Volcanion (Japanese: ボルケニオン Volcanion) is a dual-type Mythical Pokémon introduced in Generation VI.

It is not known to evolve into or from any other Pokémon.

Volcanion was leaked in the January 2016 issue of CoroCoro magazine on December 12, 2015, and it was Volcanion has been officially revealed in English on December 14, 2015.

Volcanion is the last Pokémon in the Central Kalos Pokédex.

Biology
Volcanion is a primarily maroon, quadrupedal Pokémon. It has pointed ears with blue interiors, bright blue eyes, yellow markings over and behind its eyes that resemble eyebrows and eyelashes, a pointed, yellow mandible, and a spike-like protrusion on each cheek. Its body is divided into three segments: a considerably larger front portion that has a hunched back, a thin, blue waist, and smaller hips that resemble its front portion. On its chest are four yellow, diamond-shaped bumps. There is a thin, yellow band around each of its leg joints and the lower, maroon portions of its legs are larger than the thin, blue upper portions. Each ankle has a short, blunt growth, while each foot has three yellow claws. Volcanion has a short, tapering tail with a slightly shorter blue bump along the top. On the back of the front portion of its body are two arm-like cannons. These cannons are normally held together and form a ring around the back. Each cannon is separated into three segments by bright blue lines and each segment has a single blue dot and a short, blunt growth. The topmost segments also have four small, yellow bumps around the ends.

Volcanion has an organ that allows it to vaporize the water it absorbs instantly with extremely high temperatures. The arms on Volcanion's back expel the resulting steam from inside its body, allowing it to disappear into the dense fog. It can expel steam of superbly high pressure and has the ability to blow away mountains. Volcanion can run out of water within its body to use, as depicted in the movie Volcanion and the Mechanical Marvel. When it does, a sound similar to a bell is heard, the lines and dots on its cannons turn red, and it is unable to use any Water moves until it refills its water supply from another source. The movie also revealed that it can utilize its arm-like cannons for various purposes, such as flying through the air by launching water like rockets, blocking attacks, or grabbing objects. As depicted in Pokopia, Volcanion can use them to launch other objects as well, like fireworks.

It was also shown that Volcanion can live for several centuries. It's said to live in mountains where humans do not tread. Volcanion is capable of creating explosive shockwaves. This power also allows Volcanion to gouge out the earth and changing the land by reshaping it. Volcanion is worshiped in several regions, such as Kalos, as a "nation-building Pokémon" due to its ability to alter the landscape for people to live on. Volcanion's power can potentially transform the world with its landscape-altering abilities.

Volcanion is the only known Pokémon capable of learning the move Steam Eruption.
Main series
Major appearances
Volcanion (M19)
Volcanion played a major role in Volcanion and the Mechanical Marvel. It was portrayed as a Pokémon who had a hatred of humans, and was targeting the Azoth Kingdom to retrieve the man-made Pokémon Magearna, of whom only it knew its true identity.

Minor appearances
In the TCG
Volcanion (TCG)

Other appearances
Super Smash Bros. Ultimate
Volcanion appears as a Spirits (characters).

Trivia
* Volcanion is the only Fire Pokémon capable of learning Water moves from level-up, excluding Hidden Power and Tera Blast.
* No other Pokémon has the same type combination as Volcanion.
* Volcanion is the only Pokémon from the first six generations to not appear in Pokémon Super Mystery Dungeon, as it was not yet officially introduced at the time of the game's release.
* In Omega Ruby and Alpha Sapphire, it is revealed that Volcanion has been sighted in Kalos, Johto, and Sinnoh, with Brandon having led expeditions to search for it in those regions.
* Volcanion is the only Mythical Pokémon introduced in Generation VI to not have an additional form.
* In Pokémon Pokopia, Volcanion is shown to dislike humans. However, its base Friendship is 100, which is above average.

Origin
Given Volcanion's mechanical appearance, type combination, and ability to boil water into steam, it may be based on steam engines and other boilers, while its "arms" function as artillery weapons. It may draw inspiration from the Ryukyu Islands shisa and komainu, mythical creatures that resemble a mix between lions and dogs, who are often depicted with dragon-like features. Its signature move may refer to geysers.

