Serebii.net Special characters
Why shouldn't we externally link to Serebii.net for Special characters? The only entries listed were in Japanese, so I thought that since the vast majority of our readers are only fluent in English, they should be able to read a more complete bio on each character. Hypo Prower 01:23, 1 February 2009 (UTC)
:because we are Bulbapedia, not Serebii. now, im going to go remove those Japanese links that someone put there that arent supposed to be there. -- <span style="color:#000033;">MAG</span><span style="color:#696969;">NE</span><span style="color:#000033;">DETH</span> 01:24, 1 February 2009 (UTC)
::That doesn't make any sense. Every external link listed should be a different website. I mean, would we not put TRsRockin.com on the TRsRockin.com article just because it's a different fan site? I just don't see what's wrong with having a link to a more complete bio than what's even on Bulbapedia itself. Platina Berlitz (Japanese: プラチナ・ベルリッツ Platina Berlitz), is the female main character for the Pokémon Diamond, Pearl & Platinum story arc of Special. At first, she was only known by her family name as her given name matches the third version of the fourth generation games; Platinum.

Platina is a member of the house of Berlitz, a 200-year old family of wealthy scholars famous in Sinnoh. She wears diamond and pearl rings. She does not give her name to commoners, instead insisting that they refer to her as Ojōsama (Japanese: お嬢様), a term used to refer to the daughter of someone of high class.

The Berlitz family tradition is for members coming of age to travel to the peak of Mt. Coronet to obtain materials to make their personal family crest. At the suggestion of the Platina's butler, Sebastian, her father hired two bodyguards to protect her in her journey. Professor Rowan provided her with three Pokédexes, three Pokétches, and the three Sinnoh starter Pokémon so that Platina would share them with her bodyguards to assist him in his research.

However, because Diamond and Pearl coincidentally match the bodyguards' description--one in a red scarf and the other in a green scarf--Platina presumes they are her bodyguards instead, and the duo think that this journey is a sort of reality TV show. Platina assumed that they were actually her bodyguards, chosen so the trio would not seem odd.

Platina is amazed by the closeness of Pearl and Diamond, as well as their various skills: Pearl's assortment of battling advice and Diamond's ability to cook Poffins and instincts on Pokémon. She also is an audience for their various Manzai attempts and is amused by them at times. Platina often can be demanding of Pearl, annoying him. Platina is also unaware of a CommonerShipping Diamond has on her.

Platina is very knowledgeable as a result of reading lots of books during her childhood. However, since beginning her journey she has decided that it is better to actually experience as much as possible. For this reason, Platina challenges the Gyms of Sinnoh and also takes on other challenges such as the Super Contests of Hearthome City. She has shown a natural tendency to recognize patterns and has an almost encyclopedic knowledge of various areas of Sinnoh and Pokémon in general, although towards the beginning of her journey, she had difficulty dealing with wild Pokémon.

It seems, that after saving her from Team Galactic, Platina gains respect for Diamond and Pearl, by calling them by their first names, but, she still refuses to give her name. The boys assume her name is "The Lady", hearing it from Pearl's Chatot, who repeated it from a conversation between Platina and her butler.
*Empoleon: Easily Platina's strongest Pokémon. Used in practically everything Platina has thus far challenged.
*Rapidash: Possibly Platina's first Pokémon. Mainly used for transportation. A fairly weak battler when used.
*Lopunny: Platina captured this Pokémon on the way from Canalave City to Lake Acuity. It was first used to battle Candice.

Temporary
* Platina has borrowed most of Diamond and Pearl's Pokémon so far to battle various Gym Leaders: Monferno and Chatot for Maylene, Torterra for Crasher Wake and Munchlax for Fantina.

Trivia
*In the beginning of the Diamond & Pearl chapter of Pokémon Special, there were some moments where Platina's first name was actually said, but her first name was always covered by another's speech bubble (to show that it's drowned out by that person's speech). For example, when facing the gym leader Maylene, she is announced as the challenger, but yells when her name is said, so that her first name is unheard. The writers were most likely waiting for the release of Platinum to name her for it.
Diamond (Japanese: ダイヤモンド Diamond) is one of the male main characters for the Pokémon Diamond and Pearl story arc of Pokémon Special.

He is the funny man (boke) of the comedy duo, with Pearl as the straight man; however he is not as stupid as he looks. His appearance is based off of the male player character of Diamond and Pearl, Lucas. He is usually called Dia, but whenever Pearl is serious, he will call him by Diamond, his full name.

Diamond is often apathetic and rarely not seen eating, traits that he shares with his Pokémon. He is, while not fat, much less active or athletic when compared to Pearl. However, he is always serious when it comes to food and is an expert Poffin maker. Whenever something doesn't make sense to him, he'll try and figure out. Diamond has a somewhat natural instinct to judge how a Pokémon feels and can be quite observant when something perks his interest.

A mix-up has them thinking they will gain a prize for escorting Platina to Mt. Coronet. Platina, mistaking them for her bodyguards, has given them Pokédexes, Pokétches, and starter Pokémon from Professor Rowan. Eventually, they are told the truth by Platina's real bodyguards, although Diamond knew long before Pearl that Platina wasn't a tour guide. He figured this out from various clues such as the fancy hotels, and Platina not actually acting like a tour guide.

