Some Bulbapedia members have formed a [[Bulbapedia:Project|project]] to better organize efforts to write and improve articles about '''Pokémon species'''. If you would like to help, please inquire on the [[{{NAMESPACE}} talk:{{PAGENAME}}|talk page]] or the [http://bmgf.bulbagarden.net/forumdisplay.php?f=195 Bulbapedia forum] and see the [[{{NAMESPACE}}:{{PAGENAME}}/To-do list]].
==Project Pokédex==
===Scope and aims===
'''Project Pokédex''' covers all articles about Pokémon species. Its goal is to produce the most comprehensive database on all Pokémon, from basic information on to the most technical aspects possible. It will also encompass any Pokémon Trading Card Game information, any relevant Anime information, and any other canon information which is relevant.
===Structure===
The best example articles for structure are {{p|Bulbasaur}}, {{p|Charmander}}, and {{p|Squirtle}}.

The Pokémon species articles are increasingly complex. However, to keep articles organized, the names, order and content of the sections should be according to the model below.

'''Refer to this model frequently when adding sections to a Pokémon species article, as the names, order and content of sections are all being standardized in all species articles. If you would like to update the model, please do so with regard to both the flow of the article and the standards set forth in Bulbapedia's {{bp|manual of style}}. Please consult other participants of the project on the talk page before making major changes to the model, particularly any regrouping or reorganizing of categories.'''

====Article model====

=====Full=====
The article should start off with the [[Template:PokémonPrevNext]] bar, followed by the Pokémon Infobox, followed by a general description of the Pokémon, including any special points (such as if it's a starter Pokémon in any games), a brief description of its abilities, and levels or ways in which the Pokémon evolves.

After this, it can be broken into three sections: general information, game statistics, and other information. Note that it is not broken down into these three sections within the articles themselves. Also note that the text for sections should not be indented within the text editor - it is merely indented here to aid in showing the hierarchy of sections.

'''General information'''
----

'''<nowiki>==Biology==</nowiki>'''
<br>Information in these subsections '''must''' be derived from a canon source, such as the Pokédex entries or the Pokémon anime. '''All speculative information will be removed.'''<br>
:'''<nowiki>===Physiology===</nowiki>'''
:A description of the Pokémon's physical structure, possible related Pokémon based on similarities, and any physical adaptations the Pokémon has made to its surroundings. Physical variations among members or groups of the species can also be noted here.
::'''<nowiki>====Gender differences====</nowiki>'''
::Any notable difference between males and females in the species, as one would note by comparing the Diamond and Pearl sprites. Alternate gender counterparts, such as with the two genders of Nidoran, are also linked to in this section.
::'''<nowiki>====Special abilities====</nowiki>'''
::A description of any unusual or elemental abilities the Pokémon often displays, such as those related to its elemental type. This is not a place for listing its [[ability]], despite the name; the ability should only be mentioned if it is relevant to this topic.
:'''<nowiki>===Behavior===</nowiki>'''
:A description of the Pokémon's behavior, both in the wild and after being captured.
:'''<nowiki>===Habitat===</nowiki>'''
:A description of regions where the Pokémon is commonly found.
:'''<nowiki>===Diet===</nowiki>'''
:'''<nowiki>''Main article: [[Pokémon food]]''</nowiki>'''
:All articles should link to the Pokémon food article rather than detail diet characteristics considered universal among Pokémon. Instead, this section should contain a description of any notable or unusual points about the Pokémon's diet. Use <nowiki>{{main|Pokémon food}}</nowiki> for this part.
'''<nowiki>==In the anime==</nowiki>'''
<br>Only added if the Pokémon appears in the anime. Please link to the Pokémon anime article at the start of this section.
<br>First, any details about the Pokémon species exclusive to the anime. Then, any episodes, movies, and specials from the Pokémon anime where the Pokémon has made an appearance, and a detailed description of their importance and role. For recurring Pokémon, only their first appearance, last appearance, and any particularly important appearances should be listed, with links to the specific Pokémon's article where further details can be found. Appearances should be listed chronologically, regardless of importance.<br>
'''<nowiki>==In the manga==</nowiki>'''
<br>Only added if the Pokémon appears in a manga series.
<br>This section should be broken down by manga series, divided and listed in the order of Pokémon Special, Electric Tale of Pikachu, Pokémon PiPiPi Adventure, Pokémon Chamo-Chamo ☆ Pretty ♪, and then any other Pokémon manga.
<br>For each series: Please link to the series in the subsection header. First, any details about the Pokémon species exclusive to that manga series. Then, volumes of Pokémon manga in which the Pokémon has made an appearance, and a detailed description of their importance and role. For recurring Pokémon, only their first appearance, last appearance, and any particularly important appearances should be listed, with links to the specific Pokémon's article where further details can be found. Appearances should be listed chronologically, regardless of importance.<br>
'''<nowiki>==In the TCG==</nowiki>'''
<br>Only added if the Pokémon appears in the TCG. Please link to the Pokémon Trading Card Game article at the start of this section.
<br>All cards in the TCG featuring members of the Pokémon species. Details universal to all of the Pokémon's cards may be added, but essentially, this section should be more or less a list with links to the cards' articles themselves. (To expand said card articles, please see the {{bp|Project TCG}}.)<br>
'''<nowiki>==In the TFG==</nowiki>'''
<br>Only added if the Pokémon appears in the TFG. Please link to the Pokémon Trading Figure Game article at the start of this section.
<br>All figures in the TFG featuring members of the Pokémon species. Details universal to all of the Pokémon's figures may be added, but essentially, this section should be more or less a list with links to the figures' articles themselves. (To expand said figure articles, please see the {{bp|Project TFG}}.)<br>
'''<nowiki>==Other appearances==</nowiki>'''
<br>Places where the Pokémon has been featured in non-Pokémon canon, such as the Super Smash Bros. series. Only added if the Pokémon appears outside of canon. If there is an article on the series in Bulbapedia, please link to it in the subsection header. Otherwise, please link to the appropriate article on Wikipedia in the subsection header.
Please link to all locations named in the table, since articles will have the specific rates of appearance for the area. Named locations are listed first in order of appearance in the game, followed by Routes in numerical order with each number linking to the appropriate route. ====Tables within the articles====
Basic formatting for a Pokémon species article table is as follows:

<nowiki>{| border="1" style="border: 1px solid #999; border-collapse: collapse; background: white; margin: auto;" cellspacing="1" cellpadding="2"</nowiki>
<br>|- style="background: #COLOR;"
<br>! Heading
<br>! Heading
<br>|-
<br>| Content
<br>| Content
<br>|}

Replace the "COLOR" with the template for the color code of the Pokémon's primary type - or, if their primary type is Normal and they have a secondary type, the color code of the Pokémon's secondary type. The template's name is the type name and "color". For example, <nowiki>{{grass color}}</nowiki> is the template for a Grass-type Pokémon.

===Goals===
# Expand Pokémon pages to have at least a paragraph of information about a Pokémon, preferably background information on that Pokémon. The {{p|Bulbasaur}} page is a good example of a simple introduction paragraph.
# Add all locations in all games, including the side games ([[Pokémon Snap]], [[Pokémon Pinball]], [[Pokémon Pinball: Ruby/Sapphire]], [[Pokémon Mystery Dungeon]], [[Pokémon Trozei!]], and [[Pokémon Ranger]], to name some of the more important ones).
# Add all movelists.
# Add [[Pokédex]] text info from games, where applicable.
# Add Biology information to each Pokémon species article.
# Add information on any appearances in the anime, including the specific episodes.
# Add information on any appearances in all manga, including the series and volume.
# List all released cards of the Pokémon.
</pre>
Rarity and Area refer to how common or uncommon a Pokémon is. What precedes them are the initials of the versions that the specific instance applies to, [[Pokémon Red and Blue Versions|RB]], [[Pokémon Yellow Version|Y]], [[Pokémon Gold and Silver Versions|GS]], [[Pokémon Crystal Version|C]], [[Pokémon Ruby and Sapphire Versions|RS]], [[Pokémon Emerald Version|E]], [[Pokémon FireRed and LeafGreen Versions|FRLG]], [[Pokémon Colosseum|Colo]], [[Pokémon XD: Gale of Darkness|XD]], [[Pokémon Diamond and Pearl Versions|DP]], [[Pokémon Platinum Version|Pt]], [[Pokémon HeartGold and SoulSilver Versions|HGSS]]. For example, whatever is entered into the frlgarea should be where the Pokémon can be found in FireRed and LeafGreen. Likewise, frlgrarity should be how rare the Pokémon is in FireRed and LeafGreen. If only one is found, such as is the case with {{p|Mewtwo}}, put "One". If it can only be found through evolution, put "None" and for the area prompt put "[[Evolution|Evolve]] (pre-evolution)", replacing (pre-evolution) with the name of the Pokémon it evolves from. Likewise, if it is only available through breeding, put "None" and in the area prompt put "[[Pokémon breeding|Breed]] (evolutions)", replacing (evolutions) with the Pokémon that must produce the egg.

