In Gen. III, only Charizard, Venusaur and Blastoise could learn Blast Burn, Frenzy Plant and Hydro Cannon, respectively. The Johto starters could learn it too, but only by being traded from XD (just like Lugia and Psycho Boost). Should the 3 HB variations be included in this list, since other "former" signature moves are also included?--Darthrai 02:12, 28 September 2008 (UTC)
:Feel free to add it at the bottom of the page, but note that all the fully-evolved starters can learn them in Generation IV. LordArceus 00:11, 4 November 2008 (UTC)
Skarmory?
Should Skarmory with Steel Wing be included here? After all, it is the only Pokemon that can learn it naturally.
Question is, how many others do that? <span style="color:#FF0000;">T</span><span style="color:#FF0000;">T</span><span style="color:#FF0000;">E</span><span style="color:#0000FF;">chidna</span> 03:14, 15 July 2007 (UTC)

Should stone-induced evolved forms be listed? Pikachu and Raichu appear in the article. However, the species that actually learns Volt Tackle is Pichu (making the Battle Revolution Pikachu a trivia section material). If Raichu can appear in the list, then Togekiss and Mismagius should, too. --Johans 20:36, 22 September 2007 (UTC)
:No, I think that only the Pokémon that learns the move should be listed. So Pichu should be listed, but it's evolutions shouldn't. Only if the evolution learns the move then they an be listed. So both Cubone and Marowak learn Bonemerang, therefore both should be listed.
Would Splash be eligible for inclusion here? A bunch of Pokémon can learn the move nowadays, but back in Generation I it was very much Magikarp's trademark. A similar case is already included on the list (Petal Dance, which was exclusive to the Oddish line in Generation I). Bikini Miltank 08:48, 20 November 2007 (UTC)

:You're right, according to the current status of the article. But I think that kind of moves shouldn't appear in the list. IMO, in any case, Generation III stuff is the only past generation that should be mentioned, as it's compatible with Generation IV, but I still don't like the idea.
:I take it this all started with the ExtremeSpeed Dratini from the trivia section, right? Well, that Dratini is obsolete, too. I propose we get rid of ExtremeSpeed Dratini and there won't be need for the ExtremeSpeed Arcanine and the other obsolete groups. --Johans 16:18, 20 November 2007 (UTC)
In Generation III, Staryu was the only Pokemon who could learn Camouflage. Mothim can now learn it in Gen IV. Nevertheless, I would assume that Staryu would count as a Pokémon with a signature move before Gen IV. -TIMMY
Cleanup
This article NEEDS some cleanup... some signature moves don't make sense and some are in a lot of pokemon, so they should be removed. I think if a pokemon prior to Gen IV now learns a GEN IV move, it shouldn't be mentioned, 'cause it's obvious that another pokemon will learn the same move (for example Relicanth that learns Cranidos' signature. in that case Relicanth should be removed). I'll add Splash becoz only Magikarp had Splash in Gen I with an asterix sign, while Meteor Mash also becoz there are some moves listed here that have more than one move per pokémon, usally two. ==This page is in need of SERIOUS clean-up.==

Some moves are counted as signature when they're limited to one Pokémon. Some are counted when they're limited to two Pokémon. Some three Pokémon. Where's the limit? I think two families should be the most.(Branched families are fine.) I'd prefer only one family, but I'll accept anything, just agree on something.

Some moves are counted as "signature" if they're limited to one(or a few) Pokémon NATURALLY...other moves are counted if they're limited OVERALL. I think that TMs/HMs/tutors/"bonus" moves should not matter, Waterfall is still Goldeen and Seaking's signature move. I'd accept the other way too, but it needs to be CONSISTENT.

Not to mention a few of the asterisks are wrong...and some without asterisks could use some. Or it could be split to generations, but I think asterisks work just fine.

The Pikachu that knows Volt Tackle doesn't need to be in the one-off section. Yes, it's only Pichu's signature move...but Pikachus can normally learn it by evolving from Pichu! Pikachu shouldn't be in the table, that is correct, but it doesn't need to be in the one-off either. That should be for examples that COULD NOT happen otherwise, like the Dratini with ExtremeSpeed.Flint A 20:09, 20 June 2009 (UTC)
:My opinion is that if a move can be learned by any or all of the Pokémon of one family naturally or by TM, it is a signature move. If a move is shared with an other family or it is a TM that can be used or a move tutor move that can be taught on more than the family in question, it is not a signature move. Event Pokémon are obviously excluded. <font color="#3fff00">UltimateSephiroth</font> (<font color="#3f7f00">about me</font> · <font color="#3f7f00">chat</font> · edits) 22:48, 20 June 2009 (UTC)
::That sounds fine to me, a more "exclusive" definition of signature move. Although if something was a signature move at one point, I'd expect it there with an asterisk. Before I edit the actual page, I want to see if everyone agrees to this.

I was thinking of removing the following moves since they're "Signature" titles are questionable:

-Waterfall

-Leaf Blade
--------------------------

Yes yes, I know that's quite a lot of moves to pick out. But let's be honest, These moves are a little too common to be "Signature" thanks to other Pokémon showing up or Pokémon learning said moves via Breeding, Level up, Move tutor, TM/HM etc.

If you don't agree with this, I'll ignore this. Many of those moves are already noted as being signature moves prior to a Generation, as the person above said. However, Beat Up, Crush Claw, Pain Split, Feather Dance, Assist and Extrasensory, are different. They're signature moves in that only a select few Pokémon learn by level up, but can be taught in other ways. In the "Other signature move examples" section, such things are noted, where a move is learned by more than one Pokémon but only by one by level up. I say we move the mentioned moves to a whole new section for "Level Up Signature Moves", where we list the signature moves if we go by moves learned through level and not by tutor or TM or breeding. == Overhaul ==

Alright, I went for it and changed the main body to only refer to Generation IV signature moves. The list of former signature moves near the bottom might be better as some sort of table, but I'm not good at making tables and it wouldn't be like just copying the first table, as we'd need "unsignature" dates. Also, that list should not be considered comprehensive; it's just the ones that were there already plus the ones from the old list. There might be some missing.

The only controversial change I think is that I specifically limited signature moves to one evolutionary family only, but I seem to see quite a bit of support for that on the talk page and I feel it's the only sensible decision myself.
"prior to gen ..." signature moves
If, according to te article, Signature moves are by definition only learned by either a single Pokémon or a small group of Pokémon, then a lot of the moves listed that say they were signature moves prior to a certain generation were still signature moves, (in cases such as extemespeed, for at least until the generation after) as the definition in no way implies that the pokémon that can learn it have to be related by evolution it just states either that the move can be learned only as a level up move and even then, only by a small number of Pokémon or that the move can only be learned by level up by a small number of pokémon (in which case almost all, if not all are still signature moves). because even though the way the definition is phrased it can be rephrased either way it most certainly can't be rephrased both ways because they are different from meanings from eachother but are synonyms to different definitions of the phrase that defines signature moves. *LU exclusive means: The move is exclusive to a certain poke line by leveling up, but several other pokes can learn it by breading or tutoring.

My definition of 'Signature Move'
I say the definition should be "A move that a Pokémon is best known for." As a result, this means that a move that is common can be the signature move of another Pokémon (for example, Rollout can be learned by several different kinds of Pokémon, but Geodude's evolutionary family may have it as their signature move, because Graveler is said to use it often down mountains in Firered's description of it). Another example is Psycho Cut - Gallade would most likely have the attack as its signature move had this description of signature move been used. --Psyblade 18:43, 27 January 2011 (UTC)

Gardevoir (Japanese: サーナイト Sirknight) is a Psychic Pokémon.

It evolves from Kirlia starting at level 30. It is one of Ralts's final forms.

Biology
Physiology
The tutu-like skirt that Gardevoir had as a Kirlia had became an elegant ballroom gown, with a similar green underside. Its ‘hair’ style has also changed, with ‘curls’ down the sides of its head. Gardevoir has long, slender, white legs underneath the gown. Gardevoir's arms are now green; its arms are connected to the hand with no defined wrist. Gardevoir owns long, slender fingers that are connected to the arms directly, appearing more glove-like. The red fin-like horns it had on its head before evolving have now moved to its chest and its back. Gardevoir also has spikes to the side of its face that has a close resemblance to a masquerade mask. Gardevoir has a band of green extending on its chest to the centermost fin and then connecting to the sleeve-like arms, almost appearing to resemble a Torso or top-like part to a dress.

Gender differences
None. While Gardevoir is often considered to be the female counterpart to Gallade, male Gardevoir also exist.

