Steven Stone (Japanese: ツワブキ ダイゴ Daigo Tsuwabuki) is the Elite Champion in Pokémon Ruby and Sapphire, and a powerful wandering trainer in Emerald, having relegated his title to Wallace. He is a master of the Steel, with a Metagross being the keystone of his team.

Steven is the son of the president of the Devon Corporation, and he and his father both collect rare stones. Steven makes his home on Mossdeep, and when the Elite Four are beaten in Ruby, Sapphire, and Emerald, he will have left a Beldum and a note for the player.
At the end of the episode, Ash vowed to train harder so one day he could be powerful enough to battle Steven.

His Japanese voice actor is 西　凛太郎 Rintarō Nishi and his English voice actor is Jimmy Zoppi.

His strategy in battle is to use Steel Pokémon to find the opponent's weakness.

Steven is the Champion in Ruby and Sapphire. In Emerald, Wallace replaces him in this role.

In Pokémon Emerald, Steven is a powerful wandering trainer who gave up competing seriously to spend more time looking for rare rocks and stones. He claims to be willing to climb waterfalls to find rare stones. With this hint, the player can find him in the upper area of Meteor Falls after championing the Elite Four.
NOTE: Steven is found in Meteor Falls in a corridor opened after beating the Elite Four. Battling him is not part of the storyline.

In the Pokémon Special manga
Steven met Ruby while looking through the Granite Cave. During a battle with wild Mawile, Ruby's Skitty bumped into one of Steven's Moon Stones, causing it to evolve.

Steven was well-aware of the danger Team Magma and Team Aqua presented, and extended an invitation to Ruby to join the fight against them. Steven invited him to help, but Ruby declined because he didn't like battling. The armlets on Steven's arms are devices he can chip away stone with, to grab and retrieve rocks he sees that are out of reach.

Later in the series, Steven confessed that he and his father, the owner of the Devon Corporation, knew about the schemes of Team Magma and Team Aqua quite long ago. Mr. Stone built the Submarine Explorer 1 so that Steven can seal the Seafloor Cavern and no one would be able to wake Kyogre and Groudon. The backup plan in case it fails would be to unseal Registeel, Regirock, and Regice.

Steven later assembles the rest of the Hoenn Elite Four in order to fight against Kyogre and Groudon. With the help of Sapphire's Wailord and Relicanth, Steven and the Elite Four unsealed the Regis. Steven took controlled of Registeel and gave the other two Regis to the other members of the Elite Four.

Knowing he would die in Kyogre and Groudon's battle, Steven stepped down from the position of Champion, and gave it back to Wallace, who was actually the true champion while Steven had only been a runner-up. After Kyogre and Groudon returned to their respective domains, Steven apparently died from the strain of controlling the Regis, but was later revived under mysterious circumstances when Ruby released his Celebi.

Steven uses his Metagross to fly around Hoenn. Its magnetism allows him to float atop it.
Quotes
Pokémon Ruby and Sapphire
"Welcome, <name>. I was looking forward to seeing you here one day. You... What did you see on your journey with Pokémon? What did you feel, meeting so many other Trainers like you? What has awoken in you? I want you to hit me with it all! Now, bring it!"

"I, the Champion, fall in defeat... Kudos to you, <name>! You are a truly noble Pokémon Trainer!"

"Congratulations! The feelings you have for your Pokémon... And the Pokémon that responded to those feelings with all their might... They came together as one, and created an even greater power. And thus, you were able to grasp victory today! You are rightfully the Hoenn region's new..."

"<name>... No, the new Champion! Come with me. I'm sorry, but... From here on, only those Trainers who have become Champions may enter. You'll have to wait outside with the Professor."

"This room... This is where we keep records of Pokémon that prevailed through harsh battles. It is here that the League Champions are honored. Come on, let's record your name as a Trainer who triumphed over the Pokémon League, and the names of the partners who battled with you."

Pokémon Emerald
"Oh, wow, <name>. I'm amazed you knew where to find me. Do you, uh...maybe think of me as just a rock maniac? No, that can't be right. We battled alongside each other at the Sootopolis Space Center. You should have a very good idea about how good I am. Okay, <name>, if you're going to mount a serious challenge, expect the worst!"

"You... I had no idea you'd become so strong..."

"Come to think of it, ever since our paths first crossed in Granite Cave in Dewford, I had this feeling. I thought that you would eventually become the Champion. My predictions usually come true. And where will you go from here? ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... Fufufu, even I could't tell you that."

Trivia
* In Pokémon Emerald, when the player character speaks to him in Meteor Falls before their battle, he makes an error. He talks of their encounter in the Sootopolis City Space Center. The Space Center is actually in Mossdeep City, and this dialog may result from the encounter the player has with him in Sootopolis in Ruby and Sapphire.
* Also in Emerald, the battle with Steven against Maxie and Tabitha is the only occasion in the Generation III games where the player teams up with an ally for a double battle. This would later happen multiple times in Generation IV.
He is an expert of Normal Pokémon, and hands out the Balance Badge to Trainers who defeat him.