Rarity defaults to "None", Area defaults to "[[Trade]]". Therefore, if it can only be found through [[Pal Park]] in Diamond and Pearl, this must be entered in the dparea prompt. If a Pokémon is only available in one of a pair of versions, put the version it is available in in parentheses after the area.
==Biology==
===Physiology===
Wingull is a small, white seagull-like Pokémon. Oddly, Wingull’s head appears to consitute a considerable portion of its body, due to seemingly not possessing a neck or similar distinction. Its eyes are thin, dark, and simplistic in form, and there are two small, pointed and somewhat earlike extensions on its head. Wingull’s long, orange, hooked beak is tipped with black. Wingull’s wings are notable for their long, thin shape, usually outstretched, and blue stripes. Wingull’s three tailfeathers, also tipped with blue, are proportionally short and in a fan-like arrangement. As Wingull is often airborne, and because its orange, two-toed feet are held close to the body in flight and otherwise small, they are an inconspicuous detail.
==Trivia==
*Wingull, along with {{p|Surskit}} and {{p|Magikarp}}, is one of the few {{type2|Water}} Pokémon that cannot learn {{m|Surf}}.
**Along with its evolution {{P|Pelipper}}, Wingull is one of the only two Water-type Pokémon able to learn {{m|Fly}}.
*Wingull is one of fourteen Pokémon that one could collect [[Meister|foreign Pokédex entries]] for in {{game|Diamond and Pearl|s}}.
===Origin===
Wingull appears to be derived from a {{wp|seagull}}, but the way it just floats on air currents more closely resembles the {{wp|albatross}}.
====Name origin====
Wingull's name is a combination of ''wing'' and (sea)''{{wp|gull}}''.

''Camome'' is a corruption of the Japanese word for seagull, 鴎 ''kamome'', on which Wingull is based.
'''Candice''' (Japanese: '''スズナ''' ''Suzuna'') is the [[Gym Leader]] of [[Snowpoint City]]'s [[Gym]], known officially as the [[Snowpoint Gym]]. She hands out the [[Badge#Icicle Badge|Icicle Badge]] to [[Pokémon Trainer|Trainers]] who defeat her. She specializes in {{type2|Ice}} [[Pokémon]].

==In the games==
Candice uses {{type2|Ice}} Pokémon in her battles. Trainers who defeat her will receive the [[Icicle Badge]], {{TM|72|Avalanche}}, and will be able to use {{m|Rock Climb}} outside of battle. Candice teaches that before battling with Pokémon, a person needs to befriend them first. Candice has an interest in fashion and romance as well as Pokémon, and believes a person should put all their focus into whatever they do. She sometimes muses that she acts the opposite of the way people would expect a Ice-type Gym Leader to behave - warm and friendly instead of [[Pryce|cold and distant]]. She also seems to enjoy talking in third person.

She later allows the player entry into the [[Snowpoint Temple]], and, in {{v2|Platinum}}, will appear occasionally for rematches at the [[Battleground]].

In Platinum, [[Maylene]] mentions in Snowpoint's [[Pokémon Center]] that she admires Candice for being studious. She also mentions that Candice wanted to practice against her to learn about the {{type|Fighting}} because of it being a weakness of {{type|Ice}} Pokémon.
===Quotes===
'''[[Snowpoint Gym]]'''
*Before battle
:''"You want to challenge Candice? Sure thing! I was waiting for someone tough! But I should tell you, I'm tough because I know how to focus. Pokémon, fashion, romance... It's all about focus! I'll show you just what I mean. Get ready to lose!"''

*When sending out last Pokémon
:''"I'm going to break the ice and bring out my last-resort Pokémon!"''

*During battle
:''"I can sense your will to win, but I promise you I'm not about to lose!"''

