Blurb
<!--http://www.pokemon.com/us/pokemon-episodes/chronicles-15-putting-the-air-back-in-aerodactyl/-->
<i>Professor Oak and Tracey are visiting the island where Gary is currently doing research. But not only are Butch and Cassidy tracking their movements, the Professor and Tracey encounter a raging Aerodactyl the minute they arrive on the island! The researchers on the island study ancient fossils, and Gary had the idea to use a piece of amber and a fossilized Egg to revive ancient Pokémon. However, as soon as they revived Aerodactyl from the Egg, it escaped and went on a rampage! Crystal, the little sister of head researcher Dara, asks all her Pokémon friends on the island to help look for Aerodactyl. Sure enough, one of the Farfetch'd sees Aerodactyl and leads everyone to the spot.

Aerodactyl is sleeping near the spot where the fossilized Egg was found, but it wakes up and flies off. Tracey tries to grab onto it, only managing to jump off after a wild ride. Then, before everyone's eyes, Butch and Cassidy snag Aerodactyl in a net—Team Rocket has come to the island to grab this ancient Pokémon! Gary's Umbreon and Crystal's Ivysaur are able to beat Team Rocket, but Aerodactyl frees itself and flies away, agitated. It seems overwhelmed by its new environment, so the researchers figure out what food it likes in the hopes of understanding Aerodactyl's behavior.

As predicted, they find Aerodactyl eating in a grove of fruit trees, only to have Butch and Cassidy show up yet again. This time, they use a helicopter to help capture Aerodactyl and carry it away. Crystal's Ivysaur tries to stop them, but Gary just has his Dodrio jump on the helicopter to wreck Team Rocket's plans and help free Aerodactyl. Once free, all Aerodactyl wants is to eat in peace, but Gary approaches it with a peace offering of fruit. That wins Aerodactyl over, and soon Aerodactyl is happily eating the food that Crystal offers, too. With everything on the island back to normal, Professor Oak and Tracey say their fond farewells and return to Pallet Town.</i>

Plot
At a small town port, Professor Oak is looking at souvenirs and considering buying some for Delia. As he chooses between dark-chocolate Chansey and cream-filled Lickitung, Tracey calls him over to the pier. As Professor Oak sets down his suitcases, Tracey comments that he has packed a lot of stuff for the two days they will spend on Sayda Island. Professor Oak explains that they are presents for his grandson Gary. They wonder what Gary meant when he told them they had to see it, though Professor Oak is just looking forward to seeing him. Also destined for Sayda Island are Butch and Cassidy, on another mission ordered by Dr. Namba.

Just then, a boat arrives at the pier. Professor Oak and Tracey confirm who they are and the driver identifies himself as Jared, a research and development assistant at the Sayda Lab. The boat sets out, Jared tells Professor Oak and Tracey that Gary would have come to pick them up but he is finishing his project as they speak. Professor Oak asks what kind of project it is, though Jared says that he will see. A school of Seaking jumps out of the water exciting Tracey, as he has never sketched them before. As he makes his sketch, Professor Oak remembers having a Seaking when he was a Trainer after seeing it heading upstream near Vermilion City, as he felt that he could relate to it. As he concludes that they are pretty incredible, Jared tells him that Seaking aren't half as incredible as what they are about to see. As the boat arrives at Sayda Island, Jared tells Professor Oak that he won't believe what his grandson has done.

They walk along a path towards the lab until they hear a strange noise in the distance. Suddenly, an Aerodactyl appears in front of them. They fall to the ground and the Aerodactyl flies away. Just as Professor Oak shows his surprise at it being an Aerodactyl, Gary and head researcher Dora appear calling for it to come back. Gary forgets the Aerodactyl's escape to greet Professor Oak and Tracey. Professor Oak asks about the Aerodactyl, but Gary says they will explain when they get to the lab. Meanwhile, another boat arrives on the beach; Butch and Cassidy jump out and start searching for the Aerodactyl.

Inside the lab, there is a large display with life-size reconstructions of all the Kanto Fossil Pokémon. While they are now extinct, their DNA can be studied through the Fossils they left behind, such as the Old Amber that Gary found while he was on his journey. Dora explains that they already had a fossilized Aerodactyl Egg at the lab before Gary arrived. When Gary found that the DNA matched, they got the idea to combine them to bring an Aerodactyl back to life. Gary tells his grandfather that congratulations aren't in order, and shows a lot of destroyed equipment thanks to newly revived Aerodactyl. Arriving on the scene, Dora’s little sister, Crystal, mentions that she was the one who actually found the Fossil Egg. Professor Oak says that they need to find the Aerodactyl since it could be dangerous if it crosses the ocean. Crystal says that her friends could help them out. She whistles to her friends, some Lapras and Farfetch'd, and asks them to find Aerodactyl. Professor Oak comments that she will make an excellent Trainer one day.

Up in a tree, Butch and Cassidy are surveying the area. They are ready to concentrate, but Aerodactyl then flies up in front of them. It uses Gust to send them into the bushes below.

As they prepare a bigger net, Gary, Tracey and Professor Oak walk along a path calling for Aerodactyl. They stop when Gary sadly says that he should never have become a researcher, as all he wanted to do was be the best and make Professor Oak proud. Professor Oak and Tracey are more positive as reviving an Aerodactyl is a great accomplishment. Gary says he should have realized the consequences, to which Oak replies that everyone learns from their mistakes. Tracey adds that Ash wouldn't get so discouraged. Gary then asks if they have heard from Ash, and is pleased to hear that Ash has already collected several Gym Badges in Hoenn. Professor Oak assures Gary that his new journey has just begun and Tracey adds that learning is more important than the destination.

The Farfetch'd appears, gathering all the search party up at the islands highest point, where Crystal informs them that she found the fossilized Egg. Nearby, they find the Aerodactyl sleeping by a rock and try to sneak up on it. However, Crystal trips and disturbs it. The Aerodactyl flies off, though not before Tracey jumps and grabs onto one of its legs. As Tracey gets further away, Crystal calls to the Farfetch'd to follow. A scared Tracey asks the Aerodactyl to fly lower, alerting it to his presence and resulting in it trying to shake him off. As the others give pursuit, Aerodactyl flies over a clearing and Tracey jumps off.

While they check if Tracey is okay, a net suddenly appears and traps Aerodactyl. Butch and Cassidy announce their presence with a motto recital. As Cassidy declares that Aerodactyl is now theirs, Gary calls on his Gary. Cassidy sends out Houndour and Butch sends out Hitmontop. Houndour starts by using Bite on Umbreon. However, Umbreon dodges and counters with Tackle. Hitmontop then uses Rolling Kick which Umbreon also dodges. Crystal then tells Butch and Cassidy that they will pay for messing with Aerodactyl and sends out her Ivysaur. Ivysaur Tackles Houndour and then attacks Hitmontop with Vine Whip. Umbreon now uses a Quick Attack to send both Pokémon flying back. Ivysaur finishes with a Solar Beam that sends Butch and Cassidy into the air. From within its net, Aerodactyl uses a Hyper Beam to send them blasting off again.

