The Pretty Cure franchise also had a protagonist named Riko/Liko 7 years ago, and the wiki fandom page in fandom put this as the origin of the name
"Riko (リコ?) has no meaning in katakana but in kanji, it has two meanings. It can mean 'jasmine child' with the kanji 莉子 or 'truthful child' with 理子. It also resembles 利口な (rikou na), which is Japanese for "smart"", I think in the case of Pokemon Horizon means Jasmine child, because Most of the characters in Pokemon Scarlet and Pokemon Violet, except for the main characters, the japanese name are plant-based names. --Legarad87 (talk) 22:01, 28 April 2023 (UTC)

Charlie Charma (Japanese: アナアキ・チクワ Chikuwa Anaaki) is a recurring character who appeared in the Sun & Moon. He is a Malie City tour guide and also a Trainer residing in the local Kantonian Gym.

History
Charlie debuted in Drawn with the Wind!, where he was the tour guide during Ash and ashcl' two-day trip through Malie City. He first escorted them to the local Pokémon Center and had them change into Malie-style clothing before they toured Malie Garden. He pointed out some of the major landmarks before leaving them to explore the garden by themselves.

Charlie reappeared in Aiming for the Top Floor!, where he took the group to the Kantonian Gym. He and his fellow Kantonian Gym Trainers were shocked to learn that Ash was actually from the Kanto region. He explained the way the Kantonian Gym operates to everyone before allowing them to enter. Only Ash, Kiawe, and Lana reached Charlie's task, an obstacle course held on the fourth floor of the Gym. Ash and Kiawe advanced to the fifth and final floor, while Lana was unable to complete the obstacle course after Meltan's taste for metal led to the course's destruction.

Charlie later refereed Kiawe's, and then Ash's battles against Ryuki.

Character
Charlie maintains a ninja aesthetic because he, like his fellow Kantonian Gym Trainers, truly believes it is authentically Kantonian. He is an entertaining host, using concealed walls, disguises, and smoke bomb tricks to dazzle his tour groups. His knowledge of Malie City also helped the group navigate through their surroundings with ease and learn all about Malie culture.
}}

Trivia
* Charlie's arm and leg guards resemble actual chikuwa, a tube-shaped fish paste cake. Also, the symbol on his headband resembles a Pon de Ring doughnut.
* Charlie's headband is similar to those worn in Naruto.
** He also has the same kind of facial whiskers of the Naruto Uzumaki, and in the original version, ends most of his sentences with "datte yo", whereas Naruto's sentences sometimes end in "dattebayo", and has similar eyes to the side character Rock Lee.
* Charlie's ninja outfit is reminiscent of another ninja character, Sanpei, as well as the titular character of the manga and anime series Ninja Hattori-kun.
* CITV closed captions incorrectly refer to Charlie Charma as Charlie Charmer.
He is also the father of Brock, Forrest, and eight other children; and is married to Lola.

History
In A Family That Battles Together Stays Together!, Flint recalled that he first met Lola when she was a budding Trainer. He was impressed by her Poliwag's Hydro Pump during a battle against his Graveler. They went on to date for sometime, eventually got married, and had their ten children.

Flint was once the Pewter City Gym Leader, but he relinquished this role and abandoned his children to pursue his own ambitions of becoming a powerful Pokémon Trainer, though he had failed in this regard and couldn't bring himself to face Brock and his nine younger siblings in the wake of this failure. He instead decided to live a life as a hermit selling souvenir rocks for a living on the outskirts of Pewter City.

Ash and Misty first met Flint in Showdown in Pewter City, during which Ash bragged about his goal to become a Pokémon Master. In response, Flint told Ash that thinking he could defeat Brock, the Pewter City Gym Leader, was foolish.

After Ash's unsuccessful match against Brock, Flint talked with him about Brock. Flint went on to point out Brock's home life and the circumstances behind it. Flint then decided to help Ash in his Gym battle and hooked Pikachu to a hydroelectric dam to increase its strength. After Ash's rematch, Flint showed up and revealed himself to be Brock's father. As Brock wanted to travel with Ash, he left the Gym Leader position and the duty of being head of the family to Flint.