Name origin
Volcanion may be a combination of volcano or volcanic and lion or union (given how it is both Water-type and Fire-type). It may also involve canyon or cañón (Spanish for "cannon").
Trivia
* Lida shares a few traits with Tierno, as both serve as the player's close friends in the Kalos region and show a strong interest in dance. Their hairstyles are also similar, featuring dark hair styled into three upward-pointing strands. Additionally, their names suggest a thematic contrast: Lida's name in various languages is derived from words meaning "hard" or "rough", while Tierno's name likely comes from a word meaning "tender".
Dark Void (Japanese: ダークホール Dark Hole) is a non-damaging Dark move introduced in Generation IV. It is the signature move of Darkrai.

Effect
Generation IV-VI
Dark Void puts all adjacent foes to sleep, with an accuracy of 80% for each Pokémon.

Targets with Insomnia or Vital Spirit as their Ability are unaffected by Dark Void.

Targets affected by Sweet Veil as their Ability are also unaffected by Dark Void.

If Appendix:Metagame terminology is active in Pokémon Battle Revolution in a double battle, Dark Void will only put one foe to sleep and will fail on the other Pokémon.

Dark Void can also be used as part of a Contest Spectacular combination, causing certain moves (Dream Eater, Hex, Nightmare and Wake-Up Slap) to give an extra three appeal points if used in the next turn.

Generation VII
Dark Void's accuracy was reduced to 50% for each Pokémon.

Dark Void can now only be successfully used by Darkrai (or a Pokémon that has transformed into Darkrai). If this move is used by any other Pokémon (including via Assist or Metronome), the move will fail, displaying the battle text "But <Pokémon> can't use the move!". Dark Void will not fail when reflected by Magic Bounce.

If powered up by a Darkinium Z into Z-Dark Void, all of the user's lowered stats are reset.

Generation VIII
Pokémon Sword and Shield
Dark Void cannot be selected in a battle.

Pokémon Legends: Arceus
In Pokémon Legends: Arceus, Dark Void's accuracy was raised to 90%, and lowers the user's action priority. It makes the target drowsy and lowers its defensive stats. Like all other moves in this game, it targets only one Pokémon.
Trivia
* Since Generation VII (excluding Pokémon Legends: Arceus), Dark Void has the lowest accuracy of all status moves, signature moves, and Dark-type moves.
* In The Rise of Darkrai, when using Dark Void for the second and third times, Darkrai exclaims the move's name. This does not happen in the original Japanese version.
** In the Brazil dub, probably due to an oversight, Darkrai says "Dark Void" when using the move for the third time instead of a localized name.
Ruby (Japanese: ルビー Ruby) is a main character in the manga series Pokémon Adventures.

Character
Ruby has a great passion for Pokémon Contests. While he's an excellent battler, he only fights when necessary or when no one takes notice. He believes that Pokémon battles are barbaric, and get his Pokémon dirty — something that he does not like.

Ruby is skilled at sewing and knitting. He makes clothes for Ruby's Pokémon to wear, and even made Sapphire the clothes she wears for much of her adventures. He is Myopia, and he has a pair of glasses to correct this, though he was originally too vain when it came to wearing them often. His other hobby is photography. He has a photo album of all of his Pokémon's biggest moments — such as evolutions or Pokémon Contest victories.

Ruby can be very fussy at times, putting too much emphasis on outward appearances. For example, when Emerald stained his clothes, Ruby freaked out over them. After going through character development, he managed to learn that appearances aren't the only thing that makes one beautiful. For his skills, he is given the title of "Charmer" (魅せる者 Charmer).

Besides necessities, Ruby also has a "Makeup Box" and "Sewing Box" in his backpack, for his Contest appearances. Ruby has a pair of Running Shoes made by the Devon Corporation which he received from his father for his eleventh birthday. They are extremely powerful and useful, and propel Ruby along the ground with bursts of compressed air.

As part of his training, Ruby is able to discern a Pokémon's nature in a few seconds. This has helped him to distract enemy Pokémon by using the target's favorite flavor of Pokéblock.

History
Spoilers
Prior to Ruby & Sapphire
As a young child, Ruby lived with his father, Norman, and his mother in Goldenrod City in Johto region. He and his family traveled to the Hoenn region so Norman could take a test to become a Gym Leader. During their stay, Ruby met and played with Professor Birch's daughter, Sapphire and later protected her from a Zinnia that attacked them. Despite winning, the injuries he sustained in the battle caused Sapphire to break down crying. Believing he was too fierce and scared her, Ruby decided to give up battling and instead chose to focus on making his Pokémon beautiful and appealing to others.

Ruby & Sapphire
Ruby debuted in Creeping Past Cacnea, where he and his mother moved to Littleroot Town in the Hoenn region. Shortly after settling in his new home, Ruby ran away to begin his quest to conquer all of Hoenn's Pokémon Contests and convince his father to stop trying to train him in Pokémon battling. At 101, Ruby found Professor Birch under attack by a pair of wild Mightyena, but refused to help at the risk of getting his Pokémon dirty. When he tried convincing the Mightyena to join his team, they began chasing after him. An unfazed Ruby found Birch's bag containing a Pokédex and used it to gather information on the two Bite Pokémon.

Ruby accidentally activated the Running Shoes he received as a birthday gift from Norman, causing himself to run off a cliff and crash down into the forest below. Just before he passed out from his injuries, what Ruby thought was a green Pokémon saved him and brought him into a cave with it. After waking up, Ruby received a call from Birch on the Pokégear that was in Birch's bag. Birch revealed that he is an old friend of Norman's and is fully aware of who Ruby is. Before Ruby could fully explain the situation, the green creature began speaking, causing Ruby to panic, leading to Nana attacking it. Furious at this, the creature removed its cloak of leaves, revealing itself to be a human girl before sending her Torchic, Chic, to attack, forcing Ruby to use defend himself with the Mudkip in Birch's bag. Overhearing the clash, Birch revealed that the girl is actually Sapphire, his daughter.

Though the misunderstanding was cleared, Ruby and Sapphire were attacked by a wild Seviper. Ruby still refused to battle, forcing Sapphire to defeat the Tail Snake Pokémon by herself. Afterward, the two began arguing over their interests, which ended with Sapphire deciding to make a bet to see who could conquer their respective goal within an 80-day time limit. After Ruby agreed, Sapphire fainted from the injuries she received from protecting Ruby from the Mightyena earlier. Ruby healed Sapphire's wounds and modified a spare set of his clothes for Sapphire to wear. Just as he left, the Seviper awakened, but was easily defeated by Ruby, who revealed he wasn't weak and instead chooses to not battle.

In Distracting Dustox, Ruby arrived at Oldale Town, where he tried to figure out what type of Contest category would best suit Mudkip. After it defeated a wild Dustox Ruby accidentally angered, Ruby decided to give Mudkip the nickname Mumu.

In Nixing Nuzleaf, Ruby arrived at Petalburg City, where he encountered Wally, a sickly boy who requested help from Norman in capturing a Pokémon before he moved to another town. After hiding in some nearby bushes, Ruby listened in on a conversation between Norman and Wally where the former rejected the latter's request because he wasn't informed of Wally's sickness and didn't want to risk him getting hurt. Pitying the boy and resenting his father, Ruby lent Wally his Ralts, Rara, and the two went to the outskirts of Petalburg to capture a Pokémon. There, Wally found a wild Kecleon and managed to capture it with Ruby's assistance. As thanks for helping him, Wally gave Ruby a PokéNav. Ruby and Wally were separated when a sudden earthquake began, causing Ruby to fall into the sea.

In Stick This in Your Craw, Crawdaunt! I, Ruby discovered he was rescued by Mr. Briney, a retired fisherman. Mr. Briney dropped Ruby off at Dewford Town, where he met with Sapphire again. In Guile from Mawile, Ruby entered the Granite Cave in hopes of obtaining the rare and beautiful Milotic, but was attacked by a group of wild Mawile. With the help of Steven, a stone collector and powerful Trainer, Ruby managed to escape. During the battle, Nana evolved into a Mightyena and Kiki evolved into a Delcatty. After Steven left, Ruby told Sapphire about the incident. Sapphire revealed she needed to meet with Steven and set off with Ruby on her Wailord, Lorry, to chase after him.

In Adding It Up with Plusle & Minun I, Sapphire forced Ruby to stay the night on the Abandoned Ship. After an encounter with a prankster Ruby and Sapphire, Ruby was attacked by Tabitha and Courtney, members of Team Magma that were after a Scanner located on the ship. With Plusle and Minun's help, Ruby and Sapphire managed to escape, but ended up losing the Scanner to the villains. Afterward, they said their goodbyes to Plusle and Minun.

