As first revealed Japan's CoroCoro Magazine, Giratina has two forms. The first (Another Forme) is the form seen in [[Pokémon Diamond and Pearl Versions]]. In this form, Giratina is a large, gray, centipede-like creature with six short legs. Its legs have golden claws and a gold band on them. It has a tail and a thick black stripe running vertically along the front of its body. There is a series of red horizontal stripes running across the large black one. Three golden half-rings circle the back half of Giratina's neck at the same points that three of the red stripes are at on its front, resembling a ribcage. On its back are two large, black wings that are decorated with red, conical objects. The wings seem oddly out of place, due to the fact that Giratina seems far too heavy to fly effectively. Giratina's head and eyes resemble those of {{p|Dialga}} and {{p|Palkia}}, making many have a theory that it is related to the two. Giratina's [[alternate coloration|shiny]] form is almost a perfect negative of the original.

The second is a new Origin Forme which will debut in ''[[Giratina and the Sky's Bouquet: Shaymin]]''; it uses this form when traveling through different dimensions. This form is more serpentine than Giratina's Another Forme. The Origin Forme of Giratina has six black streamers on its back that each have a red spike at the end. Giratina's legs have been reduced to looking like spikes. There are four more golden spikes near the edge of the tail. This version of Giratina will make an in-game appearance in the upcoming {{game|Platinum}}.

Giratina is one out of seven Pokémon that is capable using {{m|Aura Sphere}}. Since Giratina is a "true" Dragon Pokémon, it is also capable of using {{m|Draco Meteor}}.

Rarity and Area refer to how common or uncommon a Pokémon is. What precedes them are the initials of the versions that the specific instance applies to, [[Pokémon Red and Blue Versions|RB]], [[Pokémon Yellow Version|Y]], [[Pokémon Gold and Silver Versions|GS]], [[Pokémon Crystal Version|C]], [[Pokémon Ruby and Sapphire Versions|RS]], [[Pokémon Emerald Version|E]], [[Pokémon FireRed and LeafGreen Versions|FRLG]], [[Pokémon Colosseum|Colo]], [[Pokémon XD: Gale of Darkness|XD]], and [[Pokémon Diamond and Pearl|DP]]. For example, whatever is entered into the frlgarea should be where the Pokémon can be found in FireRed and LeafGreen. Likewise, frlgrarity should be how rare the Pokémon is in FireRed and LeafGreen. If only one is found, such as is the case with {{p|Mewtwo}}, put "One". If it can only be found through evolution, put "None" and for the area prompt put "[[Evolve]] (pre-evolution)", replacing (pre-evolution) with the name of the Pokémon it evolves from. Likewise, if it is only available through breeding, put "None" and in the area prompt put "[[Breed]] (evolutions)", replacing (evolutions) with the Pokémon that must produce the egg.

Rarity defaults to "None", Area defaults to "[[Trade]]". Therefore, if it can only be found through [[Pal Park]] in Diamond and Pearl, this must be entered in the dparea prompt.
