Its motto is "A Port Surrounded by Rough Seas!"

Tales of Lugia and the whirlpools it creates circulate among the sailors that stop in this port town.
The only way to go between Cianwood City and Johto's mainland is to Fly or Surf through the sea to the east, Route 41.
Kirk (Japanese: Unknown), known as Mania in Generation II, is a PokéManiac who lives on the island. Before the player meets him, he is bullied by Silver into giving up his rare Pokémon, Sneasel. To prevent Silver from coming back to steal any more Pokémon, Kirk wants to give his Shuckle for safekeeping. This Shuckle has Kirk's OT number and will act like an outsider in battle.

{{Pokémon
In Pokémon HeartGold and SoulSilver Versions, he will give the player this Shuckle which still keeps the nickname Shuckie from the Generation II games:
Photo Studio
There's a Photo Studio where pictures of Pokémon can be taken. This is meant to work with the Game Boy Printer peripheral. In Gold, Silver, and Crystal, the player can print out their Pokédex or the stats of one specific Pokémon. Mail can also be printed. In Generation IV, a relative of Cameron the photographer lives here. He has a camera set up outside so the player can take a picture with their Pokémon for their photo album.

Cianwood City Pharmacy
Cianwood City Pharmacy is a small pharmacy that is over 500 years old. The Cianwood City Pharmacy sells remedies exclusive to the town. Jasmine will ask the player to fetch her Ampharos some medicine from there.

After giving Jasmine the medicine, players can return to the Pharmacy to find that Potions and Full Heals are in stock.
Area north of the city
In the very north of the city, there is a small area with a ledge where Suicune will be at a certain point in Crystal, HeartGold and SoulSilver. Eusine will appear after it runs away, and will battle the player in an effort to prove himself to Suicune.

Pokémon Seer
In the very north of the city, there is a small house with an elderly woman who can tell where and when a Pokémon in the trainer's party has been caught. The Seer can only be found in Crystal. Unlike later games, the player is unable to find out where they caught their Pokémon by looking in their Pokémon's status; hence, the Pokémon Seer is the only way the player can tell where they caught their Pokémon. If a Pokémon traded from another game or an in-game traded Pokémon is shown to her, she will not be able to identify any details about it.

Cianwood Gym
Cianwood Gym

The Cianwood Gym is the official gym of Cianwood City. It is based on Fighting Pokémon. The Gym Leader is Chuck. Trainers who defeat him receive the Storm. Obtaining this Badge is usually the only reason that people travel to Cianwood City.

The caretaker for the Cianwood Gym is inside the local Pokémon Center rather than the gym itself. This is played for humor, with the caretaker claiming that he is afraid of the gym's tough trainers.

Demographics
Cianwood City has a total population of 19. This makes it one of the smallest cities in Johto. It has little immigration, because of its remote position in Johto. Cianwood City is strongly related to Olivine City, as the only route to Cianwood is via Olivine.
* Diamond have a reference to Cianwood City. After meeting up with Cynthia, she will give the player a SecretPotion. The SecretPotion's description mentions that it was dispensed by the pharmacy in Cianwood City.
Charcoal Kiln
Near the gym is a small house that houses the Pokémon world's only Type-enhancing item kiln. The kiln is owned by a family that handles not only the production of the Charcoal, but also the collection of the necessary materials. To acquire the wood necessary for the Charcoal, the family uses a Farfetch'd to cut down trees in Ilex Forest. The wood is then treated in the kiln and turned into Charcoal, which is then sold at the local Poké Mart, making Charcoal the only type-enhancing held item that can be freely purchased, albeit at a high price.

Kurt's House
Kurt lives in a house in the northwest corner of Azalea Town. He resides there with his granddaughter Maisy, and her favorite Pokémon, Slowpoke. There is a Apricorn tree located next to his house that grows Wht Apricorns daily.

Kurt specializes in making custom Poké Balls specifically designed to work more effectively against specific types of Pokémon. The ball that Kurt makes depends on the Apricorn that is given to Kurt by Trainers.

When entering Kurt's house for the first time, he will quickly run out after saying something about going to the Slowpoke Well. He will defeat the grunt at the entrance, then will fall into the well and injure his back. After Kurt is injured while trying to stop Team Rocket, the player has to defeat the Grunts and rescue the kidnapped Slowpoke.

Slowpoke Well
Slowpoke Well
Slowpoke may not be considered to be an important Pokémon outside of Azalea, but in this small southern Johto town, Slowpoke are placed in high regard and are revered by the community. This is shown by the existence of the Slowpoke Well in the northeast corner of town near the entrance to Route 33. The small well opening leads to an expansive two-level cave heavily populated with Slowpoke located underneath Azalea.