In Tripped Up by Torkoal, Ruby and Sapphire went their separate ways. After arriving in Slateport City, Mumu evolved into Marshtomp, which attracted the attention of the Pokémon Fan Club Chairman. Despite the Chairman's assistance, Ruby was unable to enter a Contest without a Hoenn Contest Pass. To pass the time, Ruby and the Chairman dragged Captain Stern and Dock to help them blend Berries before Team Magma arrived and knocked all four out. The four were taken to Stern's Shipyard, where Blaise, a Team Magma member, tried to take the Submarine Explorer 1. After luring Blaise onto the submarine and overcoming his powerful illusions, Ruby managed to flee with an escape pod, though this allowed Team Magma to get what they came for.

In Not So Fetching Feebas, Ruby surfaced on 118, where he encountered a Swimmer named Jack. Ruby was forced to help Jack fish up a rare Pokémon as compensation for accidentally ruining his fishing trap. Ruby only managed to keep fishing up the same Feebas, which kept coming back despite being thrown back into the water each time. To Ruby's shock, Feebas was the Pokémon that Jack was looking for, but they accidentally caused Feebas to run away. Later, Ruby and Jack accidentally interrupted a battle between a wild Zangoose and Seviper. When the two Pokémon attacked them, Ruby and Jack were saved by Feebas, who bought them enough time to escape to the Weather Institute. Afterward, Jack pointed out that Feebas took a liking to Ruby and suggested that he keep it on his team. Ruby reluctantly agreed, though secretly planned on releasing Feebas later. Due to rain, Ruby and Jack were forced to stay the night in the building. When Mumu went off, Ruby followed after it to the roof, only to find Norman there waiting for him.

In Hanging Around With Slaking I, Norman attacked Ruby, demanding to know why he ran away from home. Refusing to give up or run away, Ruby chose to battle his father to prove how serious he was about Contests. The two had a fierce battle that almost ended with both falling off the Weather Institute and onto some sharp debris below. With some help from Mr. Stone's Castform, Feebas, now named Feefee, and the Running Shoes, Ruby managed to save himself and Norman before finally collapsing. Before he left, Norman allowed Ruby to participate in Contests, chastised him for running away, and told him not to come home until he accomplished his goal. Afterward, Castform took a liking to Ruby, joined his team, and was named Fofo.

In Mind-Boggling with Medicham, Ruby made it to Verdanturf Town with the help of Gabby and Ty, a pair of Interviewers that had watched the battle between him and Norman. After obtaining a Contest Pass and winning all five Normal Rank Contests, Ruby met Wally's cousin, Wanda, and helped rescue her fiancé, Riley from a cave-in at Rusturf Tunnel. The cause of the cave-in turned out to be a group of Team Magma Grunts led by Courtney. They admitted that they were the ones who caused the earthquakes around Hoenn in an attempt to stimulate the earth's crust and increase the landmass. Ruby was taken into Rusturf Tunnel by Courtney, who wanted to try and convince Ruby to join Team Magma. Ruby refused and managed to escape, leaving Courtney behind, trapped in a sea of her Ninetales' flames. Though burnt from the attack, Courtney survived and decided to go on a solo mission to learn more about Ruby, whom she had taken an interest in.

In I More Than Like You, Luvdisc I, Ruby arrived in Fallarbor Town and won each Super Rank Contest, but was too late to enter the Beauty category. Deciding to enter again the next day, Ruby instead went to watch the Beauty Contest, only to see that Wallace managed to easily win it. Ruby challenged Wallace in an attempt to prove his skills, but was easily defeated and decided to make Wallace his Contest master. Despite Wallace constantly refusing Ruby's request to become his disciple, he eventually agreed after seeing Ruby's true nature as the son of a Gym Leader. The next day, after obtaining the Super Rank Beauty Ribbon, Ruby and Wallace set off to Fortree City.

In I'm Always Grumpig First Thing in the Morning I, Ruby and Wallace arrived at Fortree City, where the other Gym Leaders and Sapphire had gathered. After being left alone together, Ruby and Sapphire tried apologizing for their previous arguments, only for another earthquake to startle a group of wild Spoink and Grumpig into stampeding. Ruby instinctively defeated the Grumpig, accidentally revealing his true strength to Sapphire in the process. Though mad at Ruby for lying to her, Sapphire noted that with Ruby's strength, he could help the Gym Leaders with the upcoming crisis in Hoenn. When Ruby stated he had no interest in helping, Sapphire angrily removed the clothes he made for her, changed into a new leaf outfit, and told Ruby that she never wanted to see him again.