Diamond has a large amount of respect for Pearl; the two are as close as brothers. Diamond also has a not-so-small CommonerShipping on Platina.

However, Diamond has changed a lot from the beginning of his journey. He was convinced by Pearl to set aside their dream of becoming great comedians to protect Platina until she finishes her journey after the incident in Veilstone City.
Emerald (Japanese: エメラルド Emerald) is the eleventh main character of the manga series Pokémon Special. His origin is unknown, although Latios and Latias are very close to him, calling him "Rald".

He first appeared in the Battle Frontier, having been brought there by Latios and Latias. There he met Todd. After he bound and gagged Tucker and stole his Salamence, Emerald was about to be banned from the Frontier, until it was revealed that Emerald was attracting media attention. Upon the risk of losing major publicity, the Frontier Brains and Scott eventually agreed to his challenge: he would defeat all of the seven Brains within seven days.

Emerald seems to have an issue with his own height, as he wears his hair tall, clothing with extra long sleeves, and platform shoes. Much of his clothing appears to be intended to make him look taller than he really is. Even despite this, Emerald is much shorter than he already appears, as revealed by Greta and Todd while he is sleeping.

Emerald doesn't like Pokémon themselves, but he likes Pokémon battles. To the amazement of Todd, he is an expert at battling. As he does not train his own Pokémon, he borrows the Pokémon he uses from Crystal.

Later on, Emerald's reason for visiting the Frontier is revealed: he was assigned by Professor Oak and Crystal to capture Jirachi. He attempted first time after his fight with Brandon at the Battle Pyramid and was almost successful. However, after that, he went back to his original challenge.

Despite his protests, his Pokémon love him greatly and tend to get jealous of each other; recently, his Sudowoodo (revealed to be female because of its motherly nature) and Sceptile got into an argument over Emerald's food and began cooking with berries in a frenzy before being broken up by Emerald's Dusclops. His Sceptile's interest in Emerald's Pokédex indicated that it evolved from Wally's Grovyle. This was later confirmed.

Emerald carries several gadgets with him, primarily his extendable mechanical hands. He also has a pistol that shoots soil from various places around the world. By shooting a Pokémon with a "seal" of soil from its birthplace, the Pokémon is calmed by a sense of nostalgia.

Emerald has the ability to determine the birthplace of any Pokémon by sight. He uses this ability along with his gun to calm rampaging Pokémon that have been illegally added to the Battle Frontier, and has taken three of these cured Pokémon as his own.

It was later revealed that he was one of the orphans that Crys was helping. He looked up to her and wanted a Pokédex of his own, Professor Oak did want to offer it to him at one point but declined due to his animosity towards Pokémon while in the Pokémon Academy. He spent his time roaming around Hoenn and met the Trick Master, who gave him the gadgets that were inspired by a faraway land. He also found a green gem that was used as a test to call out Rayquaza but Emerald found the gem and it got attached to his forehead.

Pokémon
This has been updated from the most recent chapter of the Battle Frontier Saga.

* Sceptile
Sceptile, as a Treecko, was supposed to be Emerald's starter; however, the day he was going to receive it was the Groudon and Kyogre catastrophe. Emerald arrived just seconds after Professor Birch lost Treecko's Poké Ball in the waves. Treecko was eventually found by Wally, and helped him to climb the Sky Pillar to awaken Rayquaza. While climbing, it evolved into Grovyle. When they reached the top, Rayquaza's power sent Grovyle flying out of the pillar, and it got lost again. After that, he became a rental Pokémon in the Battle Factory. He went berserk and Emerald calmed it down, then he used it in the battle against Noland. After defeating Noland, Emerald took it. It was later proved that this Sceptile was the same lost Treecko when Ruby and Sapphire went to the Battle Frontier and their starters, Zuzu and Toro, recognized Sceptile.
* Sudowoodo
Sudowoodo went crazy and attacked Todd Snap but was calmed by Emerald. After this incident, Sudowoodo followed Emerald.
* Dusclops
This was a wild Pokémon in the Battle Pike. Emerald determined that it was from Mt. Pyre. Like Sudowoodo, it followed him after the incident.
* Snorlax/Mr. Mime/Mantine
These Pokémon were initially loaned to Emerald by Noland while his Pokémon were in their match against Spenser's Pokémon, though he later decided to add all three to his team.
Trivia
*Emerald is the only character named after a third version in Pokémon Special that is male, as Blue, Yellow, Crystal, and Platina are all female.
*Emerald and Yellow are the only main characters of Pokémon Special not directly based on game characters, coincidentally named for third versions of odd-numbered generations. Yellow is, however, the 4th game of Generation I in Japan, with Blue being the third.
*Sudowoodo Snorlax Mantine Mr. Mime Emerald are also owned by other trainers in Pokémon Special, notably, they all received baby forms in Generation IV.
**All of the Pokémon listed also meet their counterparts at the end of the Emerald Arc. They all become acquainted and are seen lounging with each other.
* The Trick Master says his Soil Gun was based on a device he saw in a far away land. He's probably talking about a Capture Styler, which also calms Pokémon with circles.
Sapphire Birch (Japanese: オダマキ　サファイア Sapphire Odamaki) is the ninth main character of the manga series Special. Her first two Pokémon are a Torchic and an Aron; she probably got them from her father, Professor Birch.

Sapphire loves to battle and is a tomboy; she has been seen swinging on vines through trees in an outfit made of leaves. However, she does have a feminine side, as she explains to Ruby in volume 19. She is FranticShipping with Ruby, yet, even after they both confess their feelings, she becomes annoyed at Ruby constantly avoiding the matter.

Sapphire made a challenge with Ruby when they met - they would both travel through the Hoenn region and meet again in 80 days to see if she could defeat all the Gyms, and if he could win every Contest within that time. However, their challenge was delayed when they teamed up to stop the rampaging Kyogre and Groudon, who had been awakened by Team Magma and Team Aqua's actions, and ended up with only a day to beat the final Gym and Contest. Both of them succeeded in winning their final frontiers.
*Like her May, she is the only female rival in the Pokémon Special manga.
*She is the only female Pokémon Special character named after a generation's second version (Green, Silver, and Pearl are all male).
* Sapphire is the only rival whose starter's type is disadvantaged against that of her own rival (her Torchic vs Ruby's Mudkip). However, unlike other rivals in Special, which were all based off of in-game rivals, Sapphire's game basis is also a player character.
* Sapphire is the only character to successfully earn every gym badge in her native region. Red and Platina challenge or challenged Gyms as well, however, although Red defeated every Gym Leader in Kanto he didn't earn every badge, and Platina has yet to finish her journey. Silver simply stole every Gym Badge from Johto at one point, but he didn't earn them through challenges.
*Sapphire's birthday is September 20.
*Sapphire's bloodtype is O.
*All of Sapphire's's Pokémon mirror her gender, with the exception of Toro & Minun. The same goes for Ruby (with the exception of having also owned a Celebi), with only his Swampert and Plusle the same gender as him.
Ruby (Japanese: ルビー Ruby) is the eighth main character of the manga series Pokémon Special. As a counterpart to Sapphire, Ruby has a great passion for Pokémon Contests. While he's an excellent battler, he only fights when necessary and when no one's looking. He believes that Pokémon battles are barbaric, and get his Pokémon dirty&mdash;something that he hates.

Ruby's extremely good at sewing and knitting. He makes clothes for all his Pokémon to wear, and even made Sapphire the clothes she wears for much of her adventures. His other hobby is photography. He has a photo album of all of his Pokémon's biggest moments - such as evolutions or contest victories. He's not shy about showing it off, either.

Ruby can be quite shallow at times, putting too much emphasis on outward appearances. He even once kicked Mimi out of his party for not being beautiful enough. Recently, however, Mimi returned to Ruby and, after being mocked by Archie for being weak and ugly, Ruby declared that Mimi had inner beauty and it evolved into a Milotic.

His first Pokémon were a Skitty, Poochyena, and Ralts, all given by his father Norman; his "starter" Pokémon was a Mudkip which he received from Professor Birch.

Ruby has admitted to have a FranticShipping on his rival Sapphire.

Ruby's journey
Ruby once lived in Goldenrod City, Johto. Ruby's family moved to Hoenn in volume 15, against his will as he felt that he preferred the modern cities of Johto to the wilderness and countryside in Hoenn. Ruby enjoys participating in Contests, and wound up running away from his new home in Littleroot Town because he felt that he was being oppressed by his father, Norman, who didn't approve of Ruby's lifestyle choice of being a Pokémon Coordinator to win all the Contests. Ruby despises Pokémon battles and refuses to battle unless he has no other choice, though as a child he adored battling.

As a child, he met Sapphire once, and the young Ruby and Sapphire had a lot of fun with each other... until their fun was interrupted by a Salamence. Acting quickly, Ruby was able to knock it out with his Pokémon, but got his forehead split in the process. It was his fault that day, when his father failed the Gym Leader Test because the Salamence broke into Rayquaza's containment area, and set it free. At that time, Rayquaza was being held by the Pokémon Association near the place he and Sapphire were playing. Sapphire ran away crying, and later came to realize she ruined Ruby's dignity, and vowed to become stronger. Ruby, on the other hand, realized he had been too brutal, and promised to suppress his strength in battle.

After running away, Ruby encountered Sapphire once again without recognizing her as the girl of so many years ago, who challenged him to a contest of her own&mdash;to see if he could win all the contests in Hoenn within 80 days, and if she could defeat all the Gyms. Ruby accepted readily, thinking that he would win without a doubt. However, their challenge was abandoned when they teamed up to stop the rampaging Kyogre and Groudon by using the Red and Blue Jewels. The challenge, made 80 days ago by Sapphire, ended in a tie, with Ruby winning the Master Rank Contests, and Sapphire winning the Balance badge.

