ContestShipping (Japanese: シュウハル ShuHaru) is the name given to the May and Drew coupling supported by many fans of the Pokémon anime. The name stems from the fact that the pair are rivals who compete against each other in Pokémon Contests.

The pair first met in Slateport City during Now That's Flower Power!, where Drew became May's version of Gary in the way he treated and spoke to her, criticizing her skills and generally being haughty. The nature of their relationship gradually changed as the series went on, finally coming to a subplot climax in the episode The Unbeatable Lightness of Seeing! that seemingly put this Ship on the clear track to being canon over the litter of one-sided canon relationships that bloomed before it.

However, it fell short of bluntly revealing any feelings, left merely as strongly implications that any feelings between them were mutual or even there, and in turn leaves the absolution of this Ship's canonization in question, as it was not brought up during May's brief return to the group in Sinnoh. Ultimately, as canon as supporters feel it is, its opposers feel there remains a gap just wide enough for argument in favor of its Ship rival, Advance, and continue the debate between the two.

Evidence
* Now That's Flower Power!
: In Drew's first episode Drew seemed to like her from the moment he saw her because he would not make fun of her act if he never saw it. Also he seemed very unhappy when May did not finish their battle.

* Win, Lose or Drew!
: Drew's second appearance on the television series introduces the recurring theme of Drew giving May roses. Drew hands his rose to May who stares at it in surprise. She blushes and thanks him for the rose to which Drew responds with, "It's not for you, it's for your May! It looks like the coordinator still has a lot of training to do."

* Pros and Con Artists!
: After May's Beautifly performs its failed Gust and String Shot combination, Drew appears and makes a negative comment about May's ability as a coordinator. He openly flirts with May this time, claiming that he's flattered that she remembered his name and subsequently hands her a second rose. Before he leaves, he warns May to not "get her hopes up." His excuse for coming to talk to her was to see Beautifly, a common excuse at the beginning of the series.

* Come What May!
: Upon receiving her first ribbon from the Fallarbor Contest, May is congratulated by Drew, who delivers his third rose. Upon receiving it, May asks Drew rather coyly if the rose is for Beautifly again, indicating that she has suspicions as to the true nature of his roses. Drew slightly admits that the roses aren't really for Beautifly as he responds to her question with a dubious, "Yeah... Something like that..."

* Who, What, When, Where, Wynaut?
: One scene includes a closeup of May and Drew holding hands while falling down a cliff. Another interesting thought is that both May and Drew rescued the other; May rescuing Drew while he was about to drown along the river and Drew rescuing May from Team Rocket. Also, when May says that Brock would know what to do, Drew looks slightly jealous. Additionally, when May joins in the Wynauts' little "party", the camera sequence indicates that Drew is watching May closely.

* Hi Ho Silver Wind
: Amidst May and Drew's conversation, Harley interrupts and notices that May has received her fourth rose from Drew. He immediately suspects that May and Drew are in love which causes May to blush and protest at Harley's remark. She quickly responds that Drew mostly made fun of her and they were just rivals. After Harley left, Drew quickly walked away in a huff, suspecting that he was disappointed in May's description of him.

: While Harley is talking to May in the background, Drew is seen in the foreground sulking, indicating that he's jealous of Harley. Although his behavior may be passed off as suspicion, Drew makes no apparent efforts to stave May away from Harley's false advice.

* Deceit and Assist
: While May was following Harley's false advice, Drew constantly watches Harley, and catches him slipping up. Later on, when May apologizes for not going through with Skitty's Assist the whole way, Drew tells her about Harley's plan. Unbelieving, May went face to face with a foiled Harley, who remarked, albeit rather angrily, in turn that, "It almost worked too, and you never would have known if your annoying boyfriend over here had kept his trap shut." Neither May nor Drew bothered correcting his statement.

* Rhapsody In Drew!
: When May and Drew say their goodbyes at the end of the episode, Drew mentions that he'd like to see May again in the next Grand Festival. May then blushingly stares at Drew as he walks away down the beach. She barely seems to acknowledge Ash, Brock, Max, and her mother, all who have come over and are standing right next to her.

: While May is talking to her friends and family, May's mother, Caroline, interrupts and teases her daughter about Drew. In response, May overreacts and protests in embarrassment.

* Harley Rides Again
: At the end of the episode following May's defeat to Harley, May receives a letter and a rose from Drew via Lilian which informs her of another Contest where she can again qualify for another ribbon. It is noted that this rose is given an unusual amount of focus during this double-take in which it takes up the entire screen.

* Odd Pokémon Out
: May is holding the rose and the letter she receives in the previous episode while on a boat. She apparently considers these two items as sentimental to her. As May already knows quite well what Drew means with the roses at this point in time now, her keeping and looking at Drew's romantic token that appeared in a prior episode is quite significant.

* Spontaneous Combusken!
: It is revealed that the rose and the letter was not sent by Drew but by a rookie coordinator named Brianna. May teases Drew about the mix-up, rationalizing that it's not her fault for thinking the rose and the letter was from him. Drew gets slightly embarrassed and blushes when his Roselia begins teasing him as well.

: Brianna presses the question if May likes Drew or not. In response, May's behavior becomes cautious and coy as she blushes and reacts sensitively to the idea of her and Drew being a couple.

: After the battle with Brianna and May, Ash asks Drew how he thinks about it, he replies with a "so-so." Brock remarks teasingly with, "Gee, Drew, why don't you tell us how you really feel?"

: Jessie observes May's affections twice in this episode. She first comments about being in love when talking to Brianna and May. The second time, she's sitting with James on the beach, commenting and reminiscing on romance. James and MTR observe from a distance, confused with her out of character personality.

: At the end of the episode, Drew reminds May that she only has two ribbons left until the Grand Festival in Kanto. Again, Drew walks off on the beach with May staring after him, blushing.

* Going for Choke
: When Ash, Brock and Max fly away with Team Rocket's Balloon, Drew follows it and rescues them. When Ash thanks him later, Drew says that he only did it for May, so someone could cheer her on.
: Near the end of the episode, when May talks to her friends, Drew appears again. Ash starts recounting how Drew saved the party only to have May rushing over to Drew without listening to him. Max tells Ash that she didn't hear what he had to say.
: When Drew says goodbye, May whispers his name and smiles as he walks away.

* May, We Harley Drew'd Ya!
: May meets Solidad, one of Drew's old friends, and talk for a bit. Solidad tells her that she and Drew are close, and talk to each other often. When May asks her what they talk about, Solidad smiles and tells her, "He's the type who never listens to anyone else's advice. So, we end up talking about other coordinators we might've seen in performance, and at some point, he started in on you. You and only you." Later, Solidad tells May, "He's gotten feelings for you." This left May confused.

* Channeling the Battle Zone
: At the end of the episode, Solidad gives May a rose from Drew. May runs after him to say goodbye. When Drew leaves, Ash, Brock, Max and Scott show up. May looks quietly while smiling at the rose she had received.

* The Unbeatable Lightness of Seeing!
: When May and Drew are talking alone, May says, "I've been thinking a lot about you lately." Drew quickly but calmly replies, "Were they good thoughts?" May quickly responds saying, "Come on, of course they were!" She then continues to talk about their past fondly.
:Near the end of the episode, Drew and May look at the sunset together. They continue to talk until they are interrupted by Harley who discusses the connection between sunsets and romance. May immediately tries to dispute that notion, despite blushing in front of him.
Crossing Paths (Japanese: さよならドクケイル！ Goodbye, Dokucale!) is the 73rd episode of Diamond & Pearl, and the 539th episode of the Pokémon anime. It first aired in Japan on April 3, 2008, along with Pika and Goliath! as a one-hour special and in the United States on August 23, 2008

Synopsis
The episode opens with Dawn and Pikachu singing as they walk along a path. Piplup stops suddenly, and Dawn asks it what the matter is. Piplup's stomach rumbles and Ash comments that Piplup is hungry and Brock says that there is a Pokémon Center nearby, so the group race ahead, much to Piplup's disappointment. Meanwhile Team Rocket contemplate their lunch, and Jessie asks James and MTR to tell her when they have finished making it from the fruit on the trees and then goes off to train for her contests. The group reach the edge of the forest and come out to the edge of a picturesque lake with the Pokémon Center on the shore nearby.

Jessie calls out Jessie, which is wearing yellow ribbons on its antennae that match the ones in Jessie's contest disguise. Jessie goes on about how they will win another ribbon, while James and Meowth comment on how she has gained confidence since her last win. Dustox then notices something and flies off with Jessie trailing behind. Eventually Dustox reaches a lake, and Jessie sees it flying in circles with a shiny2 Dustox. The dust from their wings forms a heart shape. The other Dustox's trainer comes out from behind a tree and introduces himself as Austin. He tells Jessie that when there is a full moon, Dustox from all over the area pair up and fly over Mt. Coronet in a large arch-like formation. Austin says that he will see Jessie that night, and calls his Dustox to him as he walks off. Jessie watches them go, and then looks up as a flock of Pidgey fly past.

Sitting by the lake, Jessie discovers that her Dustox is madly in love and recalls her younger self. She was preparing to audition for the theater with two friends. Then she is walking along next to a lake with a boy who looks remarkably like Austin. He tells her that he is leaving to become a Coordinator, and suggest that she should come with him. She declines, since her audition is in a couple of days. At the audition her friends are accepted but Jessie is not, bringing her to tears. Jessie then wonders what would have happened if she had gone with Astin that day. Just the a large storm brews and a bolt of lightning strikes a tree. Dustox flies into Jessie punching her back, just as a rock breaks where she was standing. Dustox looks on worriedly at Jessie, who has been knocked out.

Back at the Pokémon Center the group is watching the storm in amazement. Nurse Joy says that she hopes that it won't affect the Dustox crossing, and Brock tries to win oven Nurse Joy, but Brock Poison Jab him and drags him away. Ash and Dawn ash Nurse Joy about the crossing, and Brock says that he is interested as well, causing Dawn to comment that her recovers quickly. Joy explains, while Brock begins to swoon again, but is quickly stopped by Croagunk. At that point Austin runs in and tells them that the trees by the lake have been struck by lightning, and the water is flooding out of the lake. Back at the lake Jessie fantasizes about accepting Astin's offer to come with him, but when he turns around he turns into Jessie. Jessie wakes up and thanks Dustox for saving her, then notices that the edge of the lake has been destroyed and the water is flooding out. She wonders what will come of the crossing, and then explains to James and Meowth that she has decides to let Dustox go with its love.

The group then arrive at the lake side, and Austin says that he wanted his Dustox to join the crossing this year. Joy says that the crossing may not happen this year, then Ash suddenly runs towards the water. The rest of the group then follow him. When they reach the water's edge they see Team Rocket piling rocks up to try and create a dam. Team Rocket start their motto, but Jessie cuts it short and demands that they help stop the water. After a quick chat about how if the lake drains the crossing won't happen, the group resolve to work together. Ash calls out Turtwig, Chimchar and Buizel, while the others call out all their Pokémon. Everyone works together to dam the flow, with Brock carrying rocks much larger than itself. Joy suggests that to finish the dam they need to spray it with water and then freeze it with Ice Beam. Buizel uses Water Gun and Piplup uses Whirlpool, hitting the Water Gun and soaking the rocks. Dawn then uses Ice Beam to freeze the dam, finally stopping the flow.

As the group cheer, Joy points out that the lake is much lower than usual, and it is thought that the melting slow raises the water level to reflect the Full moon in such a way as to attract the Dustox. Buizel uses Water Gun and Piplup uses Whirlpool, pushing snow down, while Chimchar uses Flamethrower to melt it. Joy still isn't sure if there is enough water in the lake. The Dustox both look down at the water had flowed out of the lake. Austin suggests that his Dustox could lift the water up with Confusion, and Jessie Suggests that her Dustox could use Whirlwind to blow it back into the lake. James is skeptical, but they decide that it is worth a shot. As they finish the lake begins to glow orange. Jessie and Austin congratulate the Dustox.

