Some Bulbapedia members have formed a [[Bulbapedia:Project|project]] to better organize efforts pertaining to sprites on Bulbapedia. If you would like to help, please inquire on the talk page or the [http://bmgf.bulbagarden.net/forumdisplay.php?f=195 Bulbapedia forum]. Please also read the [[Bulbapedia:Project SpriteDex/To-do list|to-do list]].

==Project SpriteDex==
===Scope and aims===
Project SpriteDex aims to complete and perfect Bulbapedia's sprite library. In short, any links where images should be must be replaced with the proper image, and any sprites with white backgrounds must be made transparent. Whenever the next generation of Pokémon games is released, the project will focus its attention on the new sprites.

Project SpriteDex also aims to get animated sprites for games this applies to; currently the main series games with animated Pokémon sprites are Pokémon Crystal, Emerald, Diamond, Pearl, Platinum, HeartGold and SoulSilver Versions. While GIF is currently used for the Crystal and Emerald sprites, eventually the support for this old format will be dropped in favor of animated PNG images.

One more aspect of Project SpriteDex is to get every sprite in Bulbagarden Archives to be correctly categorized. There are still many sprites without the correct templates added to their pages.

===Participants===
To join the project, simply add your name to the bottom of this list:
===Structure===
====Regular Pokémon sprites====
The correct format to categorize regular Pokémon sprites (the ones starting with "Spr") is as follows:
<nowiki>==Summary==
{{gamesprite|Dex|Name|Sprite type|Game(s)|The additional S for "versions", if applies}}
==Licensing:==
{{i-Fairuse-sprite-game}}</nowiki>
* Dex is the National Pokédex number for the Pokémon.
* Name is the English name for the Pokémon, or if the English name of the Pokémon is not known yet, this is the name the Pokémon article at Bulbapedia has.
* Sprite type tells what kind of sprite it is. There are several different types, which are as follows:
** all - This one goes for every regular sprite of Generations I to III, and for those regular sprites that apply to both genders in Generation IV.
** shiny - This is for sprites of {{shiny2}} sprites with no gender differences.
** male - This is for Generation IV sprites' male versions.
** shiny male - The above one with shininess.
** female - The same as above, only with female versions.
** shiny female - You can guess this one.
* Game(s) are the versions the sprite is from, for example "Platinum" or "FireRed and LeafGreen".
* Add an S to the last parameter, if you put paired games to the Game(s) part. Otherwise you may omit the last parameter.

If the sprite is used in multiple games (counting paired games as one game), put one copy of the gamesprite template for each of the games.

If the sprite is animated PNG, add the <tt><nowiki>{{anipng}}</nowiki></tt> template to the description.

====Goals====
# To provide sprites of every Pokémon for every [[Generation]]
# To change all nontransparent sprites to transparent
# To make sure each sprite is correct in terms of size, orientation, etc.

==Characteristics==
The Dragon-type is statistically the best of all types overall. Because of the minimal amount of weaknesses that they have, they often find a way onto trainers' [[party|teams]]. The downside to the supposed power that they have is that they are slightly harder to raise, with many of them not evolving from their first stage to their second until a [[level]] at which many Pokémon are near their final evolutions, and their final evolution near level 50. Most Dragon-type [[Pokémon]] have high [[Stats#Attack|Attack]] and [[Stats#Special Attack|Special Attack]], and paired with their incredibly diverse movepools, they are one of the best in the games.

The Dragon-type is good offensively. Even though only Dragons themselves are Dragon-weak, the only type that resists Dragon is Steel, giving them good use of their STAB. Dragon/Fire, a common attacking combination among Dragons, is resisted together only by {{p|Heatran}}. {{m|Dragon Dance}} is also a very common move for physical sweepers.

Defensively, they have key resistances to Electric, Grass, Water and Fire, enabling them to block certain Pokémon. However, every fully-[[Evolution|evolved]], non-[[Legendary Pokémon|legendary]] Dragon-type except {{p|Kingdra}} has a double weakness to {{type2|Ice}} moves, due to their secondary [[types]].

As of [[Generation IV]], all fully-evolved Dragon-types also have a secondary type.

When used in contests, Dragon-type moves typically become [[Cool Contest|Cool]] moves, but some may be [[Smart Contest|Smart]] or [[Tough Contest|Tough]] moves.

