Speed stat = [((IV + 2 * Base + (EV/4)) * Level/100) + 5] * Nature, where IV is the IV in that specific stat, Base is the base stat, and nature is either 0.9 (for one that lowers) or 1.1 (for one that raises). With a neutral nature and absolute crap for IVs (a 0 in Speed, lowest you can get), your Magikarp's Speed at level 50, without any training would be 85. However, I assume it's not yet level 50, at least slightly trained, and doesn't have a 0 in its IVs for Speed. :Nope. If a Gyarados knows a move that's not in Magikarp's level-up movelist, the ensuing Magikarp will not know that move. The only moves you can get onto a hatched Magikarp by breeding are Tackle and Flail, and that's if both parents know the moves in question; Splash is its basic move, whereas it can't even learn Dragon Rage and Rage. --Shiningpikablu252 15:20, 13 April 2009 (UTC)
What do you mean by "Due to its low stats (Speed, however, at 80, being the highest)",her status screen clearly says 116? Lovely Rose 23:10, 4 January 2009 (UTC)
Oh..Okay then! Just making sure Lovely Rose 23:14, 4 January 2009 (UTC)

The base stats give you an idea of where the stats will fall (such as, your Magikarp's not gonna likely have 100+ Attack until sometime around level 70) but do not state the exact stats. <span style="color:#FF0000">TTE</span>chidna 18:41, 6 January 2009 (UTC)
Turning Magikarp to Mew
The text says "A glitch in the early Japanese games, Red, Green, and Blue, allowed players to transform their Magikarp into a Mew. However, this Mew was not registered in the Pokédex, did not have the same stats nor moves, and caused some major glitches to the player's items pack." Is this actually true?
Demographics
The population of Lavaridge Town is 23. This low number is probably due, in part, to Lavaridge's location high up in the mountains. It is probably based on Aso City in Mount Aso region in Kumamoto on Kyushu island given its hot spring and volcano references.

Name origin
Lavaridge comes from lava, molten rock expelled from a volcano, and ridge, a raised land formation commonly associated with volcanic activity.
Lavaridge Town (Japanese: フエンタウン Fuen Town) is a small, pretty town in central Hoenn. It is located on the southern foot of Mt. Chimney. The town's motto is "Pokémon Center Hot Springs An Excellent Place for Relaxing!"

Pokémon Trainers often come to Lavaridge Town in order to win the Heatbadge from Flannery, the Lavaridge Gym Leader who specializes in Fire-type Pokémon.

North of the town is the Jagged Pass, leading down from Mt. Chimney. East of the town is Route 112.

Places of Interest
Hot Springs
Located behind the Pokémon Center. The people draw as much hot water as they need, yet the spring never runs dry. The magma in the active volcano causes veins of water nearby to well up as hot springs. According to legend, the Lavaridge hotsprings calm tension, relieve muscle ache, solve romantic problems, and attract money. An old couple relaxing at the springs will give away a Pokémon egg containing a Wynaut. There is also an Ice Heal hidden in the water.

Pokémon Herb Shop
"Bitter taste - better cure!" The Herb Shop sells four different types of herbal medicine. The herbs are extremely bitter and will cause a Pokémon's Happiness to decrease when used. An old man inside of the shop will give the player Charcoal.
Celebi (Japanese: セレビィ Serebii) is a Legendary Psychic/Grass-type Pokémon, first appearing in Generation II. It has only been officially available in the Japanese version of Pokémon Crystal (via Nintendo's Mobile System GB service, which was discontinued on December 14, 2002) and through the Japanese Pokémon Colosseum bonus disk, as well as various promotional events.

Celebi comes with the ability Natural Cure, which heals a status ailment when the Pokémon is withdrawn from battle.

Celebi does not evolve and is the last Pokémon in both the Johto Dex and National Dex within Generation II.

Biology
Physiology
Celebi is a green fairy-like creature. Celebi has round, toe-less feet, three-fingered hands and clear wings on its back. Celebi has a round head that comes to a point and sticks upward in the back, large baby-blue eyes with black rings around them and a pair of green antenna that are tipped blue.

Gender differences
Celebi is a genderless species.

Special abilities
Celebi has the power to travel through time. Celebi can restore plants to perfect health (an ability that is also accredited to Meganium). Celebi mainly attacks with suprisingly powerful Grass and Psychic attacks.