*When defeated
:''"I must say, I've warmed up to you! I might even admire you a little."''

*After being defeated
:''"Wow! you are great! You've earned my respect! I think your focus and will bowled us over totally. Oh, that's right! I'm supposed to give you this!"''

:''"Do you think I should try to act more like an Ice-type Gym Leader? Like, do you think I should be more cool and distant? That sort of thing I have trouble with."''

'''[[Snowpoint Temple]]'''
:''"It's OK! You can let that person in. Cynthia sent word to me. You're working on a Pokédex, aren't you? There should be many rare Pokémon in the temple. Enjoy your exploring!"''

'''[[Villa]]'''
:''"What is it, Maylene? Did you want some Accessories? I'll give you some of my favorites."'' (to Maylene)

:''"Gee, I wouldn't know. That's a tough question. ...Maybe we should ask Gardenia sometime."'' (to Maylene)
Candice made her debut appearance in ''[[DP126|Classroom Training!]]'' where she was revealed to be a teacher in [[Snowpoint City]]'s Trainers' School. She is also a childhood friend of [[Zoey]] and calls her by the nickname, "Zo-Zo" (Japanese: ''Nozotchi'').

Ash battled her in ''[[DP127|Sliding Into Seventh!]]'', where he defeated her and earned the {{badge|Icicle}}. She also appeared in ''[[DP128|A Pyramiding Rage!]]''. [[Paul]] challenged her to a Gym battle in ''[[DP128|A Pyramiding Rage!]]'' where it took place off-screen between the aforementioned episode and ''[[DP131|Pedal to the Mettle!]]''. It is unknown who was the victor.

She made another appearance in ''[[DP155|Double-Time Battle Training!]]'' where she watches Zoey win the Brussel Town Contest, and her 5th Contest Ribbon. She helps Dawn prepare for the Daybreak Contest with Zoey. In ''[[DP161|Yes, in Dee Dee It's Dawn!]]'' she and Zoey were watching Dawn's performance on TV.

She also made another brief cameo in [[DP177]] watching {{an|Dawn}} and Zoey compete in the [[Sinnoh Grand Festival]] on television.
==Trivia==
* Even though Candice lives in the snowy north of Sinnoh, the only protection she seemingly has from the weather is the sweater tied around her waist and her long socks.
* Candice is the only Ice-type specialist that doesn't use a {{type2|Water}} Pokémon.
* In {{game|Diamond and Pearl|s}}, Candice is the only Sinnoh [[Gym Leader]] to use two Pokémon within the same [[evolution|evolutionary line]] on her team ({{p|Snover}} and {{p|Abomasnow}}).
* All of Candice's Diamond and Pearl team are Pokémon that have [[gender differences]]. This would also be true for her Platinum team; however, as {{p|Froslass}} is a female-only Pokémon, it cannot have gender differences.
* The highest-leveled Pokémon in Candice's team differs between every battle.
* In {{v2|Platinum}}, Candice is the only Gym Leader whose [[Battleground]] rematch team contains only Pokémon which are in the [[List of Pokémon by Sinnoh Pokédex number|Sinnoh Dex]].
** Her Battleground team, with the exception of Abomasnow, consists entirely of Generation IV evolutions of Pokémon of previous generations.
* Candice is the only female Gym Leader whose gym design was not changed in Platinum. The snowball positions were changed slightly, however.
* Candice's speaking of herself in the third person is somewhat a mistranslation: in Japanese, a person using their own name in place of "I" indicates femininity, whereas in English it is typically considered {{wp|illeism}}.
'''Celebi''' ([[List of Japanese Pokémon names|Japanese]]: '''セレビィ''' ''Celebi'') is a dual-type {{2t|Psychic|Grass}} [[legendary Pokémon]].

It is not known to evolve into or from any other Pokémon.

Celebi is the last Pokémon in the [[List of Pokémon by Johto Pokédex number|Johto Pokédex]] and [[List of Pokémon by Hoenn Pokédex number|Hoenn Pokédex]], although in the latter, Celebi is not shown.

==Biology==
===Physiology===
Celebi is a green fairy-like creature. Celebi has round toe-less feet, three-fingered hands, and clear wings on its back. Celebi has a round head that comes to a point and sticks upward in the back, large baby-blue eyes, similar to that of {{p|Mew}}, with deep black rings around them, and a pair of green antennae that are tipped blue.