That night, Joy says that the conditions are perfect for the crossing. Jessie tells Dustox to go, and both Dustox begin to fly across the lake, but then Dustox flies back to Jessie. She remembers trying to catch up with the bus as Astin left when she was a child. Dustox still refuses to leave so she drops its Poké Ball on the ground and then steps on it, crushing it, telling it to go with its love. Dustox sadly flies off and Jessie starts to cry, remembering back to when she caught it as a Wurmple, and when it was a Cascoon, and finally winning her ribbon with it as a Dustox. She calls out to Dustox telling it to be happy. James and Meowth also say goodbye. The Dustox then form the golden arch and start to fly away. Austin and Jessie then say one last farewell to their Dustox. The narrator comments on the bond between trainer and Pokémon then suggests that one day Jessie will find her love as well as the episode draws to a close.
Trivia
*Together With the Wind is used as background music.
*This is the first time a main character purposely damages one of the Poké Balls of one of their Pokémon. Jessie does so, shattering Dustox's completely, in order to release it, as Dustox refused to leave her.
*Jessie's reason for releasing Dustox is very similar to the reason why Ash released his Butterfree. Also, Dustox's yellow ribbons could be seen as a reference to Butterfree's yellow scarf.
*The Japanese opening is updated with the evolutions of Dawn's Ambipom and Paul's Honchkrow, as well as the captures of Ash's Gligar and Paul's Magmar.
*When Jessie is shown as a young girl in her flashback, her hair style is similar to that of her mother, Miyamoto.
*When the dub title was first revealed, several sources incorrectly believed it to be the dub title for the first half of the Ranger 2 special.
*In the dub, this is the first episode not to have an exclamation point in its title since Throwing the Track Switch.
*Team Rocket does not blast off in this episode.
* Professor Oak's Pokémon lecture: Dawn's Ambipom
* This episode marks the first time that Professor Oak's lecture regards a Pokémon that has previously been the subject of a lecture (that being Ash's Aipom in the segment at the end of DP014).
* This is the first episode to feature a Shiny Pokémon in the Diamond & Pearl.

Errors
*When Ash calls out "everybody" from his party to help stop the lake from draining, the only Pokémon he calls out are Buizel, Chimchar, and Turtwig. Gligar and Staravia weren't called out and Pikachu, of course, was already out.
*Jessie's name is never mentioned in front of Austin, yet he uses her name to say she's right.
Misty Meets Her Match (Japanese: ユズジム！タイプバトル３ＶＳ３！！ Yuzu Gym! Type Battle 3 VS 3!!) is the 103rd episode of the Pokémon anime. It was first broadcast in Japan on July 1, 1999 and in the United States on September 9, 2000.
spoilers
Synopsis
Getting a ferry from Trovitopolis, Ash, Pikachu, Misty, Misty, and Tracey are finally going to make it to Trovita Island, which is surrounded by an amount of whirlpools and huge spiked rocks. Ash is determined to get his third Orange League Gym Badge. Suddenly, Pikachu spots a little girl and a Seel caught in the strong current, crying for help. Misty jumps into action by sending out Misty and then swims down to rescue the girl. Ash joins in by sending out Lapras and helping Misty bring the girl up onto the surface. Meanwhile, a young man has been watching the whole thing, and is impressed by Misty's actions.

Team Rocket are not too far behind, and their submarine gets caught in one of the whirlpools.

While riding Lapras the rest of the way to Trovita Island, Ash and Misty ask the girl what she was doing out on the current. The girl, who introduces herself as Mahri, says that she and her Seel were just playing when the current sucked them in. Misty then tells Marhi to always be careful next time she goes swimming. As Lapras and the ship both arrive in port, the young man, who later introduces himself as Rudy, arrives to embrace Mahri, who is revealed to be his sister, and thank Misty for rescuing her by offering plenty of flowers. Rudy then hands Togepi to Ash, then dances with Misty. He compliments the young water Pokémon Trainer on her daring rescue of Mahri, and asks if she could train the other Pokémon trainers at his gym. Misty and Ash are both awestruck that Rudy is the Trovita Island Gym Leader. Ash wastes no time in challenging Rudy. After a war of words, Rudy tells Ash that if he wants to challenge him, he has to pass a small attack test.

The group head off to Rudy's speedboat, and Ash must knock down all the targets in order to challenge Rudy. Ash is successful with Pikachu on the first target, but Rudy is too busy looking at Misty instead of paying attention. Ash sends out Charizard, who singes Misty with its flames. Ash quickly calls Charizard back, apologizes to Misty, then continues with the test.

Team Rocket show up again, meanwhile, Ash destroys another target appears in front of them, and Squirtle destroys it with a Water Gun, causing a tree to fall and send Team Rocket flying. Ash then has an easy time using Pikachu, Squirtle, and Bulbasaur to destroy the remaining targets, and eventually passes the test. As night falls, Rudy schedules the gym battle for tomorrow, and invites Misty to join him and Marhi for dinner, leaving Ash, Pikachu, and Tracey high and dry.

A few minutes later, Ash is talking to Professor Oak on the telephone, and Oak wishes Ash good luck in his match with Rudy tomorrow. Tracey then butts in and shows Oak his latest Pokémon sketches, while Ash and Pikachu sit down to eat a takeaway meal.

Meanwhile, Rudy, Mahri, and Misty finish an exquisite dinner and head down to the gym to see Rudy's Pokémon working out by dancing to music as a way of improving their skills. Rudy and Misty get out on the dance floor, shortly followed by Mahri and Togepi. Rudy asks Misty if she would stay with him and Mahri forever. Given food for thought by those words, Misty stops dancing to think about it, while Rudy tells her to make her decision after the match tomorrow.

The next morning, Ash and Rudy are both ready to battle each other on top of one of the island's huge spikes. The spectators, Misty, Togepi, Tracey, and Mahri included, watch from a hot-air balloon, and one of Rudy's friends does commentary while riding a Pidgeot. As the match begins, Ash sends out Pikachu, and Rudy sends out Electabuzz, since both are Electric Pokémon. Pikachu tries to take down Electabuzz with a Thunderbolt and a Quick Attack, but Electabuzz defeats Pikachu with a ThunderPunch, giving the first victory to Rudy.

Meanwhile, Mahri asks Misty what Rudy said to her last night. Misty uneasily answers that it was nothing important, but obviously, she's still thinking about the offer from Rudy.

For the next round, both trainers will use Grass Pokémon, so Ash sends out Bulbasaur, and Rudy sends out Exeggutor, as well as ask for some music. Exeggutor easily avoids Bulbasaur's Razor Leaf attack by dancing to avoid the leaves, then knocks Bulbasaur down with an Egg Bomb. As it looks like Exeggutor is about to deliver the finishing blow, Ash quickly orders Bulbasaur to use Sleep Powder, which successfully puts Exeggutor to sleep, as well as cause it to fall off the cliff, knocking Team Rocket back down into the sea below. Bulbasaur rescues Exeggutor with its Vine Whip, and the second victory goes to Ash.

Now, in the third and final round, Water Pokémon will be used, so Ash sends out Squirtle, and Rudy sends out Starmie, as well as dedicate the final victory to Misty. Squirtle and Starmie both attack each other with Water Guns, and Rudy quickly plays some more music, causing Starmie to Rapid Spin so much, it uses a Thunderbolt attack to knock Squirtle into submission, leaving Ash horrified. After thinking over the chance of a lifetime from Rudy, Misty finally makes her choice: she yells at Ash to win since he can release Squirtle's hidden power. Mahri is shocked, while Rudy loses his confidence after hearing Misty's words. Ash orders Squirtle to fight back. Squirtle escapes the Thunderbolt with another Water Gun, Withdraws inside its shell as it's about to fall off the cliff, then Hydro Pump to fly back onto the battlefield. Misty realizes that Squirtle has now learned Hydro Pump! Squirtle uses its new attack and a Skull Bash to defeat Starmie, giving the final victory to Ash, who celebrates by dancing with Squirtle and Pikachu about how they need one more badge to get into the Orange League.

As the sun sets, Ash receives his Spike Shell from Rudy, who also offers Misty one more bunch of flowers. Rudy is now convinced that Misty wants Ash, who doesn't seem to have a clue about it. And so, Ash, Misty, Tracey, Pikachu, and Togepi board Lapras and sail off into the sunset.

Trivia
* PM-103 was the name of the ferry that carried Ash and co. to Trovita Island. The initials appear to stand for Pocket Monsters and the number corresponds with the episode number.
* The mystery Pokémon in Tracey's sketch that he was showing to Prof. Oak is Elekid. Tracey asks if it could be a new Pokémon and Prof. Oak laughingly disagrees. This was meant to be ironic because the viewers knew that Prof. Oak's observation was incorrect. That is because by the time this episode first aired, most people already knew Elekid was a new Pokémon because it was featured in the movie short Pikachu's Rescue Adventure. Rudy uses an Electabuzz during his battle against Ash (However, it was hinted in the previous episode's Oak lecture that Oak might have known about its existence, since he referred to it in the lecture about Pikachu's Rescue Adventure.)
* The song used by Rudy to train his Pokémon is Pokémon (Dance Mix) (English dub only).
*Professor Oak's lecture: The Power of One. Oak talks a little about the movie. He introduces Lawrence III, and then talks about the tablet (the one containing the legend). However he says he cannot read the tablet, and he then tells viewers to watch the movie.
*The book The Four Star Challenge is based on this episode.

Errors
* Rudy says that Ash must knock down all the targets during the attack test in order to battle him, but even though Charizard fails to hit a target, Ash still passes the test.
:*This may have been because Rudy was paying more attention to Misty rather than Ash's test.
* When Rudy's Starmie is knocked out, the point that droops down to symbolize its loss of power is colored gold like its middle part rather than purple.
* After Meowth sneezes and knocks Team Rocket's submarine into the water, they start spinning around and Jessie's boot isn't colored in.

Dub edits
* Charizard Chills!, Pokémon Water War, and Pokémon Food Fight were all aired before this episode in the U.S. This caused mass confusion to many American fans. The main one being is to why in the episode before, The Mystery Menace, the group was so close to arriving to Trovita Island and then, all of a sudden, Ash has his badge and is heading off somewhere else without the episode in which he fought the Trovita Island Gym Leader. However once the saga came out on DVD, they were put in the correct order.
Conway (Japanese: コウヘイ Kōhei) is a minor recurring character from the anime. His first appearance was in Tag! We're It! as Dawn's tag-team partner.

Conway was shown to be a very smart trainer. His strategies played an important role in helping Dawn and him to advance to the finals of the Hearthome City Tag Battle Competition. Conway appears again in Camping It Up! through One Team, Two Team, Red Team, Blue Team! during a four-episode arc at a summer school. During this arc he demonstrates his knowledge about Pokémon as well as an attraction towards Dawn. At one point during the One Team, Two Team, Red Team, Blue Team! he switches his attraction to Jessie instead.

Conway uses very effective strategies, but doesn't improvise much, something that has led to losses several times for him. Examples include using Confusion to redirect an attack, using Protect while another Pokémon attacks, and so on.
Synopsis
Incomplete synopsis
On the road to Goldenrod City, Ash and friends decide to take a break at a nearby lake and relax with their Pokémon. Unfortunately their fun quickly ends when Team Rocket suddenly appears and tries to steal all of their Pokémon. Team Rocket's plan is foiled when a group of disgruntled Ursaring appears and attacks them and everybody soon finds themselves running for their lives. In the confusion Jessie and Misty wind up switching places. Jessie finds herself stuck with Ash, Brock, and Pikachu, while Misty is stranded with James and MTR. After forming a temporary truce the two groups begin to search the forest for their lost comrades, dodging Ursaring the entire time.

