==Plot==
On a rooftop in [[Lumiose City]], a little girl named [[Navi]] greets the Pokémon around her, until she notices an airship, the [[Brave Olivine]], flying over the city, exciting her until she's called inside by an {{p|Espurr}} and a voice from indoors to run an errand.

The [[Rising Volt Tacklers]] have arrived in Lumiose City, with [[Ult]] insisting that he be their guide due to being born and raised in the city, but [[Roy]], [[Liko]], and [[Dot]] immediately get sidetracked by the glamorous sights, much to Ult's annoyance. The group subsequently heads to the [[Looker Bureau]], where they're greeted by [[Emma]]. Emma is happy to see how much Roy and Ult have grown, while the two boys are both shocked and impressed at her new attire. She comments proudly how Roy's {{p|Crocalor}} has [[Evolution|evolved]] into {{TP|Roy|Skeledirge}} and how Ult's [[Dusk Ball]] has finally opened to reveal a {{p|Dragonite}}, shedding tears of happiness for Ult. Roy and Ult introduce Liko and Dot to Emma as they all step into the Looker Bureau. Emma offers to make them some coffee, only to remember that she had run out of coffee beans and sent her assistant to buy new ones. Ult barely has time to question who this new assistant is when Navi arrives with the coffee beans in hand and promptly gets amazed by all the Pokémon she has never seen before, until Emma reminds her to give her the beans. Emma introduces Navi to the Rising Volt Tacklers, while Navi enthusiastically introduces herself as Emma's assistant and a huge Pokémon lover, while the Rising Volt Tacklers, minus Ult, express their happiness to meet her. Everyone sits down for coffee, though Emma says that Navi is too young to drink it yet, much to her annoyance, though she's made happier when Emma agrees to pour a small drop of coffee into her mug of milk. Ult backhandedly comments on this and calls her childish in response while sipping his own coffee, but Navi retorts by saying that he is the childish one for feeling the need to even say anything, infuriating him. While everyone chows down on some [[Lumiose Galette]]s, the Rising Volt Tacklers introduce themselves to Navi in more detail, specifying how they're adventurers traveling around on the Brave Olivine. Navi gets excited at the thought of flying around on an airship and being surrounded by Pokémon, expressing her newfound hope of getting to get a ride on the airship too.

The doorbell rings as Emma gets a visitor, an old lady in need of her detective skills. She explains that her {{p|Carbink}} has gone missing. Emma asks for ways to identify this specific Carbink, so the old lady shows her a pendant she's wearing, saying it's a gift from her husband and shaped like the gemstone on her Carbink's chest. Later, when Emma prepares to head out to search for Carbink, the Rising Volt Tacklers express their willingness to help, which Emma agrees to, deciding to take Liko and Dot with her, since this is their first time in Lumiose. Navi, in turn, decides to accompany Roy and Ult, much to Ult's annoyance, preparing everyone a {{wp|Vacuum flask|thermos}} of coffee and readying her personal set of detective gear. Dot notices Navi holding a [[Dream Ball]], which she says was a gift from Emma. Ult asks what Pokémon is inside of it, but she refuses to answer, annoying Ult.

Roy, Ult, and Navi decide to search around the plazas first, though Navi is quick to suggest they should look for Carbink from the air using her telescope instead. Ult can immediately tell she just wants to have a ride on the Brave Olivine, though with [[Captain Pikachu]] approving Navi's request, they head to the airship. Elsewhere, Liko, Dot, and Emma's questioning of people doesn't provide any promising leads. Dot suggests that since Carbink is a Pokémon that lives underground, they could try searching for it from a dark, underground location, which gives Emma an idea. Meanwhile, Roy, Ult, and Navi have arrived at the Brave Olivine, introducing an ecstatic Navi to the rest of the crew, and take off. On the bridge, Navi gets briefly scared when {{p|Ditto}} {{m|transform}}s before her, causing her to accidentally spill the coffee milk in her thermos, which Ditto tastes and comes to enjoy. Noticing this, Navi graciously gives it all of her remaining coffee milk. While the airship takes off and starts circling the city, Emma's group visits some workers at [[Racine Construction]], who, as experts of the city's layout, mention having seen a tall man carrying around a Carbink around the exit to [[the Sewers]]. Liko relays this information to the Brave Olivine, where Navi spots the man in question carrying Carbink down below, so Roy and Ult decide to head down after him, leaving the airship's wheel to [[Murdock]]. Although they tell Navi to stay behind, she still chases after them, though not without bumping into Murdock along the way and unknowingly dropping her Dream Ball in front of Ditto. Roy and Ult start flying down with {{TP|Roy|Kilowattrel}} and Dragonite when Navi calls after them, with Dragonite, without a prompt from Ult, turns around and picks up Navi to bring her with them.

While Liko, Dot, and Emma make their way towards the others along the [[Autumnal Avenue]], Roy's group manages to catch up with the tall man in a martial arts uniform and follows him from a distance through Lumiose's alleyways while waiting for Emma's group. The man shatters a [[Obstruction#Boulders|boulder]] on his way with a single punch and accidentally shatters his phone while attempting to make a call, intimidating Carbink and the group with his outrageous strength. Deciding to forego waiting for Emma, Roy calls out his {{TP|Roy|Lucario}} as the group follows the man around a corner, only for him to be facing them as they reach him and reveal that he's been aware of them following him. However, his attention is quickly redirected to Roy's Lucario, excitedly referring to it by its past name of Yellow Flash and speaking of the old rumors about its strength. The man introduces himself as [[Ivor]] and issues a {{pkmn|battle}} challenge to Roy. Once Ivor has agreed to return Carbink after the battle is over, Roy gladly agrees to accept the challenge.

Moving out into a more open area, Roy and Ivor prepare to begin their one-on-one battle. As the opponent for Roy's Lucario, Ivor chooses his {{p|Falinks}}. The moment Captain Pikachu officially starts the battle, Ivor [[Mega Evolution|Mega Evolves]] Falinks, causing it to assume a new, stacked-up battle formation, which Roy responds to by Mega Evolving Lucario into Mega Lucario Z. Falinks makes the first move with {{m|Brick Break}}, which Lucario manages to fend off before attacking with {{m|Metal Claw}}, which Falinks, in turn, blocks using its shield before using {{m|Rock Slide}}. Lucario manages to shatter the falling boulders with {{m|Close Combat}}, creating a big cloud of dust. Falinks charges through the dust cloud with {{m|Iron Head}}, but Lucario is able to sense and evade the incoming attack thanks to its [[aura]] sense, before counterattacking with {{m|Flash Cannon}}, though its attack is once again blocked by Falinks's shield. Ivor is impressed by Yellow Flash's dexterity, but still feels he has the advantage. He has Falinks power up with {{m|No Retreat}} and attack with a flurry of Brick Breaks, though Lucario is able to dodge or block every single blow, increasing Ivor's excitement. During the assault, Roy notices that the trooper forming Mega Falinks's midsection seems to be struggling, so when Ivor orders one more Brick Break, Roy has Lucario dodge and aim for the waist section trooper with {{m|Aerial Ace}}. Although the initial blow is once again blocked by Falinks's shield, Roy manages to create another opening and deal the intended blow, causing the Mega Falinks formation to fall apart. The brass and the other troopers get up and attempt to regather, only to realize that the midsection trooper has [[Fainting|fainted]], leaving the formation unable to reassemble, so Captain Pikachu rules the battle in favor of Roy. Despite losing, Ivor is happy to have gotten to battle the Yellow Flash. Roy reminds Ivor of his promise, so he gladly agrees to hand Carbink over just as Emma's group shows up, revealing to the detective that the {{pkmn|category|Jewel Pokémon}} had been found wandering lost by [[Gwynn|his little sister]], so he had taken it upon himself to return it to its {{pkmn|Trainer}}. Roy's group apologizes for mistaking the situation for a kidnapping, while Ivor apologizes for not admitting the truth sooner due to having gotten excited at the sight of the Yellow Flash, before seeing them off. Both groups return to the Looker Bureau with Carbink, where the old lady is happy to be reunited with her Pokémon and thanks Emma and the children for their help.

The children decide to stay at the Looker Bureau for the night. Just as Roy has finished informing Murdock of their overnight stay, Navi becomes alarmed when she realizes she's lost her Dream Ball. In her panicked state, she admits that the ball was empty, with Ult expressing mild surprise and annoyance that she isn't even a Trainer yet. Everyone is relieved that at least no Pokémon had been lost, but Navi, on the verge of tears, desperately insists that she needs to find it, which shocks the group at how emotional she is getting over it. Emma attempts to console her by offering to simply buy her a new one, but she firmly rejects the idea of letting it go or getting a substitute, insisting that her Dream Ball is irreplaceable. Meanwhile, aboard the Brave Olivine, Ditto is revealed to have picked up Navi's Dream Ball, and becomes determined to return it to her.

He was the former leader of the [[Explorers]], one of its founders, as well as the founder and chairman of [[Exceed]]. Additionally, he is [[Amethio]]'s grandfather.

At some point in the past, Gibeon met and caught a {{Shiny|White}} [[White Zygarde|Zygarde]] as his partner due to their shared wish to bring happiness to Pokémon and people. 100 years prior to the events of the series, Gibeon was a traveling {{pkmn|Trainer}} searching for the Pokémon paradise [[Laqua]] alongside his Zygarde. One day, while at a saloon, he overheard two other patrons deriding a pair of travelers who had come to ask for information regarding Laqua. He presented them with an extensive document of all the research he had conducted proving Laqua existed. Later, the two travelers, [[Lucius]] and [[Rystal]], invited him to accompany them on their {{pkmn|journey}} to locate the paradise, and he agreed. The group adopted the name of the [[Explorers]] and traveled around the {{pkmn|world}}, ultimately locating Laqua after several days lost at sea.

In Laqua, Gibeon studied the local Pokémon, seeking to understand what could have created such a lush environment. The trio pushed on deeper into Laqua, discovering evidence of plant life that had withered from an unknown force. They eventually came across a growth of pink crystals named [[Laquium]] that generate a pink mist. Gibeon approached the growth to take a sample, observing the intense levels of energy the crystal possessed. Lucius, fearing what kind of effect the crystals could have on his group, instructed Gibeon and Rystal to leave Laqua with him, while Rystal agreed, Gibeon did not listen. Driven mad by the power of the mist, Gibeon used Zygarde in an attempt to force more crystals to grow, unleashing more mist in the process. The mist, in turn, caused the Pokémon nearby to begin rampaging, forcing Lucius and Rystal to fight them off. Zygarde, realizing the effect the mist was having on its Trainer, shed some of its cells in an attempt to seal the crystals' energy away, but this measure failed. The crystals' explosive growth ruptured the ground beneath Gibeon's feet, causing him to fall into a fissure. Following his fall, Rystal's {{p|Terapagos}} [[Pagogo]] and Lucius's Pokémon the [[Six Heroes]] worked together to seal the Laquium inside a giant energy barrier, Lucius was trapped inside it and Rystal left the paradise.

Over time, Gibeon's role in Lucius's adventures was largely forgotten. He survived the fall thanks to the Laquium shard he had with him and eventually made his way down [[Mount Pericarp]] to [[Pericarp Town]], where his injuries were treated by the mother of a {{OBP|Matriarch|HZ084|3 year old girl}}. Using his Laquium shard, he was able to exploit the mist to extend his lifespan and survive into the present day. During this time, he organized the modern incarnation of the Explorers and founded the scientific research company known as [[Exceed]], with the goal of improving the lives of people and Pokémon alike. This included, but was not limited to, researching Laquium and its uses. Since then, he sought to break Pagogo's barrier and harvest the Laquium to better the lives of both [[human]]s and {{OBP|Pokémon|species}}.

He later met [[Hamber]], who had become lost and aimless in his path as an adventurer, but Gibeon guided and recruited him into the Explorers. He also sought to recruit Hamber's old friend [[Diana]], Lucius and Rystal's granddaughter, but she turned down Hamber's invitation. At one point, Gibeon also got married and fathered a [[Maria (Horizons)|daughter]], who would grow up and marry a man named [[Cervantis]]. Cervantis joined the Explorers and was apparently tasked with carrying on Gibeon's legacy, but through unknown circumstances, Cervantis strayed from this path and failed to live up to Gibeon's expectations, eventually being expelled from the Explorers. Cervantis and Gibeon's daughter had a child of their own, [[Amethio]], who Gibeon later brought into the Explorers with the same task, to find Laqua once again. At some point, Gibeon's daughter died in a car accident, but his reaction to this event is currently unknown.