====Gender differences====
Celebi is genderless, but a [[Shiny Pokémon|shiny]] one is referred to as female in [[Pokémon Mystery Dungeon: Explorers of Time and Explorers of Darkness]].

====Special abilities====
Celebi's main ability is the power to travel through time. Celebi also can restore plants to perfect health (an ability that is also accredited to {{p|Meganium}}). Celebi mainly attacks with surprisingly powerful {{t|Grass}} and {{t|Psychic}} attacks.

===Behavior===
Celebi, like {{p|Mew}}, is a very playful species in general. Celebi are extremely powerful despite their small size, another trait they have in common with Mew. Celebi also can be very timid, not wanting to show themselves despite their power. Although multiple Celebi have been seen at one time, it is unknown if they are different individuals or the same Celebi from different time periods. Therefore, it is virtually impossible to determine exactly how many Celebi exist. Celebi also is very protective of itself, others and its home. For this reason, it has been referred to by some as a guardian of the forest.

===Habitat===
[[Image:Forest.gif|right|frame|{{DL|List of Pokémon by habitat|Forest Pokémon}}]]
Because Celebi travels through time, it may inhabit many places. However, Celebi is generally associated with forests. Because of this, it is known as the spirit and voice of the forest.

===Diet===
{{main|Pokémon food}}
Celebi feed on berries.

==In the anime==
[[File:Celebi anime.png|right|thumb|250px|Celebi in the anime]]
===Major appearances===
====[[Celebi (movie 4)]]====
Celebi first appeared in ''[[M04|Celebi: Voice of the Forest]]''. A Pokémon hunter was after it and Celebi traveled 40 years into future to escape from him, taking young [[Sam]] along with it accidentally. The [[Iron-Masked Marauder]] eventually captured the time traveling Pokémon in a [[Dark Ball]] and used it to destroy the forest. {{Ash}} and Sammy managed to snap Celebi out of the Iron Masked Marauder's control.

====Other====
Celebi also made an appearance in [[Pokémon Chronicles]]. In ''[[SS013|Celebi and Joy]]'', Celebi took [[Ritchie]] back in time to help stop the destruction of a [[Pokémon Center]].

In ''[[AG155|The Green Guardian]]'', the Pokémon Ranger [[Solana]] accompanied {{Ash}} and {{ashfr|friends}} in helping the Pokémon.

A Celebi will appear in the thirteenth Pokémon movie, ''[[M13|Ruler of Illusions: Zoroark]]''. Due to it appearing on the promotional poster, it is likely that it will have a central role, and will be appearing alongside {{p|Entei}}, {{p|Raikou}}, and {{p|Suicune}}.

===Minor appearances===
A Celebi appeared in the [[boss fantasy]] of ''[[DP092|A Lean Mean Team Rocket Machine]]''.

Celebi makes a cameo appearance in the beginning of ''[[M10|The Rise of Darkrai]]''.

A Celebi appeared in another fantasy in ''[[DP143|An Egg Scramble!]]''.
==In the manga==
In [[Pokémon Adventures]], [[Pryce]] aimed to capture Celebi and use its time-traveling powers to save his two {{p|Lapras}}, which he had lost years ago prior to the start of the GSC saga. He failed numerous times throughout his reign (lacking a [[GS Ball]] that would allow him to properly capture it), and would injure himself on each day of the month in which Celebi would show itself in the Ilex shrine, so {{adv|Green}} and {{adv|Silver}} took this opportunity to steal his [[Rainbow Wing]] and [[Silver Wing]] items and escape.

Near the end of the RS Saga, {{adv|Ruby}} is revealed to have a Celebi. He explains that due to the lack of information he had on it, he rarely uses Celebi at all. Celebi was used to retrieve the Red and Blue Orbs from [[Maxie]] and [[Archie]], to prevent them from ever controlling {{p|Groudon}} and {{p|Kyogre}} again. Then, it revived [[Norman]], [[Steven Stone|Steven]], and [[Magma Admin Courtney|Courtney]] by sending them through an altered future. It left Ruby's side right afterwards, and upon waking up two days later and glancing into the now-empty Pokéball that once contained the time-traveling Pokémon, Ruby realizes that this was the reason Celebi was with him the whole time.
[[Image:Celebi Brawl.jpg|right|thumb|Celebi in [[Super Smash Bros. Brawl]]]]
===[[Super Smash Bros. Melee]]/[[Super Smash Bros. Brawl|Brawl]]===
When a [[Poké Ball]] is thrown, there is a 1 in 251 chance of Celebi appearing after all these requirements have been fulfilled:
*Unlock all 25 characters
*Unlock all 29 stages
*Beat all 51 events
*Unlock the score display (by reaching 5000 KOs.)
It does not affect the battle but the thrower of the [[Poké Ball]] will earn a bonus and trophy of Celebi.

