Metagross (Japanese: メタグロス Metagross) is a dual-type pseudo-legendary Pokémon.

It evolves from Metang starting at level 45. It is the final form of Beldum.

Biology
Physiology
Metagross has the appearance of a tremendous, quadrupedal tank-like Pokémon. Its turquoise-colored, discus-shaped main body appears to be its head, as it lies at the center point where its legs branch out to give the impression of a mechanized arachnid. Each leg could be viewed as the body of a former Beldum, and its head/body as the four collective heads of Beldum used to fuse into it. Metagross has a metallic cross adorning its face formed by its tusks crossing diagonally between its two red eyes, often viewed as the letter "X" by onlookers, and this cross-shape is arranged to resemble both metallic "eyebrows" and a metallic "mustache." This is said to represent Metagross's wise, computative nature.

In the same way that its pre-evolved form Metang is comprised by two Beldum, a still more basic evolution stage, so is Metagross formed by the joining of two Metang. This essentially means that four Beldum make up a Metagross (this could be compared to Magneton or Magnezone, both of which are comprised of 3 Magnemite). However, four Beldum come nowhere near to the size of a Metagross.

Gender differences
Metagross is a genderless species.

Special abilities
Metagross's intelligence is extraordinarily high: not only does it have four brains (one from each Beldum) but they are also connected by a highly complex neural network. Its developed cerebral powers are said to surpass even those of a supercomputer, similar to Alakazam. As a Psychic Pokémon, it can also use psychic abilities, including the ability to render its massive body airborne by telekinesis once it draws its legs together. Metagross's movepool isn't that much different than its predecessor, Metang. The only two moves that Metagross can learn that Metang lacks are Hammer Arm and Giga Impact.

Behavior
Possessing four brains, Metagross is an extremely wise Pokémon with unmatched intelligence. However, it is known to be a vicious predator-using its weight, it traps its prey under its body and devours them. Some are very aggressive and territorial of their homes and will not hesitate to attack intruders that trespass.

Habitat
This Pokémon lives in mountainous areas along with its evolutionary lines, but are even rarer than their pre-evolutions. It can easily live comfortably on very steep slopes by planting its legs into rock or ground. They can occasionally be found in Giant Chasm.

Diet
Pokémon food
Metagross is a brutal predator. When hunting, it pins its prey to the ground under its massive body. It then eats the helpless victim using its large mouth on its stomach.
Major appearances
Metagross was first seen in Destiny Deoxys under the ownership of Rebecca.

Metagross's anime debut was in Like a Meowth to a Flame as one of Tyson's Pokémon.

Salon Maiden's Metagross was seen in Talking a Good Game and Second Time's the Charm.

A Metagross also appeared in Glory Blaze! belonging to a Psychic.

A wild Shiny Metagross appeared in Noodles: Roamin' Off where it attacked TRT.

A wild Metagross appeared in Regaining the Home Advantage!, where it battled non-stop with a Magnezone. These two Pokémon normally battled with each other on a regular basis until their "battle arena" (a deep crater) became filled with water. Because their crater was no longer usable, they took their battle to the streets of a nearby town, and continued fighting, causing much collateral damage.

Minor appearances
Another Metagross appeared in Zoroark: Master of Illusions under the ownership of a Pokémon Baccer.

Emerald borrowed a Metagross caught by Crystal for use in the Battle Dome final against Dome Ace, which Emerald ultimately lost. Tucker himself also mentioned having a Metagross which has yet to be seen.

In the Pokémon Diamond and Pearl Adventure! manga
Koya has a Metagross which first appeared in A New Battle Begins!.
Super Smash Bros. Brawl
Upon its release from its Poké Ball, it will stay in one place and repeatedly use Earthquake. Anyone caught underneath the Pokémon will be buried into the ground and thus unable to move for a few moments, until Metagross uses its attack and all the hit characters are blasted upwards.

Metagross was featured as one of the Pokémon released from a Poké Ball in the demo of Super Smash Bros. Brawl at Jumpfesta; however, it hovered above the stage before attacking, unlike in the actual game.