In Master Class with Masquerain, Mumu evolved into a Swampert, which Ruby noted was because of all the battles he had, which he had been trying to avoid the entire time. Feeling himself to be a nuisance and unneeded for the upcoming crisis, Ruby decided to run off and continue his Contest quest. Despite the city being flooded at the time, Ruby entered the Hyper Rank Contests, which he easily managed to won due to being the only available contestant. During the Beauty Contest, Ruby went up against another contestant that kept their identity hidden and was defeated.

Still angry himself, Ruby lashed out at Feefee, calling her ugly and undeserving to be a part of his Contest team. The other contestant revealed himself to be Wallace, who called Ruby out for pushing his own failures onto his Pokémon. Realizing his mistake, Ruby tried calling out to Feefee so he could apologize, but it was too late, as Feefee had run away and swam out to sea. Wallace told Ruby that he was selfish, constantly ignoring the feelings of his own Pokémon to fuel his selfish desires. The shock of the situation caused Ruby to pass out while crying over Feefee. Afterward, Wallace revealed that Feefee did win the Contest, but he rigged it to teach Ruby a lesson.

In The Beginning of the End with Kyogre & Groudon V, Ruby awakened at a Slateport hospital. He learned that the Gym Leaders and Sapphire are fighting against Super-ancient Pokémon (Adventures) and Super-ancient Pokémon (Adventures), which have been awakened. Realizing that he had been standing around doing nothing despite having the strength to help, Ruby regained his resolve and agreed to help stop the crisis. Putting on a new outfit, Ruby and Wallace went to where Sapphire and Winona were located. Ruby revealed that Relly, the Relicanth Sapphire had acquired, had the ability to take two children down to the Seafloor Cavern, where the villains behind Groudon and Kyogre's awakening are hiding. After handing Sapphire a new set of clothes, Ruby and Sapphire used Relly's power to Dive into the water.

In No Armaldo Is an Island, Ruby and Sapphire arrived at the Seafloor Cavern, where they battled a group of Team Magma Grunt and Team Aqua Grunt and won. In The Beginning of the End with Kyogre & Groudon X, they encountered Maxie and Archie, the respective leaders of Team Magma and Team Aqua. After managing to subdue the leaders, Ruby tried taking the Red and Blue Orbs from them, only to find that they've been absorbed into their hands. The leaders are possessed by the orbs, putting them under Groudon and Kyogre's control. With their new power, Maxie and Archie create a vortex of energy that lifts them, Ruby, Sapphire, and the Grunts out of the Seafloor Cavern and to the surface. They then fly towards Sootopolis City, where Groudon and Kyogre planned to restart their ancient battle.

In The Beginning of the End with Kyogre & Groudon XIV, Ruby and Sapphire were taken to Sootopolis City, where they were forced to watch Groudon and Kyogre's clash with no way of stopping it. When Wallace and Winona came to help, Ruby and Sapphire suggested running away. After being reminded of a childhood friend they wanted to see again, Ruby and Sapphire regained their resolve. By having Mumu and Chic fire their attacks on the Grand Meteor fragment, Ruby and Sapphire created a blast of energy that hit Maxie and Archie where the Red and Blue Orbs were located. The attack created a giant explosion that engulfed the entirety of Sootopolis. Ruby and Sapphire later awakened in a different location, where they met Juan, Tate, and Liza. Juan had taken the two to Mirage Island with the intent of training them for a rematch with Groudon and Kyogre. Due to Mirage Island's special properties, the time Ruby and Sapphire spent training would differ from the outside world, making a single day be a week elsewhere and vice versa. During their stay, the two reunited with Plusle and Minun, who were forced to relocate after Kyogre destroyed the Abandoned Ship. Later, Juan revealed the true purpose of the training was to help Ruby and Sapphire master the Red and Blue Orbs that entered their bodies after being forced out of Maxie and Archie. Once their training had finished, Ruby and Sapphire prepared to head back to Sootopolis.

