They were used to capture the running pokemon (Meoth, Pikachu and the cloned pokemons), though Mewtwo used it's psychich powers to release them, making them somewhat uninteresting...
Ball Images
Replacing Images
I don't think that the current images for Hoenn Balls and Poke and Great Ball are nice. I think they're ugly imitations of Sugimori Artwork. I have a Sugimori Artworks for almost all PokeBalls (the Johto ones are bad-qualited, though) and I think they're much better. I think we should replace the current images with the Sugimori's ones.
:I dunno, I don't think the current ones look bad at all - just big, given how much they stretch the rows of the table. And how bad quality are you talking for the Johto ones? Call me a sprite fanatic, but I think the third generation item sprites would look best in the tables. The second generation ones would be missing, but, as I said, I could make some custom ones. Also, I'm not particularly fond of the anime Pokéball image, since it's so heavily pixelated... --Pie 01:36, 19 June 2006 (UTC)
One big vs. many small
I've been talking with TTE. The idea of breaking some of the meat of this article up still bugs me on some level, but... well, might as well bring the idea to everyone.

The idea, basically, is to start having articles for groups of items as well as individual. This one, for example, would be moved to "Ball", and the lower section would link to the different articles on individual item types. If we do this for this one, we do it for all item groups...

Thoughts? --Pie ~♪♫ 02:58, 16 April 2007 (UTC)
What is the increase of efficiency for a dive ball when you are capturing a water/bug hybrid?
:That's the Net Ball that raises the multiplier for Water or Bug Pokémon. Dive Ball in Gen III works better on Pokémon underwater, and in Gen IV works better on Pokémon you encounter while Surfing. Anyway, I think it doesn't stack, but I dunno. Should Sir Aaron's Staff be considered a pre-pokéball object as well? Also, should it be noted about how time passes for pokémon contained within pokéballs? The passage of time seems to vary between pokéball and pokéball like objects, when in pokéballs, pokémon seem to be conscious (as trainers give commands before releasing them) but don't physically age, but in some other pokéball like object, time passes as if there sleeping while there in the object. amaster6000 11:12, 17 January 2008 (UTC)
:There is obviously very little passage of time in Aaron's staff; long enough for Lucario to stew in his rage, but quick enough apparently for him to still be blind. :::Reviving something old here, but really. The Master Ball is an important part of the game, just because we list where you can obtain one doesn't make us a "strategy guide", in my opinion it makes us more like an encyclopedia as an encyclopedia tries to have all the information on something, including the locations of things. Making a new article is taking it a little too far, but if it hasn't been done already (and I skimmed through the article and it seems to not have been done) we should list the locations of the Master Balls. == Opponent's only keep Pokémon in Poké Balls? ==

"In the games, all opponents keep their Pokémon in Poké Balls. The reason for this is unknown."

Whoever put this up, what is this supposed to mean? If you mean they always keep them in Balls, then it's false, because there are countless trainers in-game that let their Pokémon wander around, and in Colosseum and XD you can even battle them, but they'll go back into their Ball pre-battle.