Along the way Jessie and Misty get a first hand look at how their rival team operates. Jessie is impressed by the kindness the "twerps" show her and reminisces about her dreams before she joined Team Rocket, while James and Meowth find that they've merely swapped one bossy red head for another one. When the two groups are finally reunited they are forced to work together in order to finally escape the Ursaring for good. Back together, they dissolve the truce and begin fighting again, with Team Rocket predictably "blasting off again". Afterwards, Ash notices a sign that explained why the Ursaring attacked everwhere they saw one. It read, "WARNING! It is currently the Ursaring mating season and they are using this area as their breeding grounds. Do not disturb them if it's the last thing you do, cuz if you do, it just may be."

Synopsis
Jessie, James and MTR of the sinister Team Rocket have once again failed at stealing Pikachu from Ash. After being blasted off by Pikachu's Thunderbolt, the trio gets into an argument. They then come to an agreement and decide to go their separate ways.

Meanwhile, Ash and company are heading for Pewter City. As they pass through Sable City, they notice a one-day only Pokémon Tournament being held in the town. Thinking about his upcoming battle with Pyramid King Brandon, Ash decides to enter the tournament. However, what they don't know is that the tournament is a plan concocted by Butch and Cassidy to steal Pokémon. While Butch convinces the Trainers to sign up, Cassidy is disguised as Nurse Joy.

Ash's first battle is against a Pokémon Trainer named Howie. Ash sends out his Corphish to battle Howie's Pinsir. Howie has Pinsir start off with a ViceGrip, but Corphish quickly counters the attack. Ash tells Corphish to use Crabhammer, but Howie has Pinsir counter with Guillotine. Outside the arena, Jessie, James and Meowth enter the building. Jessie notices the tournament is happening and decides to steal the Pokémon. James and Mime Jr. come across the building and get the same reaction Jessie had. Meowth also comes up, and decides to see what it's about, not interested in stealing Pokémon.

Back inside the arena, Pinsir knocks Corphish hard with Seismic Toss, and is about to administer the finishing blow with Guillotine, but Ash tells Corphish to use Harden and a Crabhammer to finish it off. This move allows Ash and Corphish to win the first battle.

Meanwhile, James and Mime Jr. are wandering around the arena. They encounter Jessie, and both of them look away from each other in disgust. Later, they meet up with Cassidy, who is still dressed up as Nurse Joy. She tells the Rocket trio about the plan she and Butch have. She also reveals that she and Butch have been invited to surprise parties for Giovanni and Dr. Namba. Cassidy convinces James to help her out with the plan.

Continuing with the battles, Ash and Corphish face off against another Trainer and his Marowak. Corphish is about to hit Marowak with Crabhammer, but Marowak counters with its thick bone. Marowak uses Bonemerang. Corphish ducks, but the attack comes back and hits the Pokémon.

In one of the hallways of the arena, Butch is busy carrying a bag full of stolen Poké Balls until he encounters Jessie. Jessie then notices the Poké Ball haul Cassidy told her about and starts to sweet-talk Butch.

Back with the battles, Ash has Corphish use ViceGrip, but Marowak counters and is about to nail Corphish with Bone Club. Corphish counters and is about to use Crabhammer.

While in the hallways of the arena, a sad Meowth is thinking about Jessie and James and how much he misses them. He finds a bag of biscuits lying on the ground. He then begins to reminisce about all the times he, Jessie and James had a single bite of food and how they would always split the food into three pieces, whether it was bread, a hunk of cheese, one and a half crackers and even a rice cake.

Meanwhile, Munchlax has run off after one of the battles. Max gets Munchlax under control and peeks into the room where Cassidy and Butch kept the stolen Poké Balls. James and Cassidy are putting the Poké Balls in several boxes. Max then realizes Team Rocket's evil plan, and is shocked to discover James's alignment with Butch and Cassidy. Max heads back to the stadium to tell Ash.

Back with the battles, Corphish has just knocked out Marowak with Crabhammer. Ash and Corphish are celebrating another victory until Max interrupts them. He tells them about Team Rocket's evil plan to steal the Trainers' Poké Balls. Ash and friends then head to the room to confront James and Cassidy. While confronting James and Cassidy, James and Cassidy say the Team Rocket motto, but Cassidy goofs up the finishing line. Then, Cassidy calls out her Houndour. Ash tells Corphish to use BubbleBeam and follow it up with ViceGrip. Before Corphish can hit Houndour, the Dark Pokémon uses Flamethrower. Corphish slams into one of the boxes where Team Rocket has kept the stolen Poké Balls. Tons of Poké Balls spill out of the boxes and flood the floors of the stadium.

Ash tells the Trainers about what Team Rocket is up to and tells them to get their Poké Balls back. The tournament officials tear off their disguises, revealing themselves to be a horde of Team Rocket Grunts. The Rocket Grunts bring their Pokémon forth, as do the other Trainers, not willing to give up their Pokémon without a fight.

Ash and the other Trainers are furious with Team Rocket wanting to steal the memories they've stored in the Poké Balls and Ash has Pikachu use Thunderbolt. As the battle continues, Jessie and Butch are about to leave with a box full of stolen Poké Balls, but they are noticed by Ash, who has Swellow tackle them. After being caught, Jessie and Butch recite the Team Rocket motto, but Butch goofs it up. Butch, after being annoyed by Ash calling him "Paunch", sends out Raticate. Pikachu uses Thunderbolt on Jessie, Butch and Raticate, sending them flying.

Elsewhere in the arena, Meowth is collecting some Poké Balls. James and Mime Jr. and Jessie are doing the same. When all three Rockets grab the same Poké Ball, another argument ensues, but Meowth stops the argument by showing them the biscuit he found earlier. This reminds Jessie and James of their friendship. All three Rockets are about to split the biscuit apart. Before they could eat it, a Trainer with his Rhydon sends Jessie, James and Meowth flying. After this happens, the Rocket Grunts flee the building.

Back inside, Ash and his friends are cleaning up the mess of Poké Balls, until they notice Cassidy and Butch escaping with the box. As they chase Cassidy and Butch, the Rocket Duo falls into a hole. They get out and continue to run. Before they can board their helicopter, they fall into another hole, along with the helicopter. Ash tells Pikachu to use Thunderbolt and Cassidy and Butch are sent flying.

Jessie, James and Meowth are floating in their Meowth Balloon, carrying shovels. It turns out they were the ones who dug up the holes which almost stopped Cassidy and Butch. Jessie, James and Meowth, after reciting their motto, are about to make their getaway with the Poké Balls, until Corphish pops open a hole with it BubbleBeam attack, sending Team Rocket blasting off again.

Back at the stadium, Ash and co. watch as the Trainers reclaim their Poké Balls. While in the woods, Jessie, James and Meowth are about to share a biscuit in a campfire. Jessie gets the biggest piece. This angers her two friends, and they fight over the size of the biscuit.

RocketShipping (Japanese: コジムサ KojiMusa) is the theory, belief, or hope that Jessie and James of Team Rocket are or will become romantically involved in the anime. It is also known as JAJL, or Jessie and James Love.

History of RocketShipping
The term "RocketShipping" was the first time the suffix "Shipping" had been applied to any couple outside of the X-Files fandom where it originated. Maria Rocket and other fans on the message board of TRHQ applied the term to Jessie and James. Other names for the pairing were coined later.

The RocketShipping fandom has seen some changes over the years. In the beginning, there was only one kind of RocketShipper—the one who thought that Jessie and James were attracted to each other. Some fans hoped they would eventually become a full-fledged couple. The situation grew more intense when a member of TRHQ came across an untranslated graphic novel in a bookstore.

Upon first glance, it appeared to be simply the last volume of Toshihiro Ono's Electric Tale of Pikachu manga, which was in the process of being released in the United States. However, inside the book was something that changed the face of the fandom. Inside the epilogue were two important scenes: one was James confessing his love to Jessie; the other was a full-page illustration in which Jessie and James were married and Jessie visibly pregnant. Most importantly of all, this was all official and approved by Nintendo.

The RocketShipping fan community went crazy. It finally had officially sanctioned proof that Jessie and James were a romantic couple. Some believed that it was only a matter of time before something similar happened in the TV anime series.

Eventually, the famous manga was translated and released in the United States, and RocketShippers rejoiced now that they could hold the evidence in their own hands. Around the same time, a website named Pokemopolis was getting attention for rebutting the "evidence" found in the manga. Pokemopolis became and has remained the most prominent anti-Rocketshipping site in Pokemon fandom, as well as the main proponent of the theory that James is gay.

Around the same time, the number and frequency of the Rocketshippy hints on the anime decreased, along with other changes in characterization. As a result, the RocketShipping fan community split into several sects, each with different takes on Rocketshipping.

Nowadays, thanks to the episode Noodles! Roamin' Off!, Rocketshipping has had a resurgence in popularity, and Rocketshippers feel more confident about their ship than ever.

Sects of RocketShipping
These sects were in use to differentiate between various "types" of RocketShipper who each had a different perception of the ship. It should be noted, however, that they have not actively been in use in the fandom since the Advanced Generation of the anime started airing in America.

RocketShippers
This is the general term for anyone who supports the idea of Jessie and James being a couple, whether past, present, or future. It is was also a term for a sect consisting of people who believe that Jessie and James are currently not in love but believed that they eventually would be.

R*cketShippers
This was a more extreme type of RocketShipper, who believed that Jessie and James are currently attracted to each other. They fervently denied that James is anything but heterosexual.

QueerShippers
Self-proclaimed "in-character RocketShipping". Supporters generally believed that James plays the role of a woman and Jessie plays the role of a man, but that they would become a couple nevertheless.

WrongRocketShippers
Smaller sect which believed that Jessie and James are currently in a "friends with benefits" type relationship. They didn't necessarily believe that they are in love with each other, but did believe that they have some kind of secret physical relationship going on. They took a more relaxed and joking stance to the Ship.

AntiRocketShippers
Supporters denied any sort of romantic relationship between Jessie and James. They liked to see them as best friends, but nothing more. In most cases, they believed that James is undeniably gay, based on the more camp portrayal of James by Eric Stuart and James' crossdressing. Opinions on Jessie's sexuality varied.

Evidence
The following is a list of points that point to a potential relationship between James and Jessie.
Anime evidence
Jessie's hints
* A Farfetch'd Tale
: Jessie blushes and looks at James adoringly when he is doing well in battle against Ash and company.
* Spinarak Attack
: After James managed to break into the storeroom, Jessie started to flirt with him and appreciate his skills as she nudged him with her arm.
* Training Daze!
: When James lets go of Meowth's tail and drops into the river, Jessie screams for him.
: Despite having had twelve previous partners and managing to abandon them all without regret, when James is in the hospital and cannot join her for the final task, Jessie almost gives up. She then blushes when James accidentally falls on top of her.
* Exploud and Clear!
: Jessie blushes after James plugs the holes in Guy's Exploud.
* Sweet Baby James
: Jessie looked annoyed when James freaked out at the idea of being married to her.
* Reversing the Charges
: When blasting off, James says that no matter how times this happens, he's fine as long as he's with with his James This causes Jessie to turn and look at him very annoyed.
* The Ole' Berate and Switch
: After Jessie, James, and Meowth decide to split up, Cassidy convinces James to join her. Jessie sees her drag him away and kicks a fire extinguisher in anger.
* Throwing the Track Switch
: Jessie tries to cheer James up by stealing Buizel for him (and Dawn for herself). When she sees how happy this has made him she smiles and holds his hands.
* Noodles: Roamin' Off
: Once Jessie learns about James being in danger, she immediately rushes to look for him. She saves him by attacking Metagross with her Seviper and Yanmega, but then, she finds herself in danger as well, as she was nearly killed by Metagross along with James. When James apologized for getting her into this mess, she smiled and said that that's what friends were for.