This blast broke the net, allowing Aerodactyl to fly away again. It heads towards the ocean, but then turns around. Professor Oak guesses that it doesn't want to leave the island, which Gary agrees with realizing that it is because it is new to the world. Tracey wonders why such a powerful Pokémon would be scared of them. Professor Oak replies that a lot of Pokémon don't realize how powerful they are, and its confusion and the actions of Team Rocket have probably made it even more scared of humans. Professor Oak says that they now have to show that they don't mean it any harm. The question is how, and so Gary suggests feeding it. Dora then remembers that they found some fossilized seeds were discovered near the Egg.

Back at the lab, Gary compares the DNA of the seeds to the fruit DNA in their data bank. They find a match and Crystal recognizes that it still grows on the island. While Ivysaur picks the fruit, Professor Oak comments that all the flying will make it hungry soon. Aerodactyl soon arrives and is visibly enjoying the fruit on offer while the humans hide. Gary volunteers to feed it the one they have, but a helicopter appears in the sky.

Inside, Cassidy and Butch prepare another capture attempt. Aerodactyl flies off and the helicopter gives chase. As it reaches the ocean, Aerodactyl turns around and uses Whirlwind on the helicopter. Butch is finding it hard to keep control so Cassidy sends a mechanical arm forward to grab Aerodactyl. Crystal sends out Ivysaur to use Razor Leaf, but the attack doesn’t work on the helicopter’s metal construction. So Gary calls out his Dodrio, and it uses its powerful legs to leap onto the helicopter. It follows up with a fury of Drill Pecks which eventually cause the helicopter to blow up. A Hyper Beam from Aerodactyl sends Butch and Cassidy blasting off again. Crystal and Gary tell Ivysaur and Dodrio that they were great. Professor Oak comments that now they only need to get Aerodactyl to trust them.

As Aerodactyl eats another fruit, the group sneaks up on it again. It spots them and stands its ground, so Gary and Crystal run forward and try to convince Aerodactyl that they are friends with Pokémon. Umbreon, Dodrio, Ivysaur and the Farfetch'd come forward to confirm this. Gary tells it that they trust and care for each other and that they want to be its friend. Aerodactyl stops to consider this but then stands its ground again. Professor Oak is now unsure about the plan, but Gary walks forward to offer the fruit to Aerodactyl. Though Aerodactyl is scared, Gary manages to get it to eat the fruit. This makes it happy and it now becomes friendly towards them.

By the boat, Professor Oak and Tracey are getting ready to leave. Gary says he wants to research extinct Pokémon and Dora adds that they are offering him a job. Professor Oak tells his grandson that whatever he will do, he will do it well. Crystal comes over and asks if the Professor will come back. Oak assures her that he will and Tracey gives Crystal sketch of Ivysaur, which she loves. As everyone waves goodbye, Professor Oak tells Crystal to look after Aerodactyl and she tells him that he is the coolest. As the boat travels across the ocean, Tracey points out the Lapras to Professor Oak. Tracey says that Gary will be a great Pokémon Researcher, but Professor Oak corrects him; saying that he already is.

Trivia
* This episode aired between AG067 and AG068 in Japan.
* Tracey reads the title card of this episode.
* Dora is Gary's superior, and in turn is Jared's superior as well.
* According to Gary, Trainers often feed Pokémon to calm them down when they are trying to catch it. This is true of the Safari Zones of Kanto, Johto, and Hoenn, as well as the Great Marsh.
* The plot of this episode is very similar to Jurassic Park. Cassidy also says "We're going to need a bigger net" after seeing how big Aerodactly actually is, referencing Jaws, another Stephen Spielberg movie.

Errors
* The blurb for this episode incorrectly refers to Dora as "Dara".
* Aerodactyl uses Gust, a move that it cannot legally learn.
* In some scenes, Gary, Tracey, and Professor Oak are roughly the same size, but in others, Gary is noticeably smaller. For example, when Crystal calls the Lapras, they appear to be the same height, but when Crystal calls the Farfetch'd, Gary is smaller than the others.
* When Gary tells Dodrio to use Drill Peck, the attack it uses is more similar to Fury Attack. However, this might just be a different-looking version of the move.
* When pushing Crystal and Professor Oak's divided screens apart, Butch's gloves are missing.
* When Team Rocket appears in their helicopter, Crystal sends out her Ivysaur. This contradicts the earlier scene where it helps pick a fruit, and is not recalled into its Pokéball when the group hides in the bushes.
* In the English dub:
** In one scene, Gary incorrectly says "Aerodactyls" instead of just "Aerodactyl".
** Butch claims that Aerodactyl is 11 feet tall, when it is actually 5 feet 11 inches tall.

Dub edits
* In the Japanese version of the scene where Professor Oak, Jared, and Tracey watch the school of Seaking, instead of Oak mentioning that he once owned a Seaking, Tracey does the narration and thinks to himself how Gary had traveled to different places before settling down at Sayda Island to do research. Tracey also mentions that he and Oak got a letter asking them to come and check out Gary's newest findings.
* The narration at the end of the episode is different:
** The Japanese end narration by Tracey says, "Gary skillfully revived the prehistoric Pokémon, Aerodactyl, from its Fossil. What's more, he will continue to research remarkable things. I wish Gary all the best, and we will take these memories back with us to Pallet Town."
** The English end narration by the narrator says, "Professor Oak was proud of his grandson. By reviving and taming the Aerodactyl, Gary proved that he had all the makings of a great Oak scientist. And Professor Oak couldn't wait to see what he would come up with next."
* The green sign above the room has its text erased when Crystal appears.
* In the English dub, Butch and Cassidy talk about Aerodactyl's size and make jokes about it. In the original Japanese version, Cassidy is surprised that they're seeing a resurrected Aerodactyl. Butch then says that Namba was correct with his information, and they will catch it for the boss.
* In the English dub, Professor Oak says that like Onix, Pikachu, and other Pokémon, Aerodactyl doesn't know its own power. In the original Japanese version, he doesn't mention any Pokémon names.
* In the English dub, the text on Gary's computer screen gets erased.
Blurb
<!--http://www.pokemon.com/us/tv-episodes/season-0/episode-9-chronicles-09-the-blue-badge-of-courage/-->
<i>Misty has a problem: her Psyduck can't swim. It doesn't even like water! So when Tracey stops by the Cerulean Gym for a visit, the two Trainers give Psyduck some swimming lessons, with absolutely no success. Sakura, a familiar face from Ecruteak City, stops by the Gym to challenge her friend Misty and earn the Cascade Badge. That's when Misty gets a big surprise: the Gym ran out of badges, and her sisters forgot to tell her! The Cascade Badges are made by an artisan in Rifure Village, so Misty, Tracey, and Sakura head out to find him. Near the village, they rescue an injured man who turns out to be Kinzo, the very man they need.