I interpreted as the type of Ball, since it's true all opponents keep them in Poké Balls, not Ultra Balls or whatever, but since there's contention, I think some real clarification would be nice. Dragoness 04:39, 27 December 2008 (UTC)
:I sure of seen some other ball somewhere, but thats besides the point. ::::Yes, Greevil clearly commanded it to attack and it did, not to mention you had to use a Snag Ball to catch it, not a regular Ball like the wild Pokémon. There are other examples in that game. In Phenac, a Peon is talking to his Absol before you battle him, and he uses the Absol in battle. In Agate Village, there is an old woman standing with a Mightyena and if you choose to battle her, she uses the Mightyena. Eagun also keeps his Pikachu out but still uses it to battle. Half the anime pokeballs are actully just customized pokeballs painted to look unique, namely the Lake Ball, Chansey ball, Green Pokeball and Rocket Ball. The game series also suggest that custom poke balls exist in this manner; when you deliver Oak's Parcel he states it's a custom ordered Poke Ball. By listeing these under the heading "Customized Pokeballs" we can save some space.--Lego3400 23:49, 2 June 2009 (UTC)
The Safari and Park Balls
So I'm a bit confused here. In every generation there have been Safari Balls or Park Balls, yet we only have three images for Safari/Park Balls and no mention of their different appearances. There should exist:
Gen. 1: Safari Balls (no sprites exist but should have official artwork);
Gen. 2: Park Balls (GSC);
Gen. 3: Safari Balls (for Emerald and FRLG);
Gen. 4: Park Balls (DPP)*, Safari Balls (DP&P)*, Compé Balls (HGSS)*, plus possibly HGSS Safari Balls. (*We have these.)
I'd personally like to see a note on the page mentioning that there have been several different forms for Safari Ball, with pics if possible. (I seem to remember that Gen. 1 Safari Balls were green with a black "S" on them and that Gen. 3 had spikey orange designs on lime green.)
Well I was playing my Pokemon Platinum game one day and I saw Lucian in the Canalave Library, which surprised me. He told me that Pokemon instinctively curl into a ball to recuperate and that is why they'll be caught by a Pokeball. Unfortunately, I don't have his exact words. This event happened on a Thursday between 5 and 6pm and I had already beaten the Elite Four once. I didn't see anything about what he said on the Pokeball page and I didn't know if anyone else here has gotten to talk to Lucian at the library. It was interesting information but I didn't know if that should be added to the page or not.--Kitty 20:50, 6 February 2010 (UTC)

Team Rocket Balls...
I clearly remember seeing black balls thrown by the head of Team Rocket in "Mewtwo's Return" feature length episode. Now it's a bit sad since I juest returned the darn video to the rental store and check on this which I saw just moments ago! From my poor memeory I think they were just black pokeballs with the typicial Team Rocket red R instead of red dot.

They were used to capture the running pokemon (Meoth, Pikachu and the cloned pokemons), though Mewtwo used it's psychich powers to release them, making them somewhat uninteresting...
Actually, I think you're thinking of the PokéBalls being thrown by the Team Rocket grunts at the herd of Tauros that Mewtwo was lifting with Psychic.Missingno. Master 02:00, 19 October 2007 (UTC)
Ball Images
The large images are nice, I admit, but perhaps using sprites would make the tables look neater and, by having ones for the Safari, Ultra and Master Balls, more complete? == Replacing Images ==

:::Reviving something old here, but really. The Master Ball is an important part of the game, just because we list where you can obtain one doesn't make us a "strategy guide", in my opinion it makes us more like an encyclopedia as an encyclopedia tries to have all the information on something, including the locations of things.

So I'm a bit confused here. In every generation there have been Safari Balls or Park Balls, yet we only have three images for Safari/Park Balls and no mention of their different appearances. There should exist:
Gen. 1: Safari Balls (no sprites exist but should have official artwork);
Gen. 2: Park Balls (GSC);
Gen. 3: Safari Balls (for Emerald and FRLG);
Also, this might help when looking for refs... and inconsistencies: http://archives.bulbagarden.net/wiki/File:Safari_ball_issues.jpg
:Um... we don't need Gen I ones, because it's stricly game sprites only. I have emerald, but need help getting screenshots. I COULD ALSO PROVE THE CELEBI GLITCH WITH SCREENSHOTS! SpecialK Leiks Lucario and The Celebi Glitch 17:25, 2 February 2010 (UTC)
::Norle has some very good points. Unfortunently this is the Pokémon fandom, where good points are ignored and wild speculation is ripe. These variations on the Safari Balls sound interesting. Me, Hurray! 15:01, 3 February 2010 (UTC)
Lucian's Comments
Well I was playing my Pokemon Platinum game one day and I saw Lucian in the Canalave Library, which surprised me. He told me that Pokemon instinctively curl into a ball to recuperate and that is why they'll be caught by a Pokeball. Unfortunately, I don't have his exact words. This event happened on a Thursday between 5 and 6pm and I had already beaten the Elite Four once. I didn't see anything about what he said on the Pokeball page and I didn't know if anyone else here has gotten to talk to Lucian at the library. It was interesting information but I didn't know if that should be added to the page or not.