Celebi returns as a rare Pokémon in Brawl as well; the chance of it appearing is decreased to 1 in 493. Like the other "secret" Pokémon, it drops rare items instead of just {{m|Fly|flying}} away. In Celebi's case, the items are Trophies.
==Game data==
===NPC appearances===
{{spoilers}}
*[[Pokémon Ranger (game)|Pokémon Ranger]]: Celebi is in a [[Ranger Net]] mission. In the mission, the player must capture the celebi to save it from the [[Go-Rock Squad]]. It is found wandering in [[Lyra Forest]].
*[[Pokémon Mystery Dungeon: Explorers of Time and Explorers of Darkness]]: [[Celebi (Explorers of Time, Darkness, and Sky)|A shiny Celebi]] is a supporting protagonist in the main storyline. When the player and partner are sent to the future by {{mdc|Dusknoir|2}}, the player, partner, and {{mdc|Grovyle|2}} work together to get back to the past. Celebi was the Pokémon who sent Grovyle to the past before, and the trio receive her help to go back again.
*[[Pokémon Ranger: Locus of Light]]: Celebi is the first boss of the game and a main Pokémon in the storyline. It has the power to time travel and can send the player (without their Ukulele {{p|Pichu}}) into the past. It can also send specific Pokémon to the present if the player uses the correct [[Ranger Signs]].

==Trivia==
* Celebi was the only Pokémon of the 100 [[Generation II]] Pokémon that wasn't used in the [[Johto]] [[Pokérap GS|Pokérap]].
* In a deleted scene of the movie ''{{wp|Austin Powers in Goldmember}},'' a person in a Celebi suit can be seen dancing.
* Celebi is notably the hardest Pokémon to obtain, as there are very few ways to legitimately obtain one outside of Japan.
* Celebi has the most weaknesses of all Pokémon, with seven. It shares this with {{p|Exeggcute}}, {{p|Exeggutor}}, {{p|Snover}}, and {{p|Abomasnow}}, all of which are part {{type2|Grass}}.
* Unlike most [[Legendary Pokémon|legendaries]], Celebi needs only 1,059,860 Exp. to get to level 100, whereas others need 1,250,000. It shares this trait with {{p|Mew}} and {{p|Shaymin}}.
* During the main story of [[Pokémon Mystery Dungeon: Explorers of Time and Explorers of Darkness]], {{mdc|Celebi|2}} is referred to as a female, while it is genderless in the main series.
* A 2008 [http://www.pokebeach.com/news/0708/second-pokemon-interview-with-masamitsu-hidaka-many-interesting-points interview] done with [[Masamitsu Hidaka]] by the webmaster of [[PokéBeach]] revealed that the [[GS Ball]] was initially meant to contain a Celebi that would be used in a story arc throughout the Johto series. This idea, however, was shelved, and {{OBP|Celebi|movie 4}} became a co-star of ''[[M04|Celebi: Voice of the Forest]]'' with {{p|Suicune}}.
* Celebi's number in the [[National Pokédex]] and the [[List of Pokémon by New Pokédex number|New Pokédex]] are the same: 251. This makes it one of fifteen Pokémon to have the same numbers in more than one [[Pokédex]]-like listing. The other fourteen are all members of the {{p|Bulbasaur}}, {{p|Ralts}}, {{p|Goldeen}}, and {{p|Beldum}} evolutionary families and the [[legendary beasts]].
* Celebi is the mascot of [[Serebii.net]]. (Serebii being Celebi's Japanese name.)

===Origin===
It may be based on a {{wp|fairy}} or {{wp|dryad}}.
====Name origin====
There are many theories as to the origin of Celebi's name. It may be a combination of ''{{wp|celestial}}'' and ''being'', or it may be a combination of the English ''serenity'' and the Japanese ''bii'', which translates to ''beautiful''.