Even with an injured ankle, Kinzo is a tough old man. He won't just hand over the badges; he wants everyone to work for them. That means waking up at 4 AM to run laps, split wood, and craft their own badges. If they don't do it right, they'll have to wake up the next morning and do it all over again! It takes two days to get the hang of it, and there's still one more test: a battle with Kinzo's Feraligatr. Misty accepts, but her Psyduck breaks out of its Poké Ball and falls into a pond. When Kinzo sees that, he refuses to give the Cascade Badges to someone whose Water Pokémon can't even swim!

When everyone returns to the cabin, they discover that thieves have stolen all the badges. Our heroes confront the two badge thieves, who refuse to give up. Instead, they send out their Poochyena and Zigzagoon to fight. But when Poochyena bites Psyduck on the head, it triggers Psyduck's real power, and it uses Confusion to stun the thieves. This proves to Kinzo that Misty is worthy of the badges after all, so now it's back to the Gym for Misty's battle with Sakura. Sakura's Espeon not only swims, it knocks Misty's Corsola out with Psybeam. At last, Sakura has earned her own Cascade Badge!</i>

Plot
Misty is discovering that many skills are required to be a great Gym Leader, including feeding time, which she has already mastered. As she is feeding Seel, Misty falls into the swimming pool again. Just as she rescues him, she hears a familiar voice, and is surprised to see Tracey at the door. Tracey explains that Professor Oak has asked him to go there to see if Misty needed help with any of the Pokémon. Misty tells him that she is having trouble teaching Psyduck to swim.

Tracey starts by getting Psyduck to do circular motions with its arms. Next, he gets Psyduck to get used to the feel of the water. However, the moment its feet touch the water, Psyduck screams and runs off. Once Misty brings Psyduck back, Tracey suggests finding a more fun way to get used to the water. This seems to work as Psyduck is very happy in the water with a life preserver. Next, Tracey puts his face in the water and encourages Psyduck to do the same. Yet as soon as its beak touches the water, Psyduck screams and runs off again.

While this is going on, another familiar face appears outside the Gym. Sakura, the girl Misty befriended in Ecruteak City, and her Sakura are feeling pretty confident for the Gym Battle they are planning to have. But as she enters the Gym, she meets Psyduck coming the other way...

Once she has recovered, Misty apologizes and asks Sakura why she is at the Gym. Sakura explains that she wants a rematch now that she has better battle skills. Misty introduces Tracey, and Sakura comments that she didn't know Misty had a boyfriend. They are both surprised before Misty explains that it is not like that, and that Tracey traveled with Ash and her in the Orange Islands. They compliment Espeon, and Misty sighs that it is not like Psyduck.

Misty shows them the pool that she has been fixing up, and since she has a free afternoon she says they can do the battle now. Sakura asks if Misty has any Cascades, which surprises Misty, so Tracey tells her that as she is a Gym Leader she may as well make it official. Sakura shows the three that she already has—the Storm, Zephyr, and Hive. Misty goes to find the Badges, but there are none left. She calls Daisy, who informs her that they ran out, which Misty comments is typical. Daisy tells them that they will have to go to Rifure Village to pick up a new batch. Misty feels like Cinderella, but Tracey and Sakura encourage her to go.

After giving the keys to Nurse Joy, who will be looking after the Gym while Misty is away, Misty heads towards Rifure Village. That evening, they find themselves near a mountain. Misty says that the village should be nearby, but Espeon suddenly runs down a side-road. They chase after it, until they find a body on the ground. Asking if he is alright, he explains that he fell from a tree and twisted his ankle. He asks that they take him to his cabin, and explains that he must have slipped while doing his morning tree jumping. Once his ankle is in a plaster, they explain why they are there, and he tells them that he is Kinso the Badge maker.

Misty asks for a new batch of Cascade Badges, but this angers Kinso for some reason. He explains that he won't just give Badges, and that they must work to earn them. Through arduous work one recognizes value, besides badges don't grow on trees! Misty accepts and Sakura and Tracey also join her. Kinso tells them to go to bed as the morning comes very early, 4 AM to be exact.

Once they are out of bed, Kinso tells them all to run round the mountain as healthy circulation helps the fingers to obey the brain. He won't be coming because his ankle is still bad. Next, they have to split some logs. This is used for the fire in the kiln, which is used to heat the metal. Next, they must strike it with hammers while hot and then use a file to make it round. Once it has been welded, it should be the perfect shape. Misty, Tracey and Sakura are proud of how it has turned out, but Kinso is not satisfied. The next day, they must do it all over again!

This time they do better, and are allowed to (lightly) paint the Badge blue. However, they aren't finished yet. While they dry, Kinso sends them on one more lap around the mountain. One coat of polish later, and they are finished. Kinso compliments them, but there is still one more step: If Misty can put up a good fight against his Feraligatr, she can keep the Badges. Misty is perfectly happy to do this and calls Misty out. Unfortunately, it is Psyduck who comes out. With one look at Feraligatr, Psyduck runs, slips, and falls into a lake. Kinso is shocked that she has a Water Pokémon who cannot swim, and refuses to give her the Badges.

They immediately return to teaching Psyduck to swim, but Psyduck just screams and runs off again. Kinso opens the door of his cabin and screams something about a robbery before Psyduck runs right into him. Once he has recovered, Kinso tells them that someone has broken in and stolen all the Badges. Kinso explains that there are hooligans who roam around the countryside stealing Gym Badges so they don't have to work hard to get them. Sometimes, they sell them to make money. Sakura sends out her Beautifly, which Tracey immediately makes a sketch of. She sends Beautifly to search for the thieves. Beautifly soon spots someone, and Kinso tells them that it is where the main road is.

The scene changes to a hand with a number of Cascade Badges in it. The two thieves are gloating at how easy their way of obtaining Badges is. Just then, Espeon jumps in front of them and is joined by Misty, Tracey, Sakura and Kinso. The thieves refuse to hand over the Badges, instead sending out a Zigzagoon and Poochyena. Tracey sketches them as well, while Espeon uses a Tackle attack on Poochyena. Zigzagoon uses Headbutt, which misses. Misty orders Psyduck to use Scratch, but it just swipes the air and spins around dizzily. Espeon uses Swift, which Poochyena dodges before using Tackle and Bite on Psyduck. This gives Psyduck a headache, allowing it to use Psychic attacks. Misty orders Disable and Confusion, sending the Pokémon and their Trainers into a tree. The thieves repent their ways and return the Badges before running off.

Back at the cabin, Kinso compliments Psyduck's abilities. He tells Misty that she has passed, and hands over the Badges. Misty is pleased that she can accept challenges at the Gym, and accepts Sakura as the first challenger.

Back at the Gym, it's Espeon against Corsola. Espeon starts off with Tackle, which hits Corsola hard. Corsola attacks back with Spike Cannon, which Espeon dodges by jumping into the water. Misty is amazed at how Espeon can swim, and tells Psyduck that it could really learn something. Espeon jumps out with a Swift attack, hitting Corsola hard. Corsola uses Recover and hits Espeon with a Tackle. Espeon jumps off the wall, and dodges the Spike Cannon that Corsola is now sending at it. Espeon uses Tackle, followed by Psybeam, knocking out Corsola. Sakura is the winner.

