Gardenia uses {{type2|Grass}} Pokémon in her battles. For defeating her, Trainers receive the {{badge|Forest}}, {{TM|86|Grass Knot}}, and the ability to use {{m|Cut}} outside of battle. Gardenia likes to explore [[Eterna Forest]]. Unlike most Gym Leaders, challengers are required to beat all of her students to challenge her.

She appears in front of the [[Old Chateau]], to warn the player of the mysterious stories of hauntings surrounding it. She hints at herself being afraid of ghosts. Later, in {{v2|Platinum}}, she will appear occasionally for rematches at the [[Battleground]]. She also sometimes visit the [[Villa]] and will always arrive when the Houseplant is purchased. In this episode, she had a short {{pkmn|battle}} with {{Ash}}, revealing to him that the Eterna City Gym Leader specialized in Grass Pokémon but not that it is her yet. She sent out {{p|Cherubi}} first, though she soon recalled it. She then sent out her own {{TP|Gardenia|Turtwig}}, which defeated both [[Ash's Turtwig]] and {{AP|Staravia|Staraptor}}.

Gardenia has an obsession with Grass Pokémon to the extent that she did not appear to be taking Team Rocket seriously due to her fascination with [[James's Carnivine]] and {{TP|James|Cacnea}}. But she seems to get over this problem in ''[[DP036|A Secret Sphere of Influence!]]'', when she battled the Team Rocket without any hesitation by sending her {{TP|Gardenia|Turtwig}} out. She also reveals her rank as a Gym Leader in this episode.

Gardenia had a Gym Battle with Ash in ''[[DP037|The Grass Menagerie!]]''. She sent out her {{p|Cherubi}}, {{TP|Gardenia|Turtwig}}, and {{p|Roserade}}. [[Ash's Turtwig]] went up against {{p|Cherubi}} first, but it was returned. {{AP|Ash's Staravia|Staraptor}} defeated {{p|Cherubi}}. After {{AP|Staravia|Staraptor}} was defeated by [[Gardenia's Turtwig]], Ash sent his out. It resulted in [[Ash's Turtwig]]'s victory. {{p|Roserade}} beat Ash's Turtwig with its {{m|Weather Ball}}, but later was defeated by [[Dawn's Ambipom|Ash's Aipom]]'s {{m|Swift}} and {{m|Focus Punch}}. Gardenia made her debut when she took a walk in the Eterna Forest with her Cherubi and Roserade. She was enjoying the fresh air and the scent of the forest when she recognized the scent of Gastly in the forest. Following the scent, she met the trio ({{adv|Diamond}}, {{adv|Pearl}}, {{adv|Platinum}}}. She called out to the group, only to be ignored by them. Becoming annoyed with their attitude, she had her {{p|Roserade}} use {{m|Grass Knot}} to get their attention. She was surprised to hear that the trio had been to [[Old Chateau]] and fought the Ghost Pokémon in the place. Gardenia was supposed to investigate the place as a Gym Leader, but apparently was scared of ghosts. Revealing that she is a [[Gym Leader]], she challenged the trio to a Gym Battle.

Gardenia was the second [[Gym Leader]] that {{adv|Platinum}} had battled against, and the first to have a [[double battle]] against. Gardenia sent out {{p|Roserade}} and {{p|Cherubi}} against [[Platinum's Prinplup]] and [[Platinum's Rapidash|Ponyta]]. To avoid ice and fire attacks, Gardenia and her Pokémon kept a great distance away from their challenger. But the distance didn't trouble them. Her {{p|Roserade}} used poisonous vines to attack, sending vines from the ground. This move easily knocked out Ponyta with a single shot. {{p|Cherubi}} on the other hand used {{m|Grass Knot}}. The attacks seemed to corner Prinplup, especially because after its evolution, Prinplup was prone to heavier damage from Grass Knot attacks. But the battle resulted as {{adv|Platinum}}'s victory, after she used the holes in the ground (made from Roserade's vines) to her advantage by having Prinplup blow a {{m|Blizzard}} into the holes. The holes led the ice move directly to Gardenia's two Pokémon, making them unable to battle. Recognizing her defeat, Gardenia gave {{adv|Platinum}} the Forest Badge.

Officer Jenny is not a single entity. Rather, there are many Jennys working as police officers across the various regions of the [[Pokémon world]].

Generally, Officer Jennys are brave and determined, but mostly ineffective in their police duties. They fight against the likes of [[Team Rocket]], [[Team Magma]], [[Team Aqua]] and [[Team Galactic]] - among other miscellaneous criminals. The town/region where a certain Jenny comes from can be discerned by the symbol on their hats which always differs depending on location.

Although Jennys appear mostly identical, there is some minor divergence among them, as evidenced by {{an|Brock}}, who is able to recognize different Jennys on numerous occasions. Brock appears to be the only character who can tell them apart. However, each Jenny has a different symbol on her hat that indicates location. There seem to be two {{ci|Viridian}} Jennys, as during the [[Indigo League]], two Jennys with the same hat symbol were seen side-by-side. (We know that the symbol in question--a star--indicates Viridian due to previous episodes.) It can also be noted that the Jennys of the Orange Archipelago are outfitted with uniforms of a distinctly lighter blue, almost white in color. One of the Viridian Jennys maintains a fierce rivalry with the Jenny of [[Eterna City]]. The [[Unova]] region also have different looking Officer Jennys. Their hair is shorter and they have a different uniform.

Although there are many exceptions, Officer Jenny will generally have {{p|Growlithe}} to use as a police dog.

There is a very distinct parallel between the families of Officer Jenny, [[Nurse Joy]], and [[Don George]]. This may indicate some sort of relation or deeper connection However, the only thing known about the three families is that they are apparently on good terms.

{{Ash}}'s {{AP|Squirtle}} was given to an Officer Jenny who fights fires. It is the leader of a group of four other Squirtle known as the "[[Squirtle Squad]]", who serve as the local firefighting team.

A young Officer Jenny named [[Marble]] appeared in ''[[DP059|Luxray Vision!]]''. She was in charge of looking for "The Bandit Beauties Three." She was also voiced by 西村ちなみ ''Chinami Nishimura'' in Japanese, but voiced by [[Meghan McCracken]] in English.

An Officer Jenny from [[Kanto]] appeared in ''[[DP115|Stealing the Conversation!]]'' with a {{p|Chatot}} as her partner. Apparently, she had come all the way to [[Sinnoh]] to capture [[Jessie]], [[James]], and {{MTR}}.