Brock returned home in A Family That Battles Together Stays Together! after traveling through Kanto and Johto with Ash, only to find Flint being neglectful of his duties as Gym Leader. Brock scolded Flint for not taking care of the Gym, and Flint explained that it was because Lola had recently returned and renovated the Gym into a Water one, much to his dismay. Flint took Brock back to the Gym to show him the renovations.

Lola and Flint had a rematch for the title of Gym Leader, which he lost. However, this rekindled their relationship and prompted them to try and remodel the Pewter Gym into a dual Rock/Water-type Gym, much to the disapproval of their children. Eventually, Brock was able to beat his mother and stop these plans. Flint went on to return to his role as Gym Leader, though Forrest was revealed to have taken over this role by SS025.

In Grating Spaces, Flint and Lola were sent on a plane trip by TRT, who were posing as Gym stylists and attempting to redecorate the Pewter Gym in a bid to take over the facility. Brock visited home and was shocked to see his parents' absences, and the Gym's latest renovation. When the pair returned from their trip, Brock scolded them for abandoning the children once again and informed them that they had fallen for one of Team Rocket's schemes.

In SS025, Flint returned from a holiday trip with his wife, and started supporting his son Forrest in his match against a Nurse Joy from the Pokémon Inspection Agency.

Character
Flint's passion for the Rock type has been passed on to his two eldest sons, Brock and Forrest. He continues to reminisce about the battles he had in his youth.

Flint dislikes confrontation and will attempt to keep to himself to avoid issues, such as Lola's extreme makeover of the Pewter Gym. Brock, on two occasions, had to give Flint some stern advice to help him to overcome this. Even so, Flint struggles with guilt and is consciously aware that he allowed his children to grow up without their parents, but is pleased with their resilience and ambitions.

Flint rekindled his relationship with Lola in A Family That Battles Together Stays Together!, after it had gone astray because of Lola's passionate uptake of certain hobbies. Lola brings out a softer side of Flint's personality, where he is shown to be happier and more easygoing in her presence. However, his affection for Lola also embarrasses his children. Flint also panders to Lola's dreams at the expense of his children's beliefs, to the point where he is fine with the Pewter Gym closing for good.
However, the type disadvantage and the mostly water-based battlefield gave Marill the advantage. Flint started with an Earthquake, which made it hard for Marill to navigate, but Golem was no match to Marill, who used Surf to sink Golem. As a result, Lola's Blastoise had to save it from drowning. Brock later used a hairdryer to help dry Golem off.
* In the English, Finnish and Castilian Spanish dubs, Flint in Grating Spaces! (in the Finnish dub also in Showdown in Pewter City) is voiced by the same voice actor who voices the narrator.
* In Pocket Monsters: The Animation, it implies that Flint is not Lola's only husband and may not actually be the father of some of Brock's siblings, as it mentioned that Lola "married again and again" to keep the gym due to each husband fleeing from their responsibilities, which also resulted in her having lots of kids.
* Flint's Japanese name could be from Yoshiharu Tsuge's manga, "The Incompetent Man".
Toren (Japanese: トリト Torito) is one of the main characters of The Power of Us. He is a Scientist at Fula City's Pokémon Research Pavilion.

History
Toren first appeared at the beginning of the movie, riding on a streetcar that also happened to have Ash, Risa, Callahan. Kellie, Mia and Harriet aboard. He was with his Chansey, reviewing paperwork for his upcoming presentation. He later dropped his papers on the street while trying to conduct a conversation on his phone and frantically tried to collect them, nervously turning away the concern of the people around him.

Later, Toren was trying to find a speaker for his research presentation when he saw Callahan's captivating storytelling on the streets of Fula City. He approached Callahan, who agreed to do the presentation for him if Toren helped him during the Pokémon Catch Race. Toren agreed, even lending Callahan his own Staryu. With Toren's help, Callahan was eventually able to win the competition. Toren was later given some papers by Harriet, only to spill some essence of Sweet Scent. This ended up causing a group of Pokémon to start following Harriet around, much to her annoyance. The next day, Callahan was delayed in getting to the presentation site after helping with the city's cleanup operation, requiring Toren to do the presentation by himself. This resulted in Callahan's underhanded tactics in winning the Pokémon Catch Race being exposed when he accidentally played a video of him giving Callahan advice.