In Rayquaza Redemption II, Sapphire confessed to Ruby that she had developed feelings for him. She admitted that the bet was made to fulfill a promise to a childhood friend who suggested they beat all eight Gym Leaders before they turned eleven to surpass Red, a Trainer that beat the Pokémon League at that age. Sapphire then asked Ruby to give up on his previous statement of wanting to return to Johto and stay in Hoenn with her. After making their way back to Sootopolis, Ruby had Sapphire release the Blue Orb before locking her inside Wallace's aircar. Ruby showed Sapphire the scar on his forehead, revealing to Sapphire that he was the boy she knew from her younger years. After admitting he returned Sapphire's feelings but didn't want her to get hurt and, Ruby set off with Courtney to battle against Groudon and Kyogre.

In It All Ends Now III, Ruby and Courtney respectively used the Red and Blue Orbs on Groudon and Kyogre. As Courtney hadn't trained to use the Blue Orb like Sapphire did, their attempt to control the Legendary Pokémon failed, leading to Groudon and Kyogre attacking them. The fight further escalated when Super-ancient Pokémon (Adventures), the third Hoenn Legendary Pokémon arrived to join the battle. Just before she's crushed to death by the collapsing Cave of Origin, Courtney used the last of her strength to give Ruby the Blue Orb and deliver him a message through her Memory Lighter, revealing that the one controlling Rayquaza is actually Norman. Ruby teamed up with Norman to combine both the Red and Blue Orbs with Rayquaza's power, sending both Groudon and Kyogre flying off the side of Sootopolis. Groudon and Kyogre then went their separate ways to new dwellings, finally ending the battle.

In It All Ends Now V, Norman collapsed from the strain of controlling Rayquaza without an Orb. Rayquaza, angered that its slumber was disturbed, flew off elsewhere. Norman revealed that Rayquaza was once captured by the Pokémon Association, but the Salamence Ruby defeated years ago went on a rampage afterward, causing it to accidentally set Rayquaza free. To keep Ruby safe, Norman pinned the blame on himself and was barred from becoming a Gym Leader for five years while being forced to search for the missing Sky High Pokémon. Ruby tried asking why Norman would sacrifice everything for him, but before he could answer, Norman died in Ruby's arms.

In It All Ends Now VI, Maxie and Archie returned, having decided to work together and eliminate any obstacle before awakening Groudon and Kyogre again to continue their battle. Sapphire and Wallace came to Ruby's aid, but the latter was forced to give up in order to protect Winona, leading to his defeat. To Ruby's surprise, Feefee also returned and attempted to fight Maxie and Archie, only to be easily defeated. Guilty that she still tried to protect him despite what he said to her previously, Ruby apologized to Feefee, stating that it truly is beautiful. After receiving the Hyper Rank Beauty Ribbon from Wallace, Ruby gave it to Feefee, who then evolved into Milotic.

In It All Ends Now VIII, Ruby and Sapphire teamed up to battle Maxie and Archie one last time. Using the battle as a distraction, Maxie and Archie tried escaping in Wallace's aircar, but were defeated by a combination attack from Plusle and Minun, trapping them in a large electrical field. Ruby then released his sixth Pokémon, Celebi, who proceeded to take the Red and Blue Orbs from the villains. Using its time-traveling powers, Celebi restored those who died in the battle back to life and then shattered the two Orbs, finally ending the crisis in Hoenn.

Ruby and Sapphire awakened on the Pokémon Association airship, where their allies congratulated them on their victory. With only one day remaining, Ruby and Sapphire set off to complete their Contest and Gym challenges. The next day, Ruby and Sapphire met at Sapphire's Secret Base, where they revealed they successfully completed their goals, ending the bet in a tie. Afterward, both children returned home to celebrate both of their birthdays.

Emerald
In Verily Vanquishing Vileplume II, Ruby and Sapphire arrived at the Battle Frontier in order to assist Emerald, the third Hoenn Pokédex holder, in protecting Jirachi from the armored man, Guile Hideout. After meeting Emerald, the boy ran off saying that he didn't need their help. In an attempt to befriend Emerald, Ruby and Sapphire competed in Battle Dome tournament. Ruby advanced to the semi-finals, but was defeated by Emerald. Afterward, Emerald got frustrated by their constant pestering that he had Ruby and Sapphire thrown out of the Battle Dome.

