[[Image:Steven-rs.png|right|thumb|Battling Steven Stone.]]
His strategy in battle is to use Steel Pokémon to find the opponent's weakness.

Steven is the Champion in {{2v2|Ruby|Sapphire}}. In Emerald, [[Wallace]] replaces him in this role.

In [[Pokémon Emerald]], Steven is a powerful wandering trainer who gave up competing seriously to spend more time looking for rare rocks and stones. He claims to be willing to climb waterfalls to find rare stones. With this hint, the player can find him in the upper area of [[Meteor Falls]] after championing the Elite Four.

NOTE: Steven is found in [[Meteor Falls]] in a corridor opened after beating the [[Elite Four]]. Battling him is not part of the storyline.

==In the Pokémon Special manga==
Steven met {{Special|Ruby}} while looking through the Granite Cave. During a battle with wild {{p|Mawile}}, Ruby's {{p|Skitty}} bumped into one of Steven's Moon Stones, causing it to evolve.

Steven was well-aware of the danger [[Team Magma]] and [[Team Aqua]] presented, and extended an invitation to Ruby to join the fight against them. Steven invited him to help, but Ruby declined because he didn't like battling. The armlets on Steven's arms are devices he can chip away stone with, to grab and retrieve rocks he sees that are out of reach.

Later in the series, Steven confessed that he and his father, the owner of the [[Devon Corporation]], knew about the schemes of [[Team Magma]] and [[Team Aqua]] quite long ago. [[Mr. Stone]] built the Submarine Explorer 1 so that Steven can seal the Seafloor Cavern and no one would be able to wake {{p|Kyogre}} and {{p|Groudon}}. The backup plan in case it fails would be to unseal {{p|Registeel}}, {{p|Regirock}}, and {{p|Regice}}.

Steven later assembles the rest of the Hoenn Elite Four in order to fight against Kyogre and Groudon. With the help of {{Special|Sapphire}}'s {{p|Wailord}} and {{p|Relicanth}}, Steven and the [[Elite Four]] unsealed the Regis. Steven took controlled of Registeel and gave the other two Regis to the other members of the Elite Four.

Knowing he would die in Kyogre and Groudon's battle, Steven stepped down from the position of Champion, and gave it back to [[Wallace]], who was actually the true champion while Steven had only been a runner-up. After Kyogre and Groudon returned to their respective domains, Steven apparently died from the strain of controlling the Regis, but was later revived under mysterious circumstances when Ruby released his {{p|Celebi}}.

Steven uses his Metagross to fly around Hoenn. Its magnetism allows him to float atop it.
==Quotes==
===Pokémon Ruby and Sapphire===
''"Welcome, [[player character|<name>]]. I was looking forward to seeing you here one day. You... What did you see on your journey with Pokémon? What did you feel, meeting so many other Trainers like you? What has awoken in you? I want you to hit me with it all! Now, bring it!"''

''"I, the Champion, fall in defeat... Kudos to you, [[player character|<name>]]! You are a truly noble Pokémon Trainer!"''

''"Congratulations! The feelings you have for your Pokémon... And the Pokémon that responded to those feelings with all their might... They came together as one, and created an even greater power. And thus, you were able to grasp victory today! You are rightfully the Hoenn region's new..."''

''"[[player character|<name>]]... No, the new Champion! Come with me. I'm sorry, but... From here on, only those Trainers who have become Champions may enter. You'll have to wait outside with the Professor."''

''"This room... This is where we keep records of Pokémon that prevailed through harsh battles. It is here that the League Champions are honored. Come on, let's record your name as a Trainer who triumphed over the Pokémon League, and the names of the partners who battled with you."''
==== Trainer's Eyes ====
'''Strategy''' -
Pick on the foe's weakness.

'''Trainer's Pokémon''' -
The ultimate Steel Pokémon

'''Self-Introduction''' -
When it comes down to it, I'm still the strongest!
===Pokémon Emerald===
''"Oh, wow, [[player character|<name>]]. I'm amazed you knew where to find me. Do you, uh...maybe think of me as just a rock maniac? No, that can't be right. We battled alongside each other at the Mossdeep Space Center. You should have a very good idea about how good I am. Okay, [[player character|<name>]], if you're going to mount a serious challenge, expect the worst!"''

''"You... I had no idea you'd become so strong..."''

''"Come to think of it, ever since our paths first crossed in Granite Cave in Dewford, I had this feeling. I thought that you would eventually become the Champion. My predictions usually come true. And where will you go from here? ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... Fufufu, even I could't tell you that."''

==Trivia==
* In {{game|Emerald}}, when the {{player}} speaks to him in [[Meteor Falls]] before their battle, he makes an error. He talks of their encounter in the [[Sootopolis City]] Space Center. The Space Center is actually in [[Mossdeep City]], and this dialog may result from the encounter the player has with him in Sootopolis in Ruby and Sapphire.
* Also, the battle with Steven against [[Maxie]] and [[Tabitha]] is the only occasion in the [[Generation III]] games where the player teams up with an ally for a double battle. Several others are available in the Battle Frontier and multiple times in [[Gen IV]].