In the anime
In the anime, he is the father of May and Max, and the husband of Caroline.

His Japanese voice actor is 小杉十郎太 Jūrōta Kosugi, his English voice actor is Dan Green, and his Brazilian voice actors are Élcio Sodré (AG003) and Mauro Eduardo (the following appearances).

Very early in his Hoenn journey, Ash Ketchum arrived with May in Petalburg City in the hope of getting his first gym battle. Ash found the Petalburg Gym and met Max. May stopped him and allowed Ash to meet her parents, Caroline and Norman. Norman turned out be to the real Petalburg City Gym Leader. Norman used his Pokémon, a Vigoroth, to save May's Torchic from Team Rocket.

Norman is a good friend of Professor Birch and was most likely to have been the person to send May to Littleroot Town to get her first Pokémon. As May did not initially like Pokémon, this seems to have created some distance between the two. Before Ash knew that Norman was May's father, he comments that it sounds like she knows the Petalburg Gym Leader pretty well, to which she replies, "No, I just wish I did" and becomes subdued.

The day after that, in Love, Petalburg Style, May and Max tried to figure out why Norman and Caroline are getting all worked up as Ash Ketchum tries to save Norman's three Pokémon from Team Rocket. It all turned out that Norman had Nurse Joy build a firework launcher to make fireworks in a form of a Beautifly in anniversary of their own wedding day.

Ash Ketchum had his gym battle with Norman in Balance of Power. Using his Grovyle, Pikachu, and Torkoal, Ash defeated Norman's Pokémon, much to Max's dismay. Max stole the Balance Badge and locked himself up in Norman's greenhouse. Norman was able to get Max under control and Max gave Ash his Balance Badge.

In the games
Norman is also the player character's father in Ruby, Sapphire, and Emerald no matter which gender is selected. The other gender choice (and therefore the rival) is the son/daughter of Professor Birch.

Although he is the first Gym Leader encountered, he refuses to battle until the player has at least four badges. Once he is beaten, he gives the player the Balance Badge.

Norman and his family are originally from Johto. He, as well as the player, have just moved to Hoenn so that he could take up the position of Gym Leader. People have come to describe him as someone who "lives for Pokémon."

Norman also provides special items scanned in via e-Reader to the player.
In the Pokémon Special manga
In Pokémon Special, Norman is the father of Ruby, and his wife is nameless. He is a man who believes in power and he is very skillful in battling. Because of that, he strongly disagreed with Ruby's obsession with contests. When Ruby reached his 11th birthday, however, he decided that Ruby is old enough to make his decision and finally let him have his own way.

Physically, he is so strong that he can squeeze a phone receiver into pieces without effort, and he won't hesitate to use this strength on his son when he deems necessary. However, he still cares for Ruby very much: He asked his wife to arrange their move to Hoenn on the date of Ruby's birthday so that he can tell him about his permission for Ruby to take part in contests in person. He also prepared a pair of special running shoes made by the Devon Corporation for his birthday. Later, he also gave a Pokéblock holder to Ruby.

There are several hints from the series showing Norman had had unpleasant encounters with the Pokémon Association. The beginning of all could possibly be traced back to 7 years prior to the start of the Ruby/Sapphire Saga, where Norman failed his Gym Leader Test in Johto.

7 years ago, Norman was banned from taking the Gym Leader Test for several years, because of Ruby, who had fended off a Salamence. At that time, the Pokémon Association had Rayquaza locked up nearby. They were experimenting with an artificially made stone called the Emerald Orb. The Salamence broke into Rayquaza's containment area and set it free. As a result, Norman took the blame for his son, and became distant from his family to hunt down Rayquaza.

During the battle between Groudon and Kyogre, Norman fought using Rayquaza and defeated and calmed the two titans. He died after Groudon and Kyogre left to their respective domains, supposedly because of the strain needed to control Rayquaza without a proper medium. However, Norman was later revived under mysterious circumstances when Ruby released his Celebi.
"[Player name]... I had a feeling that you would come. I would never refuse to accept a challenge from you. You do understand, don't you? Inside a Gym, it doesn't matter that we are a parent and child. No, because we are parent and child, we owe it to each other to do the best we can. Isn't that right, [player name]?"

Pokémon cloning is a glitch that occurs which enables a player to make an exact clone of a Pokémon.

