'''Characteristics''' are a new feature in [[Generation IV]] that indicates which stat contains a [[Pokémon]]'s highest [[IV]]. It is displayed on the Pokémon's profile screen where its [[nature]], date met, place met, and berry flavor preference are shown.

A Pokémon's characteristic is determined by the remainder of its highest IV divided by 5 (known as [[wp:modulo operation|modulo operation]] in programming). Since it is built this way, Pokémon transfered from the {{pkmn|games}} of [[Generation III]] via [[Pal Park]] have a characteristic without their stats being changed.

Note that having a certain characteristic does not necessarily imply that the highest possible value for an IV is present. A Pokémon with an "Alert to sounds" characteristic could have a 6 in Speed (and thus very low IVs across all it's stats since none could be higher than 6) instead of a 31 in Speed.

Hello, my name is Korby.

I have been playing the Pokémon games since [[2000]] and have beaten [[Pokémon Red|Red]], [[Pokémon Gold|Gold]], [[Pokémon Ruby|Ruby]], [[Pokémon Sapphire|Sapphire]], [[Pokémon LeafGreen|LeafGreen]], [[Pokémon FireRed|FireRed]], and [[Pokémon Emerald|Emerald]]. I also own [[Pokémon Blue|Blue]], [[Pokémon Yellow|Yellow]], [[Pokémon Silver|Silver]], and [[Pokémon Crystal|Crystal]].

To date, I have captured 381 Pokémon in the [[Generation III|3rd generation series]], leaving only [[Mew (Pokémon)|Mew]], [[Ho-Oh (Pokémon)|Ho-oh]], [[Lugia (Pokémon)|Lugia]], [[Celebi (Pokémon)|Celebi]] and [[Deoxys (Pokémon)|Deoxys]] to capture. Of those 5, I have previously obtained Mew from a Nintendo Event, and have captured Ho-oh and Lugia in the [[Generation II|2nd generation games]].

In addition to the Game Boy games, I also own [[Pokémon Stadium|Pokémon Stadium 1]] and [[Pokémon Stadium 2|2]], [[Pokémon Colosseum]], [[Pokémon Box Ruby and Sapphire]], and [[Pokémon Channel]].

Rica Matsumoto was born on November 30, 1968, in [[wp:Yokohama|Yokohama]], Japan. After becoming interested in theater, she discovered voice acting and singing.

==Generation II==
To activate the Mystery Gift feature in the Generation II games, talk to the girl in green on the fifth floor of the [[Goldenrod]] Department Store. She will activate the feature for you.

The mystery gift is used in conjunction with the IR port on top of the Game Boy Color to communicate with other Mystery Gift enabled games to give other players either room decorations, or items. It can also be used with the [[Pokémon Stadium 2]] game.

==Generation III==
To activate the Mystery Gift feature in the Generation III games, simply walk up to the clipboard found at any [[PokéMart]] and enter the phrase:
