Are there any reasonable explanations for the origin of its name? I've seen "Nymph" and "Ninja" floating around, but maybe someone who knows more about Japanese could take a closer look at its name (especially with the other Eeveelutions' names being very straightforward). --Perlgia (talk) 08:24, 13 February 2013 (UTC)

Route 119 is an extremely long north-south route located in central Hoenn. The path, linking Fortree City in the north with 118 to the south, is home to the Weather Institute and is one of the few routes with long grass and variable weather conditions. It is also home to Feebas, Hoenn's version of Magikarp. However, unlike Magikarp, Feebas is difficult to find and evolves only if its Beauty rating is high. The desire to obtain a Milotic, Feebas's evolved form, is what often lures trainers to Route 119.

Route description
Heading north from Route 118, Route 119 begins as a short path before reaching the southern-most point of a large field of long grass. Because of the length of the grass, it is impossible to ride a Bicycle through the field, forcing trainers to walk through. As trainers enter the grass, it often begins to rain, and this affects all battles on the route. Mixed throughout the grass are six trainers, as well as two items. North of the field, Route 119 parallels a river for a short distance, allowing trainers to Surf across the river to gain access to another trainer, an item and another patch of grass.

Returning to the main path, Route 119 passes a trainer as it turns northeast to follow the course of the river, which flows north-south to its southern end on Route 118. As it returns north, the route begins climbing uphill. After ascending a set of stairs, trainers can pass through a patch of grass to reach a loamy soil patch with Sitrus and Leppa Berries. Also, by using the Acro Bike, they can cross a narrow bridge to reach an area with no items of interest other than two locations that can be used to create a Secret Base.

The main path of the route continues up the side of a hill, ascending two more flights and turning northeast as it passes a pair of trainers, including Pokémon Ranger Catherine. At the top of the hill, near Catherine, the route sharply turns to the west, crossing one of the longest bridges in Hoenn to traverse the river valley below. On the other side, the route curves north as it climbs up another set of stairs. Just north of this point is Pokémon Ranger Jackson, followed by a grass patch to his immediate north.

North of this patch is a split in the route. The west branch contains only one trainer and offers a direct path to the Weather Institute. The drawback is that trainers must have the Mach Bike to use it. The east branch has no trainers but is occupied by a large amount of grass. Near the northeast corner of this path is an Elixir lying in the grass. To the west of the item, the east path ascends two sets of stairs before merging with the west path, which encounters another trainer on the way to this junction, on top of the hill.

Between this point and the Weather Institute, Route 119 runs northwest along the edges of a pair of grassy areas. At the Weather Institute, the route turns east, crossing the river once again.

On the east bank of the river, Route 119 comes to a three-way intersection. To the south of this point is the only area where trainers can Surf from on the upper portion of the river. The main path of Route 119 turns north, where the player will encounter their rival for a battle.

By Surfing south along the river from this point, trainers can reach a Leaf Stone located just north of a waterfall. By Surfing north, trainers that can use Waterfall can climb a small waterfall to reach an upper area of Route 119 containing Hondew Berries. Trainers with Acro Bikes will be able to reach a Rare Candy by crossing a series of bridges.

North of the three-way junction, Route 119 continues to the northeast, passing a pair of ninjas attempting to camouflage themselves as trees amongst the forest. Near the northern end is another loamy soil patch containing three Pomeg Berry plants. Directly east of the patch is the west entrance to Fortree City.

Finding Feebas
Feebas is an elusive find along Route 119. Instead of fishing in any location as customary with most Pokémon, Feebas is located in only six water blocks along the route. There is no easy method to determine which block contains Feebas, as the only way is to drop a line into each and every water block on the route. Once hooked, however, Feebas is an easy catch.
Molly Hale (Japanese: ミー・スノードン Me Snowdon) is a little girl from the town of Greenfield, the daughter of two researchers. Her Japanese voice is 矢島晶子 Akiko Yajima, and her English voice is Amy Birnbaum.

