Alolan Variants Should Have Their Own Pages
I don't think it's fair that Alolan variant Pokemon are only side notes on their "normal variant" pages. These Alolan formes are not like Hoopa Unbound or Arial Shaymin. Those Pokemon eventually find ways of returning to their original formes. These Alolan formes are inherent to the Pokemon, they will never change into their "normal" counterpart. They will have different abilities, different move sets, different typings. I think they merit having their own pages. For example keep the regular Ninetales page, and add another one entitled Ninetales (Alola). Milotic1209
:We literally have no information about them except for the appearances, types, and some of their abilities. We don't have enough info to have their own pages, and even if we did, it's still a Vulpix, it's still a Ninetails...they aren't brand new Pokémon altogether. --<font color="blue">Hoenn</font><font color="green">Master</font> 06:31, 10 August 2016 (UTC)
::We have seen Alolan Ninetales use Ice Beam, at least. Sky Shaymin would make for a fair base, what with Air Slash exclusivity there. Phineas81707 (talk) 02:12, 11 August 2016 (UTC)
:But people give new Pokemon Bulbapedia entries all the time without knowing what their full set list, abilities, evolution levels, etc. are going to be. Bewear alrealdy has a page, so that argument is kind of moot. In the case of Alolan Variants, every time one has been revealed we've gotten typing and even abilities, so we definitely have enough to start building pages for them and then fill them out completely once we know all the details. And yes it is still a Vulpix and Ninetales, but with a completely different appearance, diifferent abilities, I think that if we keep adding variants to the pages of "normal" Pokemon, it's going to start looking REALLY messy. I mean what if two generations down the line there's a ground typed Ninetales, are we seriously going to have all three versions on the same page? Crowded much? Milotic1209
::There have already been Wormadam with Deoxys that had significant differences. If Vulpix or Ninetales has their Hidden Ability (Drought), it functions the same as having Sunny Day. When Sunny Day is active, Water type moves are reduced to 50%. If that is the case (and please correct me if I am wrong) would the effective damage of Water type moves against a Vulpix / Ninetales with Drought effectively be 1x and not 2x, due to the 50% Water Type reduction.
True, it simulates weather. But it's not caused by a move or environment. It's a continuous and passive trait of that specific pokemon, making it a constant effect. Just like Levitate is a continuous and passive trait. (Solstice (talk) 10:16, 15 April 2013 (UTC))
I agree though. It is a weather effect, but it is not weather induced. It is ability induced, making weather. (Solstice (talk) 10:27, 15 April 2013 (UTC))
:Put it this way: if you Skill Swap Levitate off a Pokemon, it becomes susceptible to Ground-type moves, so it's important to indicate that it is immune to Ground-type moves only if it has Levitate. But if you Skill Swap Drought off Vulpix or Ninetales, the weather continues and Water-type moves remain 1x effective even though Vulpix/Ninetales doesn't have Drought anymore. Conversely, if you use Rain Dance, Water-type moves become 3x effective even though Vulpix/Ninetales still has Drought. It's not the Ability that affects the type effectiveness, it's the weather that does. == Ok so whats up with Alola Ninetales? ==
Just want to point out that Alolan Ninetales is the first ever Ice-Fairy Pokemon, so why is that not included in the trivia section yet? Granted I would add it myself but I cant seem to change anything on the page at the moment. Im also curious as to what people think about Alolan Ninetales compared to the regular Ninetales that we all know. Personally I hate the new typing but I think the design is fantastic, and now that Ninetales has a new form, were probably not going to see any mega evolution, and that makes me upset. You're thoughts?
Blackoutdmc (talk) 01:23, 7 August 2016 (UTC)
:To answer the first part: It's not in trivia because being "first" is not notable. If, once all the Pokemon are revealed, it is a unique typing then it will be notable. It will be added to the page at that time. As for the rest of your questions . . . The discussion of the Pokemon itself, lack of Mega Evos, etc, is talk for the forums. == Separate Pages for "Normal" and "Alolan" Ninetales. ==

I actually think that all the new Alolan Pokemon should get a separate page. This isn't a forme change we're talking about here, it's a subspecies of a Pokemon. Pokemon with several formes such as Giratina, Hoopa, etc. can stay on one page because the Pokemon in question eventually revert to their original formes. These Alolan Pokemon will forever stay Alolan Pokemon. Milotic1209
:There are plenty of Pokemon with forms that can never change from one form to another — for instance, Shellos/Gastrodon or Flabebe's line. Ultimately, it comes down to whether their National Dex numbers are the same or different. Until the game comes out, we won't know that, but at the moment it's more prudent to keep all the information together on one page, since it would be unprecedented to have separate National Dex numbers for forms of the same Pokemon. ::Note also we have Regional variant which covers all of the Alolan forms. That suffices for our purpose. CycloneGU (talk) 22:16, 10 August 2016 (UTC)
:Yeah, but Gastrodon and Flabebe's typings stay the same. Their changes are entirely cosmetic. Variant formes are essentially changing the entire Pokemon to it's core. It's not that it learns an extra move like Sky Shaymin would, these variants are going to have completely different movepools to deal with. IDK, this whole "we have an Alolan formes section that covers everything, that will suffice" seems more like laziness to me. But I don't make the Bulbapedia rules, so I guess I'll just have to accept it. Does no one else really think it's going to look incredibly messy to have information on basically two Pokemon all on the same page though?