Trophy Information
"An Iron Leg Pokémon. When two Beldum combine, they evolve into Metang. In the same way, Metagross is the result of two Metang combining. It's said to have the intelligence to match a supercomputer. Though it weighs 1,212.5 pounds, it is somehow able to fold up its legs and float."
Grumpig (Japanese: ブーピッグ Boopig) is a Psychic Pokémon.

It evolves from Spoink starting at level 32.

Biology
Grumpig is a bipedal, pig-like Pokémon. It has large ears, a pink snout, and oval eyes. The lower half of its body is black, while the upper half is purple. There are black markings on its ears and arms, while its hands and feet are purple. Its tail is pink and curly. There appear to be three shining black pearls on its body: two on its head, and another on its mid-section where the black meets the purple. These pearls are used to amplify its psychic powers, which allow it to control its opponents. The dance it performs while using its powers is very popular. It lives on List of Pokémon by habitat
Trivia
*Grumpig shares the same species name with Gothorita. They are both known as the Manipulate Pokémon.

Origin
It is possible the inspiration for Grumpig came from the biblical phrase The pearls were supposed to represent wisdom given to an audience who wouldn't appreciate the teachings. Grumpig and Spoink appear to instead use those pearls of wisdom to enhance their mental powers. It is also based on a pig.
Name origin
Grumpig may be a combination of grump and pig. Grump may also be a corruption of grunt, a sound that pigs make.

Boopig may be a combination of ブーブー būbū (the sound of grumbling or oinking) or 豚 buta (pig) and pig.
Lapras (Japanese: ラプラス Laplace) is a dual-type Pokémon.

It is not known to evolve into or from any other Pokémon.

Biology
Physiology
Lapras is a large sea creature that resembles a plesiosaur. It has List of Pokémon by body style, however its front ones are notably larger than its hind flippers. It has a long neck, and large black eyes. Lapras has curled ear-like appendages, and a short horn in the middle of its forehead. The majority of its body is blue, while its underside is a light cream color. Its most distinguishing feature is the heavy shell on its back, which is largely dotted with blunt knobs.

Gender differences
None.

Special abilities
Lapras is most known for its fondness of Surf.

Lapras also possess the ability to sing, putting Pokémon and people to sleep. Some Lapras are able to develop Psychic abilities such as telepathy, such as the one belonging to Santa Claus or Satoshi's in Pokémon Zensho.

Lapras is also able to wield Electric attacks, and, on rare occasions, some are able to use the Dragon move Dragon Pulse—possibly due to their likeness to the plesiosaur.

Unlike most Pokémon, Lapras has the ability to learn human speech.

Behavior
Lapras are social, highly intelligent Pokémon, and they swim through the sea in large pods. They keep track of their fellow pod members through use of high-pitched songs they constantly sing, much like whales. Unfortunately they are very docile and do not like to fight, which has made them an easy target for hunters. They are currently very rare in the wild. Their songs have become very sorrowful in recent times as it has become harder and harder for these peaceful Pokémon to find others of their kind.

Habitat
Lapras are native to the cold waters of glacial regions, but they migrate to tropical areas such as the Orange Archipelago to raise their young. They are extremely rare due to hunting, and are nearly extinct. They still exist in secluded spots in Johto, the Sevii Islands, Sinnoh, and Unova, suiting their rarity and docility.
In the Pokémon Adventures manga
spoilers
The most notable role of Lapras in Pokémon Adventures was being one of the Pokémon of Pryce. In his youth, Pryce lost two of his favorite Lapras, La Pris and La Prus, in an avalanche just as the Egg borne by them hatched. Unable to get over his loss, Pryce swore to save his Lapras and thus began researching into time travel, setting the events of the Johto saga in motion. Eventually, Pryce was able to capture Celebi and enter time, only to lose Celebi as the Poké Ball containing it was shattered, causing him to be unable to override time any further. However, the baby Lapras, La Glace, was able to enter the time in which Pryce's Lapras were separated, and the family enjoyed a happy reunion while Pryce was eventually lost in time.endspoilers