Misty is amazed at how good Sakura has become, and gladly gives her a Cascade Badge. Tracey is also impressed by how well Misty has improved, and Sakura gives Misty the Badge that she made. Tracey invites Sakura to visit Professor Oak, and so they both head off while Misty waves, feeling ready to take on any challenger.
Trivia
* This episode aired between AG013 and AG014 in Japan.
* Misty reads the title card of this episode.
* When Misty is introducing Tracey to Sakura, she says that Tracey "has been assisting Professor Oak for the last few years". This would indicate that this episode's events happen a few years after the events of the second season.
* Sakura mentions an un-named tournament she's been wanting to enter that requires eight Gym Badges. The three she already has are from the Johto League, while the Cerulean Gym is of the Indigo League, suggesting this tournament accepts badges from any region for qualification.
* Sakura also has a Beautifly, which suggests she's also visited Hoenn. This would mean she's traveled to three separate regions in the course of her Pokémon journey.
* The English title is a pun on the American Civil War novel The Red Badge of Courage, as well as the Japanese name of the Cascade, "Blue Badge".
* The bottles of food that Misty uses to feed the Pokémon have symbols of Water Energy from the Trading Card Game. In the previous Chronicles episode, Tracey fed the Pokémon at Professor Oak's Laboratory using food labeled in the same manner.

Errors
* In HS02, the Cerulean Gym is awarded a pass by Inspector Joy of the Pokémon Inspection Agency. Despite this, it is only until this episode that Misty discovers the gym has no badges left to award.
* When Misty is about to battle Kinso, she starts to call out her Misty but she is holding a normal Poké Ball, not the Lure Ball her Corsola was caught in.
** It is possible that she simply picked the wrong Poké Ball because her Psyduck interrupted before she could release her Pokémon.
* When Misty explains who Tracey is to Sakura, she says she and Ash met him while they were "on Orange Island" instead of "in the Orange Islands".
* Misty uses Confusion on Poochyena, although Poochyena should be immune to Psychic moves due to being a Dark Pokémon.
* This episode shows how Badges are made, but not at any point is it shown them placing a pin or something that holds the Badge to enable Trainers to carry them on a jacket like Ash did.
* At the end in the English dub, the narrator refers to the Badges Misty earned from Kinso as medals.

Dub edits
* When Misty tells Tracey about Sakura, there is a flashback to Ecruteak City, which was removed from the dub.
* At the beginning of the second day in Rifure Village, a crowing sound of a rooster is added in the dub.
* The final 22-second scene, as shown in the original version, involving Misty unsuccessfully trying to teach Psyduck how to swim is cut from the dub.
* In the English dub, the "Hanada Gym" text was changed to "Cerulean Gym". The Japanese scribbles are also erased from the sign above the hallway entrance.
* In the original Japanese version, Sakura mentions that she evolved Beautifly from a Wurmple she caught. This was not mentioned in the English dub.

Blurb
<!--http://www.pokemon.com/us/pokemon-episodes/chronicles-08-showdown-at-the-oak-corral/-->
<i>At Professor Oak's lab, Tracey and the Professor are busy with their daily work. So busy that they don't even notice when a Team Rocket helicopter lands on the property—Butch and Cassidy are here, and they plan to steal all the stored Pokémon from the lab! While Ash's mom Delia stops by to say hello to Professor Oak, Butch and Cassidy put on Pokémon disguises and make their way toward the lab. The local Pokémon take an interest in these new visitors, thinking they're real Pokémon, but an Oddish realizes the newcomers are just people in costumes.

Oddish alerts Bulbasaur, who decides to take action. It grabs Tracey and sends Noctowl to scout the area for signs of the intruders. By the time Tracey realizes what's going on, Butch and Cassidy have already looted the Poké Balls from the lab and left the building. Now they're back in their Pokémon disguises and headed for the helicopter, but they're slowed down by a lovestruck Nidoking and an affectionate Muk.

In the meantime, Noctowl has led Tracey to Team Rocket's hidden helicopter, and Totodile has told Professor Oak and Delia about the emergency. All the Pokémon are on the lookout for the thieves, too! Our heroes all surprise Butch and Cassidy before they can get away, but the villains won't give up. They send out Hitmontop and Houndour, so Professor Oak calls on Bulbasaur for help. And when Tracey's Scyther and Delia's Mr. Mime join in, it spells defeat for Butch and Cassidy, who end up being blasted into the sky. Now the Poké Balls are safe and peace has been restored!</i>

Plot
Professor Oak and Tracey are so busy looking after Pokémon that they don't notice when a helicopter lands near the laboratory. In fact, Noctowl is the only one that does notice it. Butch and Cassidy step out their aircraft, covering it with a camouflage blanket and branches so to go unnoticed. After locating the lab, they discuss their plan: almost every Trainer who starts their journey in Pallet Town stores their extra Poké Balls there, so they are going to sneak in and steal them all. As Tracey and Professor Oak are the only people around, it shouldn't be very hard.

As Tracey returns from feeding the Pokémon, he hears the doorbell and goes to see who it is. It is the Magikarp salesman, who immediately tries to sell Tracey the Magikarp he has. He tells Tracey that the Magikarp lays golden eggs, making Tracey very suspicious. Professor Oak comes over to see what is going on, and becomes angry when he hears that the salesman is selling Pokémon. Tracey tells him that this is a Pokémon laboratory, and the salesman makes a hasty exit. Professor Oak says that Pokémon should not be bought and sold. Tracey says they should report him to Officer Jenny, and then the doorbell rings again. Tracey, mistakenly believing that the Magikarp salesman has returned, says he will teach him a lesson, and starts to open the door harshly, only to realize his mistake when he sees that it is Delia and Mimey. Delia is stunned, admitting that she had brought some cookies. Tracey says that now was a great time for a break and invites Delia inside.

Elsewhere, Bulbasaur is enjoying a walk through the ranch. It smiles upon seeing a Jumpluff and Skiploom getting along. Bulbasaur notices an odd-looking Golem and Nidoqueen, which are actually Butch and Cassidy in disguise. Totodile also notices them, then dances and douses the pair with a Water Gun. Butch kicks it away in frustration, but Totodile retaliates with a more powerful Water Gun. Butch reflects it with a tool on hand, sending Totodile backwards. Butch and Cassidy take a moment to dry themselves. An Oddish notices the half-human, half-Pokémon things, and runs off to tell Bulbasaur. However, by the time the two get there, Butch and Cassidy have already set off again. Cassidy stands on Cyndaquil, who was taking a nap, and it sends up a huge fire in defense. Butch uses a fire extinguisher on it, and the two leave, just as Bulbasaur and Oddish catch up to Cyndaquil.