Behavior
Celebi, like Mew, is a very playful species in general. Celebi are extremely powerful despite their small size, another trait they have in common with Mew. Celebi also can be very timid, despite their awesome power. Although multiple Celebi have been seen at one time, it is unknown if they are different individuals or the same Celebi from different time periods.

Habitat
Because Celebi travels time, it may inhabit many places. However, Celebi is generally associated with forests. Because of this, it is known as the spirit and guardian of the forest.

Diet
In the anime
Celebi first appeared in Pokémon 4Ever. A Pokémon hunter was after it and Celebi traveled 40 years into future to escape from him; taking the young Sammy Oak along with it. Vicious eventually captured the Time traveling Pokémon in a Dark Ball and used it to destroy the forest. Ash and Sammy managed to snap Celebi out of The Iron Masked Maruader's control.

Celebi also made an appearance in Pokémon Chronicles. In Celebi and Joy, Celebi took Ritchie back in time to help stop the destruction of a Pokémon Center.

Celebi also appeared in Green Guardian. The Pokémon Ranger, Solana accompanied Ash and friends in helping the Time Traveling Pokémon.

In the manga
In Pokémon Special, Ruby has a Celebi that he tries to keep a secret from everyone.
Then, when relased in the end of RS Saga, it revives Norman and Steven.

In the TCG
Other appearances
Super Smash Bros. Melee
When a Pokéball is thrown, there is a 1 in 251 chance of Celebi appearing after all these requirements have been fulfilled:
*Unlock all 25 characters
*Unlock all 29 stages
*Beat all 51 events
*Unlock the score display (by reaching 5000 KOs.)
It does not affect the battle but the thrower of the Pokéball will earn a bonus and trophy of Celebi.

* Celebi was the only Pokémon of the 100 Generation II Pokémon that wasn't used in the Johto Pokérap.

Origin
It may be based on a fairy or dryad.

Name origin
Celebi's name may be a combination of celestial and being. Celebi's Japanese name may be taken to be a combination of the English serenity and the Japanese bii, which translates to beautiful. It may also come from celery, due to the fact that Celebi is a Grass-type. It is interesting to note the similarity between "Celebi" and "telebi," the Japanese word for "television."

Dude, Pikachu looks *nothing* like a pika. Seriously.

It does in pictures I saw in National Geographic...LedianX 05:46, 27 Mar 2005 (UTC)

Not in any pictures I've ever seen. Pikas look more like nutrias to me.

I don't now what nutrias are, but I do know that Pikachu looks like a rabbit.

Regarding the name origin, I've been told that pikapika is an "expression for the brightness of gold", not simply just meaning sparkle. Can someone confirm? --Archaic 13:26, 18 Apr 2005 (UTC)

It is a very broad sound symbolism for sparkle - from daiya-ga pikapika hikaru (diamonds sparkle) to pikapika-no kagu (well-polished furniture), from hoshi-ga pikapika hikaru (stars twinkle) to pikapika-no ichinensei (not even going to try to figure this one out). I suppose it wouldn't be too far of a stretch to say "gold shines" using pikapika. - 振霖T 14:48, 18 Apr 2005 (UTC)

pikapika-no ichinensei. Gah, I never wanted to hear that again. One company uses that almost like a motto in every one of their rather annoying ads. They're probably in some of the old encodes I did. --Archaic 01:13, 19 Apr 2005 (UTC)
Kanto Native?
I noticed that in the games, Pikachu can only be found "in the wild" in the Kanto Region. In GSC, Pikachu was only on Route 2 in Kanto, in RSE, it was only in the Safari Zone, which contained only "imported" Pokemon (that is, no Generation III Pokemon), and in DP, it's only in the Trophy Garden, a place that's basically confirmed to be importing Pokemon from other regions.

These "coincidences" lead me to believe that Pikachu is native to the Kanto Region, and its appearance everywhere else is due to humans bringing them to other locals.

Ignoring anamonlies like Pokemon Ranger, would it be a stretch to say that Pikachu are normally found only in Kanto as a piece of Trivia?--PikamasterADV 19:37, 23 May 2007 (UTC)
::I'd think it's Kanto-native, too, but yeah, Fiore brings up a problem.
