch has a certain theme, this means that each of their ranches is filled with a certain Pokémon. Each member's Mii also typically bears some resemblance to the Pokémon they have. These are special occurrences that will happen periodically.

* New toys and [[Club Look See]] members. Eleven new toys were added and the club members changed from 37 to 40.
* Revisit Club Look See ranches.
* A menu is added that allows changing of the song.

Yellow has a color variance depending on where you are, being lavender in Lavender Town, red on Cinnabar Island... and so on. But not Red and Blue. It also had a close affiliation with the short lived ''Pokémon Official Magazine'' in the UK. Its mascot Pokémon is Celebi, and it has recently created a popular program called Pokéarth.

==Server issues==
Serebii.net has suffered from a number of server problems since it burst into the ranks of the major Pokémon sites in 2002. Up until March 2003, its uptime could be called sporadic at best, with large downtimes of up to 6 months, due primarily to Serebii.net outgrowing a sequence of servers that it was being hosted on for no charge.

Due to Serebii's dire situation, [[Ledian_X]] introduced Craig Maloof to Serebii, who made an offer to pay for Serebii's server costs. (Craig had previously made this offer towards [[Archaic]] for [[Bulbagarden]], though this offer was rejected.) Since that time, Serebii.net has been hosted on Craig's own private servers, with the hosting bills apparently being paid for via the single Google AdWords banner on every page of the site and forums.

In Early 2006, after the site had made enough excess to pay Craig back for the time he personally funded the servers, it was decided to move the servers onto servers under the sole control of Serebii, with assistance from ricocheting, a guy who had helped Craig run his servers in the past.

Since then, the site's reach expanded causing many more server issues noted by many users in commencing at the release of Diamond & Pearl in Japan and many users trading in the sites forums. These issues are still plaguing the site at time of writing and are in the process of being resolved. The trading problem, however, has been resolved by different methods, such as sorting Pokémon and not allowing personal trade topics.

Serebii.net is also well known for presenting an {{wp|Advent Calendar}} every December.

The article is pushing the limits between fact and opinion - it isn't a question of the truth. I don't think the last two paragraphs are really necessary - perhaps a reference to some controversy but there isn't any need to have a a dedicated paragraph refuting all the claims of plagiarism on this type of pedia. The actual Serebii.net website should be responsible for maintaining its own integrity not other party's sites such as Bulbapedia which being within the public domain could spark more controversy.

There is no "opinion" here, everything on this article is nothing but fact and speculation. Although speculation is not necessarily truth, you'ld only have to click "Random Page" on Wikipedia to find some. From speculation you will eventually arrive at the truth anyway. If Pokemon.com says Phione is legendary, Phione is legendary! Phione is most likely considered legendary because it is '''of legend''' in the same way Mew and Arceus have legends surrounding them. I don't actually recall Nintendo or the Pokemon franchise explicitly state what the benchmark is for a legendary. The classifications for a legendary, (such as only one per game, high stats and inability to breed), were most likely assumed after the second Generation or so and were constatly reinforced with more legendaries fitting the criteria.
Maybe the classification has just been broken.

Phione is a conundrum. I really don't think of it as legendary, as it is "legendary" the same way Rotom is. Rotom is rare and has the legendary music play, but reproduces more of its own kind with Ditto; Phione's breeding is exactly like Rotom's. It traces its lineage from legends but doesn't have the stats to match up. Mewtwo is considered legendary due to its "one-of-a-kind" status and immense power. I say Phione is more of an "Almost, but not quite Legendary" pokemon, as it basically lacks that one special (probably yellow) element or essence that Manaphy has that makes it legendary. So, I think it's not like Phione is a demotion to borderline-legendary status, I think it's more like Manaphies being "Chosen Phiones" who are more powerful and pure (and legendary) as a result. This occasional legendary status isn't passed down from this special "Phione", and thus its children are normal Phiones. I don't think this debate would be so hectic if breeding wasn't the only way to obtain Phione. I say Phione belongs in the same category as Rotom as far as legendary status is concerned (Which is no) That's actually not a bad theory, that Manaphy are stronger Phione rather than Phione being weaker Manaphy. Okay, weeks ago I taught my Manaphy the move {{m|Waterfall}}, and I recently got a Ditto. Today, when my first Phione hatched from its Egg, guess what? It knew Waterfall!! But why in the world no Pokémon site mentions it? Not even [http://www.legendarypokemon.net Legendary Pokémon], the first people to publicly hack the game, talk of this. Maybe now that Manaphy was given away in an easier way, more people can help me confirming this (maybe it's an in-game bug or something? Or some game mechanics that have been overlooked?).

Just a thought: I still don't feel naming Phione a legendary Pokémon for a reason like that (the mailbox from Pokémon.com) is enough. What about Japanese denominations (densetsu, maboroshi, shinwa)? Which one is Phione? Bulbapedia is an output from us, but it's an input to many people. Oh, so Dratini, Dragonair, and Dragonite are legendaries, because they're squeezed in between the bird trio and Mewtwo, are they? They are according to your logic. And secondly, just because a legendary Pokemon breeds to make a different species altogether, doesn't mean that the different species is also a legendary. Now, if Phione was unable to breed and had better stats, I would think it's a legendary. But anything with base stats equal to Glalie's and the ability to breed with Ditto like crazy? And two of the points that say it's legendary I have already shot down. The Dragonite, Tyranitar, and Metagross families are squeezed between legendaries, and does that make them legendaries? No, it does not! Does Phione's position in the Pokédex classify it as a legendary? Absolutely not! And maybe it is bred from another legendary- does that actually MEAN anything about Phione's legendary status? No! Mew was said to be the ancestor of all Pokémon, does that mean that every single Pokémon in existance is legendary? I didn't think so! And the stats! The one major consistancy about legendaries (aside from the whole can't breed thing) is their good stats. And Glalie's base stats are not good. can phione really be considered a legendary? It is by no means limited to one a game cartridge as legendary Pokemon are, given that it can breed with Ditto as well as any Magnemite, Rotom, or Baltoy. It's base stats are the same as Glalie's. Which is NOT legendary. Correct me if I'm wrong, but in order to be a legendary, doesn't a Pokemon have to be only one per game without trading, and have at least SOMEWHAT good stats?

Before continuing with the edit war on the Trivia section, I must say I agree with Missingno. Master on removing that line from the Trivia section which says "Without using cheats or trading, Phione is the only legendary Pokémon that a player can have more that one of". If Pokemon.com says Phione is legendary, Phione is legendary! Phione is most likely considered legendary because it is '''of legend''' in the same way Mew and Arceus have legends surrounding them. I don't actually recall Nintendo or the Pokemon franchise explicitly state what the benchmark is for a legendary. The classifications for a legendary, (such as only one per game, high stats and inability to breed), were most likely assumed after the second Generation or so and were constatly reinforced with more legendaries fitting the criteria.
Maybe the classification has just been broken.

Okay, weeks ago I taught my Manaphy the move {{m|Waterfall}}, and I recently got a Ditto. Today, when my first Phione hatched from its Egg, guess what? It knew Waterfall!! But why in the world no Pokémon site mentions it? Not even [http://www.legendarypokemon.net Legendary Pokémon], the first people to publicly hack the game, talk of this. Maybe now that Manaphy was given away in an easier way, more people can help me confirming this (maybe it's an in-game bug or something? Or some game mechanics that have been overlooked?).

Just a thought: I still don't feel naming Phione a legendary Pokémon for a reason like that (the mailbox from Pokémon.com) is enough. What about Japanese denominations (densetsu, maboroshi, shinwa)? Which one is Phione? Bulbapedia is an output from us, but it's an input to many people. An excellent point. How do we know Pokemon.com is correct? They changed their answer once before, which could indicate that they themselves don't have any idea, and are just guessing. Oh, so Dratini, Dragonair, and Dragonite are legendaries, because they're squeezed in between the bird trio and Mewtwo, are they? They are according to your logic. And secondly, just because a legendary Pokemon breeds to make a different species altogether, doesn't mean that the different species is also a legendary. Now, if Phione was unable to breed and had better stats, I would think it's a legendary. But anything with base stats equal to Glalie's and the ability to breed with Ditto like crazy? I mean, isn't the whole thing behind legendaries the fact that they're supposed to be HARD TO GET? And Phione can frickin' breed! Nintendo's never let us get more than one of each legendary per game w/o trading. Alright, here is, as I percieve it, the main points in the Phione Legendary Argument;
Phione must be legendary because;
*It is bred from another legendary
*Its position in the Pokédex
*Genderless
Phione CAN'T be a legendary because;
*Its stats are mediocre at best
*It can breed, and therefore more than one per game cart can be easily obtained

And two of the points that say it's legendary I have already shot down. The Dragonite, Tyranitar, and Metagross families are squeezed between legendaries, and does that make them legendaries? No, it does not! Does Phione's position in the Pokédex classify it as a legendary? Absolutely not! And maybe it is bred from another legendary- does that actually MEAN anything about Phione's legendary status? No! Mew was said to be the ancestor of all Pokémon, does that mean that every single Pokémon in existance is legendary? I didn't think so! And the stats! The one major consistancy about legendaries (aside from the whole can't breed thing) is their good stats. And Glalie's base stats are not good. True, this does not conclusively prove Phione to not be legendary, but it certainly lends a hefty amount of support towards that side of the issue. Hearthome City is a child-friendly city, and there are many families and young mothers living there. Most of the buildings use elevators instead of stairs so that small children and Pokémon can move through the houses. There are prams strewn through the city. The citizens scrupulously keep their city clean.

==Attractions==
There is plenty to do in Hearthome City. There is a building called the [[Foreign Building]] there where different cultures meet. There's also a nice fountain and Sinnoh's branch of the [[Pokémon Fan Club]].

The biggest attraction, garnering contestants from all throughout the region, is the [[Super Contest Hall]]. The city's [[Gym Leader]], [[Fantina]], is a self-proclaimed master at [[Pokémon Super Contests]].

A notable attraction is [[Amity Square]], where [[Pokémon Trainer|trainers]] relax with their Pokémon. Eleven different types of cute Pokémon will follow the player about in Amity Square, and many Pokémon wander about the city outside of their [[Poké Balls]].

Inside the [[Pokémon Fan Club]] (numbered 3), the player will receive the [[Poffin Case]], needed to bake [[Poffin]]. The [[Poffin House]] is also here, where coordinators can bake [[Poffin]]s to boost their Pokémon's [[condition]] for [[Pokémon Super Contests]], either alone or through DS Wireless Communications with people nearby. Up to four people may bake at a time.

As the player enters Hearthome from the western side, there is a house with a sign. This is where the [[Berry Master]] lives; each day he will give the player a new [[Berry]].

Also of note are [[Bebe]], the system administrator for Sinnoh's [[Pokémon storage system]] who will also give the player an {{p|Eevee}}, and [[Mr. Goods]], a bemused man dedicated to rarities who gives out [[goods]] to decorate the [[Secret Base]] in the [[Sinnoh Underground]] with upon completion of certain tasks, such as using the [[Global Trade Station|GTS]] or defeating all eight [[Gyms]].
