The Magikarp salesman (Japanese: コイキング売り Koiking-uri) is a tricky man who is always getting James to buy one of his Pokémon. He is voiced by 石塚運昇 Unshō Ishizuka in Japanese and by Eric Stuart in the English dub. He seems to be a reference to the infamous man in the Mt. Moon Pokémon Center in Red, Blue, Yellow, FireRed, and LeafGreen, who would sell the player an ordinary Magikarp for PDollar500 (but of course, Magikarp is the most common Pokémon while fishing). However, the games' Magikarp salesman did serve some purpose, because a player could use him to get a Magikarp before receiving a rod, so they could get a Gyarados early on.

His first appearance in the anime was on the St. Anne in Battle Aboard the St. Anne selling Magikarp to anyone foolish enough to buy one. He would tell them that they would reproduce and make the buyer rich. James was foolish enough to buy one which later evolved into a James. Later he would trade his Weepinbell for James's Victreebel. He has also appeared in Hoenn, selling a James disguised as Chimecho when James was searching for a Chimecho, and also selling Magikarp disguised as a Feebas for a Spoink pearl which Team Rocket stole. Both of them were successfully sold to Team Rocket.

He tried his golden Magikarp scam on Tracey in Showdown at the Oak Corral claiming that the Magikarp could lay golden eggs. However, unlike Team Rocket, Tracey was too smart to fall for this trick. The Magikarp Salesman ran off when he discovered that it was Professor Oak's laboratory.

He made a cameo when Ash captured Aipom in Channeling the Battle Zone.

His latest appearance was in Ya See We Want an Evolution. He sold an Evolution machine/Mecha-bot to Team Rocket. While he did inform Team Rocket that the machine must warm up for at least a week before use, Team Rocket forgot to follow his instructions, which resulted in failure in evolving Pokémon and sustaining its Mecha-bot form. it is therefore unknown if this was another one of his scams, or if the machine would truly have worked. However, considering he ran off after telling them, it may have been another lie to keep them from following him.
Trivia
*The Magikarp salesman was given a Hispanic accent in all of the dubbed episodes except for Showdown at the Oak Corral where he speaks without an accent. This may have been an oversight of the Pokémon Chronicles production team, as after Pokémon USA took over the dubbing, his Hispanic accent returned in Ya See We Want an Evolution.
Electrode (Japanese: マルマイン Marumine) is an Electric-type Pokémon.

Biology
Physiology
This Pokémon resembles a Poké Ball. For this reason, many trainers try to pick it up in the Power Plant, mistaking it for an item. Electrode has made many appearances in the series, and even some appearances in Super Smash Bros., Super Smash Bros. Melee, and Super Smash Bros. Brawl. Interestingly, whereas it's pre-evolution form resembles a conventional pokeball in both shape and color, this pokemon has it's colors reversed (the red being on the bottom and white on top)

Gender differences
This Pokémon is genderless.

Special abilities
The more electric energy Electrode consumes, the faster it moves. If agitated, it may randomly Explosion.

Behavior
Electrode tend to live in power plants where fresh electricity is being generated. As a result, this Pokémon often causes blackouts. Electrode Explosion in response to even the smallest stimuli. It is known to explode when bored just to entertain itself.

Habitat
Electrode live in power plants.

Diet
Main article: Pokémon food

Electrode feeds off of electricity in the atmosphere. It explodes when it eats too much electricity.

In the anime
Electrode's first appearance was during The Flame Pokémon-athon. It was used in a Pokémon Race.

When Team Rocket was trying to infiltrate Prof. Oak's lab in Showdown at the Poké Corral, they fell into a pit of Electrode.

In Pikachu's Vacation, an Electrode's explosion signaled the start of a swimming race between Ash's Squirtle and a Marill.

An Electrode has also been owned by Danny, the Gym Leader of Navel Island.

Electrode's first major role was during The Underground Round Up. A town was over-populated with these Bomb-Ball Pokémon and a man named Poncho had a job of removing them.