Gibeon was mentioned for the first time in ''[[HZ004|The Treasure After the Storm!]]'', when [[Hamber]] questioned [[Amethio]] about the results of his mission.

In ''[[HZ006|The Ancient Poké Ball]]'', Gibeon appeared communicating with his Admins regarding Amethio's mission to [[Roy's hometown]]. Believing that Amethio did not carry out his mission properly, he dismissed him and sent [[Spinel]] to investigate the [[Rising Volt Tacklers]]. When all the members left the meeting, Hamber and Gibeon realized that they had finally found their true purpose.

In ''[[HZ025|Rivals in the Dark of Night!]]'', Gibeon contacted Hamber during the events in [[Galar]]. After the battle ended, Hamber was seen talking to Gibeon again by the monolith, informing him that events had finally begun to move again. Gibeon, in response, expressed that their wishes would soon come true.

In ''[[HZ034|Respective Departures]]'', Amethio sought an audience with Gibeon following his mission with the [[Black Rayquaza]] in the [[HZ033|previous episode]]. Gibeon, awakening, spoke to Amethio about the battle and inquired how he felt while fighting Rayquaza. After Amethio claimed that he felt Rayquaza was not taking the battle seriously, Gibeon suggested that it was either testing him or toying with him, then informed Amethio that Rayquaza and {{TP|Liko|Terapagos}} were the keys to his paradise, Laqua.

Gibeon made his first physical appearance in ''[[HZ045|From So Far Away]]''. He presided over another meeting of the Explorers following the failure of their plan to collectively battle the Black Rayquaza. In the light of their failure, he ordered a change of tactics, directing his subordinates to spy on the Rising Volt Tacklers and allow them to gather the Six Heroes, while also ordering [[Coral]] and the others to monitor Liko and Terapagos. Following the conclusion of the meeting, Gibeon was seen in his personal chamber, musing to himself about his desire to return to Laqua and how [[Lucius]]'s adventure wasn't yet over.

In ''[[HZ054|The Treasure of Eternity]]'', Gibeon summoned Amethio to meet with him in-person. During this meeting, it was revealed that Amethio was Gibeon's grandson, and his heir in the search for Laqua. Amethio swore he would prove himself worthy of carrying Gibeon's blood by finding the paradise and the [[Laquium]] within, thus succeeding where his father, Gibeon's son-in-law, had failed.

In ''[[HZ065|Liko and Amethio]]'', after an operation against the Rising Volt Tacklers concluded in [[Glaseado Mountain]], Spinel presented evidence that Amethio had betrayed the organization by allowing Liko to leave with Terapagos. The other admins believed his claim, while Hamber was willing to listen to his defense. He ordered Zygarde to unearth a large cluster of crystals, but was interrupted by Amethio, who warned him of Spinel's actions. Gibeon ignored his grandson's words and continued mining the Laquium, but to his shock, a still-living Lucius emerged from the crystals. Lucius revealed that through its Cells, Zygarde kept him informed of events happening in the modern day world outside of Laqua. Furious at this apparent betrayal, Gibeon had the Explorers use one of Spinel's machines to stimulate the Laquium, causing it to expand uncontrollably like it did a hundred years prior. Though their views regarding Laquium differed, Zygarde agreed to fight alongside Gibeon in order to battle Amethio and the Rising Volt Tacklers.

In ''[[HZ088|The Earthshaking White Zygarde]]'', Gibeon commanded Zygarde in a ferocious [[Pokémon battle|battle]] against Liko, Roy, Dot and Amethio. He easily dominated the four of them with Zygarde's immense power, but began losing control of his emotions once they landed hits on the [[legendary Pokémon]]. Finally, just when his victory seemed to be within reach, Liko's newly-evolved {{tp|Liko|Meowscarada}} was able to strike Zygarde with aid from Amethio's {{tp|Amethio|Ceruledge}}, convincing Zygarde of their abilities. As a result, Zygarde broke apart into its Cells and abandoned Gibeon. Realizing his defeat, Gibeon broke down completely, lashing out at Lucius over his perception that the latter's bloodline had once again destroyed his dreams. When Lucius told him that Liko and her allies' bonds with their Pokémon were the reason they could overcome him, and that Zygarde battled them in order to demonstrate this to him, Gibeon became contemplative and began pondering Zygarde's Poké Ball.

In ''[[HZ089|Where the Adventure Leads]]'', after his defeat Gibeon was informed by Lucius that Zygarde did care about him as its partner due to once having a good goal towards bettering the lives of people and Pokémon, causing Gibeon to feel more remorseful for his actions. After Pagogo used most of its power to destroy the Laquium crystals, Gibeon and Lucius started to fade away as the crystals that kept them alive are now destroyed. In the end, Gibeon reconciled with Lucius and even his grandson Amethio, praising him before fading away.

In his youth, Gibeon was a determined, scientifically-minded adventurer. He habitually gathered volumes of information on his goals, recording all of his research into [[Laqua]] on a scroll that reached a significant length. He also did not tolerate what he deemed as foolishness regarding topics such as whether Laqua existed or not. Although he was generally flat emotionally, he did display some signs of appreciation and happiness during his time with [[Lucius]] and [[Rystal]]. When the three [[Explorers]] reached Laqua, he immediately tried to satisfy his scientific curiosity, seeking to understand how the paradise gained its rich environment.

However, following the discovery of [[Laquium]], Gibeon's personality changed significantly for the worse for the long years. He grew maniacal and reckless in his efforts to cultivate more Laquium, behaving in a way that displayed no concern over the rampaging Pokémon around him or the risk to the world posed by the Laquium's growth. When [[White Zygarde|his Zygarde]] turned against him and tried to seal the Laquium, Gibeon grew enraged and berated it for its betrayal. He also came to view Lucius's attempts to seal away the Laquium as a personal betrayal as well. In his obsession with the Laquium, Gibeon had come to believe that the destruction of the world by its growth would be an acceptable price to pay in creating a new order of only those strong enough to withstand its effects.

Many years later, Gibeon initially appeared to be a calm, detached leader of the Explorers, mostly delegating the day-to-day work of running his followers to [[Hamber]]. He tended to directly involve himself only when major events relating to his goals took place and was pragmatic in managing his resources at these times, as seen when he replaced [[Amethio]] with [[Spinel]] on the mission to obtain [[Liko]]'s pendant. When he discovered that [[Hamber]], [[Coral]], and [[Sidian]] had gone to Galar in an attempt to confront the [[Rising Volt Tacklers]], he immediately contacted Hamber. However, Gibeon later overlooked this insubordination due to the value of the intelligence they had gathered. He was generally cold-hearted and callous, displaying a willingness to do anything regardless of morality to achieve his goals. Gibeon was also secretive in his activity; few knew that he was the chairman of Exceed, and no employees are known to have ever met him face-to-face. Gibeon's subordinates held him in high, almost reverential regard, typically referring to him as "Master Gibeon", behaving in a highly deferential way when in his presence, and identifying the Explorers as "only existing to fulfill" his wishes. His followers must specifically seek out time when they wish to speak to him, for which Gibeon awakens until he chooses to conclude that subordinate's audience with him.

Gibeon's hatred of betrayal has not diminished over the years, and he has disowned people who have disappointed him, even members of his family. He exiled [[Cervantis|his son-in-law]] from the Explorers when he strayed from the path of Gibeon's wishes, and they did the same after discovering his own grandson's apparent betrayal. He did not allow Amethio a chance to defend himself, instead assuming that he was going down the same path as Cervantis, dismissing him and considering him a disgrace for his actions. Even when Amethio later revealed Spinel's true plans to his grandfather, Gibeon seemed to find his initiative useful due to their shared interest in the crystals and considered his grandson a disappointment due to his belief that the Laquium was not a righteous thing. However, even after the intense accusations and quarrel, Gibeon was shocked when Amethio decided to walk in front of Lucius, apparently still considering him as his heir. But nevertheless, he was willing to fight against his grandson and [[Amethio's Ceruledge|his Ceruledge]] without hesitation when they sided with the Rising Volt Tacklers.

In ''[[HZ083|The Truth Revealed!]]'', it was shown that despite Gibeon being over 100 years old, he had aged slowly. Due to his advanced age, Gibeon's health was very poor, which caused him to be confined to an advanced wheelchair in a room filled with a mist resembling that given off by Laquium. When he did meet with someone directly instead of using his holographic monolith, they must speak with him from the other side of a barrier and cannot enter his chamber. In ''[[HZ086|The Rising Volt Tacklers vs. The Explorers!]]'' and ''[[HZ087|Guided by the Black Rayquaza!]]'', Gibeon was shown to have little mobility and rely on the use of his motorized wheelchair to navigate Laqua. He could not stand up on his own without the use of a special mechanism built into his clothing, which refined raw Laquium into mist that revitalized his frail body and gave him strength.

Gibeon had a complicated relationship with Rystal and Lucius. After the events in Laqua, since his companions were against his ideals of using Laquium to improve people and Pokémon's lives, Gibeon took their interference as a betrayal and that they did not understand his ideals. After he reunited with Lucius in the present day, Gibeon still resented him for what happened and refused to accept his apology even when Lucius revealed that they never meant to betray him and wished they could have talked more back then.

Despite the feeling of betrayal, however, Gibeon was unwilling to let his Zygarde go for a hundred years and was genuinely happy when it was able to regain its 50% Forme. Even after discovering that it had been plotting behind its Trainer's back and eventually freed Lucius, Gibeon still wanted Zygarde on his side and begged it to fight for him, reminding it of their partnership.

In ''[[HZ088|The Earthshaking White Zygarde]]'', when faced with his ultimate defeat as a result of Zygarde abandoning him, Gibeon suffered an emotional breakdown, lashing out about Lucius's bloodline once again destroying his dreams before contemplating Zygarde's [[Poké Ball]] while reflecting on Lucius's words. In ''[[HZ089|Where the Adventure Leads]]'', he once again suffered an emotional breakdown due to the crystals' destruction, but after Amethio and Lucius's speech, it seems that Gibeon slowly began to return to his brighter self. When it came time for him and his old friend to vanish, he accepted what had happened and was ready to move on, managing to reconcile with both Lucius and Amethio, encouraging the latter to follow his own path with his Ceruledge.

Initially, the Explorers were just a small group of adventurers formed only by [[Lucius]], Gibeon, and [[Rystal]], but were later reformed by Gibeon into a global organization for his personal use. The group has connections to Gibeon's company [[Exceed]], and uses its resources to conduct research on Laquium. Their goal is to reach the paradise [[Laqua]] and obtain a crystalline materium found there called [[Laquium]], for the benefit of [[Human|people]] and {{OBP|Pokémon|species}}. To this end, they pursued Rystal's {{P|Terapagos}}, [[Pagogo]] and Lucius's [[party]], the [[Six Heroes]]. This lead them to become the archenemies of the [[Rising Volt Tacklers]].

100 years prior to the events of the {{aniseries|HZ|series}}, the Explorers team was founded by the three adventurers [[Lucius]], [[Gibeon]], and [[Rystal]] during their journey to reach the Pokémon paradise [[Laqua]]. After a long trip, the trio reached the paradise, a beautiful place where [[Legendary Pokémon]] lived peacefully. Wondering how such a prosperous environment was created, they explored further in and discovered some pink crystals known as [[Laquium]], which stimulated the growth of the plants around it, so much actually that it started devastating the land. Lucius and Rystal decided to leave Laqua, worried that the crystal could influence them. However, Gibeon disagreed and started using his [[White Zygarde]] to dig the crystals out, fascinated by their powers, but the crystals started to expand and spread its mist around, causing many [[wild Pokémon]] to go feral. Fearing they might bring the destruction of the [[Pokémon world|world]], Lucius sent his [[Six Heroes]] out, led by his [[Black Rayquaza]] to try and stop it. Even Zygarde attempted to help, betraying its trainer as a result, but their efforts only caused even more destruction and most of Zygarde's [[Zygarde Cell|Cells]] being blown away. The crystals' expansion suddenly created a fissure on the ground into which Gibeon fell in, presumed to be dead, but Lucius and Rystal still refused to give up. In response to their determination, Rystal's {{P|Terapagos}}, [[Pagogo]], absorbed the mist and transformed into its {{Form|Terapagos|Stellar Form}}, passed some of its power to the Six Heroes, and, alongside them, stopped the Laquium's expansion by sealing it within a giant energy barrier. Lucius remained trapped inside it, while the devastated Rystal was able to escape and raised her and Lucius's daughter, {{OBP|Layla|Horizons}}, on her own.