Besides necessities, Ruby also has a "Makeup Box" and "Sewing Box" in his backpack, for his contest appearances. Ruby has a pair of Running Shoes made by the Devon Corporation. He received them from his father for his eleventh birthday. They're extremely powerful and useful, and propel Ruby along the ground with bursts of compressed air.

Ruby's eyes are myopic, and he has a pair of glasses to correct this. He's usually too vain to wear them, though.

Trivia
* Ruby is the first main character whose starter Pokémon has a type advantage over that of his rival (his Mudkip vs Sapphire's Torchic). This is, of course, possibly due to both Ruby and Sapphire being based on in-game player characters, one of which ends up as the rival, depending on the player's choice of gender.
* Two of his Pokémon have nicknames matching the names of the Ice Climbers&mdash;Popo and Nana.
* Ruby's birthday is July 2nd.
* Ruby's bloodtype is O.
* All of Ruby's Pokémon mirror his gender, with the exception of Zuzu, Plusle, and Celebi, the latter being a genderless species. The same goes for Sapphire (with the exception of a genderless Pokémon), with only her starter and Minun the same gender as her.
Crystal (Japanese: クリスタル, abbreviated to クリス Crys, or Chris in Chuang Yi translations) is the seventh main character of the manga series Pokémon Special. Due to a bad fall she took as a child, breaking her arms, she learned to kick Poké Balls with her feet. Although by now her arms have been completely healed, Crystal has retained the habit of kicking her Poké Balls instead of throwing them. She's caught all non-legendary Pokémon for Professor Oak; more than any of the other characters in Pokémon Special.

She later adds Hoenn Pokémon to her collection and apparently begins to work full-time as one of Professor Oak's assistants. Crystal's Pokémon collection is used by Emerald when he goes to the Battle Frontier.

Crystal's special skill, as described by Professor Oak, is Pokémon catching, and she is known as the "catcher" (捕える者).

Pokémon
Her "starter" Pokémon was a Chikorita which escaped from Professor Elm's lab, longing to go on a journey. It should be noted, however, that Chikorita was not her first Pokémon, as she by her introduction already owned six. All of Crystal's party Pokémon have a symbol of a star somewhere on them. Some wear star necklaces or stickers, but her Cubone and Parasect had natural markings in the shape of stars.

The suffix "ee" (Japanese: "pyon") of the nicknames of her Pokémon was insisted by her mother, who named everyone except Chikorita.

Here is the list of Crystal's personal Pokémon (updated to the end of GSC Saga), although aside from these she's also captured every single one from Kanto, Johto, and Hoenn, except legendary Pokémon.
Mega was a starter Pokémon under Professor Elm's care. With his friends setting out on a journey (Cyndaquil with Gold and Totodile with Silver), Mega wanted to set out on a journey as well. After some convincing, Crys let Mega join the team. Mega is a very bold Pokémon, and is willing to get himself hurt to help others, as seen with the battle against Larvitar, in which he evolved into Bayleef. He evolved again to a Meganium in the Whirl Islands.
His first Pokémon was a Sneasel. As a child, he was kidnapped and raised by the evil Mask of Ice, where he met and became close with Blue. Together they escaped, and Silver went to Johto, where he later stole Professor Elm's Totodile. This is similar to the way Blue stole Professor Oak's Squirtle upon her return.

Silver's special skill, as described by Professor Oak, is Pokémon trading and is known as "the trader" (換える者).
In the FireRed & LeafGreen chapter it is revealed that Silver is the son of Giovanni.
Gold (Japanese: ゴールド Gold) is the fifth main character of the manga series Pokémon Special. His starter Pokémon is a Cyndaquil which he "borrowed" from Professor Elm; what his actual first Pokémon was is not clear, since he grew up in a house full of Pokémon. His neighbors in New Bark Town refer to his family as the "House of Pokémon". He likes playing billiards, but sometimes he may use his Pokémon to cheat. His favorite idol/DJ is DJ Mary from the Goldenrod Radio Station.

He usually wears a pair of goggles and travels on a scooter. Instead of throwing/kicking his Poké Balls, he uses a billiard cue to shoot them out. Gold's hobbies include gambling, skateboarding, and trying foods from different cities. Prof. Oak noted that while Red had some odd habits, Gold is much more immature and mischeivious.

Gold's special skill, as described by Professor Oak, is Pokémon hatching and is known as "the hatcher" (孵す者). He has the ability to draw out the largest potential of a baby Pokémon, having lived with Pokémon his whole life.

At the end of the GSC saga, Gold goes to train with Red on Mt. Silver. Later, during the Emerald saga, he bonds with Emerald, likely due to their mutual mischevious natures.

Yellow (Japanese: イエロー Yellow), or Amarillo del Bosque Verde (Japanese: イエロー・デ・トキワグローブ Yellow de Tokiwa Grove) is the fourth main character of the manga series Pokémon Special. She first appeared in volume three, when she was saved by Red from a rampaging wild Dratini.

When Red goes missing, Blue sends Yellow out to find him, and has her disguise herself as a boy. Most of the characters did not learn her real gender until the end of the G/S/C saga. Yellow's straw hat hides her ponytail as well as containing the Rainbow Wing and Silver Wing.