In What You Seed is What You Get, an Electrode that was painted like a watermelon was guarding a patch of Watmel Berries.

In Pinch Healing, Jessie unintentionally and indirectly caused an Electrode to fall and explode on a bus that a Poké-sitter was driving.

In the manga
In the Pokémon Special manga
Electrode makes a cameo aboard the S.S. Anne in Danger: High Voltorb as one of Lt. Surge's Pokémon ready to attack Red. Lt. Surge also possesses a cannon capable of firing Electrode at high speeds to attack, supplied by Team Rocket technology. Since the disbandment of Team Rocket at the end of 7, Lt. Surge is technically no longer a member, and it is unconfirmed if he still possesses the weaponry.

The Team Rocket grunts use a Voltorb and an Electrode to attack Yellow in the volume with the S.S. Anne. <!--Does anyone know which volume this is?-->

Eusine, as seen in 10, possesses an Electrode as well, allowing him to travel over large distances by riding it. Eusine's Electrode apparently uses Magnet Rise to suspend itself in mid-air.

In the TCG
Electrode (TCG)

Other appearances
Super Smash Bros./Melee/Brawl
In the original Smash Bros. Electrode would appear from the doorway atop the Silph Co. building on the Saffron City stage and use Explosion, damaging any players near it. In the sequels, it would be released randomly from a Poké Ball. When released, Electrode will pause for a few seconds before using Explosion. It can be picked up and thrown, though this is risky as Electrode will hurt everyone near it, including the player who threw the Poké Ball. Electrode functions in Brawl in much the same way as in Melee, however, sometimes, it will fail to explode. Electrode will however explode after a short time it fails.

Melee trophy information
Electrode, an electric Ball Pokémon, is the evolved form of Voltorb. It has the tendency to explode with even the slightest provocation, which has earned it the nickname "Wrecking Ball". Electrode is the quickest Pokémon found to date, and its distinctive white-over-red coloring is the opposite of Voltorb's.
*Up through Generation II, Electrode had the highest base Speed of any Pokémon.
Origin
It seems to be based upon the concept of a living Poké Ball, and is often mistaken for one.
Name origin
An electrode is a device through which electrical current passes. Considering Electrode's tendency to selfdestruct, it might also be a combination of electric and explode. Its Japanese name is probably a combination of 丸 maru, circle, and mine, as in landmine.

A vitamin is a type of item from the Pokémon games. They are used to boost the stats of a trainer's Pokémon.

In Generation I and Generation II games, vitamins increased a stat by a single point, with a maximum of ten of each vitamin which could be given to a Pokémon. However, in Generation III and beyond, stats were calculated with the system of effort values, and so instead vitamins give a Pokémon 10 EV points to a stat, and a Pokémon can have vitamins until the EV value reaches 100.

The two PP-raising vitamins do not work in the same way, since instead of raising a stat they raise the PP value of one of the Pokémon's moves. Rare Candy is also an exception to this, since it instead raises the Pokémon's level by one. None of the three can be bought at Poké Marts and must be found instead. However, they are still considered vitamins.

Most are named after real minerals and organic compounds important to a body's health.

Types of vitamins
HP Up
HP Up raises the HP stat. It is available at the Celadon Department Store, Goldenrod Department Store, Lilycove Department Store, Veilstone Department Store, and at the Vitamin Guru's stand in Slateport City for PDollar9800. Sometimes, the Vitamin Guru will have a sale and reduce the HP Up's price to PDollar4900. It can also be purchased at the Battle Frontier and Battle Park for 1 BP.

Protein
Protein raises the Attack stat. It is available at the Celadon Department Store, Goldenrod Department Store, Lilycove Department Store, Veilstone Department Store, and at the Vitamin Guru's stand in Slateport City for PDollar9800. Sometimes, the Vitamin Guru will have a sale and reduce the Protein's price to PDollar4900. It can also be purchased at the Battle Frontier and Battle Park for 1 BP.

In the real world, protein is important for the strength and development of muscles. The stronger muscles are probably what increases the Pokémon's Attack.