After the Explorers separated, the organization was reformed by Gibeon, who survived his fall thanks to the power of a Laquium shard he had with him. He now sought to return to Laqua and reclaim Laquium and use its powers to better the lives of people and Pokémon. To do so, he started seeking Pagogo and the Six Heroes so they'd undo the barrier the Laquium was sealed in. He used the little Laquium he had to expand his lifespan so he had more time to reach his goal. He later enlisted his son-in-law, [[Cervantis]], to help him fulfill his wishes; however his son-in-law failed him and "strayed" from the path, leaving the Explorers and being placed as a figurehead director of a company that Gibeon had founded to improve the lives of humans and Pokémon, including researching Laquium, [[Exceed]]. After Cervantis left the Explorers, his son, [[Amethio]], joined in to make up for his father's failings.

At some point following Gibeon's refoundation of the organization, [[Hamber]] joined the Explorers in gratefulness for Gibeon's guidance in his aimless time as an adventurer. He became Gibeon's second-in-command and family butler, and was assigned with recruiting and training new talent for the organization. He recruited and trained Amethio, [[Coral]], [[Sidian]], and [[Chalce]] in that order to serve as admins. At some point along the way, [[Spinel]], a researcher at Exceed with a brilliant profile, caught the eye of Gibeon for his talent, and Gibeon personally recruited him as an admin. Eventually, Hamber approached [[Diana]], an old friend of his and unknowingly Lucius and Rystal's granddaughter, with an offer to join the organization under the pretext of introducing her to someone who could aid her adventures. However, this was actually an attempt to obtain her pendant, which was Pagogo's dormant form, but she refused to hand it over and escaped. After that, the Explorers decided to pursue the pendant until they found out that it was in the possession of Diana's granddaughter [[Liko]], at which point they decided to find her in order to take it. Eventually, they were able to find Liko attending [[Indigo Academy]] in the [[Kanto]] [[region]]. Upon discovering this, Hamber forged a letter under the guise of being written by Diana and ordered Amethio, alongside his two subordinates [[Zirc]] and [[Onia]], to visit Liko personally with the intention of having her hand over the pendant.

The Explorers debuted in ''[[HZ001|The Pendant That Starts It All (Part One)]]''. One day, [[Amethio]] approached Liko at Indigo Academy's dormitories and, while under the guise of a representative of Diana, lied about being entasked to pick up the pendant in order to return it to her grandmother. Feeling something was amiss, Liko attempted to escape from him and his cohorts, [[Zirc]] and [[Onia]], but ended up cornered on a rooftop until [[Friede]] swooped in at the right time and engaged Amethio in a battle. Upon witnessing the collateral damage the battle was causing, Liko tried to run away and almost got hit by a stray {{m|Psycho Cut}} if not by her pendant suddenly generating an energy field in order to shield her, which Friede used as an opening to escape with her to the [[Brave Olivine]]. The Explorers, however, did not give up and [[HZ002|followed them to the airship]], even amidst a vicious thunderstorm. There, Friede and Amethio clashed again, albeit briefly, as this time, Liko stepped in, having her {{TP|Liko|Sprigatito}} unleash a {{m|Leafage}} powerful enough to break the barrier around the battlefield and expose everyone to the unrelenting weather. This forced the Explorers to retreat, but not without taking the {{pkmn|category|Grass Cat Pokémon}} as a hostage.

'Cause Sprigatito's with Me!]]'', Amethio battled against Friede once again; this time, however, the {{pkmn|Professor}} was just distracting him to allow Liko to find Sprigatito in the warehouse where they were hiding. While this was happening, Zirc managed to plant a tracker on Brave Olivine's hull. This allowed for the Explorers to follow the ship all the way to [[Roy's hometown|Roy's island]] via submarine, where both parties clashed once more in ''[[HZ005|Found You, Fuecoco!]]'' and ''[[HZ006|The Ancient Poké Ball]]''. As Liko's Sprigatito and [[Roy]]'s soon-to-be {{TP|Roy|Fuecoco}} were being overwhelmed by [[Amethio's Ceruledge]], the girl's pendant synced with the boy's [[Ancient Poké Ball]], which finally opened up. From the artifact, emerged a mighty [[Black Rayquaza]], who indiscriminately rained devastation all over the beach with a singular {{m|Draco Meteor}}, forcing the Explorers to retreat. Later, during a meeting with the other Explorers' higher-ups, [[Gibeon]], the organization's leader, removed Amethio from the mission of collecting the pendant and assigned it to [[Spinel]]. Afterwards, Amethio communicated to Zirc and Onia that he was going to pursue the Black Rayquaza from now on, believing its connection with the pendant to hold the key to the mystery behind it.

In ''[[HZ012|The Future I Choose]]'', it was revealed that Spinel was spying on the [[Rising Volt Tacklers]] during their time in [[Paldea]] in order to learn more about them. The knowledge he acquired was put to use over the following episodes, as he commenced his attack on them. First, in ''[[HZ013|An Unexpected Picnic!]]'', he positioned his fleet of {{p|Magneton}} around the Brave Olivine to create an electromagnetic interference to mess with the data array of the ship, rendering it powerless during a system reboot. After successfully scaring them away at the beginning of the [[HZ014|following episode]], Friede followed one of the Magneton all the way to [[Levincia]], where he was ambushed by it and Spinel's {{p|Beheeyem}}, which were being commanded from a distance by their {{pkmn|Trainer}}, seemingly in order to have his strength tested. The next day, Spinel created a false advertisement for some Spicy [[Herba Mystica]] to lure Liko into a back alley in Levincia. There, he had his Beheeyem put her on a trance with its psychic powers, allowing him to collect her pendant without any mishaps. Over the [[HZ015|next episode]], a dazed Liko was left wandering around the city while the Rising Volt Tacklers were caught in a web of misinformation laid out by Spinel, which pointed her whereabouts to [[Artazon]] instead. At the end of the day, with the collective efforts of Roy and [[Dot]], she was able to fully regain her memory.

In ''[[HZ016|Quaxly, We Can Do It]]'', Friede and the young Rising Volt Tacklers begun their counterattack to find the culprit and get the pendant back. The Professor went after a leaving cruise, where he was greeted and challenged by a [[Trainer (HZ016)|mysterious man]]—this, however, was one more red herring from Spinel. While this was happening, Dot and her {{TP|Dot|Quaxly}} managed to pinpoint the pendant's location to a docked cargo ship and alerted her friends. The three of them battled against Spinel's Magneton and Beheeyem and won, but were no match for his {{p|Umbreon}}. At that moment, backed up against a wall, Liko's feelings begun resonating with the pendant, which shone brightly and gave Spinel's hiding location away. After Sprigatito returned the item to her Trainer, the pendant activated again and released {{TP|Lucius|Arboliva}} of the Six Heroes from its Ancient Poké Ball. Then, the group grabbed hold of the {{pkmn|category|Olive Pokémon}}'s arms before it jumped overboard, leaving Spinel at the ship with the understanding that Liko herself is the key to the pendant's secrets.

In ''[[HZ021|The Lonely Hatenna]]'', Amethio, Zirc, and Onia arrived in [[Galar]] after tracking the Black Rayquaza to [[Galar Mine]]. In the [[HZ022|following episode]], their path once again crossed with the Rising Volt Tacklers': Amethio immediately engaged Friede in battle, while Zirc and Onia faced off against Roy, Liko, and [[Captain Pikachu]]. However, the battles came to a rather abrupt end when a {{rf|Galarian}} {{TP|Lucius|Moltres}} with an Ancient Poké Ball appeared and started attacking them. At the end of the [[HZ023|next episode]], it was revealed that the Explorers had witnessed the recapture of Moltres and Liko's pendant turning into a [[Pagogo|mysterious Pokémon]], with Amethio deciding to go after the Rising Volt Tacklers in order to steal it.

In ''[[HZ024|Reunion at the Ancient Castle!]]'', Amethio, Zirc, and Onia reported their findings to Hamber, who quickly contacted other Admins to head with him to the Galar region: he recruited [[Coral]] and [[Sidian]], as Spinel and [[Chalce]] were occupied in the Explorers' laboratory. Amethio's team followed Liko, Roy, and Friede to an [[ancient castle]] near [[Hammerlocke]], where they surrounded them in order to take the mysterious Pokémon away. The confrontation extended into the [[HZ025|following episode]] and ended up with Amethio's first official loss to Friede. Meanwhile, Hamber and his {{p|Dusknoir}} arrived at the place and confronted Diana, who questioned him about the Explorers' motives to target them. Then, a commotion provided by the arrival of Coral and Sidian allowed for her to escape the scene, as well as for Amethio's team to leave before being caught in the crossfire. The two Admins cornered Liko and Roy, only for Captain Pikachu to arrive and rescue them, fending off her {{p|Glalie}} and his {{p|Garganacl}} at once. This, however, made Coral snap and recklessly order her Glalie to use {{m|Self-Destruct}}, allowing the Rising Volt Tacklers to escape and leaving the ancient castle in ruins.

In ''[[HZ027|As Long as I'm with My Friends]]'', while the Rising Volt Tacklers had been once again caught in false information spread by Spinel, the Explorers Admins had a meeting to discuss their next move. They eventually concluded that the best course of action would be pursuing the Black Rayquaza itself instead of Terapagos in order to stay ahead. In ''[[HZ033|Roar of the Black Rayquaza]]'', Amethio's team detected the Black Rayquaza in the [[Lapras Sea]], and as such they immediately went after it. However, despite his best efforts, he lost very easily when trying to battle it. Amethio also witnessed Terapagos transforming into its {{form|Terapagos|Terastal Form}} as it conjured up its strength in order to protect Liko. In the [[HZ034|following episode]], after asking Hamber to train him in order to become stronger, they held a training match between their {{type|Ghost}} Pokémon, which ended up with a victory to Hamber after he {{Tera}}stallized his Dusknoir. Afterwards, he gave a [[Tera Orb]] to Amethio and set him in the direction of mastering the Terastal phenomenon in order to draw out its full power.

After Amethio's failure, Spinel came up with a new plan to catch the Black Rayquaza, aided by Coral, Sidian, and Chalce. Prior to ''[[HZ042|Transform! Hero of the Seas, Palafin]]'', the Explorers led the construction of a tower on an island near Levincia as part of the plan, which the Rising Volt Tacklers were made aware of in ''[[HZ043|A Challenge from the Explorers]]'' and started being enacted in ''[[HZ044|The Plan to Capture Rayquaza]]''. The tower itself was a red herring; its true purpose was to separate Friede from the rest of the group. The real plan involved attracting Rayquaza by simulating Terapagos's energy signature through a resonance generator, wearing it down by attacking it with powerful, super effective moves, and finally catching it in an [[Ultra Ball]]. The Rising Volt Tacklers managed to stall the Explorers for time enough to allow Dot to create a shutdown program and disable the resonance generator, allowing Rayquaza to free itself from the onslaught of attacks, Rayquaza then unleashed another Draco Meteor attack which ruined the Explorers' efforts. Once again, Coral let her temper overcome her better judgment and commanded Glalie to use Self-Destruct, which collided with Rayquaza's {{m|Dragon Pulse}}. The resulting explosion was powerful enough to blast the Legendary Pokémon directly into the hull of the Brave Olivine. In the [[HZ045|following episode]], the four Admins retreated. As Liko, Roy, and Friede were battling against the Black Rayquaza, Amethio arrived at the scene and worked in conjunction with them. Despite his Ceruledge and [[Friede's Charizard]] having Terastallized, they ended up defeated by a single {{m|Dragon Ascent}}. At the end of the episode, the admins had another meeting and were instructed by Gibeon to stay low and wait for the Rising Volt Tacklers to gather the Six Heroes for them, but to still keep their eyes on them for the time being. In the [[HZ047|following episode]], Cornbread attempted to challenge [[Katy]] for her [[Tera Training]], but she lost to [[Liko]] in a cake-baking contest and was disqualified. At some point, Cornbread and Seasoning were approved in the Tera Training after battling [[Kofu]] and [[Tulip]], respectively. In ''[[HZ050|Trending Terastallization! Dance, Dance, Quaxly!]]'', Cornbread and Seasoning were briefly noticed by director [[Clavell]] while they were watching Liko, Roy, and Dot making their way to Dot's battle against [[Iono]].