Toren later helped heal Risa's Eevee, and accompanied them to the Pokémon Center, after it was injured in a stampede caused by TRT releasing a smoke bomb in the lab. The following day, a scent trail at the site of the stolen eternal flame led Ash's Pikachu, Ash Ketchum, and the others to the Research Pavilion and Toren's Smeargle. Toren quickly realized that some spilled ink from the other day was suspicious and investigated the eternal flame pedestal, where he used an ultraviolet light to show that an otherwise invisible trail of Smeargle ink was used in the theft. The scent trail led everyone to Margo, who soon confessed that she had stolen the eternal flame to protect Zeraora and used the ink in an attempt to go unnoticed.

Soon afterward, a mysterious plume of purple smoke appeared in the sky close by. Toren quickly realized that it was his Effect Spore solution, which Team Rocket had stolen. Well aware of the threat the toxic gas would have on Fula City and the Pokémon, Toren planned to produce a large volume of Natural Cure and rushed back to the Research Pavilion. With Ash's words in mind and his Chansey's support, Toren found his voice amongst his fellow Scientists and instructed them to help make up the Natural Cure solution. Unfortunately, the lab lost power and its entire Natural Cure supply because of a raging fire sparked by the Effect Spore. Toren came up with another solution and used Team Rocket's large pile of Lum Berries to make a new elixir.

With a car waiting from the office of Mayor Oliver, Toren rushed over to the abandoned power plant to spread the Lum Berry gas using the facility's large turbines. Toren reluctantly handed the elixir to Callahan and joined the Pokémon following Harriet as they pushed the starter turbine to move the larger wind turbine. Callahan managed to throw the Lum Berry solution onto the turbine blades and the air was soon cleared of the Effect Spore gas. Toren, Harriet, and Callahan rushed over to the stadium to assist the efforts to combat the fire. Toren remembered that the stadium had a sprinkler system, and he had Ash, Pikachu, and some other Electric Pokémon jump-start the generator. Risa managed to reach the eternal flame pedestal in time, and soon, Lugia arrived on the scene to put out the remaining fires. Toren later attended the Wind Festival's closing ceremony and released a lantern into the sky.

Character
Toren is incredibly timid and shy, fearing even the possibility of brief interactions with other people. Over the course of the movie, however, he learned to be more confident and found the strength to be more assertive for himself. Despite his debilitating shyness, Toren is still happy to assist other people, such as when he helped Callahan during the Pokémon Catch Race and then tried to help Harriet when Pokémon were following her around. Overall, in spite of his shyness, he cares greatly for the well-being of Pokémon, which some of his colleagues respect him for.
Blurb
<!--http://www.pokemon.com/us/pokemon-episodes/20_13-racing-to-a-big-event/-->
<i>Ash and Pikachu decide to join the Pokémon Pancake Race! The prize of a year’s supply of free pancakes catches Team Rocket’s interest, and Meowth builds a robot that looks like Bewear to enter the race. Nina, the defending champion, is competing with her Alolan Raichu, who quickly strikes up a rivalry with Pikachu.

Near the finish line, Pikachu and Raichu are neck and neck when Meowth’s robot comes blazing through—but then the real Bewear shows up to carry Team Rocket off. Principal Oak’s Komala is the surprise winner, and our heroes are in for another surprise when Lillie’s Egg hatches into a snowy Alolan Vulpix!</i>

Plot
incomplete plot
The episode begins with Ash, Pikachu and Rotom watching Mallow and Mallow practice together, confused at what the two are doing. Bounsweet is trying to balance a plate of stacked pancakes on its head without letting it fall over, and Mallow quiets Ash, saying she is concentrating. When Bounsweet successfully finishes its practice, Mallow explains that they are practicing for the upcoming annual Pokémon Pancake Race, and suggests that Ash join up as well, since the event is a lot of fun and akin to a festival.

Later, while Ash is getting supplies with Professor Kukui, they stop by a café for lunch. Kukui greets the waitress, Nina, remarking that the time for Pancake Race has arrived again after seeing a poster for the event. Ash recognizes Nina as the girl featured on the poster, and Nina introduces her Alolan Raichu to them. Kukui reveals that Nina and Raichu were the champions of the previous race. As Ash marvels Raichu's ability to float, Rotom explains Raichu's Alolan variant to him, pointing out that Alolan Raichu is also a Psychic Pokémon who uses its mind to manipulate electricity and levitate. As Nina and Raichu serve Ash's group two stacks of pancakes, Nina explains that the race's objective is to complete the course without dropping any of the stacked pancakes as failure to do so results in immediate disqualification. Ash asks Pikachu to join the race with him and it agrees, but quickly develops a rivalry with Raichu after Raichu snubs it.