Yellow's first Pokémon is a Rattata that Red caught for her. Her starter Pokémon is Red's Pikachu which travels with her when she searches for Red. She later obtained her own Pikachu, Chuchu, which made a Pichu egg with Red's Pikachu at the Johto Pokémon daycare.

Yellow's special skill, as described by Professor Oak, is Pokémon healing and is called the "healer" (癒やす者). She received psychic abilities from the Viridian Forest, which include the ability to read the emotions of Pokémon and heal their wounds. Yellow is physically small and can still pass for a boy even at 14, something that is a running gag within the manga.

After being reunited, he lent her Pika again for the time he was in Mt. Silver's Springs to overcome the frostbites Lorelei's Pokémon gave him.
* Mewtwo - Ended up in her care after her and it ended up separated from Blaine. She kept it in its Master Ball the whole time.

Abilities
Being born with special abilities, Yellow was taught how to use them by Green and has demonstated several as of the Fifth chapter. Her abilities demonstrated include:

*Limited telekinesis, enough to manipulate a Poké Ball on a string.
*The ability to read the minds, emotions, and memories of Pokémon, humans, and occasionally plants.
*Healing abilties, thus far only used on Pokémon.
*Able to "synch spirits" with her Pokémon to boost their levels into the mid 80's in times of need.

Trivia
*Yellow and Emerald are the only Pokémon Special characters not directly based on game characters. They also are named after the third version of the first two odd-numbered generations. Yellow is, however, the 4th game of Generation I in Japan, with Blue being the third.
*Many of Yellow's abilties are similar to Aura within the anime, though it should be noted that Yellow came many years earlier.
Green (English: Blue, Japanese: グリーン Green) is the second main character of the manga series Pokémon Special. He is the grandson of Professor Oak.

Green debuts in the first round of the manga, A Glimpse of the Glow where he and his rival Red sees a Mew in a Pallet Town forest. His first Pokémon was a Scyther -- he is shown one when he was a child. When he was young, he trained in Johto under Chuck, the Gym Leader of Cianwood City.

Green's special skill, as described by Professor Oak, is training -- that is, leveling them up and making them strong, and as such is referred to as the Trainer (Japanese: 育てる者).

Green has a serious, calm, and focused personality in everything he does. Although Red and Green were once bothered by each other because their personalities are so opposite, they ended up resolving their differences.

Green and his Scyther were trained by Chuck of Cianwood City when he was a child. Thus, Green has some cursory knowledge of martial arts, and his Scyther knew Generation II techniques.

Green also has a rivalry with Koga of Team Rocket. This began when Green almost killed Koga's Arbok by having his Charmeleon cut it in two, and continued on throughout the series till Koga's reclusion.

Red, Green & Blue chapter
Green and Red set off to compete in filling up the Pokédex for Professor Oak. Green receives a Charmander from his grandfather and trains it extensively, causing it to evolve quickly.

During the course of their adventures, Red and Green accidentally traded Pokémon. This caused Green's Machoke to evolve, and Green took the opportunity to teach Red's Pokémon more exotic, varied, and useful moves. Red's training on Green's Pokémon made them more playful and lighthearted, something that greatly annoyed Green.

Green's cockiness becomes subdued as the story continues, and his personality becomes less mocking and more aloof and quiet. He often becomes flummoxed by Blue's hyperactive meddling in everyone's affairs.

At the Pokémon League tournament, Red's Venusaur barely defeats Green's Charizard. This tames their rivalry as the two finally begin to respect each other, and begin to become friendly rivals.

Yellow chapter
In the Yellow Saga, Green tutors Yellow in more intense strategies for battles. He later teams up with Koga to fight Agatha of the Elite 4.

Gold, Silver & Crystal chapter
Green takes on the role of the Viridian City Gym Leader after Red is forced to turn it down. He captures several powerful Pokémon that were enraged by the Pokémon March Radio song and assists in the final battle with the Mask of Ice.

FireRed & LeafGreen chapter
Green and Red go to Professor Oak's lab at the professor's request. They don't see the professor but find a note that tells them to return the Pokédexes. As they leave they are attacked by a mysterious Pokémon.
They decide to go to the Sevii Islands.
He and Red go through a series of tests given to them by Brinca to obtain the ultimate attacks, Blast Burn and Frenzy Plant. Green teaches the legendary Fire move Blast Burn to his Charizard.
After meeting up with Elite Four member, Lorelei, they split up to defend the Sevii Islands from Team Rocket.
Green fights with Oca of the Beast Warrior Trio and his Shuckles, learning that Team Rocket kidnapped his grandfather.
After saving Prof. Oak, he traveled back to Kanto, and helped stop the Team Rocket airship from crashing into Vermilion City.
He was turned into stone soon afterwards by an energy explosion.

He, along with the other four who were turned to stone, are being shipped to the Battle Frontier in a box to be revived.

Emerald chapter
For most part of this chapter, he, along with five other Pokédex-holders, remained turned into stones. It was only at nearly the end of the chapter that he and the others were liberated by Emerald with the help of the wish-granting legendary Pokémon Jirachi.