Years prior, in the Yellow, Blue is seen capturing a wild Lapras and giving it to a kid in a flashback that dates to around the same time as Red's first fight with Giovanni.
In The Electric Tale of Pikachu, Ash saves a Lapras from a swarm of Krabby tormenting it. Like in the anime, Ash used this Lapras as a mode of transportation through the Orange Islands saga. It is not known in this version if he releases it. Misty also uses one as a mode of transportation.
* Mystery Dungeon: Explorers of Time and Explorers of Darkness and Explorers of Sky: Lapras is the Pokémon that ferries Pokémon to the Hidden Land. When Wigglytuff explored the Brine Cave and found the strange marking on the wall there, Lapras asked Wigglytuff not to investigate it further to keep the Hidden Land a secret. When the player and partner had to get to the Hidden Land to save the world, Lapras responded to the presence of the Relic Fragment that matched the pattern on the wall, shooting a beam into the sea, summoning Lapras. Lapras ferries the player, the partner, and Grovyle to the Hidden Land, along the way telling the story of what happened when Wigglytuff and Chatot came to Brine Cave. Later, after the player defeats Dialga at Temporal Tower, Lapras will be waiting at the beach and can ferry the player and the partner back to the Hidden Land again. There is no limit to how many times Lapras can do this.
Trivia
* In the Pokémon Red and Blue beta, Lapras was originally going to be called "Ness", which is derived from the Loch Ness Monster.
* Due to their similar appearance, Shellos was initially thought to be a pre-evolution of Lapras. This was eventually proven to be Gastrodon.
* Excluding all legendary Pokémon, Lapras has the highest base stat total of a non-evolved Pokémon (with a grand total of 535 stat points). However, Lapras used to come second, as Snorlax used to hold this trait - having 5 more stat points than Lapras - until Generation IV, when Munchlax was introduced.
* Lapras was depicted with teeth in its Generation I official artwork and in Pokémon Adventures.
* Lapras is tied with Vanilluxe for having the highest base stat total of all non-legendary Ice Pokémon.
** It also has the highest base HP of all Ice types.
* Lapras is one of two Pokémon to use telepathy in a regular episode of the anime. The other is Ralts.
* Along with Pikachu, Lapras is one of Veronica Taylor's favorite Pokémon.

Origin
This Pokémon is based on the fabled Loch Ness Monster in Scotland. The creature and this Pokémon are said to resemble an extinct order of marine reptiles known as Plesiosauria. However, while Lapras has a long neck, it is not nearly as long as the necks of those in the order Plesiosauria, whereas Lapras's body is very similar to the creature that is said to be in Loch Ness. Lapras's intelligence, singing and rarity can be comparable with some cetaceans, especially blue whales and humpback whales. It is also possible that its long neck and head (as well as its whole body) take some inspiration from the mast heads and hulls of Viking ships.

Name origin
Lapras is a corruption of Laplace.

Laplace may be a reference to Pierre-Simon Laplace, a mathematician who wrote several books on the mathematical properties of the sea and tides, or derive from la place (French for seat), referring to how passengers sit on its back like a seat to be ferried across bodies of water. It may also derived from Lapis, a bright blue gem.
Recruitment rate question
Does the recruitment bonus for high levels stack up? For example if I have a Swampert at Level 96 and a Mewtwo at level 90, do I get a 50% recruitment rate bonus? I'm trying to recruit Rayquaza and it would help to know.
:No, only the leader factors into bonuses. The most boost you can get is 33.9%, provided you have a high enough level as well as a Friend Bow equipped (at least for PMD1; there may be items in the PMD2 pair, PMD3, or the PMD4 trio that have higher recruitment boosts). --Shiningpikablu252 13:47, 21 November 2009 (UTC)
Limit
Has anyone recruited over 552 Pokemon? (that is 69 x 8, i.e. 69 full pages). I reached this a few hours ago and could never recruit anymore (not even in Drenched Bluff!). It is very frustrating having gone through to Zapdos with a level 100 leader + Amber Tear and not recruit a thing on the way (including 59% recruit rate Zapdos!) 5 times. Makes me regret recruiting all those Unowns!

Perhaps there's a technical reason for it? I'm not sure, the number does not say anything to me. But it might have a set limit rounded down for the sake of having a multiple of 8.