'''Cooltrainer''' is a glitch move known by relatively few [[Glitch Pokémon]], and, unusually for a glitch move, can be learned by [[Ditto (Pokémon)|a regular Pokémon]]. Initially, it has 0/13 PP, and can't gain any more by healing at a [[Pokémon Center]]. Rather, one must supply the Pokémon with a PP Up and an Ether/Elixir in order to be able to use the move. Its hexadecimal number is 00, and it is used to represent a blank space in the attack list, and isn't meant to be selected in battle. However, by having a {{p|Ditto}} {{m|Transform}} into a Pokémon with more than one move, and using the Select button to switch the top move with another, Ditto will be able to use the Cooltrainer move. When a Pokémon knows the Cooltrainer move, their entire attack list becomes invisible. When the Pokémon reaches a level where it can learn a new move, and it has four moves, including the Cooltrainer move, the game thinks the Pokémon only has three moves, and teaches it the new move automatically, deleting the Cooltrainer move in the process.
Some Bulbapedia members have formed a [[Bulbapedia:Project|project]] to better organise efforts to write and improve articles about '''Pokémon Trading Cards'''. If you would like to help, please inquire on the [[{{NAMESPACE}} talk:{{PAGENAME}}|talk page]] or the [http://bmgf.bulbagarden.net/forumdisplay.php?f=195 Bulbapedia forum] and see the [[{{NAMESPACE}}:{{PAGENAME}}/To-do list]].

==Project TCGdex==

===Structure===

===Goals===
# Create Pokémon Trading Card pages. The [[Dark Metal Energy (TCG)]] and [[Charizard (Base Set 4)]] page are good examples.

===Infoboxes===
* {{Template|TCGInfobox}} - Under construction
* {{Template|TCGTrainerInfobox}} - Under construction

===Other templates===
* {{Template|Project TCG notice}} - to be used at the bottom of every Pokémon article.
{{Project TCGDex notice}}

* {{Template|User Project TCGDex}} - for project participants to place in their user profile.
{{User Project TCGDex}}
<br clear=all>

====Link templates====
These link templates are particularly useful for making lists of the cards available in the different sets or theme decks.
* {{Template|TCG}} - This link template is for cards which appear widely in the game, such as energy cards. To use this link template, type in <nowiki>{{TCG|Card Name}}</nowiki>. For example, <nowiki>{{TCG|Dark Metal Energy}}</nowiki> would result in {{TCG|Dark Metal Energy}}.
* {{Template|TCG ID}} - This link template is for cards which appear in only certain sets, such as Pokémon cards and trainer cards. To use this link template, type in <nowiki>{{TCG ID|Set Name|Card Name|Number}}</nowiki>. For example, <nowiki>{{TCG ID|Base Set|Charizard|4}}</nowiki> would result in {{TCG ID|Base Set|Charizard|4}}.
* {{Template|ct}} - This link template is to link to the TCG types, much like the {{template|type2}} template links to types from the handheld games.

* The gate may be based on a similar gate in {{wp|Spirited Away}}.
* The {{m|Poison Jab}} Brock's Croagunk uses on the illusion of Rayquaza resembles one of {{wp|Monkey D. Luffy}}'s signature moves, the Gum Gum Rifle.
* {{Ash}} narrates the next episode preview.

=== Errors ===
* After receiving the case of badges from [[Professor Oak]] in his fantasy, Ash says he has all the badges. However, they are not all there -- the [[Mine Badge]] of [[Sinnoh]] is missing, as are the extra badges seen in ''[[EP073|Bad to the Bone]]'' and the four badges of the [[Orange Islands]].
===Structure===

===Goals===
# Create Pokémon Trading Card pages. The [[Dark Metal Energy (TCG)]] and [[Charizard (Base Set 4)]] page are good examples.

===Infoboxes===
* {{Template|TCGInfobox}} - Under construction
* {{Template|TCGTrainerInfobox}} - Under construction

===Other templates===
* {{Template|Project TCG notice}} - to be used at the bottom of every Pokémon article.
{{Project TCGDex notice}}

* {{Template|User Project TCGDex}} - for project participants to place in their user profile.
{{User Project TCGDex}}
<br clear=all>

====Link templates====

==Other projects==
== Synopsis ==
The episode begins early in the morning, with the sun shining brightly into the bedroom of a young girl who is just waking up on the dawn of one of the most important days of her life: the start of her adventures with [[Pokémon]]. She stays still, then gets up and pushes the window open. Today she will get her [[Starter Pokémon|first Pokémon]].