The Pokémon Green received from his grandfather, Professor Oak. It was taught the powerful Blast Burn technique in the Sevii Islands. Like most of Green's Pokémon, it has a stern personality. Captured before and debuted in A Glimpse of the Glow as Charmander in a battle against Mew. Evolved into Charmeleon sometime between The Secret of Kangaskhan and Onix is On!.
Trivia
*Green and Blue are the only main Pokémon Special characters whose names were changed for the English translation. This is due to the complexity of Generation I's game releases, where in Japan, Red Version was paired with Green Version (leaving Blue as the third), and in the rest of the world Red was paired with Blue (while there was no Green). Just the same, his Blue is named Blue in the English translation of Generation II's games.
Blue (English: Green; Japanese: ブルー Blue) is the third main character of the manga series Special. Her first Pokémon was a Jigglypuff. As a young child, she was kidnapped by Ho-Oh and raised by the evil Mask of Ice, where she met and became close with Silver. (This kidnapping led to her ornithophobia, which is not cured until the end of the GSC Saga.) The two of them escaped, and Blue went to Kanto, where she stole Professor Oak's Squirtle.

Blue is quite cunning and quick-witted. She can talk others into believing a bold-faced lie and talk her way out of many tight situations. At one point, she convinces Red to buy a bunch of useless items for his Pikachu. Blue is also a master of disguise, she uses her Ditto as a mask and is able to make herself look like anyone she wants.

Blue's special skill, as defined by Professor Oak, is evolving; she is known as the "evolver" (化える者). However, until recently she refrained from evolving her Pokémon, because she preferred to lull her opponents into a false sense of security by using unevolved "cute" Pokémon. The special skills of Blue and Silver are homophonous in Japanese.

The original Blue was designed after the early sketches for a Lass and a female protagonist shown in early concept art for Pokémon Red and Green Versions (however, the idea of choosing the character's gender was unable to be implemented until Pokémon Crystal Version due to the limitations of the game card). For the Pokémon FireRed & LeafGreen Versions, her design was based on Leaf.

Red, Green & Blue chapter
Blue first met Red and tried to scam him out of his money by selling fake items. Red hunted her down to reclaim his money, but she used this opportunity to steal his badges. Then Red learnt that her Squirtle was stolen from Professor Oak.

Later, she reveals that she was kidnapped by Ho-Oh as a child, and was in fact originally from Pallet Town. She has ornithophobia and is afraid of Flying Pokémon because of this.

Blue eventually ends up as rival to Sabrina, and helps Red and Green defeat the Elite Four.

Afterwards, she manages to get into the 9th Pokémon League tournament without badges by making it through special qualifying elimination rounds. Blue makes it to fourth place, but is defeated by Professor Oak, who uses her fear of birds against her by using a team of Flying-type Pokémon to defeat her. She confesses to Professor Oak who forgives her for stealing Squirtle and gives her the last Pokédex.

Yellow chapter
Blue trains Yellow and gives Yellow her boy disguise, and sends her off to save Red. She believes the Elite Four were controlling Ho-Oh, so carries a grudge against them. However, she eventually learns she was wrong and resolves to return to Johto.

Gold, Silver & Crystal chapter
Blue reappears late in the storyline, when her relationship with Silver is disclosed. She and Silver escaped from the Mask of Ice, who used Ho-Oh and Lugia to kidnap her along with Will, Chermaine, Karen, and Keane to be his servants. Blue confronts Ho-Oh and finally overcomes her ornithophobia, and uses the Legendary Birds to help defeat the Mask of Ice.

FireRed & LeafGreen chapter
More of Blue's past is revealed in this chapter including how she, along with Silver managed to escape from the clutches of the Mask of Ice. She finally learns that her parents have moved to the Sevii Islands and resolves to reunite with them. Before she can, both they and Professor Oak are kidnapped by Deoxys. Here, her Pokémon finally evolve to their final stages and her Blastoise learns the legendary Water move - Hydro Cannon. At the end of this saga, she was turned to stone along with 4 other Pokédex Holders.

Emerald chapter
For most part of this chapter, she, along with five other Pokédex-holders, remained turned into stones. It was only at nearly the end of the chapter that she and the others were liberated by Emerald with the help of the wish-granting legendary Pokémon Jirachi.

Pokémon
Most of Blue's Pokémon nicknames, with the exception of Puriri, contain syllables from the species' Japanese name, followed by a Japanese honorific. "Puriri" comes from Jigglypuff's Japanese name, Purin.
Trivia
* Blue's Pokémon were unnamed in Viz's American translations of Pokémon Adventures. Their English nicknames were first in Chuang Yi's translations of Sevii Island Arc. Surprisingly, her Jigglypuff didn't get an English nickname, for some reason.
* Before official nicknames of Blue's Pokémon were released, Coronis coined his own, which were often seen used by fandom. Coincidentally, Chuang Yi's nicknames were almost the same as Coronis's ones (except Blastoise and Jigglypuff).
* Her Snubbull (now a Granbull) got a gender change. In Volume 15 he's listed as male, while in Volume 24 she's listed as female.
* Blue and Green are the only main Pokémon Special characters whose names were changed for the English translation. This is due to the complexity of Generation I's game releases, where in Japan, Red Version was paired with Green Version (leaving Blue as the third), and in the rest of the world Red was paired with Blue (while there was no Green). Since she was not Red's rival, the translators did not see it fitting that she have her name be that of Red's "rival version".
Red (Japanese: レッド Red) is the first main character of the manga series Pokémon Special. His first Pokémon was a Poliwag, which evolved into a Poliwhirl when saving him from drowning.