Generation I
The Generation I Cloning (discovered in 1999) is extremely hazardous, due to the risk of corruption of the data if done wrong. Must be done with an "incomplete trade" (this deletes a Pokémon). The steps are the following:

#Catch a Pokémon to sacrifice (in the game that doesn't have the Pokémon that you want to clone), preferably a weak and common one (a Pidgey will do).
#Get in the Cable Club. Select the weak Pokémon to be traded with the Pokémon to clone. Begin the transfer like normally. Wait for the animations to finish.
#When the Message "WAIT..." disappears, and just before "TRANSFER COMPLETE!" appears, turn off the game that originally had the Pokémon you want to clone.
#The other game will be locked up and the weak Pokémon will be deleted.
#After turning the games on again, both players will have the same Pokémon in their respective parties.

Generation II
The most common way for it to be done in the Pokémon Gold and Silver versions is as follows:

#Save the game.
#Deposit the Pokémon that is going to be cloned.
#Switch boxes to any box.
#When it says "Do you want to overwrite saved data?" select yes. However, while the capitalized word "SAVING" is on the screen, shut the game off. If the timing is off, saved data could be erased. However, as long as the game is turned off from around the time "SAVE" is on the screen to when the word "POWER" is shown, the game will be fine.
#Turn the game back on, and there should be the original Pokémon in the party, and a copy of it in the box. If the Pokémon was holding an item, that item will also be cloned.

Shutting the game off while saving in the Box Change makes the game to save the changes inside the PC, but not outside. So, the player's party and items will be the way they were at the last place the player saved, but the PC will keep the changes the player had just made.

This lets the player do a variety of massive tricks like cloning five Pokémon at the same time; or get the three starter Pokémon (though it's dangerous to do) saving, starting a new game and avoiding saving until the player can deposit your Pokémon in the PC, then do the "save trick", and when turning on again, the player will have the Pokémon stored at PC (It's better to do this with a just started game due to the risk of deleting all the Pokémon in the box you use, or even in all the PC)

Warning: Do not attempt this method in Pokémon Red and Blue or Pokémon Yellow. Attempting this glitch in the Generation I games will sometimes give you a cloned Pokémon, but it is much more likely that the cheat will erase your saved game by corrupting the saved data.

Warning: Do not try taking the game out instead of turning off. this may result in all the boxes before the one the player used to clone (e.g if box 6 was used, box 1, 2, 3, 4, 5 and 6 will be glitched) will be unaccessable, although if the player does succeed, then there will be lots of glitched Pokémon in those boxes, some may have never been seen by the player, and the only way to recover the game is to release all the glitch Pokémon. All the Pokémon that were in the glitched boxes will have been deleted.

Another method to clone in Pokémon Gold and Silver is the method for the first generation.

Generation III
This method is only available for use in Pokémon Emerald. It can only be accessed after the player has beaten the Elite Four, as it requires that they are able to visit the Battle Frontier. Once the player is at the Battle Frontier they must do as follows:

# Go to the Battle Tower.
# Deposit the Pokémon that will be cloned into a box, preferably an empty one.
# Save the game through the normal method.
# Withdraw the Pokémon from the box. Make sure that you don't deposit any Pokémon during this step because you will most definitely lose it!
# Talk to the nearest receptionist to the PC.
# Enter any competition, and when the lady asks you to save, select "Yes". There should be a short pause before the real save screen appears. Restart the game system after the pause. If one restarts during the pause, it may corrupt one's save data, and may erase the game's data. If a player allows the game to save, then the cloning will not work.

Once the game is powered on again, the player will appear in front of the receptionist. This is because the game has saved data during the short pause, and once game play has started again, the player can check their party and the PC box, and both will have the cloned Pokémon they chose. This method is 100% data corruption-free as long as the steps are followed correctly. Items may be duplicated in this method by having a Pokémon hold the item. Items may also be duplicated by having Pokémon in the PC hold the item before saving, taking the item from them, then performing the glitch. The result is having the item(s) in the inventory, but a copy of them still being on the Pokémon in the PC. This method is probably the most efficient of all the methods.

Generation IV
There is a way to clone Pokémon in the English version of Diamond and Pearl, it can however be hazardous to the game, there are accounts of not being able to log on to the GTS after this glitch.

# Login to Nintendo Wi-Fi connection.
# Select and deposit the Pokémon that is going to be cloned.
# Choose an impossible or unlikely Pokémon as the request, such as level 9 or under Dialga, etc.
# When the player check the GTS status pay close attention to the little clock on the screen, when it has gone around about eight and a half times turn the DS off. The time will vary depending on how far away the Nintendo DS is from the wireless router (or USB connector) and how fast the player's internet connection is.
# Turn the DS back on, a box should come up saying that the save file is corrupted. (This is normal.)
# Load the game and login to Wi-Fi again. If done correctly the Pokémon will be in the GTS and the game.
# Take the Pokémon off GTS.

It is sometimes claimed that this glitch no longer works because of its constant failure rate. The timing must be exact, so it's suggested that a timer be used to count down 12 seconds at first before turning off the game, and then add 1 second each time it doesn't work, until it eventually works. It can sometimes be just milliseconds off and still not work, not to mention the timing changes every once in awhile, so it's very difficult to do.