In ''[[HZ054|The Treasure of Eternity]]'', while [[Friede]] was investigating about the [[Laquium|Treasure of Eternity]] in the [[Exceed]] company that he once worked in, [[Spinel]] made his efforts useless and stole the piece of Treasure of Eternity, which in reality was a piece of Laquium. In the same episode, Hamber and Amethio had a face to face meeting with Gibeon, revealing he's Amethio's grandfather. Gibeon explained that they needed more Laquium and that Terapagos's "awakening" was the key to Laqua. Amethio also claimed he's nothing like his father, who failed the organization in the past. Amethio then got a report from Zirc and Onia who were spying on Spinel, resulting in Amethio intending on finding out what Spinel was up to.

In ''[[HZ055|Showdown! The Paldea Elite Four]]'', Cornbread battled [[Larry]] alongside Kofu while Seasoning battled [[Rika]] alongside Tulip, but they were both defeated.

In ''[[HZ064|The Approaching Shadow!]]'', Amethio tracked Spinel down to [[Glaseado Mountain]]. Aware he was being followed, Spinel lured Amethio away into an encounter with Liko, which led to a battle between the two. Just as it seemed that Amethio would win, Spinel interrupted the battle to test the Laquium on his {{p|Umbreon}}, turning it feral and much stronger. This angered Terapagos, who used its Terastal Form to destroy the Laquium shard and purify Umbreon of its effects. Noting he had acquired the results he was looking for, Spinel fled while Liko and Amethio chased after him. Unbeknownst to Liko and Amethio, Spinel was luring them into a trap and left them stranded inside a nearby cave. Elsewhere on the mountain, Coral and Sidian shedded their school disguises in order to stall Roy and Dot and prevent them from helping Liko. Aftewards, he told Chalce of Amethio's relationship with Gibeon, and that if they were to have a future, they would need to get him out of the way. Chalce agreed with his reasoning and began to collude with him, beginning the start of a schism in the organization.

In ''[[HZ065|Liko and Amethio]]'', when [[Grusha]] came to assist Roy and Dot, Coral and Sidian were ordered by Chalce to retreat. Later, at the Explorers headquarters, Spinel showed his allies footage of Amethio and Liko working together to escape the cave he trapped them in, framing it as an act of betrayal. Despite attempting to explain himself, Gibeon coldly refused to listen to Amethio and relieved him of all duties.

In ''[[HZ066|Infiltrating the System! Naranja Academy in Danger!]]'', the Explorers infiltrated Naranja Academy to steal information regarding Terapagos. Chalce had Sidian and Coral stand guard against interference while she worked on stealing the data. [[Penny]] found out about this and informed Dot and her friends to stop them. Sidian battled against Liko but was defeated despite Terastallizing his Garganacl which caused him to retreat. Coral, meanwhile, was defeated by Roy and was forced to retreat by Sidian much to her anger. Despite interference from Dot's Pokémon and Penny counter-hacking her attempts, Chalce was still able to steal the data about Terapagos before fleeing by teleporting with her {{p|Xatu}}.

In ''[[HZ067|Shine on, Terastallization! Liko vs. Roy!]]'', Chalce brought the data to Spinel, who began to study it in earnest. She also informed him that Hamber had asked her about the information, but she refused to divulge anything to him, leaving Spinel pleased.

In ''[[HZ079|Over the Top!]]'', Hamber ordered Coral and Sidian to follow the Rising Volt Tacklers to [[Area Zero]]. In [[HZ080|the next episode]], Coral separated from Sidian as they watched the group, met, and accidentally caught a {{p|Scream Tail}}, which she [[nickname]]d "Screamypuff" (オニプリン ''Onipurin''). In [[HZ081|the next one]], they both witnessed the battle between the Rising Volt Tacklers and [[Lucius's Gouging Fire]] and then the summoning of the remaining of the Six Heroes, Rayquaza. In ''[[HZ082|Beyond the Shining Rainbow]]'', after watching the Rising Volt Tacklers gain Rayquaza, Coral and Sidian left Area Zero to report their findings. After reporting their [[HZ083|findings]], Gibeon told everyone to prepare to head for Laqua. Meanwhile, Amethio and his allies intended to find out what Spinel was up to, but got caught. Fortunately, Hamber rescued them and informed of Gibeon's past with Lucius. After hearing this information, Amethio and his allies decided to head for Laqua in order to protect his grandfather.

In ''[[HZ084|Where the Land Meets the Sky]]'', Chalce spotted Friede talking to Liko, Roy, and Dot through the phone and returned to Exceed to tell the other Explorers about the Rising Volt Tacklers' presence there. In ''[[HZ085|The Pokémon Paradise of Laqua!]]'', Spinel confronted Friede while Coral, Sidian, and Chalce confronted Liko, Roy, and Dot after Pagogo removed the barrier around the Laquium. In [[HZ086|the next episode]], the four admins battled Friede and the younger members, which led to their defeat, but they bought Gibeon enough time to reach the Laquium.

In ''[[HZ087|Guided by the Black Rayquaza!]]'', Amethio attempted to warn Gibeon about Spinel's apparent betrayal, only to have his concerns dismissed. Gibeon ordered Zygarde to mine a large cluster of Laquium, but it shattered, revealing a still-living Lucius inside. Lucius explained that Zygarde asked Rayquaza to find Trainers capable of gathering the Six Heroes and restoring Pagogo to full strength in order to destroy the Laquium. Angered, Gibeon summoned the admins, who used machines to activate the Laquium core and make it grow uncontrollably. After convincing Zygarde to fight by his side, Gibeon confronted Amethio and the younger Rising Volt Tacklers to keep them from thwarting him.

In ''[[HZ088|The Earthshaking White Zygarde]]'', Gibeon commanded Zygarde in a ferocious battle against Liko, Roy, Dot and Amethio. Zygarde's immense power eventually overwhelmed Roy and Dot, but with clever use of teamwork, Liko's newly-evolved {{tp|Liko|Meowscarada}} was able to hit Zygarde with aid from Amethio's {{tp|Amethio|Ceruledge}}. Convinced by Liko and the others' strength, Zygarde forfeited the battle before breaking down into its component Cells and abandoning Gibeon. Devastated, Gibeon questioned how he was yet again foiled by someone of Lucius's bloodline before Lucius and Amethio explained it was the bond between Liko, her friends, and their Pokémon that led them to victory.

In ''[[HZ089|Where the Adventure Leads]]'', after Gibeon passed away due to the purification of the Laquium core, Spinel took over as the new leader of the organization. He also occupied Laqua for the Explorers and used his Laquium Sphere to drive the Six Heroes (except Rayquaza) berserk, causing the six of them to fight each other and inflict great destruction to the paradise. As seen in ''[[HZ091|Eyes to the Skies Once Again, Part 2]]'', in the aftermath of these events, the Explorers captured the rampaging heroes, holding them captive and dormant in their base. At some point, Amethio was separated from Zirc and Onia and went missing. Even though Spinel made a report claiming that he had betrayed the Explorers and perished in Laqua with Gibeon, Cervantis and Hamber did not believe it. A year after those events, Spinel reformed the Explorers, casting the group as a heroic organization to the public and putting the blame of the destruction in Laqua on the Rising Volt Tacklers instead. In ''[[HZ092|Following Traces of Laquium]]'', Hamber tasked Zirc and Onia to find Amethio and gather Gibeon's former [[Zygarde Cell]]s without letting Spinel know of their actions, giving them one of the Cells and a [[Zygarde Cube]] to help them in their task.

In ''[[HZ095|The Strong Sphere]]'', the Explorers were revealed to be creating [[Strong Sphere]]s, devices for Trainers to imbue their Pokémon with Laquium mist. Coral and Sidian were tasked with advertising the product, using it against Liko and Roy in a [[Double Battle]]. The Laquium-infused Pokémon easily defeated them without much input, causing it to be well received, as the public was unaware of the connection between the Strong Spheres and the phenomenon afflicting wild Pokémon.

In ''[[HZ099|Orla, Grounded]]'', a pair of Explorers members named [[Indi]] and [[Rubina]] debuted. They, along with two Exceed employees, were sent to pick up an order of Strong Sphere outer shells made by [[Karna]], only to be stopped by [[Ult]]. The employees tried to convince Karna of Exceed's good intentions, but after Liko and the others informed her of the truth, she angrily refused to work with them anymore. Indi and Rubina stepped in with the intention of taking the shells Karna made, only to realize that Liko and her friends were the Trainers who repeatedly got in the Explorers' way. They both sent out a {{rf|Paldean}} {{p|Tauros}} and used them to challenge Liko's group, using the Strong Spheres to boost their Pokémon. In the [[HZ100|next episode]], despite their use of Laquium, Liko's group managed to defeat the Explorers after exploiting a weakness in Laquium, forcing them to retreat. Indi and Rubina retreated alongside Exceed, reporting their failure to Spinel, who excused them and vowed to take down the Rising Volt Tacklers again.

In ''[[HZ101|Terastallization vs. Mega Evolution!]]'', Zirc and Onia continued their task of locating Amethio, being out at sea, though they had little success in objective. In [[HZ103]], Zirc and Onia told Liko that Amethio was missing and asked for her help personally to find him.

In [[HZ104]], after paying a visit to Amethio's mansion, Liko, Zirc and Onia, with help from [[Liko's Charcadet]] and Cervantis, found Amethio but in hiding to avoid being captured by Spinel's agents on an island off the coast of Levincia where he first met Ceruledge as a {{p|Charcadet}} which was their only family vacation years ago. Zirc and Onia begged Amethio to take Exceed and the Explorers back from Spinel, but he refused, stating that with Gibeon's passing, he was powerless to do anything. With words of encouragement from Liko and a battle with her Charcadet, Amethio managed to regain the resolve to fight against Spinel's machinations. Despite this, Amethio refused to go with Zirc and Onia, stating that as members of the Explorers, there were things they could accomplish on the inside that he couldn't. Accepting this, Zirc passed on the Zygarde Cube to Amethio before leaving the island with Onia. Afterward, Zirc and Onia reported to Hamber that Amethio was safe and sound, though Hamber was unaware that Chalce was monitoring him.

In [[HZ106]], Indi and Rubina attempted to trade with [[Rayu]], who had stolen Ult's [[Dusk Ball]] in order to exchange it for a Strong Sphere. Ult interrupted the transaction and a battle quickly occurred, with the two Explorers sending out a Unovan and Galarian {{p|Darmanitan}}. Though they had the upper hand due to Rayu's {{p|Grafaiai}} being inexperienced, the tide quickly turned against them when the Dusk Ball reacted to Ult's feelings, revealing a {{p|Dragonite}} that easily overwhelmed both Darmanitan, forcing them to retreat. In the [[HZ107|following episode]], they met with Spinel, who quickly discovered Ult eavesdropping on them and had him taken into custody, though his {{p|Sableye}} was able to escape and discovered Roy. While observing him, Chalce expressed concern about Spinel's hastiness, but he told her that Amethio's return had complicated matters. Roy later found and freed Ult, only for Indi and Rubina to quickly discover them and result in another battle. This time, they were assisted by four {{p|Rabsca}} that were emitting {{m|Gravity}}, getting the upper hand, even against Dragonite. Ult's resolve to protect the ones he cared resulted in the discovery of his Dragonite being able to [[Mega Evolution|Mega Evolve]], and Mega Dragonite easily defeated the enemies, while Roy and his Mega {{p|Lucario}} defeated Indi and Rubina, taking advantage of the opening to escape.

In [[HZ108]], the Rising Volt Tacklers decided to contact Amethio's father, Cervantis, for information about the Six Heroes. Cervantes agreed to do so, though the message was intercepted by the Explorers.

In [[HZ109]], Coral and Sidian were continuing to promote the Strong Spheres in [[Galar]] when they attempted to get some leisure time after one such event. However, they were swarmed by their fans, though a [[Manager (HZ109)|manager]] arrived and took them away. The manager revealed to the two that they were told to head to an unknown location in Paldea, hiring a Galarian Cabbie to do so. The cabbie initially refused until seeing Coral, and when Coral refused to go, the manager forced her inside. On the way, they were knocked down by a Tinkatuff, which was shortly followed up by Dot and her Pokémon. Although Sidian wished to head to their destination, Coral refused and battled Dot. Tinkatuff was able to forge a new hammer from Corviknight's feathers, evolving into {{p|Tinkaton}} and sending Glalie flying away with a {{m|Brutal Swing}}, prompting the two admins to chase after it. Meanwhile, Indi and Rubina confronted Liko, Roy and Ult at the warehouse instead of Cervantis.

In [[HZ110]], Indi and Rubina with three other agents used the Super Strong Sphere on five of the Six Heroes to battle Liko, Roy, and Ult, as this was Spinel's plan to take down the Rising Volt Tacklers by using their allies against them. In the [[HZ111|next episode]], despite the Heroes knocking out most of Liko, Roy, Ult, and Amethio's Pokémon with help from Coral and Sidian, they ended up retreating after the effects of the Super Strong Spheres worn off on the five Pokémon.

