'''May's Venusaur''' (Japanese: '''ハルカのフシギバナ''' ''Haruka's Fushigibana'') was the fourth [[Pokémon]] caught by {{an|May}} during her travels through [[Hoenn]]. She was captured as a {{p|Bulbasaur}} along the way to [[Fortree City]] in a place known as the [[Forbidden Forest]]. As a Bulbasaur, she is voiced by 伊東みやこ ''[[Miyako Itō]]'' in the Japanese version, and by [[Tara Jayne]] in English.

==History==

Bulbasaur was captured in ''[[AG073|Grass Hysteria]]'', although she had been featured in the series opening, ''[[Challenger!!]]'', for a short while before that. May was kidnapped by a hungry {{p|Skarmory}} and ended up lost in a place called the Forbidden Forest, a preserve for {{type2|Grass}} Pokémon. There, May met a clumsy Bulbasaur trying to pick flowers. Bulbasaur warmed up to May after she saved the little Grass-type from a fall, but the other Grass-type Pokémon repeatedly tried to attack May. However, Bulbasaur explained to {{p|Venusaur}}, the ruler of the Forbidden Forest, that May was a friend. Before May had to leave, Bulbasaur decided to stay with her.

As a Bulbasaur, she was distinctive from [[Ash's Bulbasaur]] in three ways: she had a gentler personality, a pair of heart-shaped spots on her forehead and she was able to use the move {{m|Petal Dance}} as opposed to Ash's Bulbasaur's use of the technique {{m|SolarBeam}}.

She is also very fond of flowers. She became friends with Ash's Bulbasaur when Ash temporarily brought it to Hoenn in ''[[AG074|Hokey Poké Balls!]]'' and further bonded with it in ''[[AG133|The Right Place at the Right Mime]]'', when May decided to leave her at [[Professor Oak]]'s ranch. Eventually, after journeying to Johto, May got Bulbasaur back from Oak, and during her time away from Ash, it evolved twice into {{p|Ivysaur}} and {{p|Venusaur}}.

She debuted as a Venusaur in ''[[DP078|Pruning a Passel of Pals]]'', where she defeated a {{p|Marill}} for May in the second battle round of the [[Wallace Cup]]. Not much is known about Venusaur since she only had a small cameo appearance.

==Trivia==
* May capturing her Bulbasaur in a preserved location for {{type2|Grass}} Pokémon may be a reference to [[Ash's Bulbasaur]] who was captured in the [[Hidden Village]] in [[Kanto]].
* Like Ash from [[Kanto]] has {{AP|Sceptile}}, a fully-evolved {{type2|Grass}} [[starter Pokémon]] from [[Hoenn]], May from Hoenn has Venusaur, the fully-evolved Grass starter from Kanto.
* May's Venusaur is the only starter Pokémon owned by a member of the main cast that is seen in its final form and unevolved form, but never in its middle form.
* As of Venusaur, the entire set of fully evolved [[Kanto]] [[starter Pokémon]] is now owned by regular characters: May owns Venusaur, {{Ash}} owns {{AP|Charizard}}, and {{Gary}} owns {{TP|Gary|Blastoise}}.
* Venusaur shares many similarities to [[Paul's Torterra]]. They are both in the final stages of the {{type2|Grass}} [[starter Pokémon]]. They have also been seen only in their first and final forms, not their middle forms, quite often in one, and only through a cameo/flashback in the other. They also are the final forms of [[Pokémon]] that {{Ash}} has that were in their basic forms at the time when the fully [[Evolution|evolved]] {{OBP|Pokémon|species}} was introduced.
*Bulbasaur is the only Poison type that she has.
**It's also the fourth poison type that the main character obtains [Ash first obtains Bulbasaur. Brock obtains Zubat. Lastly, Ash, again, obtains Muk].