I'll add it to the page, but if anyone else has reached 70 pages (preferably on Darkness/Time) feel free to revert my edit. -- Pokey 22:31, 12 July 2010 (UTC)
:It's probably just a space thing, but I don't think there's any technical reason. It's not like for EVs where 255 is the number which can fit into a single byte. In this case it isn't just keeping track of a number, so it'll just be how many places were assigned. There should still be enough space for you to recruit one of every Pokémon though. 492 Pokémon available, + 27 'other' forms of Unown, plus two 'other' Wormadam cloaks makes 521, so there should be plenty of space. You might need to "Say Farewell" to a few of the duplicates you must have to open up more space for non-duplicates. <span style="color:#2D4B98;">Werdnae</span> <small><span style="color:#009000;">(talk)</span></small> 22:41, 12 July 2010 (UTC)
::You're probably right with space being the reason. I recruited a lot of Pokemon because at the time I didn't know what the effects of a doom seed was. I intended to fill in the levels of Pokemon in regions and recruiting them was the only way to check besides using seeds. Thus, my roster got full extremely fast, and I was much too lazy to release them. I didn't come here to ask why - if I need help I wouldn't post on the wiki's talk page (as I believe they are designed for discussing the article, not the topic) but to comment on my errors, if it is one, as it is unintentional. Anyway, I released several Pokemon and to no surprise, I could recruit the very first Anorith I saw in Drenched Bluff. -- Pokey 23:06, 12 July 2010 (UTC)

Recruitment is the main method of obtaining new Pokémon in the Pokémon Mystery Dungeon: Red Rescue Team and Blue Rescue Team, their sequels, and Pokémon Mystery Dungeon: Gates to Infinity while inside a mystery dungeon. After defeating an enemy in a dungeon, it will occasionally offer to join the player's team.

In Red Rescue Team and Blue Rescue Team, if a newly-recruited Pokémon&mdash;a recruit who has never cleared or warped out a dungeon&mdash;or the team's leader faints before making it out of the dungeon, it will leave the party permanently. Dungeons consisting of multiple parts&mdash;such as Mt. Thunder&mdash;will account reaching checkpoint as making it out.

The games contain items that increase the chance of Pokémon asking to be recruited. These are important as the base recruit rate of certain Pokémon, most notably Kecleon, is below zero.

There is a limit of 413 Pokémon at one time in Pokémon Mystery Dungeon: Red Rescue Team and Blue Rescue Team. In Pokémon Mystery Dungeon: Explorers of Time and Explorers of Darkness, the limit is instead 522 Pokémon.<!-- check other games please-->

Requirements
In addition to the prospective recruit having an effective recruit rate higher than zero, there are several other prerequisites for recruiting a certain Pokémon to be possible:
* In the first two games, offers will only be made if there is space in the current party. In the sequels and Pokémon Mystery Dungeon: Gates to Infinity, this requirement was removed. Instead, excess members simply warp out of the dungeon. In Explorers of the Sky and Gates to Infinity, players can choose which member to send home.
* The team leader must deal the finishing blow that causes the enemy to faint.
* The enemy must be adjacent to the team leader when the finishing blow is delivered. However, Pokémon that are not immediately recruited when the final blow is dealt, but after a short cutscene (many Legendary Pokémon for instance), are an exception to this rule.
* Some Pokémon, such as Omastar in Brine Cave are unrecruitable. In addition, many boss legendary Pokémon cannot be recruited on the first visit. In Rescue Team, all but nine fully-evolved Pokémon cannot be recruited and have to be acquired via evolving.

incomplete

Fast Friend
The IQ Skill "Fast Friend" raises the recruitment rate by 1%. It's important to notice this 1% is crucial for recruiting Kecleon, which has a recruitment rate of -49.5% (-33.9% in Pokémon Mystery Dungeon: Red Rescue Team and Blue Rescue Team), making it impossible to be recruited with only a high level Pokémon and a Golden Mask/Amber Tear.

Fast Friend is learned only by Pokémon in IQ Groups B and H.
Further Friend Bows can be purchased from Kecleon shops in Joyous Tower. In the Time and Darkness versions, the Friend Bow is supplemented with a number of other items, but can still be bought from Kecleon Shops in Zero Isle North. In Explorers of Sky, the Friend Bow is able to be won as a prize item from the Recycle Shop in Spinda's Cafe.