James' hints
In the Diamond & Pearl when James watches Jessie participate in events under an assumed name, he keeps forgetting to call her by her fake name, and instead calls her Jessie before correcting himself. This could be taken as meaning he cares more about watching her participate than the current plan Team Rocket is up to. As of the latest episode in Japan, no one has noticed James make this slip up.
Also in the Diamond and Pearl series, he has stated on occasion how proud of her he is. It should be noted that Jessie has not been around when he has said this, and that the dub has not kept these lines.
* Pokémon Shipwreck
: When it looked like Jessie and James were going to die, James says to Jessie "Someone, who said that beautiful people are destined to have a sad fate, must have meant us." implying that he thinks Jessie is beautiful.
* The Ultimate Test
: After Jessie is expelled from the test, James says in a determined voice that he'll do his best for her.
* The Legend of Dratini
: When Kaiser starts shooting at Team Rocket, James smiles and tells Jessie to trust him, then grabs her by the waist and jumps off the roof to what he believed to be to safety. After they land, their parachute falls on top of them and they scramble to get out of it. During this, Jessie says "Where do you think you're touching?!" implying that James is doing more than simply trying to get out of the parachute.
* Princess vs. Princess
: After losing to Misty in the Princess Festival Contest, James hold Jessie's hands and tries to cheer her up by giving her a Team Rocket version of the doll set she wanted.
: James dresses himself and their Pokémon as Hina Matsuri dolls to cheer Jessie up after her loss.
* Snack Attack
: James blushes after Jessie compliments him on having a good memory.
* Good 'Quil Hunting
: Jessie is feeling down and James holds her hands and tells her things to cheer her up. They also hug.
* Pace - The Final Frontier
: As Regirock and Registeel use Lock-On attack to aim at Team Rocket, James immediately carries Jessie and tries to escape the dungeons, wanting to rescue her.
* Noodles! Roamin' Off!
: When Jessie left to pursue a career in Contests, James was visibly hurt and wondered how strong their bond really was. He then ran off and cried. Later in the episode after Jessie saved him, James got on his knees and cried because he was happy she came back.
* Old Rivals, New Tricks
: Up until this episode, James has never liked Jessie using his Pokémon in Contests, mostly due to her mistreatment of James. He now has no problem with it (most likely due to the fact Jessie has treated all his Pokemon very well since, and she is doing well in them) and even told James that's he counting on it and Jessie's third ribbon depends on it.
* DP146
: When a sick Jessie overexerts herself and begins to faint, James catches her, helps her stand up, and supports her weight as he walks her back to bed, all the while having a comforting smile on his face. When Meowth says Jessie should rest, James agrees, saying with a caring tone of voice that "That would be best." Later, James disguises himself as Jessalina and enters his first contest in her place. He ends up winning the ribbon, and when Jessie sees the ribbon she hugs only James.

Shared hints
Jessie and James have a tendency to hug or hold onto each other when they are scared (dubbed "fearhugs" by RocketShippers) or happy. Jessie and James also don't have a problem with physical contact such as sleeping on parts of the other's body or holding each other in ways that people who were simply friends normally wouldn't.

* Pokémon Shipwreck
: James wants the others to leave him behind, but Jessie tells him they'll go across together. James looks touched. They hug and say how they'll never forget each other.
* The Ghost of Maiden's Peak
: When the ghost is dragging James away and he cries that he doesn't want to be separated from her, Jessie pulls out a bazooka and shoots the ghost. When James smiles at her with watery eyes and says her name adoringly, she says, "Don't get the wrong idea!" and attempts to hide the fact that she did it for his sake.
* The Ninja Poké-Showdown
: This is more of a hint from the writers/animators, but Jessie, while holding a rose, says that beautiful things can be painful. She then throws the rose at James, who catches it and pricks his thumb on a thorn. Immediately afterwards, Jessie hits him with her binoculars, putting James in even more pain.
* Holy Matrimony!
: At the end of the episode, Jessie is upset that James might have left to marry his fiance and inherit his money, but then he appears in their Meowth balloon and picks her up. James goes on to tell her he'd rather have his freedom with Team Rocket rather than money. They then smile and stare into each others eyes. They completely forget to pick up MTR.
* Who Gets to Keep Togepi?
: This episode gave the first evidence of Jessie and James sleeping next to each other.
* Training Daze!
: In spite of being severely injured, James comes back to join their mission, to Jessie's shock. He assures her that he won't run away this time. She gets touched by his act and wipes away her tears.
: Then, when James wanted to let go of Meowth's tail again, telling Jessie and Meowth to continue the test without him so they can become a good team, and Jessie refused to leave him behind, he let go nevertheless. However, that time, she made in time to grab onto his hand. When he told her to let him go and she refused again, he looked visibly touched.
* The Bicker the Better
: When Oscar and Andi assume Jessie and James are a couple, James looks confused and Jessie just ignores it. Since they didn't get upset at it like Ash and May did, it could be interpreted that neither has a problem with the idea. Later in the episode James was teasing Jessie about being ugly in a joking way, and Jessie smiled and covered her ears and pretended not to hear it. Since Jessie is obsessed with her appearance, her lack of getting mad about it and the joking way James did it might be interptied as flirting. At the end of the episode when Jessie and James made up, they linked arms and smiled at each other.
* Hail to the Chef
: Jessie and James were seen asleep on a bed with the covers partly over them. Jessie was sleeping on top of James.
* Noodles! Roamin' Off!
: When a shiny2 Metagross was about to kill Jessie and James, James smiled sweetly at Jessie and said that life wasn't a waste because he spent it with good friends. Jessie agreed and said that if there were another world after they die, they'd meet again there. James agreed to that, smiled, and no longer looked afraid.
* Uncrushing Defeat!
: One image from their motto shows Jessie and James on a set of scales with a pink heart symbol on it, seemingly at balance despite it swinging slightly.

Movie evidence
Jessie's hints
* Jirachi: Wish Maker
: At the end of the movie Jessie and James are holding onto each other and talking about how they don't care about wishes anymore and are just happy to be alive. They smile and Jessie says she's fine just doing this.

James' hints
: After the leukocytes gets Jessie, James uses his James to try and rescue Jessie. He gets out of the way when it tries to hug him showing how serious he is taking this. After he fails to rescue Jessie they both cry out to each other and she is dragged down. James stands there speechless, visibly heart broken, and then gets engulfed as well.
* Unlike other popular shippings, RocketShipping has no main rival ship. Many Rocketshippers use this as evidence that the writers are leaning toward this ship becoming canon one day.
* Jessie and James have a ramen shop named after them.
* Jessie and James have had voice actors with prominent roles in the Slayers anime series. Jessie's seiyuu, Megumi Hayashibara, is also seiyuu to the main protagonist and heroine of Slayers, Lina Inverse, while James's most famous English voice actor, Eric Stuart, dubbed the voice for Lina's self-proclaimed guardian and constant traveling companion, Gourry Gabriev. Incidentally, the two characters fell in love with each other over time.

Similarities
* Jessie and James have both owned Poison Pokémon until the Advanced Generation.
* They both have a similar style of fashion and always coordinate their outfits. They have also donned various disguises pretending to be a couple, most notably as a couple getting married, as Volbeat and Illumise, and wearing outfits similar to the ones Oscar and Andi wore, which may be a reference to the the manga The Rose of Versailles.
* Jessie and James frequently use each other's Pokémon. Their Pokémon have rarely ever had a problem with this, and sometimes are happy about it.
* James' Grass Pokémon have occasionally "attacked" Jessie the same way they do James. Since James' Pokémon do it out of affection, some Rocketshippers use this, among other things, to show that Jessie and James have a close relationship.

PokéShipping (Japanese: サトカス SatoKasu) is one of many names given to the couple of Ash and Misty, supported by many fans of the Pokémon anime. In the early years, PokéShipping was the most popular Ship in the fandom; it still maintains a strong following to this day.
spoilers
Anime evidence
In the beginning, Pikachu "fried" Misty's bike, and she then held Ash responsible. Misty began to follow Ash to make sure he would pay off his debt to her. They bickered constantly, but, needless to say, their friendship grew stronger as the series progressed. They relied on each other not only for friendship, but for support as well.

Misty's hints
Most other Shippers tend to agree that Misty's love for Ash is undeniable. This evidence became most prevalent during the Orange Season, long before it became occasional to set upon Ash a girl who becomes infatuated with him.

* Ash Catches a Pokémon
: Ash, willing to continue his journey alone, is followed by Misty. Upon noticing her pursuing him in Viridian Forest, Ash puts her on the spot and asks her, "Why are you still following me?" Misty sweatdrops and unconvincingly stutters back, "M...My bike! I'm holding you responsible for my bike!" in an insincere manner.

: Why she is following him is made apparent near the end of the episode where she says, "I've never known anyone like him. He really does love Pokémon." She does so in body language befitting that of an infatuated girl. Also, in her statement, it is pretty much implied that she has some sort of interest in knowing Ash, who, at this point, is someone she barely knows. Furthermore, in this and the next episode, Misty seems very eager to make physical (if not courtly) contact with Ash.

*The Water Flowers of Cerulean City
: Misty tells Daisy that she's back home because of Ash. The remark makes Daisy think Ash and Misty are a couple, which causes Misty to blush.

*The School of Hard Knocks
: While Ash and Brock fall into infatuation with Giselle, Misty gets mad. Some say that she was jealous because of Ash, others say that was because of GymShipping.

*The Tower of Terror
: At the beginning of the episode, Ash, Brock and Misty are walking through the mist on their way to Lavender Town and Brock says they should probably hold hands. Ash and Misty eagerly reply, "Okay!" The two of them hold hands and continue walking, but Brock, who came up with the idea mistook Pikachu's tail for Ash's hand; Only Ash and Misty are holding hands. Also, when Brock grabs Pikachu's tail because he can't see through the mist, Pikachu fires an electric attack out of fear and Misty grabs onto Ash.

:Later, when Misty thought that Ash had died, she is driven to almost tears, but is interrupted by Ash who comes back to life and wipes her nose and blushes.

* Volcano Panic
: One of the clearest examples to fans of Misty's growing feelings towards Ash in the Indigo League, would be at the fact that she completely forgot about her bike being destroyed by Ash, being the supposed only reason for her traveling with him.

* Poké Ball Peril
: Near the end of the episode, with Brock having left Ash and Misty to travel alone, James says, "I think we may have captured a pair of romantic creatures in our little cage," after which Jessie swoons and MTR blurts out, "They're lovebirds!" Ash and Misty deny it all.

: The idea of Ash and Misty as a couple becomes a sub-theme throughout the subsequent Orange League Season, culminating into events in the 2nd movie.

* Navel Maneuvers
: Danny, the Navel Island Gym Leader, quickly picks up on the nature of Ash and Misty's relationship during one of their arguments and says, "I can see the two of you are pretty close." After Misty asks what he meant by that, he replied, "What's that saying? 'You always hurt the one you love..."

* Wherefore Art Thou, Pokémon
: After the Ralph's Nidoran♂ and Emily's Nidoran♀ kiss and evolve, Tracey comments about whether the battle or the kiss made them evolve. The idea of kissing embarrasses Misty and provokes Ash to ask the question, "Do people change when they get kissed?" after which Misty answers to him, "Guess we'll have to find out ourselves..." Earlier in the episode, Tracey compared the interaction between the Nidoran's trainers to the relationship between Misty and Ash (although both vehemently deny it).