In A Cheeky Charizard Change-Up II, Ruby and Sapphire encountered Spenser, who noted Sapphire's connection to the Blue Orb. Finding Spenser's behavior suspicious, Ruby and Sapphire recorded their conversation with him on Ruby's Memory Lighter. In Standing in the Way with Starmie, Spenser revealed that Guile managed to catch Jirachi and fled with it to the Battle Tower. Ruby, Sapphire, Emerald, and Noland all traveled to the Battle Tower in order to confront the man. After making their way into the area, they discovered that Anabel had been put under Guile's control.

In Facing Gulpin Is Hard to Swallow, Guile forced the Hoenn Pokédex holders and Noland to take the Battle Tower challenge in order to make it to him. The four battled through various Virtual Trainers before finally reaching the top floor, where Emerald faced off against Anabel. During the battle, Eon duo arrived and used its Sight Sharing to relay a message from Spenser, who revealed that he came in contact with the Blue Orb in the past and gained the ability to detect others like him, which included Guile. With his identity exposed, Guile lifted his helmet, revealing himself to be Archie.

In The Final Battle I, Guile used Jirachi's wishing granting power to summon a giant Kyogre-shaped mass of seawater and had it flood the Battle Frontier. Ruby and the others were assisted by the Johto Pokédex holders, Gold and Crystal, who revealed that their fellow Pokédex holder were turned to stone and the only way of reviving them was Jirachi. While Gold and Crystal kept the Kyogre monster busy, the Hoenn Pokédex holders trained to learn the Ultimate Moves, Hydro Cannon, Blast Burn, and Frenzy Plant. After they succeeded, Emerald managed to get Jirachi to grant his wish to turn the petrified Pokédex holders back to normal.

In The Final Battle VII, the ten Pokédex holders gathered together for one final battle against Guile and his army of rental Pokémon. By utilizing a triple Hydro Cannon, Blast Burn, Frenzy Plant, and Volt Tackle combination, the Kyogre sea monster was overloaded with energy and exploded, finally ending the conflict with Guile. In Epilogue, Ruby participated in a tournament between the Pokédex holders, which he lost at some point.

Diamond & Pearl
In High-tailing It from Haunter, Ruby was briefly seen together with the other Pokédex holders from Kanto, Johto, and Hoenn when the Advanced level Grunt was talking to Diamond about the Pokédex.

Omega Ruby & Alpha Sapphire
The Hoenn Pokédex holders were enlisted by Steven and Mr. Stone to prevent a meteoroid from crashing into the Earth and destroying it. Steven gave the three a Mega Bracelet, enabling them to use Mega Evolution and had them train with Ultima so Mumu, Chic, and Emerald could fully master the Ultimate Moves. Ruby only agreed to help on the condition that Sapphire be kept in the dark about the meteoroid. While Sapphire and Emerald practiced with each other, Ruby had plans elsewhere and lent Mumu to Sapphire so it could train without him.

In PS597, Ruby arrived at Southern Island, where he met Latios and Latias again. After telling them about the crisis, Ruby and Latios traveled to the Sky Pillar by soaring through the sky. After encountering and defeating the Draconid, Zinnia, Ruby learned that she sent the Salamence that attacked the Pokémon Associaton facility years ago. Before leaving, Zinnia told that she planned on stopping the meteoroid alone, without the Devon Corporation's help.

In PS602, Ruby and Latios were approached by the Draconids Jinga, Renza, and Tomatoma, who revealed Zinnia wanted to stop the meteoroid in place of Aster, a deceased Draconid and the former Lorekeeper. The Draconids asked Ruby if Zinnia had a scroll on her, but the conversation was forced to end when pieces of the meteoroid began falling down. Ruby and Latios were hit by one of the pieces, knocking them into the sea. Ruby and Latios later awakened in a cave, where they were taken to after being rescued by Diancie, a Mythical Pokémon. Fully realizing the weight of the danger the meteoroid possessed, Ruby broke down in tears and voiced his desire to protect the planet so that he can enjoy the things he does with the people he loves. Using its Sight Sharing, Latios and Ruby witnessed Steven and Mr. Stone draining Chic and Sceptile's life energy to power the dimension shifter, a machine that could stop the meteoroid. Questioning Steven and Mr. Stone's methods, Ruby decided that neither Zinnia or Devon would stop the meteoroid. Instead, he decided that he would ride on Rayquaza and stop it himself.