There is also the possibility its name originates from "cerebral", referring to its psychic powers.
'''Beldum''' ([[List of Japanese Pokémon names|Japanese]]: '''ダンバル''' ''Dumbber'') is a dual-type {{2t|Steel|Psychic}} Pokémon.

It [[Evolution|evolves]] into {{p|Metang}} starting at [[level]] 20, who evolves into {{p|Metagross}} starting at [[level]] 45.

==Biology==
===Physiology===
Beldum is a robotic lifeform that has a long body with a set of claws sticking out of its rear end. It has one large red eye in the center of its nearly-round head, which is set into a ball-and-socket joint at its front end. It has a short crest above its head, projecting from its body. Even though Beldum and its evolved forms are mechanical creatures, they still have emotions, the need to eat and a way of reproducing. Beldum has been said to be related to {{p|Magnemite}} due to the fact that both of them are partially Steel-type that create electromagnetic waves to float in the air, and probably due to the fact that they evolve in a similar fashion, it takes two Beldum to evolve into a Metang and two Metang to evolve into a Metagross.

====Gender differences====
This Pokémon is genderless.

====Special abilities====
Beldum's body is magnetised, and it uses magnetism to move, communicate, and control its attacks. It is said to be related to Magnemite, but Beldum's magnetism focuses on {{t|Psychic}} moves instead of {{t|Electric}} moves. Beldum's skills in battle are extremely limited as it is only capable of using {{m|Take Down}}.

===Behavior===
Beldum sometimes gather in swarms, communicating with each other telepathically.

===Habitat===
[[Image:Roughterrain.gif|right|frame|{{DL|List of Pokémon by habitat|Rough-terrain Pokémon}}]]
Beldum are very scarce in the wild, but they do tend to inhabit areas with rugged terrain.
Also, when they sleep, they anchor themselves to a cliff using their hooks.

==Trivia==
*Beldum's number in the [[List of Pokémon by Hoenn Pokédex number|Hoenn Pokédex]] and the [[List of Pokémon by Fiore Browser number|Fiore Browser]] is the same: 190. This makes it one of thirteen Pokémon (only five evolution families) to have the same numbers in more than one [[Pokédex]]-like listing.
* Beldum, along with its evolved forms, are the only non-legendary Pokémon to have a catch rate of 3, which is the lowest possible. In [[Generation III]], this low catch rate would never take effect, unless the player is [[cheating]] or encountering a {{p|Ditto}} that transforms into Beldum. However, in [[Generation IV]], Beldum can be found as a swarm on {{rt|228}}, making Beldum extremely difficult to capture due to its self-damaging move ({{m|Take Down}}) and the everlasting {{m|Sandstorm}}, which hurts all but {{t|Steel}}-, {{t|Rock}}-, and {{type2|Ground}}s for 1/16 of their health every turn.
* Up until {{game|Platinum}}, Beldum could not learn any move except {{m|Take Down}} and incidentally could not damage {{type2|Ghost}} Pokémon outside of {{m|Struggle}}.
** All damaging [[move tutor|tutor moves]] Beldum can learn are head-based attacks with {{status|flinch|flinch}} as a secondary effect.
* Despite depictions of Beldum levitating in the {{pkmn|anime}} and Pokédex entries noting that they are able to float through the air by employing powerful electromagnetic waves, Beldum does not have the ability {{a|Levitate}}. However, as of [[Generation IV]], Beldum's evolution {{p|Metang}} can learn {{m|Magnet Rise}} which simulates Levitate for a short period of time.
* Beldum's evolutionary family evolves into their next-stage forms the earliest of all the [[Pseudo-legendary|pseudo-legendaries]] - Beldum into {{p|Metang}} at level 20, and {{p|Metang}} into {{p|Metagross}} at level 45.

===Origin===
Beldum seems to be a magnetic robot based on a {{wp|dumbbell}}.
====Name origin====
Beldum's English and Japanese names are both derived from ''dumbbell'', a small weight used in weight training.
Beldum is also an anagram of ''dumbbell'', except there is only one b and l.

==In other languages==
*[[List of German Pokémon names|German]]: Tanhel - Anagram of ''Hantel'' (dumbbell).