Back at the lab, Delia asks Professor Oak if he has heard from Ash. Oak tells her that he has just reached Petalburg City. Delia comments that she loves Petalburg City, and that she hopes Ash captures a Zigzagoon. At this moment, Bulbasaur gets her attention by tapping on the window. Oak tells Delia that he is busy, so she informs Bulbasaur that the Professor is unavailable. Bulbasaur wakes up Noctowl, and Noctowl flies off to search. Bulbasaur rushes over to Tracey for help, and forcefully pulls him away from feeding the Jumpluff.

Bulbasaur is right to rush, as Butch and Cassidy have now reached the lab, though not before being noticed by Noctowl. As Butch cuts a hole in the window, he comments that Giovanni will be so pleased that they will get a major promotion. Cassidy reaches through the hole to unlatch the window, and they enter the lab. They comment on how much better they are than "Messy" and "Lames", which they find so funny that they laugh manically. Remembering where they are, they shut up and start looking around. Butch and Cassidy soon sneak into the Poké Ball room, which has no security alarms surprisingly. Meanwhile, Noctowl guides Tracey and the others over to the damaged window. He immediately rushes over to Professor Oak to tell him that someone has broken in. They search the lab until they reach the Poké Ball room, where they are shocked to see that all the Poké Balls are gone. Tracey says that whoever did this must be professionals. Professor Oak says that it must be Team Rocket's work, but Tracey doubts this as the TRT he knows couldn't pull it off without messing something up.

The Pokémon begin to spread the word. Bayleef tells Heracross. Bulbasaur tells the Skiploom and Jumpluff, who tell the Oddish and Bellossom, who tell Kingler, who tells four of the Tauros, who stampede to wake up Snorlax. As all the Pokémon search, Butch and Cassidy make their escape in their costumes, with the Poké Balls inside a container covered by a Muk cloak. However, a Nidoking spots them and tries to hug Cassidy. When they manage to lose that, Muk turns up and smothers the Poké Balls. Meanwhile, Noctowl locates the helicopter and rushes off to tell Tracey. Muk has now covered both Cassidy and Butch, who can't get up. Then Totodile turns up and uses another Water Gun. It jumps aside from the reflector, and uses another one to knock Butch into a tree. They take this chance to run off, which makes Muk sad, but Totodile happily runs off in the opposite direction.

Bulbasaur uses its vines to uncover the sheet covering the helicopter while Totodile tells Delia and Professor Oak where Butch and Cassidy are. As all the Pokémon rush over to the spot, so do Butch and Cassidy. For a moment, they think they have made it, but then Tracey steps forward, barring the way. Professor Oak and Delia come in behind them, and tell them that they are completely surrounded. Tracey tells them to give up now, or they are in big trouble. Butch and Cassidy proceed to recite their motto. Tracey vaguely recalls the other Team Rocket. After Butch gets annoyed at Tracey and Delia for calling him "Biff" and "Bill" respectively, Professor Oak tells them that they can't steal Pokémon, as Pokémon must be earned. Butch and Cassidy refuse and send out Hitmontop and Houndour. Bulbasaur steps forward to battle, and Oak recognizes Bulbasaur as one of his oldest companions. Tracey sends out Tracey, while Delia sends Mimey forward.

Houndour starts off with Ember, which Mimey reflects with Light Screen. Hitmontop uses Rolling Kick, but it does nothing to the Light Screen. Next, Bulbasaur and Scyther attack Hitmontop with Vine Whip and Quick Attack respectively. While they are busy, Cassidy orders Houndour to use Bite on Mimey, but Mimey Double Slaps it back. Butch orders Hitmontop to use Rapid Spin on Bulbasaur, but Bulbasaur reflects it with another Vine Whip. Hitmontop slams into Butch and Cassidy and then gets hit by Scyther's Cut attack. After complimenting Scyther, Oak orders Cyndaquil to use Flamethrower, which engulfs Team Rocket. Bulbasaur immediately comes in with a Solar Beam which causes an explosion. While Cassidy contemplates that things are not good, Oak comments that Pokémon are sometimes inspirational. Totodile wants to join in, so it uses its strongest Water Gun of the day, making Butch and Cassidy blast off.

All the Poké Balls are accounted for. Oak comments that while the lab doesn't have an advanced security system, the Pokémon are all the protection that they will ever need. The humans thank the Pokémon and the Pokémon cheer. Later, Oak reads his completed love poem, which Delia felt for sure that it was about her, but then, so did Bulbasaur.
Trivia
* This episode aired between AG007 and AG008 in Japan.
** During this episode, Professor Oak mentions that Ash had called him from Petalburg City the previous day. Ash did this in AG003, which first aired a month before this episode.
* Tracey reads the title card.
* ElderShipping is made dub-canon in this episode when the narrator says, "Ms. Ketchum felt for sure that Professor Oak's love poem was for her."
* Andi Whaley takes over the role of Cassidy, who was previously voiced by Megan Hollingshead. Hollingshead moved to California after season seven to expand her voice acting career.
* The bottles of food that Tracey is using to feed the Pokémon have symbols of various Energy from the Trading Card Game. Tracey also comments that the foods contain the vitamins Carbos and Protein, which are found in the games.
* This episode's English dub title is a reference to the historical Gunfight at the O.K. Corral, the same source of the episode title Showdown at the Po-ké Corral.
* Music from The Power of One can be heard in this episode.
* Although it was left at Professor Oak's Laboratory, Ash's Phanpy is nowhere to be found.

Errors
* During the climactic battle, one of Ash's Tauros pictured in the background is incorrectly and entirely colored light-brown.
* When Mimey is using Light Screen on Hitmontop, the pink circle on its left cheek is missing.
* When Bulbasaur knocks on the window to draw attention, the left vine (which Bulbasaur uses to lean on the window, while knocking on upper part of the window with the other vine) changes position incorrectly when the scene changes to the outside view (being under, instead of leaning diagonally). The window is bivalve containing eight glass parts on each side. It should've been leaning on the left part diagonally instead.
* In the Latin American dub, Mr. Mime is called "Señor Mime". The same thing happens in The Scheme Team, Hail to the Chef!, and Short and To the Punch!