Sometime later, the girl, named {{an|Dawn}}, is already half-way dressed when [[Johanna|her mother]] appears. Dawn lets her in along with a {{TP|Johanna|Glameow}}. The two greet each other while Glameow rests on the bed Downstairs, mother and daughter discuss Dawn's plans and Dawn pulls out a postcard that she received from [[Professor Rowan]] inviting her to his laboratory to pick up her first Pokémon. The postcard also contains a map to his lab, and pictures of the three Pokémon that she will be able to choose from. Dawn's mother wonders what Pokémon her daughter will choose and Dawn looks over at the pictures of the three Pokémon: {{p|Turtwig}} the {{type2|Grass}}, {{p|Chimchar}} the {{type2|Fire}}, and {{p|Piplup}} the {{type2|Water}}. Dawn then comments that regardless, all three Pokémon would make a great partner in her bid to become a top {{pkmn|Coordinator}} just like her mother. Dawn fantasizes about performing in {{pkmn|Contests}} with the three different Pokémon.

Later, Dawn prepares to leave for her journey, lugging a suitcase behind her. Her mother tells her to pack more sensibly and fits everything Dawn needs in a small backpack. Dawn then sets out towards [[Sandgem Town]] from her home in [[Twinleaf Town]] along {{rt|201}}. She arrives in a town, and runs into a building she believes to be the Professor's lab, only to find that it is a restaurant. She then proceeds to follow every possible direction, getting herself lost. While reading her map, she bumps into a man who reveals himself to be Professor Rowan, who guides her to his laboratory.

Meanwhile, at the lab, Professor Rowan's assistants are chatting while examining and feeding the the three starter Pokémon. However, a fight quickly brews when Chimchar steals the last of Piplup's food. Piplup begins attacking Chimchar with bubbles while Chimchar runs around the lab. While trying to keep Piplup under control, one of the assistants points it towards a {{p|Starly}} and {{p|Staraptor}}, who begin flying around and wrecking books and papers. The two then {{m|fly}} through an open window, followed by Chimchar (with Piplup in hot pursuit). The scientists plan to clean up, but as they begin, Professor Rowan arrives with Dawn.

With only the Turtwig remaining, Dawn asks and is allowed to go and search for the four missing Pokémon. After receiving some tips from Rowan, Dawn runs off towards the forest where the Pokémon were headed. Before she reaches the forest, however, she runs into Chimchar and Piplup, Chimchar still swinging away from Piplup's {{m2|BubbleBeam|bubbles}}. Dawn attempts to calm them down, but they ignore her, Piplup changing its target to her briefly before both disappear into the forest. Dawn runs into the forest after them, only to find Piplup as well as several other Pokémon trapped in a web created by an {{p|Ariados}}. Dawn quickly hatches a plan, causing the Ariados to destroy its own web, landing Piplup safely in her arms. However, after sliding down a hill, Piplup seems very indignant, using Peck on Dawn several times. Dawn begins to berate it, but then realizes that it is simply hungry. However, although Dawn offers it Pokémon food, it seems disdainful and won't eat it. This scene it interrupted when Ariados returns, attacking Dawn and Piplup with several of its friends.

Trapped in a cage created by {{m|String Shot}}, Dawn distracts the Ariados with food while Piplup destroys the cage with {{m|BubbleBeam}}. Unfortunately, before Dawn can escape with Piplup, an Ariados trips her with String Shot. However, Piplup uses {{m|Bide}} to absorb the attacks of the Ariados, then destroys them and the cage with a massive energy wave. Shortly after, the Piplup faints, exhausted from having taken all the attacks.

While walking through the forest, Dawn stumbles upon [[Lake Verity]]. While there, she spots Staraptor carrying Chimchar back to the lab, with Starly close behind. Before they can return to the lab, however, the lake ripples, and a mysterious figure appears for a moment before vanishing. When Dawn asks Professor Rowan about it, he notes that it could be the [[legendary Pokémon]] of the lake. Shortly after, Dawn is presented with several [[Poké Ball]]s and a [[Pokédex]]. When asked which Pokémon she wants for a starter, Dawn immediately chooses {{TP|Dawn|Piplup}}, noting that she and it are already a team. Dawn then sets out for her Pokémon journey in earnest, riding away from the lab.