Following lunch, Ash practices with Pikachu while assisted by Nina and her Raichu demonstrating. Nearby, TRT are relaxing on the beach when they see Nina's Raichu, prompting James to look up its information. While Raichu easily finishes the practice run, Pikachu is worn out from its efforts, but manages to keep its stack intact. As Nina and Ash discuss the upcoming race, the Team Rocket trio overhear this and recognize Nina and the race from a copy of the publicity poster they picked up. After learning that the winner of the race gets a year's supply of unlimited Alolan pancakes, Jessie becomes determined to enter and win.

The next day, an Announcer broadcasts the race throughout the islands, explaining the rules and racecourse, which is divided into three segments. Trainers will race with their stacks in the first leg while going over several obstacles, then rejoin their Pokémon in the second and pull them along using wagons, before leaving them behind in the third segment where the Pokémon will race alone. In addition to those who drop their pancakes, Pokémon who use attacks to disrupt their opponents will also be disqualified. ashfr all discuss the event, certain of their own victory, as Lillie cheers them on from the stands. Identified as the previous champion, Nina is briefly interviewed; she comments that she wants to have fun and stay safe, so winning isn't a priority for her.

As the race begins, the Trainers all rush ahead, ending up coming across a section of balance beams they have to walk over. Many of them end up falling off, including Sophocles, disqualifying them from the race. Sophocles is briefly startled by a group of Alolan Muk assigned to eat up the fallen pancakes and keep the course clean. The other competitors make it to the second part of the race with Ash, Nina and Jessie among those in the lead, but Jessie is frequently distracted by Jessie trying to attack Pikachu due to its grudge. From the stands, Rotom notices that Samson Oak is racing with a Komala and brings up its information. James wheels along a Bewear, revealed to be MTR and Jessie riding in a robot so they can speed along in the final leg; frustrated from his payload, James insinuates that Meowth and Wobbuffet have been putting on weight after living the good life in Bewear's den. Kiawe discovers that Kiawe is far too heavy to pull along on its wagon; after collapsing, Kiawe laments that he and his partner aren't meant for Pokémon pancake racing. Left behind with the other Pokémon whose Trainers have been disqualified, Sophocles is unhappy with Sophocles as he catches up to it and attacks Sophocles for his failure.

In the last section of the race, the Pokémon make their way across a bridge as their Trainers return to the stands to watch their progress. Without Jessie to keep it in line, Mimikyu prepares another Shadow Ball to attack Pikachu with, but Bounsweet loses its balances and topples into Mimikyu, causing both their pancakes to drop; Mimikyu's misfired attack ends up popping Lana's water balloon holding its pancakes, ruining its stack as well. Mallow and Lana are disappointed while Jessie is infuriated at Mimikyu.

The remaining competitors - Meowth, Pikachu, Raichu and Komala - race across rocky terrain, with Meowth struggling to keep the robot steady. Spurred on by Raichu's smug behavior, Pikachu pushes itself to go faster, ending up neck and neck with Raichu and tying for the lead. Exhausted from the stuffy costume of the Robo-Racer, Meowth decides to activate its thrusters, sending the robot racing ahead and overtaking Pikachu and Raichu. Before Meowth can cross the finish line, Bewear shows up and retrieves Meowth and Wobbuffet, destroying the Robo-Racer and revealing its true nature to the onlookers, before picking up Jessie and James and running away. Everyone is stunned at the sight, including Pikachu and Raichu, inadvertently allowing Samson Oak's Komala to race ahead of them. The two Mouse Pokémon realize this, but are seconds too late as Komala ends up winning by a nose, with Pikachu and Raichu both tying for second place.

At a prize-giving ceremony, Ash and Rotom congratulate Pikachu for its efforts. Raichu is upset that it lost, but Nina consoles it, reminding it that it had fun and could compete for first place next year. The other Trainers console their Pokémon as well, while Mallow suggests to Lillie she could race the following year with the Pokémon that hatches from the Egg she was given. Ash notes that Kiawe is nowhere to be seen; the scene cuts away to Kiawe and Turtonator, having made no visible progress. Despite Turtonator's concern, Kiawe swears not to drop out of the race.