In the movie Spell of the Unown, both her parents disappear; first her unnamed mother, then her father Spencer, leaving her in the care of the family servants. Her father left behind a mysterious puzzle box with Unown letter tiles.

Molly uses the tiles to spell the names of people important to her, and when she begins to cry, the Unown spring to life and grant her wish.

The town is engulfed by crystal, enveloping everything and driving everyone but Molly from the mansion. Molly's wish for better companionship brings about a bizarre entity -- just before he had left, Spencer had read her a story about the great volcano beast Entei, and so the Unown summon a spectral Entei to serve as her father.

Molly decides she needs a mother as well, and has the Entei bring Delia Ketchum to her. Delia is hypnotized into believing that she is the girl's true mother until she sees her son Ash risk his life to enter the crystallized mansion. Since that moment, Delia tries to reason with Molly, helping and protecting her through the movie.

Molly takes three forms over the course of the movie -- her true form as a small child, a pre-teen to battle Misty, and a teenager to face Brock. The last two were crystalline like Entei, and can be interpreted as a physical manifestation of her dreams while her real body is asleep in her bedroom.

By the end, Molly realizes what her wish is doing to those around her, and the false Entei sacrifices himself to drive away the Unown.

She is not alone for long, as her father, and later her mother, both returned soon.

During the end credits, she has a real Pokémon, a Teddiursa.
How do we know for sure that shinyness and other factors don't affect the scores? I'm Missingno. Master, and I approve this message. 10:28, 11 May 2008 (UTC)
Unless shininess affects the stats (which, I've found, it doesn't) then it won't affect the score. The score is determined by the overall stats and the amount of health remaining. For further details, look a couple topics down. --MarkoOhNo 17:11, 13 October 2009 (UTC)
According to the National Park page, Paras cannot be obtained outside the bug catching contest. If this is true, not only does this page contain false information, it leaves Venonat as the only Pokémon catchable outside the contest leading me to want this
:"Except for Caterpie and Metapod in Gold, and Weedle and Kakuna in Silver, none of the above Pokémon are seen in the National Park outside the Bug-Catching Contest.
I spent a lot of time studying the numbers and this appears to be how the score is determined: it is the combined stats (attack + defense + special attack + special defense + speed) times a multiplier (which I've found ranged from about 1.8 to 3.0. The multiplier's primarily affected by the health of the pokemon when it's caught. If you catch one without weakening it at all, you get the highest possible multiplier. Whether or not this is affected by a change in the pokemon's status condition, I'm not sure. Plus I think number of rounds taken to capture and/or number of pokeballs used in the attempt might affect the multiplier. But this appears to be the primary conditions: stats and remaining hp. I've caught a level 15 Pinsir and not even registered in the rankings because I caught it with about 4 hp remaining, but have won using a level 13 Venonat which still had all of its hp. Rarity and level affect the stats... sort of. The rarer pokemon on the field tend to have higher stats, and of course level affects stats. But if you can catch something without damaging it, you have a pretty good chance at winning. This last time, I got first place on the first try and that didn't happen hardly ever before I discovered this. (Btw, this was discovered using SoulSilver(Jpn).) --MarkoOhNo 17:05, 13 October 2009 (UTC)

I may have been premature on this. After continued study, it looks as though the length of time taken to capture or number of failed attempts may have a more significant impact on the score. I caught a level 14 Pinsir and won, but the point multiplier was barely above 2.0 (stats totaled 157, winning score was 336... I was expecting something about 100 points higher.) It took several rounds to capture this one... so... I'll continue to study this and report any further findings. I won't be satisfied until I know the mathematical formula of exactly how the score is determined. It's a question which has haunted me since G/S/C first came out. --MarkoOhNo 18:48, 16 October 2009 (UTC)
You can get a Water Stone prior to the National Dex, just not from the Bug-Catching Contest. Also, once you add Fisherman Tully to your call list, he'll sometimes call to offer you a Water Stone. Sometimes that's the prize for beating him in a rematch. But yes.
This point probably isn't important but in EP090 (Stage Fight) Jynx is shown to have hairy feet - you can see them near the end of the episode when all of the Pokémon are dancing, kicking their legs/feet. Can this be confirmed? --☆Woodland:M ☆ 21:15, 8 August 2008 (UTC)
Mean With Envy
From the controversy section:
"This change was not reflected in the anime until much later, when Jynx appeared in Mean With Envy, an episode which could not be cut from airing due to its importance to the plot of the Advanced Generation series. Though appearing as black in the original Japanese, Jynx was recolored in the dub, causing a delay in the airing of the episode. Jynx has appeared since using its new design with no problems."

