:::::You have to remember that in Japan, grandparents are YOUNG. Or at least, in Japanese media, but I assume that refers to the actual situation in Japan. If most couples are married by 20, and immediately have children, then you can have a 50 year old grandfather at the age of 10. "40 years ago, when I was your age" seems to be a common reoccuring theme for Anime/Manga grandparents. Also note that this age estimate was never present in the games, and considering the more youthful appearance of Oak and Agatha in the anime rather than in the games, we can probably assume that Blue's grandfather is older than 50. Remember, he's too old to go out travelling the world, training and fighting with Pokémon. Prof. Oak in the anime even uses a Dragonite in battle, so various things don't apply cross-canon. But it's not too inconceivable to have a 50 year old grandfather. In America these days, we often don't have children until much later, let alone get married around 20 (usually, marriage occurs in mid to late 20s, again, IN AMERICA). But my grandparents had my dad when my grandmother was 19 and my grandfather was 21, so if my dad had done the same, I would have had a 50 year old grandfather (approximately). Because I wasn't born until much later, I don't. But it's all about culture here. Satosuke 04:51, 28 October 2008 (UTC)

*Player Character approaches the stone tablet.

Oak: I tried deciphering the engravings on this stone tablet. Apparently, it is for a Trainer to engrave his or her thoughts after growing as a person on an adventure.
I want you to sincerely tell me who affected you the most. Tell me, to whom do you most want to say your thanks?

*Player Character enters an answer.

Oak: Hm... You most want to express your thanks to (Player's choice here)? You're absolutely certain of it?"

*Player Character says yes.

*Screen whites out, Seabreak Path appears, Shaymin runs along and cries twice. The whole area is now covered in flowers instead of dirt.

Oak: ?! What was that Pokemon? Is it somehow connected to the stone tablet? Hmm... Where did that Pokemon go? Its destination is intriguing.

::I agree. It depends what is meant by "trainer class"; was the general consensus "class" as in occupation? If so, I guess maybe we should keep him as "Prof. Oak" under some kind of 'unique trainers in Generation I' template, where the different gym leaders, Blue* and Professor Oak* would be included, all the others could fit into 'trainer type'. I know it seems rather strange to do that but as you suggested; Generation I doesn't use a 'trainer prefix' byte. Generation I only uses a single 8-bit byte for 'trainer type', though there is a separate roster address 0xD05D [01XX5DD0], which defines which team the trainer uses (as you know, changeable via the Ditto Trick/Old Man Trick). For trainers like Youngster 'class' makes sense but not for Prof. Oak, though he has three teams regardless. Something that needs to be changed; "Rival" and "Leader" were added to the template as "Generation I introduced" trainer classes, that needs to be removed.
Samuel Oak
His first name is only mentioned in the anime. With that said, I believe all mentioning of Samuel Oak should be removed from this page since we have this now. Also, I think Samuel Oak should redirect to Professor Oak (anime) and not here. == Oak's Pokémon in GenI ==
So, used the name "Mr.[Pk][Mn]" and did the "old man glitch". Oak appeared, but his 6 Pokémon were Drowzee, Rhydon, Pidgey, Grimer, Missingno. (-> game crash...), each on Lv. 111. Do you have to beat the elite four or something to challenge his "real" team or did this happen, because one used the German version of Pokémon Blue? --Bernd 00:50, 31 December 2011 (UTC)
:Amended the article. MN does yield Oak, but due to there being no character that corresponds to the index number of his teams (which are 1, 2, and 3), it is impossible to fight one of these teams. You would have fought team #225, which is just garbage data. The only way to fight these teams is via the Mew glitch after lowering the Ditto's attack by 4, 5, or 6 stages (which correspond to teams 3, 2, and 1, respectively). --<span style="color:#A70000">Snorlax</span><span style="color:#0000A7">Monster</span> 14:20, 2 January 2012 (UTC)

Wild Dratini's Level
I've found wild Dratini in here (surfing) ranging from levels 7-15 in HeartGold, English version. I'm still kind of a newbie to editing around here, so I don't want to push the actual update and risk stepping on toes. -- MaoDaAmargura 03:35, 23 April 2010 (UTC)

I have found this to be false as i used a Super Rod and the 1st Dratini i caught was a level 40. Can someone please fix this or somehow mention it on the page? I wouldn't doubt that the levels from Crystal were the same in HG/SS again. Yourlilemogirl 04:54, 23 May 2010 (UTC)
:I've added that. I'd be surprised if the whole list isn't actually the same as GSC, but I don't actually know. I just updated the page with Dratini levels as well has magikarp levels. I went fishing then remembered that Old Rods give level 10 pokemon, Good Rods give level 20 pokemon, and Super Rods give level 40 pokemon. After about 3 fishing attempts I figured out that the only time you can't catch a Dratini with a rod is the Old Rod. I've changed the pokemon available table to reflect this.