The next day, Lillie calls to everyone to gather, explaining that the Egg, which she nicknamed "Snowy", has been moving constantly since after the race. Her classmates watch on as the Egg glows brightly, then hatches into an Alolan Vulpix, closing the episode.
She is Baraz's younger sister and takes care of Hoopa in Arche Valley.

History
Baraz and Meray were born in Arche Valley as descendants of Ghris, a villager who had stopped Hoopa Unbound from destroying Dahara City and sealed away its evil power into the Prison Bottle one hundred years ago. When Hoopa transformed into Hoopa Confined, Ghris brought it with him to Arche Valley, where it would stay. From their birth on, Baraz and Meray grew up with Hoopa.

As shown in Hoopa — The Mischief Pokémon, Baraz, Meray and Hoopa also had other friends in Arche Valley called Lucianne, Pit and Kevie. One day, Baraz, Meray and their friends tried to help Old Man Dom by having Hoopa make rain appear to stop the drought. This didn't work however, as Hoopa misunderstood and let it rain candy from Mira's store instead. They were punished for this by Mira, and had to help her make donuts. They later got in even more trouble, when they accidentally broke an ivory statue treasured by Mira. They tried to glue the statue, but weren't able to make it look like it did before. Mira ultimately discovered this, but she wasn't mad at them as they had done their best to repair it. Afterwards they all enjoyed the donuts they made together.

In the present day, Baraz and Meray started a search for the Prison Bottle, as they wanted to bring it back to Arche Valley. Following a long search in the desert near Dahara City, Barza decided to look for it own his own from his Braviary, and told Mary to go on ahead to Dahara City with Hoopa. They promised each other they would meet at the Dahara Tower. Meray and Hoopa continued walking and eventually saw the skyline of Dahara City glister in the sun.

Shortly afterwards in Hoopa and the Clash of Ages, she left Hoopa behind for a short time while she was getting donuts. When she returned, she found out that Hoopa had summoned Ash and was pulling pranks on him. After Ash had Hoopa summon Clemont, Bonnie and Serena, Meray introduced herself to them. While they were making plans to go to Dahara Tower together, Baraz arrived on his Braviary. He had found the Prison Bottle, but under possession of the Prison Bottle he used it to transform Hoopa into its evil Unbound form. Meray then stepped forward and used the Prison Bottle to turn Hoopa back to its Confined form.

Shortly afterwards however, TRT managed to snatch the Prison Bottle from the group. The Prison Bottle took control of MTR and released Hoopa's evil power once more. After this, the Prison Bottle was accidentally destroyed when Meowth dropped it on the ground. Hoopa started to transform into Hoopa Unbound again, but Baraz and Meray stopped this from happening with their powers. The evil power then manifested itself into another Hoopa Unbound. To restore the Prison Bottle, Baraz and Meray went to Dahara Tower, at which site Ghris had created it one hundred years ago, while Ash fought Hoopa Unbound with the help of Hoopa Confined. They managed to restore it, and stopped Hoopa Unbound just as it was about to crush Ash.

Although Dahara City seemed safe now, time and space started to warp around Dahara Tower due to too many Legendary Pokémon having been summoned to one place by both Hoopa in their fight. After all the people around the tower were transported to safety by Hoopa, Baraz, Ash and Meray tried to save Hoopa from the distortion by transporting it through one of its own rings, something it had never been able to do. When they weren't able to do so, Baraz and Hoopa were about to be left behind in the center of the distortion. As the distortion closed in on them, it suddenly froze. This gave them enough time to pull Hoopa through the ring. At the last moment, Hoopa reached out through the ring and pulled Baraz out of it, after which the distortion finally closed in. As they looked to the sky, they saw Arceus watching over them and realized it had temporally stopped the distortion to save Baraz. They all looked in awe as Arceus flew away through the clouds. Dahara Tower had been completely consumed by the distortion, but Hoopa promised to restore it.

Character
As a child, Meray was mischievous, frequently annoying Baraz with pranks she often carried out with Hoopa's assistance. She also did not take her training to harness the powers of Arche Valley seriously, which also irritated him. In adulthood, she maintains her lighthearted demeanor but has become more responsible, having mastered the use of her powers and acting frequently as a parental figure for Hoopa.