Cervantis was the son-in-law of the [[Explorers]] boss, [[Gibeon]]. As a younger man he married Gibeon's daughter, {{OBP|Maria|Horizons}}, and had a son, [[Amethio]]. Cervantis was later placed as the figurehead director of [[Exceed]], a scientific research company founded by Gibeon.

During his time as an employee at Exceed, [[Friede]] became friendly with Cervantis. Cervantis's son, Amethio, would go on to become a follower of Gibeon.

In ''[[HZ054|The Treasure of Eternity]]'', Friede arrived in the office of his former boss and apologized for having left the company in the past for his own selfish reasons, but Cervantis was quick to forgive him. Later, after Amethio finished meeting with his grandfather, Amethio mentioned that he was nothing like his father and that he would obtain more Laquium. This could suggest that Cervantis was once asked by Gibeon to acquire Laquium for the Explorers, and that Cervantis either failed or refused to do so.

In ''[[HZ078|Entei's Fierce Battle Cry!]]'', Amethio met with Cervantis before leaving. Shortly after, [[Spinel]] met with Cervantis, aware that he was Amethio's father.

In ''[[HZ083|The Truth Revealed!]]'', Amethio discovered that Spinel had completely infiltrated Exceed and was running the company without Cervantis's consent, having co-opted the company's security team and acting without Cervantis suspecting anything.

In ''[[HZ089|Where the Adventure Leads]]'', a year after Gibeon's death, it was revealed that Cervantis was no longer the director of Exceed and that Spinel had taken over all operations that were run by Gibeon.

In ''[[HZ092|Following Traces of Laquium]]'', [[Hamber]] revealed that Cervantis resigned from his position after Gibeon's death and that they both did not believe Spinel's reports that Amethio was to blame for it.

In [[HZ104]], while working at an Exceed factory, Cervantis received a call from [[Zirc]] and [[Onia]], who asked for a clue that would help them determine Amethio's whereabouts. Before he could answer, Spinel entered the room to do an inspection. Cervantis asked Spinel what the [[Strong Sphere]]s really were, but was denied a clear answer before Spinel left. Afterward, he sent Zirc and Onia a message containing the information they requested.

In [[HZ109]], it was revealed that Cervantis responded to a message from [[Liko]], in which he asked if he could meet with the Rising Volt Tacklers in person. The email later turned out to be a trap orchestrated by the Explorers. In the [[HZ110|next episode]], it was revealed that Cervantis was held captive by the Explorers for going against Spinel and his power project, later, he was released by [[Dot]] and [[Hamber]] and revealed to them the existence of the Super Strong Sphere, a more powerful and improved version of the previous Strong Sphere. In the [[HZ111|following episode]], Cervantis with his group arrivied too late, as Amethio, Liko, [[Roy]], and [[Ult]] have been defeated by five of the [[Six Heroes]]. Through Amethio's convincing, Cervantis decided to stop Spinel as he joins his son in helping gather more Zygarde Cells with Hamber accompanying them, before bidding Liko and her group farewell.

In [[HZ119]], Cervantis was contacted by a video call from Dot in secret and informed about the Exceed Museum which is actually a data center with the Laquium Data stored inside but it's protected from external connections. In [[HZ120]], it was revealed that he acted to get Dot and [[Penny]] inside the Museum facilities, however it was revealed that his access to Exceed was revoked and this caused them to attract the attention of the Explorers.

==Character==
Cervantis appears to be an ethical and fair person, having a long history of friendship with [[Friede]]. In ''[[HZ083|The Truth Revealed!]]'', it was revealed that Cervantis appears to have a complicated relationship with [[Amethio]], who considers [[Hamber]] to be his real father. Though he is shown as being harsh to Amethio when he begged him for information regarding [[Gibeon]], Cervantis did not believe that his son was responsible for the failures in [[Laqua]] and has carefully given information to those who are searching for him behind [[Spinel]]'s back.

It is unknown what kind of relationship Cervantis had with his wife, {{OBP|Maria|Horizons}}, but as shown in ''[[HZ054|The Treasure of Eternity]]'', he continues to wear his wedding ring even years after her death, suggesting that they had been a close couple.

In ''[[HZ089|Where the Adventure Leads]]'', a year after the Laqua incident, Spinel became Exceed's director.

In ''[[HZ091|Eyes to the Skies Once Again, Part 2]]'', it was revealed that Exceed had obtained permission to close down the former Laqua site and held the [[Rising Volt Tacklers]] responsible for the incident, as well as making the Explorers public and some sort of heroes in the public's eyes. This led to the Explorers becoming celebrities in the public eye, in a direction quite contrary to what actually happened and to Gibeon's objectives.

In ''[[HZ092|Following Traces of Laquium]]'', it was revealed that Spinel released a report holding Amethio responsible for what happened in Laqua, and perishing along with Gibeon instead, which caused Cervantis to decide to resign from his position at Exceed. This situation made [[Hamber]] decide to conduct his own investigation into everything that happened during this period.

With power over the Laqua area, Exceed began extracting the Laquium that still existed there and creating products based on it. One of these products began to attract public attention, and in ''[[HZ094|The Pokémon Center Lady]]'' and ''[[HZ095|The Strong Sphere]]'', Liko and Roy learned of the existence of something called the [[Strong Sphere]]. Upon investigating, they discovered that a company base in [[Mochew City]] was going to hold a public demonstration of this item. For the demonstration of the brand new Strong Sphere, they invited several {{pkmn|Trainer}}s such as [[Ult]] and [[Dash]] to watch and see the product in action. Liko and Roy infiltrated the event and soon after faced [[Coral]] and [[Sidian]] and although the battle did not go as Exceed wanted, it was revealed by [[Dot]] that the demonstration was a great success on the internet and had a positive repercussion.

In ''[[HZ097|The Prankster]]'', it was indicated that Exceed did a similar event in the [[Paldea]] [[region]].

In ''[[HZ099|Orla, Grounded]]'', it was revealed that the corporation hired [[Karna]] to create the sphere's exterior, refusing to tell her about its purpose. After learning the truth from the Rising Volt Tacklers, Karna ended her collaboration with the group. In the [[HZ100|next episode]], [[Indi]] and [[Rubina]] reported to Spinel at the Exceed office about their encounter with the Rising Volt Tacklers. Satisfied with the information, Spinel asked them to keep up the good work.

In ''[[HZ101|Terastallization vs. Mega Evolution!]]'', it was revealed that the information released by Exceed reached [[Naranja Academy]], but [[Geeta]] and [[Clavell]] rejected Exceed's narrative and sided with the Rising Volt Tacklers while doing their own research on Laquium.

In [[HZ104]], it was revealed that Cervantis had been transferred to an Exceed factory. During a conversation with Zirc and Onia, he was interrupted by Spinel's arrival. When questioned by the current Exceed president about the Strong Sphere's launch, Spinel assured him that everything was going according to plan.

In [[HZ106]], an Exceed subordinate was seen delivering a shipment of Strong Spheres to a local shopkeeper. After being approached by [[Rayu]], Indi and Rubina decided to exchange a Strong Sphere for a [[Dusk Ball]], but were stopped by Ult, who was the true owner of the item. After being defeated in a Pokémon battle, both the subordinate and the two Explorers left the place.

In [[HZ116]], [[Carmine]] revealed that the false information disseminated by Exceed regarding the Rising Volt Tacklers had reached [[Blueberry Academy]].

Operating in the shadows, Cervantis contacted Dot in [[HZ119]]. During their conversation, he revealed the existence of the Exceed Museum, a location where all the servers containing information about Laquium were being stored.

One of these Trainers fought against [[Dash]] to promote the [[Strong Sphere]], but he lost the battle after Dash used the new product.

Two other members of this team tried to make [[Liko]] and [[Roy]] use the Strong Sphere, but without success. After that, [[Ult]] took one of these items but decided to break the Strong Sphere after realizing the harm this item had on Pokémon.

This view is quite different from Gibeon or [[Lucius]]'s view that the Explorers were more of an adventuring group and not {{wp|influencer}}s and celebrities.

In ''[[HZ099|Orla, Grounded]]'', two Exceed subordinates attempted to take a batch of Strong Spheres from [[Karna's Poké Ball factory]], but were stopped by [[Ult]]. Despite their assurances that it was safe, [[Karna]], with her strong sense of justice, decided to end the negotiation. This caused [[Indi]] and [[Rubina]] to join the discussion. In the [[HZ100|next episode]], they appeared wanting information from Indi and Rubina about what the next steps would be after the duo was defeated by the [[Rising Volt Tacklers]].

In [[HZ106]], another Exceed subordinate was seen delivering a shipment of Strong Spheres to a local business. After being approached by Rayu and offered a [[Dusk Ball]] for the item, Indi and Rubina took over the conversation.

In [[HZ109]], a woman introduced as the {{OBP|manager|HZ109}} appeared, delegating orders and being responsible for scheduling events related to [[Sidian]] and [[Coral]]. Unlike the previous characters, this character has a firmer and tougher stance, even when faced with Coral's difficult temperament.

At some point in the past, Gibeon met and caught a {{Shiny|White}} [[White Zygarde|Zygarde]] as his partner due to their shared wish to bring happiness to Pokémon and people. 100 years prior to the events of the series, Gibeon was a traveling {{pkmn|Trainer}} searching for the Pokémon paradise [[Laqua]] alongside his Zygarde. One day, while at a saloon, he overheard two other patrons deriding a pair of travelers who had come to ask for information regarding Laqua. He presented them with an extensive document of all the research he had conducted proving Laqua existed. Later, the two travelers, [[Lucius]] and [[Rystal]], invited him to accompany them on their {{pkmn|journey}} to locate the paradise, and he agreed. The group adopted the name of the [[Explorers]] and traveled around the {{pkmn|world}}, ultimately locating Laqua after several days lost at sea.

In Laqua, Gibeon studied the local Pokémon, seeking to understand what could have created such a lush environment. The trio pushed on deeper into Laqua, discovering evidence of plant life that had withered from an unknown force. They eventually came across a growth of pink crystals named [[Laquium]] that generate a pink mist. Gibeon approached the growth to take a sample, observing the intense levels of energy the crystal possessed. Lucius, fearing what kind of effect the crystals could have on his group, instructed Gibeon and Rystal to leave Laqua with him, while Rystal agreed, Gibeon did not listen. Driven mad by the power of the mist, Gibeon used Zygarde in an attempt to force more crystals to grow, unleashing more mist in the process. The mist, in turn, caused the Pokémon nearby to begin rampaging, forcing Lucius and Rystal to fight them off. Zygarde, realizing the effect the mist was having on its Trainer, shed some of its cells in an attempt to seal the crystals' energy away, but this measure failed. The crystals' explosive growth ruptured the ground beneath Gibeon's feet, causing him to fall into a fissure. Following his fall, Rystal's {{p|Terapagos}} [[Pagogo]] and Lucius's Pokémon the [[Six Heroes]] worked together to seal the Laquium inside a giant energy barrier, Lucius was trapped inside it and Rystal left the paradise.

Over time, Gibeon's role in Lucius's adventures was largely forgotten. He survived the fall thanks to the Laquium shard he had with him and eventually made his way down [[Mount Pericarp]] to [[Pericarp Town]], where his injuries were treated by the mother of a {{OBP|Matriarch|HZ084|3 year old girl}}. Using his Laquium shard, he was able to exploit the mist to extend his lifespan and survive into the present day. During this time, he organized the modern incarnation of the Explorers and founded the scientific research company known as [[Exceed]], with the goal of improving the lives of people and Pokémon, as well as researching Laquium. Since then, he sought to break Pagogo's barrier and harvest the Laquium to better the lives of both [[human]]s and {{OBP|Pokémon|species}}.

He later met [[Hamber]], who had become lost and aimless in his path as an adventurer, but Gibeon guided and recruited him into the Explorers. He also sought to recruit Hamber's old friend [[Diana]], Lucius and Rystal's granddaughter, but she turned down Hamber's invitation. At one point, Gibeon also got married and fathered a [[Maria (Horizons)|daughter]], who would grow up and marry a man named [[Cervantis]]. Cervantis joined the Explorers and was apparently tasked with carrying on Gibeon's legacy, but through unknown circumstances, Cervantis strayed from this path and failed to live up to Gibeon's expectations, eventually being expelled from the Explorers. Cervantis and Gibeon's daughter had a child of their own, [[Amethio]], who Gibeon later brought into the Explorers with the same task, to find Laqua once again. At some point, Gibeon's daughter died in a car accident, but his reaction to this event is currently unknown.