At the same time, {{Ash}}, {{AP|Pikachu}}, and [[Dawn's Aipom|Ash's Aipom]] are on a ship bound for [[Sinnoh]]. Ash boasts about becoming the Sinnoh [[Champion]] while [[Jessie]], [[James]], and {{MTR}} watch from below decks. Later, Ash discusses Aipom accompanying Ash to Sinnoh with [[Professor Oak]], who notes that he will send Aipom's Poké Ball to Professor Rowan. Before they continue, though, [[Team Rocket]] quickly snatches Pikachu from their balloon. However, before they can leave, Meowth begins to argue with Jessie, attacking {{TP|Jessie|Wobbuffet}} with {{m|Fury Swipes}}. Wobbuffet then uses {{m|Counter}}, destroying the balloon and sending Pikachu falling into the forest. The episode ends with Ash and Aipom running after Team Rocket, while Dawn cycles away from the lab.
* The part where Dawn thinks about having each of the [[Sinnoh]] [[Starter Pokémon|starters]] echoes Ash's dream in the [[EP001|first episode]]. Incidentally, Ash's first choice for a starter was the {{type2|Water}} of his region, {{p|Squirtle}}.
* An instrumental version of ''[[By Your Side ~Hikari's Theme~]]'' is played as background music.
* Piplup's behavior when Dawn offered it food is exactly as described in the Pokédex: Piplup have high pride and hate to receive food from people.
* Dawn seeing Mesprit is mentioned in [[DP004]] where Ash links it to his seeing {{an|Ho-Oh}} as a starting trainer, though the scene is more similar to his seeing {{p|Suicune}} on the way to [[New Bark Town]].
* {{Ash}} later encounters {{p|Azelf}} at [[Lake Valor]] in [[DP077]] in the same way that Dawn encountered Mesprit. Much speculation as to who will encounter {{p|Uxie}} is being made at the current time, with major candidates being [[Brock]] and [[Paul]].
=== Dub edits ===
When Pokémon Diamond and Pearl first aired on April 20, 2007, the first three episodes were made into a movie, cutting several parts out. All of these cuts were restored when the original episodes were aired the following week.
* After the [[narrator]] finishes the introduction in the beginning of the episode, the [[Diamond & Pearl|English opening theme]] is aired instead, skipping the 8-second part that shows the English logo for the 10th season. In future airings, the English theme isn't shown for the first episode for reasons unknown.
* After the narrator finishes introducing {{an|Dawn}}, the episode title was cut out.
* After [[Team Rocket]] is seen blasting off near the ending, the remaining part is cut out. After the commercial break, it moves on to the next episode.
[[Image:AdvanceShipping.jpg|right|thumb|Ash reassures May]]
There are many points in the anime that seem to support AdvanceShipping. Below is a list of some of the more famous examples during the two sagas in which Ash and May appear.

===Hoenn League saga===
* ''[[AG001|Get the Show on the Road]]''
:After Ash destroys May's bicycle accidentally, she angrily goes to tell him off while he is resting in the Pokémon Center. As she quietly opens the door, she watches Ash and [[Ash's Pikachu|Pikachu]] resting contently together, and she forgives him without telling him. Later on, May figuratively talks Ash into letting her travel with him. Once he says she could come along, May strikes a pose by the camera and yells "YES!" to show her enthusiasm to the audience. This coupled with the previous scene where she secretly spies on him and forgives him for his kindness with Pikachu, shows that May perhaps be taking a liking toward him.

* ''[[AG002|A Ruin with a View]]''
:Ash decides to become May's mentor for the very first time, teaching her how to capture and battle with Pokémon. The two have dinner together in a [[Pokémon Center]], and when Ash wants to find out about the [[Petalburg City|Petalburg]] Gym leader, May frantically pulls him by the arm to prevent him from finding out. It would appear that she was far more content with traveling with Ash alone before revisiting her family.

* ''[[AG017|Stairway to Devon]]''
:When Ash and May discover that a [[Team Aqua]] intruder is in the building and [[Max]] could be in potential danger, she clasps her hands and asks Ash for reassurance and support. Once Ash comforts her, she is relieved. This is the first of many scenes where May continually looks toward Ash for support and reassurance, further expanding on the mentor/student dynamic.

* ''[[AG020|Brave the Wave]]''
:On [[Dewford Town|Dewford Island]], May decides to strip into a bikini right on the beach. However, instead of just running down to the shore to take a swim, she purposely poses in her bikini in front of Ash and her brother and asks what they think. Ash appears to be embarrassed by the situation.

* ''[[AG035|Win, Lose or Drew!]]''
:After witnessing May lose her first [[Pokémon Contest]], Ash takes the blame for her loss. He says, "It’s my fault. I wish I’d spent more time with May, teaching her." Later, May is crying backstage as Ash tries unsuccessfully to cheer her up.

*''[[AG045|A Togepi Mirage!]]''
:When Bock asks Misty and Ash to go save Togepi, May says she will go to. This may have been because she did not like the idea of Misty being alone with Ash, even though Princess Sara went with them.

* ''[[AG058|All Torkoal, No Play!]]''
:While May is clutching Torchic in her arms, the ground underneath her collapses and she falls into a chasm. Luckily, she grabs ahold of a branch that was sticking out of the wall. When May frantically calls for help, Ash steps up to rescue her. He tied a rope around his body as Max and [[Brock]] lower him down, where he grabs ahold of May's arm and reassures her that everything will be alright. Further expanding on the heroism, where May thanks Ash dearly for saving her life.