Iron
Iron raises the Defense stat. It is available at the Celadon Department Store, Goldenrod Department Store, Lilycove Department Store, Veilstone Department Store, and at the Vitamin Guru's stand in Slateport City for PDollar9800. Sometimes, the Vitamin Guru will have a sale and reduce the Iron's price to PDollar4900. It can also be purchased at the Battle Frontier and Battle Park for 1 BP.

In the real world, iron is mostly used to create several important proteins. It was probably chosen because iron is a hard metal, and thus easy to associate with Defense, much like Steel Pokémon.

Calcium
Calcium raises the Special Attack stat in Generation III and beyond, both Special Attack and Special Defense in Generation II or just the Special stat in Generation I. It is available at the Celadon Department Store, Goldenrod Department Store, Lilycove Department Store, Veilstone Department Store, and at the Vitamin Guru's stand in Slateport City for PDollar9800. Sometimes, the Vitamin Guru will have a sale and reduce the Calcium's price to PDollar4900. It can also be purchased at the Battle Frontier and Battle Park for 1 BP.

In the real world, calcium is important for the strength and development of bones and teeth.

Zinc
Zinc raises the Special Defense stat. It was introduced in Generation III when the stat was finally split off from the Special Attack stat; prior to that, Calcium would raise both Special Attack and Special Defense. It is available at the Celadon Department Store, Lilycove Department Store, Veilstone Department Store, and at the Vitamin Guru's stand in Slateport City for PDollar9800. Sometimes, the Vitamin Guru will have a sale and reduce the Zinc's price to PDollar4900. It can also be purchased at the Battle Frontier and Battle Park for 1 BP.

In the real world, zinc is used to create a large number of important proteins, helping the body survive and function, which is probably why it raises Special Defense.

Carbos
Carbos raises the Speed stat. It is available at the Celadon Department Store, Goldenrod Department Store, Lilycove Department Store, Veilstone Department Store, and at the Vitamin Guru's stand in Slateport City for PDollar9800. Sometimes, the Vitamin Guru will have a sale and reduce the Carbos's price to PDollar4900. It can also be purchased at the Battle Frontier and Battle Park for 1 BP.

In the real world, carbohydrates are used as energy in the body. The increased amount of energy is probably what boosts the Pokémon's Speed.

PP Up
One PP Up will raise a move's PP by 1/5 of the move's base PP. Up to three PP Ups can be used on a single move on a Pokémon. It can be won in the Jubilife TV daily lotto drawing if the last two numbers of a Pokémon's Trainer ID number match the drawn number.

PP Max
One PP Max has the same effect as three PP Ups.

Rare Candy
A Rare Candy is packed with so many nutrients that it will raise a Pokémon's level by one. A Pokémon can have any number of these until it reaches level 100, with the exception of glitch Pokémon like Missingno. Due to its effect and overall rarity, Rare Candy is often the subject of item duplication cheats. In fact, the most common item duplication cheat is called the Rare Candy cheat.

Unlike a normal level up, a level up by Rare Candy does not factor in EVs when calculating the new stats, resulting in weaker stats for that level. Therefore, it is usually considered best to use a Rare Candy only after the Pokémon has maxed out its EVs.

In the real world, candy is almost entirely composed of sugar, a very quickly burning energy source. Therefore, when a Pokémon eats a Rare Candy, it is possible that the fast energy rush allows the Pokémon to have a brief growth spurt without gaining as much strength as it could.

In Generation II, a player could create Rare Candies by attaching a plain Berry to a Shuckle. Over time, the berry would become Berry Juice. If left attached to Shuckle even longer, it would become a Rare Candy.

In Generation III, Pokemon with the "Pickup" ability can sometimes obtain Rare Candies after battle.

In the TCG, the EX Sandstorm card can be used to evolve Basic Pokémon straight to their Stage 2 form, entirely skipping the Stage 1 card. For more information on Rare Candy's usage in the TCG, see Rare Candy.