Slowpoke Well is where the player first encounters the revived Team Rocket, who are cutting off the tails of Slowpoke to sell at their HQ in Mahogany Town. Before talking to Kurt in his house, there will be a Team Rocket Grunt guarding the entrance of the well, and will not let anyone in.

There are two floors; the first one can be explored when Team Rocket attacks, whereas the other cannot be reached until later. Later in the game, after the player has acquired both Surf and Strength, they can explore the lower floor of the well. There is a man on an island who will give players a Held item if they talk to him.
* When the Player first encounters the boy that lost the Farfetch'd in Generation II, his overworld sprite uses the green palette; when he is back at the house, his palette colors him blue instead.
* Azalea is the first location with a gym in the games that is a town rather than a city, if not including Cinnabar Island, due to one of its Japanese names ending in "Town".

The Lake of Rage (Japanese: いかりのみずうみ Lake of Rage), also known as Gyarados Lake, is a location in Johto. It is located just north of Mahogany Town, connecting it with 43, making it the northern-most accessible point of the Johto region. A large lake spans the area of the Lake of Rage, with a few residents living nearby. It is said to be the largest lake in the region. West of the lake lies a labyrinth of trees, which hides a house.

It is said the Lake of Rage was created the last time many Gyarados got together and stirred up a storm. The crater that remained filled with rainwater and became the Lake of Rage. In the middle of the lake dwells a shiny2 Gyarados that had recently became irritable due to the radio waves transmitted by Team Rocket from their hideout in Mahogany Town. The Lake of Rage was considered a dangerous place to go, as the red Gyarados started tipping over boats and scaring swimmers.

In the games
The Lake of Rage is located north of Route 43. Along the way to the Lake of Rage, the player will meet several members of Team Rocket. By surfing into the middle of the lake, the player will encounter a red Gyarados. After catching, defeating or fleeing from it, the player will receive a List of key items in Generation II. Lance, of the Elite Four, will be waiting for the player on the shore afterwards, and will speak of the secret Team Rocket hideout in Mahogany Town.

Northwest of the lake, there is a house hidden within a labyrinth of trees. Inside, a man will give players 10 for locating the reclusive house. The path to this house begins in Route 43, on the western side, and crossing the lake is not required. Wesley is found near this house, and will give the player a Type-enhancing item (first time) or Ribbon (all other times, Generation IV only) on Wednesdays.

Southeast of the lake is another house, where a Fishing Guru resides. His greatest dream is to see the world's largest Magikarp, and he regularly measures those brought to him in order to realize it. If the player brings him a large enough Magikarp, he will give the player an Ether as a prize.

In HeartGold and SoulSilver it will occasionally rain at the lake. When it rains, the lake will flood; this flooding is not present when the weather is calm.

In every game in which it appears, the player can also Fly to the Lake of Rage; it is the only destination in any game that can be flown to where the player will not land in front of a building.
In the anime
The Lake of Rage was featured in the episodes Talkin' 'Bout an Evolution and Rage Of Innocence. Team Rocket attempts to capture the Red Gyarados, and also force other Pokémon to evolve and reach the "Red State". Their plans are thwarted by Lance, Ash and his friends, and Lance captures the Red Gyarados.

In the manga
The Lake of Rage appears in the Pokémon Adventures manga.

Gold follows Silver to the Lake of Rage. Looking for him, Gold is surprised by a group of Gyarados thrashing around in the water. The locals flee, but Gold spots Silver running towards the lake. Nearly crushed by a glancing attack, Silver tells Gold that there are strange radio waves in the area, forcing the wild Pokémon to evolve. Silver flies off to find the source of the radio waves, leaving Gold alone to deal with multiple angry wild Gyarados by himself.

Interference on their PokéGear reveals the source to be a red Gyarados in the center of the swarm. Silver captures it, thus stopping the rest from rampaging. But it's only a matter of seconds before the two boys begin arguing again.

Suddenly, a fog covers the area. Gold instantly recognizes it as that of the Masked Man. Secretly setting up a ring of razor-sharp icicles around them, the two boys fight along side each other, before the Mask's taunting gets the better of Silver. Chasing after him alone, Silver calls upon all of the wild Gyarados in the Lake (as the red Gyarados is the leader of them) and uses their combined strength to attack the Mask.

Meanwhile, Gold is busy dealing with some of the Mask's Pokémon by himself. After cleverly defeating them, he hurries after Silver, only to find the entire lake frozen solid. Silver and his Gyarados are knocked out. Gold runs to him, only to see a giant chunk of ice smash into Silver, throwing him into the water. Claiming that Silver was being punished, he then attacks Gold as well. The last few panels show Gold and his Aipom the instant before a giant chunk of ice is about to hit them, and the impact. Gold's hat and PokéGear are seen tossed into the air.