* ''[[AG067|Go Go Ludicolo]]''
:When confronted by Max whether she wants Ash to win over her Dad, [[Norman]] of the [[Gym#Petalburg Gym|Petalburg Gym]], May gives flustered responses. While Max is quick to make up his mind and cheer for his father, May on the other hand sides with Ash. Max yells, "What, how can you want Ash to win over our Dad?" to which May blushes nervously and says, "Well I want Dad to win... but I don't want Ash to lose!"
:May's choice was made up from the beginning to cheer for Ash over her father, and each time Max confronts her about it, she blushes nervously and doesn't want to give him a clear answer.

* ''[[AG072|The Bicker The Better]]''
:Considered to be the first episode where AdvanceShipping was made completely blatant to the audience, Ash and May are confronted by [[Oscar and Andi]], a young couple who are obsessed with the idea of love and romance.
:When Oscar and Andi call Ash and May a "happy couple," the two of them quickly deny it and turn their backs to one another, crossing their arms. Ash says sarcastically, "That's a laugh!" and May adds, "Hardy har har!" Oscar and Andi do not stop there, and continue to call them a couple. Ash and May scream, "We're not a couple!" in unison, with the same body language, followed by, "And we're not happy either!" in the same tone.
:As the episode pours on, Ash and May continue to argue and bicker back and forth, presumably to get their minds off the idea of being called a couple by Oscar and Andi. After a team up battle against [[Jessie]] and [[James]] at the end, Ash and May sincerely forgive each other for their argument, and deeply apologize as they stare at each other while the sunset closes behind them.

* ''[[AG073|Grass Hysteria]]''
:When May is lost in the forbidden land of the Grass Pokémon, Ash once again steps in to save her. After his Tarzan-esque entrance to save May from the fierce and threatening Grass Pokémon that were about to attack her, he grabs her by the hand and runs with her to clear a path to safety. Ash and May continue to hold hands as they are running away from the menacing Pokémon, a rare sight between them.

* ''[[AG074|Hokey Poké Balls]]''
:This episode further brings up the parallelism between Ash and May, by having their two {{p|Bulbasaur}} meet each other. However, the two Bulbasaur show signs of liking one another, a ship that is called [[VineShipping]]. Throughout the episode, May makes several comments about how their Bulbasaur are such a great team, and how they are, "Two peas in a Poképod." Before Ash sends [[Ash's Bulbasaur|Bulbasaur]] back to [[Oak]], it pats [[May's Bulbasaur]] on the head sweetly with its vine, saying goodbye. May's Bulbasaur is impressed as [[Ash's Bulbasaur]] is sent back. Vineshipping is one of the parallels that is used to push Advanceshipping, as canon characters such as [[Professor Oak]] and Brock have said in the past that Pokémon represent the feelings of their masters, and when two Pokémon fall in love, there is a good chance the trainers will too. While the Bulbasaur haven't fallen in love with each other yet, it is the first step in their parallel romance.

* ''[[AG078|Cruisin' for a Losin']]''
:May is sulking on a bench outside the Contest hall because she lost her match. Ash comes alone to comfort her, cheering her up compassionately while patting her Bulbasaur on the head and sitting next to her on the bench. This is followed by a, "Thank you Ash," from May.

* ''[[AG089|A Scare to Remember]]''
:Pikachu developed amnesia and joined [[Team Rocket]]. He ended up shocking Ash. The second time it happened, May covered her face in possible concern for Ash.

* ''[[AG098|The Scuffle of Legends]]''
:When Ash is about to hop on top of {{p|Dragonite}} and go with Lance to save Pikachu from its bonding with the blue orb and {{p|Groudon}}, May approaches Ash and says, "Don't do anything crazy Ash," in a sweet and very concerned tone.

* ''[[AG105|Once in a Mawile]]''
:In another love-themed episode, Ash is confused about the concept of love. May teases him and says, "Spoken like a maaaaaan," in the dub while she says, "And he doesn't get it," in the original raw. As the episode continues, Ash says, "No sense in going out of your way just to make somebody like you," in which May responds, "And he still acts like a man," in the dub while in the raw, "And he reeeaaaally doesn't get it." This is the second episode where May teases Ash about love.

* ''[[AG108|Let it Snow, Let it Snow, Let it Snorunt]]''
:May holds onto Ash's hat while he is lost with [[Ash's Glalie|Snorunt]] in a blizzard. May holds onto his hat during the entire search, frantically hoping to find him again, which is seen as a romantic gesture. Once they meet up again, she says, "I believe this is yours!" and kindly hands Ash back his hat.

* ''[[AG114|Date Expectations]]''
:As May is about to be crushed by a {{p|Donphan}} using [[Rollout (move)| Rollout]] attack, Ash launches his body toward May and brings her to safety. The two fall down to the ground with his arm around her torso. This is the third time Ash has saved May from danger. In the middle of the episode, Ash and May are separated from the group. May does her expedition routine and thinks about the concept of being lost with Ash in the woods forever. This idea causes her to have little red blushes on her cheeks. During the last act of the episode, May misses her chance to catch the ferry to her final Contest. In despair, she starts to cry. Sensing her pain, Ash puts his hands on her shoulders and stares at her deeply in the eyes, giving her the courage to go on while he takes care of her little brother. This is the first time in the series that Ash had ever put his hands on a girl in such a serious and compassionate manner.

===Battle Frontier saga===

* ''[[AG133|The Right Place and the Right Mime]]''
:May decides that she wants to continue traveling with Ash after Hoenn ends, which compels her to travel from the [[Hoenn]] region on her own to meet up with Ash in [[Pallet Town]]. This was before she found out there were Contests in [[Kanto]], so she decided that she wanted to be by Ash's side even if it meant not continuing her coordinator dream for the time being. Ash and May share a scene on the couch together, where Ash asks her if she wants to come along with him through Kanto. May of course agrees, while [[Delia]] is watching them converse, and blushes due to how close the two are.
:Meanwhile, May decides to leave her Bulbasaur with Ash's Bulbasaur at the lab, further following up with the concept of Vineshipping over 50 episodes ago. The two Bulbasaur again show signs of liking one another, which could be used to push Advanceshipping in the future.

* ''[[AG146|Fear Factor Phony!]]''
:When May hears sounds of scary Ghost Pokémon, she frantically goes to Ash and tries to wake him up in his sleeping bag. She presses her hands desperately against his chest to wake him up, yet she didn't do the same for Brock, who could have come to her aid just as easily. A further example of May choosing Ash over anyone else when she is in fear or doubt.

* ''[[AG152|On Olden Pond]]''
:As Ash is fishing, the line is being pulled into the water. To prevent him from going overboard, May quickly wraps her arms around his torso and presses her chest against his back. Ash puts on a flabbergasted expression as he feels May's chest pressed up against his back.

* ''[[AG159|Off the Unbeaten Path]]''
:May falls off a rope bridge and clutches for her life. Once again she cries out for Ash several times, despite the fact that Brock is standing with Ash as well. Ash calls out May's name as he pulls her to safety, but not once does May give any gratitude toward Brock for saving her, only Ash (this does not occur in the English dub, however). In the English dub Ash calls out only May's name but Max was there too.

* ''[[AG160|Harley Rides Again]]''
:James says to Ash that they were helping '''his''' girl (May) in the contest.

* ''[[AG191|Home is Where the Start Is]]''
:At the beginning, when there is only one ribbon, and they can't decide who to give the ribbon to, May looks at Ash, and Ash looks at May, and they nod at each other, and then Ash tells Sceptile to Leaf Blade the ribbon in half. This proves that sometimes Ash and May do not need to speak to each other to know what the other is thinking.

===Movies===
* ''[[Jirachi: Wish Maker]]''
:One of the nights when May folded a tab on the wishing star, she afterward looked down to Ash who was at that time; skipping rocks across a river. The camera then goes back to May, which she has a very anxious look on her face. Because of this scene, many Advanceshippers believe that May's wish had something to do with Ash (though this was never confirmed).

* ''[[Destiny Deoxys]]''
:Ash tries to pick a fight with [[Tory Lund]]. In order to stop him, May throws her body on top of Ash and tells him to please stop. She places her hands on his shoulders and desperately tries to convince him to calm down. Ash is surprised with her action, and quickly says, "Sure."

* ''[[Lucario and the Mystery of Mew]]''
:Ash once again loses his cool and is mad at {{p|Lucario}}. May quickly rushes down into the lake where Ash is standing and clutches to his arm, trying to prevent him from getting himself in trouble. May holds onto him frantically until the situation is resolved. Afterward, May follows Ash around "mothering" him, telling him to get himself dry before he catches a cold.
*''[[Pokémon Ranger and the Temple of the Sea]]''
:As Ash and May go swimming with {{p|Manaphy}}, they continuously shoot glances at each other and smile. This is accompanied by a school of {{p|Luvdisc}}, Pokémon thought to symbolize love.
:Later when they were in the submarine, May was crying up against the submarines window because she thought she had driven away Manaphy. The camera shoots a moment over to Ash who has a deeply concerned look.
:When the [[Sea Temple]] was being flooded with water, Ash put May, [[Ash's Pikachu|Pikachu]], and Manaphy in a capsule left behind by [[The Phantom]], allowing them to survive should his plan to replace the crystal fail. May continued to pray for Ash's safety and was nearly driven to tears when she thought he wouldn’t make it back. Manaphy sent May's prayers to Ash, and with these thoughts spurring him on, Ash recovered from his near-drown state and replaced the crystal, saving the Sea Temple.
:After the Sea Temple is raised, May leaves the capsule, at the beginning thrilled that the temple is saved (In the Japanese language version of the episode, she acknowledges that Satoshi is the one who saved the Temple by saying "This is Satoshi's doing, isn't it?"). Her happiness, however, is quickly replaced by sadness with the fear that Ash hasn't returned. "It can't be..." she says. "No way..." Her joy returns as soon as Ash flies up out of the water and chases down Phantom and saves the abducted Manaphy.
[[Image:AshMay&Ribbon.jpg|right|thumb|150px|Ash and May with the ribbon halves]]