*Get Along, Little Pokémon!
: Misty yells, "Be careful, Ash!" before he goes to save the Magnemite. Misty has done this on many occasions.

* Misty Meets Her Match
: This entire episode alone serves as conclusive evidence that Misty not only likes Ash but possibly has developed a case of young love for him. Rudy, the Trovita Island Gym Leader, has a case of "love at first sight" with Misty after she saves his sister, Mahri. After several advances from Rudy, Misty agrees to what is essentially an impromptu date with Rudy, leaving Ash and Tracey to themselves.

: According to accounts of the original Japanese version, during the dance after the date, Rudy not only asked Misty to stay on the island, but to marry him. What is significant here is that Misty was actually considering his proposal, evidenced by the fact that she didn't refuse him outright. Throughout Ash's gym battle with Rudy, Misty is clearly torn between deciding which boy meant more to her, finally rooting for Ash in the end as Squirtle is hit by a Thunderbolt from Rudy's Starmie. Rudy, in shock mutters, "She wants him."

*The Stun Spore Detour
:Every time that Tracey and Ash need attention Misty comes to Ash first or expresses more concern for Ash.

*Snubbull Snobbery
: Misty finds a star map, and Ash says, "I know where the stars are, Misty." Misty giggles and blushes after that remark.

*A Better Pill To Swallow
: When Old Man Shuckle gives Ash his medicine and the medicine explodes in Ash's stomach, Misty asks Old Man Shuckle what he gave Ash. He reveals that it was Pokémon medicine, and Misty gets really angry. She calms once Ash wakes up and says, "You know what? My stomach-ache is all gone!"

* The Light Fantastic
: When Misty introduces Ash to Nurse Joy, Joy quickly exclaims, "What a little cutie!" referring to Pikachu on Ash's head. But Misty and Brock mistakenly think she's referring to Ash. Brock is left completely shocked, but Misty not only gets shocked, but quickly develops the same jealous expression she displayed when Melody flirted with Ash.

* Spring Fever
:On this and many other occasions in the series, when Ash falls into Team Rocket's trap Misty (off camera) runs toward Ash and passionately grabs his arm to get him back to safety.

* The Heartbreak of Brock
: After Temacu expresses her thoughts about marriage to Brock, Misty says to Ash, "You and I will be married someday too." And Ash nods his head without realizing what she had just said, and then shouts "WHOOA?" She could have easily meant that they would be married someday to different people, not necessarily to each other, but when Ash yelled out in shock Misty looked over at him with a shocked face that looked like she didn't mean to say that out loud. However, this is a dub edit. In the original, Misty said, "Looks like she fell for Takeshi in first sight."

: While giving a pep talk to Brock about pursuing a possible relationship with Temacu, Misty says, "Take it from me, it's a lot easier to like someone who likes you than to like someone who doesn't." Brock then asks her, "How do you know?", after which Misty gasps, blushes, then coyly replies "Well that's...what I've heard..." She is not referring to Brock (much to the dismay of GymShipping), since she is openly encouraging Brock to pursue Temacu.

* Love, Pokémon Style
: When Macy first invites Ash out to lunch, Misty quickly cuts in between the two and comments that Ash is "booked". Later in the same scene, Macy questions Misty's right to interrupt in Ash's personal affairs when she's not his girlfriend. Misty looks quite unimpressed as Macy continues to flirt with Ash.

* Gotta Catch Ya Later
: The departure of Misty from the group is a very emotional affair. After all is said and done, Misty says to herself, "Well, Ash Ketchum, finally, I know how you feel about me".
:In this episode, Misty gives Ash her handkerchief. Apparently, in Japan that means that a girl cares for a boy. <!-- Needs a reference. -->
:Misty got her own good-bye song (which completely left Brock out). Ash was pretty clueless about how upset Misty was when they found out she had to leave, but when they actually parted, he did say that she’s his best friend, and cried when they left.

* A Date With Delcatty
: In the original version, Misty initially rejects Georgio because there is "someone else". Taking into account of Misty's evident feelings in the series prior to this episode, it can be inferred that Misty is making a reference to Ash.

* Pokémon Live
: In this show, Misty yearns to tell her feelings for Ash, but is too afraid to tell him.

Various songs
* Misty's Song is a song from the Pokémon 2.B.A. Master soundtrack in which Misty sings that she loves Ash. She also says that she wants confess her love to Ash. This one of the strongest pieces of evidence for PokéShipping. Part of the song was played in the episode For Crying Out Loud, although the canonization of the song is disputed.
**Ash does not have a song for Misty.
* On the Pokémon Christmas Bash CD there are two songs that show strong evidence of her feelings towards Ash.
**The first song on the CD entitled Pokémon Christmas Bash has the three main characters along with Team Rocket singing about what they want for Christmas. In Misty's stanza she sings "Hey Santa if you're really listenin' / My wishlist has only one thing / Just gimme one dance with Ash / At the Pokémon Christmas bash!".
**Another song on the CD called Under the Mistletoe has Misty singing about how she wants Ash to know her feeling for him and about how she wants to meet Ash under the mistletoe. On the other hand, Ash is singing about how he hopes to not to be caught under the mistletoe, although at first he doesn't move away- many fans claim this is shipping from Ash's side. Near the song's end, after leaving Ash feeling paranoid about the mistletoe, Misty has got Ash under the mistletoe. Ash realizes this, freaks out, and runs off to eat more cookies while leaving Misty wondering what his problem is.
* Toi et Moi, the Japanese ending song of The Power of One, references PokéShipping several times, all from Misty's perspective; in particular, the reference to saving the one she loves from drowning (as in the movie.)
* He Drives Me Crazy is a song from Totally Pokémon and Pokemon 3: The Ultimate Soundtrack that is sung from Misty's perspective, although it was not sung by Rachael Lillis. This song highlights the feelings that Misty has but does not understand. Many PokéShippers regard this song as having undeniable proof of Misty's feelings for Ash.

Ash's hints
Even PokéShippers will admit that Ash has not shown any overt proof of liking Misty beyond the already established platonic feelings. This reality often provokes Shippers opposed to PokéShipping—namely PalletShippers—to question Ash's sexual orientation, as well.

Naturally, PokéShippers believe Ash is heterosexual, and that he is capable of liking Misty. Furthermore, the theory also extends to the possible belief that Ash does love Misty, but is not mature enough to realize it. This idea is supported by the fact that Ash tends to act somewhat jealous when another guy shows interest in Misty or vice-versa, and the flirtatious tone of some of their teasing. This theory explains their bickering (to cover up how they really feel about each other) and it can be argued that Ash displays real feelings for Misty when she is vulnerable or scared.

* Beauty and the Beach
: When Misty shows up, holding a beach ball along with her bathing suit on, Ash comments on how Misty looks like a girl for once. Later, when Moe yells at the group, Ash quickly hides behind Misty and holds her by the shoulders.

* Ghost of Maiden's Peak
: Ash does a double take when Misty appears with her hair down and dressed in a formal kimono. Upon seeing her, the camera switches to his perspective, the bubbly background usually associated with passionate moments is used, romantic harp strings are played, and Misty's surprised facial expression clearly shows she is being looked at with interest. Also, the entire theme of the episode was romance-oriented, so it's only logical to assume this scene between Ash and Misty is as well.

*Pokémon Fashion Flash
: When Misty goes missing, Ash expresses extreme concern.

* Princess vs. Princess
: Ash, thinking Misty is entering the Princess Festival Contest to take a picture with the movie star host, gets a little jealous, groaning with his arms crossed, "You must really want that picture with Fiorello...". Surprisingly, Misty reassures him she's only doing it for the doll set. Ash, whether he's aware of it or not, feels threatened by the presence of another male in Misty's life. Also, when Misty was dressed in a kimono during the contest, Ash stared at her and said, "Ohhh...", but so did Brock.

* Navel Maneuvers
: Climbing Navel Island's central mountain, Misty tells Danny the gym leader to be extra careful. Seeing how much concern Misty is giving to Danny, Ash with the same jealous expression yells, "What's she so worried about him for?!". He's distracted so much by Misty's little crush on Danny that he loses his concentration and falls down the mountain a bit. Much like his behavior in "Princess vs. Princess", another male getting Misty's attention seems to bother him. When Danny states, "What do they say, you always hurt the one you love?" Misty and Ash become extremely embarrassed. As Danny walks off, Misty runs up to him and says, "Oh, you've got it all wrong. I'd never get involved with a little kid like him. I prefer the more mature, intellectual type." Ash seems very disappointed after hearing that.

*Get Along Little Pokémon
: As the rain storm approaches and as Misty is unable to walk, Ash grabs Misty by the hand, arm and the rest of her body and leads her towards the cave. Afterwords, he stares at her with care in his eyes.

*Misty Meets Her Match
: Rudy moves in to court Misty after she helps rescue his younger sister, Mahri. Ash is clearly put out by Rudy's behavior, and jealous when Misty is flattered by the attention. When Rudy compliments Misty about her beautiful eyes during his attack test, Ash gets distracted and accidentally calls Charizard. Rudy invites Misty to dinner, and Ash is shocked when she accepts and appears unhappy when she leaves. Later on, during the battle against Ash, Rudy looks at Misty and says "I dedicate this match the girl who saved my sister and stole my heart." Ash doesn't seem very happy and sarcastically replies, "That's real nice, but the victory is gonna be mine!" He gets a little antagonized with Misty when she tells him to beat Rudy, telling her he's not stupid, as if her recent behavior had upset and unsettled him.

: After Rudy presents Ash with his badge, he gives Misty some flowers, accepting her decision to stay with Ash. More importantly, he says, "I hope you know you're a very lucky guy, Ash." Ash cluelessly replies, "Lucky? What do you mean?" Rudy laughs and says, "You'll see some day." Ash just frowns in confusion. This incident supports the theory that Ash loves Misty, but he doesn't quite realize it yet. This is one of the stronger hints given that Misty and Ash may someday end up together.

*Illusion Confusion
: Ash expresses his horror when Misty is scared by illusions of Bug Pokemon, and gets angry with Hoothoot for running away, because it is the only one who can 'save Misty.'

*For Crying Out Loud
:When Misty, Pikachu, and Wilhelmina's Marill are lost on an island and the others go to find them, Ash mutters, "Don't worry, we'll find Misty," not even mentioning Marill or his beloved Pikachu.

* Dueling Heroes
: Prior to Misty's battle, Ash wakes up to find Misty staring out the window. They have a little talk and after that, Ash continues to gaze at Misty silently.
: Brock comments about how Misty's battling style reminds him so much of Ash. Furthermore, Ash and Misty share similar victory poses when they win their round.

* The Princess and the Togepi
: Upon showing Ash the invitation to the Togepi Festival, Ash gets excited and walks off happily. But Misty quickly pulls him back by the hood. Later on, when Misty gets abducted by Team Rocket, Ash is the first one to run after her.

: Ash (and also Brock) defends Misty from Colonel Hansen and his Pokémon. He then tells Misty to run away for hers and Togepi's safety.

*The Right Place and the Right Mime
: When Max informs everyone that the nearest Battle Frontier facility is near Cerulean City, Ash is pleased that Misty is able to travel with him and the group for a while.

*A Real Cleffa-hanger
: May tries to befriend a Cleffa, but the Pokémon backs away from her in fright. Misty figures that it will talk to Azurill, and then Azurill jumps off her arms and starts playing with the Cleffa. Ash tells Misty how great her idea was.