Trivia
* There is a hidden, beta area in the games, that includes a Pokémon Center, Poké Mart, and even a Pokémon Gym surrounding a lake that is a similar size and shape to the Lake of Rage. This area, inaccessible during normal gameplay, is one of the remaining beta maps of towns from the development of Gold and Silver, and may have been a predecessor to Mahogany Town.
*A remix of the background music heard here can be heard on most of the Sevii Islands' routes.
*Even though it is said that Team Rocket's radio signal is evolving all the Magikarp in Lake of Rage, Magikarp can still be found there at any time.

Hey this is me PallyofFail. I'm new around here but know a bit about the games. I own Heartgold and Pearl but have also played Yellow, Colosseum, and XD. I have seen that most of the item pages for the towns in HG/SS do not have any hidden items on them, my current plan is to go around and find the hidden items in towns and add them to their respective pages. Since I don't have gold, silver or crystal it would be nice if someone who does could confirm whether or not they're there in the older games.

New Bark Town (Japanese: ワカバタウン Wakaba Town) is the hometown of the main character in the Generation II games and their remakes. It is home to the lab of Professor Elm, who possesses the starting Pokémon for that generation: Chikorita, Totodile, and Cyndaquil.

Other than being connected to 29 in the west, it is also the town that must be passed through to reach Tohjo Falls, Victory Road and the Indigo Plateau, via 26 and 27.

Places of interest
Player's house
In Generations II and IV, this house is where the player lives before beginning their journey. The player's mother lives here, and after the player has left town for the first time, she will save money if the player wishes and occasionally buys decorations for the bedroom, or items such as Potions.

The player's bedroom is a bit fancier than Red's bedroom in . Unlike Red's, it can also be customized to include several Poké Dolls, as well as beds, game systems, and carpets. The Town Map hanging on the wall can also be replaced with one of several posters of different Pokémon.

The player starts the game in their bedroom, in front of their PC and radio. The PC in the top-left corner of the room has a few important purposes, but unlike in the Generation I bedroom's computer, it does not contain an item.

Professor Elm's lab
Professor Elm's laboratory lies right next to the western entrance into New Bark Town. Professor Elm works at his laboratory with his aide, usually doing experiments concerning Pokémon eggs and breeding. In II, the lab is a small building near the player's house that has been slightly modified in HeartGold and SoulSilver. Here, Pokémon Trainers just beginning their quest are given the choice to receive either a Chikorita, Totodile, and Cyndaquil from Professor Elm.

Inside is one aide of Professor Elm's, a couple of shelves full of books, a table with three Poké Balls (a capsule in HeartGold and SoulSilver), a computer, and a few tips for the player. There is also a machine here that has the ability to fully rest/restore all of the player's Pokémon, just like a Pokémon Center. In HeartGold and SoulSilver, Elm's Aide gives the player five Potions when leaving the lab for the first time.

At the beginning of the game, a Silver looking through the window into the lab. If spoken to, he will kick people out of his way, and then continue to spy upon the lab.

In HeartGold and SoulSilver, Professor Elm's lab has an upstairs living area. His house from has now become the home of Lyra or Ethan.

Demographics
New Bark Town's population is about 10, not counting the player or the rival. This makes it the least populated town in Johto. This low number is likely due to its lack of amenities like a Gym or Pokémon Center, and its isolation from the rest of Johto.

Name origin
New Bark Town's name comes from the fact that Generation II introduced 100 new Pokémon, as well as a reference to the fact that all of the towns of Johto are named for plants. The motto also references the newness of Generation II compared to the previous generation. Wakaba (若葉) means new leaves or fresh verdure.

Trivia
*Despite appearing to be farther away from the Johto-Kanto border on the Town Map, the player character's house is 7 steps from the border with 27, 10 steps closer than the Silver Cave Pokémon Center is to 28, thus making it the closest Fly destination to the border.
*Of all towns where the player starts, it is the only one to not have a connecting route to the north, but instead to the east and west.
**This is also the only town where the player begins his or her journey to not be connected to a route whose number ends in 1.
*New Bark Town is the highest populated (not including the player or rival) starting town of any of the main series games. Due to the fact that in HeartGold and SoulSilver the lab has an upstairs level, the population is even higher in these games.
*The name of this town started the running theme in which the player's starting town is named after a plant.
*Because Prof. Elm has a healing machine, this is the only starting town where the player's mother does not heal their Pokémon (she will, however, if the player's starter Pokémon faints before they reach a Pokémon Center).
*In HeartGold and SoulSilver, at some point during the player's journey, the starter Pokémon in Elm's lab that wasn't chosen by the player or stolen by the rival disappears without explanation, although it hints that it was given to someone else.