I don't watch the Japanese episodes, but wasn't she was purple in the Japanese version of that episode too? I remember people being very annoyed that the episodes aired late BECAUSE Jynx had already been fixed in them, even in the original airing, and Serebii also has pictures of the Japanese version of the episode and she's purple in them too. Razzia

:: Yeah, the opera character is a Valkyrie if I read right. I changed the picture to something a little more pleasant. Its just I've kind of always put the two together, even as a kid. I'm surprised there was no mention of such a thing in Jynx origin. Many focus on the it being from a Japanese trend, or go to the racist thing and might over look the other things it could originate from. Yami 23:04, 17 November 2009 (UTC)

::: Should I add the info on it possibly being based in some part on the "fat lady" aka Valkyrie Brünhilde? Or would that seem to opinionated/need some kind of pain in the butt citation? From experience I know a article could be full of uncited and/or opinionated things, but when I come around I get confronted and told off. I think this would be a welcomed addition, and might level out some of the negative origin. Yami 23:30, 17 November 2009 (UTC)
::::The problem I can see with it is simply this: would it be reasonable to believe that Jynx is based off of them? I'm not familiar with Japan, so the main question is whether they're well-known over there; enough so to be the origin for a Pokémon. The Dark Fiddler - You enter a poorly lit room... 23:53, 17 November 2009 (UTC)

::::: I don't see why they wouldn't know of the Fat lady or the reference pretending to her in Opera and in cartoons. You have to remember that before the US had any influence in japan it was Europe mostly. I think the school girl uniforms are based on British sailor uniforms if I remember right. Then you have to take into account the Japanese love for Disney. DBZ which was made in the late 80's early 90's had three characters based on the Cinderella song "Bibidi Babadi Boo." Also I think Bugs Bunny has crossed over there in his 50+ years along with the other Looney Tunes. If Disney never made a reference to the Fat lady then Looney Tunes would defiantly be the next best bet. Opera started in Italy if I am correct, and we can all think of two Italians that came from Japan and made Nintendo lots of money. If Nintendo could bank on Italian Plumbers as a mascot for a multi-billion dollar company, I'm sure they have been influenced by western culture. Yami 00:36, 18 November 2009 (UTC)

:::::: So....would there be any objections if i add this? I just don't want to add the info then have to fight for it tooth and nail with someone wanting citations or anything. I've had plenty of experience with that, mostly on wikipedia but it is still a pain.

:::::: I'm still thinking of how to word it so the addition might not be done right away. I'm not sure if Valkyrie would be too vague or generic, or if the addition should be blunt and say Jynx appearance and behavior (look at the game sprite(s) in later gens) may be based of the stereotypical Fat lady that sings. Yami 16:11, 21 November 2009 (UTC)

:::::: Regular Wikipedia claims that Jynx's design was based on a blackface design; more specifically, it looks like a Golliwog, a rather racist doll depicting a black person. I understand the Valkyrie business, but since the U.S. version banned an episode because Jynx was black instead of purple, I think it's worthy of being mentioned in the article. Personally I disagree with Carole Wethorfords opinion. Jynx is tinted purple, not brown. The original desighn was jet black, not brown. Is black magic racist? Are shadows racist? Are black cats racist? If so than she would have alot of problems with fiction. Second, Jynx has blonde hair. The only blondes I know are caucasions.