Special abilities
Gardevoir can sense the feelings of people and other Pokémon. It can also able to Future Sight clearly. Gardevoir has the psychokinetic power to distort the dimensions and create a small black hole, in order to protect its Trainer. Apparently, Gardevoir does not feel the pull of gravity because it supports itself with psychic power. It also has the power to teleport. In addition to Psychic type moves, Gardevoir can also learn moves of a variety of types, such as Energy Ball, Thunderbolt, Focus Blast, Shadow Ball, and Charge Beam. As a fully evolved Pokémon it can also learn Hyper Beam and Giga Impact.

Behavior
Gardevoir are known widely for their loyalty to their trainers, even to the point of sacrificing their own life for them. In the wild they go in family groups, caring heavily for their young.
Major appearances
Gardevoir's debut appearance was in Do I Hear a Ralts?. It was the parent of the sick Max that Max and Ash's Snorunt were taking to the Pokémon Center.

Its most recent appearance was in Mutiny in the Bounty. It belonged to a girl named Melodi and then was stolen by Pokémon Hunter J. It proved to have a deep psychic connection with its trainer and was able to hear her through thought.

Minor appearances
A Gardevoir appeared briefly in a Contest in Spontaneous Combusken.
Another Gardevoir appeared in a tag battle with a Hariyama in the Advanced Generation opening This Dream.

Trivia
* Out of the three original stages of Ralts, Gardevoir is the only one that had its name changed in the English version.
* Despite its human-like appearance, it isn't in the Humanshape egg group.
* In My Pokémon Ranch, Gardevoir displays the ability of levitation/flight. With the Trace ability, this is possible by copying Levitate. It may also be the result of Gardevoir's ability to ignore normal gravitational pull and float using its psychic abilities.
* Gardevoir's number in the Sinnoh Pokédex (Platinum only) and the Almia Browser is the same: 159. This makes it and its evolution family one of only five families of Pokémon (comprising thirteen Pokémon altogether) to have the same numbers in more than one Pokédex-like listing.
* Although Gardevoir could always learn Will-O-Wisp by breeding, it was not able to learn it by TM until Generation V, despite Will-O-Wisp becoming a TM in Gen IV.

Origin
Gardevoir resembles a ballroom dancer. Its exaggerated head with minimal facial expression and an overall frail, featureless physique could also be attributed to anesama ningyou, a style of traditional Japanese paper doll. Its protective nature over its trainer may suggest that it is based on a guardian angel, though its ghost-like characteristics could also suggest that it is based on ghosts that refuse to leave this world.

Name origin
Gardevoir's name may be a combination of garde (French for "guard") and devoir (French for "duty") or a combination of garder ("to keep") and voir ("to see"). This is reflected in its Pokédex data, which explains how Gardevoir will protect its Trainer even at the cost of its own life. The Pokédex also mentions that Gardevoir has the ability to see into the future — hence voir. Its Japanese name may be taken to mean さあ、ナイト saa, naito ("come, knight") or 'Sir Knight'.
Shroomish (Japanese: キノココ Kinococo) is a Grass Pokémon.

It evolves into Breloom starting at level 23.

Biology
Physiology
Shroomish are small green and peach colored Pokémon with a clear inspiration from mushrooms. They are peach on the upper half, where they are spotted with green and have a small opening at the top. This section ends with frilled segments, which overlap its green underside, which is round and has small, round feet. Shroomish seem to have a near permanent frown on their face.
Gender differences
None.

Special abilities
Shroomish has a buildup of poisonous powders inside, which it can release when threatened. Some Shroomish also heal when Poison.

Behavior
Shroomish is said to be mild tempered, and are often found keeping still under fallen leaves. If Shroomish senses danger, it shakes its body and scatters toxic spores from the top of its head.

Habitat
Prefers the damp soil of large forests.

Diet
Pokémon food

Shroomish eat naturally decayed plants, leaves, and other compost found on the forest floor. However, they are sometimes found in possession of a Kebia Berry.

In the anime
Several Shroomish that Team Rocket angered evolved into Breloom in A Shroomish Skirmish.