: When the Ash and the gang looks for Misty, Max, and Pikachu, Ash is the one carrying Misty's Spheal bag.

*The Unbeatable Lightness of Seeing
:Ash is feeling down about losing but regains his confidence back when he receives gifts from his mother and his friends. He especially shows off Misty's special lure to Pikachu with a big smile on his face.

* Buizel Your Way Out of This
: When Ash and the others are fishing, Ash uses the special lure Misty made for him. Dawn asks if she could use it, but Ash refuses, causing them both to argue. While they are distracted, a Buizel comes and takes their lures, causing Ash to panic. He is determined to get the lure back, and once it is returned, he seems very happy and relieved.

Movie evidence
*Mewtwo Strikes Back
: When Mewtwo throws Ash back with its psychic powers, Misty quickly runs up to him and asks if he's okay (Brock only stays put). At the ending, there's a scene of Ash, Misty, and Brock sleeping in their sleeping bags. Ash and Misty are placed conveniently near each other, while Brock's position is relatively away from them. When Ash is petrified by the fighting between Mew and Mewtwo, Misty murmurs "Please no" while Pikachu attempts to revive him.

* The Power of One
: In the Japanese trailer of the film, there was a scene that was animated specifically for that trailer. When Ash jumps down the cliff to save his Pikachu, Misty tries to follow him but Tracey holds her back. Misty looks completely distressed, as can be seen by her tears.

: P2K, otherwise known as 'The Power of One', or 'Revelation Lugia' is the conclusion to everything related to Misty's love for Ash in the Orange Season. In this movie, Misty gets competition in the form of Melody, the Festival Maiden of the Legend Ceremony. Melody, upon greeting our heroes, immediately comes up to Ash and plants a kiss on his cheek, provoking a glare of jealousy from Misty. Also, after Melody's performance at the festival party, she quickly kneels in front of Ash and grabs hold of his arm, provoking Misty to gasp and growl again in subdued jealousy.

:Also, upon being called Ash's girlfriend, Misty blushes uncontrollably.

:Near the end, Misty openly admits to Melody that Ash is "her burden" and goes off to rescue him in Melody's place, stating that he'll never be alone as he'll always have her, which Melody respects (due to the constant debating between her and Misty of Misty liking Ash throughout the movie).

* Pokemon 4Ever
: When our heroes are running from a Pokémon, Misty trips along the way. Ash (and Brock) run back to help her. They get to safety, at least for a little while, and all of a sudden some Pokémon appear to attack them. Ash runs in front of her and spreads his arms out to protect Misty.
:When Ash and Sammy are saved by Celebi and come down, Misty shouts, "Ash is okay!", not even mentioning Sam, Celebi, or Pikachu.

* Pokemon Heroes
: When Bianca/Latias kissed Ash on the dock, Misty was so shocked that not only did she develop the same jealous expression seen in the series, but she also dropped her Misty.

* Jirachi: Wish Maker
:On the last day of the comet's showing, Max is disappointed that he will have to part with Jirachi. Ash sits down with him by the river and reassures him that Jirachi will always will be in his heart. Ash tells him, "I had a really good friend, and I miss her every day." Many people would think this would be Misty. However this is in the dub only and can be argued. In the original, he only implies that he had many friends he needed to say goodbye to, not particularly a her.

:In the Spanish language version, Ash says, "Sabes, yo extraño mucho a mi mejor amiga." It means I really miss my best friend (amiga meaning a female friend, as opposed to amigo, a male friend) He could very well be referring to Misty.

Manga evidence
Electric Tale of Pikachu
In the Electric Tale of Pikachu manga, Ash has a huge crush on Gary's older sister, May. However, there are some cases where Ash shows attraction towards Misty. He finds her eye-catching, especially when he first sees her in her Gym uniform, which happens to be a very sexy swimsuit (in the original). Another event is during a scene in a hot spring in the second volume (though the scene was cut from the American release of the manga).

Just like in the anime, Rudy also proposed to Misty, and Ash shows great deal of bitterness toward it.

Pokémon Zensho
When Ash arrives at the Cerulean Gym, he is given a pair of swimming trunks as that is all that is allowed inside the pool arena. Misty appears soon after, prompting a blush from him. Soon after, during the battle, he sends out his Charmander, which is afraid of going near the water since the flame on its tail might go out. His Pikachu is sent next, but having no idea of what to do around the water, it falls in. As he attempts to save his Pokémon, Ash gets a cramp and nearly drowns, but Misty manages to rescue him.

Later on, as Ash and Pikachu dry themselves off, Misty suggests that she teach them how to properly move around in the water, so they can stand a better chance next time. He trains along with Pikachu, who floats on a life saver. Misty attempts to take the device away from the mouse, only to see that it is clinging to it. Eventually, as Ash and Pikachu end up improving. As he sits around with a Seel, Misty relays a story over how a Dewgong rescued her once when a large wave swept her underwater at the beach. Due to that experience, she feels gratitude toward the Pokémon.

After Ash thwarts an attack by a Rocket Grunt, she awards him with the Cascade Badge and her Seel, telling him that she hopes to meet the Dewgong that rescued her someday.

Other hints
For those already convinced about PokéShipping, there do exist events which suggest inconclusively, something along the lines of romance. But the difference between hints and proofs are that proofs are essentially ironclad and undebatable in contemporary debate, whereas hints are quite debatable, and are open to interpretation. The following is a listing of some that are considered to be debatable hints, all of which vary in strength and worth.

* Showdown at Pewter City
: Misty is surprisingly eager to start a Pokémon-sharing relationship with Ash in this episode and gets very upset when Ash refuses. Later, while Ash is charging up Pikachu's electric sacs, Misty again offers help to Ash and gets snubbed. She then grumbles and says, "What do I care..." and runs off. Misty somewhat admits by her behavior and dialogue that she's really interested in getting to know him better.

* Clefairy and the Moon Stone
: Misty, at the beginning of this episode, continually keeps mentioning how "romantic" the surroundings are. She continues to do this not only in this episode, but subsequent episodes as well.

* The Waterflowers of Cerulean City
: At the outskirts of Cerulean City, Misty attempts to dissuade Ash from going into the city by tempting him to go to Vermilion City. She does so by mentioning the "neat Pokémon, the yachts pulling into the harbor, and a spot way up on a hill where you can sit and watch a romantic sunset". The mentioning of a romantic scene subtly suggests what she might have intended for all along, especially with how many times she's talked about romantic things in previous episodes.

* Electric Shock Showdown!
: After Nurse Joy breaks up an argument between the two of them, she comments that they say when two people fight, they really care about each other; although Ash and Misty instantly reject the idea, they are both blushing slightly when they turn away from the other.

* The Tower of Terror
: When Ash enters the tower alone to try and catch a Ghost Pokémon, and is subsequently briefly separated from his body, Misty is the first one of her and Brock to express concern about how long Ash and Pikachu are taking inside. When Ash hovers beside her in his ghost form and lifts her in the air, Misty is the only one who can hear him despite Brock standing only a foot or so away from her, potentially hinting at a closer bond between the two. Also, before Ash and Pikachu return to their bodies, Misty is visibly near to tears as she pleads for Ash to wake up, and blushes immensely when he wakes up and greets her.

* Pokémon Scent-sation!
: Misty, unaware that Ash is disguised as a girl among the crowd and using the same girlish demeanor she used in "Ash Catches A Pokémon," dreamily admits to the group, "I wish Ash would've heard that story..." She openly is expressing a desire for Ash's presence.

: Also, during Ash's gym battle with Erika, the girls in the crowd start acknowledging Ash's skill and how much more impressive he is than he looks, provoking Misty to smile with reassurance.

* The Legend of Dratini
: At the beginning of the episode, Ash is marching and singing. Misty is right behind him and longingly stares at him until they reach the Safari Zone warden's house. After Ash sings out his last lines, Misty imitates his enthusiasm and sings her own lines as well. Of course, "Imitation is the sincerest form of flattery."

: Also, later in the episode, when Ash is about to dive in the water to grab the bomb that Team Rocket threw in there, Misty stops him, and says that it is too dangerous. Although this hint is under debate simply because it could be merely her worrying for Ash, (as a friend would do), she also sends down her Staryu to save Ash after he is down there for too long. And afterward, when he comes back up, Misty smiles and is thrilled that he is alive, with a blush apparent.

* March of the Exeggutor Squad
: Misty goes into perhaps the most extreme fits of blushing in the history of the series, all provoked by a simple compliment from Ash about her skimpy stage outfit. No one blushes like that out of mere embarrassment. She clearly holds Ash's opinion of her in exclusive priority.

* The Song of Jigglypuff
: As Jigglypuff begins singing in the woods, Ash and Brock are standing next to each other while Pikachu and Misty are sitting a couple feet away. After Jigglypuff is done singing, Brock and Pikachu are sprawled out asleep by themselves while Misty and Ash are slumped against each other. It might not have meant anything if the two were already standing by each other, in which case it would have just been convenient, but they weren't. Either they moved into this position because they are very comfortable with each other, or the director(s) might have just thrown this in to plant an idea. It is also interesting to note that when they wake up, Misty comments, "What a nice nap."

* The Misty Mermaid
: At the end of this episode, Ash tells Misty how amazing she was at her performance of the underwater play. Misty disproportionately calls Ash's comments "sweet talk" and reminds him of the bike he owes her, something she supposedly forgot about back on Cinnabar Island.

* Make Room for Gloom
: Upon arriving at the Xanadu Nursery, Brock spies on a pretty girl behind the window, after which Ash comes to look and says he doesn't see a pretty girl. Misty then says, "Just turn around" and giggles, clearly addressing Ash. Ash then jokes about her hallucinating, then starts chuckling.

: Ash, finally spotting a Gloom behind the window, asks Brock if "he's getting 'misty' over a gloom," This causes Misty to pull Ash's mouth wide with her fingers and ask him what is he saying about her, mistaking Ash's 'misty' comment with herself. Both seem to be blushing in the midst of their playfulness.

* Fourth Round Rumble
: While watching Ash's match on the grass field in the spectator stands with Brock, Misty becomes particularly vocal whenever Brock shows signs of attraction for Ash's current opponent Jeanette Fisher, yelling at Brock to remember whose side he is meant to be on. She also feels sorry for Ash when his mother and Professor Oak show up to tell him that all of Pallet Town is now rooting for him, recognizing the increased pressure this will put Ash under.

* Forest Grumps
: At the beginning of the episode, Ash and Misty are surprisingly close to one another while tending to their Pokémon. Brock on the other hand is away from them asleep behind a tree.

: Upon reunion, Ash and Misty exclaim each other's names in joy while the camera focuses on their faces. What's interesting to note is how the scripting and animation seem to focus just on their reunion alone.

* The Right Place and the Right Mime
: When Ash finally arrives home after his travels in Hoenn, he finds Misty at his house. She makes a point of being there, specifically so that she could see Ash as soon as he arrived back from Hoenn even though she apparently has no idea how soon exactly he would be returning. For all she knew, she could have been expecting a wait spanning multiple weeks.
: Azurill is a good excuse to go down there but it does not explain her behavior:
:*Why did she stay at Ash's mother's house, and not at Oak's laboratory?
:*Why was she waiting at Ash's mother's house for days and days for Ash's arrival, especially given that they didn't know exactly how long Ash would take to return?
:*Why was she so concerned about getting to see Ash as soon as he arrived?
:*How can her somewhat wistfully delivered line of how Ash is the same as always be explained?
:*Why couldn't she have simply delayed her trip down there until Ash had already arrived?