Gibeon was mentioned for the first time in ''[[HZ004|The Treasure After the Storm!]]'', when [[Hamber]] questioned [[Amethio]] about the results of his mission.

In ''[[HZ006|The Ancient Poké Ball]]'', Gibeon appeared communicating with his Admins regarding Amethio's mission to [[Roy's hometown]]. Believing that Amethio did not carry out his mission properly, he dismissed him and sent [[Spinel]] to investigate the [[Rising Volt Tacklers]]. When all the members left the meeting, Hamber and Gibeon realized that they had finally found their true purpose.

In ''[[HZ025|Rivals in the Dark of Night!]]'', Gibeon contacted Hamber during the events in [[Galar]]. After the battle ended, Hamber was seen talking to Gibeon again by the monolith, informing him that events had finally begun to move again. Gibeon, in response, expressed that their wishes would soon come true.

In ''[[HZ034|Respective Departures]]'', Amethio sought an audience with Gibeon following his mission with the [[Black Rayquaza]] in the [[HZ033|previous episode]]. Gibeon, awakening, spoke to Amethio about the battle and inquired how he felt while fighting Rayquaza. After Amethio claimed that he felt Rayquaza was not taking the battle seriously, Gibeon suggested that it was either testing him or toying with him, then informed Amethio that Rayquaza and {{TP|Liko|Terapagos}} were the keys to his paradise, Laqua.

Gibeon made his first physical appearance in ''[[HZ045|From So Far Away]]''. He presided over another meeting of the Explorers following the failure of their plan to collectively battle the Black Rayquaza. In the light of their failure, he ordered a change of tactics, directing his subordinates to spy on the Rising Volt Tacklers and allow them to gather the Six Heroes, while also ordering [[Coral]] and the others to monitor Liko and Terapagos. Following the conclusion of the meeting, Gibeon was seen in his personal chamber, musing to himself about his desire to return to Laqua and how [[Lucius]]'s adventure wasn't yet over.

In ''[[HZ054|The Treasure of Eternity]]'', Gibeon summoned Amethio to meet with him in-person. During this meeting, it was revealed that Amethio was Gibeon's grandson, and his heir in the search for Laqua. Amethio swore he would prove himself worthy of carrying Gibeon's blood by finding the paradise and the [[Laquium]] within, thus succeeding where his father, Gibeon's son-in-law, had failed.

In ''[[HZ065|Liko and Amethio]]'', after an operation against the Rising Volt Tacklers concluded in [[Glaseado Mountain]], Spinel presented evidence that Amethio had betrayed the organization by allowing Liko to leave with Terapagos. The other admins believed his claim, while Hamber was willing to listen to his defense. Before Amethio could explain anything, Gibeon chimed in, questioning whether Amethio was straying from the path much like his son-in-law did. He then made the decision to expel Amethio, seemingly unaware that he was being manipulated by Spinel and coldly told his grandson not to show his face again after his expulsion.

In ''[[HZ075|The Wonders of the World!]]'', Liko and the Rising Volt Tacklers learned about the Explorers' past from Rystal after summoning her through time at the [[Crystal Pool]]. Gibeon was later seen resting in his chamber while Spinel and [[Chalce]] schemed to usurp the position at his side once he returned to Laqua.

In ''[[HZ083|The Truth Revealed!]]'', Gibeon was informed by [[Sidian]] that the Rising Volt Tacklers had successfully obtained the Six Heroes, restored Terapagos to full strength, and had left to find Laqua. He told the Explorers that they would ambush the Rising Volt Tacklers in Laqua once the seal had been lifted. Later, in a meeting with Spinel and Chalce, Gibeon expressed his joy at the anticipation of finally obtaining more Laquium.

In ''[[HZ086|The Rising Volt Tacklers vs. The Explorers!]]'', with the barrier to Laqua removed, Gibeon began heading towards where the Laquium was located. Accompanied only by his Zygarde, Gibeon muttered to himself about finally achieving his goals as he approached his destination.

In ''[[HZ087|Guided by the Black Rayquaza!]]'', Gibeon made it to the Laquium and witnessed Zygarde retrieve its missing Cells, allowing it to become its 50% Forme. He ordered Zygarde to unearth a large cluster of crystals, but was interrupted by Amethio, who warned him of Spinel's actions. Gibeon ignored his grandson's words and continued mining the Laquium, but to his shock, a still-living Lucius emerged from the crystals. Lucius revealed that through its Cells, Zygarde kept him informed of events happening in the modern day world outside of Laqua. Furious at this apparent betrayal, Gibeon had the Explorers use one of Spinel's machines to stimulate the Laquium, causing it to expand uncontrollably like it did a hundred years prior. Though their views regarding Laquium differed, Zygarde agreed to fight alongside Gibeon in order to battle Amethio and the Rising Volt Tacklers.

In ''[[HZ088|The Earthshaking White Zygarde]]'', Gibeon commanded Zygarde in a ferocious [[Pokémon battle|battle]] against Liko, Roy, Dot and Amethio. He easily dominated the four of them with Zygarde's immense power, but began losing control of his emotions once they landed hits on the [[legendary Pokémon]]. Finally, just when his victory seemed to be within reach, Liko's newly-evolved {{tp|Liko|Meowscarada}} was able to strike Zygarde with aid from Amethio's {{tp|Amethio|Ceruledge}}, convincing Zygarde of their abilities. As a result, Zygarde broke apart into its Cells and abandoned Gibeon. Realizing his defeat, Gibeon broke down completely, lashing out at Lucius over his perception that the latter's bloodline had once again destroyed his dreams. When Lucius told him that Liko and her allies' bonds with their Pokémon were the reason they could overcome him, and that Zygarde battled them in order to demonstrate this to him, Gibeon became contemplative and began pondering Zygarde's Poké Ball.

In ''[[HZ089|Where the Adventure Leads]]'', after his defeat Gibeon was informed by Lucius that Zygarde did care about him as its partner due to once having a good goal towards bettering the lives of people and Pokémon, causing Gibeon to feel more remorseful for his actions. After Pagogo used most of its power to destroy the Laquium crystals, Gibeon and Lucius started to fade away as the crystals that kept them alive are now destroyed. In the end, Gibeon reconciled with Lucius and even his grandson Amethio, praising him before fading away.

In his youth, Gibeon was a determined, scientifically-minded adventurer. He habitually gathered volumes of information on his goals, recording all of his research into [[Laqua]] on a scroll that reached a significant length. He also did not tolerate what he deemed as foolishness regarding topics such as whether Laqua existed or not. Although he was generally flat emotionally, he did display some signs of appreciation and happiness during his time with [[Lucius]] and [[Rystal]]. When the three [[Explorers]] reached Laqua, he immediately tried to satisfy his scientific curiosity, seeking to understand how the paradise gained its rich environment.

However, following the discovery of [[Laquium]], Gibeon's personality changed significantly for the worse for the long years. He grew maniacal and reckless in his efforts to cultivate more Laquium, behaving in a way that displayed no concern over the rampaging Pokémon around him or the risk to the world posed by the Laquium's growth. When [[White Zygarde|his Zygarde]] turned against him and tried to seal the Laquium, Gibeon grew enraged and berated it for its betrayal. He also came to view Lucius's attempts to seal away the Laquium as a personal betrayal as well. In his obsession with the Laquium, Gibeon had come to believe that the destruction of the world by its growth would be an acceptable price to pay in creating a new order of only those strong enough to withstand its effects.

Many years later, Gibeon initially appeared to be a calm, detached leader of the Explorers, mostly delegating the day-to-day work of running his followers to [[Hamber]]. He tended to directly involve himself only when major events relating to his goals took place and was pragmatic in managing his resources at these times, as seen when he replaced [[Amethio]] with [[Spinel]] on the mission to obtain [[Liko]]'s pendant. When he discovered that [[Hamber]], [[Coral]], and [[Sidian]] had gone to Galar in an attempt to confront the [[Rising Volt Tacklers]], he immediately contacted Hamber. However, Gibeon later overlooked this insubordination due to the value of the intelligence they had gathered. He was generally cold-hearted and callous, displaying a willingness to do anything regardless of morality to achieve his goals. Gibeon was also secretive in his activity; few knew that he was the chairman of Exceed, and no employees are known to have ever met him face-to-face. Gibeon's subordinates held him in high, almost reverential regard, typically referring to him as "Master Gibeon", behaving in a highly deferential way when in his presence, and identifying the Explorers as "only existing to fulfill" his wishes. His followers must specifically seek out time when they wish to speak to him, for which Gibeon awakens until he chooses to conclude that subordinate's audience with him.

Gibeon's hatred of betrayal has not diminished over the years, and he has disowned people who have disappointed him, even members of his family. He exiled [[Cervantis|his son-in-law]] from the Explorers when he strayed from the path of Gibeon's wishes, and they did the same after discovering his own grandson's apparent betrayal. He did not allow Amethio a chance to defend himself, instead assuming that he was going down the same path as Cervantis, dismissing him and considering him a disgrace for his actions. Even when Amethio later revealed Spinel's true plans to his grandfather, Gibeon seemed to find his initiative useful due to their shared interest in the crystals and considered his grandson a disappointment due to his belief that the Laquium was not a righteous thing. However, even after the intense accusations and quarrel, Gibeon was shocked when Amethio decided to walk in front of Lucius, apparently still considering him as his heir. But nevertheless, he was willing to fight against his grandson and [[Amethio's Ceruledge|his Ceruledge]] without hesitation when they sided with the Rising Volt Tacklers.

In ''[[HZ083|The Truth Revealed!]]'', it was shown that despite Gibeon being over 100 years old, he had aged slowly. Due to his advanced age, Gibeon's health was very poor, which caused him to be confined to an advanced wheelchair in a room filled with a mist resembling that given off by Laquium. When he did meet with someone directly instead of using his holographic monolith, they must speak with him from the other side of a barrier and cannot enter his chamber. In ''[[HZ086|The Rising Volt Tacklers vs. The Explorers!]]'' and ''[[HZ087|Guided by the Black Rayquaza!]]'', Gibeon was shown to have little mobility and rely on the use of his motorized wheelchair to navigate Laqua. He could not stand up on his own without the use of a special mechanism built into his clothing, which refined raw Laquium into mist that revitalized his frail body and gave him strength.

Gibeon had a complicated relationship with Rystal and Lucius. After the events in Laqua, since his companions were against his ideals of using Laquium to improve people and Pokémon's lives, Gibeon took their interference as a betrayal and that they did not understand his ideals. After he reunited with Lucius in the present day, Gibeon still resented him for what happened and refused to accept his apology even when Lucius revealed that they never meant to betray him and wished they could have talked more back then.

Despite the feeling of betrayal, however, Gibeon was unwilling to let his Zygarde go for a hundred years and was genuinely happy when it was able to regain its 50% Forme. Even after discovering that it had been plotting behind its Trainer's back and eventually freed Lucius, Gibeon still wanted Zygarde on his side and begged it to fight for him, reminding it of their partnership.

In ''[[HZ088|The Earthshaking White Zygarde]]'', when faced with his ultimate defeat as a result of Zygarde abandoning him, Gibeon suffered an emotional breakdown, lashing out about Lucius's bloodline once again destroying his dreams before contemplating Zygarde's [[Poké Ball]] while reflecting on Lucius's words. In ''[[HZ089|Where the Adventure Leads]]'', he once again suffered an emotional breakdown due to the crystals' destruction, but after Amethio and Lucius's speech, it seems that Gibeon slowly began to return to his brighter self. When it came time for him and his old friend to vanish, he accepted what had happened and was ready to move on, managing to reconcile with both Lucius and Amethio, encouraging the latter to follow his own path with his Ceruledge.

===Pre-series===
At some point in the past, [[Laquium]] landed on the top of [[Mount Pericarp]] from outside of the {{pkmn|world|planet}}. The energy generated by the crystals is what eventually created Laqua's bountiful environment, however, it also started withering the plants there due to overexposure to the energy. Overtime, fairytales started being told about Laqua, being known as the "Pokémon paradise".

100 years prior to the events of the series, the [[Explorers]] [[Lucius]], [[Gibeon]], and [[Rystal]] had the goal to reach the Pokémon paradise named Laqua. After a long journey, the trio reached the Laqua, a beautiful paradise where all Pokémon, even [[Legendary Pokémon]], lived peacefully. Wondering how such a prosperous environment was created, they explored further in and discovered some pink crystals known as Laquium, which stimulated the growth of the plants around it, so much actually that it started devastating the land.