Trivia
*Shroomish and Breloom share the same species name with Paras and Parasect. They are all known as the Mushroom Pokémon.
*Shroomish is the only Grass-type to learn Wake-Up Slap via breeding, despite not possessing hands.
*Shroomish is able to learn False Swipe via the Shadow Shroomish being purified in Pokemon XD, yet it does not posses claws or any other objects to slice with. It learns the move immediately after purification.

Origin
Shroomish is based on a mushroom.

Name origin
Shroomish's name is derived from mushroom and the suffix -ish, meaning -like.
Breloom (Japanese: キノガッサ Kinogassa) is a dual-type Pokémon.

It evolves from Shroomish starting at level 23.

Biology
Physiology
In sharp contrast to the diminutive Shroomish, Breloom sports an agile shape, similar to a kangaroo or a theropod. It has a mushroom-like green "cap" on its head with visible gills and a round, somewhat berry-like or oak gall-like portion on one side. Breloom’s head, neck, and tail are tan in coloration. Breloom’s mouth is somewhat beak-like in shape, and there is a petal-like arrangement of extensions from its shoulders. Breloom’s chest and lower body is green, and its feet have two red claws. Breloom has seed clusters made of hardened toxic spores on the end of its tail, which it uses to slam into its foe. Its arms appear to be short and of little use, but they can stretch surprisingly far to deliver punches. Its red foreclaws are ideal for slicing.
Gender differences
None.

Special abilities
Like Shroomish, Breloom can store up Effect Spore that causes several status ailments, and especially notable among these are the toxic spores on its tail, which are horrible to eat. They are also physically very strong, much like most Fightings, and extremely fast. Some of its unique moves depends on these two factors; Sky Uppercut, and the other Mach Punch.

Behavior
Breloom come in groups along with other Shroomish and partake in tasks for their survival like foraging for food and defending their kind from enemies and predators. Once threatened, Breloom will not hesitate to fight and will not cease until their enemies have been warded off or beaten. Breloom are formidable combatants in battle and will take on almost any Pokémon who poses as a threat to their kind, especially their young. Breloom’s fighting technique consists of closing in on its foe with light and sprightly footwork before punching with its stretchy arms. Breloom also scatters spores from holes in the mushroom cap on its head.

Habitat
Breloom prefers warm and humid climates.

Diet
Pokémon food
Breloom feeds on trees and plants in fields and forests. Breloom can also occasionally be found with the Kebia Berry.
In the anime
Major appearances
The first major role Breloom had was in A Shroomish Skirmish. Ash and friends were being attacked by Breloom that had evolved from Shroomish that were mad at them for stealing their food. May's newly evolved May defeated the Breloom in a vicious hand to hand fight and saved the day.

Kenny has a Breloom that appeared in Journey to the Unown! and Team Shocker!.

Minor appearances
Breloom's first appearance was a cameo in the first Advanced Generation movie, Jirachi: Wish Maker. The Mushroom Pokémon was one of the residents of Forina, Jirachi's home.

Breloom had another cameo in Numero Uno Articuno as a Pokémon belonging to Factory Head.

A Breloom appeared in Pasta la Vista, under the ownership of the Fighting Dojo.

A Breloom was battled by Ash and Pikachu during the tournament in Lucrio and the Mystery of Mew.

Trivia
* Breloom has the highest Attack out of all Grass Pokémon.
* Despite being called the Mushroom Pokémon, and some Pokédex entries mentioning its spores, Breloom does not learn Spore via level-up. However, it can have the ability Effect Spore.
** Its pre-evolution Shroomish does, however.
* In Generation III, Breloom did not learn any Grass moves by level up after evolving.
* Breloom's petal-like appendages adorning its neck, as depicted in its sprite, are noticeably longer in Generation III. Breloom also seems to have smaller 'hands' in Generation III as well.
* Before Generation V, Breloom can learn False Swipe through breeding, but not by TM.
**Breloom can also learn False Swipe via the Shadow Shroomish in Pokemon XD, as it learns the move immediately after purification.

Origin
Breloom is based on a mushroom. However its body structure resembles that of a kangaroo. Also, the shapes of its head and tail resembles that of two armored dinosaurs, Pachycephalosaurus and Ankylosaurus respecively.

Name origin
Breloom's name may be a combination of umbrella and mushroom or bloom.
In Latin, "bellum" means "war," perhaps a nod to its Fighting type.

Kinogassa is likely a combination of 茸 kinoko, mushrooms, and 傘 kasa, umbrella.