* The Mastermind of Mirage Pokémon
: Ash considers Misty as a rival at times and, when given the chance, he likes showing off to impress her. In this special episode, Ash receives an invitation from Dr. Yung. Upon reaching the mansion of Dr. Yung, he is surprised to see Misty and Professor Oak there. As Misty proceeds on asking me why he is there, Ash waves the invitation in front of him in an attempt to show off, saying that he got invited because of his great skills as a trainer. Misty stays composed and shows her own invitation, telling him that she also got invited, which surprises Ash.

: When Dr. Yung asks Ash and Misty to battle, Ash quickly expresses his excitement only to be foiled by Misty. The Gym Leader reminds Ash of his manners and says "Ladies first!" while winking an eye at him.

: In order to save Professor Oak, Ash decides to sneak into the castle through underwater. He could have chosen May or Max to come with him, but he chose Misty.

* Aim to Be a Pokémon Master
: In the first ever opening theme song of the Pokémon anime, there is a scene where the Ash and his friends are in a forest by a campfire. It's an interesting note to see Ash and Misty sitting very close to each other, while Brock is quite far from them, sitting on the other side.

* Spurt!
: In the fifth and final opening theme song for the Japanese Advanced Generation Pokémon anime series, Misty was shown in a "Queen of Hearts" card together with Delia Ketchum. One could say the two girls in the card likely represent the more important females in Ash's life.

* Under the Mistletoe
: This song includes hints from both. Ash sings about that he is happy tonight and Misty sings about she knows she will meet her true love under the mistletoe. Later during this song, Misty comments that she and Ash stand under the mistletoe. Also, both sing they want to tell something to St. Nicholas. However, when they are both under the mistletoe Ash runs off.

*Misty constantly yelled at and insulted Ash through out the show, and is an example of the hiding of feelings for children of that age, however depending on how much older they have gotten since they had met, this may or may not be a very big clue.
*Every time that Ash has a near-death-experience or Misty thinks that Ash is dead, she expresses extreme anguish, almost to the extent of sobbing.

Alternate names
PokéShipping, as with many of the more popular Ships, is known by a variety of different names. Following the emergence of PokéShipping from amongst these as the de-facto standard, the other names have become associated with certain groups within the PokéShipping fandom, or certain methods of shipping. A prominent few are detailed below.

* GakiShipping - An early term coined around the same time as TwerpShipping, the name was originally meant to be descriptive of both Ash & Misty being gakis (Gaki being a somewhat rude way to refer to a child in Japanese), but has since evolved to describe the actual shipper, and is now used only in an insulting manner towards shippers (not necessarily just PokéShippers) who use flimsy evidence to support their position, or otherwise act childish, especially when referring to their supported 'ships.

* SatoKasu - The original (Japanese) term for the ship, using the standard Japanese naming method of combining the first 2 characters from each characters name, starting with the dominant character.

* SakaShipping - Another early name for the pairing, from Satoshi and Kasumi.

* BikeShipping - this name refers to Ash and Pikachu breaking Misty's bike, and is among the least used of all names for this pairing.

* SushiShipping - from Kasumi and Satoshi. Combining portions of the characters' names to form words was common early on, but now is hardly ever used.

* TwerpShipping - The original (English) name for the ship, the term is currently used primarily only amongst users on TRHQ, and by those who primarily associate themselves with RocketShipping.

* AAML - Standing for Ash And Misty Love. Also AAMRN, Ash And Misty Romance Novel.

Trivia
* Ash and Misty are the only human characters who were shown bleeding in an episode: Misty in Wake Up Snorlax! and Ash in Ignorance is Blissey and Tears For Fears!.
* The both of them have held hands a couple of times in the series and when they do, the camera focuses on their hands for a moment.
* Ash's Pikachu and Misty's Togetic, as a Togepi, are seen being carried around by their Trainers. These two Pokémon never reside in a Poké Ball. Misty also carries around her Misty, as well (though it should be noted that her Azurill was implied to have been placed in a Poké Ball offscreen sometime after returning to the gym, as evidenced by her Azurill not being present at all in The Mastermind of Mirage Pokémon).
* They both used a Lure Ball to capture a Water Pokémon, Totodile and Misty respectively, in the Johto region. Interestingly, both Water-type Pokémon are very energetic.
* They have battled against each other twice for the ownership of a Pokémon: Togepi and Totodile.
* The two have shared similar victory poses in the series. Where imitation is known to be the ultimate form of flattery.
* Misty is the only female companion of Ash who is not a Coordinator, as she is a Gym Leader who specializes in Water Pokémon. Like Brock, she has also acted as Ash's coach when she was still traveling with the group.
* Ash's Pikachu took a liking to Misty very early in the show. Professor Oak and other characters have stated that Pokémon reflect the feelings of their Trainers.

* A Farfetch'd Tale
: Jessie blushes and looks at James adoringly when he is doing well in battle against Ash and company.
* Spinarak Attack
: After James managed to break into the storeroom, Jessie started to flirt with him and appreciate his skills as she nudged him with her arm.
* Training Daze!
* Exploud and Clear!
: Jessie blushes after James plugs the holes in Guy's Exploud.
* Sweet Baby James
: Jessie looked annoyed when James freaked out at the idea of being married to her.
* Reversing the Charges
* Throwing the Track Switch
: Jessie tries to cheer James up by stealing Buizel for him (and Dawn for herself). When she sees how happy this has made him she smiles and holds his hands.
* Noodles: Roamin' Off
: Once Jessie learns about James being in danger, she immediately rushes to look for him. She saves him by attacking Metagross with her Seviper and Yanmega, but then, she finds herself in danger as well, as she was nearly killed by Metagross along with James. When James apologized for getting her into this mess, she smiled and said that that's what friends were for. She also asked James to look her up in the "Team Rocket Headquarters in the sky".

* Pokémon Shipwreck
: When it looked like Jessie and James were going to die, James says to Jessie "Someone, who said that beautiful people are destined to have a sad fate, must have meant us." implying that he thinks Jessie is beautiful.
* The Ultimate Test
: After Jessie is expelled from the test, James says in a determined voice that he'll do his best for her.
* The Legend of Dratini
* Princess vs. Princess
* Snack Attack
: James blushes after Jessie compliments him on having a good memory.
* Good 'Quil Hunting
* Noodles! Roamin' Off!
: When Jessie left to pursue a career in Contests, James was visibly hurt and wondered how strong their bond really was. He then ran off and cried. Later in the episode after Jessie saved him, James got on his knees and cried because he was happy she came back.
* Old Rivals, New Tricks
* DP146

* Pokémon Shipwreck
* Holy Matrimony!
* Training Daze!
* The Bicker the Better
* Hail to the Chef
: Jessie and James were seen asleep on a bed with the covers partly over them. Jessie was sleeping on top of James.
* Noodles! Roamin' Off!
* Uncrushing Defeat!
: One image from their motto shows Jessie and James on a set of scales with a pink heart symbol on it, seemingly at balance despite it swinging slightly.

Movie evidence
Jessie's hints
* Jirachi: Wish Maker
: At the end of the movie Jessie and James are holding onto each other and talking about how they don't care about wishes anymore and are just happy to be alive. They smile and Jessie says she's fine just doing this.

James' hints
* Lucario and the Mystery of Mew
: After the leukocytes gets Jessie, James uses his James to try and rescue Jessie. He gets out of the way when it tries to hug him showing how serious he is taking this. After he fails to rescue Jessie they both cry out to each other and she is dragged down. James stands there speechless, visibly heart broken, and then gets engulfed as well.

Shared hints
* Mewtwo Strikes Back
: Jessie and James are hugging each other throughout most of the movie.
* The Power of One
: Meowth says to Jessie and James "But you two are burning with love for each other!" causing Jessie and James to get upset and blush. A few minutes later they are seen hugging each other.
* Lucario and the Mystery of Mew
: Jessie and James are seen holding onto each other after they are freed from the leukocytes.

Non anime evidence
* Electric Tale of Pikachu
: At the end of the manga, Jessie and James end up married with a child on the way, and in the epilogue there is a panel in which we see a flashback to James confessing his love to Jessie. There is also some suggestive physical contact between the two throughout the manga.
* It's a White Tomorrow, Team Rocket!
: When Jessie, James and Mondo are about to be attacked by a hoard of Beedrill, they recite the lines of a famous Kabuki scene when two lovers do a double suicide.
* Pokémon Puzzle League
: During stage five in The Spa, they are dressed bridal couple, with the Bridal March as the theme.

Trivia
* James's mother looks very similar to Jessie.
* Jessie and James' first fearhug was at the end of the episode Showdown in Pewter City.

Ultimately, as canon as supporters feel it is, its opposers feel there remains a gap just wide enough for argument in favor of its Ship rival, AdvanceShipping, and continue the debate between the two.

Evidence
* Now That's Flower Power!
: In Drew's first episode Drew seemed to like her from the moment he saw her because he would not make fun of her act if he never saw it.Also he seemed very unhappy when May did not finish their battle.
: He told the gang "I don't know what's going on, but I'm happy to assist!" which shows that he cares about May enough already to help her, even though he has no idea what's going on.

* Win, Lose or Drew!

* Pros and Con Artists!

* Come What May!
: Upon receiving her first ribbon from the Fallarbor Contest, May is congratulated by Drew, who delivers his third rose. Upon receiving it, May asks Drew rather coyly if the rose is for Beautifly again, indicating that she has suspicions as to the true nature of his roses. Drew slightly admits that the roses aren't really for Beautifly as he responds to her question with a dubious "Yeah... Something like that..." Also, near the end of this episode, Drew is seen with a Masquerain, which is a Pokémon that breeds nicely with Beautifly, one of which May has.

* Hi Ho Silver Wind

* Deceit and Assist

* Rhapsody In Drew!

* Harley Rides Again
: At the end of the episode following May's defeat to Harley, May receives a letter and a rose from Drew via Lilian which informs her of another Contest where she can again qualify for another ribbon. It is noted that this rose is given an unusual amount of focus during this double-take in which it takes up the entire screen.

* Odd Pokémon Out
: May is holding the rose and the letter she receives in the previous episode while on a boat. She apparently considers these two items as sentimental to her. As May already knows quite well what Drew means with the roses at this point in time now, her keeping and looking at Drew's romantic token that appeared in a prior episode is quite significant.

* Spontaneous Combusken!

* Going for Choke

* Channeling the Battle Zone

His Japanese voice actor is 子安武人 Takehito Koyasu.

Appearances
Mondo's first and only appearance was in the radio drama It's a White Tomorrow, Team Rocket!. This album portrayed one of the regular meetings between Mondo and Jessie, James, and Meowth. Mondo traded his Ditto for Meowth, but the deal did not work out and each Pokémon returned to its original party. After his appearance in the drama, rumors started circulating about him appearing in the anime, but they were proved to be wrong.

Mondo has great admiration for Jessie, James, and Meowth, and has a crush on Jessie. He calls Jessie and James 先輩 senpai (senior) and practically worships Meowth.

It appears that Mondo is only available to help Jessie, James, and Meowth in the Kanto region, as they often go without food and supplies while in other regions.

Unlike many other Team Rocket members, Mondo is not shown to travel or work with any other designated Rockets. Perhaps he does, but he probably operates alone. He appears to be quite young (around 16 years old), so perhaps Giovanni has not assigned him to any important missions. It would certainly explain why he provides supplies to other Team Rocket members, rather than participating in any truly criminal activities.

Megumi Hayashibara (Japanese: 林原めぐみ, born March 30, 1967) is a voice actress who provides the voices of many characters in the Japanese version of the Pokémon anime. Her most famous role in the series is that of Musashi.