Red is eleven years old at the beginning of Generation I. He is first seen in Glimpse of the Glow, when he shows a group of children the proper way to catch a Pokémon. He demonstrates by using his Poliwhirl to battle a wild Nidorino. Red is very sentimental, as shown in the battle versus Green in the ninth annual Pokémon League tournament. He believes that defeating an opponent is no fun if they are at a disadvantage, as seen in both The Secret of Kangaskhan and Make Way for Magmar!. At the beginning of the series, he is quite cocky, as shown in Suddenly Starmie. However, this cockiness has subsided by the end of the RGB Saga.

Red's special skill, as described by Professor Oak, is Pokémon battling. He is called the "battler" (戦う者).

In later adventures, Red has been viewed as a leader amongst the Pokédex holders, although second to Professor Oak.

Red, Green & Blue chapter
left|thumb|Red in the first chapter
In this saga, Red is the main protagonist. His main rival is Green. Red set off across Kanto to collect the Gym Badges to enter the Pokémon League tournament. Along the way, he learns of Team Rocket by befriending the Cerulean City Gym Leader Misty in Gyarados Splashes In! and training with her in Suddenly Starmie.

Later, Red has his Badges stolen by a mischievous trainer called Blue. Eventually, Red, Green, and Blue team up to defeat Team Rocket's admins&mdash;Lt. Surge, Koga, and Sabrina, who were using the Legendary Birds to take over Saffron City. Red also meets Blaine, and helps him capture the escaped experimental Pokémon Mewtwo, so that Blaine can cure them of the empathic connection they share.

Red later encounters Yellow in Viridian Forest and finds that Team Rocket has been releasing abused Pokémon into the Forest to make them stronger. Red meets Giovanni and defeats him in an intense battle.

With the badges he gained, Red is able to enter the Pokémon League and emerge as a Champion of the 9th Pokémon League competition. This makes him interesting to the Elite Four.

Yellow chapter
Red was challenged by the Elite Four, who wanted him to join them in their quest to wipe out humanity. When he refused, Lorelei froze him in a block of ice. Only Pika escaped and made it to Yellow. Giovanni rescued him and he sought out his friends who are fighting the Elite Four.

Gold, Silver & Crystal chapter
Red is offered the newly open position of Viridian City Gym Leader, but has to turn it down due to injuries from being frozen. He leaves to recuperate at the springs in Mt. Silver. Later, he and the other main characters team up with several legendary Pokémon to help fight the Mask of Ice. At the end of the story, Gold becomes impressed with Red and goes to train under him at Mt. Silver.

FireRed & LeafGreen chapter
Red, Green, and Blue return to visit Professor Oak, who was kidnapped to make Pokédexes for Team Rocket and taken to the Sevii Islands. There at the islands, Red, Blue, and Green fight the new Team Rocket Admins, the Beast Warrior Trio, as well as Deoxys, who is under control of Giovanni. Red undergoes special training on the second Sevii Island where his Venusaur learns the legendary Grass move Frenzy Plant. However, he is still defeated by Deoxys, who he shares a strange connection with.

Mewtwo shows up and offers to battle under Red's command to get revenge on Deoxys. Mewtwo manages to defeat Deoxys on the Team Rocket helicopter. However, one of the Beast Warrior Trio has placed his Forretress all over the helicopter and ordered them to use Explosion, and while Deoxys transports everyone else aboard to safety, Red stays behind to defeat the Forretress and stop the aircraft from blowing up over Vermilion City.

He later discovers that Deoxys absorbed Red's blood when it broke free from Team Rocket's lab.

At the end of the saga, Red is turned to stone along with the other main characters by Sird's beam intended for Deoxys.
In the Emerald chapter, Red along with Blue, Green, Silver, and Yellow are on the S.S. Tidal in boxes (still statues) for the wedding ceremony at the Battle Frontier for their salvation.

Emerald chapter
For most of this chapter, Red, along with five other Pokédex holders, remain frozen in stones. It was only at nearly the end of the chapter that he and the others were liberated by Emerald with the help of the wish-granting legendary Pokémon Jirachi.