Dub edits
* The running gag of Professor Oak trying to find a word that rhymes with Tauros in order to create a love poem for Delia exists only in the English dub, and Professor Oak does not even attempt to write a poem in the original Japanese version.
* The dub has Butch refer to Jessie and James as "Messy and Lames", which were names used in the Mad Magazine parody of PTS in the late 1990s. This joke was also used in a later episode by a Chatot.
* The narrator's line at the end of the episode is different in the Japanese version, where he just says that all of the Poké Balls have been returned, and the daily peace the Pokémon enjoyed before Butch and Cassidy's attack has returned to Pallet Town.
* A somewhat lengthy scene was cut out in this episode. Between Cassidy saying "Shoo! Go! No! NO!" and her being thrown into the air, was Nidoking advancing at Cassidy (who was disguised as a Nidoqueen at the time), and while she is attempting to climb up a tree to evade him, he gets too close and she kicks him repeatedly in the chest. Nidoking, after regaining his senses, becomes enraged, tackles her, beats her up, grabs her, and throws her. The dub has Nidoking chasing her and then cuts to her flying in the air.
* In the English dub, when Delia brings Tracey and Professor Oak cookies, Tracey talks about it being a great time for cookies, and Professor Oak asks about Tauros rhymes. In the original Japanese version, Tracey tells them about the strange man who came to the door, and Professor Oak thanks her for bringing the cookies.
* In the English dub, Delia says that she hopes Ash catches Zigzagoon since it is a Pokémon she has always wanted to see. In the original Japanese version, she is glad that Ash made two new friends in May and Max.
* In the English dub, Professor Oak and Delia make dinner plans. In the original Japanese version, Professor Oak talks about Ash's journey so far in Hoenn, revealing that he hasn't caught any Pokémon yet. Delia wonders whether the Pokémon he will catch will be cute or strong.
Blurb
<!--https://www.pokemon.com/us/animation/seasons/6/episode-22-a-hole-lotta-trouble/-->
<i>After all the Wurmple confusion, Ash and the group finally arrive at Granite Cave. Team Rocket is already in the cave, perfecting their next attempt to capture Pikachu. Unknown to our heroes, Stephensic and his Aron are busy digging in the cave. Ash, May, Max, and Brock begin exploring the dark cave, only to fall into a hole created by Team Rocket. Before Jessie and James can brag about their success, the floor caves in and everyone falls into the hole. To make matters worse, though, everyone falls into different tunnels and they all get separated from one another. Pikachu, Meowth, and Max end up together; Jessie falls on top of May; and Ash, James, and Brock get stuck together.

As the various groups start wandering through the cave, James, Ash and Brock disturb a rather large group of irritable Aron. Meanwhile, Max, Meowth, and Pikachu have discovered an underground waterfall and pool with dangling vines they hope may lead to an escape from the cave. Everyone ends up meeting in the underground pool with the angered Aron on their tails. Stephen, sic already investigating the commotion, comes to the rescue and subdues all the Aron with his own Aron. Team Rocket then makes their usual attempt at stealing Pikachu, only to be sent blasting off again by Stephensic and his Aggron. Stephen'ssic Aron then finds the Fire Stone he had been looking for and everyone leaves the cave happy and ready for their next adventure.</i>

Plot
Standing in front of a large cave, Max announces that they have finally arrived at Granite Cave. Everyone anticipates meeting Steven Stone, and Ash hopes to gain some training insights. May asks Max to check the PokéNav for any creepy Pokémon living inside the cave, but Max informs her that the device doesn't have that function. Ash suggests they get moving, and so the group all enter Granite Cave. Meanwhile, TRT is digging large holes throughout Granite Cave hoping to finally catch Pikachu. James begins to complain from the exhaustive effort and suggests they try a direct battle for once, but Jessie declares that she is in charge and orders him to keep digging. MTR makes a sharp remark, but Jessie turns to him and snaps.

Ash and the others continue through the caverns, with Ash calling out to Steven every so often. They reach a fork in the road, where Brock puts a glow-in-the-dark red arrow marker pointing to the left tunnel on the wall. Meanwhile, Steven and his Aron stop to take a break from their stone hunt. When Aron informs him that it hasn't found anything by shaking its head, Steven offers it some Pokémon food, which it happily eats from his hand. Steven says they'll try a new spot. Meanwhile, Team Rocket sits behind some rocks observing their now-finished hole. Jessie hears Ash calling out to Steven and anticipates the group's arrival. James still thinks a direct battle is the way to go, while Meowth asks who Steven is. Jessie hisses that it doesn't matter who he is and they hide. Ash and friends soon reach the chamber, where they fall into the waiting pitfall trap. The Rocket trio reveal themselves and dance happily over their catch, however, the chamber begins to rumble. The ground suddenly gives way and everyone falls down into the depths of the caverns.

Down where Steven and Aron are working, the two hear all the commotion as the Rocket trio and Ash's group all get separated from each other and mixed into random groups as they fall into different tunnels. Hearing this, Steven and Aron quickly go to check it out. Max pops out of some dirt first, and he finds himself with Pikachu and Meowth. Max realizes they have been separated and he tells Pikachu that they have to find the others. Meowth offers to help, but Max doesn't trust him. However, they decide to make a truce. Max and Pikachu begin to walk off, but Meowth refuses to follow Pikachu. Max tells him that they can leave him there. Pikachu and Max walk away, but Meowth yells for them to return and rushes after them. Meanwhile, May pops out of another patch of dirt and complains about how dirty she is. Suddenly, Jessie falls down on top of her. They begin to argue when Jessie says she is going to try to get out. She stands up and tries to climb back up the hole, but it doesn't look too promising. In another part of the cave, Ash and James argue while standing shoulder-high in a pile of dirt. Brock soon interrupts them and says they should focus on finding an exit and they can fight later. They all begin to wriggle and squirm, but they can't break free of the silt. They take a breath and try again, but still no luck.

Max, Pikachu, and Meowth all continue down the trail. Max is set on finding Steven, and he explains to Meowth that Steven is the son of the president of the Devon Corporation who is supposedly training in Granite Cave. Pikachu suddenly smells something and Meowth motions that he also smells fresh air. He and Pikachu rush off as Max follows quickly behind them. Steven and his Aron walk through a crevasse hoping to find the source of the crash. Meanwhile, Ash, Brock, and James are on a different path. James soon begins to pout, saying it's useless and they'll be lost for the rest of their lives. He soon enters into a tirade, complaining that Jessie and Meowth always mistreat him. Suddenly, a small ball falls from the ceiling. It steps into the light to reveal itself to be an Aron. It begins growling and Ash scans it with the Pokédex. James is unafraid and promptly begins knuckling Aron's head, which only angers the wild Pokémon. The Aron calls out causing many Aron to fall from the ceiling. Ash, Brock, and James freak out and rush off at a rapid pace as the horde of Aron lunges toward them. Steven discovers Team Rocket's pitfall trap and a strewn net nearby. Fearing someone has been injured, Steven and his Aron leap into the underground abyss.

Ash, Brock, and James are still running for their lives. James notices two tunnels up ahead with another above them. He rushes towards them and begins to climb into the high one, but Ash and Brock push him down and climb up first. James turns around to see the fast-approaching Aron and rushes up screaming. The Aron horde continues on down one of the other paths. Max, Pikachu, and Meowth make it to a lush waterfall with vines streaming down in the middle of the cave. Meowth indicates that the fresh air is streaming in from up above, and so the trio set their sights on climbing up. Meanwhile, Jessie and May are having no luck. Jessie is still trying to squirm up the hole, but May just sits there. She tells Jessie to hurry, but Jessie orders May to assist. May attempts to follow instructions, but Jessie is truly wedged in despite all of the pushing and shoving. In a crack, the cave ceiling breaks open as a Loudred crashes through the floor above. Loudred stamps its feet, trampling Jessie in the process as it rushes off down a pass. Jessie collapses into the level below, though May is none the wiser and remarks that at least the escape hole is bigger.