Lucius and Rystal then decided to leave Laqua, worried that the crystal could influence them. However, Gibeon disagreed and started using his [[White Zygarde|Zygarde]] to dig the crystals out, fascinated by their powers, but the crystals started to expand and spread its mist around, causing many [[wild Pokémon]] to go feral. Fearing they might bring the destruction of the world, Lucius called to his Six Heroes to stop it and even Gibeon's Zygarde tried to help. Gibeon fell into a crack created by the crystals, but Lucius and Rystal refused to give up: in response, [[Pagogo]] changed into its {{Form|Terapagos|Stellar Form}} and passed some of its [[Terastal energy|energy]] to the Six Heroes so all of them can seal the Laquium away inside a giant shield. Lucius remained trapped inside it, while Rystal was able to leave Laqua and raised their {{OBP|Layla|Horizons|daughter}} on her own.

After surviving his fall thanks to the monarch, Gibeon reformed the Explorers to return to Laqua and take control of the Laquium there. He had also established their headquarters on Mount Pericarp so they could observe Laqua.

Laqua was first mentioned, albeit not by name, in ''[[HZ012|The Future I Choose]]''. It was part of the book [[Alex]] wrote about Lucius, describing it as a paradise sought by the Ancient Adventurer and his Pokémon, which they ultimately found and lived happily together in.

Laqua was briefly mentioned by Lucius in ''[[HZ023|Fiery Galarian Moltres]]'' in a vision created by the [[Pagogo|unnamed Pokémon]] in Liko's pendant, comforting his {{TP|Lucius|Moltres}} before disappearing and leaving her wondering what it was.

In ''[[HZ024|Reunion at the Ancient Castle!]]'', [[Diana]] revealed that Laqua is the name of the paradise that Lucius was looking for and that at some point {{an|Terapagos}} was with Lucius on this journey. It was implied that Terapagos may know where Laqua is located, as it jumped off the couch and headed towards the door after [[Liko]] mentioned the name, as if to go find it.

In ''[[HZ026|Terapagos's Adventure]]'', Terapagos expressed its desire to find Laqua. Liko, understanding its feelings, brought the idea up to the [[Rising Volt Tacklers]]. They agreed to embark on this mission, but in order to complete it, needed to seek out the rest of the Six Heroes, the six Pokémon that accompanied Lucius in his adventure.

In ''[[HZ032|Lapras's Feelings for its Friends]]'', it was revealed that Lucius's Pokémon made a promise with him to reunite again and that Lucius became one with Laqua.

In ''[[HZ034|Respective Departures]]'', it was revealed that the [[Explorers]]' goal is also to find Laqua.

In ''[[HZ054|The Treasure of Eternity]]'', it was revealed that [[Gibeon]] wanted to go to Laqua in order to find more [[Laquium]], mysterious crystals that produce a pink mist similar to the mist seen in {{p|Terapagos}}'s vision. Additionally, he told [[Amethio]] that Terapagos was the key to the paradise's gate and that he should seize it once it "awakens".

In ''[[HZ057|The Terapagos I Don't Know]]'', [[Raifort]] mentioned that she had read about Laqua in a history book. According to legends, it was 100 days and 100 nights away from Paldea and covered in shades of pink. Over time, it became a legend and fell into oblivion.

In ''[[HZ075|The Wonders of the World!]]'', after [[Rystal]] was summoned at the [[Crystal Pool]], she told the story of the original Explorers, including their last adventure in Laqua, to the Rising Volt Tacklers and [[Diana]]. After the end of the story, [[Friede]] asked her where Laqua is, though she didn't know since Lucius's Rayquaza was the one who took them there. However, Friede was determined that they could find it on their own.

In ''[[HZ081|The Pillar of Fire]]'', Pagogo showed a flashback of Rystal and Lucius ready to find Laqua after forming the Six Heroes. In ''[[HZ082|Beyond the Shining Rainbow]]'', after Rayquaza joined the Rising Volt Tacklers and Pagogo regained all of its power, a flashback showed Lucius, Gibeon, and Rystal, along with their Pokémon, ready to enter Laqua. In ''[[HZ085|The Pokémon Paradise of Laqua!]]'', after the Rising Volt Tacklers reached Laqua, the Black Rayquaza returned to its Poké Ball to rest after flying for so long as the group began exploring the area. On the next day, they found the barrier that was used to seal the Laquium, completely covered in moss and rocks. The barrier was broken by Pagogo and Liko returned it to its Poké Ball to rest. This allowed Friede to go on ahead to make sure it was safe for the younger members. However, Friede and Liko, Roy and Dot were confronted by the Explorers. In the [[HZ086|next episode]], [[Chalce]], [[Sidian]], and [[Coral]] revealed to the trio that the they actually knew Laqua's location all along and established their headquarters on Pericarp Mountain to observe it. As the trios battled each other, Friede battled [[Spinel]], which ended with the victory of the Rising Volt Tacklers, however, this allowed Gibeon to reach the Laquium and spread out its mist.

In ''[[HZ087|Guided by the Black Rayquaza!]]'', Gibeon started digging out Laquium to reach its core underground. Amethio and the Rising Volt Tacklers tried to stop him, but he only did when the Laquium Zygarde dug out broke away, revealing Lucius, who was still alive inside of it. He explains the plan he made with Rayquaza and Zygarde to destroy the Laquium with the help of Pagogo and the Rising Volt Tacklers, but Gibeon refuses to allow it. The other Explorers start using machine to activate the Laquium core and Gibeon convinces Zygarde to fight for his sake one last time, Pagogo starts gathering the power of the Six Heroes into itself to purify the Laquium, while Liko, Roy, Dot, and Amethio face Gibeon.

In ''[[HZ088|The Earthshaking White Zygarde]]'', the quartet worked together to defeat Zygarde and after Liko's Floragato evolved into Meowscarada and dealt enough damage, Zygarde forfeitted the battle and abandoned Gibeon, giving the victory to the heroes now that Gibeon can't battle anymore. After his defeat, Pagogo was finally ready and flew above the Laquium alongside the Six Heroes before transforming into its Stellar Form. In ''[[HZ089|Where the Adventure Leads]]'', Pagogo and the Six Heroes finally erased all Laquium in Laqua. After his defeat, Gibeon finally learns the errors of his way thanks to both Lucius and Amethio. Due to the lack of Laquium, both Lucius and Gibeon started vanishing, but they were able say goodbye to the others before leaving to the afterlife, where they'll be able to see Rystal again. After Gibeon's death, Spinel takes over as the new leader of the Explorers and uses his Laquium Sphere to force the Six Heroes (except Rayquaza) to go berserk. The six started fighting each other, causing a great destruction to Laqua as a result, which forces the Rising Volt Tacklers and Amethio to escape. One year later, Spinel, who's now the leader of the Explorers and [[Exceed]] has completely taken over Laqua and lied to the public that the damage there was caused by the Rising Volt Tacklers.

==Geography==

Laqua is a vast, beautiful land with a bountiful environment located at the top of [[Mount Pericarp]], known by the inhabitants of [[Pericarp Town]] as the "place where the land meets the sky" ( ''place where heaven and earth meet''), being so high up that many clouds and rainbows appear around it. Such appearance gave it the title of "Pokémon paradise". It is composed of a huge forest, mountain, and a grassy plain, with rivers, bushes, and trees that grow giant [[berries]]. It was completly untouched by [[human]]s.

Thanks to the bountiful land of Laqua, it has become the home of many different [[wild]] {{OBP|Pokémon|species}}, which includes even [[Legendary Pokémon]]. There, they live together in harmony, they aren't scared nor bothered by the presence of humans, remain peaceful even around their natural [[Pokémon predation|predators or preys]], and even the most temperamental of the Pokémon remain peaceful. [[Friede]] also says that Laqua is full of a special energy that attracts Pokémon there. Deeper in the forest, there is a much rougher area, full of gigantic, grayed out trees. According to [[Gibeon]], this area flourished just as much as the others, but it seems that it had suddenly withered away.

Even deeper into the forest, there's a gray, withered area, but to a much worse state than the previous one. All plants there are completly grayed out and dead. At the center of the area, there's a huge cluster of [[Laquium]], special crystals that hold an astounding amount of energy. It's thanks to that energy that Laqua is so bountiful, however, further exposure to that energy can cause Pokémon to go feral and the plants to grow so much that they wither away. In ''[[HZ087|Guided by the Black Rayquaza!]]'', [[Lucius]] reveals that Laquium isn't originally from the Pokémon world, which implies it somehow landed there and created the Laqua paradise. Due to Gibeon's meddling with the crystals, the Laquium started expanding out and spreading its mist all over Laqua, destroying its environment and driving Pokémon berserk. Thanks to [[Pagogo]] and the [[Six Heroes]], the spreading of the Laquium and its mist was stopped, being sealed within a giant protective barrier, saving Laqua and the world from destruction.

In ''[[HZ085|The Pokémon Paradise of Laqua!]]'', Pagogo removed the barrier and in ''[[HZ086|The Rising Volt Tacklers vs. The Explorers!]]'', Gibeon reached the Laquium and forced it to start expanding and spread out its mist once again, which caused even more damage to Laqua. In ''[[HZ089|Where the Adventure Leads]]'', Pagogo and the Six Heroes finally purified all of the Laquium there, but Lucius claimed that Laqua won't end, even without Laquium, all thanks to the flourishing system that was established there. In the same episode, [[Spinel]] took possession of Laqua for the Explorers, but he also used his Laquium Sphere to force the Six Heroes (except [[Black Rayquaza|Rayquaza]]) to go berserk, who started battling each other, which caused even more destruction across the Pokémon paradise. Due to the destruction caused by Spinel's horrifying actions, many of the Pokémon that lived in Laqua started fleeing the paradise for their own safety. One year after those events, Spinel claims that the environment there had begun to heal, but whether he's telling the truth or not is debatable.

100 years prior to the events of the series, Gibeon was a traveling {{pkmn|Trainer}} searching for the Pokémon paradise [[Laqua]] alongside his [[White Zygarde]]. One day, while at a saloon, he overheard two other patrons deriding a pair of travelers who had come to ask for information regarding Laqua. He presented them with an extensive document of all the research he had conducted proving Laqua existed. Later, the two travelers, [[Lucius]] and [[Rystal]], invited him to accompany them on their {{pkmn|journey}} to locate the paradise, and he agreed. The group adopted the name of the [[Explorers]] and traveled around the {{pkmn|world}}, ultimately locating Laqua after several days lost at sea.

In Laqua, Gibeon studied the local Pokémon, seeking to understand what could have created such a lush environment. The trio pushed on deeper into Laqua, discovering evidence of plant life that had withered from an unknown force. They eventually came across a growth of pink crystals named [[Laquium]] that generate a pink mist. Gibeon approached the growth to take a sample, observing the intense levels of energy the crystal possessed. Lucius, fearing what kind of effect the crystals could have on his group, instructed Gibeon and Rystal to leave Laqua with him, while Rystal agreed, Gibeon did not listen. Driven mad by the power of the mist, Gibeon used Zygarde in an attempt to force more crystals to grow, unleashing more mist in the process. The mist, in turn, caused the Pokémon nearby to begin rampaging, forcing Lucius and Rystal to fight them off. Zygarde, realizing the effect the mist was having on its Trainer, shed some of its cells in an attempt to seal the crystals' energy away, but this measure failed. The crystals' explosive growth ruptured the ground beneath Gibeon's feet, causing him to fall into a fissure. Following his fall, Rystal's {{p|Terapagos}} [[Pagogo]] and Lucius's Pokémon the [[Six Heroes]] worked together to seal the Laquium inside a giant energy barrier, Lucius was trapped inside it and Rystal left the paradise.

Over time, Gibeon's role in Lucius's adventures was largely forgotten. He survived the fall thanks to the Laquium shard he had with him and eventually made his way down [[Kumuri Mountain]] to [[Kumuri Town]], where his injuries were treated by the mother of a {{OBP|Matriarch|HZ084|3 year old girl}}. Using his Laquium shard, he was able to exploit the mist to extend his lifespan and survive into the present day. During this time, he organized the modern incarnation of the Explorers and founded the [[Paldea]]n company known as [[Exceed]] to serve as the group's scientific research front, specifically on Laquium. Since then, he sought to break Pagogo's barrier and harvest the Laquium to better the lives of both [[human]]s and {{OBP|Pokémon|species}}.