===Diamond and Pearl saga===
* [[DP076]]
:May joins up with Ash, Brock, and Dawn in Sinnoh. Under a full moon, Ash and May both pull out their halves of the ribbon that they tied for, and hold the pieces together. May also says how the ribbon reminds her of Ash's encouragement, and how it has saved her numerous times in Johto.
* [[DP079]]
:Before May leaves to return to Johto, she and the rest of the group share goodbyes. She and Ash speak last, each telling the other to do their best in their respective paths. It is only when May is speaking with Ash (despite the fact she was exchanging farewells with everyone) that she holds her heart.

===Pokémon===
Ash and May have caught several of the same evolutionary lines;-
* Both have owned a {{p|Bulbasaur}} and a {{p|Squirtle}}
** The relationship between their two Bulbasaur has extended to the point where a separate shipping has been named for them, {{s|VineShipping}}.
* Ash has caught a {{p|Snorlax}} while May owns a {{p|Munchlax}}.
* Both have owned a fully evolved {{2t|Bug|Flying}} Pokémon that evolved from the first Pokémon that they caught ({{AP|Butterfree}} and {{TP|May|Beautifly}}),
* Both have a fully-evolved {{type2|Fire}} [[starter Pokémon]] from their home region ({{AP|Charizard}} and {{TP|May|Blaziken}}),
* ... and a fully-evolved {{type2|Grass}} starter Pokémon from ''each other's'' region ({{AP|Sceptile}} and {{TP|May|Venusaur}}).

==Alternate names==
AdvanceShipping has several alternate names and abbreviations that are commonly used on forums and in fanfiction. Less common variants on the name include '''AdvancedShipping''' '''MaSh''' (''Ma''y A''sh'') and ''AaMayL'', while in Japan the pairing is called '''SatoHaru''' (サトハル).

[[Image:Glitch_City_Map1.jpg|thumb|300px|right|Partially complete map of the Red/Blue version Glitch City accessed through the Cinnabar Coast]]
'''Glitch City''' is a term used by [[Pokémon games|Pokémon gamers]] to refer to a hidden fictional city caused by a [[computer bug|bug]] that occurs in the Pokémon video game [[Pokémon Red and Blue Versions|Red, Blue]] and [[Pokémon Yellow Version|Yellow]] versions. The term Glitch City is not to be confused with the term "Blue Hell" - a more general term that refers to a non-existent area in any interactive game.
===Finding Glitch City===

#Go to the [[Kanto Safari Zone|Safari Zone]] and walk around about 150 steps. (this will prevent having to walk and {{m|Surf}} up and down continuously later)
#When asked if you are leaving early, say no.
#In the Safari Zone, save the game, turn it off and turn it back on again.
#The man will ask if you want to join a Safari Game. Say no.
#Fly anywhere (for the Glitch City that is easiest to walk around in, fly to Cinnabar Island's east coast)
#Move for 500 steps, and then "Ding-dong!" will appear
#Leave the Safari Building and you will be in Glitch City

===Explanation===
In the Pokémon games, doors, cave entrances, etc., are coded as "warps" that are placed on tiles. Warps have two values: a value that specifies which map to take the player, and a value that specifies which warp on that map to take the player (Warps can only lead to other warps).

This glitch is caused by the player managing to exit the Safari Zone with the timer still running. The timer counts their steps, and when they run out of time, they are taken back to the Safari Zone gatehouse, regardless of whether or not they are actually in the Safari Zone. Now, the reason the player finds themselves in Glitch City upon exiting the gatehouse is that the warp on the door that ''would'' lead to [[Fuschia City]] actually points to Warp 4 on the last map you visited (hex:FF), which would work fine except that many maps don't ''have'' a Warp 4. This is why Glitch City works on some maps and not on others -- maps like the Cinnibar Coast and [[Cycling Road]] will result in Glitch Cities because they don't have a Warp 4, but maps like [[Viridian City]] and Fuschia City won't result in Glitch Cities because they ''do'' have a Warp 4.

Consequently, Glitch City is really nothing more than a corrupted version of whatever map you were on when you ran out of time. When a player views the [[Town Map]] while in Glitch City, the map will say that they are in the area they were in prior to entering Glitch City, because technically, they ''are'' in that area -- they're just in an incredibly corrupted version of that area. This is why, in the Cycling Road Glitch City, the player will constantly be walking downward (and why, when they try to ride the bike, they get the message "You can't get off here."). It is also why, in the [[Victory Road]] Glitch City, statues from Victory Road can be seen.