Max, Pikachu, and Meowth are scaling the winding vines. As Max begins to complain, Meowth stops to take a break admitting that all the whining reminds him of Jessie and James. Max queries Meowth on how he can talking, but as Meowth recounts his tale, Max and Pikachu ignore it and continue climbing. A pebble hits Meowth and he realizes they are leaving without him. Meowth shouts that he is feeling disrespected, but Max retorts that the story was too long and orders him to get going. As Ash and the others trudge on, they feel a glimmer of hope when they suddenly come across one of Brock's red arrow stickers. However, the trio's excitement is short-lived when they once again fall down the same pitfall from earlier. Steven and Aron arrive soon after to see that the hole has grown larger.

Later Max, Pikachu, and Meowth spot daylight pouring through a canyon opening. Pikachu alerts them to a scent, and Max hopes that it is Steven. Jessie and May are now exhausted as they walk down the path. May suddenly notices the light at the end of the tunnel. As the pair rush towards it, they fall into the earlier pitfall. As Ash, Brock, and James are chased by the Aron horde again, Jessie and May land onto them and are forced to also run from the angry Aron. Pikachu's sense of smell leads directly to Steven, who quickly confirms his identity. Max explains that his friends are lost, and Steven replies that this must be why the Aron are particularly agitated. He warns that they must find everyone quickly and he leads Max, Meowth, and Pikachu through Granite Cave at a cracking pace. He leads them to a crack in the cave floor, though Meowth doesn't understand. Steven suggests they try listening carefully, and soon enough Meowth and Max overhear footsteps coming closer. Max calls out for his sister and the others, and the fleeing humans look up to see Steven and Max standing on the floor above. Steven orders Ash and the others to meet him at the waterfall, but the exchange is cut short as the Aron continue to approach. Steven has Max and the Pokémon grab onto him before he leaps over the opening. Ash and the others make it to the waterfall and turn to see the Aron horde approaching. Steven appears above them and tells them to just stay put. The Aron horde gets very close and everyone braces themselves for the worst. However, Steven has his Aron use Roar to stop the horde in their tracks. Steven orders the Aron to return to their roosts, assuring them that the humans are all friendly. The Aron follow instructions and retreat into the Granite Cave depths.

Meowth leaps into Jessie and James's waiting arms, happily reunited. To celebrate, the Rocket trio recites their motto, though Steven is left perplexed. Jessie calls out her Jessie and James sends out James, but it gives him a prickly hug first. As Ash and his friends prepare to send their Pokémon out, Steven tells them to stop. He scolds them for disrupting the peace of the wild Pokémon and declares that he'll face Team Rocket. Steven calls on his Aggron and it blasts Team Rocket off with a single Hyper Beam. The powerful display leaves Ash in awe of Steven.

Suddenly, Aron motions to Steven that it found something. Steven rushes over and pulls out a Fire Stone from the ground. Ash and friends are impressed by the find and Steven explains that he's been digging for days looking for one. May is curious about the stone's value and Steven explains that it can help evolve certain Pokémon like Growlithe or Eevee. Afterward, Steven leads the group to a secluded inlet just perfect for Ash's preparation for his rematch against Brawly. Steven and his Aron soon set off in their sailboat to continue hunting for other Evolution stones. They thank Steven for his help as he wishes the group luck for the future. He sets off as Ash and his friends wave goodbye, watching as Steven sails into the sunset.
Trivia
* The English title for this episode is a pun of the phrase "a whole lot of trouble."
* At the start of the episode, Max tells May that the PokéNav doesn't tell you what Pokémon are in the area. In Omega Ruby and Alpha Sapphire, the PokéNav Plus would have such a feature in the DexNav.
* Vigoroth is the first Generation III Pokémon featured in the Who's That Pokémon? eyecatch.
* This is the first animated series appearance of Steven Stone. In this episode, he is not mentioned to be the Champion, instead being a strong Trainer.
** Steven did not appear again in the animated series until Mega Evolution Special II, 11 years later.
* When Max asks MTR how he is able to talking, the latter starts going through his backstory from Go West Young Meowth, including flashing back to his former love interest from the same episode.
** Although the animated series switched to digital animation in Here's Lookin' at You, Elekid, the flashback of Meowth meeting Meowzie still uses hand-colored Traditional animation.
* In the France dub of this episode, Steven is referred to by his English name rather than his French name, Pierre, due to the fact that this name is shared with Brock. The dub would eventually go back to using his French name during his appearances in Pokémon the Series: XY, due to Brock being absent from that series.

Errors
* The blurb for this episode spells Steven's name as Stephen.
* A Loudred uses Dig, a move that it cannot legally learn.
* Vigoroth's image for the Who's That Pokémon? eyecatch has its footprint included in the space between its left arm and its left leg.
* In a couple of scenes, Aggron's nostrils are missing.
* Even though James caused the Aron's agitation and Ash used his Pokédex in front of James, in a later scene when they come across the group of Aron again, James says "Help! What's that?"

Dub edits
* In the original Japanese version, Brock and Ash step on James's head to get leverage. The English dub uses impact stars instead.
* When May pushes Jessie up to get through the hole and when Steven brings out Aggron, the English dub lengthens Jessie's skirt.
Blurb
<!--https://www.pokemon.com/us/animation/seasons/3/episode-29-a-farfetchd-tale-->
<i>An inexperienced young Trainer mistakenly scares off his own Farfetch'd. Ash and friends are happy to help, but will have to find it before Team Rocket, their stomachs as empty as their piggy bank, can get their hands on this savory Pokémon.</i>

Plot
Brock, with a map in hand, guides Ash and Misty through the Ilex Forest. The group soon comes across a boy commanding his Farfetch'd to use "cutting attack", but Farfetch'd disregards its Trainer completely. Ash steps in and informs the boy that "Cut attack" is the correct name. The embarrassed boy then tells Farfetch'd to use "Cut", but even so, Farfetch'd refuses to obey. The boy, who introduces himself as Sylvester, explains that he is a beginning Trainer and sometimes has trouble remembering the names of attacks. He wants to be able to make "purifying charcoal" like his father does. Brock explains to Ash and Misty that purifying charcoal is Charcoal that can also purify water and air. The Ilex Forest is world-famous for its purified charcoal; in fact, Brock even uses it for a recipe he calls "Brock's Rockin' Rice". Sylvester says that he needs to teach Farfetch'd how to cut wood into perfect blocks. Farfetch'd, however, doesn't look happy to be working with Sylvester. It appears to think very little of its Trainer. Ash can empathize with Sylvester and admits that he and Pikachu initially struggled to work together before they became best friends. Sylvester and Farfetch'd are persuaded by Ash's words to try again.