He later met [[Hamber]], who had become lost and aimless in his path as an adventurer, but Gibeon guided and recruited him into the Explorers. He also sought to recruit Hamber's old friend [[Diana]], Lucius and Rystal's granddaughter, but she turned down Hamber's invitation. At one point, Gibeon also got married and fathered a [[Amethio's mother|daughter]], who would grow up and marry a man named [[Cervantis]]. Cervantis joined the Explorers and was apparently tasked with carrying on Gibeon's legacy, but through unknown circumstances, Cervantis strayed from this path and failed to live up to Gibeon's expectations, eventually being expelled from the Explorers. Cervantis and Gibeon's daughter had a child of their own, [[Amethio]], who Gibeon later brought into the Explorers with the same task, to find Laqua once again. At some point, Gibeon's daughter died in a car accident, but his reaction to this event is currently unknown.

Gibeon was mentioned for the first time in ''[[HZ004|The Treasure After the Storm!]]'', when [[Hamber]] questioned [[Amethio]] about the results of his mission.

In ''[[HZ006|The Ancient Poké Ball]]'', Gibeon appeared communicating with his Admins regarding Amethio's mission to [[Roy's hometown]]. Believing that Amethio did not carry out his mission properly, he dismissed him and sent [[Spinel]] to investigate the [[Rising Volt Tacklers]]. When all the members left the meeting, Hamber and Gibeon realized that they had finally found their true purpose.

In ''[[HZ025|Rivals in the Dark of Night!]]'', Gibeon contacted Hamber during the events in [[Galar]]. After the battle ended, Hamber was seen talking to Gibeon again by the monolith, informing him that events had finally begun to move again. Gibeon, in response, expressed that their wishes would soon come true.

In ''[[HZ034|Respective Departures]]'', Amethio sought an audience with Gibeon following his mission with the [[Black Rayquaza]] in the [[HZ033|previous episode]]. Gibeon, awakening, spoke to Amethio about the battle and inquired how he felt while fighting Rayquaza. After Amethio claimed that he felt Rayquaza was not taking the battle seriously, Gibeon suggested that it was either testing him or toying with him, then informed Amethio that Rayquaza and {{TP|Liko|Terapagos}} were the keys to his paradise, Laqua.

Gibeon made his first physical appearance in ''[[HZ045|From So Far Away]]''. He presided over another meeting of the Explorers following the failure of their plan to collectively battle the Black Rayquaza. In the light of their failure, he ordered a change of tactics, directing his subordinates to spy on the Rising Volt Tacklers and allow them to gather the Six Heroes, while also ordering [[Coral]] and the others to monitor Liko and Terapagos. Following the conclusion of the meeting, Gibeon was seen in his personal chamber, musing to himself about his desire to return to Laqua and how [[Lucius]]'s adventure wasn't yet over.

In ''[[HZ054|The Treasure of Eternity]]'', Gibeon summoned Amethio to meet with him in-person. During this meeting, it was revealed that Amethio was Gibeon's grandson, and his heir in the search for Laqua. Amethio swore he would prove himself worthy of carrying Gibeon's blood by finding the paradise and the [[Laquium]] within, thus succeeding where his father, Gibeon's son-in-law, had failed.

In ''[[HZ065|Liko and Amethio]]'', after an operation against the Rising Volt Tacklers concluded in [[Glaseado Mountain]], Spinel presented evidence that Amethio had betrayed the organization by allowing Liko to leave with Terapagos. The other admins believed his claim, while Hamber was willing to listen to his defense. Before Amethio could explain anything, Gibeon chimed in, questioning whether Amethio was straying from the path much like his son-in-law did. He then made the decision to expel Amethio, seemingly unaware that he was being manipulated by Spinel and coldly told his grandson not to show his face again after his expulsion.

In [[HZ075]], Liko and the Rising Volt Tacklers learned about the Explorers' past from Rystal after summoning her through time at the [[Crystal Pool]]. Gibeon was later seen resting in his chamber while Spinel and [[Chalce]] schemed to usurp the position at his side once he returned to Laqua.

In [[HZ083]], Gibeon was informed by [[Sidian]] that the Rising Volt Tacklers had successfully obtained the Six Heroes, restored Terapagos to full strength, and had left to find Laqua. He told the Explorers that they would ambush the Rising Volt Tacklers in Laqua once the seal had been lifted. Later, in a meeting with Spinel and Chalce, Gibeon expressed his joy at the anticipation of finally obtaining more Laquium.

In [[HZ086]], with the barrier to Laqua removed, Gibeon began heading towards where the Laquium was located. Accompanied only by his Zygarde, Gibeon muttered to himself about finally achieving his goals as he approached his destination.

In [[HZ087]], Gibeon made it to the Laquium and witnessed Zygarde retrieve its missing Cells, allowing it to become its 50% Forme. He ordered Zygarde to unearth a large cluster of crystals, but was interrupted by Amethio, who warned him of Spinel's actions. Gibeon ignored his grandson's words and continued mining the Laquium, but to his shock, a still-living Lucius emerged from the crystals. Lucius revealed that through its Cells, Zygarde kept him informed of events happening in the modern day world outside of Laqua. Furious at this apparent betrayal, Gibeon had the Explorers use one of Spinel's machines to stimulate the Laquium, causing it to expand uncontrollably like it did a hundred years prior. Though their views regarding Laquium differed, Zygarde agreed to fight alongside Gibeon in order to battle Amethio and the Rising Volt Tacklers.

In [[HZ088]], Gibeon commanded Zygarde in a ferocious [[Pokémon battle|battle]] against Liko, Roy, Dot and Amethio. He easily dominated the four of them with Zygarde's immense power, but began losing control of his emotions once they landed hits on the [[legendary Pokémon]]. Finally, just when his victory seemed to be within reach, Liko's newly-evolved {{tp|Liko|Meowscarada}} was able to strike Zygarde with aid from Amethio's {{tp|Amethio|Ceruledge}}, convincing Zygarde of their abilities. As a result, Zygarde broke apart into its Cells and abandoned Gibeon. Realizing his defeat, Gibeon broke down completely, lashing out at Lucius over his perception that the latter's bloodline had once again destroyed his dreams. When Lucius told him that Liko and her allies' bonds with their Pokémon were the reason they could overcome him, and that Zygarde battled them in order to demonstrate this to him, Gibeon became contemplative and began pondering Zygarde's Poké Ball.

In [[HZ089]], after his defeat Gibeon was informed by Lucius that Zygarde did care about him as its partner due to once having a good goal towards bettering the lives of people and Pokémon, causing Gibeon to feel more remorseful for his actions. After Pagogo used most of its power to destroy the Laquium crystals, Gibeon and Lucius started to fade away as the crystals that kept them alive are now destroyed. In the end, Gibeon reconciled with Lucius and even his grandson Amethio, praising him before fading away.{{-}}

In his youth, Gibeon was a determined, scientifically-minded adventurer. He habitually gathered volumes of information on his goals, recording all of his research into [[Laqua]] on a scroll that reached a significant length. He also did not tolerate what he deemed as foolishness regarding topics such as whether Laqua existed or not. Although he was generally flat emotionally, he did display some signs of appreciation and happiness during his time with [[Lucius]] and [[Rystal]]. When the three [[Explorers]] reached Laqua, he immediately tried to satisfy his scientific curiosity, seeking to understand how the paradise gained its rich environment.

However, following the discovery of [[Laquium]], Gibeon's personality changed significantly for the worse for the long years. He grew maniacal and reckless in his efforts to cultivate more Laquium, behaving in a way that displayed no concern over the rampaging Pokémon around him or the risk to the world posed by the Laquium's growth. When [[White Zygarde|his Zygarde]] turned against him and tried to seal the Laquium, Gibeon grew enraged and berated it for its betrayal. He also came to view Lucius's attempts to seal away the Laquium as a personal betrayal as well. In his obsession with the Laquium, Gibeon had come to believe that the destruction of the world by its growth would be an acceptable price to pay in creating a new order of only those strong enough to withstand its effects.

Many years later, Gibeon initially appeared to be a calm, detached leader of the Explorers, mostly delegating the day-to-day work of running his followers to [[Hamber]]. He tended to directly involve himself only when major events relating to his goals took place and was pragmatic in managing his resources at these times, as seen when he replaced [[Amethio]] with [[Spinel]] on the mission to obtain [[Liko]]'s pendant. When he discovered that [[Hamber]], [[Coral]], and [[Sidian]] had gone to Galar in an attempt to confront the [[Rising Volt Tacklers]], he immediately contacted Hamber. However, Gibeon later overlooked this insubordination due to the value of the intelligence they had gathered. He was generally cold-hearted and callous, displaying a willingness to do anything regardless of morality to achieve his goals. Gibeon was also secretive in his activity; few knew that he was the chairman of Exceed, and no employees are known to have ever met him face-to-face. Gibeon's subordinates held him in high, almost reverential regard, typically referring to him as "Master Gibeon", behaving in a highly deferential way when in his presence, and identifying the Explorers as "only existing to fulfill" his wishes. His followers must specifically seek out time when they wish to speak to him, for which Gibeon awakens until he chooses to conclude that subordinate's audience with him.

Gibeon's hatred of betrayal has not diminished over the years, and he has disowned people who have disappointed him, even members of his family. 100 years prior to the events of the series, Gibeon was a traveling {{pkmn|Trainer}} searching for the Pokémon paradise [[Laqua]] alongside his [[White Zygarde]]. One day, while at a saloon, he overheard two other patrons deriding a pair of travelers who had come to ask for information regarding Laqua. He presented them with an extensive document of all the research he had conducted proving Laqua existed. Later, the two travelers, [[Lucius]] and [[Rystal]], invited him to accompany them on their {{pkmn|journey}} to locate the paradise, and he agreed. The group adopted the name of the [[Explorers]] and traveled around the {{pkmn|world}}, ultimately locating Laqua after several days lost at sea.

In Laqua, Gibeon studied the local Pokémon, seeking to understand what could have created such a lush environment. The trio pushed on deeper into Laqua, discovering evidence of plant life that had withered from an unknown force. They eventually came across a growth of pink crystals named [[Laquium]] that generate a pink mist. Gibeon approached the growth to take a sample, observing the intense levels of energy the crystal possessed. Lucius, fearing what kind of effect the crystals could have on his group, instructed Gibeon and Rystal to leave Laqua with him, while Rystal agreed, Gibeon did not listen. Driven mad by the power of the mist, Gibeon used Zygarde in an attempt to force more crystals to grow, unleashing more mist in the process. The mist, in turn, caused the Pokémon nearby to begin rampaging, forcing Lucius and Rystal to fight them off. Zygarde, realizing the effect the mist was having on its Trainer, shed some of its cells in an attempt to seal the crystals' energy away, but this measure failed. The crystals' explosive growth ruptured the ground beneath Gibeon's feet, causing him to fall into a fissure. Following his fall, Rystal's {{p|Terapagos}} [[Pagogo]] and Lucius's Pokémon the [[Six Heroes]] worked together to seal the Laquium inside a giant energy barrier, Lucius was trapped inside it and Rystal left the paradise.

Over time, Gibeon's role in Lucius's adventures was largely forgotten. He survived the fall thanks to the Laquium shard he had with him and eventually made his way down [[Kumuri Mountain]] to [[Kumuri Town]], where his injuries were treated by the mother of a {{OBP|Matriarch|HZ084|3 year old girl}}. Using his Laquium shard, he was able to exploit the mist to extend his lifespan and survive into the present day. During this time, he organized the modern incarnation of the Explorers and founded the [[Paldea]]n company known as [[Exceed]] to serve as the group's scientific research front, specifically on Laquium. Believing that Amethio did not carry out his mission properly, he dismissed him and sent [[Spinel]] to investigate the [[Rising Volt Tacklers]]. When all the members left the meeting, Hamber and Gibeon realized that they had finally found their true purpose.

In ''[[HZ025|Rivals in the Dark of Night!]]'', Gibeon contacted Hamber during the events in [[Galar]]. After the battle ended, Hamber was seen talking to Gibeon again by the monolith, informing him that events had finally begun to move again. As a result, Zygarde broke apart into its Cells and abandoned Gibeon. Realizing his defeat, Gibeon broke down completely, lashing out at Lucius over his perception that the latter's bloodline had once again destroyed his dreams. When Lucius told him that Liko and her allies' bonds with their Pokémon were the reason they could overcome him, and that Zygarde battled them in order to demonstrate this to him, Gibeon became contemplative and began pondering Zygarde's Poké Ball.

When the three [[Explorers]] reached Laqua, he immediately tried to satisfy his scientific curiosity, seeking to understand how the paradise gained its rich environment.