If Vulpix or Ninetales has their Hidden Ability (Drought), it functions the same as having Sunny Day. When Sunny Day is active, Water type moves are reduced to 50%. If that is the case (and please correct me if I am wrong) would the effective damage of Water type moves against a Vulpix / Ninetales with Drought effectively be 1x and not 2x, due to the 50% Water Type reduction.
I was just looking under the "Type Effectiveness" section and noticed it wasn't under the Notes.
== Needs redirect ==
For some reason, Ninetales_(Pokemon) doesn't redirect here, even though every other pokemon I've tried it with has that style of redirect. Either somebody should undelete that redirect, or they should start deleting a hell of a lot more. --Cedrickc (talk) 20:30, 5 July 2013 (UTC)
:Apparently SnorlaxMonster deleted that page and the equivalent one for Ho-Oh, as well as several un-CamelCase-ed move names, back on April 19. I didn't restore the moves because I understand his justification ("encourages misspelling"), but I restored Ninetales and Ho-Oh because the "é" character is very useful to redirect, seeing as how we don't have a little button to insert it in the search bar like we do here in the editing box.

This page is to talk about the improvement of the article.

* Although female Dream World artwork exists, any Frillish or Jellicent uploaded to the Global Link will use the male artwork, regardless of their gender.
* No Pokémon have the same type combination as Jellicent and its pre-evolution.

Origin
Jellicent and its pre-evolution were most likely inspired by the Nurarihyon, a jellyfish youkai that is either shown as a demonized jellyfish or as a jellyfish-like man who wears refined, sometimes regal, clothing. It is also possible that they were inspired by the Kurage no Hinotama, a sort of jellyfish-like will-o'-the-wisp. Its design is inspired by the jellyfish, in particular the Crown Jellyfish, and monarch attire; the male's appearance is based on a king's while the female's is based on a queen's. The Aurelia aurita may have influenced Jellicent being a ghost type. Its dangerous ability to prey on humans, in self-defense of its habitat, is possibly based on the Box jellyfish and other highly venomous species of jellyfish that can kill humans. The two larger tentacles Jellicent possesses are more similar to those of squids than the tentacles of real jellyfish. Jellicent also has traits in common with sea monsters like the Kraken, most notably its rumored penchant for destroying ships and feeding on the crew.

Name origin
Jellicent is a combination of jellyfish and magnificent or translucent.

Burungel is a combination of blue and angel (reference to sea angels).
Malamar's Dark/Psychic typing and hypnotic powers remind me of the Illithids or mindflayers from Dungeons & Dragons. They are squid-headed humanoids with often purple-blue skin; they have psionic powers and can control others to do their bidding. Illithids have a history of being adapted for Japanese video games; there is a Mindflayer enemy in Final Fantasy as well. Of course, there's no telling what it's really based on besides just a squid. It'd be cool if we could get a designer interview discussing some of the origins of these designs like was done for some Pokémon in Generation V.
Clearly the MAL in Malamar can more easily be related to such words as Malignant, Maleficent, Malicious. So many words, it seems quite silly to just leave the bulbapedia entry at "a combination of mal and calamari". Pedestrian, no? At the very least specify that "mal" is indeed a prefix followed by something like "from the Latin Malus, meaning bad". Here's a link to the dictionary definition of the prefix http://dictionary.reference.com/browse/mal-
I was thinking it might be based on (the idea of) a vampire squid. It doesn't look like an actual vampire squid, but it does sort of look like a squid that was also a vampire Vienna Waltz (talk) 12:42, 13 July 2013 (UTC)
==Trivia==
* No Pokémon have the same type combination as Burungel and its pre-evolution.
* Burungel and its Pururiru, along with Kenhorou are the only Generation V Pokémon that have gender differences.

Origin
Burungel and its pre-evolution were most likely inspired by the Nurarihyon, a jellyfish youkai that is either shown as a demonized jellyfish or as a jellyfish-like man who wears refined, sometimes regal, clothing. It is also possible that they was inspired by the Kurage no Hinotama, a sort of jellyfish-like Will-o'-the-wisp. Its design is inspired by the jellyfish, in particular the Crown Jellyfish, and monarch attire; the male form's appearance based on a king's while the female's is based on a queen's.

Name origin
Its name is likely a combination of ブルー burū, blue, and エンジェル enjeru, angel; reference to Sea angels .
Ghost type with Damp
Well, its Dream World ability is kinda interesting, it prevent it from being Explosion, while his ghost type usually blocks this move due to its normal type.
Of course prohibiting Explosion and Selfdestruct differs from being simply immune to them and is not as fascinating, as flying Rotom's Levitate, but it probably deserves to be mentioned in trivia. --ЫъГЬ 18:43, 18 November 2010 (UTC)
Appearance
Under the trivia section Burungel is described to look like a "Victorian Monarch" where I'd say that it bears a stronger resemblance to Elizabethan sytles or even those of the French Revolution Era (Marie Antoinette for example). I think this is particularly applicable for the female version. Victorian dress was very demure using dark colors and pastels, make up was light or not used at all. I just don't think that it's entirely accurate to describe it as Victorian... I mean you've all seen pictures of Queen Victoria right? She looks like she's going to church or a funeral! Very elegant yes, but not the bright spectre Miss Burungel seems to be...