The dimensions of the source map are apparently preserved -- going too far in any direction while in a Glitch City will cause you to walk (or SURF) outside the map, crashing the game. Oddly, [[Pokémon Stadium]]'s [[Game Boy Advance|GBA]] Tower mistakes this crash for a corrupted game.

Although some aspects of the "sources" of Glitch City are preserved (such as Cycling Road's slope and Victory Road's statues), most other attributes of the source maps are completely changed, such as what is and what isn't walkable terrain. There are essentially five types of tiles in Glitch City: walkable tiles, ledges, walls, {{m|Surf}}-able tiles, and traps -- traps being tiles that, once you walk on them, you can't get off them. In many Glitch Cities the player cannot move at all. Because of the terrain alteration, there are many cases where you can Surf outside the map (see previous paragraph).

Apparently, in Glitch City, map links are ignored. That is, maps are "linked together" such that you can walk from one map into another (for example, from Pallet Town into Route 1); these links are ignored in Glitch City so that if you manage to navigate to where an adjacent map ''should'' be and try to walk into it, the results will be the same as if you walked outside of the map.

In [[Pokémon Yellow Version]], Glitch City appears to have a profound effect on {{p|Pikachu}}'s overworld artificial intelligence, causing it to run to and from random places. Certain glitched tiles also make it disappear, although it will reappear and follow your recorded path once you leave the tiles.

The only way to end the glitch is to {{m|Fly}} out of Glitch City. Don't worry about the map being permanently destroyed -- the corruption is only temporary and you can safely return to the map that you entered Glitch City from at any time. However, saving while in Glitch City is not recommended.

===Quirks===
#Pressing START while in Glitch City (or fishing) often changes the appearance of glitched terrain. In some cases all terrain may be changed into {{m|Surf}}-able water tiles.
#Wild Pokémon data appears to be inherited from the map you entered Glitch City from; Tentacool, for example, are common in the Cinnibar Coast Glitch City. However, the Cinnibar Coast Glitch City sometimes also contains [[MissingNo.]] and [['M]] for the same reason.
#The background music is also taken from the map you entered Glitch City from. The reason the overworld music plays on sea routes is because that is the background music for the route -- you just never hear it because there's no land on that route and {{m|Surf}} has its own music.
#If the glitch is done whilst in the middle of jumping off a ledge in a route that has a Door 4, upon returning to that route, you may be able to walk through walls.
#The Glitch Cities found in [[Pokémon Yellow Version]] are different to those that are found in [[Pokémon Red and Blue Versions]].

===Cinnabar Coast Glitch City===
In the Glitch City accessed through the Cinnabar Coast, in some cases players are able to surf in a northern direction until they reach the barrier that normally prevents them to leave [[Route 20]] northward. However, if a player surfs too far north (or in any direction), they will actually surf outside the map and crash the game.

Because invisible walls that trap the player exist on the western side of the city, going north is usually the only way to escape the normal Glitch City. If a player goes to the westernmost "checker-board" water pattern in the city, and goes left of it one square and then right one square, this will enable the entire city to become water (when the player presses "start") and allow the player to swim north until they surf outside the map. Once the player is far north, but not so far that they crash the game, the player can swim east or west for a long period of time until they exit the map and crash the game.

===Other Glitch Cities===

In the [[Pokémon Yellow Version]], if the player goes to [[Route 13]] while doing the Glitch City trick, the player will be transported to a Glitch City where any move the player makes will send him or her to the [[Saffron Gym]]. Once he or she leaves the gym, the player will be in a completely different Glitch City.

==Prevention of Glitch City in later games==
The Safari Zone was not included in the [[Pokémon Gold and Silver Versions|Pokémon Gold, Silver]], and [[Pokémon Crystal Version|Crystal]] Versions -- regardless of whether or not it was deliberately removed because of Glitch City (which has lead to much speculation but nothing is known for sure), the removal of the Safari Zone nonetheless prevents Glitch City from occurring the way it does in the Red, Blue and Yellow versions. However, there is a method of getting to a glitched area that is very similar in appearance to Glitch City. The player must use a [[GameShark]] to encounter a [[?????]]. When it is defeated or captured, the player will be in the "GSC Glitch City".

In [[Pokémon Ruby and Sapphire Versions|Pokémon Ruby, Sapphire]], and [[Pokémon Emerald Version|Emerald]] Versions, the player must exit the Safari Zone by using the Start menu and selecting "Retire." A warden also goes outside and blocks the door, so the player cannot return to the Safari Zone lobby while using the Safari Zone.

In [[Pokémon FireRed and LeafGreen Versions]], the player cannot save the game while inside the Safari Zone, therefore making it impossible to access Glitch City.