At the local Pokémon Center, Ash reports to Professor Oak that he has safely delivered the GS Ball to Kurt in Azalea Town. Ash also tells Oak of his Lure Ball, which he received from Kurt as a gift, and his Hive, which he won from Bugsy, the Gym Leader. Ash's Muk, Kingler, Snorlax, and Tauros squeeze into the screen to wish Ash luck and the video call ends. Ash then sits down with his friends and learns that Goldenrod City is the location of the next Gym. Suddenly, Sylvester runs into the Center and asks Nurse Joy if she has seen his Farfetch'd; apparently, it has run away after Sylvester forgot a few attack names again. Nurse Joy suggests looking for Farfetch'd at his father's house, since Farfetch'd went there the previous time it ran away. Ash cheers up the despondent Sylvester by volunteering to accompany him to his house, and to search the forest if Farfetch'd cannot be found there.

At Sylvester's house, his father Yosaku works alongside his Magmar at a hearth to make purifying charcoal. Yosaku receives the news that Farfetch'd has run away again and begins berating his son for being such a bad Trainer. Ash, feeling sorry for Sylvester, steps in and tells Yosaku that his son is trying his best and should not be pushed so hard. Sylvester's father is not impressed; he orders his son and his new friends out into the forest to look for Farfetch'd. Meanwhile, as TRT continues to trudge through the forest, MTR suddenly smells food and leads his teammates to a forest shrine with some offerings. Jessie and Meowth eat the buns before James can get a bite. Then, Farfetch'd walks out from behind a bush, unaware of Team Rocket. The trio corners the valuable Pokémon and decides to capture and sell it, using the money to buy lots of food.

Elsewhere, Ash and the others soon reach the shrine, dedicated to the Celebi, and try to call out to Farfetch'd, to no avail. They decide to use all of their Pokémon, minus Misty's Goldeen and Misty, to search for Farfetch'd. Brock, however, is forced to recall his Brock before it Self-Destructs. Though Sylvester is concerned by Ash's Pokémon who seem to be too preoccupied to help with the search. Just as Misty is about to scold Ash for his misbehaving Pokémon, she spots her Misty fast asleep on Misty's tail. The Pokémon manage to organize themselves and the group agrees to meet back at the shrine within the next hour before splitting off to search for Farfetch'd.

Meanwhile, Farfetch'd momentarily evades Team Rocket by flying up on a tree branch, cutting several smaller branches with its leek, and causing them to fall on Team Rocket's heads. Jessie tosses Meowth upwards in frustration, but Farfetch'd easily hits him on the head, sending Meowth back down on Jessie's own head. Jessie then sends out her Jessie and Jessie; Farfetch'd blocks Arbok's Poison Sting with its leek. Arbok dives for the leek, but misses. Finally, Lickitung uses its giant tongue to grab the leek before Jessie snatches the leek from it. Without its leek, Farfetch'd tries to run away, but Meowth captures it with a lasso. With Farfetch'd now secured in a net, James tries to eat the leek, but Jessie swipes it away and Meowth reminds him that the leek will make Farfetch'd complete, meaning more money could be made.

Heracross spots Team Rocket with Farfetch'd and reports back to Ash. Having been discovered, Team Rocket performs their motto for Ash and Sylvester. Jessie sends out Arbok and Lickitung while Meowth kicks at Sylvester, allowing the trio to make a run for it. However, Bulbasaur and Chikorita use Razor Leaf to cut the bag, freeing Farfetch'd. Before it can fly back to Sylvester, though, Farfetch'd is grabbed by Lickitung. James sends out his James and James, and orders the former to fire Sludge at Ash and his Pokémon, immobilizing them. As Arbok's Poison Sting heads straight for the helpless group, Brock's Onix erupts out of the ground and blocks the attack. Brock and Misty hurry towards them with their Pokémon, and Misty has Poliwag wash away the Sludge attack with its Water Gun. Weezing and Victreebel then use Smokescreen and Razor Leaf respectively, but Ash orders Squirtle to use Hydro Pump to blow away Weezing's smoke. While Ash's Pokémon attack together, Sylvester expresses his wish to work with Farfetch'd the way Ash works with his Pokémon. Brock explains that Ash's team acts with one mind. Heracross Tackles Team Rocket, sending the leek spinning up in the air. Jessie and Sylvester both dive for it, and Sylvester grabs it. This causes Farfetch'd to realize that he isn't such a bad Trainer after all. Sylvester promptly throws the leek to Farfetch'd, who goes onto free itself from Lickitung's grasp with a powerful Peck. In a last-ditch attempt, Team Rocket dives toward Farfetch'd, but Sylvester orders Farfetch'd to use Fury Attack, which leaves Team Rocket completely worn out. Before they can run far, Farfetch'd uses Cut to down two big trees in front of Team Rocket's path. Then, Ash has Pikachu use Thunderbolt, sending Team Rocket blasting off.

Ash congratulates Sylvester for getting Farfetch'd to use Cut, and Misty and Brock comment on how well the pair worked as a team. Encouraged by Ash and the gang, Sylvester asks Farfetch'd to cut one of the trees into blocks for charcoal. After pausing to orient itself, like a true Cutting master, Farfetch'd executes a series of slashes, creating several perfectly-shaped blocks of wood. Later, Sylvester's father admits that he is proud of his son's growth. Yosaku also gives Ash and his friends some charcoal as a show of his gratitude. The group says their goodbyes before setting off for Goldenrod City.
Trivia
* The plot of this episode, focused around recovering a lost Farfetch'd in Ilex Forest for a charcoal maker's son, appears to be based around a similar event in the games. Both also feature the move Cut.
* In the Japanese version, Sylvester tells Farfetch'd to use 居合い抜き (iainuki) instead of the correct いあいぎり (iaigiri). The former is the Japanese term for quickly drawing one's sword, slashing, and then sheathing the sword, on which the move name いあいぎり is based.
* This is the last time in the animated series that the GS Ball is mentioned, other than its appearance in a flashback in No Big Woop!. The producers planned to have it return, but they abandoned that plotline in favor of the fourth movie and shelved the idea.
* In the Pokémon Center scene, Brock is using a map of Johto that is accurate to the games and includes red dots for the non-city landmarks, and he correctly points to Goldenrod City's location. The square indicating Violet City is missing, however.
* When Misty lets her Pokémon out, Misty and Misty are omitted, and only Misty and Misty appear.
** This may be simply because she often does not use her Water Pokémon that have trouble functioning on land, such as Goldeen.
* This is the last time that Ash and his friends battle Jessie's Lickitung.

Errors
* During the battle with TRT, Ash says, "Use your Razor Leaf attack together!" He was probably directing the command to Bulbasaur and Chikorita, but his Pokémon don't appear to follow the order; Chikorita uses Razor Leaf, but Bulbasaur uses Vine Whip and Cyndaquil (who isn't even capable of using Razor Leaf) uses Flamethrower.
* While battling against Team Rocket, Sylvester commands Farfetch'd to use "Fury" instead of Fury Attack.

Dub edits
* Pokémon Karaokémon: All We Wanna Do
* Yosaku is Sylvester's father in the dub, while he is actually Sylvester's master in the original.
* In the dub, the two dumplings on the Celebi's shrine are referred to as "butter rolls without the butter".