In PS604, Ruby arrived on the Sea Mauville, where he fought to stop Zinnia from destroying the dimensional shifter. When Sapphire was nowhere to be found, Emerald revealed that Hoopa used its rings to warp her to a different location. Zinnia continued attacking in order to take Steven's Key Stone, but stopped when Ruby offered up his and Emerald's Mega Bracelets as a bribe. Zinnia accepted and left, completely unaware that Ruby managed to steal the scroll when she wasn't looking.

In PS606, the group traveled to Meteor Falls in hopes of finding information about Rayquaza. Hoopa was attacked by Blaise and Amber and manipulated into summoning Groudon and Kyogre with its rings. Using an illusion, Blaise and Amber bought themselves enough time to escape and allow Groudon and Kyogre to revert to their Primal forms. To Ruby and Emerald's shock, Maxie and Archie had returned and were the ones who gave Groudon and Kyogre the Orbs necessary for Primal Reversion. Using the super-ancient Pokémon's power, Maxie and Archie easily knocked Ruby and Emerald out of the sky before revealing that they also intended on stopping the meteoroid.

In PS610, Ruby and Emerald awakened at the Meteor Village, the home of the Draconids. The village Elder revealed that Sapphire fought to protect the dimensional shifter, but lost and went missing. The Elder also allowed Maxie and Archie to train and teach Groudon and Kyogre moves necessary for stopping the meteoroid. After meeting with his father again, Ruby and Norman determined that Rayquaza must be heading towards the Pokémon Association's research facility in Goldenrod City and used Hoopa's ring to head there as well.

In PS611, Ruby and Norman entered the now-abandoned research facility. After purifying Emerald's Green Orb core into a shade of jade, increasing its abilities, they found Rayquaza outside, feeding on fallen pieces of the meteoroid. Ruby and Norman managed to control Rayquaza with the Jade Orb and teach it Dragon Ascent with Zinnia's scroll. Hoopa opened a path back to the village, only for Rayquaza to go berserk after seeing Groudon and Kyogre, causing Norman to be left behind. Panicking, Hoopa moved the ring to the direction of another one, accidentally sending Ruby and Rayquaza to 120. After Rayquaza angrily throws Ruby away, the boy is rescued by Wally, who battled Rayquaza in order to subdue it again. Ruby stopped Wally and convinced Rayquaza to join him by offering to the meteoroid together.

In PS613, Ruby met Sapphire again and apologized for lying to her. Agreeing to help stop the meteoroid, Sapphire joined Ruby and jumped onto Rayquaza's head. When a larger piece of the meteoroid appeared, Ruby and Sapphire teamed up with Maxie and Archie, combining the power of Hoenn's three super-ancient Pokémon into one attack to destroy it. After they succeeded, Sapphire used the Jade Orb core to peer into Rayquaza's mind, revealing it needed the power of Mega Evolution to defeat the actual meteoroid.

In PS615, Zinnia managed to lure Rayquaza away from Ruby and Sapphire, but her attempt to convince the Sky High Pokémon to join ended with it rejecting and attacking her. Zinnia was rescued by Latios and taken to Sootopolis City to recover from her injuries. Brought to tears, Zinnia gave up and admitted there was no way to save the planet anymore. Emerald disagreed and suggested the three factions that tried to stop the meteoroid work together instead of fighting with each other.

In PS616, the group's allies from around Hoenn gathered together to lend a hand and stop the meteoroid, now known as Grand Meteor Delta. After changing into their Contest Costumes and putting Magma and Aqua Suits over them, Ruby and Sapphire set off with Rayquaza to space. With the power of Mega Rayquaza and the combined might of their allies from Hoenn, Kanto, and Johto, Ruby and Sapphire successfully shattered Grand Meteor Delta into pieces. A Deoxys (Adventures) emerged from the wreckage of the meteoroid, but was defeated when Rayquaza shattered its core, knocked it unconscious. Afterward, Rayquaza took Ruby and Sapphire back down to Earth, where they reunited with their friends.

With the crisis averted, Ruby and Sapphire participated in a Contest Spectacular together. With the Diancite he obtained from Hoopa's rings, Ruby Mega Evolved Diancie for his performance.

Pokémon
In the original version and Chuang Yi translation, the nicknames of Ruby's Pokémon are derived from their Japanese species names with a certain syllable repeated twice. In the VIZ Media translation, the English names are used instead. In the original Japanese version, the names are written in the Latin alphabet as opposed to kana, however, the equivalent kana sometimes appears as ruby characters on top of the Latin letters.