Biography
Megumi Hayashibara was born on March 30, 1967, in Tokyo, Japan. When she was a young girl, she loved to watch anime, and she was shocked to learn that adults provided the voices of the characters she believed were real. When she was a little older, she was one of eighteen girls out of over 600 chosen by a talent agency, Arts Vision, to undergo training to become a voice actress. Despite her two-year training with Arts Vision, Hayashibara's parents were opposed to her prospective career; bowing to their pressure, Hayashibara enrolled in nursing school, and disliked it. She eventually saw a magazine article about a voice acting school that was recruiting students, and she made up her mind to quit nursing and become an actress.

Hayashibara's first anime role was that of a kindergartener heard off-screen in the first episode of Maison Ikkoku, and she later was credited as providing the voice for Yosuke Nanao. She then went on to provide hundreds, if not thousands of other voices.

In addition to her voice acting career, Hayashibara is an accomplished singer, with fourteen solo albums released between 1991 and 2004. She also has hosted two radio talk and music shows, Tokyo Boogie Night (in Tokyo) and Megumi's Heartful Station (in Osaka).

On March 30, 1998, on her thirty-first birthday, Hayashibara was married to a coworker she had been seeing for five years previous. On June 28, 2004, she had her first child, a girl.

Pokémon
Jessie is just one of the many voices Hayashibara has provided on Pokémon, but it is her major role in the series. It is possible that Jessie's past failed aspirations to be a nurse were based on Hayashibara's own failed experiences.

From episodes AG085 to AG092, Hayashibara went on maternity leave, and 平松晶子 Akiko Hiramatsu provided the voice of Jessie during this time.
Training Daze (Japanese: ロケット団　愛と青春の原点 Rocket-dan: The Origin of Love and Youth) is episode 12 of Pokémon Chronicles, and the twelfth side story episode of Weekly Pokémon Broadcasting Station in Japan. It was first broadcast in Japan on September 30, 2003, in the UK on August 3, 2005, and in the USA on August 19, 2006.

Synopsis
The episode begins with Team Rocket flying through the sky after being blasted off. They exchange remarks on their pathetic situation. James rifles through one of his pockets, sending a bunch of his prized bottle caps flying through the air. One of them, a beat-up gold one with a red R on it, lands on MTR's face. Jessie gets very sentimental, and a flashback begins.

Jessie is hanging upside down, wearing a maroon Team Rocket outfit. She slowly descends downward, hanging by a rope. She stops just above a giant Articuno statue. Looking up, she sees her partners, Jūbei and Mankey, struggling to hold the rope. Back to the task at hand, she wraps her arms around the statue and tells them to pull her and the statue up. Suddenly, the rope slips, and Jessie drops the statue; it shatters on the floor. The room turns red and shakes and an alarm rings. Jessie drops to the ground and runs out a door, Jūbei calling after her; she ignores him and leaves. The room collapses on him and Mankey.

A female voice on an intercom announces the results of the training test, and a man with a Mohawk, Viper, emerges out of the darkness. Bright lights suddenly shine on Jessie, and looking back, it is seen that Rocket grunts are helping Jūbei and Mankey to their feet. Viper chastises Jessie, and she blows him off and walks away.

Later, Viper is reporting to Giovanni the results of the test. He looks at a chart and sees that the top group in the Blue Team of trainees consists of Cassidy, Butch, and their Raticate. He looks at another chart and sees that the top contenders in the Red Team were rejected except for Jessie.

Suddenly, a grunt bursts in the room, telling Giovanni that his unit discovered something rare: a talking Pokémon. At that point, Meowth appears, saying that he wants to join Team Rocket, and Giovanni accepts the offer.

Meanwhile, Jessie and Cassidy are running on treadmills; they glare at each other and begin seeing who can run the fastest. As a result, both treadmills break down. Later, both are in a locker room when they begin exchanging insulting remarks. Cassidy wonders who Jessie's new partner will be. At the end of the conversation, Cassidy calls for Butch (using the wrong name) over the wall to the male locker room; he yells at her that she got his name wrong. Jessie looks depressed.

In Giovanni's office, Giovanni's Persian looks jealous of Meowth, who is on the floor eating ravenously from a bowl, talking to Giovanni as he eats. Giovanni simply remarks, "I see," without making further comment.

Outside, the sun is setting on the mountainous base, and Jessie leans on a railing, looking out over the rocks. Viper approaches her from behind and tells her she was the top trainee in the Red Group; he also tells her that she has a new partner. He points to a nearby wall, against which James is leaning. Both trainees glare at each other and speak cautiously. James tells Jessie that he has never run away.

The next day, Jessie and James are put through an agility and endurance course together, jumping over pits and barriers. While crawling under barbed wire, they stop and glare at each other before continuing on. Jessie manages to run over a group of hole traps without falling in, but James falls into one. Jessie stops and looks back, and James climbs up, saying he won't run away because he never has. Both trainees begin running again.

Meanwhile, Giovanni talks to someone on the phone (probably Viper) about how Jessie and James need a Pokémon teammate. Meowth walks down a nearby hall, carrying a cup of coffee for Giovanni. He trips over a wet mop that hits an overhead light, electrocuting him. He enters Giovanni's office, burnt and disheveled. Giovanni calls him over, and Meowth responds enthusiastically, hoping he can replace Persian as Giovanni's pet. However, Giovanni has other plans.

Later, Viper introduces Meowth to Jessie and James, telling them he will be their teammate. They look skeptical at first, but are shocked when they learn he can speak human language. Meowth thinks he is special because Giovanni gave him a job to do...

Viper shows a group of teams a mountainous map with an X, telling them to reach that point (the exercise is another skills test). Jessie and James exchange unsatisfactory glances again before setting off.

In the hills, the teams are seen hiking over rocks. Meowth stops to eat some bread and drink and bathe himself in some water. Later, he ends up stuck on a rock in the middle of water. James has to rescue him, carrying him across the water on his head. While scaling a rock, Meowth slips down, James having to aid him again, giving him some of his water and bread on one condition- he returns the water bottle's bottle cap. Jessie looks back and keeps climbing the rock.

Nightfall, and the three are around a campfire, James and Meowth appearing to sleep. Jessie pulls out her bread and water and hears Meowth stomach growl. She almost eats her bread, but instead splits it into three parts, giving one to Meowth and one to James. He originally resists, but she tells him that "we eat together as a team." He takes the bread.

Some time later, the campfire is out and the trio appear to be sleeping. Meowth is snoring loudly. Turned away from each other, James asks Jessie if she's awake, and she answers "yeah." He confesses to her that his remarks about not running away were lies, and that he has been running away his entire life thus far. She then confesses that she has always been alone and has never felt friendship or love. Both say they are optimistic about tomorrow, and vow to be the top team. Meowth agrees in his sleep.

The next morning, the three find that they have to cross a rundown bridge. Meowth is scared, but Jessie and James are determined. Jessie tells him that they are a team and have to go together. James gives Meowth a pep talk, and Jessie continues ahead onto the bridge. A plank falls out ahead of her, but she misses the gap and keeps going. She eventually makes it across the bridge safely. Then, James attempts to cross with Meowth riding on his head. Suddenly, a rope holding the bridge up breaks. Jessie reaches out to them, but all James can do is throw Meowth to her while holding on to his tail. Seeing that Meowth is in pain, James lets go, dropping into the river. Jessie screams for him.

Later, Jessie and Meowth are standing outside an operating room with a doctor while James is seen, bandaged from head to toe, inside the room laying on a bed.

Then, Jessie, Cassidy, and Butch sit in desks in a classroom while Viper tells them of their next test. They have to get to a red Snorlax in the top of a tall penthouse, but there are many traps waiting for them. The first team to get there becomes the top team. Butch asks a question, and Viper praises him, but calls him by the wrong name. Butch tries to correct him, but is ignored. Viper once again calls him the wrong name. Cassidy mocks Jessie for having an injured teammate, then calls poor Butch the wrong name again.

Later that night, Jessie and Meowth appear in some bushes alongside Cassidy, Butch, and Raticate. Cassidy once again calls Butch the wrong name. They scale the penthouse wall using suction cups. Back in the bushes, Jessie walks off, about to give up, remarking that failure is the story of her life. Suddenly, James appears, still bandaged. He says the first couple of lines from what will soon be the team's motto, and pulls the bandages off, apparently unscathed, to a shocked Jessie and Meowth. He tells Jessie that he doesn't want to run away this time. Jessie's eyes well up with tears, which she clears, and the three rush off to beat Butch, Cassidy, and Raticate.

After a montage of the two teams making it through numerous traps, both appear in the room with the red Snorlax from opposite doors at the same time. Cassidy and Butch run ahead to the Snorlax, Cassidy actually calling Butch the right name this time, but a hole appears in front of them and they fall in. James and Meowth, not having seen the other team fall into the hole, run ahead and fall in their hole, Jessie trying to stop them but it being too late. James grabs onto Meowth's tail again, and Meowth manages to hook his claws onto the floor above, but the two begin sinking quickly. Jessie runs up and grabs Meowth's paws. James tells Jessie and Meowth to go on to be a good team, leaving him behind. Jessie tells him she hates that idea, but James lets go of Meowth's tail anyway. Both Jessie and Meowth manage to grab onto his hand before he falls into the hole (it's really just Jessie holding him up, though, because she is simultaneously holding Meowth). James tells them to let go, but they refuse. James is visibly touched.

Finally, Jessie and Meowth pull James out of the hole, James landing awkwardly on top of Jessie, who blushes. Meowth jumps up in excitement and both spring up immediately and act as if nothing has happened. They make it to the caged Snorlax and activate a balloon that pulls it to the ceiling. An alarm clock rings and Viper emerges from the Snorlax, which was a costume.

The next day, Jessie, James, Meowth, Cassidy, Butch, and Raticate stand before Viper, with the latter three in bandages (Cassidy calls Butch the wrong name again, too, and his angry response is muffled by bandages). Viper tells the groups that despite the fact that they didn't capture the Snorlax, they have been made official teams. They all looked shocked, and Viper congratulates them. The two groups shout in excitement and hug their respective group members.

The flashback ends with Jessie's narration, and the trio goes flying off into the distance, Jessie's Wobbuffet appearing just in time to get in its obligatory agreement with whatever has just been said.
Trivia
* Jessie reads the title card.
* Jessie had been through 12 partners before becoming compatible with James and Meowth.
* In the English dub, Double Trouble was used as an insert song. In the Japanese version, Team Rocket Forever was used.
* Because the Sky is There was also used as an insert song in the Japanese version of this episode.
* While in the English dub, Butch's name is mispronounced many different ways, in Japanese, it is only mispronounced as コサンジ Kosanji (instead of correctly being コサブロウ Kosaburō).
Errors
* The history given in this episode appears to contradict statements from earlier episodes. Jessie and James previously stated they were friends long before joining Team Rocket, whereas this episode implies they met after joining. In addition, in previous episodes, Meowth was known to formerly be Giovanni's personal pet who was replaced by Persian, but in this episode, Giovanni has Persian when Meowth joins, and Meowth is made to do petty chores.
Dub edits
*In the Japanese version, Jessie had gone through twelve teammates, and in the English version, she had only gone through ten.
*While the Rocket Grunt tells Giovanni about Meowth and introduces him in the Japanese version, the English version makes the Rocket Grunt say that Meowth insisted on seeing Giovanni.
*The English version of the campfire scene is completely rewritten to have James tell Jessie that they would make a great team, with Meowth ordering something to eat in his sleep.
*In the dub, when they meet each other, Jessie calls James by his name and tells him that she's not going to carry him through the training, and James replies with "No one's carried me since my momma!" In the original, Jessie doesn't call James by his name and tells him that she's already gone through twelve teammates. James interrupts Jessie, wags his finger, and says that he's not interested in the other trainees who failed before him.