In total, there are nineteen Pokémon with the Dragon-type, one more than the {{type2|Ghost}}, thus making it the Pokémon type with the second fewest number of Pokémon.
==Trivia==
* In [[Generation I]], there was only one Dragon-type attack, {{m|Dragon Rage}}; but because it always deals 40 HP of damage, there was no way to do variable Dragon-type damage. There is speculation that this is the reason that {{p|Gyarados}} is not part Dragon-type.
* Also, Dratini's family were the only {{type2|Dragon}} [[Pokémon]] of [[Generation I]]
* It has been speculated that if {{p|Eevee}} receives another evolution in a future game, it would be Dragon, being the only formerly all-special type left that Eevee has yet to evolve into.
** If it followed the pure-type pattern of the other [[Eeveelution]]s, this would make it the only pure fully-evolved Dragon-type Pokémon so far.
* There are only eleven Dragon-type moves, the fewest of any type.
** Eight of those eleven moves are [[Cool Contest|Cool moves]] in {{pkmn|Contests}}. The only three that aren't are new in [[Generation IV]], meaning that in Hoenn Contests, ''all'' Dragon-type moves were Cool moves.
** The Dragon-type also has the fewest number of non-damaging moves out of all of the types, with only one, {{m|Dragon Dance}}.
* Even though the Dragon-type has always been considered nearly legendary, no actual Dragon-type [[legendary Pokémon|legendaries]] were introduced until [[Generation III]]'s {{p|Latios}}, {{p|Latias}}, and {{p|Rayquaza}}.
* The Dragon-type resists moves of the primary types of all [[main series]] [[starter Pokémon]] available for {{player}}s, including {{p|Pikachu}}.
* The Dragon-type is one of the two types that are weak to their own moves, together with the {{type2|Ghost}}.
* Even though dragons are known in real-life legends as fire-breathers, there is yet to be a dual-type {{t|Fire}}/Dragon or Dragon/Fire Pokémon, though most Dragon-types can use Fire-type moves.
* The Dragon-type has the dubious honor of being one of three types that will never be doubly [[Damage modification|super effective]] against any Pokémon, as it is only super effective against one type. It shares this trait with the {{type2|Poison}} which is only super effective against {{type2|Grass}}s, and the {{type2|Normal}}, which isn't super effective against anything.
** By the same manner, the Dragon-type is also the only type that will never be doubly resisted by anything, as only {{t|Steel}} resists it.
* {{p|Charizard}}, {{p|Gyarados}}, {{p|Aerodactyl}} and {{p|Sceptile}} are often considered to be Dragon-types due to their appearance, egg group, movepool and use by in-game trainers as dragons. However, they are not Dragon-types.
* The final evolutions of all pure Dragon-type Pokémon are [[Pseudo-legendary|pseudo-legendaries]].
* The Dragon-type is statistically the best type, as its average fully evolved stat never goes below base 95.
* All pure Dragon-type Pokémon have a different ability from their final evolution; {{p|Dratini}} and {{p|Dragonair}} have {{a|Shed Skin}}, whereas {{p|Dragonite}} has {{a|Inner Focus}}, and {{p|Bagon}} and {{p|Shelgon}} have {{a|Rock Head}}, whereas {{p|Salamence}} has {{a|Intimidate}}.
* Only four Dragon-type Pokémon are neither legendary nor part of a pseudo-legendary's family; all of them evolve from non-Dragon-type Pokémon.
* Not counting numerous [[legendary Pokémon]], the only dual-type Dragon Pokémon that does not sport a double weakness to the {{type2|Ice}} is {{p|Kingdra}}.
** Most of these legendary Dragons don't have any weakness to the Ice-type at all. In fact, only three dual-type Dragon Pokémon have a normal weakness to the Ice-type: {{p|Latias}}, {{p|Latios}}, and {{p|Giratina}}.
*** Interestingly, they are all weak to {{t|Dark}} and {{t|Ghost}} because of their other type.
* Dragon-type is also unique in the fact that they can ''all'' learn {{m|Draco Meteor}} by [[move tutor]], and are the only type that can learn it at all (excluding {{p|Jirachi}} and {{p|Smeargle}}).
* Almost half (9) of all Dragon type Pokémon were introduced in Generation III.
* All fully evolved or legendary Dragon-type Pokémon have either a x4 resistance or immunity.

==Characteristics==

==Trivia==
* All pure Dragon-type Pokémon have a different ability from their final evolution; {{p|Dratini}} and {{p|Dragonair}} have {{a|Shed Skin}}, whereas {{p|Dragonite}} has {{a|Inner Focus}}, and {{p|Bagon}} and {{p|Shelgon}} have {{a|Rock Head}}, whereas {{p|Salamence}} has {{a|Intimidate}}.

==Characteristics==

==Trivia==
* All pure Dragon-type Pokémon have a different ability from their final evolution; {{p|Dratini}} and {{p|Dragonair}} have {{a|Shed Skin}}, whereas {{p|Dragonite}} has {{a|Inner Focus}}, and {{p|Bagon}} and {{p|Shelgon}} have {{a|Rock Head}}, whereas {{p|Salamence}} has {{a|Intimidate}}.