Pokémon
Red's Pokémon nicknames are taken from two syllables from their Japanese language-version names.
Fusshii was the Pokémon Red received from Professor Oak. It is one of his most powerful team members and has defeated Green's Charizard in battle. Professor Oak gave it to him because Red figured out how to let it use its powerful SolarBeam attack to a Machoke they encountered in the Viridian City Gym. In the Sevii Islands, Fushii learned Frenzy Plant, an extremely powerful attack only Grass starters can learn. Debuted and captured as Bulbasaur in Bulbasaur, Come Home!.
Nyoro is Red's first Pokémon, and has been with him since early childhood. Nyoro is very loyal and evolved to save Red from drowning twice. He excels at physical attacks, as well as Ice Beam. It debuted as Poliwhirl in A Glimpse of the Glow. Captured as Poliwag before A Glimpse of the Glow.
* Pikachu♂ (Pika; ピカ Pika)
Pika was once a mischievous Pokémon that terrorized Pewter City stealing food, causing trouble, and shocking people. Pika befriended Yellow, and mated with Yellow's Pikachu, Chuchu to produce Gold's Pichu. When Pika was accidentally traded to Green, it was taught a variety of different moves, such as Substitute and Toxic. Under Yellow's care, it later learned how to Surf. Debuted and captured in Wanted: Pikachu!.
* Gyarados♂ (Gyara; ギャラ Gyara)
Gyara once belonged to Misty, but it was captured and experimented on by Team Rocket to make it more fierce. Red recaught it when it was out of control and gave it back to Misty. Later, when Red was unable to get the Surf HM, Misty traded Gyara for Red's Krabby so that Red could reach Cinnabar Island. Debuted in Gyarados Splashes In!.
* Snorlax♂ (Lax; ゴン Gon)
Red caught Gon because he was blocking the road during a bicycle race. Gon is very gluttonous and is driven into a frenzy by the smell of honey. Later, after extensive training, Gon becomes one of the most physically powerful members of Red's team.
* Aerodactyl♂ (Aero; プテ Pte)
Red acquired Pte when Blaine resurrected him from a piece of Old Amber on Cinnabar Island to help Blaine fight off a Moltres that Team Rocket had captured. Red uses Pte whenever he needs to get somewhere by flying.
* Vui - A Pokémon experimented on by Team Rocket that Red captured under Erika's direction. It was genetically modified to have unstable DNA, allowing it to evolve and devolve from Eevee, to Jolteon, Flareon, and Vaporeon when exposed to new stones. Later, Red was able to heal its emotional trauma and it permanently evolved into Espeon. Red adds Vui to his team whenever Pika is with Yellow or needs a rest. Captured in Blame it on Eevee.
* Diglett - A minor Pokémon that Red caught after he and Green accidentally switched Pokémon. So far, he has only used it while battling Eevee. Captured in A Tale of Ninetales.
* Sandshrew - Red occasionally uses this Pokémon to fight Fire-types.
* Nidorino - Red caught this Pokémon to demonstrate his capture abilities in Pallet Town to some children, but never used it since then. Debuted and captured in A Glimpse of the Glow.
Status Unknown
Trivia
*Red's Pokémon were not nicknamed in Viz's translations of Pokémon Adventures (except Pika). Their English nicknames were first officially used in Chuang Yi's translations of Sevii Island Arc. Coincidentally, they are exactly the same as Coronis's nicknames coined long before Chuang Yi.
*Red is the only male protagonist of Pokémon Special to challenge Gyms. Ruby challenges Contests while neither Gold nor Diamond does either Contests or Gyms.
*Red's birthday is August 8.
*Red's blood type is O.
Pearl (Japanese: パール Pearl) is one of the male main characters for the Pokémon Diamond and Pearl story arc of Pokémon Special. He is impatient and is often accidentally getting himself and his friend, Diamond into trouble. He is the straight man (tsukkomi) of the comedy duo, with Diamond as the funny man. His appearance is based off that of Pearl from the video game series.

A mix-up has them thinking they will gain a prize for escorting Platina to Mt. Coronet. Platina, mistaking them for her bodyguards, has given them Pokédexes, Pokétches, and starter Pokémon from Professor Rowan. Pearl is eventually enlightened by Platina's real bodyguards about her true identity, and is shocked when Diamond had figured it out already. Afterwards, Pearl convinced Diamond to set their dream of becoming great comedians aside for the time being to protect Platina.

While Pearl does not have an active interest in battling, his father taught him a lot and so he has picked up a lot of useful techniques. He puts this into use by coaching Platina for her Gym challenges. Pearl is fairly hyper and tends to overeact at times. His most useful skill is being able to tell what move a Pokémon will use next and counter accordingly. He eventually begins to seriously train his Pokémon after discovering Platina's heritage.

Pearl is the unoffical leader of the party; he also composes battle strategies for Platina's Gym challenges. Pearl and Diamond are practically as close as brothers, however, that doesn't mean Diamond doesn't get on Pearl's nerves, at which point Diamond receives a smack to the head. Pearl has a deep respect for Platina, amazed at her level of skill in practically everything. But this is usually masked by Pearl's annoyance at her for being aloof.
*Saruhiko: Quite possibly the most used Pokémon by any of the three Sinnoh trainers. His speed and agility are often put to good use. Received from Platina due to the mix-up.
*Perahiko: Pearl's first Pokémon. Resourceful Pokémon that Pearl occasionally uses for spying. A fairly strong battler.
*Luxray: Pearl befriended this Luxray as a Luxio, and helped it regain its "speech" after its claws had been broken. This Luxio later evolved and helped Diamond rescue Pearl and Platina from a cave-in caused by Cyrus. It later appeared to Pearl at Fuego Ironworks, where he officially captured it.
